Just gotta say, every now and then I hear a "boom-shaka-laka" (which may or may not be followed by a command to "get your cray on!") that then follows me around for another few hours.

WHAT HAVE YOU PEOPLE DONE TO ME?! Just sayin'. Pardon me while I look up some Tokyo Jihen ;)

Non-drama Korean question for anyone still reading this:

Any links for traditional Korean jewelry? Pics will do, since I'm just curious what it looks like.

Unfortunately no links, but just from my own observation, jewelry tends to be, like, hair decorations or decorations for clothing. But then why have fancy jewelry boxes? This certainly seems like a question for an expert.

Any historical drama, I spend way too much time admiring the hair jewelry. Like in "Palace", the concubines are having serious discussions and I am watching the hair doodad swinging back and forth and wondering where I could buy me one of those. Ha ha ha.

By far, Chinese historical dramas have the best costumes.

Legend of Zhen Huan is gorgeous.

hi fellow beanuts! gonna have to write like no one's reading i suppose.

just finished watching episode 6 of TWTWB and i have to say that almost none of the dramas with medical conditions ever make sense to me. nice guy with the impending exploding brain and the cognitve impairment with no phyiscal disability and now, this one with retinitis pigmentosa that could be surgically treated. what rubbish. just have to rol ey and let pas and continue to watch.

also, why do all second lead female characters have this character from antz look and have a love of muppet inspired coats??! why??

right now, TWTWB is all i am following. i still need to complete the last two episodes of FBND, for completion's sake. wondering which old one to marathon. joseon xfiles, 9 ends 2 out or for joAnne, sangdoo? hmmm.

I completely agree re: TWTWB. I thought the brain tumor was overkill. There are multiple causes for blindness, you'd think they could pick a non-cancer route. But nooo.

9 End 2 Outs is pretty cute, would recommend. Though I have heard good things about Joseon X-Files.

I don't understand why they can't get their medical conditions more believable, even if inaccurate. I find myself baffled when trying to figure out what would fit into the particular condition and then they will mention one that doesn't present like that!

Just have to roll with it for the story I suppose :)

Brace yourself. This is lengthy.

Good evening from the Philippines! I want to ask about something I observed while watching a Korean Drama.

[SPOILERS AHEAD T_T]
At the moment, I am watching Childless Good Fortune. I'm not sure if you guys are watching it but to wit: Seo-young, played by 엄지원, is a 37-year old prosecutor who lives away from the family. I've only seen about 7 episodes of it but from what I can gather, her parents especially her dad, and her two younger brothers are extremely proud of her. Even the rest of the family have high hopes for her becoming a judge one day. But, a Kdrama gods would have it, her ultimate secret was soon outed after her aunt saw her and her very pregnant belly. Soon, her parents found out. And here's what I got confused about, and frankly, keeping me from fully enjoying the drama because I can't fully comprehend the logic behind it. Except the part where the parents threw a hissy fit over it, THAT I can understand. A little help, pretty please?

1. Why did that create such a ruckus? The drama mentioned 'reputation' multiple times and I got a sense that she became an embarrassment to the whole clan. Is that all of it? Isn't she a 37 year old independent woman who can make informed choices on her own? I mean is her parents supposed to still have that much hold on her because she's yet to be married?

2. Why did they go to such lengths in trying to convince her to get rid of the child? Like setting it up for adoption? Isn't Korean culture big on family ties (like living with the parents even if already married, taking care of parents)? Or does this not apply to bastards? I'ts one of the drama tropes in sageuk dramas but is it still the today? Maybe those traditional ones?

3. After all the push and pull, and the multiple lies they've told their patriarch, played by 이순재, the baby gets handed down to her youngest brother who's, I'm guessing, only 25 in the drama. The drama made mention of him being male and thus, getting more leeway than his noona. But do the adults really think that a 20-something 'aspiring barista' (Pffft!) make for a better parental figure than a 37-year old woman for the baby girl?

4. And lastly, is how the seemingly smart and capable woman gave up her daughter after her months of ordeal (she was looking like death warmed over her while she was pregnant) to her brother --but I think and hope it's her parents who would actually take care of the child-- because the baby wouldn't stop crying through the night. I just think she gave up too easily. I would've believe it if it wasn't just one sleepless night. And I would've believe it was because she was in pain from her C-section but the drama didn't care to show me how she was in pain while ambulating so no, I'm going to ignore that part. She's not going to be discharged overnight if she actually got operated on, so no, she's in mild pain for me. Not enough to give up her daughter after keeping it from the whole clan and the sperm donor.

I hope you guys can help! I know it's quite lengthy but I'd love to understand some, if not all, about Korean culture on gender roles.

i'd love to hear from you guys especially those who are really familiar with the Korean culture.

I'm only till episode 8 of this since I'm still waiting for the subs so I don't know how the story played out by the 30++ episodes so if the drama sheds some light about it on the next episodes then please let me know :)
