Sohn Tae-young cameos on Yawang, insults Kwon Sang-woo

Ha, this is cute. So Yawang is premiering today, and apparently the show features a special cameo by Sohn Tae-young (I Am Sam), who’s married to the drama’s star Kwon Sang-woo. A lot of drama cameos tend to be more fun for the meta aspect than for actual plot value, but when done right they can be pretty entertaining. Especially, say, when you’re featuring real-life spouses poking fun at each other or otherwise being ridiculous (see: Kim Seung-woo appearing in wifey Kim Nam-joo’s shows and being silly).

Sohn makes a brief appearance in Yawang as a rich client at a host bar where Kwon Sang-woo’s character, Ha Ryu, works. Being a host (or hostess) can be a demeaning (though lucrative) job experience, and in this case Ha Ryu is doing it to pay for his beloved Da-hae’s (Su Ae) school tuition.

Thus Ryu goes out of his way to please his patrons and starts dancing energetically and singing to Sohn Tae-young. In response, Sohn picks up a banana peel and throws it at him, sneering, “Get out. You look like my husband and that pisses me off.” Apparently the scene required Sohn to fling a banana peel at her dear hubby’s face ten times (For realism! For maximum effect! For no ulterior motive whatsoever!). It was reportedly the PD’s idea to ask her to cameo, and hey, there’s also that side benefit where he gets to remind his star who’s boss. Win-win. Well, for him I guess. Maybe not so much for Kwon Sang-woo. Heh.

Yawang is the SBS drama from the Daemul producers telling the story of an ambitious woman determined to become first lady, whose goals lead her to betray her sweetheart, who vows to get revenge. So, a romance then. (I kid, and yet, this is dramaland. It might not be so far-fetched.) The first episode premieres any minute now.

I loved Daemul but thats cuz the story was inspiring. This one feels like Alice in Cheongdamdong which i was very apprehensive about but the cute was just too much to resist! Of cuz there's gonna be no cute in this, just a woman out to achieve success by clinging onto her husband's coat tails...mmmhhh...

What a beautiful lady. I would like to see her in more comedic, Park Ha Sun in High Kick-kind of roles, rather than her usual sleepy, unfortunate but kind girl (or sometimes, sleepy villain) roles.

You nailed it.

I just finished watching Episode 1, and, in terms of the plot, it is one and the same with Nice Guy. Yet, what a difference of night and day! Yawang - I might watch this one for a while. Especially, I won't miss Kweon Sang Woo pulling Magic Mike!

Of course, details matter. So do actors & actresses. I know I am about the only person who is immune to the actor who played Nice Guy (the one who wears glasses in real life but takes them off when on screen), but I will take Kweon Sang Woo anyday, whom I can actually imagine as a full-blooded male, doing things that a normal dude does.

It seems so. The difference is that the guy apparently still loves the girl 'till the end deep in his heart, unlike the tragedy of Kang Maru - Han Jae Hee.

I love it when husband/wife cameos happen.

Thought I'd bust a gut laughing upon seeing Kim Seung-woo appearing in 'You Who rolled In Unexpectedly' and taking on a short, but sweet, antagonistic role against Kim Nam-joo. He appeared in the beginning and then again, at the end of the long drama. It's just so funny watching them play off one another while knowing they're married for reals. Particularly when KSW basically got to call KNJ a bitch - the expression on her face was priceless. It really was hysterical.

Just because they don't write about it still doesn't mean amnesia won't pop up somewhere :)

Didn't Kwon Sang Woo already played this character in Daemul where he was a ex-bar host (gigolo?) turned prosecutor or something?

That's why Javabeans said "Yawang" was from the "Daemul" guys. Please read the article...

I loved Kim Seung Woo's cameo in "Queen of reversal" as well. They are so cute and hilarious together on screen!

The cameo in "Queen of ambition" was very funny as well! I can't stop laughing, and that's after rewinding that scene about 10 times already :)

The two leads are a bit old for playing 20s something. And this is too similar to Nice Guy
