Hi Everybody!
How are you doing? I am now going to think of ways to fight severe withdrawal symptoms after King of Drama ended. Any suggestions?

Have a lovely weekend!

I am on a totally different wave with a japanese drama Otomen- very silly, but my sickness-filled brain cant take anything more than lighthearted and goofy. lots of silly parodies. b ut some reall WTF? parts as well, like leaving a character to die and having the text on screen say"age of death:..."( he turned out liveand welllater but at the time itseemed as a total racism against adifferent character) and then some that are scary even if you know it is a parody. gosh, japanese ghosts, they scare the living hell out of me. kind of like the little kid in Chilling Romance.

anyway, it is so weird and goofy I have forgotten everything about the 5most recent dramas I watched. recommended for Total Wipe-Out of The Brain.

Hey, kopytko :) How are you doing? I'm also missing KOD already, so I'm trying ALL sorts of dramas.
I found out that dramas for me now are like clothes for women: there are many, but I still don't know what to watch, haha :)

Still, I will put a big plus to the new ones, "Flower Boy Next Door", in particular. What a nice funny show. I love it already.
I'm currently watching "School 2013", skimming through "Alice in Cheongdam-dong" and this afternoon I've just tried "Hundred Year Inheritance" ( I kind of miss some light melodrama. "light" for me is that I don't take it into heart seriously, let myself giggle through serious scenes and so on.)

The other evening I also remembered some funny "Personal taste" scenes AND ended my marathon over "Shup Up, Flower Boy Band " - well that's what I would suggest as a withdrawal medicine ;) Or, a new virus, as I cannot stop listening to its' OST.
[*secretly looks around to find the one, who suggested it*]
I already have "History of the Salaryman" and "Reply.1997" on my computer, but I feel I'll need some special mood to start these.

In one thread there was a conversation about the reactions of other people to our obsession to k-dramas.
I would like to shortly add, that all I gained from my brother, who decided to try MY k-dramas (since he liked some Japanese ones) was a HUGE amount of teasing. Now when he's at home and I'm using computer, he doesn't miss an opportunity to tease me about "that man-princess". Well, maybe, The Princess' Man wasn't the best decision to suggest to him in the first place... :/ So, recently, I put on his desk Vampire Prosecutor saying that if he cannot understand my love for THIS drama, then he'll never understand my obsession. We'll see how it goes.

What I would like to know is what kind of Japanese drama would suit after "Rich man, poor women"? I kind find any with good romance.

Hi Laurita!
I think Oh Boy! series ended for me with the last episode of Flower Boy Ramyun Shop. It's great that so many viewers have lots of fun with FBND, but I guess it is not what I need. Rewatching History of the Salaryman might be a way though :)

I think Pricess' Man is not a best choice for a first drama because many pepole (me included) don't enjoy sageuks. You need some knowledge on culture and traditional customs to follow the story and understand characters' actions. I think some modern drama could be a better bait. HotS for example or Vampy if your brother likes more intense shows (again too much violence for my delicate eyes ;p).

I saw 100 Years Inheritance and was put off by the first ep (what an Evil-Mother-in-Law - a true moster) but I hope it will turn better in the next weeks.

I didn't finish the first ep of Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, it just.. well, I just didn't like it then (that "perfect smile"...), but "Flower Boy Band" somehow got through.

As for Pricess’ Man, I was mesmerized by it at that time,so maybe it was a withdrawal symptom. I really don't know what could be suitable for my b. since he watches various stuff (from anime till Dexter), though he liked Hana Yori Dango and Liar Game ( oh, I loved it too). I just need something to justify my drama watching hours...

100 Years Inheritance for me now is something like another k-drama "Don't Hesitate" that I watched because of the hilarious viki comments. I watch this one also because of such ridiculous and unbelievable details as that Evil Mother :) I doubt it will become anything better (after all, it's melo), but still.

My brother#4 loved City Hunter. Brother#2's girlfriend borrows my kdrama dvds so he watches with her and he also liked CH, surprisingly he was into TPM's plot, cried tears for Pal-gang in Stars Falling From the Sky, laughed a lot at You're Beautiful & Dalja's Spring, and enjoyed the music and bromance of Shut Up Flower Boy Band.

0

Hey, i was never a big fan of sageuks either(the proper sageuks now I mean.) I didn't understand what they were saying sometimes despite knowing Korean myself. It's true there are some traditions and customs that may aid or enhance the viewing experience, but if you they are just that I think. You kinda accept the little things they do, as what really matters is the plot. The story itself, what it's trying to tell you.
That's what I realised after watching my first sageuk since Hur Joon, and of my own accord!
I watched the first two episodes of Queen Insoo, which aired on JTBC, and I was really surprised at how as much as it IS a sageuk, it doesnt feel slow or boring! I know, amazing.
In fact, although there are romancey and lighthearted moments, I actually anticipated the more serious and political moments. ANd this is coming from someone who really could not stand political dramas or moments in dramas.
the start of the drama is just setting up of the current situation and the charactes in relation to each other, the general politics and although it's a little hard to wrap your head around the different charcters, once you get the jist of it, it's a good watch.
I'll definitely be watching this to see how the story unfolds.
Definitely recommend. Dont be daunted by the world or number of characters, once you just get an understanding, watching it IS fun and enticing. As weird as that sounds for a sageuk.
It's a little long, 60 episodes, but I think it's a drama that is best watched in small bits, so you absorb the world, the developments etc. So, personally I dont feel it to be a burden to start either :)

@Laurita
FBRS was a highly enjoyable show for me. Athough, Cha Chi Soo (Jung Il Woo) wasn't the best about it. Lots of viewers were delighted to watch this character and found him cute/charming. I found him annoying. But there was also Kang Hyuk aka Pillar aka Sunflower and he was my personal highlight of the show. This character was freedom personified, big guy with big heart and casual attitude towards word around him. I guess he appeared in 2nd episode, but I am not sure. I am sure you're not a superficial person and a hint that he's got some fabulous post-army abs to flaunt will be irrelevant to you ;P

0

@imp
I have tried to approach several sageuks but none was watchable (not to mention ejoyable) so I don't think I will venture Queen Insoo (60 eps!). The other thing is, although it may be stupid of me, the poster seems to scream: b*tchfest galore - do not enter. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems abounding with malicous-aggressive female characters. I don't dare watch it.

0

kopytko,
oh pffff, of course i'm totaly NOT superficial, and abs? -meh, doesn't affect me at all (ghm, wait, you said ... second ep? *immediately goes to dramacrazy*)

-------------------------------------

Ace,
thanks for suggestion, he already knows it (had first 3 or 5 eps, sent already, but added it for the later times to watch only to compare with manga or anime, I don't remember which one it originated from). So, i don't know yet whether he'll like it or not (if yes - I'm so saved then, haha).
I think, I'll keep Shut Up Flower Boy Band as a reserve (what if). Actually, I really wanted to give him Gaksital, but I sooo doubt whether he'll drown for it (I myself at first tried to watch the beginning of 1 ep like 3 times until I understood its awesomeness).

0

@Laurita
He appears in ep3 and what I mentioned earlier is to be seen in ep5.
http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/11/flower-boy-ramyun-shop-episode-5/

0

kopytko,
thanks, I will try to ----NOT--- see it (since I'm no superficial) :) [but if only I will get through that "perfect smile"- I just realized, that it still affects me in not a good way... I usually don't find myself in a position of pointing some (d)effects of appearance, but in this case...] But that other guy that you told me about looks charming though (even without abs-showing), so I'm tempted :)

0

He looks ok (understatement of the day) but the character is really lovable. I think I would think warmly of him even if he were short, bald and slightly overweight :)

0

@kopytko
hm, I havent watched a lot of it yet, but I dont think it will be a *b*tchfest* as you might fear.
Yes, I think it will be a drama that centres around the important women in history, but I dont think it'll become a drama full if evil scheming women.
It will be of women who are strong in their own ways, who will shape history. They are still human though, people. And that I think will ensure a balanced, organic characterization and story development.
I dont fear that it will become so in the least. I actually feared that too, but after having watched only the first two, my concerns were removed as all the characters in some way had depth, male and female. And I love baek sung hyun in this already.
Oh and btw, I feared it would be about power hungry women, but it deffo does not feel like that. :)
I can understand your hesitation, but I'd say give the first ep a try- you might just like it.

0

kopytko -

"I saw 100 Years Inheritance and was put off by the first ep (what an Evil-Mother-in-Law – a true moster)..."

I'm curious, is the evil mother-in-law in 100 Years Inheritance as horrible as Jang Woo-bin's mother in A Thousand Kisses? I didn't actually watch A Thousand Kisses but my own mom did last year and to this day she complains bitterly about that woman's evil ways! (The character, of course, not the actress) While I didn't watch it, I do remember walking by when my mom was watching A Thousand Kisses and catching glimpses of this woman....from what I saw, she was truly awful.

1

@Korfan

Mom in ATK was a nasty character, but what she did was for her child's sake (in the way that seemed right to her, of course) and was pretty much standard - she disagreed, she offered the girlfriend money to disappear, she was rude towards the son's girlfirend. I would say MIL in Inheritance is two or three steps ahead in terms of evilness. She did something that would be considered a crime (and simply unhuman thing) for sake of her children's wealth - as far as I remember Woo Bins mom wasn't that determined LOL and she wasn't so much after money.

0

kopytko –

Thank you for taking the time to write a response. Wow, two or three times more evil! That totally is on another level. I shared your response with my mom. She was like, "WHAT!?"

The previews for 100 Years have just started here, which means it'll probably begin airing in the next 1 to 3 months. Who knows, we may just check it out. Thanks again!

1

If you haven't started School 2013 yet, do it now or else the upcoming dramas will soon be here then you won't have time in your drama watching to fit in this little gem. The first few episodes were kinda okay but then it picked up especially when Nam-soon's former boyfriend bestfriend came to school.

Try also Flower Boy Next Door as something to make you laugh after School 2013. Any tvN drama is good in my opinion.

My bad. Just read your post about FBND below. Heh. Too bad. I find it awesome. It's the first drama in a long while that I watch the episode more than once. In KoD I do watch on repeat Hyun-min's scenes though. So funny. "Like Brad Pitt?" ;)

I think "Like Brad Pitt" should become one of the golden quotations of this year and an insider joke for drama addicts.

I've seen a bit of School 2013 - it is not bad and it's about teachers (:D) but it is not that. I feel no difference whether I watch an episode or read a recap. I am a fan of Kim Woo Bin and the "students" are doing a good job, but the whole thing lacks something. When I've figured out what it is I will call myself Anthony ;)

BTW I find it hilarious that actors playing students could be teachers in RL (in my country KWB would be in his final year of the Uni and have teaching practice at some school)

I decided to deal with my King of Drams withdrawal with more Kim Myung-min! I'm about a third of the way through "Bad Family" (it's older and was a little harder to track down, but found in on dramacrazy.) It's silly and cute, and the chemistry with the leads is great.

I could listen to him read the phone book, and it's surprising (and delightful) to have a kdrama crush who's actually in my age-range!

“Bad Family” is an idea. Thanks! I tried watching "White Towe" but the subs were terrible - a bad translation from Chinese - and I couldn't bear it. The drama itself wasn't that bad I guess.

I'm watching Bad Family too... Even though KMM looks different in there, but oh it's his voice that will remind me of Anthony. Sometimes I'll just watch it with the sound off! Hee!

Maybe it's a good thing that the last few eps of KoD are not as wow as the starting eps, else my withdrawal symptoms could be much worse...

Have a great weekend everybody!

I just checked out dramawiki and found out that Oh Ji Eun (the actress playing Sung Min-ah)'s debut was Bad Family! I'm only at ep2 of Bad Family, so I haven't seen her appearance yet. I think her role would be small... wonder which ep she'd be in. Or if she's in any scene with KMM...

Good Morning My Wondrous Beans!

This week has been warmer in the tundra that New England recently became, so I’m all smiles about that. You know what else I’m all smiles about? Flower Boys! Next Door! I feel like EVERY word in that should have been capitalized, that’s how much I love this new show – and judging by the thunderous approval I see every where I look on the net ( so, umm..here. And Twitter. Which is an extension of here.) you all love it too! Seriously, what’s not to love? Clearly there’s skill in the directing and the acting and it’s interesting to look at – a bit moody at times. All the actors are doing a fine, fine, FINE job, although there’s a couple we really don’t have a bead on yet. But Jin Rak! We will all cry buckets for his broken heart, won’t we? And Yoon Shi Yoon? How is there a man so adorable on this earth? What I like about him is he has that Joo Won thing too, where he has the face of a baby you want to pinch and his aegyo is not vomit-inducing…and then suddenly he turns on the man side of his personality and you’re like ohh, RIGHT. Aww and the little Japanese guy with the huge smile. And Dong Woon – wow, who would have though a hair cut would make him look so much like Siwon? I totally did not pick up on that in Operation Proposal. Ha, and the eyebag editor. And the security guard? And the ahjumma who stands in for all of us with the pretty boys? Yeah…there’s a lot to love here.

I’m current on School and if I don’t get to see pictures of the HeungSoo NamSoon wedding I will cry. No, I know it’s a bromance. Sigh. But I literally SHOUTED IN TRIUMPH in the middle of a cubicle farm when Heung Soo said they were friends. I LUFF THEM. And I’m going to watch Bleak Night to remind myself of how things DIDN’T go with them. Se Chan and In Jae – I don’t know if I want them to have a romance or not. I like how he admires her so much just for her efforts with the kids and without romance cluttering it up…but I wouldn’t mind seeing a little kissy face there either. When I grow up I’m going to marry his voice. Or maybe I’ll marry Anthony’s voice and have an affair with Daniel Choi’s voice. Ooh and TOP’s voice. My marriage isn’t going to last long, is it.

Subs are slow this week for I Miss You but Ep 18 was edge of your seat good. Howwwwwwwww can I hate Harry so much and yet want to give YSH hugs and kisses and feed him? And honestly I still feel bad for Harry but WOW he is rotten. I wonder if he’s going to do something good to redeem a little bit of himself in the next couple episodes (all we have left! Sob!) I love this show. I love this show. I love it. The cat and mouse aspect is the best part of it…but the interaction between Jung Woo and – well, pretty much anybody, but especially Su Yeon lately – Yoochun is doing such a good job. I don’t know if it’s acting skill or the luck of a character who has similarities to himself but he’s just so good in this. I’m really impressed. I’m not a Cassie at all and know next to nothing about TVXQ and barely more than that about JYJ and I don’t listen to their music really. I approach Yoochun as an actor first and only, honestly. And I think at this point I can say if he’s in something, I’m going to watch. Period.

King of Dramas, you pulled your punch at the end. I love you, but you wimped out. You know it and I know it. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Ok, and now I just have to sit and wait for the next episode of Alice. Also this weekend I will catch up on The Great Seer.

And I put a lot of stuff in my japanese queue lately too.

Could I really be the first this morning?

Good morning! Remembered to buzz by here and see who was around today - it's been awhile....
Have been in a dearth of K-Drama lately - only watching KoD (now over) and I Miss You (due to my Yoochun love). I'm enjoying IMY, but just can't connect to it. Ordinarily I'd be sobbing right along with both of them, but there's just something missing here for me. I mean, I practically blacked out from the sobbing for Stairway to Heaven and 1,000 day Promise and the miscarriage scene for Kim Nam Joo in You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly - but IMY? Nada. It's a sobfest for them (and impressive), just not for me. Oh well, am now watching FBND and it looks like fun.
Anyone here having trouble with the DramaFever site? It's gone from user-friendly to chaotic. It's confusing and all those Watch Now/Watch Later opaque signs obscure the drama advertising. I'm seriously thinking of dropping the site after 4 years, it's that frustrating.
Hope all my fellow DBers are fine! Where's Ricky?!

Cynthia, I understand (or don't understand) completely! I am usually very quick to cry and actually love me a good cry, but while IMY is holding my interest, I have shed almost NO tears the entire time. There is a major disconnect somewhere, and I know we're not the only ones feeling it!

0

Cynthia!!!

Long time no see! I hope you are staying healthy. The temperature and weather changes so much in my area of the world that I keep a rain coat in the car with a zip-in winter lining.

I think FBND is going to be a fun ride , with the cute of FBRS and the heart of SUFBB. And I'm voting Tae Joon as Most Likely To Have A Shower Scene. I'm already feeling the Second Lead Syndrome, probably because I like Jin-rak's slightly scruffy appearance to Enrique's puppyish good looks...

I just recently started using Drama Fever's mobile app (for CDDA), so I've never used the website. I prefer Viki of the two when viewing online.

Have a good Friday!!

0

Hello Cynthia
I don't like the new Dfever eever.

You know something is trouble when they tout how great the changes are.
ONE thing I like is being able to watch some shows in HD.
Everything else is silent bells and silent whistles, as far as I am concerned.

0

Nope I dont really cry for that one either but I enjoy it quite a bit

0

And they're really good criers, too. The eyes fill up, the tears roll down and the nose stays dry ( a BIG plus in my book). I'm enjoying watching it for the pretty and the kissing but the story is leaving me uninvested and a bit confused. What's with the macrame tubing/baby thing from the crazy mother? And why does our limping pretty boy hate her? And what's with the key necklace? I must be missing these points due to not concentrating in the episodes? IDK - help me out, here....

0

the tubing thing is just s-thing that she does and serves to show who has been with her if they have one - not so sure he hates her but with her crazy he cant have his revenge and then end up with her-she doesnt recognize her own son - so he is bitter and caught up in that

0

Thanks. I jumped the gun with those questions - ep 19 pretty much answered them all and has shown me that I devoted WAY too much imagination to this show.
I thought the key necklace was significant (in a material way) as the entry to a Scrooge McDuck gold bars money vault. Nope. A necklace can just be a necklace.
I also thought that those crazy tubing/baby things was her way of spelling out secret messages to help her escape. Nope. Crazy macrame tubing can be just that.
As far as why her 'baby' hated her - that was answered, too.
Can't accuse this drama of leaving sloppy loose ends.
:)

I feel you on the lack of I Miss You tears, now the show is in thriller gear, not tearjerker gear, and it throws me off a little when someone cries, even if YEH is an awesome and very convincing crier.

I adore FBND, can't wait for Monday just so I can have new episodes! (even if it does mean back to work, ugh)

0

Cynthia the jewelry is supposed to be (ha ha) key to the $ stolen in the beginning

0

Yeah, I don't really cry to IMY much -- though I get why they're crying. And I'll feel for them, but... I don't mind though. If I cried every time they cried? No, don't want that. ;) And I'm loving the thriller stuff. (Original Harry is super scary. As is Our Harry. Two scary dudes. Loosing their minds together.)

And oh my gosh I am adoring FBND! Oh, for a time machine for instant gratification!

0

Hi JoAnne! 100% agree with you on FBND. At first I was like, good lord, how can you have Ji Hoon and not have him be the romantic lead X[... but it only took till episode two for Shi Yoon to win me over.I love this little world. :D
It's excieting to watch a drama with this kind of fandom as it's airing. First for me. Also first for me to watch raw.

Hi JoAnne!

I am late as anything to this thread, but I think IMY left its tear-inducing abilities behind at least four episodes ago, now it's more straight-up thriller and I don't feel like crying for the characters anymore once Jung-woo and Su-yeon got past their respective childhood traumas (though every episode up to 11/12 pretty much had me SOBBING at least once). Now, I'm just caught between wanting to throttle Harry and wanting to comfort him and yell at him that he knows better than this, even though I'm not in love with bb Yoo Seung-ho like most of db lol.

And I feel you on liking Yoochun as an actor - I don't follow idol groups so Sungkyunkwan was the first thing I ever saw him in and I didn't like him all that much there, but this is the first role in which I've liked him. Though I will not lie, if they'd continued the story with Yeo Jin-gu and Kim So-hyun, I would have loved it even more than YEH and Yoochun - the kids were incredible and I actually welcome the flashbacks because we get to see them again (even if we all know they're using old footage because they don't have enough time to shoot all-new, ha).

Who else is insta-addicted to Flower Boy Next door? It really helps to soften the blow of the disappointing King of Dramas ending *sigh*. I also ragequit on Alice a few weeks ago for being a scheming schemer who schemes. I might pick it back up after it ends if I like how it goes.

I always watch the KBSW dailies in the morning as I'm tasering myself to prepare for work. I'm enjoying this one a lot more than the past three series (The Women Of Our Home, Just You, Moon and Stars), mostly because Kim Dong Wan is just so utterly charming. It's the usual KBS cast of characters that are helping the show progress better than its predecessors over the past few years. Ratings are decent as well, so somebody must be watching!

But nothing will even come close to my absolute all-time favorite daily "Smile Donghae" for all the obvious reasons. :P

I did catch the episode in KBS World where Wang Ji-hye's character got drunk because the boy who lived with Kim Dongwan agreed to stay in an orphanage for 3 years waiting until his father would be released from prison. Caught my eye because I love Wang Ji-hye and I find Dongwan interesting because for some reason I don't know about Eric picks on him in Shinhwa broadcast.

Being a Shinhwa Changjo from waaaaaay back in the day, Dong-wan's acting has increased in leaps and bounds since I watched him in "Sad Goodbye" (the less said about that show, the better). And Eric's just being a meanie bully guy to Dongwan-ssi -- I assume you guys know it's all fakey for TV, right? ;)

I'm on the fence with Wang Ji-hye's character portrayal. I still cannot forgive her for that AWFUL performance opposite My Precious in BVS. I had to replace a monitor after I threw one too many things at it! She's gonna have to step it up big time to make me change my mind. Hmpf.

But the kids are just amazingly good, especially the girl playing Hui-rae. And Oh Jae Moo is growing up so fast -- I almost didn't recognize him at first!!

Oooh, TWO episodes tonight on KBSW. Need to rush home in time for that!!

Howdy, Beanies! A very Happy Friday to everybody around the world. I hope you had a wonderful week!
Mine was quite ok (considering I’m back at work after two weeks of holidays)

Now, I’m preparing for a party me and some colleagues from work are having. It’s to say a proper thank you and farewell to a lady that left last year (when half of my team was away on business and research trips). I am really looking forward to that!!! Several old colleagues are also coming, some of which I haven’t seen in months.

I’m making two kinds of chocolate mousse right now (black and white Toblerone)
http://www.toblerone.ch/Rezepte/DarkChocolateMousse
http://www.toblerone.ch/Rezepte/WhiteChocolateMousse
and Flammkuchen later
http://www.food.com/recipe/tarte-flamb-e-els-sser-flammkuchen-365298
and a deadly fruit punch. We call it the happy-silly punch. The recipe is a family secret, but it’s got fresh fruit and berries, Passoa (Passion Fruit Liquor), Vodka, and Prosecco.

When I’m not busy with other stuff, I’m watching Cheongdamdong Alice (not sure I like where they are going ... have just seen the preview for episode 11) and Flower Boy Next Door. Haha, that one is unexpectedly funny. Second Lead Syndrome guaranteed!
I plan to watch the Chaser soon (been on my list for so long…) and Conspiracy in the Court.

I'm a bit bummed to lose KOD to watch but surviving with My Love Madame Butterfly, FBND, CA, (and sometimes Rascal Sons).

I also love Madame Butterfly and I really like the heroine Nam Na Bi. I love the fact she is spunky and self aware. I laughed at the scene where she was saying she is aware she is a bad actress but that doesn't she isn't working had to improve. I also loved how she punched the annoying lead actress in that drama in a drama. I love her relationship with her inlaws and I hope she still maintains the bond when she leaves.

I love Park Woo Yong as WooJae as his character is making me all melty inside. I loved jos lines in ep 16 I think where he said she can go to sleep in the other room, he will keep guard outside and she shouldn't worry as he knows martial arts. Can I have a WooJae for me? And I like how he still isn't giving up winning her whole heart.

Roy is such a scumbug! The second female lead is so annoying but I love the OTP and the in laws.

I also liked how NNB gave up acting and started doing something else.

When I first started watching MLMB I had doubts about whether the actress playing Nam Na Bi was any good but I don't see her as an actress anymore just as the cool NNB. Love how she's so dedicated to her husband.

Woo Jae is a good guy but I think he should have let NNB see 'Roy' for who he is rather than drag it out.

Hi All!

Hope everyone's year is off to a good start!

I've dropped CDDA and School and TGS so I only have FBND on my plate plus ILICDD & RunningMan. Hopefully some new crack comes out soon ^.^

As for RL, I've been trying to find an internship for the summer and the process has been almost all stress and pressure. Part of that is my fault because I've been forcing myself to look for one in China which means I'm learning just how woefully insufficient are my Chinese skills TT.TT But I shall persevere like the dreaded 2nd female lead who doesn't understand the meaning of no.

Also, there's this guy who's a classmate. My nickname for him is Mr. Piggyback (let's just say 3 shots were involved on his end and I happened to be standing right by). I'm going up against him in a negotiations exercise. I don't know how I'm going to get through this without 1. giggling 2. being embarrassed 3. not bursting out into laughter.

I'm off to do prep work for the negotiation ^.^

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

If you are previously a virgin and have sex with the male lead once -- just once -- you will get pregnant. Not that I get excited or happy when I see it, but it cracks me up. I'm actively trying with my husband at the moment and nothing yet. So probability states... You need sex more than once (not always, of course) to get pregnant. In Kdrama world, the probability of pregnancy is 110 percent.

It isn't actually a trope but what I love in dramas most are quirky-confident characters. Like Anthony in KoD, In Tak of Can Love Become Money or Kim Do Jin in AGD. They are fun to watch. I also like when in course of the drama they face hardships or other problems and they accomodate to the situation yet they stick to their idiosyncrasies :)

I decided to say only nice things about dramas this week. (No, I won't talk about the last episode of KOD. All I have to say can be resumed with a picture): http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/mystisith/KOD-wrap-up/rms-titanic-Itwillbefun.jpg
Life goes on and my new addiction is Flower Boy Next Door. It feels so good to have a show which gives you exactly what you want.
I still love CAlice and don't really get people who don't understand the why behind the behavior of the girl. What bugs me is her passiveness: You decided to go Dark Side, now do something about it! I bet the writer is scared of making her too aggressive and unlikable. Meh. Go big or go home!
I feel empty now than CWGM? has ended. None of the upcoming K shows grabbed my attention to be honest.
I'm still waiting for Pricele$s to be subbed and I'm waiting for the new winter J doramas to start.
PS: I'm at lesson #7 in Korean and I'm progressing by leaps and bounds. Super happy and impressed with myself.

Hi all:

Loving Flower Boy Next Door and all that playing around with what exactly is the nature of communication. I have no doubt that although Watanabe's Korean skills are not the best, that he will woo Ajumma next door with cooking, the ultimate love communication. Love Enrique. Really, what's not to love? And looooooooove Dok-mi and the way-tired totally-emotional editor of the webtoons. Would be good if she and Jin-Rok fell in love. Will see.

Am watching a lot of Japanese dramas with female (both good and evil) protags now. Waiting for the subs to come out for crime and punishment and some others.

Loving School and Alice in Cheondam-dong. Will attempt to see Bleak Night.

Happy weekend, all.

I'm just loving the way the screenwriters are using all these foils to examine communication. Kinda the way the writers of Faith used all these different examples of loyalty and faith and bound love.

I figure food is the universal language of love. If someone gives us food, we know they love us. So Watanabe and Ajumma will have a perfect food courtship probably.

I like the idea of the artists and how they communicate and the editors who are translators of how the artists and writers communicate. Plus the fact that doctoring is also an art...the art of medicine. Then there is Enrique with his preternatural ability to communicate on a heart level but who might seem weird to the world because he doesn't play the communication game he's supposed to. Am just really loving this. Especially that really we don't know what flower boy the title refers to cause all these cause are so majorly hot and are all next door neighbors.

Really loving the Rear Window vibe as well. The way we know our neighbors and spy on them and they become part of our lives yet we don't quite verbally speak to them every day.

Waiting around for Court Lady: Nine is gonna be tricky but for the time being School, Alice, and Flower Boy next door is perfect for me.

Still getting over my grief at Ooku ending but so far these are good.

Saki -- Another great (although slow-moving) story about an inscrutable murderous woman. I feel so sorry for Hayato, because the camera keeps panning to her block of kitchen knives and although I haven't seen the prequel it's pretty clear this woman is totally dangerous to men.

Piece -- I keep wishing the two main protags will just fall in love already. Eng subs are slowly dribbling in.

Monsters -- I'm watching it cause i like Yamapi and the how-did-they-do-it of the mysteries are pretty good, although one pretty much knows who the villains are in each episode. Wish it were directed better though.

Priceless -- Am not sure if this is finished yet. Doesn't seem to be but who knows? I am kinda hoping the brothers will bond and love each other etc.

Crime and Punishment Tsume no batsu -- an updated version of the Russian classic with really cute murderous hikkikomori student. I was kinda hoping he wouldn't go ahead and murder but now...well, it's done. Saw the first two episodes and have been waiting for the rest. I'm still hoping he gets away with everything. But haven't seen it uploaded so am wondering if dramacrazy dropped the links...legal issue or whatever.

Itsuka Hi No Ataru Basho De -- Hoping there's hope for these women but from what i've seen in j-dramas...it's a hard road back for ex-cons.

Osozkai no Himawari -- Not liking the main female lead and am wishing the screenwriters hadn't made the nurse character so..."not the one for our main male protag." I wish they wouldn't telegraph so early who they want the hero to hook up with. Always bothers me when they do it to such a weird extent. Some confusion in love stories --about who is meant to hook up-- is often good for the soul

Not quite sure if i can commit to the new Switch Girl 2. I liked the other version but will see. I only saw the first sub of this one so far.

Haven't seen this but am waiting for subs for Shotenin Michiru no Mi no ue Hanashi. Seems to be a story about a woman who wins a lottery and then betrayal comes out of the woodworks.

That's about it.

I've been meaning to finish Ooku forever. I loved all the eps I've seen till now but it somehow got lost in the onslought of all the new kdramas.

All these sound very interesting; I've thought about checking out Saki, Itsuka Hi no Ataro and Shoten Michiru no Mino myself.

The synopses on dramacrazy for Koukou Nyuushi, Yae no Sakura and Ghost Mama Sousasen sounds very intriguing too. I'm specially excited about Yae no Sakura. Gives me an Ooku vibe even though the plots seems to have nothing in common.

I'll try those as well. I was wondering about Sakura and Sunao ni Narenakute as well. Thanks.

I marathoned Ooku. I enjoyed it.

I think Priceless ends with ep 9, which feels rather short (and if it's true, no chance for the brothers making up. They barely got the love line reversed).

You don't like the doctor in Osozaki no Himawari? I actually like her. I guess she could come across as arrogant and a bit rough, but I think she's had to sacrifice a lot to get where she is now. She has got a hard shell, but I think there's a warm heart ticking inside of her (not sure if the writers will really show us that part of her though...). Plus, I like that she and Jotaro are clearly friends (feeling comfy to call each other up to whine about things and ask for love advice etc.). I think that's a good basis for a relationship.

I cannot stand the nurse. Stringing two men along, treating one as less than human and toying with the other while knowing that he's got feelings for her is just unforgivable in my book. I guess there was a hint when Jotaro confessed that she has some sort of past (possibly something traumatic, I wondered if she maybe had her true love in a coma and can't really love anyone because of that) but that still doesn't excuse any of her behaviour.

Required fields are marked *

I guess i think the characterizations are a bit too broad strokes. So too obvious for me. Do you think the nurse is really stringing along former baseball player? I'm thinking she likes him and he's too hung up on what might have been and his lack of success as a baseball player golden boy. I wish the drama wouldn't paint her so cruelly. I was kinda hoping they would show that she has a heart and would do something new about the whole first impression thing. But as always in J-dramas, first impressions are true impressions. I'd like our hero to keep pushing on and for us to see how he changes the nurse's heart and ..maybe we could see that she needs love and healing and maybe they are an OTP. But ain't gonna happen. Not in a j-drama.

0

Alua~

Re the Osozaki no Himawari characters.

Ayaka, shooting down Jotoro after she kissed him too! Poor guy has to be confused.

Mei, The Dr's sister. Where does the hate for her sister come from? I suspect she isn't happy in her marriage and resents her sister's "success" .

Kahori, will she get back with her old flame or try to make a move for Jotoro?

Junichi: Poor guy. It'd be hard to ignore the flirtations of an attractive woman like Mei, but, dude, she's married ! He can't win.

Haruna: Girl, messing with a married man, then he says you're a stalker! Worthless sack of .... !

0

@Carole, I suppose they have a lot of characters and are painting some in too broad strokes.

I do think the nurse is stringing along the other guy, she hasn't really shown any feelings for him at all - she talks to him very cruelly, lives with him in the weirdest way and lying to him when she'd meet Jotaro. In my book she's two-timing, and without even actually caring about either guy.

I don't want Jotaro to get back to her - she's given him some pretty ugly lies, and, to me, is a toxic, cold person that I would not want in my life.

@John - I think Mei doesn't hate her sister per se, but she is just using her as an outlet to direct her anger, frustration (etc.) at, partially because she thinks Kahori has an easy, free life (which is what she wants). I think she needs to admit she isn't happy in her marriage (which I can understand, given how her husband treats her) and either work on the marriage or get divorced. But she should stop using Junichi to make her feel better, and Junichi would be better off avoiding her too. It's just going to cause heartbreak for him (and I don't want him to be someone who someone he has an affair with a married woman).

Haruna: well, she had it coming. Obviously, the professor was a jerk. I don't feel sorry for Haruna at all, only for the professor's wife and kid - who is probably going to believe the guy for now, but for sure he'll cheat again in the future.

Happy Friday everyone!

Suffering from headache here from simultaneously updating my report and watching ep18 of IMY. I think I got it from shifting my eyes between my laptop and my desk PC. Yup, not a good thing to do. Lesson learned - none (still).

Also, where can I find eng subs for Sirius? I have ep1 but can't watch it yet.

I'll be starting on School 2013. Hee! Wish me luck. I still have Reply to 1997 on my weekend marathon list, so... I guess I'm gonna be having a kdrama headache until Monday.

Hmm. I hear my tummy grumbling, so brb after dinner. ;)

LOL! Just how mixed up things are in your mind. It shows. It shows. ^_^

My viewing of American shows is properly spaced right now. I totally rely on matched airing of US shows in a local channel and doesn't put on effort beyond that, so I only get a once-a-week viewing.

I guess what really makes my head ache when "multitasking" is that I have to read subs while I view kdramas. Which makes me want to get back on my hangul studies again. ;)

Happy OT Friday everyone~ Not sure if I have posted here before .__. I just recently started posting instead of lurking xO

Anyway~ I loved this weeks drama episodes~

School 2013 is just being consistently awesome and the bromance is doing everything right for me and more. Gawd, that basketball scene, I just love it when they're both so incredibly /happy/. I also like where they're going with the teachers, with the whole I-tried-but-I-gave-up-but-you-can't-because-you're-the-teacher-I-could-never-be thing.

KoD? Well, I liked it until the ending, and even though I suppose it was wrapped up nicely, all I can say is: that's /it/? I'm a little disappointed. I think I just really dislike thie whole blindness arc because it came so last-minute. It's a damper on the happy ending. Especially since they introduced a magically-possible-cure. But maybe I just can't deal with the idea of being blind very well. Being able to see is pretty much the foundation of everything I like to do, everything I WANT to do. Losing sight seems like the saddest thing in the world. To me, at least. And I just can't believe it happened in like, what, three episodes?

Currently excited for the next episode of CDDA~ I'm loving it, but not unconditionally (like School 2013~). I actually feel annoyed by it every now and then or disappointed, but by the end of each episode I'll still be on edge waiting for the next one. Gawd I want the next episode. So yeah, I love this show. (and Park Shi Hoo)

Right now, I'm planning to watch episode 19 of I Miss You (not completely subbed yet?). At first I wasn't sure if I was going to continue watching this show, but suprisingly it's been getting better and better each episode. (I know! Never thought I'd see that kind of drama. Most dramas start out strong but become meh over time) I'm still not crying very often, though it seems like the show sure wants me to, but I've become quite attached to this show and I'll be so sad to see it end next week. I'm also starting to really appreciate Yoochun in dramas. I think I like him better as an actor as a singer right now*hides* (but no really! I've always loved DBSK~ but the guy is adorable when he's acting!)

And last, but not least, my new love: FBND. The first two episodes were fantastic~ All I have to complain about is that they're too short. I'm loving Dok-mi~ She's such an interesting female lead, unlike the usual quirky-but-loses-quirk-soon kind of female leads. Most of the time, the female leads end up just... being there, but not meaning anything to the story (except as a love interest), but I don't see that being the case here. So I'm excited for the rest of the episodes ~!

And that was it for my (first?) very long OT-Friday post =)
Now it's time to study for my exams again... Can't January be over already?

Welcome Saturtledaisy! It's always nice to get new opinions on here. I wonder how far you are on CDDA. I stopped midway at eps 9 and haven't gone back yet. (Maybe if I was a rabid PSH fan like some of mes amies I would be more inclined!)

Hopefully you enjoy posting here!

I'm watching each episode right after it's uploaded (and usually after they're subbed), so I think I watched until ep 10?
I adore PSH, but that's not the only reason I keep watching, though I can't really explain why I like this show so much, despite its flaws =P

Even my love for PSH couldn't keep me hooked on The Princess' Man. It seems like a great drama, but I got spoilered with the ending while watching it and now I feel reluctant to go back .__. Don't... want to go through that pain.

I believe I made the biggest career mistake of my life, I left my old job which I had for almost 9 years looking for greener pastures. My prospect did not pan out and now I'm stuck in a job that I don't like. I hate going to work every morning I just go because I need the money, I know a lot of people live this way hating their job but needing it. I on the other hand have a pretty good job that I excelled in but let it go because of too much ambition. Not a day goes by that I don't regret my decision, just to make things bearable in the office I sometime sneak a quick read of DB as a perk me up.

oh no ... :-( I am very sorry to hear that...
this is in fact one of my biggest fears. I've also been in the same job/place for years and years and always ask myself whether I should change (since that is what everybody does, right?), or risk that (safe and great) job for a potentially better one (better in terms of career) ... so far, I've been too much of a chicken to take any risk, but I think about it all the time ... but after reading your entry, I'm thinking it may be good to stay after all ...

I've had this struggle before and I think that as long as you love and enjoy what you're doing, then why move.. I would think about making a move if and when I start disliking where I am, be it life or work.

Ariel, sorry to hear that but my opinion is that nothing is irreversible. When it is clear ( ie after much effort to do what is necessary to like where you are and after thoughtful consideration) that a choice made is a mistake, then reevaluate that choice, seek out your options and look for a change again. Perhaps even a change back as joAnne has pointed out.

The worst time is when youre trying to come to a decision about what to do next I think.. Tats the heaviest time. Once a decision is made though, it really feels like a huge weight off your shoulders.

Hope I didn't come across as preachy.. I just relate and wanted to share my own experience

Investigate opportunities to return? I know at the company I work for, which is admittedly large, people leave and return regularly - it's a big industry but not a lot of players company-wise, so people take positions elsewhere and then get recruited back, that kind of thing.

I honestly honestly HONESTLY believe that even mistakes are good in the long run. Where you end up will be good. This is just a bump on the road.

Oh, Ariel, I feel for you! It's tough when you take a lot of time and deliberation and then make the plunge, only to realize later that is didn't pan out as expected. I would say this happens in all circumstances in life (we will be going through a move this summer and I'm still so iffy about it.) And I agree with Mystisith - I try to look at everything in life as a lesson, and believe there is something to be learned from every situation. And remember to look at the positive - you GOT the job, you're probably successful at the job, so this should definitely be a plus for what you decide to do next.

I also thought of JoAnne's idea of returning to your old job. There is really no shame in that at all. Good luck!

I don't think I've seen all her roles but it's nice to see that she has come a long way from small wet-blanket type roles. Glowing she has great moments of great complexity and depth while being funny and typical of it's genre. Like the woman who still wants to marry meets oh my lady. AND THEN with just 2 episodes left have to yell at your screen: drama, do you need medication? I think maybe if it had more time it wouldn't be like that. Anyway I didn't finish it so maybe it finds a way to hypnotize at the end and you agree with it's logic. I just sopped and decided to imagine it doesn't exist.

Hi, everyone.

So glad DramaFever has gotten Flower Boy Next Door up on their site (and the iPad and Roku versions). I feel like things are revving up again after a month or two of KDrama drought.

Thought you guys might be interested in hearing about the Viki Roku channel. It's still in beta mode at this point.

The good:
1) Yes, Queen In Hyun's Man, and Panda and Hedgehog are on it. Two recent shows that previously were only available on Hulu Plus on Roku, now available for free. There may be others in this category, but not sure.
2) With the shows also available on DramaFever and/or Hulu Plus, this channel will give viewers the opportunity to watch them without subscribing to one of those services.
3) There's an option to watch without commercials. Currently, it's a rental payment of 99 cents per episode. I'd prefer a monthly subscription, but at leas they've got the option.

The not-so-good.
1)Seriously, who designed this interface? It's the worst Roku channel interface I've ever seen. The available movies and shows are in categories, but you have to find shows in a long scroll through the episodes of every show included in the category.
2) No search.
3) Limited number of shows - I'd estimate less than 15, but it's hard to give an exact number because of the interface issues I noted in 1).

Greetings DBers on Tundra and preparing choc mousse. Yum.
Loving Flower Boys Next Door in every aspect. I didn't have huge hopes for the female lead but she's just perfect in it. Her whole awkward shuffling skittish demeanor is great here.

King of Dramas was so fab I may watch it again.

I cannot get into the C Alice mainly because I am finding the female lead's expressions uninteresting and so childlike. Did they take the Alice in Wonderland thing too literally? Hope she will expand that character and show more range. PSH is such a hoot, though, that I tune in occasionally just do see him dance through a scene.

Not happy to hear that Strong Heart will be cancelled. I love that show!

I finally finished The Third Ward. Did anyone else watch it? What did you think?

I think it would have been much better as a 12 episode drama. It's not like there wasn't any substance to it because it had good story lines and arcs running through with a excellent amount of detailing. I loved the premise and though the execution could have been better, it was quite polished. However the momentum of the first half definitely lagged in the second and I found that I was forcing myself to tune in whereas before it had been something to look forward to. It kind of fizzled instead of going out with a bang, which is a shame. Still, I don't regret watching and within the genre of medical Kdramas I would recommend this one over others.

Anyway, I just wanted to get some other views. Thank you.

Hehe, sorry!

So what are you going to watch first? And last?

"Even when I’m not studying there is always that nagging voice saying there are still some things I need to revise!" I know, I used to feel guilty for sleeping and eating but at some point your brain just can't take anymore knowledge and you've got to let what you learned digest and sink in.

Yeah, mum tells us that we were really scared and kept wanting to leave at parts but we did watch it all the way through. Apparently it was the same we first saw our little sister. We thought she was a doll then she opened her eyes and yawned and we freaked out and ran out of the room screaming. Hehe.

"...but I don’t have that urge to do that constantly and during conversations with other people. " I agree, even though technology has changed our habits, (you should watch Human Condition) I don't think it necessarily means you have to become rude. It's an excuse because everyone does it. Well except me, I don't own a mobile, never have. The reason is that it would just make my life harder BUT I am used people not looking at me when having conversations and it does feel like they are busy with the phone and I'm butting in AND then I have to remind myself that they are being rude because I started the conversation before the phone intruded.

"‘life’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get’." Yes I saw that movie, but I didn't get the line because the chocolates boxes always come with a list of what's in the box UNTIL someone gave me an expensive box of chocolates that didn't and I realized that I had been too cheap to understand the line. Hehe

"I also noticed since I’m living on my own, I took over a lot of my mother’s cooking mannerisms, which makes sense since I’ve helped her a lot in the kitchen and watch her cook, but I still find it funny when I realise it. " That's really cute. I think I'm more like my dad. I went through a phase where I really noticed the similarities, then tried my hardest to ignore it and now I'm at the laughing stage over it. Oh wow, that's seems so strange to me to have tea and biscuits. Actually my aunt does that too but I find it weird because I need something to eat that doesn't involve looking away from the screen. Maybe it's because I've started watching more things with subtitles but I don't think so. I think it's just me being anal - not wanting to miss a single moment.

I don't actually drink tea of coffee. Back in my student dying years, I drank took a lot of caffeine tablets. I then got so addicted that I had to wean myself off, it took nearly 6 months AND it was really hard but now I just stay away from even having a little, kind of like an ex-addict does. It's funny the other day I visited a friend in hospital, and I have a phobia of hospitals and during the visit I started feeling queasy and nearly fainted (don't ask, it's so strange, I've always had this thing, that I feel more ill when I visit the doctors/hospital) so she gave me her Lucozade. Then I couldn't sleep the whole night and I realized it has caffeine in it. I was on a buzz for nearly 24 hours, because it's been so long. Sometimes the same thing happens if I eat too much chocolate. hehe

I'm definitely going to watch FBND first, then catch up with School, , then the Human Condition and then aaaall those other dramas on my list. Luckily I have three weeks, or else I wouldn't know how to watch it all, hehe. I'll probably watch Nice Guy last and debate whether I'm finishing it or giving it up.

Haha, that's so funny. Getting freaked out by a baby. The stories goes I liked my baby brother the first week and then asked when he was going back where he came from, uuh... But I do like my brother now, haha.

'it does feel like they are busy with the phone and I’m butting in AND then I have to remind myself that they are being rude because I started the conversation before the phone intruded.' So true! I always feel the same way. And doing it because everyone's doing it, is a very stupid excuse. Same with smoking, people are only doing it because the group is doing it. The first inhale apparently doesn't even taste nice, so why do people still go trough with it? Did you ever smoke? (I don't think you sound like a person who does, but you never know, I caught my PE teacher once smoking and I never expected that!)

Yeah, I too like to not look away from the screen to much, that's why if I'm eating and watching I always cut my food into tiny pieces so I can shovel it in my mouth easily, hehe. I really like tea, probably because it reminds me of home and cosiness and I find it very relaxing. Caffeine always makes my feel nauseous, so when I drink coffee I drink de-decaffeinated (I do like the taste though). Do you like any other drinks? Sounds like a bad addiction, luckily you succeeded getting of it. I totally get your phobia of hospitals, I don't like being there either. I have a phobia for elevators, I always take the stairs if possible. I have these fears of a fire breaking out and me stuck in the elevator, or the whole thing falling down. Nothing like that has ever happened, so it's kind of unreasonable, but tell me that when I'm in panic-mode! Did the Lucozade work for you though? (apart from the whole getting hyper part)

Looks like an awesome line-up! There's nothing like a good reward for good work done! Are any films on your list? Well, I'm not really going to push you to finish it because it's not something that I would recommend to people in the first place.

That's really funny. I wonder if it's too late to try it with my mother..."Mum, Harry was fun for the past 30 years but when is he going to go back?" Hehe, might work!

I know it's weird seeing a side of people that shakes the very foundation of your opinion of them. The thing with addictions though is that we all have them. What I mean, is that I see addictions as just an extreme form of habits that are detrimental to your physical and emotional well-being. For instance my friend is addicted to having showers. She says they make her feel good but at three of four a day, I keep telling her that it can't be a good thing. She says what's the harm, but I feel as though at the root cause there is some unresolved issue that needs looking at. I could be wrong. As for smoking, my father put me off that in my childhood, as well as alcohol. Seeing the worst side of those vices was the best deterrent. So do I come across as healthy? Or goody two shoes?

My cousin has a phobia for using elevators too but the thing is because she is disabled we have to use them. However whenever possible, even if it means we go the long way and sometimes really long way around, she won't use them. She says it just makes her feel really vulnerable and fragile. To be honest I drink water most of the time. Everything else just tastes too sweet. Oh, I forgot (I'm definitely getting old) that I do have tea, herbal tea. I think I forgot because I brew the infusions then let them cool and refrigerate them for the week. It doesn't feel like tea more just flavoured water but technically I guess they are tea. Do you follow any good health regimes?

I felt like the biggest drama queen. Here I was visiting a very poorly friend in Hospital and suddenly I get all this attention just because of some weird brain malfunction of being there! She offered and I didn't want to take it but just to get the focus off me and back onto her, I did. I didn't really help but it didn't hurt either. It was a low moment for me, venturing into diva territory.

Have you seen the Kdrama Soulmate from 2006?

0

Yeah, it's now my motivation for getting trough the last days. But I'm a bit mad: I had to write this essay which is due in a few weeks, but now they pushed the deadline forward and now I have to turn it in on Friday! Grr, when I'm finally done tomorrow with my last exam I have to write that stupid thing. And because I was so busy studying I haven't even really started....
Well, I want to watch Wolf Boy, but I don't know if I can find it subbed anywhere. Also The Thieves, cause it was such a big hit, I want to see it for myself. And Bleak Night, cause of that really good review here on Dramabeans. And, the list goes on and on, hehe. Have you seen any good movies lately?

"wonder if it’s too late to try it with my mother…”Mum, Harry was fun for the past 30 years but when is he going to go back?”" Haha, that made me laugh out loud! I can picture the scene already.

Wow I've never heard of anybody who likes to shower so much. I like showering too, but 3 to 4 times is a bit much. I agree with your view that addictions are a extreme form of habits, some maybe more harmful than others. It's interesting, I hadn't looked at it that way.
You seem like a sensible person, so I thought smoking didn't really fitted the way you come across. I never smoked and never will, I think it smells really bad and you look old very quickly and it's so bad for your health. I'm always a bit scared of getting a scary disease so why would I push my luck? As for alcohol, I barely drink it. Being a student (student = beer, seems like the norm these days) that's gotten me quite the comments. But I don't care. I don't even like the taste of beer and I certainly don't want to get drunk and end up vomiting in some dirty toilet or in some back alley. I even don't like the whole partying aspect, never really got that. But it seems like there's this dogma-like idea that students like partying and drinking and if you don't fit in that category you're being labelled as weird. At least it's like that in my country, don't know if it's the same where you live?

Oh, that must be really hard, being disabled and fearing elevators. Luckily they can be avoided a lot of the times.

Never heard about putting tea in your fridge, but thinking about it, it doesn't seem really weird. A bit like iced-tea, but without the icing? Sounds really healthy! I always try to eat not too many snacks and limit eating them in the weekends. It's also cost-reducing, cause I don't have to buy snacks during the week and eat them at home in the weekends. I also try to eat enough fruit, it's weird how easily you forget to do that when you're very busy. Plus I heard Song-Joong Ki answering in an interview the question how he stayed so pretty with that he ate an apple everyday, hehe. I really hate sports (I'm so so clumsy and not coordinated enough to do anything that involves harder things than walking), so I try to take long walks with the dog when I'm home. Also good for my dog, hehe. Do you do any sports?

Aw, sad to hear about your hospital moment. But sometimes you can't help yourself and I can't imagine that you went al diva just to get the attention. I sometimes get very nauseous and then I feel like a drama queen too, when we're visiting a city or something and I start not feeling good and just want to sit down and drink some cool water and everyone else wants to keep going. Not everyone is always very understanding. But it was strong of you that knowing you can't really be in hospitals you went anyway!

No, I haven't seen it, but I read snippets about it on Dramabeans. I heard it was like a sitcom? Did you watch/like it?

0

In the words of Bart Simpson, "That both sucks and blows!" The fact that you refer to it as 'that stupid thing' informs me that you are approaching it with the correct frame of mind. Hehe. Sorry, I shouldn't be laughing. :P

Yeah I wanted to watch Bleak Night too after reading DB's review. You know she never steers me wrong on recommendations. I'm not trying to 'claim' her through affinity or anything but 99% of the time, I like what she likes. That's how come I came to watching Soulmate because she had given it a very good review and rating. I think its unfair to label it a sitcom. I too thought it would be more like INR1 but it ended up being so much more. I ended up marathoning it over several days. The ending killed me but in a good way AND it left me feeling very positive and happy about the whole viewing experience WHICH is how I can tell when I love a drama. Highly recommended AND wonderful soundtrack too. Here's a few that I enjoyed from it.

I tried to watch Thieves but got bored and I don't think I would ever finish it. Let me know about Wolf Boy because I'm on the fence about that one. "Sensible?" Hehe my mum would fall over laughing if she heard that! Me and my brother were discussing my turn of fate recently because I was the 'good one' for so long in my family but over the last several years I find that my brother and sister have taken over and I've become the black sheep, so to speak. I don't mind and I'm glad they get to shine but it happened so slowly, discreetly that it seemingly felt like it was all of a sudden. How would you say your parents see you?

The whole partying student with no time for studies image is prevalent here too. I too never became enchanted by that kind of lifestyle even if just for a year. I remember going out to a club once with my sister and finding the whole thing well, sordid and realized that it wasn't for me. Most people don't understand, as you say, but it's not that we are weird just different.

He really does have beautiful skin. My aunt used to make a facemask out of yogurt and her skin was really clear too. Mine is lucky if it gets washed. hehe. I just can't find the energy to care but the other day I read an interview with Emma Thompson were she was talking about how she never gave any time to clothes, make-up etc and would just dress smart to events but then realized that she maybe only had a few years left to look sexy before she became too old for that AND decided to make the most of her youth and now she's wearing more daring clothes etc and turning heads on the red carpet. I thought, that's so true, I've maybe only got a few years left of my youth and whilst I can I think I would like to be pretty (as pretty as I can be) for those, so I have this whole new beauty regime.

I'm not really the sporty type either. However I have noted that many people who have lived a long age have all stated that they walked a lot in their youth. So I tend to walk a lot. My rule is that if its within three miles of my home, I must walk there rather than taking the bus or car.

That's the thing, everyone was saying, 'oh it's so good of you to come despite your phobia' but really compared to the sick person in bed it wasn't anything at all and yet I was getting all the attention. It just made me feel even more sick. Anyway, as I said, 'a low point for me.' OK, I'm off to watch FBND ep 3. If I have learned anything about you correctly, you are going to love the lead female protagonist. Wishing you much success for tomorrow!

0

Ha, you can laugh, it's actually quite funny. Luckily I'm almost done with the 'stupid thing'. I love that quote, now you make me laugh ; ) Hopefully I can watch FBND today or else sometime tomorrow! What you said about the heroine makes me extra curious! Did you like the new episodes too?
And I just heard I passed two of the three exams already, the third hasn't been graded yet, so I'm really happy right now!

Those songs you shared are so beautiful! Makes me want to watch the drama immediately. And I too find that this site never steers me wrong about dramas, I tend to like/love most dramas Dramabeans likes/loves too. I hadn't really paid attention to the rating and review given to Soulmate on this site, but now it's on my to-watch list too!
Oh and I finally also listened to the other songs you shared some time ago. Rap will never really be my thing, but I have to say I quite enjoyed it. I found Loveholic's song so beautiful! Didn't they also make the soundtrack for SUFBB?
I'm not sure if I'm going to like Wolfboy, but I want to see more of Song Joong Ki and the story itself kinda appeals to me.

It's that bad? Ha, well you come across as sensible at least ; ) My brother is the party-type and he's not really doing a good job with school. I sometimes find it remarkable how relaxed he is about everything (and wish I could be that relaxed instead of always stressing), but sometimes he's a bit to laid-back. So I would say my parents see me as the most sensible and serious, though sometimes overdoing it a bit. Luckily they're also not really the outgoing type, so they really understand that side of me that loves most to be at home instead of going out and stuff. And indeed not weird just different!

So, what does your beauty-regime look like? Face-masks and stuff? I think your walking rule is a very good one!

There is so much snow here now! And so so cold! But I don't really have to go anywhere so now I can enjoy it without it disturbing my travelling with train. It's so weird how just a tiny bit of snow can make the whole traffic chaos. I heard on the news the other day that we had the longest traffic jam ever because of the snow! Is it like that in your country too?

I started Third Ward but dropped it. And actually I'm thinking that the definition of a Kdrama should be "highly addictive series that ropes you in and then fizzles at the end." Seems to be the case lately!

Ha! So true. It's funny because in the past I had difficulty picking up dramas. I would ff to episode 3 or 4, when story would kick in, and then return to earlier episodes once hooked. Being a TvN drama I expected different, and though within its medical genre it was good, as a drama overall not good enough.

I am hoping that FBND will be my cure for the blahs. I need something highly addictive now that CWGM is finished, and since my time is now limited, I must choose wisely!

Oooh, I love the XXXHolic manga (though I stopped part way through and have yet to finish it)! I heard there was going to be a drama for it, but that was a while ago and I didn't have any information about the air date. Is it airing soon?

It starts on February 24. I'm only on Vol 6 out of 19, so still pretty early in the story.

I read it primarily at work, when I'm not working. It helps pass the time.

I do like they art style. It reminds me of Steve Ditko's work on the Dr. Strange comic books from the 60's with all the clouds, fumes, etc.

Ooh, that's exciting! I'll definitely need to add that one to my watch queue before I forget. I left off at volume 16 when I didn't know how much longer it would go on for (also, there was a big gap between the publication of each volume). If there are only three more volumes, I might pick it up again. To me volume 6 was where the narrative started getting more in depth and really quite beautiful. The woodblock print style artwork is gorgeous. I already liked CLAMP's art, but XXXHolic is definitely my favorite stylistically. However, in the later volumes the narrative took a turn that I thought weakened the story overall and I let it fall by the wayside. I think the manga actually would have benefitted had it not been a crossover with Tsubasa Chronicle, with Tsubasa being the lead narrative. XXXHolic already had such a solid, rich story on its own.

Something happened this week. Like the twins, my world is still so small. I watched Ouran HS Host Club (both the anime and the jdrama) because a couple ‘beaners recommended it. First, THANK YOU!! WOW! Just WOW. I capital L – loved “The Twins Fight” (best part - only Haruhi can tell them apart). The identical twinmance is so literal and wickedly forbidden. And the episode where the host boys meet Haruhi’s transvestite father – I laughed so hard I cried so hard I laughed.

With the arrival of 2013, I know I am being sucked even further into the antisocial black hole of k- and jdrama addiction. When a friend came by with hot fudge sundaes last night, I reached a hand through the crack of my door to get it, quickly thanked her, and shut myself back in my room, my eyes never leaving the screen. How will I ever manage time now that I’ve ventured into the world of jdramas too! My plate this week was full with OHSHC x 2, School2013, FBND x3, IMY, KoD, and Cinderella Man (my catch up drama). In my ow little Dok Mi world sans les FBs!

Hi pillowhead, I was hoping we could catch on your inquiry in last week’s OT about What’ s Up? (2011) *SPOILER*

First, I think it’s worth watching episodes 18-20 again if you dozed off, because all the good stuff happens and makes up for slower episodes. The #1 coolest moment - Yang Soo Jung (played by Kim Mi Kyung – aka Lady Choi in Faith) as r&r drummer with her hair down. It’s one of those uniquely written scenes that does kdramas proud (episode 18).
#2 moment - I thought the picture hanging in the front of the church was a giant Korean Jesus, but realized it was Professor Sunwoo Young (episode 20).
I’m not sure about the blackmail issue with Hades (odd looking guy, huh?), but I think he remained true to himself. It was one of those loose ends you mentioned.
The red ghost appeared as the conscience, alter-ego, voice of truth. It was a good way to move things along and create the turning points of self-realization for several people. I also liked how Park tae Yi’s father came to “talk” to her and trusted her to handle things as an “adult.” But I had a hard time seeing her as anything but “National goblin” – from TTBY – (remember the adorable line by Eun-gyul – one of my all-time 2nd lead cutie pie males?)
Oh Doo Ri (played by Im Joo eun) – liked her a lot. The lead guy, Jang Jae Hun (played by Im Ju Hwan) – are they related in real life, I wonder? He’s not really a hottie, but very likeable and I can see how he’d be boyfriend material.
Student musical productions, meh, but the story and especially the acting were really good.
Lee Soo yuk (as Lee Soo Bin), the dark, moody broody musician was also in White Christmas (he saw the little kid in the corner, hallucinations). He must like those edgy, sullen roles and his looks truly fit the part!
Anyhoot, hope you liked it!

Hades, he is odd looking lol, but he's a member of Bigbang so I was interested in his character. Lee Soo yuk does do well in that role. I wonder if he's done anything else. I have to agree, the music was just meh, but the kids were cute enough. :D

Happy Drama Friday Chingus!

Not for the first time I am getting a little worried about my drama addiction. After having the holiday break where I abosolutley gorged myself in drama watching I have been having trouble regulating my schedule. I don't think I went to bed before 2:30am on night this week. Which definitely doesn't help with my productivity at work. I am planning on getting a tshirt that says "I'd rather be watching drama" because it pretty much applies to everything right now. Somehow I am have to figure out a way to lay off the sauce without going cold turkey(shudder at the thought).

Anyway I like everyone was really dissapointed with the lame ending of KOD. Overall I was never in love as much as everyone was with the show because I felt like the writing was really uneven. That became really apparent in the end. I still love Siwon as Hyungmin though!!! His scenes were my favorite.

So I started and have absolutley fallen in love with Smile, You. OMG the cuteness is off the charts. I had put off watching as I don't really watch family dramas with so many episodes but the longer i am a dramafan the more I have been branching out. Watching Lee Minjung in this role makes the nonentity she was in Big even more shocking. She is just so adorable and likable even when she is being bratty. (not to mention beautiful). And Jung Kyung Ho is awesomely adorkable! Why isn't he in more stuff! I feel the need to watch another one of his dramas posthaste. Yes its sometimes a little slow and the storyline with the parents (and his mother) can be annoying but so far the Cute is making up for it.

oh another random discovery I made when stalking youtube for Kim Hyung-jun from SS501 (we all have our biases). I came across the Dayunaji game from the show Xmen!!! Holy Crap it is soo funny. I discovered and promptly fell for Lee Jong Su - he is the best!!! I havent seen any of his dramas yet but his charima is off the charts on that show. Am I alone on this one?

Going to start Flowerboy Next door this weekend since everyone is raving about it (likely tonight but am supposed to be hanging out with friends, lol - i rather be watching dramas).

Happy Drama Watching!

As for Dangyunhaji - it's hilarious. Lee Jong-su... wasn't he called 'eagle eye' or something? Charisma all over the place~

Ha Yes!!! That its! I was way off of the spelling, lol. Yes he is eagle eyes!!! And he does have beautiful eyes.

Its interesting that there is so much flirting in that game when in reality if stars date its a scandal!

*One of my other favorite clips is when oldschool DBSK -Changmin and Jajoong go up against each other. Hilarious!

I think I saw that one ~ With the cola/alcohol story?

One of the things that tends to stick the most though is Yoo Jae Suk's voice. Either when he goes all EAGLE EYEE ... or 'Yaaaaaaahhh' (with that weird gurgling sound Korean men tend to make) whenever Lee Seung Ki starts singing.

Happy friday! There's been so much less drama watching in my life the last three weeks. Like none. :-( Finals month is approaching so I've decided to have one night off for dramas each week. Holding tightly onto Alice, FBND and Level 7 Civil Servant (when it comes) to buoy me through. Oh well, this is what I get for playing and not working all year.

Watched War of the Arrows sometime back with my dad and bro. Moon Chae Won y u so awesome!!!!!111111 And my love for Park Ki Woong increases with each new role. Please, dramagods, please get him a lead role. Please? I'll be a good girl and stop getting innapropriately attracted to evil characters with charming smirks, I promise.

And is FBND awesome or what? So quirky, hilarious, had tears from laughter streaming down my face. Or maybe that's just my sense of humour. Either way can't wait for the next eps!

Alice's last episode had me confused. I thought Seung Jo had been making progress throughout that episode, finally facing his faults, and then at the end BAM! It was like no growth. Zero. Three years and all that reflection and closure and therapy and he's the same man trying to one up his father. No room for understanding or considering his partner's feelings. :-(

I tried making some Korean style ramyun this week with spring onions, celery, mushrooms, beans, garlic and leftover chilli paste. I still don't know how authentic that was but I was quite pleased with the result. :-D

All in all, I'm so looking forward to getting my life back in April. Mass dramathon here I come!

I just wanted to say, I really REALLY wanted to like flowerboys next door, but as much as I love the cast and the quiet moments with dok-mi, I found it difficult to get into. I couldn't really understand the core themes or the bone of the story. It's just gonna be a drama that contains cute people, hijink that are meant to illicit some kind of squeeing.
I dont know guys...it just doesnt draw me in proper.

On another note, I've watched the first and second episode of Queen Insoo, which aired on jtbc, and I was so surprised at how as much as it feels like a sageuk, it wasnt boring or slow!!
Amazing. The first two episodes started the setting up of the world, current situation in terms of royal family dynamics and positions etc.
I love that there aren't any obviously overly evil people.. There are merely ppl, who may have less good intentions.. But they're still humans.
And I think I already love Baek Sung Hyun's character.
I'll definitely be watching to see how the plot unfolds.
Strangely as well, although there are lighthearted and romancey moments in the drama, I actually enjoyed and anticipated the more serious moments!! The lighter moments were still good to watch, but it surprised me that I found myself wanting more of the political and serious stuff.
So anyone who's kind of had a fear of sageuks cos of the language or boring politics or whatever, you might just like to have a watch of this drama.
For sure, I feel it will draw you into its world as it did to me.

Flower Boy Next Door

It's going to be Slice of Life drama, which means small incidents that build up to characters changing rather than large dramatic sweeping events, I think. The main goal of the drama is to get her to stop being a shut in and find love. I would say it's diametrically opposed to a Hong Sisters drama (the funny ones) It'll be slow, deliberate type with things you need to catch and pay attention to in order to get the full strength of the drama. Pace picks up in the middle of the second episode. It's NOT going to be fluffy and fast like the Flower Boy Ramyeon shop.

I agree that Queen Insoo is amazing--I like it better than horse doctor, though I don't know why the male narrator annoys me so much. (the fact the narrator is male)

I get that the point will be to get her out of her apartment and have her interacting, but I don't see how they will do that organically with Enrique being the one to bring her out. (cos you know that Jin rak won't be the one to actually push her to go outside)
but if that IS the case - what are the other people for? why is enrique there? to simply be the one to bring her out of her apartment? what does he gain from doing that? why would a guy like him do that? because he 'gets' her?
I just wish there was some kind of organic feel to this. i can't quite describe what I felt like whilst watching the first two episodes, just that it felt a little.. unrooted.
Once, I can coherently explain what I was feeling like, I'll tell you. :)
or, if it gets better next week.... I'll be reneging on my initial dislike.

Drama turn over happened. I loved King of Dramas. I think for the behind the scenes it is the best of its kind.

I watched Flower Boy Next Door.

SPOILER
.
.
.
.
First episode is weaker than the second episode. The second episode finally hooked me with the silent conversation mode scene. Spoilered it because I didn't want people to know it before they watched it. It's definitely a slice of life drama.

*END SPOILER*

The Japanese drama season also ended.

So I've been watching the Korean Book podcast from the iTunes store to catch up on various types of Korean Literature. Makes me think I should have grown up there. TT http://eng.klti.or.kr/e_main.do is their link.

I've been learning quite a bit, but most of the book endings are depressing. It doesn't seem to embody the idea of Han at all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_%28cultural%29 but more like, the world defeated me, so I am ending it all. *sighs*

Also the number of women listed is kinda low. On the upside... if you ever wanted to find the famous potato story explanation, it is here. If you wanted to find an explanation for the long waiting period endings and middles, it is here. It's really helping me to understand Korean dramas better and is good filler between dramas. It also shows the beginning of Korean dramas as well.

I know there are more female writers than they show though... which irks me, but maybe they'll fix it later.

Saki
Heavy atmospheric, but I couldn't get into it that much. It's more like slice of life heavy psychology, but it's not what I thought it was, which was fast paced thriller.

Akumu-chan
Ended... and pretty much my first assessment is my last assessment. The tone doesn't match the story...

Jeon Woochi and Horse Doctor
Same complaints from last week.

And still working on that script for the amusement of my friends. 16 episodes and imagining Lee Kwang Soo playing the lead. =P It's about two people who have been rejected for love all their life, but then decide to play second leads and break up their love interests through various drama schemes the main female character has seen through her life. Every scheme brings their love interests closer together. Makes fun of K-drama conventions because the female character is doing it on purpose... since she's a tad delusional. Titling it: "Chebal Chaebol" since 3 out of the four are Chebal, but the main mle lead is not... (and the main male lead is a dork.) I was waiting for such a drama, but never happened and I can't pitch it in person. =P Why can't there be more main male leads that are dorks?

I like the reversal idea of the female helping the male out...

I do wish they'd make something like that, but seeing they haven't, ya know...

Daniel Henney plays the love interest in my mind. And the other love interest that gets the girl will be Lee Kwang Soo since he's good with physical gags and is a natural dork. I need him to feel really out of place among the rich elite.

I haven't figured out the female cast yet. Wang Ji Hye can play haughty yet klumsy... but I'm not sure. I need someone like that. The Main female character is delusional. Part of the reason she's been turned down so far is that she thinks real life should be like K-dramas. She's been watching them since she first got rejected in Kindergarten. She even is so desperate for love that she insists on having her own apartment away from her rich hotel-loving daddy, but doesn't know (because she watches too many K-dramas) that there is no way she could afford it on her hotel maid salary. She's also somewhat a klutz... which I've seen Wang Ji Hye do cutely. I can get more meta if it's an actress who habitually plays second leads.

Female rival (in the relationship with Daniel Henney's character) seems naive, but is actually fairly sharp. Well-connected and works in the upper management of the hotel. She dresses in the stereotypical lead way--which is less make up and less strong colors. When the dork schemes stop trying to break them up, she requests that they restart again so she can get engaged. She eventually becomes good friends with the schemers...

Daniel Henney's character is there to smile and make you go of course. He rejects the female lead in the beginning. He made a childhood promise to marry her, which of course doesn't pan out because it is real life. He's spent time in America (He's half American) and has come back to Korea as the general manager of the hotel, working for the main female character's overprotective father. I need someone who will play off of that well.

Ideas for either of the female leads?

Hmmm, Though Daniel Henney is hot I find him so wooden when he acts (except for in MNIKSS).

I think Wang Ji Hye would be awesome as the main girl schemer. Or Lee Min Jung since she can make stronger harder characters likable.

Overall I am sold for this drama. All you need to do know is fine a Yakuza Japanese investor whose dying wish is to produce a Korean drama about Chaebols and we can make this thing happen!

He was decent in My Father. Any other good eye candy who can speak decent English that appears to be half? I need to have it believable that the person left for America when they were about 8 or 9... with an English-speaking parent. I need the person to be eye candy 'cause you will want that initial reaction of of course she's going to go after him. I'm giving mostly a minor role to this lead.

I figured out who I want to be the father figure... Probably the father from Goong--affable and warm. Kang Nam Gil or Sung Dong Il (Answer Me 1997). Overprotective, warm, and the kind of person you can't really believe is a Chaebol. His wife does most of the overseas management and development which means she's often away from home. (She's absent for most of the script.) Heart is in the right place when it comes to his daughter, but at the same time does too much for her. He'll be her secret knight. He'll have to have a fight scene with her and still come off as lovable which is why I would want one of the warmer dads in K-dramas.

Kwang Soo's character is a nurse, since he can't become a doctor. (Doesn't want to pass his boards and too weak-hearted to deal with the pressure. Also makes fun of the second lead as a doctor motif.) Poor and sends most of his earnings to his family type. He lives on a rooftop apartment. =P the set is cheap to rent. Dork. And lacks the ability to fight for anyone he likes, which is why he's constantly single--in another words, too nice. Female lead teaches him to fight for his love instead of being wishy-washy about it. He in turn shows her that real poverty isn't like how it is in the dramas, showing her what reality is. He ends up starting to like the other female lead and switches to the scheming female lead later on finally deciding to fight for his love which is a reversal of Kwang Soo's character on Running Man, but I think he could pull it off. Wang Ji Hye and Lee Kwang Soo have worked together before (Same age, she's slightly younger.). So I think they could pull off a dorky OTP believably.

His mom I'm on the fence about who to cast. His mother is fiercely loving--he has a really good family. She's poor, works really hard, but the family overall can't seem to get ahead, so is really sorry towards her son for making him work that hard. She needs to feel earthy, grounded and very practical. The type you can believe went through lots of crap and survived it very well.

Haha. Yeah, Yakuza and mess up my mentor's script and I'm on my way. I'm not fluent enough in Korean to sell it to Anthony though.

If it were a real drama, I'd ask the Running Man cast to cameo in minor parts. ^_^ I love meta to pieces.

Very interesting concept. I loved the detailing it would involve, that nod to the norm whilst seeing it through a whole other viewpoint AND of course twist, which is just how it normally ends up - the second leads being paired up - but just we get there in an original way. Also I would love to see more dorky leads too. Excellent, I would wholeheartedly support this!

Happy chilly Friday Dramabeaners!

So I *still* haven't finished watching Gaksital, it's one of those dramas that I'll eventually finish but now I know I will take my time doing that. I love the plot, the period is very interesting and I feel the show does convey a great job in capturing lot of the general sentiments during that time. However, I also realized that I’m not cut out watching heavy, melo dramas and I would have to watch other much more lighter shows in between to bring me back to happy. 7 more episodes to go on this one.

KoD – Still have to watch the last 2 episodes. I have to stay away from the comments and recaps of the ending but from the way episode 16 is, I was wondering why MELO showed up to the party. He showed up a little unannounced I think. May not be a good sign for the ending but with 2 episodes left to watch I am still looking forward to how the show resolves itself. For the most part I LOVE how light hearted the show is and now a fan of Kim Myung mun. Jung Ryeo won, I hated you as Hee Jin but now all is forgiven. You are so freaking adorable. Oh and Siwon - you are freaking perfect as Hyung min. Subtle but you delivered so well.

Answer Me 1997. This one I feel is going to make on my top list of dramas. I had the same emotions that I had when I watched CP and MNIKSS and those are VERY good feelings :) I’m on episode 10 now after marathoning 1-9 over the weekend and I am short of stopping myself from totally losing sleep trying to finish this show, but I caved and tried to watch episode 10 this morning on my way to work on the train. People think I’m so crazy laughing out loud on the dance club scene where the 2 girls were totally fan girling over Joon hee, but I can’t help it! I love Shi won’s love-hate relationship with her dad, and how Yoon Jae is just so heartbroken over Shi-won and hyung (so far). I can’t get over the pacing and the writing of the show, I think they captured the angst so well that everybody can relate to it.

Now let me go back to my cave, it’s freezing outside and that’s perfect drama watching weather! I want to go home now :)

Gaksital is awesome. I marathoned it for two weeks, and watched nothing else. XD Then I couldn't get out of my want of action, so I watched Vampire Prosecutor. Finished that, started Vampire Prosecutor 2, and....

Holy crap.

Those torture scenes. O.O

*hides*

I've been watching rom coms ever since. :P

But really, you should finish it. The ending is the best ending I've ever seen ever. :D

I literally *cringed* the first time I saw the torture scenes. I believe it was Mok Dan at first, then the ringmaster, then Damsari and the pretend wife/rebel woman. Then the one in Shunji's head with him torturing Kang-to. Yikes! I've been dreading the day that this actually will happen to Kang-to and i'm sure it will since I'm on 21 already :/

The show is definitely not afraid to explore the dark side of humanity, and a reminder of the realities of war and conflict. I'll take your word for it, I think show will probably not end well for some but there has to be some sort of redemption for our hero!

Happy Friday, Beanies!

After all those recommendations for jdramas last week, it will probably take me a while to get through all of them (or at least the first episodes of each). However, I am excited to make my way through the list. I started with the first episode of Doctor X, which certainly did seem to be different than some other medical dramas (though I very rarely watch medical dramas to begin with). Daimon Michiko is an interesting character - a bit like House, but also her own person. It looks to be a fairly short drama (eight episodes) so I will probably watch more out of curiousity.

I also started watching Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata because I saw Eikura Nana was in it, and I absolutely love it (I've seen three episodes so far). I really appreciate the strong, nuanced writing of this drama.

Otherwise, I just reached the halfway point in Arang and the Magistrate, though it does feel like the plot has been slowing down. This is one of those instances where I am beginning to wonder if it wouldn't have benefitted with a shorter episode run to cut down on the filler. Meanwhile, I am just breezing through Ojakgyo Brothers at episode 26 without ever feeling like it is a drag. The Angst Express may have arrived at last (and I do think Ja-eun is doing a little over-reacting), but I am along for the ride!

Lastly - and this amuses me to no end - less than a week after my conversation with pogo about Mizushima Hiro's acting hiatus, news comes out that he is making a comeback! It's going to be a film, not a drama (unfortunately), but I will take what I can get!

You should definitely keep on with Arang, if you've been able to tolerate it so far. Episodes 11 and 12 are among my favourite in the entire run, but to each their own (also, delicious OTP-ness is delicious)

re: Ojakkyo Brothers, I just hit a plateau at 40 episodes, it breezed up to that point but I've been stuck with 20 to go for the last two weeks. I got really tired of Soo-young's mother's shenanigans, and despite some awesome Ja-eun/Tae-hee OTP squee, it started feeling like work). Sigh.

(I should try that Eikura Nana drama too, I've adored her in almost everything she's been in so this should be worth a shot)

Hahahahaha! :D Who would have thought it? The timing could not be better.

Arang has earned enough of my loyalty to watch to the end, despite my comments about drag. I just bought the soundtrack, so I have to see it through! I don't think I'll have any problem with Ojakgyo Brothers because my first kdrama was a family drama with almost three times the number of episodes and I enjoyed it all the way through... :P

I'm really enjoying Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata. Eikura Nana doesn't play the lead (Yamapi plays the lead), but she does play one of the main characters. It's a drama about a family who runs a funeral parlor, and has a very heartfelt story.

Well, another long day at work...must be nice to leave at 1230 while I'm stuck there til 230 because NO ONE HELPS.

Anyway.

Watching School 2013 which I STILL LOVE.
Watching Alice, but need to catch up.
Need to start FBND today.

Marcella is having a sleepover and when they are done with their homework, we'll start on TTBY again. They watched 1-3 last time.

I'm addicted to SHINee's new single...can't stop listening to it! You might think it's blasphemous but I traded my Minho photocard for Onew's. I felt kinda guilty....

Has anyone listened to Lee Min-ki's album yet? Still loving it. Infinite H debuted today and Jaejoong's album is ready for pre-order. I'm getting those both FOR SURE.

I'm almost done with the SHINee discography. I have to save some cash for when they have their comeback. I'm sure they will have a super expensive LE and I want it.

I've hada headache for 5 days so sorry if I don't make much sense...I've been shaking all day as well. Annoying.

Oh, and oppa is going to help me with my Korean starting next week or so. Hopefully I can learn fast.

Love you all, I'll be back to read later!

Hi Jeannette! I'm so new to Kpop, so I've only been exposed to mainly what Viki introduces me to. Of coarse my first love is Bigbang (btw, where did you get your decal?). My love for manboy Gdragon is getting out of hand. I switched out my screne save from LMH to GD. *biting top lip* Block B is another Viki intro. and I started listening to SHINee because of your post and I love SHerlock! Have you hear of EXO K? cute, R&B with pretty boys. Gosh, I'm all over the place going on about pretty boys... like a predator. :P

PILLOWHEADDDD! okay. Wait, are you on my FB? I can't remember! LOL Anyway, I'll answer these things! I WILL ANSWER THEM ALL!

My bigbang decal I believe I got off of eBay. You can do a search there and see the vendors (there are several vendors and styles). I had most of my others custom made by DecalOwl on etsy. Every day I see my car and I want to hug it. I love it so much.

GD is...I can't explain it. Wonderful. I like him a lot as well. Currently my wallpaper is Onew (big surprise huh) and I've changed my twitter, tumblr, fb and forum settings all as Onew, haha. *shakes head* It's hard to switch from one idol to the next...but I finally did it. I had Daito Shunsuke as my wallpaper for about five months. Changing him nearly killed me but when I saw SHINee up there.., I was happy.

Block B is AWESOME...shame about what's happening to them. I hope they don't break up and someone picks up the guys.

Sherlock is such a good song! I love the dance version of the MV b/c the choreo is so amazing. SHINee has a comeback next month so after today I am putting all purchases on hold so I can save up for their LE (there will probably be some super expensive LE CD and I NEED IT). If you watch the parody of Sherlock called "Tumblr's Discovered" you will DIE LAUGHING. Hilarious!

I love EXO. I have an EXO decal on my car lol. Right next to BAP lol. I only recently started seriously listening to EXO and I must say...I like EXO-M slightly more than EXO-K. Just something about them...

We can be predators together because it's full blown IN LOVE WITH ONEW time over here. Seriously. It's gotten really bad. Oppa thinks it's hilarious. I tell him it's not. It's no fun being in a one-sided relationship! OMG ONEW AND I HAVE SOME SORT OF RELATIONSHIP!! LOL j/k. And they call it the "Onew Ache." *wah*

I didn't realize there are 2 EXOs. Are they completely different members?

Hilarious about being in a one sided relationship. haha! I'm in a few. LMH, Eric, Sung Joon and GD. Im in a one sided- love Fi-angle. haha

OMG PH WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!!? Block B is suing their company to get out of their contracts! Apparently their manager fooled them and their parents and took off with like 70K or something. They also claim they weren't paid for about a year...check out 24/7 Kpop...those sweet babies. :(

LOL my car...let me find a pic...let me know if you can't see this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v368/Jeannette311/DSCN0745.jpg

EXO is interesting. EXO as a WHOLE is one group. 12 total. Half do the music in Korean (in Korea) and EXO-M does it in Chinese (in China). The concept is flipping GENIUS. They have the same songs and videos and dances...the music is done in two different languages by two different groups of CUTE boys. I especially love that their motto is "We are one." It's awesome. True EXO fans will appreciate both as one and separate but you have these dorks that try to start fanwars over K and M. No sense. They are all super close. Ugh. There's a guy on YouTube that put both videos for History and/or MAMA up on the same screena nd interchanges the languages. It's really cool. EXO is awesome.

And oh god, I just realised that 99% of my FB page is SHINee. I'm surprised no one's killed me yet.

0

oh no, my Block Babies!!! For sure they will stay together, they already went throught so much together. I'll manage them. hmmmm. I won't steal from them but they'll be sueing me for a totally different reason. hehe

Your car.... I want to hug it too.

What a unique concept EXO has. No wonder at the end of the video, there were sooo many guys. I didn't know what to make of it. :D

0

Hey Jeanette, How do I find you on FB? I'm first gonna open a new page. One with just a few friends. My current page has like 500 people that I'm not sure I know. I had a fake page, purely for K-stuff, but I accidently crossed over to my real one and posted, so I deleted it.

0

Pillowhead, click on my name above and you can join my FB group...You'll find me there! I'll also post as myself there so you can friend me and see all my friends react to my kpop love. They get FURIOUS. It's awesome. (you'll be ble to see my cute oppa...shhhh)

0

waaa. Your FB page really is full of SHINee. lol. :D

0

acouple friends liked your page. wow they are so fast. haha. I'll wait to start posting when I make my new profile. :D get ready, I'm going to Gd and SungJoon the shit out of your page. haha

0

HAHA Pillowhead, please fill the page up with as mucha s you want!

Hey pillow - if you're ok with girl bands, I suggest giving 4minute a try - they did the theme for School 2013, if you want a short and drama-connected way to find out what their sound is like.

They do upbeat danceable songs like no other, and the solo songs I've heard from Gayoon (Shameless Lie) and Hyuna (Change, Don't Fall Apart) are pretty awesome too.

Here you go:

Anyone else that watches Immortal Song 2 around here? Wish I can find someone to discuss this show with :)
I came across quite a lot of gems through this show, and I blew away my Korean friend with my knowledge of old songs and singers haha. Love everyone's passion for discovering what they are good at and trying new genres through this show, it never gets boring. So... anyone? *puppy eyes*

Me! I used to watch regularly on KBS World initially because I wanted to see some of the SuJu boys perform on the show. I didn't get to see Ryeowook though due to some work-related reasons I during the 2nd half of 2012 (I didn't even know that Lee Byung-hun got together with Lee Min-jung [why him?why?! why?!] and was surprised at the brief but shocking IU/Eunhyuk scandal. Hehe). I did catch the holiday episodes this year though. I also used to downloaded the songs. Ali's a powerhouse, I loved Ailee perform and hope she comes back, and got to know some of the older idols too.

Hello, Ace :)! Ali and Ailee were indeed made famous by this show, that's no doubt, they are amazing performers, they deserve it! For me the list of singers I discovered and now love is so long, but amazingly, I don't miss anyone more than Hong Kyung Min... just too funny and his musical arrangements were just perfect! My husband needs to have at least half his charisma haha. Other than him, I always like seeing people coming back to the show, but won't stop watching if I don't know the new faces, every episode feels refreshing.
Don't know if you've seen episode 78, but if you haven't I strongly recommend it, it's just PERFECT! Amazing eye candy and songs so catchy and with soul and...just breathtaking. From beginning to the end! And it's got quite the battle of the old idols in it too, but the young ones don't disappointing either. Watch it when you have time!

Random Comment: I was watching different clips from my fav shows last night. Answer me 97, coffee prince, etc. and I was scrolling through my Viki app on my tablet and saw Fashion King. I never watched it. Heard it was bad. But everyone was all WTF!?!??! about the ending. So haha I watched just the last, say twenty minutes of the show. And really... WTF. So messed up. It's funny cause I think people who actually watched the whole show were more confused than I was, who didn't know any of the characters or anything about the story. lol.

*The Great Seer*

The night was cold, the air was hard to breath, and the feeling of unrest was such, that even when the ruling elite was in control, in the hearts of many the seeds of dissent, not only started to grow, but for some the only solution at the risk of death, was not only that of overthrowing the crown, but to do away with the current (Goryeo) Dynasty once and for all.

The Great Seer, is a drama that deals with the coming of age of General Yi Seong-gye, who eventually overthrow King U (Woo), and establish the Joseon Dynasty, and eventually became its first King (King Taejo).

Even when the story line describes, some of the events that transpire during this period, the protagonist are not one but two 'Seers', Dong-Ryoon, and his son Mok Ji-sang who inherits the gift of discerning oracles.

Dong-Ryoon is charge in finding the physical place of the 'Ja Mi Won Guk' (Reception Site Of The Purple Forbidden Enclosure), the Ja Mi Won is the Highest Constellation, out of the three Orient Constellations. That place contains the information, pertaining the future of the monarchy in a stone tablet, that is found on a a place where the stars, and the interpretation of oracles through the Chinese philosophy of feng-shui and geomancy, and last but not least the Chinese Zodiac (Shēngxiào) , can predict the next King that will rule the Korean people of that time.

The timing is not quite right for the information on the tablet to be reveled, bringing about a long waiting, and the battle that ensues from many peoples and factions as they all fight, to find the hidden knowledge, and claim the right to rule the next generation.

The thing that I like the most about this drama is the use of Fate, against the used of free will, or the command from the God's against the commands of mere mortals.

In one hand we have the current Monarchy who is heavily intermarried with Mongol blood, via the conquest of Korea by the invading Yuan Dynasty establish by Kublai Khan in the year 1271, and the desire to be free and not be ruled by another nation, and be willing to take matters in to ones hands, defying, the command from the Gods.
Every ruler at one point or another, has to prove legitimacy of the throne, and the only way to make a valid claim, is by way of ancient establish oracles, whether be shamanic, religious,or philosophical in nature.

The reality is the General General Yi Seong-gye, did eventually commit treason and overthrow the monarchy, and even when he put a couple puppet-kings in place eventually he took to the throne, fearing the he did not had the full right to the Goryeo throne (Wang Family), went ahead and gather all the remaining, survivors and possible heirs to the crown, and exiled them to Ganghwa Island, while sailing by the Yellow Sea the order was given to sink the ship, assuring that no survivors could ever be found to ever claim the throne.

I really like historical movie or dramas that try to stay close to the historical facts, I do not like when Fusion dramas get to fantastical, and even when they are longer than your normal rom/com drama I find them intellectually more engaging, this drama has enough love triangles, birth secrets, bad to the bone villains, good and bad mothers, but over all is quite good, I tried to stay away from posting any spoilers, but I can assure you that 'The Great Seer', is one of the most underrated dramas of this season, and one that I highly recommend!!!!

My favorite character so far? The Great Monk. Ahahaha!

It takes me a few episodes usually to get into a drama, and i start them randomly. Literally the title is all I go by whether to check it out, unless it has actors I like.

hey pillowhead / pillow :). saw your post at 7. so happy you persisted with fbrs. It's not like I'm mad about Jung il woo's looks. but I certainly loved the drama straightaway and loved the range of facial expressions the leads pulled in it. that particular drama I think ( for those who liked it ) got better and better and has one of the best endings.

I really like CWGM and LOVE sung joon in it. he is just so sweet in it. but boy, I really feel as stressed As he does going through the drama.!!

but so happy you're enjoying fbrs :). hooray!!

Have been busy with family this weekend as sis and her family are down from Singapore . I asserted my authority on my poor very good nephews and made them watch SUFBB just now. And I think the younger one likes it. Yayyyy! It was ate and the older one went to sleep. Anyway, younger nephew agreed that sung joon is good in it :).. Not that he would dare say otherwise!!

Hope your weekend is good

Hi everybody! It's my first time participating in one of these.

I have been looking at starting FBND and School 2013. My all time favorite K-Dramas are 'You're Beautiful' and 'City Hunter'. How about all of you?

Hi, Mangoo! Welcome!

I'm starting FBND today (If I can get out of the time suck that is SHINee) and I'm totally up to date with School 2013 and it's AWESOME. I'm a HUGE Kim Woo-bin fan.

Right now my top three K-dramas are:
To the Beautiful You (Choi Minho turned most of us into weak-kneed, drooling, pervy ladies but it was so worth it)

White Christmas (Okay, so Kim Woo-bin is in TTBY and WC, but that's not why I like it hhahaha!)

Shut Up! Flower Boy Band (amazing. Amazing. Yes.)

I loved YaB but never saw City Hunter. I heard it's good though. What else have yo watched?

Hi Jeannette! Thanks!

Ohhh, I was also looking at Shut Up! Flower Boy Band. I'll definitely watch it now. And yesss, I saw To the Beautiful You, and I definitely agree with the weak-kneed and drooly diagnosis.

I have also seen Vampire Prosecutor (gaghghggh oh my god <3), Queen InHyun's Man, Mary Stayed out all night, Love rain, and Cinderella's Sister. I'm relatively new to watching K-dramas, I only started like, last year- so any recommendations you have are welcome!

:) I only started watching dramas in June or July of 2012! So we are new together! :)

Vampire Prosecutor was SO GOOD. I have to finish season 2. The problem is TTBY keeps calling me...and Hello Baby with SHINee...and endless hours of Onew videos...I have a SLIGHT SHINee obsession. I've also seen MSOAN but it annoyed me towards the end. I stopped watching Love Rain after the 1st ep. I couldn't get into it. :(

I've been thinking of writing up or recording some quick 3 minute reviews of dramas I've watched (Dozens Upon Dozens). Sometimes I want a review of a drama but I end up getting spoiled and I hate that. :)

I'm watching Flower Boy Next Door (FBND) right now and I LOVE it. I also agree with the Dream High rec. I really liked it.

You're into J-doramas...have you seen Tumbling? I LOVED it!

Welcome, Mangoo!

You're Beautiful is also one of my favorite kdramas (along with My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, also by the Hong Sisters). I liked City Hunter, but I think my favorite action drama is Runaway: Plan B, despite how ridiculous it is (or perhaps BECAUSE of how ridiculous it is!).

Hi Mangoo!
I'm newish too. I started watching Kdramas about 8 months ago. How long have you been watching?

So far my favorite Kdramas are:
Ques Sera Sera
Arang and the Magistrate
Girlfriend is a Gumiho
Shut Up FlowerBoy Band
King2Hearts
Joseon XFiles (Loved, but I'm cautious to recommend this cause I don't really know what happened, seriously, I'm going to watch it again and hope I can figure it out. :D)

FBND is so cute that it will likely be added. Hope it doesn't dissappoint!

I'm pretty new to kdramas- I've been watching Jdramas since may 2008, but my first kdrama, Cinderella's sister, I only watched about a year ago. Despite me only starting recently, I LOVE it.

I'm writing down the names of kdramas in my notebook and adding them to a 'to watch' list. All of your favorites have been duly noted! :)

Talk to you soon!
