Ok so I was busy commenting in the TWTWB recap and saw the OT pop up, could not resist.

Out of all the dramas currently airing I'm watching TWTWB, The Virus (which I just call in my head the Baïruseu because it cracks me up) and keeping an eye on Incarnation of Money (I have a few episodes to catch up to).

Of all three TWTWB is the only one that makes me rewatch and wait eagerly for the next episode. I'm not emotionnally invested in the characters, except Soo maybe, but I still find the story captivating. And the cinematography too, obviously everyone keeps gushing about it, but it really is beautifully shot and most importantly the live shoot has not altered its quality so far (I was a little worried when they broadcast three episodes instead of two). I don't know if it was the intent of the drama but the fact that it leaves you cold and detached is actually coherent with the winter theme of the drama. Winter theme, and not holidays theme, where I would expect snow and warmth and fuzzies. That's the strange dichotomy for me, despite not connecting with the characters, I still want to know their story and not because of a morbid fascination, like in Nice Guy or I Miss You - I really want Soo and Young to find their happiness.

I was expecting a little more oomph from The Virus, from the apocalyptic stills that were released. The story reminds me a lot of a manga called Emerging which also depicts the propagation of a mysterious deadly virus. What I miss from the drama is the sense of agoraphobia that would normally come with this kind of story. After watching it I don't feel especially panicky when a stranger coughs in the bus and I don't wash my hands more than usual. But I do like the mystery set up and will see how it unfolds. The characters are a bit one dimensional for now but since it's only the first episode there is plenty of time to develop them. I guess I'm used to watching two episodes back to back.

Since there is so much talk about idols taking important roles in dramas I've been scrutinizing Yu Bin in The Virus, and while the character is whiny so far I think she's doing a reasonnable job. I'm a little more worried about the Suzy/Lee Seungi pairing in Gu Family Book. Eunji was a little typecast for Heesun in TWTWB but so was Kim Bum as loyal sidekick.

That's it for my rant of the week, have a good week end beanies :D

Ditto. I feel the same about TWTWB. The execution, visuals and cinematography was fascinating enough to draw me in week after week but lately I find myself getting detached from the drama itself but I'm not sure why is it so. The only character that I'm rooting for is Soo,since Jo In Sung's portrayal of him just makes me wanna hug and comfort him. (uhm a bit TMI perhaps? ahahah) I think I am having a bit of a drama slump lately cause I haven't been watching other dramas aside from TWTWB since FBND's finished airing. I've tried watching C-dramas,J-dramas and T-dramas but none of them had managed to captivate my interest beyond the first episode. Help, anyone? Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hmm, it can be a little difficult to find recommendations going only on the fact that you like the visuals of TWTWB. So I'll just tell you some of my favorites.

J-Dramas
* Holyland - it has a similar mood to some revenge dramas, but not :P. Personally, I like it better that K-remake.

* Shiawase no Kiiroi Hankachi - might like if you liked Padam Padam. The lead is Hiroshi Abe, who can be very expressive with very few to zero words.

* Death Note 1&2 - these are live action movies of the manga, but a worthy watch

T-Drama (the two that I would recommend have a late 90's early 2000's K-melodrama feel)
*Autumn's Concerto - it does drag at the 2/3 point, but ends solid.

*Real Love Please Press the Bell Twice - has a plot line more suited to a daily soap, but has a lot of heart.

Don't know if these will suit, but maybe one will keep you going.

IKR?! We did a good job of living up to our "Beanut Gallery" moniker this week. It was wonderful to see the outpouring of support and the organic protest that took place. Even though db's DMCA notice was rescinded, let's not forget that there are lots of other recappers, subbers, etc. on DF's hit list, and that the same principles apply. Let's continue to make our voices heard and to show them that when you have messed with the beanies, you have struck a rock!

Hello houstontwin!
DF and co is behind the disappearance of a bunch of K related sites: Some cause they were illegal streaming (MySoju, Kimchidrama) and others who were just inoffensive subbing fan sites! A popular subber, Mister X had his site taken down and his work for Reply 1997 erased, Darksmurf community has received threats too... If you have the patience, it's better explained in the comments left at DF:

Good Morning My Wondrous Beans!

Well THIS was an exciting week, wasn't it?

I'm sick so I'm going to keep it short.

Loving Ad Genius Lee Tae Baek so very very much. I will explain more why next week probably.

That Winter the Wind Blows...at this point, I just want them to be together forever as brother and sister. I know it won't happen, but he loves her and he's scared. I think he would try. And just so you know, this is the only drama where stick figures are NOT acceptable screen caps, K?

Queen of Ambition. SO AWESOME. HaRyu is an EPIC master at F'ing with Da Hae at this point, and I love it to an unhealthy degree.

K. Chat amongst yourselves :) I need a nap.

Is there anyone TOP-like in it? Cos he was freakin' scary hot in the first one.

0

There is no shortage of eye candy at all, but no Vic character...unless you want to count...but no, I can't do that, it's a major spoiler.

You should just watch.

0

Okay, good to know. ;-)

Now, must tear myself away. Will try mobile posting while waiting to be sworn in, hee.

0

Whaaa...? TOP was in the first IRIS? I'll need to watch it now. :D Yeah, I was into TWTWB right up to this last episode.

0

and then lost interest.

0

He's not in it very much, and his acting is absolutely atrocious. But yeah, it's TOP, so none of that actually matters.

This time around, in Season 2, they have two idols, Doo Joon from Beast, with a major role - and he's kicking ass in it, I must say; and Lee Joon, from MBlaq. Not doing quite as well, a bit of overacting going on, you can see he's nervous and trying hard. He's made no secret of the fact that he wanted to be an actor, and only became a singer as a way to get in, so I can understand why he is feeling that way. Anyway, he plays a complete ass, and it's quite funny.

0

Sad for TOP. Idk if I can watch him be bad at something. I'll stress out and get very defensive. lol Had to google Doo Joon. He has peircing eyes.

0

Congratulations TS :D what r u getting sworn in to?

0

He does, indeed. And I like his voice. Not gonna lie, kinda crushing on him a little bit right now. Unfortunately, he is a LOT younger than he looks or sounds.

0

Pillowhead, why the lost interest with TWTWB? I haven't had time to watch epi 8 and 9 yet :(. Am in Hong Kong for a weekend break with my cousin.

Also, to your question of what happened, read this

http://www.dramabeans.com/2013/03/announcement-level-7-civil-servant-recaps-now-with-less-joo-won/

0

Hi Enz, Idk, i dodded off and lost track and couldn't get back into it. I think it was just the moment. I'll keep watching.. for bummy's sake. :P

Oh..so that's what happened. Thanks for the link.

0

nodded off

0

JoAnne, if you're still reading this, I just checked out the overwhelming amount of characters in IRISII. Is there some way to focus it down? With IRIS, I just focused on TOP.

0

Yay! Someone else watching IRIS! Lee Boem Sooooo! How could you? And the cliche they saddled Jang Hyuk with...grrrr. He is still a hottie, though, even with the hair.

Okay, JoAnne, thanks! IT sounds good. I like dramas with imperfect characters. Okay, I'll try it. Gotta fit it in somewhere. Which will probably be easy now that i've given up on a coupla other shows.

0

Hey Pillowhead! I got sworn into the DC bar. I've been admitted in NY for years, but needed a local bar admission. Thank you!

As for TOP's bad acting, in all his work, he just plays these fairly expressionless characters. In BigBang parodies of dramas, he has a lot more expression. So maybe he just needs a good comedy?

Just googled DooJoon. He sounds awesome. Will add IRISII!

Yep, Yi Chan is HOT! And I'm rooting for a happy ending for Go Ahri. We know its coming for the hero and heroine, so I'm not too worried about them.

0

congrats TS! so you are an attorney in DC? that sounds intense. :D
yeah true, TOP is expressionless. When i watch the old mvs, it so weird to see him smiling. i don't like it. i prefer him cool and steely eyed.

0

so yeah... he must be a terrible actor. lol

I'm enjoying Ad Genius, too! It's not super popular, so the subs are slow, but I'm anxious to watch it before they're 100% complete. You can get the gist of the conversations without the subs, as they don't over-complicate things with heavy dialogue.

It's a little gem, easy to watch, with "real" conflicts.

Carole, what I really, really like is that there are really no ENTIRELY good or bad characters. Our hero has talent and pluck, but he also has a quick temper and completely overinflated sense of his 'worth' to a company. His 'nemesis' is going through an Alice in Cheongdamdong-like scenario where he actually likes the girl he's trying to social-climb marry. Our hero's ex has done some really cold things - but when you see what she's up against, it's hard to blame her. Our hero's mentor is a good guy, but he's also a recovering alcoholic who went downhill so badly his wife actually left him.

The secondary characters are charming and funny, almost without exception. The workplace scenarios are as crazy as you'd expect from a KDrama, but they don't really ever end up exactly as you'd expect, either.

And I could stare at Jin Goo pretty much non-stop for the next 24 hours if he'd let me. He's got a Ji Sung/Rain face structure, and that always gets me. He's new to me with this drama, so I'm liking the discovery!

I can't actually talk at this point, so I begged off any telecons scheduled, but otherwise, I'm available to my projects. It's kind of always that way with us, sadly! Probably true for a lot of others, and I have the advantage of being able to do it from home when I'm sick, or the weather is bad (it's snowing again here) - so I really don't mind!

Before I get to drama watching can I just say I made my first bibimbap in my very own dolsot (my new kitchen toy)!!! The rice isn't quite as crispy as I wanted it, because I was a little paranoid about burning it. Yum yum otherwise.

Draaaamaaaas.

Nothing Korean at the moment. Waiting! Nine hopefully will pull me back in.

Japanese:
Tonbi I love this one. It's so simple, but it's just the loveliest story about family love. I don't get why no ones watching it (well, that's the impression I have anyway).

xxxHOLIC 30 minutes a week is NOT ENOUGH. Also spent about 10 minutes trying to remember where I recognised the teacher from and then it dawned on me that his face was familiar from Hana Kimi

Sharehouse no Koibito I'm a bit behind, mostly because I'm starting to lose interest. I'm just not sure what to make of this show or what it is trying to do. I can't quite relate to the characters... I don't know. The only thing I love about it is the opening song (sound and visuals).

Saikou no Rikon Haven't had time to watch it again, quite a bit behind.

Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi I still haven't started, but maybe I'll just wait till it finishes and then marathon it.

Films.....

watched the Taiwanese GF*Bf* at the opening night of the Pan Asia Film festival and enjoyed it plenty, if anyone is interested in a review, somehow I already managed to write one (ignoring all the other half-written reviews I have in the works).

Lots of films coming up over the next two weeks and I'm also debating whether to attend a screen talk with Moon So-ri in April OR attend the 009 RE: Cyborg Preview. I might able sort of able to do both, because the screen talk begins earlier, so I might be able to sit in for half an hour and then go to the anime screening... Don't know. Have to decide.

Happy Friday everyone... and Long Live Dramabeans! :-)

Oh, I forgot - also watched an oldie - Nagareboshi. Had to marathon it. Watched it originally for Matsuda, who is in a secondary role. But Yutaka Takenouchi (who I had not previously seen in anything) sure was good - he'd say nothing and say so much! Liked Ueto Aya's character as well - not an easy one, but I think her background story explained her well. Her brother meanwhile... I don't know how many times I wanted strangle him!

Again, what I liked most about the drama was the focus on family love (the brother-sister parallel was fabulous, particularly because the show made clear that family isn't blood bonds, but what you make family). Also liked that they raised ethical issues - they didn't fully explore them, especially the legal side, but it did throw some important questions into the forefront.

dickweed [dik . weed]; noun; American slang.

Definition sua generis from cult television show Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (circa 1989-1999). Used generally to describe someone stupid, pathetic and ineffective, to-wit:

1. He's nothing but a pathetic dickweed. (see: Me, every day I have to deal with a certain person at my office)
2. On your left, DICKWEED!!! (see: MST3K Episode 416, “Fire Maidens of Outer Space”)
3. What a bunch of dickweeds! (see: aptly summarizing the Great Dramafever/Dramabeans Debacle of 2013)

Happy Friday OT, Fellow Beanies! It is Friday, ne? Given the events of this past week, it’s been one helluva emotional roller-coaster. (Or should that be TROLLER COASTER instead?) I’m glad all worked out with the DF Onslaught against our DB Fearless Leaders, the apology was made and the DMCA notice rescinded -- it has been rescinded, right? But this still leaves a bad taste in my mouth and does not absolve them for the almost-criminal way DF continues to treat the Little People; i.e., the random subber and/or recapper who God forbid dares to cross their path with better work product than DF will ever put up on their website. Being a DF subscriber from almost Day One, I am thinking long and hard about continuing to associate with a company that ‘shoots first and asks questions later,’ because next time they may be coming after you. Just sayin’.

And my heart is full with the outpouring of support everyone here has sent on behalf of the gals. YOU GUYS ROCK! I personally have been the subject of 3 separate DMCA notices in my online life; since I have the background to fight, I did and had all three eventually dismissed. But since everyone is not as well-versed in how to deal with such dickweedy-ness (and there are so many legal points at issue), give me a day or so to digest all that has happened this week and get a post-mortem blog post up sometime this weekend. (And maybe a hand-drawn picture or two for the L7CS recap. Hee!)

Anyway. No drama-watching on my end to report, since 18-20 hour days don’t cotton too well for any downtime. I have almost caught up on “Cheer Up, Mr. Kim” for benefit of mutual forum spazzers, and still find it charming and delightful. I continue to monitor “The Days” musical press and am checking my calendar (and wallet) for a trip to Seoul in late June to catch one of Ji Chang wook's performances. Other than that, it’s workworkworkworkwork. *sigh*

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go beat into submission the group of dickweeds... erm, lawyers I try to manage into acting like humans. A Herculean task, but someone has to do it -- call the cops if I’m not back in 8 hours! Mata ne!

P.S. US Peeps, remember to set your clocks forward on Sunday 10 March -- you don’t want to miss out on any live streams, right? RIGHT!!!

I caught it late in the game, so I still have fresh fan rage.

=P They killed the backbones of the internet whom they STOLE from? --;; And then go after the site that promoted them. Alright, they need to sit down and take basic lessons on how the internet actually works. (I'd argue Hulu does too, but for far different reasons.)

Catch up. The way to promote your website is to show that you are in league with the community you serve, rather than working against it.

I thought Javabeans said she knew the leader of Dramafever when she was promoting it. Sick.

Anyway, they should know enforcing DCMAs never works. As I said on their site.

Zune? Anyone? What is a Zune?

Do you remember when the government in the US tried to break the Internet even though they don't really use it? They went after Megaupload and then the rage doubled... because it just proved they didn't need the law?

Community is also how Wikipedia beat out and bankrupted Encyclopedia Brittanica.

Open Software exploded and PHP so far is beating out ASP as the go to. (Also advancing much faster)

You have to work *with* the internet rather than against it. DCMAs don't work. It may be counter intuitive, but fostering and working with the community will actually make your site grow. Even if some of it is illegal.

Even Anne McCaffrey at the end of her life reversed what her son was doing in enforcing no fan fiction.

Supporting viki now all the way. I hope they get the shows I've requested to lead.

This whole affair leaves me with a very sour, even bitter aftertaste. Their so-called "apology" smacks of hypocrisy so much, it makes me gag. Because there is a community behind DB that expressed their rage, and it is potentially (or actually) damaging for their business, they're apologizing.

But it is so much worse what they did last year (i.e. to Mr. X and other subbers). Where were we back then? So, while I am proud to be part of this awesome community that stood up for this very site here, I feel ashamed of myself for not being there last year already, when DF first reared its ugly, ugly head.

and yes, we deserve to feel good about what "we", this community, have accomplished - but I do hope that people don't have too short of a memory and forget what happened: and I hope nobody is thinking that this is "over" and that they have learned their lesson. DramaFever (and their "third parties") will continue to push for a KDrama monopoly, probably not only in the US, but also other parts of the world (I have access in Europe now). It is clearly their business strategy and I doubt they're thinking about changing it. It is possible that some of you don't mind about this ... but I do mind. Very much!

Well done, DBers. Truly feeling the oneness with you all. What a professional bunch of lovely peeps. Awesome display of netizens power - kdrama followers at that. Now let it be known that you cross this mighty bunch of Phds, lawyers, med students, artists, IT experts and downright passionate and ethical people at your peril! High five everyone. Ever be alert though for the forces Karachi mention here.

0

Sorry, that should be kakashi. My tablet auto corrects; weird.

0

Actually, I was able to make a comment just now. Maybe, like the rest of the site, the behavior is just wonky. I wish I had a dollar for every time their connection conks out on me.

0

it works again now

0

I also just learned about what they did to *small* subbers and other sites illegal though they may be, but those sites did bring a lot of people be the drama addicts they are now.

However, they may have stopped their actions against DB (by blaming it on a third party, which sounds BS to me) but I read from some comments that they're now trying to take down torrent sites so it might affect some streaming sites that they couldn't take down (because they aren't U.S.-based?) so I might not be able to watch even raw episodes in the future. That makes me so much madder. I've already emailed them at their stupid blog twice, sent them a puublic and private message at FB too.

I hope some of the blogs that have a link to their site remove it for now until DF learns how to be a part of the community. There are a lot of us international fans and if it affects our drama-watching because they're trying to monopolize the market, then I hope the response would be even worse than what they received from Beanies.

Unless it we would watch it on Dramafever but I don't really want to at this point, and I can't since none of their stuff is available to me because of where I live and I don't see that really changing anytime soon.

Happy Friday lovely Beanies!

For once I'm sad it's Friday because that means the end of my week off... and I've got two full-day courses this weekend. Oh joys.

Anyway it's been an exciting few days, hasn't it? It was such a mean and nasty thing they did but look on the bright side - It's made me so proud to be a Beanie and the sense of community definitely feels stronger. And I totally enjoyed the latest L7CS recap - stick figure (+ random old SC) version. It made the show much more entertaining. As much as I love Joo Won, I couldn't get past episode 1.

So on the drama-front, still pretty much obsessed with TWTWB. Even watched episode 8 unsubbed... and surprisingly understood through majority of it. I'm saving the subbed version for this weekend... sth to look forward to in the evening after 10 hours of class.

Before I dash off - wishing all Beanies a very relaxing weekend and GO BEANIES!

Oh. And I have been re-given my job offer! Woot! Just need to decide where to actually work...

Hi everyone!!!
Its a beutiful day here in AZ, its raining! Which I always enjoy since it does not happen often. Glad that things are back to normal here at DB.
I completely enjoy the recap last nigth with it it's random screenshots.
So, since I'm not loving any of the current dramas, I went back to watching some older ones. I started with Shut up flowerboy band, since back in my Kdrama watching infancy I gave up on it. Sooo I'm ready to admit how wrong I was. I'm only 5 episodes in and I'm totally hooked. I really have no clue why I did not like it the first time around. I also wonder if having watched White Christmas, and Can we get married help me change my opinion.
I also started to watch Que sera sera, wow! I only seen about 7 episodes in and if it stays in the same style, it may turn into one if my favorite dramas.
I also gave La vita Bella a try, could not make it pass the first episode. Talk about depressing, no amount of Wookie could make me watch more.
Lastly I stated to watch My girl again, how I love that show.
Soo now I need new (old shows) to watch, I need suggestion please :)

I would suggest The Man from Nowhere! ^_^ I've watched it countless times..
There is also Haunters/Psychic (has Kang Dong Won)... ^_^
Werewolf Boy is a new one, and it is amazing... Made me bawl my eyes out (I'm not usually one to cry during a movie)...

That is all I can think of... ^_^

Stay strong and hang in there~~~

And I was comparing Song Joong-Ki and Woobie My Wuv: SJK is beautiful and cute, sure, but Woobie is exquisite, just exquisite.

I'll probably do multiple postings since I'm getting ready for to be sworn into the DC Bar. (How much of a k-drama addict am I that I'm on this thread right now instead of just eating and leaving?)

Second, lol. I always wonder about the number of people neded in a Kpop boy band. You have your Bigbang that seems to be completely ok with just 5 member, yet I wonder how a performance would suffer if let's say TOP was out sick? Who would do his rap sequences? While in an huge group like Super Junior it's ok to b missing a few members. I think SuJu started with 12 members and its now down to 9. It's actually really funny to watch old performances of SuJu when all the members were there and the stage was too small. Someone always crashes in the back..

13 initial SuJu members. Minus Chinese member Hangeng who sued SM for his unfair contract, Heechul & Leeteuk both now in their mandatory military service, Kibum is concentrating on his acting career (I'm actually not quite sure if he'll ever come back to the group) so we're now down to Siwon, Eunhyuk, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, Donghae, Shindong, Kangin, Yesung, and Sungmin.

I don't mind a huge number of members in a kpop group since they can be divided into subgroups that perform a particular genre and as long as they do quality stuff. Honestly, I've been a lot disappointed with the last 2 albums of SuJu and I found their earlier stuff (especially the dancing) better quality-wise. They really had great choreography back then. How could one choreograph a 13-member boyband and do a great job of it?

G-dragon would do TOP's rap. If both are out sick, they'll have to give up the rap or bring in Psy.

With Block B, I notice in their vids that not all have solos. So perhaps some are really, what's the stage term for back-ups? Oh yes, understudies.

*giggling* at the Boy Band question, because I've heard this mentioned before here and there ..... not so long ago I did hear on some program that most of the time they try to have 7 or some other odd number so as to be able to do the dance formations .... apparently even numbers don't work as well for certain dance formations the choreographers have in mind .... I guess this is why we see the groups with 9 members, 11, etc.

SS501 all went to different agencies, yet they stressed that they haven't disbanded. Basically, they're trying to do the Shinhwa thing, yet it's not really working much right now 'cause one of them started military service last year. The others have all had solo releases in the last 2 years.

Youngsaeng's having a comeback now, and Kim Hyunjoong's releasing a new album by summer. I think.

(...home, sweet home..)

I am watching L7CS.
But currently am not entirely convinced of the kdrama. Somehow I had the feeling, the last episode wanted to show us chic ski and winter clothing (before the sale starts) instead of developing the story.

And so watching TWTWB.
Beautiful people and beautiful pictures. But I'll probably stop. To melo melo and somewhat nerve wracking. If it were a book, I would scroll to the bottom and read the final scenes. I need to practice my patience.

I also watched AdGenius in one pass.
I kind of like the drama already and want to know what happens next. Ok. I know. The good ones will win.
But the characters are a bit exaggerated (for my taste). Here the cheerful, warm-hearted, spontaneous, creative heroes. And their opponents are good-looking but slick, emotionally cold and sharp marketing strategists. ( who are also just puppets of their superiors). ((I mean, those people really exist. They talk sweetly to you and and looking for your weak points at the same time without sweating.))
Anyway, these suffering silent stares of that evil duo annoys me somehow. Too one-dimensional. But potential is there. I hope for an improvement.

And I am watching xxxHolic.
I'm not a fan of the manga or anime. But I like the drawingstyle of the manga. Reminds me of ART DECO pictures of Aubrey Beardsley or Alfons Mucha. How ever.
I think, the manga style is unmistakable. In particular: the arrangement of people in the scenes, the changing focus from the foreground or background, crazy perspective, many close up shots and so on....
xxxHolic is dark, mysterious, crazy jdrama and very stylish in its own way.
The witch is simply magnificent. Even if you do not like the drama, it's worth watching because of the witch and her georgeous (gothic)-outfits.

Have a nice weekend

I think that the manga reads in a fairly predictable way until around volume six, and then afterward the plot becomes much deeper and more profound. The art is simply gorgeous. I love the style CLAMP went with for xxxHolic.

It was always interesting to me that 95% of the characters in that manga were female. I see in the preview for episode two that they will change some of the minor characters to men probably to add balance. I hope that we might get a different resolution to a certain plot point raised in episode one that is clearly different than in the manga (but I dislike how this particular plot point was handled in the manga).

I agree that the drama team is doing a great job with Yuuko's outfits. They were always so beautifully illustrated in the manga. However, I think they cast her too young. I imagined a more mature woman in this role how I read her.

Required fields are marked *

I think it is not easy to produce a series based on a successful manga (or book). Expectations are always high, and different.
I know that manga and the storyline only a little. Therefore, I can watch the drama relatively unbiased. The smoking scenes in Ep2 I do not like. But I generally do not like chain smoking, not even in movies or dramas - but that's personal preference.
Anyway, I like that drama very well. It's special. (if you can say that after 2 episodes)
Yukoo - too young? Maybe. But I like her mysterious charisma. I wonder what will happen when she is upset or angry?? (goosebumps)

Happy OT everyone - after the week DB's had, it couldn't come soon enough! (though I'm LOVING the stick figure art in place of caps, it is awesome on one level and actually makes me go into the L7CS recaps)

My currently airing dramas slate is empty at the mo because I don't really care too much about anything and even TWTWB is something I catch up with when I feel like it/have time instead of waiting breathlessly like I used to do with School and FBND (and Arang and Nice Guy before that).

But on the older dramas side, I decided to give Love and Marriage a try because I like both the actors so much (Kim Ji-hoon and Kim Min-hee!) and even though I like them a lot, the show's not great. But it's ok, and I'm only on episode 2 anyway.

Also, pertinent to the DB community - Yoo Seung-ho sneaked off to military service this week! No farewell, just a fan cafe message and his new buzz cut. I bet two years will fly past...

He's promised his fans another acting project in 2013, so fingers crossed that it happens and that it's good!

Arang aired with some strong competition in the genre stakes (melo >>> fantasy sageuk for a lot of Korea) , but I think 13-14% average ratings were solid, if not spectacular.

Aw, thanks for the good news. :)

Oh but those ratings don't sound awful....the way everyone was talking about it in the recaps, it sounded worse so I thought it must've been really bad. But that's pretty good. I guess it was Nice Guy raking in all the numbers.

Sometimes i wonder why great projects get such terrible ratings. It happens so often.

Yoo Seung-ho will missed. Definitely.

I have to add that I'm watching him now in I Miss You. I remember seeing him here and there for the past couple of years and not really paying attention to him. To me he was always "Baby Minjae" (from his Flames of Ambition days) ..... then he appeared in I Miss You as Harry..... wow! ..... pure awesomeness from Yoo Seung-ho at every turn ..... he's not a baby anymore!

Hi all:

Hope everyone is doing well. Am trapped inside with all this snow. Not really cabin fever but a growing impatience with winter. I couldn't watch a lot of dramas this week because I was also trapped with proofing. Mercifully next week my time will be a bit freer.

I've given up watching Incarnation of Money. Am still vaguely interested in it, which means i'll read the DB recaps but that time jump in which our hero becomes slightly corrupt just totally did not sit well with me. Am also not watching 100 year inheritance. Will just wait until the last episode. The heroine of 100 years just takes the victimized good woman to a whole nother level and her finally coming to life is coming a might too late. I'm thinking the reason I love these two dramas is because of the ballsy older women. Boss/Gentleman of Jjingae and MIL from hell.

Was glad that Nobunaga didn't finish with the last episode. Looks like we have a few more to go. I can still stop time and gaze on Ken's wonderful lips. Am hoping Youko is a sister or something but (weirdly) if she and Ken are an item, I'm shipping the present. I want Ken to return to the present, period. So whatever happens -- if youko has to die or Ken has to leave Natsu-- then let it happen.

Liking Shotenin a lot. Hottie school friend is just soooo wonderful. He just creeps me out and I fear for our heroine being forever linked and beholden to him. And his would-be squeaky perfect girlfriend is kinda weird as well.

Watching Virus, which i really like as well although sometimes it is a might over-the-top. Still, i like all the characters...even if they are a bit cliched. Am really trusting this drama. Liking Hottie typhoid Mary/Mario as well.

Liking Assholic live drama version and waiting for Otome-san. Also waiting for the subs for Monsters and Switch girl. Waiting for a couple of samurai dramas to be subbed, and waiting for new sajeuks to pop up this month. And my time travel addiction.

Trying to catch up on Queen of Ambition, Conspiracy in the Court, Palace. Still haven't watched TWTWB. I really have to be in the mood for a melo, especially one where i feel i already know the ending.

Happy weekend, All.

Hey Carole! I have the same feeling as you re: TWTWB, it needs one to be in the mood for it and I am just.....not. I don't even care about the will-Soo-get-busted thing any more, though that's really just my mood and I'm sure it'll be exciting when I get around to watching it.

Melo requires a willingness to be manipulated into caring and a willingness to be dragged through the ringer for valid reasons....and...well...I like the set up of TWTB. I love brother sister dramas but when one has seen a thing before.... Anyway, I started watching it and didn't make it through the first episode. But so many folks have been liking it.

On the other hand, I kinda liked the first episode of Ad Genius but the set up was just not doing anything for me. So although I liked it..I expected all kinds of silly machinations...notwithstanding how good the first episode was. But who knows?

I'm on the fence with this drama. I do kinda like the lead actor. I think he's good in this role even though SOME people disagree. lol. just kidding Enz. In some scenes he's really handsome but he has really bad posture especially when he wears the chiminey sweeping outfit.
I keep wondering about him being abandoned and if they'll use that to mess with us in some sick fauxcest way. Bummy is way cute in this and his acting is improving. relief.

Oh, wouldn't it be wild if Song Hye-kyo's character was actually really maniplative and lieing about the step mom. That little miss perfect was actually Kra-Kra?

0

I am watching TWTWB but am not one of those loving it so much. Just interested to see where it will go but not really invested in any of the characters. And yes, pillowhead is right, I am not (yet) So impressed with JIS's acting either.

TS - if there's anything that's really holding me to that drama, it's the beta couple - Bummie and Eun-ji are every bit as adorable together as I wanted them to be (and ep. 9 had me in SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!) even though I'm scared her Soo-crush will rear its head again and while I don't mind it wild-carding Soo, I don't want it to hurt Jin-sung,

No, definitely do not want Jin-Sung or any other character played by Bummie to be hurt. Agreed.

0

Carole, I remember how you really liked Incarnation of Money for first 6 episodes even though there were a lot of people (including me) griping about it in ep 5-6.

But I'm on the same page as you too. I'm very disappointed in Cha Don post-second leap. I'm all for antiheroes but they have to have a compelling reason for being one. Here, I couldn't understand why on earth Cha Don was like that when he had always had a sense of righteousness since childhood. Such a personality whiplash didn't sit well with me at all. :(

But yeah....I'm still vaguely interested in the story so I will simply rely on recaps for now and wait until the connection between Cha Don and his mom is made again.

EXACTLY!!! On the one hand there re plotting issues that I will dislike in ANY story. On the other hand, I'm not much of a fair drama-viewer. There are things I will forgive one drama for and totally dislike if another drama does it. For whatever reasons. But what i cannot stand is laziness on the part of wriring, especially when it's about a character simply changing.

If the writers are saying in a tongue-in-cheek way that it was all inevitable for our hero to become corrupt....that evil tends to happen, and good guys will go bad if helped toward evil by money etc, I wouldn't mind. After all, Kang Seok was his dad's son and who knows there might have been some seed of evil and cynicism planted in the kid from back in the day? But good lord! To skip over Cha Don's change and to skip over soooooooooooo many plot points...and to have the folks either not change or to have them change in so many strange ways.... I just lost my ability to cut the show some slack.

I watched the movie version (Love Me Not) and like half the movie was already covered within the first two episodes. Because of that, I think the show might deter from the movie and possibly the Japanese drama (haven't watched that one so I'm not sure). So it's really up to you whether you want to know the ending or not. However, I would say the ending was very vague and put up for interpretation so it also depends on what you thought the ending might have been.

Haven't watched this week's episodes of That Winter yet, and I haven't watched yesterday's Level 7, either. I am super behind on Incarnation of Money, too. So many dramas, so little time!

Happy Friday, everyone! It seems like the week has gone by so slowly...

I'm just about finishing up with Best Love. I am totally in love with this drama! In episode 14, I was just bawling my eyes out half of the time. But then again, I cry easily. But it's so. Good. Definitely a fave.

I'm also trying to decide what to watch next. Queen Inhyun's Man is next up on my list, but I'm kinda in the mood for more of a melo or at least more serious drama; but then again, QIHM isn't a slapstick comedy, either. Indecision strikes again! I could also go back to some of my unfinished dramas, like SUFBB or Who Are You. Or School 2013, I really wanted to watch that...although I'll probably just end up sticking to my list.

I read the recaps for White Christmas the other day and LOVED them. I totally wish I could handle watching it, but I'm one of the biggest scaredy-cats there is so I'm absolutely positive I couldn't do it. The sorrow...and I have always had a thing for Lee Soo-hyuk, so to have him, Sung Joon, AND Kim Woobin in a drama that I can't watch? This is awful, haha.

Enjoy your day!

Hi beanies!
So I started watching Brain this week and I'm currently in ep 19. I see why Shin Ha Kyung got the major acting awards due to his performance as Lee Kang Hoon. With that said, I hated his character from day one and whenever I felt a twinge of sympathy, he did something dickish and I go back to hating him lol. I think I prefer Golden Time instead of Brain as I liked the progression of the characters on the show, how they got better, how they struggled to make a trauma unit when bureaucracy is waiting to rear its ugly head and take back all the advances they have made. I liked how the male/female lead complimented each other and both were competent. It was interesting to watch Lee Sung Min portray 2 surgeons in the 2 shows who were completely different from each other. He was such an angel as Dr.Choi in Golden Time while such a douchebag (Dr. Go Jae Hak) in Brain.

Hi all!
My laptop's crashed recently, and the repair is so expensive I won't be able to watch dramas at home in the nearest future.=( It also means I have to pretty much live in the office, which leads to my question of the week (ahem): what are your favourite workplace dramas (K,J or T)? what do you think of the way work, especially office work, is portrayed in dramas?

I enjoyed Baby Faced Beauty. Does that count?

I remember it was quite low-key but I especially love watching Jan Nara and Daniel Choi together :) Which is why I watched 2013, then it lead me to Kim Woobin...

I've tried several workplace dramas of various countries and none really did it for me except the Indian version of Ugly Betty (and that was before the story derailed terribly) and the Tdrama My Queen. I tried Anego a long while back but quit it for some reason (forgot what it was).

The trouble with workplace dramas is that they have the tendency to go into boring machinations of the workplace that really doesn't interest me. As for portrayal, I think it's decent enough...sometimes there are bloopers/illogical stuff but that's about it.

Hi Oftheshore!
Sorry to hear about your laptop. I can tell you in secret that I bought a little (10'screen) second-hand netbook. It is my portable device and is used to tide me over in cases of emergency (that is when my parents' computer breaks and they use my main laptop). It cost me as much as a bottle of perfumes, so when you have some spare cash, you might consider aquiring one too. One with keyboard is IMO more useful than a tablet.

AS for the workplace dramas, I am not a great fan. Mainly because the protagonist is or wants to be the best professional in the country/world. And that is absurd in my opinion. You need years of practice and hard work and tons of talent to be a true master in any trade, whereas characters in dramas are in their early twenties and kings of their profession. And call me dumb/lazy, but I wouldn't care to compare myself to others. I am all for being good at what you do, but when I see "I will be better than you!!!" I am usually a bit upset. I like developing skills to become better myself, not to feel superior to someone else. Not to mention, that it is seldom assessible who is better. Basing on how many trials? Asking how many experts?

I personally do my best to provide people with possibly good service (be it teaching ot translating) and what matters is whether they are satisfied and whether I, in my own conscience, know that I helped them in best possible way. I know there are people with more experience and skills and I am glad to learn from them or receive constructive criticism, but I know that becoming a master is a lifelong process.

What I like though, is presentig people at work in a realistic but not very serious tone, vide A Gentleman's Dignity. Kim Do Jin and Tae San were shown dealing with different kinds of customers, solving problems; they were passionate, but it was their work - something you need to do in order to live, not the other way round. Actually, I enjoyed YiSoo at her school, too.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. *off to see the series about Anna German in TV*

Okay, here goes....relative newbeanie here. :)

Happy Friday!

I am relatively new to k-everything.....maybe since October-ish? Well, I am hooked, naturally.

First, glad the DF/DB issue is perhaps cleared up? LOVED the drawings and that would be fun to continue. I may even try my really poor hand at it one day...and yes, DB you can own the rights to that with my blessing. Oh yeah, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SITE AND RECAPS GF and DB!!

Second, what is up with My Daughter Seoyoung?? The subbing is unbelievably slow. For a popular show, do they not want us to watch? Have you given up on this or know why this is SO delayed? I'd like to get to the end and move on.

Third, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TWTWB!! Did anyone notice that in episode 8 there were similar songs to I Miss You? I had to convince myself I was not having some strange brain event. Is there a shortage on music from which to choose? (I loved I Miss You, by the way). Seems we are getting more twisty with the layers of who is connected (brother/thug, sister/national known brain specialist...saw that coming, didn't you?) Just watched ep9 so now I have almost a week before the next episodes come out so...

How to fill my time?? So far, this is what I am following and watch the movies the actors I like are in, but I need more suggestions. What do you think I should watch?

1. TWTWB
2. My Daughter Seoyoung (IF they ever get around to subbing the remaining episodes...grrr!)
3. Running Man (Love this!)
4. 2D1N (when I can find it subbed)

Short list, eh? Help a newbeanie out?

Thanks! :)

2. Arang and the Magistrate (you will just fall in love with Lee Jun Ki)

3. Gaksital (you will fall deeply in love with Joo Won :D )

4. Can You Hear My Heart? (I just finished watching it a day ago and even though it's very long [30 episodes = 30 hours], it is worth the time. I found the first 4-5 episodes boring so I literally skipped them over, read their recaps instead, and moved to the adult storyline which was way better)

Hi Sunshower,

I like more than I don't...can I be more vague? I like a balance so if there a a good melo, I like to balance with a good rom-com. The idea is that is is good. For example, I won't watch Level 7 because it sounds too choppy and confusing...love the drawings for it though!

Okay, how about this...(in no order)

Hated...
Oohlala Couple (stopped watching it…)

Just, meh...
Faith (held on for LMH only)
I am Sam
Playful Kiss (cute, but young)
Dream High (cute, but young)

Liked...
City Hunter
Personal Taste
Something Happened in Bali (except the end…really??! Pfft!)
Can We Get Married
Hotelier
Lie to Me
A Gentleman’s Dignity
Boys Over Flowers (between meh and liked)
Full House
The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry
Operation Proposal

Loved...
I Miss you
Padam Padam

If you are seeing a pattern, if I sort of like who was in it, I watched their other work.

Thanks! :)

Hmm ok, let me try! You seem to really like melo which I have a tendency to avoid ha!

My Princess - fluff, really enjoyable and cute - harmless fun really. With eye candy like SSH, why not? Kim Tae Hee was so lovable, I considered forgiving her in IRIS.

Prosecutor Princess - I think the plot is solid, a little melodramatic (trying not to give too much away). I really like Kim So Yeon hence I watched this and I do not regret it at all! Although I can understand if you might be turned off from this due to the recent PSH real life drama. Give this a try!

Arang and the Magistrate - This is the first show I like Lee Jun Ki! (Well the only other one of his I watched was My Girl and his role in that was kind of meh). I think this show was really underrated.

Queen In Hyun's Man - sooo hot!! Highly recommended. Really enjoyed the storytelling.

The King 2 Hearts - but then I like Lee Seung Gi like girlfriday. It was gripping, but the villian was quite insane and a little unbelievable?

These are all quite recent. I am not sure if you are like me but sometimes I cannot watch old stuff because I can't stand the fashion! So I shall not list too dated stuff, because it might not stand up to viewing now.

Only very very good shows can overcome the dated fashion, and withstand the test of time...

Thank you so much!!

I had to laugh at the fashion comment because i am the same way. I felt compelled to watch Winter Sonata and Full House as they were mentioned as being staples. However, there is such a difference in clothing - back then was very loose and baggy and now it is skinny everything, tailored and structured. I tend to like the latter, though I love me a pair of cargo pants and a well-cut suit on a man! Let's leave the excessively tent-y clothing behind. BYJ was practically lost in his Hotelier clothing...LOL

I'm watching (when I have time) 2D1N in a Joo Won fansite, they're a few episodes behind but it's easy to watch it there. I think the newest episode they have is when the Olympic winners were special guests.

I have a confession to make. I haven't finished a drama. Since at least a year ago. I find myself feeling bored near the endow a drama. I feel slightly let down. I mean is ittto o much to ask for another flower boy ramyun shop or city hunter or delightful girl or even (minus the last 5 episodes) Sungkyunkwan?

In other news I am excited about Jang Ok Jung. Super excited.

I have the same problem - not with all the dramas I watch, but with...let's just say, quite a few. I think that my interest wanes as the main conflict gets resolved. Writers tend to run out of ideas by episode 12-14, and it usually shows. :(

Hi, hi! I always look forward to Friday OT with the beaners!

The Virus –I count 3 legit Flower Boys so far ~ Lee Ki-Woo – [Pillar♥, FBRS; Park Min-Woo, also FBRS, and Hyun Woo♥.
Thinking The Virus should be renamed FBBSOE (Flower Boy Blood Shooting Out Eyes). After watching 10 seconds I chucked my tuna fish sammy in the sink. N5R1 bird flu pandemic – fowl play?

IRIS 2 - It finally dawned on me who Jang Hyuk (who I love in IRIS 2 and Midas) reminds me of – Ben Affleck. But, Ben Affleck is not on my hot list. Puzzling.
Rey – evil incarnate. What have you done to Yoo Gun?

L7CS – Saved by the drawings in the recaps (if you haven’t seen them, check it out – perfectly hilarious!) ziggystardust’s final stick figure montage sums up the whole drama. It may be the start of L7CS anime! Keep up the good fight, db team. What a debacle. You are awesome! As for L7CS, it was a pity how most of the actors (male and female) in this kdrama were dumbed down.

TWTWTB – sis/bromance bedroom scenes. AGAIN. That kiss-miss-kiss as he tucked her in bed (I know he knows he’s not her brother, but whoa. Just whoa.) not looking (wince). looking. not looking (wince). looking… and his head conversation about crossing the line…so conflicted~

Survival Audition Kpop Star 2 (eng sub)– marathoned eps 1-8 pulling an all nighter. The talent blows my mind ~ Bang de yen, l’il bro, amazing! Check out this radical audition of Thriller by Raccoon Boys (ignore the bad name, no possible explanation for that). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wstqn7g_w1E Chiller!

Jdrama fun~

Share House – yay! 3 more episodes translated this week. Completely whacky/funny/odd. My dream art studio is the tree house in the sky, so funky~

Saikou no Rikon – Ryo, I gave you the benefit of the doubt. So did Akari. You didn’t deserve it, but you are who you are. Dang, I would have fallen for you too. That’s the problem.

“Wah! you’re so obedient. Maybe our marriage would have worked out if your ribs were broken the whole time.” (ep 5)

Nobunaga no Chef – Ken, I would love you as my BFF. Between Natsu, Youko, and Kaede – I choose dark horse Kaede (female ninja rocks it every time- hyah!!) Must be a part 2 ep 8 for the ending?

xxxHolic ep 2 - “An accident? Is there an accident in this world?” Dark, forbidden.

Off to watch (Raccoon Boys) Thriller for the umpteenth time (eeeee~smile~)

Owl - I am so glad xxxHolic is good, though I wonder how they're going to use the teeny-tiny number of episodes to cover an entire arc of the manga (because surely they can't do the whole manga, especially not the Tsubasa crossover parts...)

Required fields are marked *

I don't think they are even going to try cover the entire arc of the manga... I think they are just going to be episodical, without telling the greater story that emerges from the whole manga.

They might be purposefully open-ended so that if the 8 episodes are successful, they can just extend and do more seasons.

I haven't seen episode two yet, but I kinda suspect that they might re-write a smaller arc for the drama, because Kimihiro's mother appears in a flashback in episode one, but, ah...that's a bit different than what happens in the manga.

Pillowhead, I am new to japanese anime, and I really enjoyed Ouran High School Host Club anime. Also there are a couple of older anime movies, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, which you might like. I am watching xxxoholic as a jdrama without having previously read the manga. So, I don't have a comparison to make and so far, I like the jdrama version (it's eng subbed on dramacrazy.net)

If you want a really good anime, try "Natsuyuki Rendezvous" --a great haunting love story. But, if you like high school horror, try "Another." If you like just plain silly, try "Sket Dance"...although Sket Dance has a lot of wink-wink nudge-nudge visual references to other anime, it's definitely a tour de force of anime parody.

Now I have to wait for an optimum time to download before I can finish watching. But I love the little guy Hoo since he's so mature for his age (offered to live in the worst of the houses so that the hyung won't cry) and sweet (ah, the crush with the little girl is so cute!).

Omo Hoo's love for Ji Ah knows no bounds! The kids they chose are awesome. I love that each kid has a different dynamic with their dad. Ji ah has the adoring father who just pampers and gives into his kid. Hoo and his dad are basically best buds. Lee Jong Hyuk (A Gentleman's dignity guy) is that dad who is the same age as his kid. Joon reminds me of a little Sung Shi Kyung for some reason, I think it's the hairdo. I'm glad he's loosening up with his dad because I was quite worried in the beginning about how quiet he was. And the eldest kid (I forget his name), the 9 year old is a sweet kid but a bit of a cry baby. I can tell his father worries he cries too easily.

Another thing that cracks me up is how Joon and Lee Jong Hyuk's kid are always paired together but they don't have anything to talk about.

Hello, beanuts,

Just a drive-by posting, as I am leaving town in a couple of hours and am still sitting in my jammies, lol.

Finished FBND, loved the fluff. It kind of went wonky near the end, but I have to say I enjoyed it regardless. Now I'm attempting to catch up on QOA because of JoAnne and KLNoona's ravings about it. Love it so far, only up to eo 14, so still a couple more before I"m up to date. I dropped L7CS due to lack of time...so little time, no time to waste on dumb stuff and it was getting dumber and dumber. Trying to catch up on IOM, only on ep 8, but like it so far, KJH is hilarious.

That's about it. Proud of the beanut gallery for inundating evil DF with emails, and glad that they saw the error of their ways, at least this time. I wouldn't count on it not happening again, though, which is sad.

@RickyHRH said he wouldn't be on OT today because he's studying for a midterm tomorrow, but waves "hi" at everybody. Maybe he'll have time to be back next week. He's a hardworking student, though, so who knows....

Ya'll have a great weekend, I'm off with my BFF's and our daughters to a women/teen girl conference for the weekend.

1) I wish the episodes were longer

2) I had hoped the ladies were prettier. Shame on me for being shallow. :(

Yuko is okay but Himawari is a disappointment.

The story is ok I just curious how and where they plan on going since the amount of screen time is so short .

I agree about the episodes. Twenty three minutes (or twenty six minutes or whatever) feels too short for the narrative. I wanted them to cast Yuuko a bit older than they did. Himawari's hair really bothers me - I get that the pigtails are a mainstay of her character, but the way they did her bangs is really unflattering on that actress.

Also, from the sounds of things, they've done away with the comedy, which is too bad.

DramaBeans opened my eyes to shower scenes. Mr. hand Towel's posting had me ROFL. Huzzah to chocolate abs. Kakashi's shower scene posts made me smile.

But I got to thinking ... my focus has been on men getting soapy, but shouldn't women getting clean also be a list somewhere? Are there less scenes of women in the shower than men in Dramas?

These are a few of the female bathing scenes I could remember
Painter on the Wind: communual bathing at the river
Sungkyunkwan Scandal: Peeking at Kim Yoon Hee in the bathhouse
Love Rain: Hot Springs bathing surrounded by snow
When It's At Night: Art investigator at the Japanese spa
Fireworks: Falling into someone else's bathwater counts, right? Esp. if you steal their towel.
Tamra, The Island: JeJuDo diver Beo Jin needs an honorable mention for swimming
Hana Kimi: If you are pretending to be a boy, you should lock the shower door
Prosecutor Princess: Share a room with a stranger, don't fall asleep in the bath
Game Rai Game Rak: Nang Fah joining the boys at the swimming hole innocently

Hmm. I noticed that the ones I remember have more than one person.

Nang Fah is my favorite for her blissful joy "I'll shower with you. Why can't a man and woman shower together?" My sentiments exactly. ha ha ha

What are your favorite women in water scenes?

I think baths are more popular than shower scenes when it is a woman, just because women have bits up top that can't be shown,

Which reminds me of the story about Lwaxana Troi's mud bath filming on Star Trek where as the day went on the mud levels got lower and caused a whoopsie.

I rewatched Tamra The Island a couple of days ago, and I have to say that I loved most of the underwater scenes there, especially the one in the last episode, where all of the women divers work together to sink the ship. It's so beautiful, how the women divers did their parts to protect their island and also how the exact scene was shot, them diving into the sea with fireflies lamps in the night was stunning

The bath scene in SSK really cracked me up, seeing Moonie's expression and him hiccuping was just priceless!

And the shower scene in Hana Kimi also had me rofl-ed esp when Nakatsu had nosebleed because of that.. :D

I have a hypothetical for you...

Say, you were in one of those makjang accidents where a certain part of your memory was erased. In this case it was Asian dramas. You were told that in order to make a full recovery, you needed to jog your memory with the best dramas ever while you were bed ridden recovering from the other injuries. (Which is not instant! cancer or instant! blindness)

Which ones would you seriously choose for that hypothetical self? And which ones would you absolutely say that it would hurt your recovery?

I was considering this because there are some dramas I would watch while in bed... that I wouldn't normally like.

And you know I've watched a lot of dramas to come up with an overblown scenario like this.

For me:

Watch list

It Started with a Kiss and They Kiss Again. (Watch it for the gazillionth time, just give me the remote for the rain kiss scene so I can do it on auto play.)

Greatest Love
Near the end of my recovery, though, 'cause it's likely I'll be jumping about and cringing and crying over the potato.

Hotaru no Hikari
What I wouldn't give to be able to see it with utterly fresh eyes and have a marathon with it. (whole series)

Nodame Cantabile>
Chiaki-sama~

Trick (all)
Definitely would love to see it with fresh eyes.

Liar Game (Maybe not the second movie)
Near the end of the recovery. Makes you think and question a lot. Easily able to marathon it.

Hana Yori Dango
Full Series. And yes, the Japanese version. And keep that anime version away from me. This is perfect for drama recovery.

Reply 1997
OMG, drama crack. I just hope the subs are not from Dramafever and that Yoon Yoon Je's name is spelled correctly.

I'm on the fence about Goong and My Princess... I liked them, but I'm not sure I'd want to marathon them while immobile. I have others in this flavor too... where I really like them, but I don't know if I would like to marathon them, especially laying down.

Avoid list

I'm Sorry I Love You
I regret watching it at all. Mostly for the adoption issues and the overblown ending.

Prince's First Love
Scarred me for life as my first K-drama. I was lucky I recovered from the utter shock and came back. Sung Yuri was in it, which marred her reputation for being able to act such that the Hong Sisters thought they had to defend her for Hong Gil Dong. It did so poorly in Korea the max was 3%? I think? You can invent drinking games around it. One of the worst dramas ever. (was up on a bit torrent website for dramas, which I am not mentioning, since dramafever devils are watching) and was put in a poll for
seeding, and it failed for over three months to get enough support to get seeded. When people actually did watch it, the majority reported regretting it, just like the other commenters said they would.

Yeah, keep that drama away from me.

You? If you could clean your slate of dramas, which would you tell yourself to recover with?

Nodame Cantabile
Love Shuffle
Hana Kimi
Kimi wa Petto

Basically all the whacko ones that crack me up hundred miles an hour... Of course, if I had amnesia, I might run screaming from them, because, let's just say the first time I watched Nodame I did not get beyond episode one.

Later on (near the end of recovery) I think I would go for some bromance, you know, SUFFB and School 2013.

What I wouldn't watch... A Thousand Kisses and any others involving love triangles with exes or wannabe girlfriends as love rivals. And nothing melo (I don't watch that anyhow - only melo films).

All the damn scenes with Ariel and Joe together are enough for me to go squeeing eternally. So if I had amnesia, I would most certainly watch that series again and then for another million times. Then hope for another amnesia, LOL.

P.S. I'm so glad to know someone here who also adores this series as much as I do.

I love Winnie's dramas, but there is something about It Started with a Kiss and TKA that lends itself to this kind of watching more than his other dramas.

I mean, In Time with You I liked, but it's more like a lesson in art, direction and literature. And The Rose is excellent, but it's something I need a break to savor. (I stayed up late watching it the first time...)

I loosely belong to a group that helped sub TKA and ISWAK. But still, I've had to stop myself from marathoning it yet again a few times. (I bought the ISWAK box set raw, I loved it so much)

I realized a lot of my favorite dramas simply don't hold up to the bedridden situation. And some dramas I wish I could really purge my memory so I can enjoy it again instantly. Haha, brain injury to watch a drama. Anyway, yup, ISWAK and TKA definitely tops my list.

Required fields are marked *

Definitely agree with you...I also have a lot of dramas that I liked but none of them I would be willing to marathon again and again like I would for ISWAK and TKA. God bless Winnie....he made me live in the world he created in that series for like three years. It was super hard to break away from it since the first time I watched it. And when Playful Kiss came along, I was super duper happy that it didn't turn out better because no matter what, the Tdrama version would always be the best one for me.

And OMG, you were part of the subbing team? I FREAKING LOVE YOU. Seriously, I've always been so grateful to the subbers for doing a wonderful job with the series. Countless times I've blessed them over the years for letting me marathon the show over and over again. So I'm glad I met you....it gave me the chance to personally thank you. :)

My Watch List for this situation would certainly include my favorites, but being as I was bedridden, it might exclude some of my favorites that I might not be in the mood for if ill.

Watch List:

Reply 1997
Flower Boy Raymun Shop
The Woman that Still Wants to Marry
Secret Garden
Kim Sam Soon
Pasta

Faith-I know that I bitched about it enough, but it's damn visually pretty and the message is good, so I'd put it on this list.

I would also need to add music videos to this list, I'll keep the list minimal for times sake here lol-

TVXQ Mirotic

Rain doing Hip Song. I have about 3 performance of it I like. Here is one:

My list:

K-dramas:
- Gaksital (Lee Kang To as Gaksital will definitely help me recover)
- Tamra The Island (I would also choose Da Jang Geum, but since this one is shorter and lighter but still gives a same dose of heartwarming, I guess this would be better for my recovery period)
- Answer Me 1997 (because I'm the children of 90s and this is wonderfully nostalgic... although I assume in this hypothetical situation, my childhood memories are still intact? But well I'll definitely watch this again)

J-dramas:
- Nodame Cantabille (same with alua, I found the first episode too bizzare but somehow the comedy just pulled me in and laughter is one of the best medicines, right?)
- Nobuta wo Produce (because I need at least one Yamapi drama to jog my memories, and this one is my fave, although I would also watch Lunch Queen for the delicious food)
- Tokyo Love Story (my first Jdrama, and eventhough the ending left a sour taste in my mouth, I wouldn't mind watching this again and again. Rika Akana is probably one of my fave characters ever in dramaland, I used to want to grow up to be like her -I watched this when I was still in fourth grade, I think :D -)
- Change (because I need KimuTaku to jog my memories as well)

And I think I'll also need to watch at least one wuxia, The Return of Condor Heroes maybe?

Happy OT everybody!. I am actually not at work today so I can actually post. I am killing time before I start my oh so very long drive from SD to SLO and hope that the weather stays the way it is right now (sunny) and doesn't rain like planned.

Can't wait tlll my meeting is done so I can catch up on dramas and things. This talk I am giving has occupied my time for the past month.

The PSH case is becoming a circus. So convoluted.

I hope hope hope Kim Jae Wook gets casted in Goddess of Fire with Moon Geun Young. I loved their chemistry and felt it was wasted in MMM and overshadowed by the cuteness of GeunGeun. He speaks fluent japanese so that will help, he actually can act, and he is definitely pleasant on the eyes. Plus its about high time he starts getting main lead status and he needs a post-military drama. If its true that jaejoong is being considered, I hope he gets 2nd lead. He has potential and is relatively decent but should probably stick to secondary roles for awhile longer to build up his skills, I don't think he has the ability to be main lead just yet. But I don't know if he will take up the drama since I know JYJ is thinking about releasing an album later this year, but then again Yoochun the crazy one was shooting Miss Ripley when they released their last album and was touring.... so Jaejoong being just as crazy isn't that far fetched.

Agree on Kim Jae Wook. Jaejoong is okay, but he still doesn't have the range. He would pale next to Moon Geun Young, but with KJW we already know they work (as much as mess Marry Me Mary was scriptwise, the actors were fine).

Generally, if Moon Geun Young takes the drama I hope she gets cast with someone who is on her level. That's my minimal requirement... (is if I had a say in it ;-) ).

I have recently relocated to Texas, US (from Asia, due to hubby's job)! Since I am unemployed and have finished my studying, I decided that I have all the time in the world now to join in this FABULOUS community here at Dramabeans!! *fingers cross* I have always followed all the posts here, now I will try get in the spirit of things and try to read and contribute to the comments too.

Enough about me. On to more important things, dramas!

Currently excited about TWTWB! Loving HeadsNo2 recap and comments about the show trying to include the title (ha!).

Following L7CS on recaps only... really cannot sit through stories that don't make sense, hence I long bailed on IRIS (ep6) and Athena (ep9? Stuck in there for as long as I could for Kaedejun - even my love for Cha Seung-won and Kim So Yeon - my female bias, couldn't even make me watch that hot mess). I didn't even start IRIS 2! I am such a good girl, sticking to my mantra of life is too short for bad dramas.

Since I am quite free, really wondering if I should follow Incarnation of Money. A whee Kwang Ji Hwan fan after Hong Gil Dong.

Really excited about You're the Best - Lee Soon-Shin but I have no experience in following a weekend drama at all. Problem is, is it even going to get English sub?

Living is US gets me access to Viki which is really great. It is reliable and gets fan sub fast. You don't know how appreciative I am for Viki. Keep up the great work you multi-linguists out there who loves kdrama :) *cheering you on*

Welcome to the us, sunshower! I have family members in Texas, and it is a lovely place. I try to visit there as often I can.

And welcome to DB. I don't get to comment often because I'm at work during OT, so am not a good member of the community, but enjoy!

Also, welcome to OT and de-lurking after all this time.

I guess I should also welcome you to the USA as well.

WELCOME. Hope you moved to one of our big cities so you have access to the things that make you feel like you are home. (comfort foods, or people who speak your native tongue whatever that is)

I am loving TWTWB.

AMEN TO YOUR MANTRA " Life is too short for bad dramas."
I don't know why lots of dramas that are getting good reviews from the drama watching community doesn't really do it for me. I am extraordinarily picky with dramas. I tried watching Answer Me 1997(which everyone seems to love, given that this drama has been on so many people's favourite dramas list) but I couldn't even get through the 2nd episode. I couldn't connect to the characters idk why. This drama isn't bad,per se,but it simply wasn't for me. Another drama that I didn't dig was Joseon X Files.it was pretty cool but I couldn't get past 3 episodes of it. (Sigh,I still love you Kim Ji Hoon!) And then there's also Saikou No Rikon which a lot of people loved due to the witty and insight dialogues but I couldn't even get past the 2nd episode.(Seriously what is wrong with me?O.O)
There are some dramas out there that I somehow can feel whether it's a bad one right from the first few minutes of the first episode. Case in hand: IRIS 2,Yawang (Queen of Ambition),Paradise Ranch(OMIGAD WHY DID CHANGMIN EVEN SIGNED UP FOR THIS DRAMA IN THE FIRST PLACE?) And there also some dramas that gave me the "NO DON'T EVER WATCH ME VIBE" right off the bat although I've never watched even an episode of it. There's I Miss You,Fashion King,Dr.Jin,L7CS,Love Rain just to name a few.
Personally I feel that Yawang is just horribly atrocious.I know that there are a lots of people out there who'd probably disagree with me but NO,I dislike this drama to pieces. I did not like everything about it. The storyline, the background music, the characters and the makjangness of it. Not even Kwon Sang Woo can make me love it. I love Yunho as a singer,I really do but his acting simply doesn't cut it. Don't even get me started on Soo Ae's character in the drama. THIS DRAMA IS A MESS. Well apparently it is doing pretty well in the ratings the last I heard. *braces self for arrows from fans of this drama* >.<

I've been a dramafever subscriber since the beginning and while I enjoy that they have a pretty wide variety of shows to offer these days, tbh, their service has many problematic aspects. First of all the subtitles are mediocre and I noticed with the newer series entire sentences of dialogue will be untranslated! In Alice of Cheongdamdong there were important moments that were lost to me because chunks of dialogue were missing. They need to either hire better subbers or take their time posting the subs so they can do some major quality control before uploading. I know people will say that makes the wait too long but I would rather have QUALITY subs and wait then watch crap. It's worth it. But that's just my humble opinion.

Secondly, they have finally at least made their subtitles readable but only in certain formats. I use a roku player to stream from them to my TV and for awhile it was all white subs with not even a black outline so half the time you could barely read it. They have at least wised up in that respect and made the subs yellow which is easier to read but I noticed their itunes app still has the white subs and at times can't be read! So frustrating. I can't speak for the subs on their online site bc I don't use it but it seems to me it should be the same across the board.

Now if only Viki had a channel for my roku player I would probably cancel my DF subscription altogether but I assume they probably couldn't get the rights to do that with DF taking over everything. SIGH.

Hey! :-) One has thought of it.

Hardly anyone cares about the Womans Day here. :-(

Yes, for Mother's Day, there is the great promotion.
But what about the women who are not mothers? These women are worth nothing???? Maybe they want, but they can not have children. But that is not questioned.
I get so angry when I think about it ...

Hello, people of OT!

I've never posted in an OT before. I don't know why I'm always so nervous about it. For some reason.

I have to agree with the previous comments that the recent psychological meltdown via DF has strengthened the already awesome community here. Hurrah! And for that, I am posting in an OT for the very first time. :)

Javabeans, Girlfriday, when are you going to write something surrounding Park Shi Hoo's and the whole circus lawsuits?. Come on..it would be fun and I want to know your thoughts on the issue. With the whole alphabet character train from A to K to D to P, maybe your write up can become the sequel to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom where all the alphabets climb up the coconut court tree.

I appreciate that Javabeans and Girlfriday have kept mum on this issue.

Personally, I find that PSH is on my mind every day and the issue has clouded how I watch dramas as the Dramaland and Real Life blur a little. For example, when I watched "101st Proposal" and she had her scandal, it was a little more painful to watch and I was wondering if fans had put up banners for PSH like 101st did.

So knowing that I don't have to face the PSH news at Dramabeans is a relief. Just one opinion.

Yeah, I hope this site stays out of it. There's plenty of conversation on allkpop if you must follow the action.

Comments on both sides are so cringeworthy, and the behavior of everyone involved so unprofessional and immature, that I am glad Dramabeans has stayed out of the whole mess. Early on I attempted to weigh in with an analysis of possible outcomes and discourse on lessons that could be taken away from the whole sordid episode, but as it has spiralled further into lawsuits, invective, breathless hearsay, and continued fangirl gushing, I have given the whole thing up as a blot on my life that I can happily ignore.

Hello everyone, this is my first time in an Open Thread and I'm so excited to be here, especially after the whole Dramafever mess, so I'm here to show my support <3

Unfortunately, because of school, I can't watch any dramas right now, so I'm solely depending on DB's recaps to know what is going on with my favorite series, though I'm having a hard time trying to find information about End of the World, the other drama with a similar story to The Virus.

Oh, and if someone could tell me if Madame Butterfly (?) is a good show I'd appreciate it, I just need a good fake reason to watch Kim Sung Soo. I've been in love with him since Full House

Hi Alex Mottis. I don't participate often but read most comments on Fridays. Virus is now up on Hulu, and Madame Butterfly I'm watching on Viki; it is a melodrama but I've mostly enjoyed it and Viki does such an excellent job with subbing. Kim Sung-soo hasn't aged it bit and looks great. If you like him you might try watching the family drama "More Charming by the Day", it's on DramaFever.

Welcome to the OT, Alex! It's a stinker that DF did what they did to our beloved JB and GF, but it also seems to have made the DB community stronger. Go figure!

I've given up dramas for Lent, but even when I'm free to watch them I often too busy to watch more than 1 or 2 old ones at at time. So, you're not alone :)

hello beanies! what a week! the dramafever fiasco and my own personal stuff i am ready for the weekend. just getting over my last bout of Plague, this time almost 2 weeks in bed. i was too sick for dramas even short ones (which i didn't think possible but was) but i did get a few movies in: the theives, werewolf boy, suspect x, gwanghee/masquerade, and i am king. the similiarities between those last two movies made me laugh, it might have been the drugs though... i can eat again and oh the persimmons i will be eating! even chocolate hasn't curbed the craving i have for their sweetness.
on another note no antelopes (so far) and my landlord backtracked on charging us for the damaged trees and putting up fencing to protect those trees from further damage. also one of my cats was let outside tuesday because of good weather...without his collar. no news from neighbors, vets, humane society, or animal control. he is a homebody never venturing further than the yard, not even going across the gravel road to tease the cop's dogs like his brother. i fear the worst. especially since ive been sick and havent been able to look after him or his brother in my normal crazycat lady fashion. if he's adopted (or forbid dead) it just won't be the same watching dramas or movies without him curled beside me. sniff.
mystery solved about why so many sites were closing. i'm glad and thankful dramabeans stood their ground while also complying with legalities and doing so with grace and humor. hip hip hurray for dramabeans!! that being said i must quote the big bang theory "got your back jack, bitches be crazy." and dramafever is crazy and looking like a mean bully going after fans and communities like they are, especially those that helped them start and 'let' use subs. the best way to have voices heard is by actually talking/writing and the best way to hurt greed is by not giving it money. this is exactly the correct thing we beanies and dramabeans are doing. dramafever is now begining to feel the wrath...
i know i introduced several people to kdrama through their site and regret it: slow, subpar subs, and now just plain vicious business practices. no more i'll be cutting ties with them. i even convicned some friends to leave with me and we are discussing whether to leave hulu over it too since they are affiliated with dramafever.
congratulations again to dramabeans!!

This week just sucks.... I haven't seen a minute of a k-drama, j-drama, t-drama or whatever drama.. or movie... managed to get into a quarrel with my colleague at my volunteer work...still fuming... and then the DMCA hit Dramabeans... Murphy's laws in full gear...

Luckily... I have the Dramabeans' latest podcast on repeat on my mp3 player to keep me sane :--)
Wishing you all nice weekend... and lot of sun!

Happy Friday everyone!

First of all, congrats to the entire Dramabeans nation for triumphing over the evil forces of Dramafever! As always, thanks to javabeans and girlfriday for being awesome - fighting!

Anyways, I'm worried that this post might get buried because I have a few questions to ask about torrenting. I'm going back to China for three weeks, and will have very little access to internet. Naturally my addiction won't let me stop indulging in dramas, but up till now I've always been streaming my dramas (dramacrazy, epdrama, mysoju RIP, etc.)... So for the first-time torrenter, have you got any tips? Download sites for both dramas and subs would be much appreciated, as would any how-to guides.

Thanks!

Required fields are marked *

I keep on thinking to make a list like that... particularly to remember some of the older dramas that I missed because I wasn't watching dramas yet. I come across something that looks interesting or that everyone has said is amazing, forget to put it one some sort of central list and stumble across the drama months later, only to marathon it and shake my head over not having watched it ages ago already.

Pride, Love Shuffle, Nagareboshi all were like that for me.

Hm. If something is in the same sentence with Pride and Love Shuffle, then I think I need to add it to MY "To Be Watched" list...

I don't think it's as high profile as Pride or Love Shuffle, but it's a lovely drama (more Pride than Love Shuffle) that tackles serious questions but heartwarming. There is a love story, but it's sort of muted, the main thing is the family love, which however is what paves the way for love love eventually... :-)

It really helps. Otherwise I feel overwhelmed. Plus, I really felt like I needed to limit myself.

Thing is, no one drama has been holding my attention consistently since KOD and School. I had high hopes for TWTWB, but got bored surprisingly fast.

Right now, I'm digging Hundred Years, Ad Genius, and Incarnation of Money (just when I was about to drop all three completely too!) so let's see how long that lasts. :-)

Hey everyone....

lately Kdramas have been lackluster to say the least...from Level 7 to the Monday night shows......but i haven't started watching TWTWB n i have heard positive things about that...Here's hoping to better dramas in the future.

started IRIS II....started off really slow but its slowly getting better...i find that m more interested in Baek San's story and find myself hoping for a happy ending for him.......lulz...i don't think i was expecting that... m still on episode 6, but that twist is CRAY!!!!! no spoilers for those who r currently watching n not up to that episode n for those who want to watch it later....the romance is meh for me.....i accept it as part of the story...doesn't get me hot n bothered which i did not expect....that is what i liked about IRIS....

looking forward like a mad person to Special Affairs Team Ten season 2 which is coming out in April....colored me EXCITED!!!!!

oh n dear DF, i never liked u before for all d bull u pulled in the past, but i was fine cause i have Viki and HuluPlus (even thou u guys have an agreement, but it means i don't need to go on ur site), but the shit u pulled this week plus d ~exclusive~ rights shit on IRIS II that u guys pulled and all the things i have been learning about what u guys have been doing, IM F***ing pissed at u n i will forever boycott ur site as long as i watch Kdramas.
