I’ve been feeling like a goat lately when viewing dramas.

    Meh. Meh.

Or a Sheep who learned German.
    Bleeech. Bleeech.

    This week in dramas:

Horse Doctor (Boar doctor–well he’s compared to being worse than a pig as well as this show often being boring)

The secret is out and for some reason I don’t give a damn, but I’m still watching and I don’t know why.

They ended on a “cliffhanger” and I seriously put that on quotes and I’m like are they going to pull a deus ex machina instead of having the girl rescue herself through her own deeds (OMG, men are going to rescue her to the end.)

Why I like the Princess better is she’s spunky, she defies, yet works with society and she rescues herself (despite the bad direction and the writing that makes her go “What?”) I wanted a character like *that* who enjoys her social status to be a heroine.

Writer, you are getting lazy and it’s showing. Director–your cuts are either too long or awkward.

I think good writing and directing is something that builds up on you and is subtle not heavy handed and that’s where this show is going wrong. The writer and director and fighting to let the people know that this is THEIR SHOW, but a good show is a cooperative effort so putting in more of your quirks to show off will hurt the show.

This is another drama that could have benefitted from at least 10 episodes cut, because by this time I don’t feel character investment mostly through lousy writing and directing.

Upside, because it’s so boring and formulaic, I was able to learn how to make lace.

    Level 7 Servant
I said it before and I’ll say it again, this show needed episodes cut. For the love of whatever is holy, why oh why was it 20 episodes? It could have done better with 16. The problem is basically that the spy stuff wasn’t amped up and I think the climax would have been more intense if the spy stuff and the romance stuff was overlapped as an echo of each other.

(But then I’m talking as a writer… so… I guess you could call this advice…)

    Nine
    Arrggghhh.

I’ll give it another week, but there are problems I want it to address (from the purely mechanical writing angle).

Such as the emotional hook being in the third act, rather than leading with it. Such as burying the lead without hooking on the fundamentals of plot.

I like the characters well enough to give it another shot, but my patience is running thin. (Plus I kinda think the lead is a Jerk… which doesn’t catch my heart)

    Japanese dramas
Uggghhhh. I’m pulling the goat for this one so far. Meh. I’m interested in Dinner, semi, but really, as a hobby cook I caught some food mistakes… which I let slide about three times. Also a drama that lost it…

Biblio will finish soon, which I still like, but it’s giving me fantasies of having a book version of viki where public domain books are translated into various languages by users. (with teams attached). In another words liscensed. The tech exists… and I have the social skills to set it up, but I suck at the programming… Putting the idea out there, though, in the hopes that someone agrees enough to make it happen. (I also have how to make it money without the ads.)

    Requested Nakuna Hara-chan
Viki said it will probably take a while, but didn’t clear me to start the channel, but if they get the license, they would let me know first. (I’m first in line).

I think this could be good drama crack, since it’s been solid, yet unique at the same time. (from the Japanese I do know)

That said, in substitution this week…

I worked on the script and got stuck. Sent it to a friend to get me unstuck. (I think my frustration with dramas is showing because one of the characters is a loose cannon)

    I bought several books on Korea. And I taught myself how to make lace. (my stitches are still ugly, but not as frustrating as the drama selection.) Joseon court and one on Muism. I’m brewing another novel. (Though I should be writing the other stories–the ones that have promise of being published… –;;

Anyway, the Joseon Court one (on daily life) is pretty good. Though I learned a lot of what it has from sageuk. Which made me wonder how many I actually watched. (And then I cried at the lack of good sageuk)

And then the book on muism too… which looks excellent. Makes me say that I wish the real muism was represented in Korean dramas, because it is the definition of an underdog. Not the fakey (Moon and sun, I’m looking at you) stuff, but the real stuff.

So overall, my frustration at the lack of dramas is eating at me such that I’m finding myself writing more and more Korean stuff. Also probably because I’m stuck on my main book. (I hate rewrites)

I also crammed in Skip Beat anime yesterday. My second favorite anime. I like the Ren types. You can see the pattern of the type of men I like in Chiaki, Bucho and Ren. =P How, especially with a dork twist. It’s not so much the critical nature, but the pushing their women forward, encouraging independence, being supportive, letting them figure things out and being able to read them well enough and knowing them well enough to push them towards their real self without imposing their own ideals. (Or why I also like Park Hae Young) HOT.

Running Man and Kpop star this week rescued me from total dispair. But I’m going to kick the Drama Gods, very, very soon.

    To the Drama Gods

My name might mean Gold Bright Beauty” in which the “Beauty” can be broken into “Big sheep/ goat”,” but if you make me Meh and blech one more time because you’ve lost bets to the Movie Gods, I think I need to buy me a pitchfork and learn how to walk on two feet to fry you. Then you’ll see the bright beauty of that and perhaps earn yourself some gold.

    I demand drama crack.

(I have no idea why I see the movie gods and the drama gods playing poker/hwatu (Go stop) while their wives are getting upset at them for messing with their watching pleasures. A different Olympus, eh?)

    GAME
To the lovely (sarangun) Chingu deul.

Can you form sentences with the titles of various Asian dramas?

The winter, the wind blows east of eden. All about my romance virus mandates of heaven. I really really like you Running Man.

    • 1.1 Carole McDonnell

Off to Michiru’s bookstore on the unlicensed lot in Mahoro to see Tonbi who is infected for the ninth time with that Virus.

Hope your script gets unstuck soon.

    • 1.2 JoAnne

To the beautiful you, delightful girl Choon Yang!

      Not really a sentence.

Neither is this but the image made me laugh:

200lb beauty, stars falling from the sky: couple or trouble?

Take care of the young lady when a man can’t marry.

      Ok that was a sentence.

    • 1.3 Mystisith

The rewriting pain: I feel you. I better trash the thing than work on something flawed from the get go. Of course, it helps a lot with productivity…

This week, I tried the worst Mike He drama ever: Spring Love. Is the man to die for in it? Yes. Is that thing unwatchable and total crap? YES. If you need some bitter laugh in your life or if you have too many brain cells, that’s for you. It’s supposed to be only 14 eps (unusual for a TW drama), maybe someone pulled the plug…

      • 1.3.1 KimYoonmi

Mike He persisted with a mullet for so long, I celebrated when he cut it.

Much easier to write something flawed than rewrite, but one has to rewrite to get better.

I hope feedback will get my script unstuck. =P And excessive editing from dramabeaners will show up the dramas from this season (so far).

Hey, I can have fantasies about Kwang Soo playing a total dork in a drama… why not share it with the world?

    • 1.6 Laurita

Hey, I love skip beat too :)

As the for the book-thing, as I didn’t see that drama so I’m not sure if I understood correctly, but I’ve seen something like this in a forum, where some users translated some books for others to read just for fun (I don’t have the page saved though). I think it’s a good idea, but what I would fear is that the quality of books would go down… And I’m starting to understand how hard is to translate and convey the book properly… I understand how such thing is done with mangas or anime, but that’s quite different with real books. :)

      • 1.6.1 KimYoonmi

There would be a head translator who would do the checks, while other people translate particular phrases. The head translator and the head editor would help make the project more cohesive. (Which is how it works on Viki anyway). There would be a coordinator too. Probably still would need people to either type up the book, or input it somehow. (and split it by sentences/phrases)

Because more words are being translated, it also means the speed would go up.

The advantage is that though the books are free online, the made up company can either sell the rights for print back to the original company (if there is a license) or make it available for print through third party options.

I was also thinking that one could get funding through cultural centers, such as the Korean cultural branch of the government.

You can also tie it into the self-publishing market opening through e-books, which would solve one of the major roadblocks to self-publishing in the US.

The users in turn, get to learn the language they are working on, see versions and quality checks and after a while, if it gets big enough you can create sentence and phrase dictionaries.

To block the google effect, the entire sentence would need to be translated, or at least the phrases for it to count.

And you can block the problems with dramafever, by fostering the community of readers and people who want to read internationally.

Because you license the books still under copyright protection (Maybe it’s completed its print run), you can also boost domestic sales of that book.

It also has the added benefit, if helmed correctly to fight the type of discrimination I see in the traditional publishing market. That is anyone of color, not from Europe only has one kind of story told about them: Sad and depressing, or being rescued by White people. (Well, at least US). Which is prevalent in the foreign markets.

I have the schema, and know enough about the publishing industry, I just don’t have the management skill nor the programming ability to pull it off.

Books are more words, but think about it: How awesome would it be to read Sun/Moon in English? Or Personal Preference? Or Coffee Prince? Stories that tell about every day life in Korea that aren’t framed by the Japanese occupation, the Korean War or suicide? (I got the idea when I could read parts of Sun/Moon in the original Korean, yet couldn’t get all of it.)

Or read and automatically know the books and references that people point out?

I think it would make the world a little more of an awesome place. Plus, if done right, with a database of phrases used in Literature, it might be something that the corporations want to use in order to translate websites more accurately.

But I do think starting small is the right shot. Public Domain books of literature, divide into teams, and then start from there.

I know the tech is there… it’s just a matter of someone willing to put in the hours to do so. (Plus I need to up my skill on reading Korean and Japanese)

        • 1.6.1.1 KimYoonmi

*Foreign market imports. ^^;; Wasn’t sure if that was clear.

That’s not fair..since drama’s title come in many variations in English.

By the way, does anybody know how to know how to read replies on the mobile app?

  2. Dorotka

This week we were hit by a snow storm. I got stuck with my car. Had to use snow chains… and a shovel. But after 1 hour of heavy work I could finally move. I want spring!

Not much advancement in drama watching. Managed first 2 episodes of our best LSS. The story is so far predictable and I can’t say I’m sucked in… but I like Yoo In Na and Jo Jung Seok.
And I sort of miss Lee Mi Sook from “Can we get married?”…

Finished Nodame Cantabile. Tamaki Hiroshi is my new crush :–)

Nice Friday and weekend to all!

    • 2.1 kopytko

      Nice weekend to You too!
This winter, the wind is blowing – I hope it will bring us spring soon :)

    • 2.2 Sabah

I’ve been a fan of Yoo In na since Secret garden and have managed to watch everything she has been in except High Kick but at 50 episodes, I don’t know…Is her part big? I mean it is very much centralized on the main couple? Is there anything that is very off putting?

There’s also Jo Jung Suk. I guess I should stop whining and just watch and find out for myself…hehe

    • 2.3 Windsun33

The only thing I am watching right now in dramas is “Queen of Ambition”. A couple of others I was watching just kind of petered out, interest-wise. They really need to stop making these 20-24 episode series if they don’t have competent writers. Was watching Substiture Princess, but even that has gotten kind of Bleh, with so many holes in the story now that it looks like the writers all got replaced by comic book writers.

      • 2.3.1 Ann

Queen of Ambition! How many more evil acts can that girl cram into the remaining episodes!

        • 2.3.1.1 LizJ

Her part (and direct guilt) in it all is escalating. This was the first murder attempt she deliberately had a part in planning, and she actually was present to lead the prospective victim to his death. Before the other brother was killed earlier, she appealed (falsely) to her brother to keep her safe, acting in fear for her life. He then took it upon himself to kill the (wrong) guy (vs. any number of other things he could have done). This time around they were partners.

Since she’s already hooked up with the soon-to-be-president, it appears that we will be hitting the time of the series opening scene soon. Does anyone know how long this show is supposed to last?

      • 2.3.2 TS

You know, I’m starting to check for dramas 16 and less, and even then, I skim: try out a coup,e in the beginning, a couple in the middle and then the last two.

Frankly, movies look better and better right now.

    • 2.4 latteholic

Yeay, Chiaki-senpai! :) I was crushing on him as well.. Until he got skinnier in season 2 and the movies…

And happy weekend to you too!

      • 2.4.1 Laurita

Chiaki-senpai! Awww, who didn’t have the crush on this one :) Loved it so much :)

      • 2.4.2 KimYoonmi

I heard he was sick, ’cause he lost a ton of weight during Shika… there were rumors floating that he had an eating disorder, but I’d put more stock into the idea he was seriously ill since he’s gained most of that weight back…

        Anyway, Chiaki-senpai is hot~ I like that type…

    • 2.5 Jadielaw

      Hmmm….agree about Tamaki Hiroshi!

  3. Julia

I’ve been at a loss since FBND without any Korean dramas I was watching, but this week I have been rewarded with Nine. I was braced for time travel disappointment, but Nine seems fresh and I adore the lead Sun-Woo. He had me at the first kiss. I’m glad Carole McDonnell and JoAnne seem to be on the same band wagon with me.

What’s up with ‘Nobunaga no Chef’? Tell me it didn’t just leave me hanging at episode 8 waiting for a second season or a special to complete the series. ARGH!!!

I watched 5 episodes of ‘Share House no Koibito’. I am very uncertain about this drama, queasy over unwanted attention and touch, uncomfortable with the strange triangle instead of laughing. I’m not sure the writers will take care of me and bring me to a happy place. Anyone else think of Mork when the roommate tells her he is an alien?

I enjoyed watching ‘Shiawase ni Narou yo’. I cared about the characters. I felt their struggles with feelings for ex’s. I wanted the unloved to find love by realizing their own flaws. I wanted the dysfunctional family to reconnect. I wanted the kind man who can help others to get his own happiness. I got a sense of realism and complexity to the characters. Thumbs up recommendation.

The actor who played Komatsubara (Ohkura Koji) had a marvelous physical comedy. I felt awkward the moment he stepped in the room … the way he swatted to downplay his height … the tackling hugs as he clung to his marriage advisor … the energy he infused to the role … BRAVO!

    • 3.1 Pillowhead

I’ve heard Nine is good from several people now. Good, I need something to watch that can balance out the heavy melo of TWTWB. :D
I commenting on you post about HandTowel’s water photo. They were shooting that drama where I live this week and I stalked them to death and never got even a glimps of HandTowel. I’m so frustrated. Ugh.

But if SSH walked past me, I know I would stare. Hope you get a glimpse of him some day.

I spent my first 13 years on Cape Cod, Pillowhead, and lots of time as an adult too. Where do you go? I grew up in Falmouth, not all that far from the Heights – on Maravista, maybe a mile from the ocean.

          • 3.1.3.2.2 Pillowhead

Jinjja Joanne!! gosh i was so young, i dont think i went anywhere but to the beach and sometimes we’d go to Ptown to get taffy. lol. so quaint. I think it was wellfleet but my aunt house is there too and I maybe mixing them up. My cousin now owes the house so I’ll ask her where exactly it is. What a great place to grow up!! Lucky duck!

Williamstown MA at the VT/NY border in Berkshires.

I lived for 5 years in Wareham, gateway to Cape Cod, worked in a library in Onset and Wendy’s in Hyannis and the old Kings’ Dept Store … back when I was 19 and being diven mildly insane by being the center of a love triangle and date night was at the arcade or walking by the canal or picnic at the beach.

ahh i c. i thought they went to the hamptons or something. How cool. I’ll have to remember that theater the next time I’m that way!

        • 3.1.3.3 will work for soju

After I graduated from college in the 90s, I had a summer job at the upscale bar where the actors hung out and waited on Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward while Marisa Tomei danced on the tables. Best job ever! Where in the Berkshires are you, Julia?

          • 3.1.3.3.1 Pillowhead

wow. was marisa tomei doing that for fun or a job? haha. What did Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward look like in person? I bet they were beautiful!!!!

I’m gng out of town, so I’m saving Nine for when I get back. I’ll follow the recaps until then,

I know a lotta folks got burned out on the time travel thing but to me a good “let me travel back and repair the past” story is like a good mystery. So many little things one has to notice. So much planning by the writer(s). So much world-building, in which they have to stick to their rules and make the rules understandable to us viewers. So much awareness of setting and history. So much doubling and tripling and point/counter-point stuff going on. To me, time travels are such a tour de force of creation that when they work, they really work well. They’re like puzzles, and I love puzzles.

I went googling and it looks as if Nobunaga has 12 episodes. But who knows? Maybe i misinterpreted my googling. Hoping to see episode 9 soon. In that time travelling, I just want the main character in the present. I don’t care which girl he ends up with, as long as they don’t do something silly like putting him and Natsu in the past as a couple. That would inevitably mess up history…what with kids and interesting cuisine and all. So, will see. It’s a Japanese drama so I know they aren’t as committed to the HEA as I am so will see what they do to keep Ken and Natsu apart or together.

      • 3.2.1 KimYoonmi

I roughly know what will happen since I watched Gou (which was excellent, but didn’t seem like anyone else watched it.)

But the cooking angle is entertaining. I looked up the manga version of it, and it turns out that the mangaka has done only cooking manga before. So I trust he really knows his stuff which was translated to the drama.

        • 3.2.1.1 Carole McDonnell

So Gou is the same drama as Nobunaga…somewhat? Same writers? Will see what happens.

          • 3.2.1.1.1 KimYoonmi

Gou was set in the same time period and has really excellent actors and writing. Minus the cooking, but gorgeous sets and covers that history very well. For me who took a Japanese history class, I finally understood a lot of what I was missing from before.

The mangaka is a different issue. ^^;; Just pointing out that he’s only done cooking manga.

I do hope Ken ends up with Natsu, though.

        • 3.2.1.2 Carole McDonnell

Ken seems to have ended up with Youko in the 9th episode. Which seems like the last one. I’m not pleased with the ending. As a time travel person…I can’t help but thinking of how having an additional person in the past can mess up a whole ton of futures. And why did the old man say Ken should return to Heisei? Very troubling. I almost feel as if the writers changed the ending because so many folks were shipping Ken and Natsu.

@Julia Nobunaga Chef was off air due to the baseball…it’ll resume next week.

  4. Leaf

    Happy OT Everyone!!!
I have no idea if this message will get though as Leaf accidently slipped into a Parallel Universe. She hasn’t yet found her way back.
So basically, when I went out this week a friend asked me if I would be his girlfriend. This is the first time I’ve ever been asked out.
Also that night I had two friends tell me I should go out with another friend. Everyone seems to think there is something between us even though we are just friends. But we have actually been messaging a lot and he is really really nice to me. I can see why they would think this.
Also another guy (who we normally abuse each other) started tell me how beautiful and smart I was and that I looked stunning and everything REPEATEDLY. The smart thing is actually quite funny and why he calls me Mensa. He was arguing that he was cleverer than everyone and I went ‘No I don’t think so.’ And he was like ‘Prove it.’ And so I whipped out my Mensa card and won the argument haha. Hence I am now ‘Mensa’.
And the weirdest thing is that I know these aren’t the only guys that like me. One of my friends claims she has the super power of being able to tell which guys want to have sex with me (trust me… this isn’t even the most disturbing thing we’ve talked about ^shudders^) but she won’t tell me who does as I would crush their poor little hearts haha. Also… she’s been sworn to secrecy. But I know they are not previously mentioned guys.
So yeah… after 19 years of being invisible to guys I suddenly have a whole group of guys that like me… enough for a frigging harem.
I mean this has been an ongoing process from the beginning of this (academic) year when I got chatted up for the first time. But this week everything just blew up.
Anyway… Leaf officially kinda has a love life now… and it’s messed up and I don’t like it. It’s kinda freaking me out. I really don’t think I could do the relationship thing. And I don’t want to.
And to all of you waiting for an update on Super Hot Korean Guy… haha… oh dear god that’s got even weirder than it was before. Seriously… I can’t even begin to understand our relationship. Basically he’s stopped coming out with us even though our Rock Society (the place where this stuff all happens) is his ‘favourite place and where he’s happiest’. So yeah… things are weird and I’ll probably elaborate more when I do actually see him again…
But contrary to what the previous paragraph states I am actually over him. See… I’ve become close friends with one of the people he’s started hanging out with now that he goes to the Union more (and he doesn’t even frigging like the Union haha). And well… I’m 99% sure she has a crush on him. I mean, it’s kinda obvious to me as she acts exactly the same way I used too but worse haha. And you know what I felt? I felt sorry for her, cause I know exactly what she’s going to go through and how she’s just gonna get hurt. So yay me!! I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d get to that point but I managed :D Kind of proud of that.
So yeah… sorry for the overly long post but as you can see my life is pretty weird at the moment and writing this all out helps me. Also this is a site about dramas and my life has suddenly turned into one… so yeah… enjoy! I imagine I will have more updates in the future… who could’ve guessed my life would become interesting…?

    • 4.1 Dorotka

Oh, Leaf, your lovelife is always interesting :–)
A sudden outbreak of boys in love with you?
Well, better than when guys are telling me NOW how they had a crush on me 15yrs ago and how attractive I was… when at that time I thought nobody loved me…

Personally, I have to admit I’m glad that phase of life is behind me and I’m happily married with kids.

Wish you that you find the best partner for you, being it a Korean or not…

      • 4.1.1 zgznoona

I know how that feels. I had the same happened to me, and wonder why guys can tell you how they feel when at the moment. Instead of years later, and some time they have told my mom like “You know back them, all the guy is the group like zgznoona” puberty sucks

    • 4.2 shel

Hi Leaf! I haven’t talked to you in ages. Your life def sounds interesting and almost Kdrama-ish, lol. Good luck sorting all that out. Just be careful…

    • 4.3 Pillowhead

your life is always interesting! So do u like any of them? the mensa guy sounds kinda funny. :D

      • 4.3.1 Leaf

No I do not like any of them. And I’m so so far from wanting a relationship at the moment. I’m… urgg… just weird haha.

But the second guy is probably the one I’d go out with if I had to pick.
He’s promised to make me scones and cheesecake! haha.
See he has this thing where he learns new skills in order to try and seduce women (an area he fails at lol) and one of them was he learn to make scones. I was like ‘I love scones! Scone making should totally be a skill that prospective boyfriends have to demonstrate.’ So now he’s gonna test this on me and make me scones haha.

Then the guy who asked me out. He’s nice if socially awkward haha.

Then Mensa guy is really quite annoying and I’m kinda disturbed he is actually being nice to me haha.

So yeah… haha. This is seriously so weird for me…

        • 4.3.1.1 Pillowhead

lol. well, ok, i guess that enough reason to date him lol…WAIT.. yeah it is…. cooking anything is a good sign. my boyfriend (ugh hate calling him boyfriend at my age) loves to cook and feed me. It’s a beautiful thing. I don’t cook at all.

          • 4.3.1.1.1 Pillowhead

oh Leaf… did u c? Enz and i r going to korea next month and we r going to drink soju with gummy bears. any advise?

          • 4.3.1.1.2 Leaf

OMG HAVE SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!

Seriously I loved my time in Korea and I bet you’ll have just as great a time as me <3

And don't have too much soju ;) BUT HAVE ALL THE FOOD <3
            Seriously… eat everything <3

          • 4.3.1.1.3 Pillowhead

oooh yeah. don’t u worry. :9. food will be eaten’d. so soju gummy bear – no good? mann. i’ve been wanting to try that.

          • 4.3.1.1.4 Leaf

No… Soju Gummy Bears are too good ;)
That’s why I said don’t have too much haha.

So yeah. Take a shot glass, put a gummy bear at the bottom and then pour the soju in. You don’t have to let them soak or anything.

            Then drink <3

Then pass out and get a cute guy to piggyback you home obviously ;)

          • 4.3.1.1.5 Belle3005

HAVE FUN IN KOREA! :D Sigh,I miss going there. :3 It’s spring over there now right?

          • 4.3.1.1.6 enz

belle, not if you are watching the dramas right now.. they still look like they are in winter!! esp when you come from the tropics!! anyway, whats this about fummy bear adulterated soju?? swhich drama is tat in? i am going to do soju nd go kkkkkkkkkkkkkk in my throuat and with a wince!

          • 4.3.1.1.7 Pillowhead

Thanks Belle3005! Leaf hehe, a piggyback ride would really be perfect. Enz, Leaf was talking about the soju/gummy shots a few weeks ago. We’re going to try it!

        • 4.3.1.2 Owl

Socially awkward can be fixed, leaf. Either that, or it may be an endearing trait that will grow on you…

          • 4.3.1.2.1 nomad

AGREED! *proudly married to a socially awkward man and loving it!*

          • 4.3.1.2.2 Leaf

It’s not so much the socially awkward thing… it would be majorly hypercritical for me to disregard someone because of that. Just… we would so so so so not work well together.

    • 4.4 Carole McDonnell

Dang! Nineteen years of invisibility! Not good! Am glad the universe is rewarding you and removing that invisibility cloak. Have fun! Ah, harem…well reverse harem!

    • 4.5 myweithisway

Aww, leaf has a harem now!

I’m just going to say that don’t get into a relationship for the sake of being in one, that is, if you can’t handle it for whatever reason, then get out. You’re young, talented, and smart (mensa!) and there will be more guys. Do what you feel is right.

On the other hand, if any of these guys mess with you, your DB friends & unnis are gonna have a word or two with them (…and not all of them pleasant). Just let us know when =)

    • 4.6 Lovebug

OMG, this sounds more interesting than 98% of the dramas currently airing right now!

    • 4.7 Korazy Lady

Aww Leaf, we are always happy to hear about your love life (especially those of us who are so far removed from that time of life!) Could to see you back on the OT. Who knows, you may get so popular you won’t have time to keep in touch!

    • 4.8 Enz

Leaf! Revel in it.. You never know when the next drought will come. Drink it all up!!! Speaking as a thirsty ahjumma

    • 4.9 pogo

Hey Leaf! I went through the exact same thing – ok, a less interesting version- once upon a time (nineteen years of invisibility and then a sudden rash of boys telling me they were into me, only mine all used the past tense and their teasing was meaner), so I feel you, even if real-life drama is not all fun. And it’s not weird at all to not want a relationship at 19 when you’re not actually into any of these dudes, if that’s the case then a lot of people are weird, haha.

    • 4.10 cv

      Hi Leaf! ^^

My goodness, your life is soo interesting—I’m jealous! lol j/k

You are still so young, enjoy life to the fullest and have lots of fun. If you aren’t ready for a bf, don’t worry, when it happens, it’ll happen. Hang out with all the boys… never know—lots of potentials. hehe ^^

Good luck! —-> with your harem. ;)

    • 4.11 Belle3005

Haiiii Leaf, no it’s totally normal not to want to be in a relationship when you’re 19. It simply shows that you think through carefully before jumping into one,and that deserves a pat in the back. I mean, look at me,I’ve been around for 20 years and I’ve never been in a relationship at all(cause I’ve also been invisible to guys and current still am heh) and I feel pretty fine about it.

  5. JoAnne

    Good Morning My Wondrous Beans!

This is an especially good week, isn’t it? I don’t know…maybe it’s because yesterday and today I finally don’t feel like dying. But there’s also the possibility of meeting Our Lovely Bean Leaders, and then, too, it was a spectacularly good week for two of my MOST favorite dramas right now:

Queen of Ambition – could that b**** GET ANY WORSE? I guess the answer is always going to be yes. Am I going to cheer like a maniac every single time she gets f****ed with? That answer is DEFINITELY always going to be yes. I don’t know about you but I’m thinking Yunho acquitted himself pretty well here. I shed a couple tears for his poor simple Do Hoon on occasion, and this week I was certainly sad about him. But I thought the scene where he finds out about Do Kyung, thinks back over his life, and spends NOT ONE FREAKING MINUTE being angry about the fact that his whole life is not what he thought it was – that scene was awesome. I was so happy they went that way with him. It was just RIGHT. Do Hoon was a good boy, a good man, a good son. He deserved better than he got, poor guy. Ha Ryu’s crisis of conscience is welcome, and I continue to really want to see what he does between now and that opening/ending scene. It’s true that his revenge has caused unintended deaths – and in that sense, he is exactly the same as Da Hae, who never actually tried to kill someone, just tried to get ahead. (Until recently, that is.) But there is a world of difference between him and her, and so I’m glad the show is putting a lantern on the fact that he’s actually really truly doing wrong, the same way she is. ‘cause I don’t know about YOU, but I kinda didn’t even notice that fact, I was so invested in his revenge. So what does that mean for us, who cheer him on? There’s really no such thing as a nice guy, I guess, and MAN does this show do a better job of bringing that home in very clear ways than, say…Nice Guy and Maru – who I loved loved loved, don’t get me wrong: it’s just that this show is miles better in every way. (Sorry Baby Boy. Noona still wants, and all that. Noona will always want, always always always. You have Noona’s heart, honest. But could you get some of them abs like KSW? Maybe a little bit of that shoulder/bicep action? Hmm? For Noona, baby? Noona will be very happy then.)

and That Winter the Wind Blows. I just can’t. There’s nothing. I’m dying. I’m a little confused by Youngie, but I just want to hug her forever. Her and Oh Soo. Man, does he love her. He’s willing to ruin himself for her. He talks so much about wanting to live that I have to accept that he’s going to die, and I may just hit Sang Doo levels of distress if that happens. So be warned. That OT might be bad.

And then ADD to that the solid start of Nine: Take the smoldering yumminess of Lee Jin Wook, combine with the delightfully snarky personality of the character he plays, add to THAT an interesting plot and refreshingly human secondary characters, et voila! I’m pleased as punch with these first two episodes. Love the boss, love the doctor, love the cameramen, love everyone. Love. Lovelovelovelovelove.

Ad Genius – haven’t seen it yet this week, but excited to watch tonight. Watched Jin Goo be a serial murderer in a movie called Truck this past weekend. Yeeks, he was good. I was struck by the very subtle difference between Lee Tae Baek excited, and Serial Murder excited. He can turn it on a dime, that’s for sure.

IRISII – My esteemed friend The Doctor has been saying it’s really sucking now, but I watched Episode 9 this morning, and – yeah, if I want to watch it with a critical eye it’s a re-heated plot with implausible plot twists/spy machinations, but I’m still enjoying it. I still feel really sad that Lee Beom Soo is a bad guy but he’s so much fun to watch I guess it’s ok. I want Blonde Rey to just SHUT UP already. I want to pin him down and shave off his eyebrows. Do you think that would make it hard for him to stand up straight? I mean, they’re practically a counterbalance, they’re so big.

I watched the 1st episode and a half of Lee Soon Shin. I think it’s got real potential. Loving, of course, Jo Jeong Suk’s half asshole/half noob. He’s just a spectacularly good actor. IU is adorable and you just want to hug her and promise life’s going to get better. Yoo In A is a pain in the ass, really spot on big sister. Lee Mi Sook is drop dead gorgeous and I’m intrigued about her part in this. Is IU her daughter? There’s something. We’ll see.

Not even pretending to watch Incarnation of Money or Level 7 anymore. I’ll get back to Money at some point (I only saw one ep) but I’m only going to watch the last episode of JooWon’s First Misstep But Everyone Agrees He Still Can Do No Wrong. I think I stopped at 10. Thank God for screen caps of his adorable face because I was regretting not seeing him mugging with his cuteness and his kissability. Seo Won is a fool. Just saying. You don’t get that all up in your grill and not kiss it ‘til it CHAPS, girlfriend. Til it CHAPS.

GU FAMILY GET HERE NOW. And Ha Ji Won is gonna be a Charlie’s Angel in sageuk garb! YES! When a Man Loves His Destiny in Eden or whatever GF called it – just counting the abs…err…days until it gets here. Love me some bath linens, yes I do.

What else. I watched movies while I was sick, it was easier. 100 Days with Mr. Arrogant. Really not very well done, but not the worst thing I ever saw and Ha Ji Won as a teen was adorable. I did like the ending a lot. Awwwww. Seducing Mr. Perfect. LOVED Uhm Jung Hwa in this, and felt quite warm toward Mr. Henney. His stiffness kinda worked here. And he was cute with how he managed to convey his utter confusion about her. Plus, he rocks a towel at about the skill level of SSH. The Beast and the Beauty: this will be on the fairly short list of Movies I Will Watch Way More than Once. Some of that because it’s my absolute favorite fairy tale and I love any version of any story ever told of it, but also for actual actors. What a little sweetheart of a movie, honestly. A real treat.

Ok babies. This was long. I’m sorry. I guess I made up for last week.

    • 5.1 Carole McDonnell

ah gee, I have to catch up on Queen of Ambition. So hard getting into a story with a beginning that doesn’t bode well.

I didn’t realize I had seen a Daniel Henney story. Beauty and the beast? Yeah, I think i saw that.

    • 5.2 Sabah

” Watched Jin Goo be a serial murderer in a movie called Truck this past weekend. Yeeks, he was good. I was struck by the very subtle difference between Lee Tae Baek excited, and Serial Murder excited. He can turn it on a dime, that’s for sure.”

I’m enjoying Ad Genius too and it is the first time I’ve paid attention to Jin Goo. Thanks for sharing because I’m going to check this movie out now.

    • 5.3 Korazy Lady

Laughing at your Nice Guy QoA talk. You echo my sentiments exactly. I do feel it’s kind of going off into crazyland tho. I mean, come on! She stole, she killed, there are witnesses (at least to the stealing) – and she’s still on the loose causing destruction? Possibly another show that should have ended at 16 eps.

    • 5.4 pogo

Hey JoAnne! You are braver than I am for sticking with L7, I couldn’t even make myself go through it despite my love of Joo-won and Kim Min-seo (aka Sun-mi here, Chosun-i of Sungkyunkwan Scandal, the sweet ‘older’ girl in Bad Guy – even though the actress is actually a year younger than Kim Jae-wook, whose girlfriend she was playing – and the king’s wife in Moon/Sun – SUCH different roles, it’s crazy)

      • 5.4.1 sunshower

I actually like Kim Min-seo ever since SKKS – love her Chosun. Terribly sad when I read in the recaps about Sun Mi.

Another actress that I like but not much activity, or no lead role is Chae Jung-an (Coffee Prince).

    • 5.5 TS

      Ah, you are busy! :-)

I know what you mean!! So far I have seen JIS in a few things and he DIED IN EACH ONE!! He does superb death scene, but still, give this guy (and us) a break. Personally, I would love to see him (even if once) to drive off into the sunset with the last shot being a half smile seen in the rear view mirror.

      • 5.6.1 Waiting

Oh…and I am STILL bitter about the ending in Bali…!!

    • 5.7 sunshower

JoAnne, how many hours of sleep do you get? Hee that’s a long list of dramas you are watching! You go girl :)

      • 5.7.1 JoAnne

I think 5 or 6? I watch a little at night when I am at home – it’s just me and the dog now with daughter grown and out of the house and during the week I generally don’t have plans. I watch a little in the morning while I eat breakfast, and sometimes I watch with my lunch. I do some major catching up on the weekends around errands and house work and hanging out with friends! There’s very little US TV that I watch now, too.

    • 5.8 Belle3005

QoA is just full of makjang-ness. Oh dear, not even my love for Kwon Sang Woo can make me watch it.

    • 5.9 Owl

Rey is just so Evil and oogly. I hate his English, too.

    • 5.10 owl

JoAnne, I just watched ep 10 of IRIS 2. It was reminiscent of IRIS 1 (the tramping through the deep snowbanks to escape scene). Pretty much everything bad that could happen did happen in the episode – and now how can I sleep because I can’t unwatch what I just watched?!

      Rey is satan.

  6. Enz

Was wondering what happened to OT! Happy OT everyone! Watching 2d1n right now – the episode with the Olympians and laughing crazily. I’ve been missing quite a few episodes and am glad o got to catch this one.

Not really enthralled with any current drama right now. Probably gonna drop TWTWB too.

Waiting for best of lee soon shin for Jo Jung seok. Prob just going to watch as it shows on tv over the weekend as it will be on kbs world.

Now that my wish for sung joon to be in a drama is fulfilled, can I have that other wish, ie jung il woo in a drama granted? Please please :)

    • 6.1 FishcalledWanda

      Hi Enz! Happy Friday!
I’m with you there on the Jung Il Woo thing! He must pick a new drama sooon! As in yesterday, hehe.
Is the sun still shining in your place of the world? Here it’s snowing like crazy right now, crazy right? It’s March, what is the snow doing here?

      • 6.1.1 Enz

Hi Wanda! Ya, daily weather report would read something like cloudy with occasional rain (usu in the late evening) and temperatures ranging from 25-34 degrees celcius.

I much rather the hot than the cold I have to say. Golly when will the weather get better for you guys? You watching anything at the moment?

        • 6.1.1.1 FishcalledWanda

I hope it does soon! We had some nice weather (with sun!) a week ago, but then it started snowing (really hard) and now it’s freezing again!

I’m also watching 1n2d, but I’m a bit behind. I’m very busy with studying at uni, so that basically takes all my time. I do try to squeeze some episodes from FBND in (still haven’t finished it, shame on me) and the occasional 1n2d. But the airing dramas are not really for me either.
Are you looking forward to any drama? I’m really excited for Gu Family Book!

          • 6.1.1.1.1 Enz

Studying should always come first. That’s a student’s job! :) . I wonder how and whether I could have coped if there were kdramas when I was in uni.

I am going to watch gu family book only to see sung joon. Hopefully the story will keep me there. Will check out lee soon shin too and am keen on checking out queen of ambition since the melo queen, ie Korazy loves it. But I don’t know when I will get around to it. It’s too tiring to keep watching. Too many hours on the computer!

All the best always with the studies ya.

      • 6.1.2 Carole McDonnell

Jung Il Woo! Oh my heavens!!! You guys are making my heart flutter. Aaargh, if i were younger, I’d commit to really learning Korean and rush off to Korea to stalk the guy. Well, him, AND Lee min ho AND Ji Hyun Woo AND Kim Hyun Joong. He definitely needs to pick a new drama.

        • 6.1.2.1 enz

carole, you know that il woo (wah first name basis alreadY he he) and i have met and shook hands and even took pics together before right? i remember you commented on the pics. we even shared a one sided gazing moment. no need to gues who gazed at who :) .

          • 6.1.2.1.1 Carole McDonnell

oh woman, you’re making me start my day with envy! Hey, who knows? Maybe he also gazed at you. But being famous and all, these guys learn not to gaze so transparently.

I’m still hoping I’ll meet some of my k-pop and k-drama faves one of these days. As long as they don’t mind an elderly overweight black lady drooling all over them.

      • 6.1.3 Belle3005

Oh yes it’s shining all right. We have summer all year long ahahahaha. It’s okay but sometimes I kinda wish that we have four seasons so that I can experience what it’s like during spring, autumn and winter. Where are you from FishcalledWanda? :D

Aaah, call me jealous! But it’s rather nice indeed to have seasons, I think it would become a bit boring if it’s the same always. It makes the spring extra enjoyable after a long winter.
I’m from Holland, which has a pretty mild climate (not too hot, not too cold), but right now we have an extremely long (and cold) winter, so I’m done with the cold right now. Bring on the sun!

          • 6.1.3.1.1 Belle3005

How cold is it over there? Isn’t it spring yet? It feels the same all year round over here for me sobs. You know from where I am from people actually purposely embark on trips overseas to cold countries just to get a taste of winter HEH. I’ve experienced winter a couple of times. The weather can super drying for the skin but I really love seeing snow. I still don’t know how it feels like during spring and autumn but I bet that it’s gonna be really pretty! I’m from Malaysia and it’s super hot over here so I pretty much stay indoors with aircon on full blast most of the time. What a stark contrast with the weather over your side,eh? You’d do anything to get the heat while I’d do anything to get away from the heat. Well you know what they say,we always crave for things that we can’t have. HEH.

    • 6.2 Russe12

Definitely also wanting Jung Il-woo to pick a new drama! I think someone mentioned this in the last OT or so…and why has it not happened yet?! Haha and I was also excited at the news of Sung Joon being in Gu Family Book. I had a mild interest in it, but now I’m preparing myself for hardcore Second Lead Syndrome.

      • 6.2.1 Enz

Russe, that was me last week and the week before last too. I asked for sung joon and got it, so imma keep saying jung il woo till it happens!! Haah

        • 6.2.1.1 Russe12

Sounds like a plan to me!

    • 6.3 Pillowhead

:) Sung Joon and LSG. Even if Suzy ruins it, it could still be my favorite drama ever. haha.

    • 6.4 latteholic

      Enz! Selamat malam :)

I was on the floor laughing as well when I watched that episode with the Olympians! :D

And yes, I’m not into any currently running dramas as well, sticking until the bitter end of L7 just for Joo Won and just started NINE, but I’m not hooked on anything just yet. I watch more variety shows than dramas these days.

And Jung Il-woo is running his own buns business in NYC, no? That’s why we haven’t seen him in a while… :D But yeah, I want to see him in a drama this year as well…

      • 6.4.1 Enz

I could not, even for joo won, my first klove, continue with L7 cos I couldn’t understand the story :) .

It sounds like I did the right thing to stop earlier than later.

Anyway, selamat malam to you too and harap hari minggu penuh dengan keseronokan!

    • 6.5 Korazy Lady

I’m with you on TWTWB. But my sister is so invested in it that I feel I miss try to make it past episode 3. Altho why, I wonder?

      • 6.5.1 Enz

I just finished episode 8 and it really doesn’t resonate with me. Nothing is convincing to me; not the storyline, not the way they talk or the content of their talk and I hate it when they hold the oxygen mask the wrong way around!! Can’t they get that small detail right?! :p

        • 6.5.1.1 Pillowhead

          lol

      • 6.5.2 Belle3005

I don’t know if it’s me being weird but I kinda stopped connecting with the characters from episode 8 onwards. It left me feeling cold. I’m still watching it because I’m still curious about Soo’s outcome. He’s not a very good conman now isn’t he? His cover’s blown here and there I kinda wondered how did he even managed to pull off the scam with Jinsung in the first episode lol.
I know that everyone’s been all about how this drama is awesome and all. Some were even moved to tears.
Drama’s got amazing cinematography and the actors are doing a pretty decent job but nope,I didn’t not even shed a single tear through 11 episodes.(I wonder if there’s something wrong with me,I feel so cold-blooded. :O)
It is indeed the best out of the current batch for the Wed-Thurs slot though. And there’s always Jo In Sung to look at(although he does get a little OTT at times but that’s okay cause he makes even a guy in suspenders look hot).
Well it IS a melodrama after all,and there’s still 5 more episodes to go so we’ll see if my tears will eventually fall then. If they’re killing off any one of the character and leaving the other to be alone I’d probably be pretty pissed off(although I have a strong feeling that they might embark on this route given the strong sense of foreboding in Soo’s narration of certain scenes). The way I see,is that they either let they both live,or let them both die.

    • 6.6 MEalways

      Yes, thank you!
Enz, I’m glad you also love 2D1N the Olympians Special, I watched two times and got a good laugh… Especially Byung-Chull vs Su Geun and the sport day. Such a hilarious yet warm-heart episode.

I watch Ad Genius, and enjoy watching it. It may not the best, but it still quite decent. Candy to the eye (I forgot who mentioned it first, here in dramabeans, but she got it right!), the older version of Jae-Jong.

I also watch Iris2 but really scared, because the plot seems just a new-repeat-almost-too-alike with the previous one. The one that helps me going is Beom Soo. Well… sequel rarely better than the first one, cross my finger it isn’t the case.

And That Winter the Wind blows, for the sake of SHG and the cinematic. It is beautiful. I rather not care about the story, because I really hate melo.

I miss my Great Seer, Ghost and The Chaser.
I wish there will be good drama with strong casts, even without idol.

      Have a great weekend, beaners.

    • 6.7 Aryast

OI Enz! I was looking for you, turns out you posted faster than me.

I haven’t kept up with TWTWB due to the busy-ness that is a student’s life. But from what I’ve read, the Drama Gods are currently losing bets against the Movie Gods. LOL. Just a lousy season.

I’m actually waiting for Season 2 of TEN Special Affairs Team.

Yes yes yes! Jung Il Woo please.

      • 6.7.1 Enz

Thanks for dropping by and saying hi :) . Was supposed to leave a hi at yours but kept missing it! :p. Well, for me, a current drought is always a good time to check out past dramas.. The to be watched list.

Am so new to kdramas that there is always an old one I think I should check out. I am completely out of the k music loop though. You really seem to know your music. I remember you posting on OSTs and today, it’s all the hip hoppy stuff!! Salute you!

  7. Julia

Can anyone suggests some lakhorns? I have only seen one ‘Game Rai Game Ruk’.

    • 7.1 Dorotka

I watched only few… so I’m definitely no expert.
But one of them was Prisoner of Love (Jam Leuy Ruk)… a guilty pleasure… ;–)

    • 7.2 SH

What types do you like? I’ve seen mostly old school ones.

-Kularb Neua Mek with Aum and Noon fighting for the same guy. A lot of bitch slapping going around.

-Wanida (My favorite) – there are two versions – the newer version is with Tik (2010), the older version (1991) is the one I’ve seen and I LOVED it (no subs for this version). Asianwiki has the synopsis for this one. This one is a period piece, set during Thai colonial period I think.

-Anything by Anne Thongprasom should be a must watch. She’s a really good Thai actress. I like this one by her “Sood Sanae Ha” (A recipe for love)

This website has decent bits and pieces on lakorns
      http://iheartlakorns.com/

Have fun watching lakorns; they are certainly for the acquired taste ;)

      • 7.2.1 Julia

I like romance & comedy & scifi & action. I don’t like excessive violence, melo revenge, & evil in-laws. I want a happy ending. I have a weakness for computer geeks, flower boys, musicians, first love, men in suits, and outdoors.

        • 7.2.1.1 Pillowhead

hi julia, we’ve been calling you up top 1.4 for QSS. lol.
I like scifi, action, horror (but not religious horror or too much gore more like zombie stuff) revenge, anti heros, violence, melo… just about anything if it’s done well. But funny thing, I mostly can’t stand American RomComs. please nothing with any of the Jennifers. Love Korean RomComs though. AND love your list of weaknesses. mmmen in suits. :

        • 7.2.1.2 Enz

I stop at I have a weakness. Hehe

    • 7.3 cv

You can check out this channel in on youtube. She’s got some good ones.

      http://www.youtube.com/user/Chtite0Aya

Otherwise try this channel, mainly Anne Thongprasom’s lakorns.

Just saying help since this is the first time in months that I’ve been “early” enough to OT. I haven’t had a chance to watch anything since Alice ended. Not even sure what I want to watch. I’m a rom-com girl but nothing is catching my interest. Any suggestions?

    • 8.1 MariD

Sigh* as much as as I love Rom-com there’s not that many that are good. Lets see Daljas Spring is sort of a work place rom com. I keep recommending Office girls ( Taiwan drama) it’s just silly and it knows it.
-flowerboy Ramen shop: cute, goofy, and full of cute boys.
-can Hana Kimi be consider a rom com? Cause I never laugh as much as I did during this one.
If you want to watch movies watch
Cyriano dating agency, very cute rom com.

  9. DayDreamer

I came to type in some of my own lengthy drama rants and raves but then saw there was plenty of that above me so I’ll cut to being concise, lol.

(By the way, can someone tell me how to italicize and bold words in here? It would be much appreciated).

    Currently watching:

Incarnation of Money: last week was filled with awesomeness so I’m fervently praying that it stays that way this week and thereafter.

That Winter, The Wind Blows: awesome show but for some reason, I remain detached and feeling cold. Still, I watch this with love. Have yet to watch Thursday’s episode so feelings might change.

Nine: First time-traveling drama I’m watching…hate the genre but am willing to give this one a try. So far, things look good but I don’t see the smoldering hotness of the hero like everyone else seems to be seeing. Instead, he kinda reminds me of the actor playing Oh Soo.

1N2D: So I just about died laughing at the Olympics episodes, especially the part when Miran touches the other athlete’s (forgot how to spell her name) boobs and had that awesome oops face on. I just loved the guests..they were so good-natured, fun, funny, and lively. Miran’s super cute and the fencer too.

Well, that’s all…..hope everyone is having a good Friday. :)

    • 9.1 Carole McDonnell

yes,– the DB recap of Incarnation started me on the return trip to IOM. Am trusting it to be mega-wonderful in the revenge department.

      • 9.1.1 DayDreamer

Seriously! I actually couldn’t wait for the recap and watched it beforehand and loved myself for doing so, lol. Let’s see if both of us can stick to IOM through thick and thin. I also want this show to be badass with the revenge. :D

        • 9.1.1.1 Carole McDonnell

          Yes, let’s try.

A fried told me the Korean word for revenge and I’ve totally forgotten it. Who would think i would because revenge stories are my favorite genre. I do wish the writers had gone about it a different way in getting our hero up to speed but at least now they are finished with all that. The first episode was so full of everyone working from their emotions and evil schemes based on emotions and the worst in human nature. Then everyone got all restrained in their evil and SeKwang even got all righteous and all on the non-emotional, rational, propriety, almost spiritual way of life. I was like…dang!!!! I want to see the meanness and nastiness. Can we not merge human nature and have goodness and evil, moral restraint and passion? And I am so looking forward to this!

    • 9.2 sunshower

Hello :) I have the same feelings towards TWTWB as you. I think it’s great, and I seem to be in the mood for it, but it doesn’t captivate me like I want it to.

I am excited about Nine. Can’t say I love it, but I will continue watching. Maybe it will be interesting when Sun Woo figures out the time travelling, and has a purpose for it. I just don’t understand how the time-travelling fit in with the revenge, dieing etc.

I am still wondering if I should jump into the pool of Incarnation of Money. Do you recommend? Seems like mix review over here on OT.

      • 9.2.1 DayDreamer

I also don’t see how the time-travelling works with the things you mentioned but I take that in a good way because it means there is interest to see how things play out.

Okay, so Incarnation of Money is a mixed bag at this point. Have you read the recaps yet? Maybe you should if you want to see if it’s worth your time. I had been watching from day one and I’ll tell you that the first three episodes were very good but then the drama seemed to go off tangent with multiple plot holes and shenanigans that I could care less about. Sometimes, in between, it went back on track, made sense, and was interesting but overall, not so great. It actually made me want to quit the series.

Yet, like a clingy wife with a cheating husband, I stood by its side and gave last week’s episodes (11 and 12) a try and it went back to being awesome again. You could say my husband (the drama) redeemed itself for once. So my suggestion? Watch the first three episodes, read the recaps until the 10th episode, and then start watching again. Or you could just watch it all. Ultimately, the choice is yours. If you’re a Ji Hwan fan (like me), then you might be able to stomach it all. :D

        • 9.2.1.1 sunshower

haha great advice :) i shall do that! I like Ji Hwan, even though he doesn’t have many projects recently (I blocked LTM out of my conscious mind).

  10. 10 ricky trh

    Greetings all!
    How are you today?

Today is my father’s birthday. He is 52.
I’ve been asking my mother if dad is starting to show signs of experiencing a mid-life crisis. Heh.

Among other news, most of the dramas airing now don’t interest me. I wonder if it’s a sign telling me to take a break from drama-watching and to focus on my studies instead.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    • 10.1 Leaf

Leaf will do a rare thing and actually give good advice for once… FOCUS ON YOUR STUDIES!!!!

Haha but hope everything is going well for you Oppa <3

      • 10.1.1 ricky trh

        Leaf, thank you!

I seemed to have missed a lot of things, judging by your post above.

    • 10.2 kopytko

      Hi Ricky!
Many Beanust complain that they are bored with current dramas. Just a lousy batch, I guess.
About your studies – I hope you succeed in learning – my painful experience tells me, that the best dramas air when I am busiest. I don’t know whether Murphy’s laws cover dramas too, but that seems likely to me.

      Have a nice weekend!

      • 10.2.1 ricky trh

Murphy’s law! Now I have something specific to blame for my condition.

      • 10.2.2 Enz

Not bored. Just not very invested :)

        • 10.2.2.1 kopytko

          Well, I am bored ….

    • 10.3 shel

I think I had my midlife crisis at 34…that’s when I bought my totally-impractical red sportscar.

It was over at 35, it was too expensive to keep up, lol.

Hubby’s 1st wife thinks he had his when he divorced her. Even though he didn’t marry a younger model, he married one even older, lol. But, it’s almost 18 years now…not bad for a mid-life crisis…

Happy birthday to the awesome Dad who raised our Ricky-oppa!

      • 10.3.1 ricky trh

I wonder if my dad would buy a sportscar. I can take it once he’s bored with it. Lol

        • 10.3.1.1 Enz

Forr your quarter life crisis ? :)

    • 10.4 JoAnne

RICKY. I cannot continue to call you Oppa if you insist on reminding me that your father is two years older than I am and that I am OLDER than your mother.

      • 10.4.1 shel

Yeah, well I’m older than his mother AND his father.

And, I still call him oppa, because he likes it. :0)

        • 10.4.1.1 JoAnne

It’s true. We are compelled by the Power of the FluffyCute

            LOL true that! ^^

cute Ricky oppa! (pinch those cheeks) ;)

        • 10.4.1.2 Ann

I turn 52 later this year also. I draw the line at boys 26 and younger since I gave birth to a 1987 and a 1992. I just want to pat Joo Won on the head and feed him fried chicken. 30 is now starting to make me feel guilty, though, because I have been married 30 years this year. 32 and up is ok, though, yeah? still lots of hot guys.

          • 10.4.1.2.1 Pillowhead

haha. true…are there a lot? I should focus on those… I can only think of Kim Ji Hoon, Won Bin, Eric Mun, Handtowel… who else? oh in the Kpop world there’s Talbo. I just discovered him, but he’s actually Canandian.

          • 10.4.1.2.2 Pillowhead

wait! what am i saying?!! i can’t give up on my 20 year olds. :D

With a pout and wiggle. ;-)

      • 10.4.2 ricky trh

I still imagine both of you as giddy teen girls. I think I mentioned this before.

        • 10.4.2.1 shel

Well, the giddy part is probably still true, lol.

        • 10.4.2.2 JoAnne

Well you certainly can’t tell the difference by the way I act here.

          • 10.4.2.2.1 ricky trh

            Because you’re fun!

          • 10.4.2.2.2 JoAnne

And this is why I love my Oppa

          • 10.4.2.2.3 Pillowhead

            yes u r fun :D

    • 10.5 Enz

Omg Ricky ah.. Your papa so young, which can only mean you are …. No OPPA!!! Have you been fooling everyone here?! Jahatnya!!

      • 10.5.1 shel

No fooling everybody, lol. And he is oppa to quite a few.

        • 10.5.1.1 Korazy Lady

Yikes, I’m feeling too old to be even on here. Maybe that is why I’ve been staying away as of late. Or it could be that only one drama is holding my interest. Ok. Well maybe two, but I could forget about AHYI and probably not miss it much.

          • 10.5.1.1.1 Pillowhead

            ditto

          • 10.5.1.1.2 Belle3005

Everyone’s young in dramaland though . Fangirls(and fanboys) of dramas never seem to age whenever they spaz over a good drama. In fact,I’ve seen moms squealing and spazzing over hot male actors and let me tell me,their enthusiasm and passion even put the young ones to shame. I love how dramas makes people unite regardless of age, gender and status heheheh we are all bound by the same love for good dramas! :D

        • 10.5.1.2 ricky trh

We can probably count the few with only one hand.

      • 10.5.2 ricky trh

I’m the fake oppa around here. Hehe

    • 10.6 Belle3005

Doing fineee :D Happy Birthday Ricky’s dad! Your dad’s still young my parents are turning 56 this year heh. :)
I really think that it’s a good thing that you’re taking a break from drama-watching cause the current batch of dramas is still pretty meh so you’re not already missing out much. Am currently in a drama slump lately. >.<
Lucky for me,I can always turn to good variety shows to keep me afloat.
I've been watching Daddy Where Are You Going (It's a bit like 2D1N ala kids style) and I have to say,it's pretty good. Singing reality show wise I've been more inclined towards Voice Korea 2 over Kpop Star 2. I find that the former is less commercialized and focuses more on actual vocal talent. The judge panel is decently intriguing too. We have Kangta,Gil(from Leessang),Shin Seung Hoon & Baek Ji Young :D
Yeap,I guess that's pretty much it.

      • 10.6.1 ricky trh

        Hi!

I agree about the current snows being meh. Maybe I should watch a Taiwanese drama or Thai lakorn instead.

Variety shows? Hmm, does American Idol count?

        • 10.6.1.1 Belle3005

Perhaps we’ll have better shows lined up for us next month? I am curious about the Gu Family Book so I might probably give it a try. I cannot imagine Lee Seunggi with his mane-of-glory ahahah so weird oh.
I used to love Taiwanese dramas but in recent years the quality of shows has sorta declined(or maybe I’m just being too picky for my own good.)
The last T-drama that I’ve watched was In Time With You though,I loved the storyline and how the drama felt like a breath of fresh air amidst the makjangness of others.
I’ve never watched any Thai lakorns though somehow it never got through to me but I might consider checking it out if the k-dramaland continues to run dry.
Oh yes,I think it’s sort of a variety show. How’s the current season of AI like? I haven’t watched AI in years. My favourite AI contestant of all time has to be Kelly Clarkson.(Oh and I love Chris Daughtry too!)

    • 10.7 Korazy Lady

Hi Ricky! Good to see you on here! Happy Birthday to your father! But didn’t you tell me your Grandmother is 56? Is your Mom a lot younger than your Dad?

      Have fun celebrating!

      • 10.7.1 ricky trh

Yes, there is quite an agebetween my parents. Also, my maternal grandma married very very young.

    • 10.8 Pillowhead

THIS is my midlife crises. for real. I’m fangirling 20 year olds and dressing like GD. This week I bought a pair of pewter doc martins. LOVE them. wore them today :D

      • 10.8.1 TS

Me too. I never thought I’d spend my, ahem, mature 30s, wondering where BigBang and Block B were 15 years ago. Or why I became a lawyer instead of a music video producer…

        • 10.8.1.1 Pillowhead

haha. where are BigBang and Block B right now anyway. hahaha. Hey TS! those are my two favorite Kpop Bands too!!

          • 10.8.1.1.1 Pillowhead

and my new fav… Epic High.

      • 10.8.2 Enz

I am rather age inappropriate in dressing still. I just never grew up. It’s not a midlife crisis. That got settled by buying a Vespa :)

        • 10.8.2.1 Pillowhead

yay. so we can shop for age inappropriate clothes in Korea. Let’s stay away from QSS’s Palace Dept. Store. those clothes are gross. especially ChatChat. hahahaa

          • 10.8.2.1.1 Enz

QSS really had the WORST fashion. Poor Eric having to wear those atrocious stuff. Now, you’ve made me want to get a pair of doc martens but i didn’t find them comfy! Mine was tangerine.. A long time ago now though

I have a black one in heels I bought on a sale in nz. Ad then found it uncomfortable too :(

  11. 11 kopytko

    Hi Everybody!
    How are you doing?
Nine brought me some fresh air – I hope it won’t turn all melo-makjangy and spoil me the pure joy that watching Lee Jin Wook is. Although the word “pure” might not be the most suitable one ;)

TWTWB seems to be turning into something I don’t really enjoy, so this week I just read one recap on DB and watched the next episode. That’s a bad sign. I wonder whether it will change next week.

I wanted to see the final season of House MD on local TV, but I can’t seem to enjoy it without my flatmates with whom I lived during the Uni time. A strange feeling. Of all things, after 5 years, it’s a series that reminds me of them whenever I see House.

Oh yes, the upcoming Birth Secret cacks me up. Totally. Actually I like Sung Yuri, but I don’t think I will dare look at that drama. LOL

    Have a lovely weekend, Everyone!

  12. 12 Lara

Hey all. I made this last week for javabeans and Dramabeans, the night of the Dramafever fiasco. I wanted to support her with some Level 7 Civil Servant art, but that show is pretty bad, so I made this instead.

I tried to submit it using the contact form, but I think maybe that didn’t work because there aren’t any views on them. So I’m putting them here!

The lines, curves are finely done but the thing that really stood out for me was the excellent use of dark contrasts and white highlights. I also loved the little details like the droplets from his leaf and her bare feet. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

      • 12.1.1 Lara

Thanks! I can’t afford Photoshop/Illustrator/Corel Painter so I use a program called PaintTool Sai for most of my drawings. I could have made this particular drawing in probably any program with layers, masks, and pressure sensitivity for tablets (Photoshop, GIMP, etc).

PaintTool Sai has some really nice blending properties with its brushes, which I didn’t really make use of here. It also has some problems that I haven’t found a way around (for example, you can’t transform a selection on multiple layers at once). Overall, I like it very much and I think it’s a great digital drawing/painting program.

        • 12.1.1.1 Sabah

I think few people can afford PS etc. Still this software is excellent. A very polished feel and the layering is quite fine/sharp as well as the blending. I can see that ease of use issue being annoying.

I think the best digital programs are ones that allow you to create what’s in your head. However you need an image in your head to begin with. Nothing can replace creativity and that’s my favourite thing about this image. Excellently done. I hope you continue to share your works, I know I would love to see them.

Wow they are beautiful! So good Lara! :)

I love MGIAG – first show I follow almost live and watch without english subs. haha

      • 12.2.1 Lara

I loved MGIAG too. It aired during the summer and I remember sneaking away from dinner to a bedroom to watch it while we were away on vacation, haha.

I haven’t kept up with any dramas at all due to the swarm of reports and assignments piling up. I guess I will just marathon them once the crazy workload season is over.

I did however managed to squeeze in a few k-music in my spare time. At first I checked out BAP’s One Shot and really loved the mv and BANGYONGGUK(unf unf unf) so I started digging for one year’s worth of BAP stuff(this includes countless mini albums, variety shows and interviews) since that’s how long they’ve been around. I just like their mellow personality although they do have a long way to go in terms of music. Potential is there.

And then I think I remember someone mentioning here about Mental Breaker by Block B so I decided to listen to it. The next thing I know it’s my must listen to song every morning to get myself pumped up. Prior to this I’ve always enjoyed their works like Nanrina, Nilili Mambo and Burn Out but never explored beyond that. I started getting curious after Mental Breaker and went digging for their music. They’re a really talented bunch and I absolutely enjoy listening to their music. Their dynamic with each other is just so heartwarming and they’re really unpretentious and don’t fit in the mold of a typical idol group.

And ZICO… I was very surprised that he can actually RAP. And I don’t mean idol-manufactured rap. He lives and breathes hiphop culture and rap and music. Safe to say I downloaded his mixtapes and have been listening to it everyday without fail. I really like the recent one Zico On The Block 1.5 it’s dark, raw and really close and personal. His personality is so magnetic plus he’s an entertaining performer to watch onstage. Heck even his Engrish sounds sexy. He’s so attractive, it hurts! I think I’m in love. LOL

Thanks to him though I discovered K-HipHop and it has so much to offer. There’s just so many talented rappers and producers in the underground scene and they make genuinely good music. For once I sincerely wished I understood the language just to understand what they’re rapping about because from what I can tell from the lyric translations, they’re more poetic than most of their American/Western counterpart(the mainstream ones anyway). I’d like to suggest a Jazz-Rap mixtape I discovered titled 여심공략ㅋ(yeo shim kong ryak keu) which roughly translates as “playfully winning a woman’s heart”. It’s by Jay Vito and Hoodi Boi – perfect for a classy Saturday morning with coffee. If anyone’s interested, I can give you the download link. It’s free! :)

Ok. Rambling’s over. Happy Friday my fellow Beaners! Enjoy your weekend and stay safe

    • 13.1 JoAnne

Aryast! That was me pimping out Mental Breaker! I still listen to it every day! And yep, I went digging through their music to find other stuff too. Really liking these boys and hoping their legal troubles end well and that they continue together for a while.

I’m not all that into really hardcore hiphop but I do like Verbal Jint – not all that hard, LOL – and pretty much anyone he collaborates with – he’s got a bunch of stuff on YT so check him out and you’ll find others to follow too.

      • 13.1.1 Aryast

        @JoAnne!!!

Block B is seriously underrated. It’s a shame that things are the way they are for them because they’re a joy to listen to and clearly haven’t reached their fullest potential. They’re like a breath of fresh air in Kpop. I can’t find anyone around me who likes Block B though. Everyone’s all BigBang! 2NE1! Girl’s Generation(I got a Boy is OVERRATED)! So at least I have someone here to fawn over them with.

Verbal Jint intro’d for Zico’s first mixtape didn’t he? :) I like Tablo’s Fevers End. One of my fav albums in 2011. YG totally ruined Epik High for me though. I hate their sound now. Yeah, I actually subscribed to hiphopplaya on YT. Discovering a few already.

Seriously you have to give that JazzRap album I just mentioned a go. It ain’t hardcore. :D

        • 13.1.1.1 JoAnne

Send me the link, I’m always interested in hearing new stuff. My 19-yr-old is always sending me music from bands she likes or friends who play, and HER friends are always surprised at how much of it I enjoy.

Of course, her taste runs toward O’Brother, Alt-J, The Civil Wars, classic rock so it’s not hard..- not a ton of rap/hip hop…but she adores Mac Miller, if you know who he is. Not sure where you are or if you listen to U.S. music.

          • 13.1.1.1.1 Aryast

Ok you’re one cool mum. Your daughter’s around my age btw, I’m 2 years older. Ummmaaaa!!!! LOL

I’m from Malaysia and I do listen to American Music but I have no clue about all those bands you mentioned. My taste in music vary widely. When it comes to Rock, I listen to the classic lineups like The Who, The Doors, Queen, Manic Street Preachers, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell and more recent ones like Radiohead, Muse, System of A Down Jeff Buckley, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and even J-rock band L’arc~En~Ciel. I stay away from metal but I’m an avid fan of symphonic metal band Nightwish.

As for Indie music, my favs would be Imogen Heap, The XX, Stars, Phoenix and The Pierces. My fav classical composer is Mozart and fav Jazz musician is John Coltrane with Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald being my fav Jazz crooners. There are many more though. I like hiphop for their music producing skills but their themes just puts me off. Artists like NAS are an exception though. I also enjoy listening to pop-opera acts like Il Divo and Sarah Brightman.

I don’t mind pop music either but I listen to them in passing and never took any too seriously.

            Oooh here’s the download link:
            http://www.mediafire.com/?gh8yptwwp1ldyzp

          • 13.1.1.1.2 JoAnne

@Aryast, Tori likes/liked Imogen Heap and The XX too. I’ll have to look at some of the mix cds she’s made me and give you some names to look into. She definitely doesn’t do metal, but she does listen to classical music because she took piano for years. She gives my beloved KPop the cold shoulder, though she will allow that GD and Nell are listen-able. She can’t get past the stage get ups, sadly. Of course she’s in Hipster West these days, so she likes her musicians tattooed, dirty, and dressed in really expensive rags. No pretty boys need apply. She herself, however, often goes for a 50′s pin up girl look.

          • 13.1.1.1.3 Aryast

            @JoAnne

Ok cool. Like you I’m always up for new music-y stuff too. The key to enjoying KPop is to not take it seriously for me. I take my music seriously but sometimes you gotta let go and be whimsical(?), that’s where pop genre comes in.

I personally like tattoos and body piercing and find men with any of those unique and highly appealing. I’m thinking of getting a few tats myself but I dunno how would my conservative and ultra religious Asian parents would feel about that. They freaked out when they saw my snake bite. I had to remove it since the university I’m studying in has strict rules about facial piercings and dress code. So my creative expression is currently limited to dyeing my hair bright red(pink, green, blue, rainbow colored hair aren’t allowed) and wearing colored contact lenses. Boring.

          • 13.1.1.1.4 JoAnne

oh goodness, @aryast – Tori is tattoo’d, often dyed although she is natural auburn at the moment, and has multiple piercings. And she often sports a buzz-cut, or a version of Miley’s current hairdo. I was not pleased/am not pleased about the location of some of her peircings and the sheer number of her tattoos – I feel that she will regret some of them as she outgrows a phase – but this is something she does to feel beautiful, and she IS beautiful, even with all the modifications. So I (mostly) just keep my mouth shut. It will be her issue to remove them if she reaches that point, and it’s not like she wants to work at a job that would object to decorated people.

          • 13.1.1.1.5 Aryast

            @JoAnne

I think Tori and I would get along pretty well… Haha. I usually sport a pixie (now I have this pixie crossed with pageboy haircut). I’ve always wanted to get body tattoos and piercings but I constantly have to consider my present situation and future in careers that would frown upon such a presentation of oneself. I’m torned between my artistic side and my responsible adult side. I AM getting a tattoo soon though, somewhere easily shown and hidden when needs be.

My parents have gotten more lenient when it comes to my increased show of “creative expression”. I guess it also helps to live away from them. My dad actually called me an alien for wearing colored contact lense and having my black hair dyed bright red. In an endearing manner of course. I guess they feel like you when they saw my snake bite.

        • 13.1.1.2 pogo

oh god, 2NE1 stans are so obnoxious (I frequent ontd, and every kpop post I wander into is full of people who seem to think they’re the second coming of you-know-who). I mean, they make catchy music and two out of four are decent singers, but god does it get tiring hearing about them all the time.

          • 13.1.1.2.1 Aryast

I’m a fan of 2NE1′s music and their confidence but I don’t think that they’re THAT good. They’ve the shit autotuned out of them and they don’t really sound that good live. Bom sounds great in the studio but on stage or live it sounds like she’s eating her words(I know she loves to eat but really?). Just terrible diction. The only well rounded one is Minzy. She can dance and sing. CL can rap decently for a Kpop rapper but she ain’t no rapper.

All I’m trying to say is, I’m no longer a YG stan. I used to be a fairly hardcore one but I’ve taken off my YG-jjang tinted glasses and look and analyze YG in an unbiased manner and I honestly think that a they’re overhyped. Their good, no doubt, but they are ever so slightly overrated. And yes, BigBang too.

          • 13.1.1.2.2 TS

I like 2NE1, but I get tired of hearing their music like I don’t with others such as, oh, Block B.

          • 13.1.1.2.3 Aryast

            @TS

I actually listen to 2NE1 when I workout. Gets me pumped up. Other than that I don’t listen to them at all.

        • 13.1.1.3 TS

I frigging love Block B and want to have their babies. After Woobie My Wuv, that is.

          • 13.1.1.3.1 Pillowhead

block b ARE my babies. that means i’ll b grandma to yours. haha

            @TS

Like a Block B harem and you’re their Queen B? (see what I did there?)

I love Woobie. But I can’t decide between him and LSH… Hahaha.

Zico’s rice cake lips… Noms unf.

        • 13.1.1.4 Pillowhead

hi Aryast and JoAnne. was scrolling down and zero’ed in on your ZICO. omo. I love blk b and agree they are so underrated. Zico is so talented. rapping, writting, i think he’s also producing now. he also studied art in Japn. when he was younger. I love watching the interviews and game shows with them (or BigBang) . Zico is a spaz. He is a way different leader than GD. Zico is still young and has a lot to learn there but he is just plain awesome.

          • 13.1.1.4.1 Aryast

Hi Pillowhead. Yay! So much Block B/Zico love here. I couldn’t find anyone around me who even notice Block B. I guess birds of a feather flock together in Dramabeans aye?

Yea, Zico is producing/ produced D-Unit’s recent album. Did you watch his Supporting Message for D-Unit on DM D-Unit YT channel? Wae so cuttteee?? His aegyo.. My feelsss… But if I were to meet him and interact with him on a more normal level, I wouldn’t wanna date him. He’s very friend material to me, not the type I would actually date.

He’s a talented fine arts artist. He drew Defconn and Hyung Don in style of caricatures on the Block B Weekly Idol ep.

In a way, GD takes himself way too seriously. He sorta has that ego?

          • 13.1.1.4.2 Pillowhead

            Hey Aryast,
YAY back. :D It’s so late. U won’t c this but i don’t know if i could date Zico either. I’m thinking Tablo for dating, but he’s married with a baby. haha, like i could really date him. who would you date?

          • 13.1.1.4.3 Aryast

            @Pillowhead

I’m not sure whether you will be reading this but in any case I’ll just reply you again next thread.

Honestly, I see myself dating someone like Bang Yongguk. The studious quiet type but has a completely different onstage persona. He seems like the type I could just talk to all day or not talk at all. It helps that he’s not good looking in terms of first impression but he has a unique type of attractiveness. Manly but sweet? LOL

      • 13.1.2 Aryast

About their lawsuit, I hope they win and even get to keep the name. I think their best bet is to move to either Brand New Music or TS Ent.

Could you believe that all these while, costumes and promotional activities were forked outta P.O’s own pockets???

        • 13.1.2.1 TS

Ooh, I have to look up Zico & watch him on variety shows, Omoni. ;-)

          @Aryast, clever re Queen B. :-)

Yes, I so want Block B to win their lawsuit. I can’t believe that manager took money from their parents too!

  14. 14 Carole McDonnell

    Hi all:

Awaiting the end of winter. Finished proofing (I think.) Working on my little shounem.

    Am presently watching:

Virus — Way overwrought, way too many coincidences. Yet for all the suspense-building, it’s not too suspenseful. I can’t even remember the end of the last episode. That said, I’m still watching it. The hint of major Andromeda Strain conspiracies is apparently pulling me onward.

Nine — I am totally smitten with this drama. I love a time travel story that is done well. So far, they have had only one coincidence and that I accepted because it wasn’t too important. Am waiting to see how the magic incense works. Tracking the rules. Loving hero and heroine. Wondering just how he’s gonna mess up his present life and yet somehow redeem/restore good to his family. Gotta say that this is one frail fragile family we are dealing with. Mom and older bro go “schizophrenic” because of one bad thing in the past. True, tragedies can affect whole families but wow! And it doesn’t help that now hero has brain tumor. Unless it’s been created by some of the medical messiness of Choi, I am thinking, “DANG! This family has major health issues.” But I’m already reeled in by time travel and by great production and script skillz so I’m in for the long haul.

Shotenin — Aaargh, at first this heroine annoyed the crap outta me because she was so irresponsible and flightly. (Okay, I’m old now so i have no patience with flakes and I gave up on the series.) But one of the OT-ers recommended it and I gave it another chance. Am loving it. I do like the Japanese bravery when it comes to creating unlikable characters, and I like the way they generally stick with their committment to tell the story without showing us why a character became so annoying. Korean dramas often make even an unlikable character likable by showing his background etc. Was really liking Takei and am watching this show to see heroine’s life, which is like a very bad accident, go totally out of control.

Loving Mahoro — Gotta admit there are times Gyoten gets on my nerves. I have a real issue with folks who take other folks stuff and who take advantage of another person. But I do find him likable in many ways.

Loving Otome-san. Mom-in-law is just a really great character. Not sure how dark this story will turn out to be.

Watching Tonbi. — Sweet. Watching an oldie Kira kira hikaru — okay so far. Not super great. Waiting for the last episodes of Monsters and Nobunaga No Chef. Might watch Nakuna. Watching Biblia once in a while but feel no great urge to watch it unless someone tells me what the last book discussed was and if I like that particular classic book.

Watching Amnesia — anime. Good. Catching up. Trying to catch up on Conspiracy in the Court. Might try to watch, “you’re the best Lee Soon Sam,” “Childless Comfort,” and “Substitute Princess.”

Not sure why I’m still watching Sugarless. All the cute guys probably.

    Have a great weekend, all.

    • 14.1 owl

Sugarless. Ditto. How many ways can you say, “Fight’s on”and keep losing? Bad? Still, I’m watching it, too. haha.

On the other hand, xxxHolic is way good. Scary. Dark. Love the 4 (visible) characters in the ghost stories scene.

What about Ken, Carole? Where is he?

      • 14.1.1 JoAnne

does Sugarless have subs now, Owl? I’ve been wanting to see that.

        • 14.1.1.1 owl

          Yes, on dramacrazy.net

      • 14.1.2 Carole McDonnell

I keep looking for Ken. My wonderful sweet center of male peace and intelligence in the testosterone filled world.

      • 14.1.3 sunshower

I looked into xxxHolic since it came up a few times on last week’s OT. Love the concept and synopsis, but I am scared of scary :P

Was hoping that it won’t be too scary, like I have to cover-my-eyes-scary. Alas, my hopes are dashed.

I used to love ghost stories. I guess I guess my heart grew into chicken size as I got older.

      • 14.1.4 TS

“How many ways can you say, “Fight’s on”and keep losing?”

That sounds really funny. I’m going to check it out. :-)

    • 14.2 pogo

Hey Carole! I’ve just dipped a toe back into jdrama-land with xxxHolic, and even at under half an hour per episode it packs quite a punch. And you make me want to try Otome-san, for some reason I really love jdramas involving mother-in-laws, lol.

      • 14.2.1 Carole McDonnell

I started Otome-san. Am really liking Mom-in-law. The story’s got a desperate housewives feel and I like seeing all the neighborhood doings, especially snoopy grandma next door. Daughter-in-law is mom’s worst fear and I’m thinking there won’t be any “oh we all misunderstood her” stuff going on.

Mother-in-law stories are so good, aren’t they? I was liking 100 year inheritance/noodle shop but it made me lose all patience. Not sure if it’s the pacing or the weird redundancy or the persevereance of certain evil folks or the heroine’s wimpy attempts at strength.

(Oh gee, that reminds me…wasn’t there recently another drama out there about a poor woman who managed to make it to a rich neighborhood and where the Queen Bee of the neighborhood was giving her a hard time? Uhmmm forgot the title but now i’m wondering where the heck the subs are.)

I’ve got to commit to watching xxx-holic. One of my bad flaws is my inability to watch another version of something I’ve already seen. Okay, okay, I can watch any and all adaptations of fairy tales and folklore…being a fairytale nut. But..takes me a lot to watch a remake of a regular story. So if i’ve seen the anime or the manga or the live drama first….or if i’ve seen the worst production or the best…well, ah me..problem. But I’ll try to break that bad habit with xxx-holic. Will see if one can teach an old 53 year old dog new tricks. Thanks will try to commit to it and catch up. So much catching up to do. xxx-holic, Queen of Ambition.

        • 14.2.1.1 pogo

Now I feel like I need to find this Mean Queen Bee drama, lol – sounds like it’s exactly my cup of tea, for crack value if nothing else.

xxxHolic is great for short attention spans – very episodic (at least at this point in the story) and only 26 minutes per episode, though I think it might actually be better to wait until it’s out and all subbed, because the wait is driving me nuts.

          • 14.2.1.1.1 Carole McDonnell

Otome-san has a nice MIL. But yeah, one hundred years….wow! Just wow!!!!! This mother-in-law is the star, definitely! I love it when she’s on the screen. Pity she’s stuck in such a wussy drama.

Yeah, sometimes that’s best. Although marathoning is so not good for the butt. Still, it’s winter and there isn’t much to do outside…so marathoning doesn’t wreck my life so much.

Off to catch up to speed on Amnesia, the anime I’m presently marathoning.

  15. 15 JeliesS

    Happy OT everyone.

‘Incarnation of Money’ was always good, kind of meh, but last weekend launched it into full drama cracktasticness, with what looks like the start (finally!!) of the revenge plot line. I hope Cha-don gives them everything I’m imagining in my mind and then some. I wouldn’t mind if the love line goes nowhere. Jae-in’s obsession with Cha-don is frankly unhealthy and I’d rather she just sought help.

‘IRIS2′ is as bad as I expected, but I’ve been enjoying it ironically since I started a few weeks ago.

That’s more than I can say for Level seven, which had to drop since I couldn’t stand seeing Joo-won in the middle of so much suckage. At least I still have 1n2d…

    As for the new dramas:
‘Nine’ had a solid start, although the love line again (if anything) will be what bothers me about the show. What is it with clinically obsessed drama heroines lately? The hero isn’t that great to begin with. He started dating her knowing full well [I don't want to spoil anything]. What a selfish jerk. But he’s had a tough life and they didn’t drag that point out, so I’m with him.

I’ve seen the first episode of ‘The Virus’ and that also looks good in a morbid sort of way. I’ll be keeping track of how many people die until we get into the triple digits. I suspect that will be by episode 4.

All in all, I’m hopeful about the current drama cycle, but that’s coming from someone who is open to SSH’s ‘When A Man Loves’ not being a total suckfest.

    Happy Friday :)

    • 15.1 Rachel

Iris 2 is as bad as I expected..

Hah. I just had to say there’s one more person in this forum (or dramaworld) who agrees with you. It’s like eating a stew with lots of ingredients and spices, yet still feels like something’s missing.

  16. 16 shel

    Long time no post.

In Kdrama world: Watching QoA, pretty much just go read JoAnn’s post about that and ditto it. Just started TWTWB, and I like it so far, but I’m only up to ep 3. Ditched L7CS for obvious reasons. Put IOM on hold, tho I love KJH in it; I have limited viewing time and others were better. Watched the 1st couple of eps of Ad Genius and kind of like that, too, but don’t know how to fit it in.

In real world: Hubby is working, temporarily at least. Yay, we’ve been unemployed since July. So, some money is better than no money. Mom fell and broke her hip yesterday. Trying to decide if I went home to help if I”d actually be allowed to help her, or if I’d just end up babysitting Baby Sisters kids (who mom usually babysits). Don’t wanna make a 12 hour drive to be a babysitter. Good news is that the prognosis is good, they are putting a pin in today and the recovery should be not too horrible.

That about sums it up. Happy weekend, everybody!

Glad to hear about the new job. It’s tough out here too. A lot of lay offs. Good to hear to that the prognosis is good. hip and back problems are so tricky. I sprained my ankle last week and now my back is flaring up. One side, one day the other the next. Take Care :D

    Hey everyone!!

I finally, FINALLY finished Can We Get Married, and it was awesome, even if I wanted to drown both of the younger boys’ mothers and the cheating rat husband by the end (and no, the fact that he began his relationship with his wife by cheating on Wife no. 1 with her is NOT justification to do it again, especially after she’s spent seven years raising your kid and generally being perfect at everything wifely).

BUUUUUT, secondary OTPs were hot and awesome (I like primary OTP, but I LOVE dark-and-messed-up Ki-joong and Dong-bi for whom I wasn’t even sure it would work out in the end, and also adorable motorbiking aunt and her dork husband – I covet her skin and her red lipstick).

And now I think I have a Kim Young-kwang problem to join my Lee Jun-ki problem, my Kim Jae-wook problem, my Jang Geun-seuk problem (yes I know they were both in Love Rain BUT) and my Kim Woo-bin problem. Because UNF. That’s another one who needs to be a lead in something, and soon – he’s on fire when he actually gets to have a chance with a girl (so please, something on cable maybe? Because those bedroom eyes and those lips would be wasted on the dead fish kissing of most kdramas).

In other news, xxxHolic! I finally took the plunge and watched both episodes last Sunday, and I am IN AWE of how perfect it is, and how it comes so close to the manga visually – I didn’t think it was possible, but they have the tone and the look locked down, this could be legitimately great. And best of all, they have Yuuko right so far – she’s almost exactly as if she walked off the page of the manga!

(not going to talk much about real life because I’ve had a beast of a week at work, and having twenty things to keep going at once is bound to get anyone screamed at *sigh*)

    • 17.1 JoAnne

Pogo, come sit beside me on the Kim Young Kwang couch and hug a pillow with his torso on it while we scroll through Tumblr and look at every picture of him ever anywhere.

      • 17.1.1 Mystisith

Hey! JoAnne, move aside, I like him too! He was perfect for that role in CWGM?
        http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GuoOdLeSxLo/USt7sjTKexI/AAAAAAAAEx4/9Q6HYYPCVOo/s1600/Kim+Young+Kwang+-+Han+Tae+Sung.jpg
        Nom, nom, nom…

        • 17.1.1.1 JoAnne

he’s scrumptious – even as the ass in White Christmas, I couldn’t help but sit up straight and drool at the screen whenever he was around in that one, and I stuck with VeggieBoys mostly for him. Ok and Wookie. Dammit, Giraffe too. But mostly KYK and Wookie.

oh and the mute guy! dammit, why did that show have to suck? They had such FERTILE GROUND.

          • 17.1.1.1.1 pogo

We should just take up permanent residence on squishy furniture and watch KYK kissing girls – ok, only one girl so far, but WHOA that is better than many actors get after a decade of drama kissing!

I loved him in White Christmas (loved the entire cast in fact, and SQUEE @the mini-WC reunion in CWGM too!), but I love that he finally got a role that made full and excellent use of how swoon-worthy he is.

          • 17.1.1.1.2 Rashell

I need to watch White Christmas! Does it really have every single HOT newbie in kdrama land or does it just seem like it does?

          • 17.1.1.1.3 sunshower

I googled him. In some pictures, he looks a tad like Lee Seung Gi. No?

Maybe I will add White Christmas and Can We Get Married to my list.

          • 17.1.1.1.4 JoAnne

@Rashell, no it really does. It even has Oh Jung Ho, the bad boy we ended up loving in School 2013.

    • 17.2 owl

Yuuko is the best, love her. She is so straight forward.

      • 17.2.1 pogo

I had a monster girl-crush on manga-Yuuko, I would actually have been unable to watch this drama if they had got her wrong but it’s such a relief, and Anne looks the part too.

(also, those kimonos, and her hair, I just die a little inside every time she’s on)

    • 17.3 Carole McDonnell

if xxxHolic is close to the manga, i might watch it. When i started watching it, it reminded me of an anime i had seen. Then I realized….ahhhhh. So might watch it again.

Lee Jun-ki sovled his problem right? Pretty passionate in those scenes, ne?

      • 17.3.1 pogo

Carole – it is as close to the manga as it can get while being a live-action drama, so if that reassures you, go for it! I wasn’t a huge fan of the regular tv anime of either xxxHolic or Tsubasa, but the OVAs they did using Production I.G. (Tsubasa Shunmuki) were pretty close to flawless, artwork-wise.

Lee Jun-ki caused me such major problems with Arang, it wasn’t even funny. I mean, he went from being my fairy prince to being this crazy intense manly MAN and I loved every minute of it.

    • 17.4 Rashell

Dong Bi/Ki Joong were by far the best pairing. LOVED them! So glad they got their HEA!

And yeah, Kim Young-kwang is the hottest thing ever in that drama. He’s such an ass in parts, but those kissing scenes just smoldered.

He actually reminds me of Kim Woo Bin. They should be brothers in a drama together. Get on that drama gods!

      • 17.4.1 pogo

They were my favourite pairing too, KYK is good at playing an ass but I could so understand why she stayed with him for five years despite him being an ass, because LOOK AT HIM!!!

(and that first scene in his flat, UNF)

        • 17.4.1.1 TS

          :-)

I stuck with the show for them and eventually got hooked on motorcycle couple and the divorce case.

    • 17.5 Sabah

Thanks for the heads up on xxxholic! I might wait for it to finish but I’m not so worried about it now.

    • 17.6 Aryast

I found the primary pairing exhaustive. Towards the end I was actually rooting for DB/KJ pairing and had focused more on the divorce storyline more than anything. Somehow I want the divorce to proceed because of cheating ass but I also want him to realize his mistake and for them to make up because of the kid.

FYI I’d called dibs on Kim Young Kwang ever since the first ep of CWGM so hands off :P It seems that there’s a model turned actor who are friends with each other trend going on. Lee SooHyuk, Kim WooBin, Kim YoungKwang, Hong JongHyun, SungJoon, Lee JongSuk, Esom… Which of course good news for us!

      • 17.6.1 pogo

yeah, Sung Joon and Jung So-min have great chemistry and I actually really liked their characters but what they were put through was flat-out exhausting, thank goodness for the presence of other couples to break it up a little.

I might have felt reconciliatory re: cheating ass if he felt sincerely sorry about what he’d done, but he really was the most entitled and unpleasant kind of nightmare husband, even his brief moment of feeling bad for the kid was too little too late and I was glad they stuck with that instead of magically redeeming him.

Also, there’s plenty of KYK to go around, can’t we share ? :( Mainly I just want him to be in another drama and kiss some more girls and quickly. And anything involving a White Christmas cast member has me pumped, I love that they are friends and work together.

        • 17.6.1.1 pogo

oops, no pun intended re: ‘break it up’, ha.

        • 17.6.1.2 Aryast

I never thought you’d ask. Of course we can share! We’re the Dramabean Family after all.

Ugh yes. And I wish LSH would start in another drama/movie fast. I can’t get enough of his ethereal beauty.

      • 17.6.2 Enz

I did find it stressful and frustrating and exhausting but that just means the drama was good and made me feel what the couple was going through and be invested in their story. I loved can we get married. All the storylines.

    • 17.7 TS

Ooh, yes, Xxxholic! I’ve even started reading the manga!

  18. 18 Russe12

Happy Friday everyone! On spring break, attempting to complete my homework assignments after a lovely car crash. I hate winter.

I’m currently watching Queen Inhyun’s Man. It’s so good! I love how unique the characters are; Hee-jin is hilarious and slightly dim without being i-want-to-punch-your-face stupid, whereas Boong-do is perfect. Haha, and that’s not even really exaggerating…also I’m finding Dong-min very endearing even though he’s the most childish jerk ever. But he’s a charismatic childish jerk. I’m really enjoying this drama – I followed the recaps when it first came out and watched some of the first eps but it’s just as amazing this time as well.

I’m not super hooked on anything currently airing. TWTWB is really good and I’m enjoying the recaps, but I don’t wait by my computer every week waiting for the newest episode. Nine is interesting but I don’t really have a full judgment on it since only the first two eps have aired. The Virus is another one that interests me but I’m not begging for more on that either…

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

      Rey is satan

    • 19.2 OMG

Maybe anime will keep me busy as i catch up on episodes of One Piece and Naruto Shippuden!

  20. 20 John

    Friday !

Watching K dramas: TWTWB, Ad Genius, IOM.

My wife is also watching Sweet18.

    J Dramas:

Saikou no Rikon : No subbed Eps this week. I love the “outro” for this show.

Shotenin Michiru no Mi no ue Hanashi : Toda Erika as the “bad girl”. Loving it.

xxxHolic: Haven’t watched ep. 3 yet.

Viki has some Hong Kong movies from the late 50′s – early 60′s featuring Grace Chang. She really brightens up the screen.

    • 20.1 John

      Oh, almost forgot.

J Drama: Nobunaga No Chef. No subbed episode this week.

      • 20.1.1 cv

Hi John! I was so looking forward to finish watching No Chef. Too bad it’s not done subbed yet.

I’m all for Team Ken and Natsu.

          • 20.1.1.1.1 cv

John, you think he’ll leave with Youko? or stay with Natsu? It doesn’t look like Ken will be time traveling back to the future or if he did, it’ll have to be a miracle eh?
Can’t wait to see how this show ends—-I’m thinking an open ending?

          • 20.1.1.1.2 Carole McDonnell

Saw episode 9 just now. I really think i am taking this ending much too much to heart. It’s profoundly bothering me.

I know we got used to the main character pairing and that alone is reason enough to like the two main characters living HEA but dang! The subtext of the drama seems to be: if you are a guy and you lose your memory and forget your life, if you forget your parents, and forget the woman you’re engaged to, then just drop everything in your life for what you know now and for what you know now. It’s the subtext that bothers me. It makes me feel as if it’s nothing more than a male masturbatory fantasy about mid life crisis and tossing the busy world aside to have an adoring woman. Am I taking the subtexts of these stories much too much to heart?

And WTF? Old guy tells him he has to return to the future and he DOESN’T ?????? There better be a new episode that shows Ken the error of his ways. Even if he takes Natus into the future… I could live with that.l

    • 20.2 snow_white

      Sweet 18 is cute :)

      • 20.2.1 John

        snow_white ~

Yeah, we’re at the ep. where she discovers she may be expecting.

    • 20.3 sunshower

Sweet 18 was zippy, fun and cute!

How I watched it was also funny. I was studying abroad and my friends knew I like kdramas. At that time, the online community wasn’t quite as big as now. So he went and picked one at random at the DVD store for my Christmas present!

It’s been so long, maybe it’s time for a re-watch!

      • 20.3.1 KimYoonmi

I like rewatching it. It’s a sweet watch. I think I’ve watched it and rewatched it about 3-4 times? It’s a feel good and zany enough to make me smile.

    • 20.4 owl

I have an irrational sense of entitlement to weekly subs and pace and pace then crash when they don’t appear. Not only that, I go cuckoo loco when new dramas (esp jdramas for some reason) start up with subs for eps 1 and 2, while I am waiting for 5, 6, 7 of ongoing ones (Siakou no Rikon, Share house, and what about finishing up Chef no…). Imma go crazy!

      • 20.4.1 John

        owl ~

Yes, the J dramas can drive you nuts waiting for the subs. I wish Viki or even DF could get the licenses for J dramas.

  21. 21 MariD

Hi everyone!!! Hope everyone is doing great.

The last thing I’m watching and wich has me sooo excited is Incarnation of money!!!!!
Last week episodes ahhhhh!!! Finally we get started!!!

    • 21.1 Korazy Lady

MariD, I think QSS lost a lot of people on that episode but it’s all part of the raw emotion running through that show. I actually liked that they wrote the show realistically with flawed, complex characters and weren’t afraid to do a scene like that. I wasn’t even an Eric fan – not a fan of any of them, really, but it was the writing and whole angst that kept me riveted. But I admit it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. :)

      • 21.1.1 ht

I agree with everything you have said! MariD, I just finished watching QSS for the first time just two days ago and I am planning to rewatch it again, hahaha.tell me about it! After that episode, I tried to continue watching the next episode (which is ep 10) but I just couldn’t. I was thinking of dropping the show but thank god for this wonderful website, the wonderful recapper (Javabeans!), commenters and those beautiful fan made MV uploaded on YouTube, they managed to convince me this drama is actually worth continuing, So I kinda got over ep 9 and since then I’ve never looked back. I’ve never really completed any kdrama (I just watched them for fun… I do cry, get angry but when things get boring I just dropped it, immediately, LOL. Or put them on hold and find another day to watch it, which is almost never.. Sorry, kdramas are not my cup of tea)

But wow, Que Sera Sera is the first korean drama that I finished it within one week. I was so emotionally invested in the two lead characters (Taejoo and Eunsoo).. Argh.. I used up all my feels for this drama…

However, in the end, this drama really isn’t for everyone but haha, as a biased QSS fan, I’m giving you an advice, be bold and carry on! :D

        • 21.1.1.1 Korazy Lady

Woo hoo welcome to the QSS fan club! It seems like one can’t be not passionate about the drama :)

    • 21.2 Enz

That was episode 9! Well, does it help to know that this is a drama about making wrong choices and actually learning from them? I just watched the last episode again and it’s still so emotionally satisfying.

      • 21.2.1 Korazy Lady

Wow, Enz! You have it down episode by episode! Impressive! I’ll wait until summer for a rewarch, I think. I’m thinking of buying it for my newly converted kdrama watching Mom. (OK, well, for me, really. She could borrow it.)

        • 21.2.1.1 Enz

That was one critical episode!! Never to be forgotten!!

    • 21.3 Pillowhead

MariD, did u watch just up to that scene? u need to watch a little more, cause then u c Eun Soo take charge. I can’t say much because i loved those scenes. like Korazy said, it was so raw. The end of that episode had me chewing my computer cord.

      • 21.3.1 Pillowhead

omg the show gets so hot from that point. please don’t stop there!!!

        • 21.3.1.1 MariD

•_____o I stopped once he threw her on the bed. I was extremely upset with him. Ok, I’ll continue on, but they better not pull a he rapes her, but its ok because he loves her in the end crap. God I seem that done twice in telenovelas and hate it!!!!!!
I’ll let you guys know next Friday.

          • 21.3.1.1.1 Pillowhead

wow QSSers. that was a really good intervention. hahahaah. we are like a crisis hotline. :D

    • 21.4 Julia

I am a fan of QSS for all the crazy emotion.

(Look away if you don’t want a spoiler)

At some point while watching QSS I peeked ahead, just a little, enough to conclude that it wasn’t a Happily Ever After kind of story. Somehow, that let me relax and not feel gut wrenched and horrified and fearful. OK, I know this story will end badly, so just watch the characters and enjoy the ride. As someone who watches a lot of Rom/Coms and few Melos, that was my coping mechanism and QSS really drew me in for all its agnst so I’m a fan. When I think back to that point in the story, it was all about standing in the rain, not the momentary lapse in judgement that led him to pounce on her in the bedroom. Eric wasn’t doing it out of rage but just because he bottled up his true feelings for too long. That doesn’t make Eric right, but you who have never let love make you do something impulsive throw the first stone.

      • 21.4.1 Pillowhead

        good one Julia!

  22. 22 sunshower

    Happy Friday everyone!

I finished watching Brilliant Legacy this week. See, plenty of free time means I can dig up some old dramas which has been on my to-watch list, but it also gives me an opportunity to ask what others are recommended?!

The few I have been considering are Damo (the last time I stopped at ep10) and Painter of the Wind.

Some times, I am in this weird mood where I don’t even know which genre of dramas will captivate me. Comedy? Romantic-comedy? Family drama?

But finishing BL means I want to watch something Bae Soo Bin is in. However I cannot bring myself to watch Dong Yi!! WHY? Because he’s the “oppa” again. Man, when will he get the girl?

His other shows are too melo-dramatic for my taste :( so I can’t get my BSB fix?

Even with BL, I felt quite distanced towards the end. Maybe it went on for too long? I just didn’t have the heart for it. Love the scenes with Eun Song and Grandma and I surprised myself with some tears for Seung Mi and her mother on the roof-top. My verdict is that it was satisfying. Totally understandable how it drew in 40%+ rating.

    Current dramas:
TWTWB – *sigh* I want to love it. I am still enjoying the pretty but I some how feel detached. I want to cry, want to feel the characters but nothing flows.

Nine – I enjoyed it, but it doesn’t make me sit upright and pine for it. I can’t even put my finger on what’s wrong.

    Then…

Er that’s it? That’s all the current dramas I am watching? Wow.

See, I’m in a grumpy mood. Hope you guys have better luck watching dramas than me :)

    • 22.1 cynkdf

Hello from a Bae Soo Bin fan – perhaps you should re-consider your decision not to watch Dong Yi? :) I had very little interest in K-drama until I watched Dong Yi and fell for BSB.

“Painter of the Wind” is a must-watch – BSB was such a hot king.

He also appeared in a 30-minute music video movie “Share the Vision” with his boss, Lee Byung Hun – have you seen it? It’s available on Youtube.

I can never get enough of BSB, and so find myself absolutely charmed by a bearded BSB being interviewed on an SBS radio show recently (clips uploaded on Youtube by SBSradio100) He was also one of the guests in “Hwashin” (very rare appearance on a TV variety show) and (admittedly I am biased) shone there, although he wasn’t all that talkative.

      • 22.1.1 Ann

Isn’t BSB starring in a new project? I thought I read that somewhere.

        • 22.1.1.1 cynkdf

Hi Ann – are you referring to the play “Gwanghae” that BSB is starring in (alternating the lead role with Kim Do Hyun)? If so, the play will end its run towards the end of April and after that, hopefully we’ll see BSB in a K-drama.

A wonderful and loyal Korean fan of BSB told him his international fans miss seeing him on the small screen, and BSB said he may consider a TV drama (most likely, not sageuk).

      • 22.1.2 sunshower

        *waves at cynkdf*

wow thank you for your recommendations! I was impress with BSB in 49 days, but it wasn’t addictive – as in I wasn’t a fan, I think it was because of his character, which I don’t get. His acting was good.

It was only after watching BL…

Anyway I will sure go check out that music video movie you mention.

REALLY? Dong Yi? Will I suffer from a broken heart again?? Where does he ever get the girl :(

        • 22.1.2.1 cynkdf

          * waves back *

Yes, you’ll suffer from a broken heart again, as will poor BSB – but he’ll do so, looking both hot and cool.

He did get the girl (or rather the girl got him) in “Let’s Get Married” – I only watched the BSB parts, to be honest :) There are 51 episodes on Youtube, uploaded by MBCClassic.

      Stick with the dramas :D

      • 25.1.1 myweithisway

        LOL

Lately life drama has been more interesting than what’s on screen o_O

        • 25.1.1.1 Leaf

Then that’s ok then :D Good drama is always fun.
Pity most real life drama sucks haha.

    Happy OT Beanies,

    Currently running dramas:
    - Slowly catching up to L7, I stopped at episode 8 weeks ago, because of midterm, but I made a promise that I would finish the show. I don’t really know what’s going on anymore, but seeing Joo Won is always a treat, so I’m taking whatever I can, plus I ffwd-ed A LOT and I will stick with it until the bitter end *sigh*, sometimes I wish I could quit you, Joo Won. Btw, nice illustrations for the recap!
    - Caught the first 2 episodes of NINE, and it reminded me a lot of late 80′s/early 90′s US TV Shows. The opening theme is very A-Team/MacGyver-esque. I found it a bit slow paced, but I think I will tune in again next week, since it looks like the story will pick up then :D

    Old dramas:
    - Rewatched Tamna 2 weeks ago and decided to watch What’s Up and I LOVED it. I haven’t been invested in any currently running dramas, so it was nice to find a show I could be invested in. The ending felt too open though, so I’m hoping that they will have Vol 2, with the same cast and writer/director (I know, it seems unlikely now that the cast has moved on to other projects, but I guess hope dies last? :) )

Also watched k-movie Suicidal Forecast (because of Im Joo-hwan :) ) and I’ve never felt more pedonoona-ish. Guys who can play guitars do all sort of things for me, and the boy who’s in the movie (Jung Sung-ha) is just too awesome. I googled him up and found out that he was born in ’96 *sigh*.. But again…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNTTS28nQU8

    *sigh*

Anyway, I hope everyone’s week is going well.. :)

    • 26.1 JoAnne

Jung Sungha is in that movie? I have to watch. I subscribe to his YT channel and have his CDS – big big fan of his guitar playing. I’ve seen bits and pieces of interviews and he just seems like this mute awkward little boy, so I’d love to see him acting.

      • 26.1.1 latteholic

Yes he is. It’s a minor role, he’s only like 15 minutes or so in that movie. But the moment he plays guitar. I. Just. Can’t. I immediately subcribed to his YT Channel as well. Now I’m listening to his YT videos on my playlist… :)
        I’m definitely a new fan…

    • 26.2 Leaf

Jun Sung Ahn is another great youtuber!!!
He does violin covers and he’s adorable <3

So yeah… worth checking him out ;)

      • 26.2.1 latteholic

        I’m glad I checked him out. He’s awesome! <3 ;)

      • 26.2.2 JoAnne

I LOVE him – he’s so FUNNY. Quite the personality as well as a talented violinist. I’ve been subscribing to him for quite a while. And Daeho, this boy who does covers. Lovely, lovely voice. Check out DaehoTV, on YT.

    • 26.3 Carole McDonnell

googling suicidal forecast. Hadn’t heard of it. Thanks. If you like guys who can play guitar, check out the j-movie, Oresama. I liked it a lot. Short, sweet, very touching in its small little way.

  27. 27 Lovebug

    Hey guys,
I have been on a self inflicted drama hiatus for the last two weeks, as I just needed to take a break and you know get my real life together. That is still a work in progress but I am slowly returning to dramas and trying to do it in a healthy way. (Is that even possible for a drama addict?)

I am not feeling strongly about any of the dramas that I am watching so won’t do my usual longwinded breakdown.

Instead I was wondering what is everyone’s worst drama that you watched from start to finish?

For me I think Lie to me was pretty bad, but the one I most remember wondering why am I still watching this is Invincible Lee Pyung Kang (or Taming the heir). I love Ji Hyun Woo but that drama was a bit of a shit show though it got better towards the end.

    • 27.1 Mystisith

Poor JHW was endlessly tortured in ILPK. Female lead was a witch. Lol.
Worst drama seen entirely? I should have to choose between Fashion King (not) and A Thousand Kisses (neither). I may have skipped a few eps but I needed to see the end. Oh, & let’s not forget Ohlala (the wrong) Couple…

      • 27.1.1 Lovebug

See there is a part of me that wants to watch Fashion King because of the ardor in which everyone bashes on that drama. I kind of feel like I missed out on a moment (although a bad one) of kdrama fandom.

Its the same idea regarding Dr. Jin, I didn’t watch that drama but followed the recaps which were epic and would have hated to miss out on all of that!

    • 27.2 sunshower

haha bad drama? It may be a while ago, ever since I stuck to my mantra of “life is too short for bad dramas”. I just don’t have the time to finish them.

I didn’t finish LTM, Mary Stayed Out All Night,

Hmmm *thinking* ah ha, now I remember, recently for me, it’s Big :( I held on for Goo Young.

To the Beautiful You was also bad, but I was in the mood for light and fluffy so I finished it.

      • 27.2.1 Lovebug

Oh you are right I will add Big to my list too! I shudder even when just thinking of the time wasted on that drama!

    • 27.3 redfox

I havent watched any of the dramas you named for now except Big, but the worst I watched… most likely To the Beatiful you. even worse than big no logic no plot. no start no finish
My Girlfriend is a gumiho was kind of pointless as well

    • 27.4 Korazy Lady

I’d go with Mary Stayed Out All Night, Lie to Me (although how could something so bad have two of my favorite scenes ever?) – the rest I dropped if too bad. I have to say that in retrospect I thought I Miss You was pretty awful, too, but then I only read recaps for the first 5 episodes so I guess that doesn’t count.

    • 27.5 oneclearnight

Lie To Me was appalling. It was a writing disaster. Oddly enough it still didn’t kill my love of YEH. KJH phoned in his performance, I’ve seen so much better acting from him.

I hated A Gentleman’s Dignity but I know loads of people loved it, whoops. I didn’t like Secret Garden either, I guess Kim Eun Sook dramas just don’t work for me.

Oh and also Moon/Sun. Watched it to the end for KSH, really despised it. Again, it was the writing. The plot went round in circles for 10 episodes at least.

This year I decided that I wasn’t going to suffer through dramas I didn’t like anymore, even if I loved the actors in it. I just felt like I had to finish them, y’know?? But it kinda made me really pissed off and I love kdramas, so. I’ve already dropped 5 shows this year alone!

      • 27.5.1 redfox

oh Moon / Sun. utterly pointless but pretty colors at least.

    • 27.6 pogo

I drop dramas like hot potatoes if they suck, but since I do work by that principle, the worst of mine was Heartstrings (like seriously, WE DON’T CARE about the stupid musical, and it’s one of those things better heard about than actually seen – even Park Shin-hye couldn’t cover the fact that it all looked like a high school production done by a supposedly Broadway-trained director).

Also, A Love To Kill started out good, but its second act fizzled (enough with boring bro already) and the ending just made me want to throw rocks.

      • 27.6.1 Mystisith

Talking about musical, The Musical… Poor Daniel Choi. Script which goes crazy halfway and a co-star with the charisma of a wall. :(

        • 27.6.1.1 sunshower

wooo i was going to watch The Musical for Daniel Choi. now it’s off the to-watch list.

    • 27.7 opheliadrowning

“Big” was it for me. On the strength of past Hong sisters shows I kept hoping they’d fix it or pull it out of the funk, and then the ending had me doing a Hulk Smash for wasting my time and bandwidth following through with the whole thing. And I watched most of Oh La La Couple and read the recaps and just “finishing” the show through recaps made me so angry, too. It’s like it just kept getting worse somehow, but I held on to the hope that they might do exactly what they did.

    • 27.8 ht

For me, it’s Zettai Kareshi. It’s been 2 years since I watched the show and to this day, I’m still wondering why did I even bother in the first place. I tried the drama because of Mizushima Hiro and the show is popular (‘so it’s good, right?’ NO. NEVER.). However, after completing the whole series (I didn’t even know what happened to me in between, just remembered I was cursing silently and almost cry at the absurdity after every ep), I really said this to myself. “I can’t believe I sat through hours and hours of this gem.” Lol.

!! I also remember feeling so bad for Ayaka as she had to put Okaeri as the ending theme song. Hahaha. Glad she met Hiro through this drama. God is fair. HAHA, just kidding. Can’t believe there’s a SP too.

      • 27.8.1 Rachel

Um…Zettai Kareshi wasn’t the most perfect drama that people watch with complete absorption, but it was good enough.

    • 27.9 Saturtledaisy

Fashion King wins my ‘most awful drama’ award hands down. don’t understand why i kept hoping it would make sense.
… Close tie with Dream High 2 (though I may or may not have fastforwarded through most of it) …

I would say Big, but I never finished it so meh =/

    • 27.10 Julia

Worst drama watched start to finish?

      What makes a drama worse

… endless weeks of torture from bad writing/acting that you some how endure because some quality of the show has you hooked

or … an ending that hits you upside the head and has you going WTF?

The dramas I get angrier about are ones that have some good qualities but then waste themselves. A truly wretched drama you can drop immediately and forget. But one that has that character or actor or story you want to shine that then disappoints is far harder.

I am ANGRY at Horse Doctor’s writers. I am SCARRED by Dr. Jin to flash back now in every operating scene. I was DISAPPOINTED by Big which I kept holding out hope for.

Oddly, dramas I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE are ones on other people’s hate list: Mary Stayed Out All Night, Lie To Me.

Then there are dramas that I LOVED on first watching but can’t seem to rewatch like Rooftop Prince. It was the whole hateful sister storyline that keeps me from going back to enjoy the laughter and romance. I think I can safely say that evil sister is my most hated character of all my KDrama watching.

    • 27.11 Carole McDonnell

YES!!! Another Ji Hyun Woo fan. I didn’t know he was in this. I might be able to endure poo for Hyun Woo oppa. Thanks.

  28. 28 kakashi

    Hello everybody!
haha, the late OT caused some distress, did it? (see on Twitter …)
Well, I need some help from you guys with this: http://dr-myri-blog.blogspot.ch/2013/03/top-5-unknown-shower-scenes-take-4.html
Only two of 7 unidentified shower scenes have been identified since I posted last night. this will not stand!

    • 28.1 Aigoo

LOL! Well I’m no help….maybe I need a better angle in order to identify them…. ;P

      • 28.1.1 kakashi

well, almost all the scene have been identified now :)
I KNEW the drama-knowing-hive-mind would solve this puzzle! hwaiting!!! ^^

    • 28.2 kopytko

      Thank you for the fun!
I have two ongoing quests while watching dramas: 1. what car do they drive? 2. What fountain pen are they using? THe one that bugs me most is So Ji Sub’s vintage muscle car in MISA. I’ve been trying to identify it for about two years…

      • 28.2.1 kakashi

ahahahaha, that is too funny!!! lately, the thing with the car is rather easy … cause it’s all PPL and either KIA or Infiniti!

        • 28.2.1.1 kopytko

I have also noticed that two actresses always drive the same model, they must have some sponsorship deal too.

But seriously – Moo Hyuk’s car and Anthony’s pen – what are they? I want both!

    • 28.3 Julia

Love Story in Harvard. Now there is a drama that could have benefitted by removing every English speaking actor. Maybe my worst drama choice by following an actor I thought was sexy to see what else he has done.

  29. 29 redfox

Hi, how are you? I am really busy. my workplace is kind of boiling. many people consider leaving. If they leave, I will leave out of solidarity.
I need time to make exhibition pieces (felted tapestries) and take part in a competition and write my story (on page 204 now, werewolf fox an a dog make trouble at this point.

watching only That winter. seriously annoyed at Young. wtf can you quit saying irrational things? and why should Oh Soo even like you, still, when you act like this! get real!

but I read some introductions to japanese movies….

OH YEAH: watched the beginning of When I Kill Myself. oh my freaking goodness????? I am not sure I will continue. suicide button….. bläh

    so how are you doing

Question to ponder today: clothes in dramas. sometimes they “over-act” the actor. noticed it with the Secretary Wang character. her puffed sleeves drew attention from what she was saying. but in general the costumes really play along in That Winter.
have you met dramas where the costumes are enchancing the action and where they distract you?

    • 29.1 Owl

Felted tapestries, I’m intrigued. Do you have a site with pics displaying your art?

      • 29.1.1 redfox

        I have a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/FabulousFelts

        • 29.1.1.1 owl

Such artistic talent! Gorgeous creations! I don’t know much about fabric artistry, but I make stained glass windows and want to do some glass mosaic. Your fabric art mosaics are lovely ~ beautiful colors, patterns and lines.

        • 29.1.1.2 Carole McDonnell

just liked your facebook page. Beautiful work. And sending happy creativity greetings toward your story as well.

          • 29.1.1.2.1 redfox

            thank you!

    • 29.2 pogo

They got the clothes in Answer Me 1997 spot-on, it’s close enough to present-day costume that it could have been easy to get wrong, but the fact that they got it right just made the drama 100xbetter.

I really liked the costumes in Nice Guy too, they worked well for the characters on a thematic and symbolic level (all those scenes with Maru in dark clothes with Eun-ki in white) even if Park Shi-yeon was styled kind of ajumma-ish (which again makes sense if we see her as a young woman trying to appear older and more authoritative). No crazy OTT chaebol couture, and I liked that the best-dressed person in there was Secretary Hyun.

    • 29.3 kopytko

I have some issues with the costumes.
One is that dirt-poor heroines have always like dozens coats/jackets/anoraks, and really lots of clothes to wear. Is that why they are dirt poor? All cash spent on clothes (and the newest smartphone to match). Living in a cold country I know two-three coats or jacktes are enough…
Generally I don’t like clothes that “stylish” girls are supposed to wear. It means pink mini skirts, killer heels, frills, leopard-print furs and such. I was nicely surprised when Yoo Inna in LSS wore a knee-long skirt. See – it IS possible, and she looked fabulous (as ever one can say). My point is: one can flaunt whatever assets they have, but maybe not 24/7? Not at work?
Sometimes I feel that characters in kdramas spend fortunes to look cheap. There are few characters I can think of who invested their money well (like the snarky noona from ATK).
When it comes to male characters I can say only one thing: Ansony…

BTW Great things you can make of wool. Hmmm I’ve got some sweaters that got bitten by moths…

      • 29.3.1 redfox

oh, yeah, “Ansony”, definitely! best use of an accessory award.

    • 29.4 Korazy Lady

As a rapid QSS lover, that was my one pet peeve with the drama. Eric’s clothes were borderline hideous. Men in 3/4 length-sleeve jackets? Over long sleeve shirts? I must have slept through the 5 days that that was a popular style for men! It really was a distraction.

I felt that way about Best Love, too. The lead’s outfits were horrible, but the socks and mary janes really took the cake.

      • 29.4.1 Korazy Lady

        *rabid*!

    • 29.5 enz

i thought the clothes in coffee prince really set a good tone for the drama. choi han kyul and han yu ju’s wardrobe in particular really made them look the part of rich and relaxed people. loved their houses too – han kyul, yu ju’s and most of all han sung’s house.

      • 29.5.1 pogo

Oh yeah, that was one drama that got all its clothes right – the characters actually dressed like real-life people, and even Eun-chan’s ‘boy’ clothes looked, well, normal.

  30. 30 Swurbel

    Hello Beanies,

The flu season is finally over, hopefully. I got away luckily with a common cold. (is this good english? …) But some friends and acquaintances had the flu and were really terribly ill. That was so scary.
I hope you’re all doing well (again).

Watching Horse Doctor – still. I do not know why. Is it kind of boring. Sympthoms of Addiction … probably.

And watching the thai-lakorn ‘Seua Sang Fah2: Payak Payong’. No subs avaiblable but it does not matter. It is a mysterious action lakorn: lots of handsome well-built (… you know – abs and stuff …) boys and men in tight jeans and (torn) t-shirts are fighting (against the evil supernatural, against each other, against Mafia …). The fighting technique is probably Muay Thai, but I’m not sure. The plot? No idea … But does not matter. It’s nice to watch ….

And I watching xxxHolic. So beautiful. So scary. And Yukoo … a queen.

And finally something completely different :-) :
    TADA:::::
Starting next month, I will learn the Korean language. I just enrolled in a course. I’m very, very excited.

So, everybody – have a nice weekend.

    • 30.1 zgznoona

      Good luck with your classes
btw, I’m loving xxxHolic as well. Episode 3 was so scary, and the building I’m staying now is a rundown hotel from the 60s. I sleep alone on the 4th floor and I’ve never ventured to the higher floors is all darkness up there. So watching alone proves challenging. But I don’t think I’ll stop.

      • 30.1.1 Swurbel

        Hello zgznoona! Thank you.
xxxHolic is not “the ring”. But I think, I would not watch xxxHolic late at night alone in an old dark building. the music and that stuff is quite scary. I think you are very brave.
        So maybe until next week.

        • 30.1.1.1 zgznoona

          hopefully :)

    • 30.2 Julia

Swurbel: “No subs avaiblable but it does not matter.”

Sounds like your Thai lakhorn is providing you with something to entertain yourself with even without a script.

I am watching Hara-chan with no subs, but there is no one I am lusting over in that drama.

Reminds me of an auction of the script for Conan the Barbarian. Me: “They had a script for that, how many lines did Arnold actually say in that movie?”

  31. 31 Lovebug

Oh also, so instead of watching dramas, I have been on a WGM kick (Khuntoria and Brave couple right now) in addition to somewhat obsessing over kpop.

In particular I have listened and watched MV for Hello by Nu’est an unseemly amount of times. (like seriously that song is good). For some reason I didn’t fully realize those boys are literally children (they are like 17-19) which I shouldn’t even know in the first place. Sigh

  32. 32 opheliadrowning

Hey, can we get a mini thread of discussion going on here for Ad Genius Lee Tae Baek since there is only the one recap?

Some points for discussion for the last few episodes, so ya know, SPOILERS AHOY:

    1) Ji-Yoon’s father and his attempt to force an engagement between Ji-Yoon and Addie Kang: is this like, a thing? By that i mean, is it common enough that a parent could force their child into an engagement or attempt it, that this shouldn’t be as wtf as I think it is coming from an American perspective? Also, I am afraid that Ji-Yoon might agree to the engagement out of noble idiocy to save Giant. Thoughts?

    2) Go Ah Ri: It seems like she’s getting sort of written out, as she is not doing much aside from some evil machinations behind the scenes. She was interesting to me initially, especially in the scene early on when she tries to go visit her mother, but then finds her mom drinking and flirting with a man who is not her father. What are your thoughts on her and where her character is or should be going?

    3) Random note: I love that there’s a Bengalese character on this show, just to show diversity. It kind of makes the world seem a little more global.

    4) I love the tertiary characters in this show (or love to hate them): From Chairman Ma (who I love love) to PD Shin (who I love to hate).

    5) The romance: I like the sort of natural and quiet development of the romance between Lee Tae Baek and Ji-Yoon. They’re first friends, and they trust each other and for the most part, are pretty straight forward. It’s kind of refreshing to see. They don’t bicker, which is also a nice change of pace, and still, on their own, they seem to be people who have themselves mostly figured out (in that way that they are still young and growing, but don’t have huge gaps in fully realizing themselves).

    • 32.1 JoAnne

      Hi Ophelia!

Re engagement – I haven’t seen this week’s episodes so something might have changed but I didn’t think he was pushing engagement as much as he was dangling the carrot of his daughter – who he knows the guy likes – and saying ‘get her back in the company, and I’ll help you’

I like that guy too! Watch the movie Haunters, if you don’t mind a bit of scary – Go Soo’s two buddies are not native Korean’s either.

I think Go Ah Ri is going to help them, in the end. She’s been giving them grudgingly respectful side-eye for a while now.

      • 32.1.1 opheliadrowning

That would be cool if Go Ah Ri ended up helping them in the end instead of just being a villain. I honestly find her more interesting and complex than Addie Kang, who has a comparable second lead gets more screen time than she does. I was quite glad that they didn’t drag on her relationship with Tae Baek, but they did have a relationship before and it would be interesting to see that affecting their professional relationship in the reveals about some of the things they both liked about one another once, long ago.

    • 32.2 TS

Yunno, I’m wondering about Go Ah Ri too. I wonder what to do with her? I want her in love and happy and with a place, in that she seems to be someone unsettled, not really good at advertising, but really good at scheming, not truly nice, but also with a good side and a conscience where she makes sure to greet TaeBaek’s granny properly.

And in all of this, contradictorily hard and soft. She’s like the complicated noona in Nice Guy but fewer personalities.

Anyway, I’m actually rooting for her to be happy and okay at the end of it all. The rest of them, meh, and I fast-forward them a lot as a result.

    • 32.3 Saturtledaisy

Oh Ad Genius deserves more love~ it might not be perfect but I definitely enjoy it more than.. let’s say, L7CS.

About the engagement – We’re just waiting for the nobly idiocy to happen here. But part of me hopes it won’t, because Ji Yoon has always been very defiant, and I don’t expect her to suddenly go to obeying her father. I can see her leave Giant, though.

As for Go Ah Ri, she’s pretty badass, keeping her cool most of the time. She’s a scheming schemer, but I can’t really bring myself to hate her. I hope she can find happiness.

My favourite part of this drama is the interactions between Ji Yoon and Tae Baek. It all just seems very natural and not forced at all. It’s nice to see two people falling in love because they get along really well, not because they fight all the time.

      • 32.3.1 opheliadrowning

I am with you with the naturalness of the interactions between Ji Yoon and Tae Baek. They did have their sort of meet-cute/bicker to start, but it became a friendship really quickly. I liked that when she was hanging out around him a lot, he called her out on it and asked her point blank if she liked him, instead of just waiting and wondering. And I like his patience too as she is figuring things out. Their level of friendship, I think, makes that possible. The relationship between Chairman Ma’s son, the other girl who works at Giant, and Tae Baek’s sister provide a nice contrast to the adult relationship that is Tae Baek and Ji-Yoon. It’s really nice to see a romance like that play out on screen that is both relatively mature and still engaging.

    • 32.4 Sean

Thanks for putting my thoughts into words..hehehehe..cannot wait to find these out!

  33. 33 Aigoo

    Hi everyone!

It’s been a crazy week for me! Moving back to Toronto, apartment hunting and coming down with the flu!

I guess it must be a blessing then that I’m not excited about any of the kdramas out there now other than Ad Genius….must be the universe’s way of telling me to focus on RL! LOL!

Anyway, since there are no good kdramas I was hoping to maybe pick up a tdrama…it’s been a while since I watched one of those! Anyone have any good recommendations on tdramas that have aired recently??

Something with a hot lead would be totally appreciated! :P

    • 33.1 Mystisith

      Hello Aigoo! :)
If we talk Tw dramas, Substitute Princess aka King Flower is currently airing and VERY GOOD. 8 eps eng subbed by now.

  34. 34 Licia

Hey everyone, I haven’t been on the OT in a while but after reading the Dramabeans meet up post it made me realize just how wonderful this community is. I really think even if Dramabeans and Girlfriday go to a city that is far from where you live, us beanies in that area should still meet up and send in pictures. I live in the Bay Area about 45 minutes from San Francisco so I know this could be so much fun.

Besides that just passed my Chinese midterm.
Nǐ hǎo, wǒ de míngzì shì ài lì xīyǎ.
    Hello, My name is Alicia.

So here are my honorable mentions. You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin. I actually liked the first 2 episodes because I could relate. Sometimes we all feel a little bit like IU’s character, that people just forget you or don’t notice you. Like the scene where her family forgot her birthday, or I love the scene when there’s a guy on the street passing flyers out to what seems like everyone and he just bypasses her and its her breaking point of not being noticed so she purposely walks back to him and takes one for herself but then only to find it’s a flyer for a men’s sauna she just didn’t notice he wasn’t handing them to women LOL.
Sometimes this happens to me where, because you have insecurity you try to take authority of the situation or “put your foot down” and realize your just acting in insecurity and that your trying to it cover up when no one was even thinking or talking about it.

IU (though she only a few long TV and film credits), Park Shin Hye, with Flower Boy Next Door (I was literally just like Dok MIi still breaking out of my shell now) and Jung Ryu Won, are actress that I think aren’t just portraying a character but in their performances, part of who they are shine through the character. They feel like girls you can relate to. Because they are able to convey the many sides that women have, they can be sweet, sassy, clumsy ,have a bit of temper, be shy and vulnerable and smart all at the same time.

Anyway I knew Jo Jung Suk who is Shin Joon Ho would play the character well. I have observed that if an actor’s character has a straight laced personality the best way to play it is either show the great lengths they go to maintain the “perfect box” that they make for their selves especially when they interact with someone who is the exact opposite or lastly, how hard they try to be cool when they really are not. Which is exactly what Jo Jung Suk does. There’s a scene where he tries to be all cool in front of his ex but before he rehearses for a long time in the stairwell for what he’s going to say and how he going to say it. It’s hilarious. I can’t wait to see him singing because it will loosen him up.

I also like Yoo in Na character exactly because she is bratty. I think she has middle child syndrome where she probably feels like her older sister is perfect and the mom is concerned with Soon Shin because Soon Sin is the runt. It’s always funny how people have different perspectives in the family because if asked the older sister she would probably say she always had to be perfect and be responsible and the mom did say she paid more attention to the older girls and felt sorry toward Soon Sin.
I wanted to say I write all of this for example and there is always exceptions to the rule.
Has anyone ever talked to their siblings or family members about their role in the family. And I don’t mean in a “well mom always did ( … ) for you and not for me” in an argument moment but in a real heart to heart. It can really surprise you what they actually say because sometimes what we feel is not reality and other times our feelings allude to something deeper within us or things within the other person. For example, maybe your mom is the middle child who always worked to get their moms attention so because of that your mom’s insecurity of not being noticed comes through her parenting style.
She’s always hovering over you because in her mind she saying without words “Hey I see you” but instead it seems like you’re under a microscope so everything you do is discussed and analyzed. Then you get in bad mood because it makes you feel insecure because all she only talks about or points out are your weakness or how you could change to be better. Kids have a tendency to remember how you make them feel and not always what you do for them. So if you make them feel good about them selves, uplift them, play with them and give them small bits sizes of wisdom not hour long discussions that will stand. But if continually point out what they did wrong tell them to do better with out giving any direction and not even asking or acknowledging how they feel about something to know what their thinking and then say, I do all these things for you the only thing that imprints on them is your words and how it made them feel like they were a failure. This isn’t true for everyone but has anyone ever noticed that your parents don’t go around their parents that much it’s usually because they didn’t have that great of a relationship mostly your parents didn’t have a real relationship with them. Your grandparents only asked about their grades and tell them to stay out of trouble.

(Back to the insecure Mother example) In her mind she trying to get you to change your “weird/bad habits” and become stronger and your thinking I am not perfect just accept me and you distance your self because at this point your like they just puts me down and you end up looking for acceptance somewhere else even if it not the right people sometimes. Insecurity which stems from fear or worry puts strain on any relationship; marriage, friendship, family, parents and children, siblings, work, baby and pet, food and stomach, cat and mouse, kdrama lover and internet speed connection. Ok I made up the last few but you guys get the point right?

The weird thing is the closer you are to those people in our lives the more the hurt can be because it’s so close to your heart. If you have an insecurity sometimes it means you may or may not know that something does not feel safe inside and you don’t know where or you may know where and it makes you not at peace, not restful within yourself. So some people over compensate, they take out on anyone and everything around them or they are fearful and get anxiety. I.E. in the case of fear, the girl who got cheated on before now always checks on her boyfriend in fear not in trust or love thinking what if he cheats and I end up heartbroken again. Meanwhile the guy would be like she’s crazy and she’s always checking up on me. I don’t have to be with this person and they breakup anyway. A lot of the time we don’t talk or share things in past that hurt us with our loved ones because it may very indeed be painful but you have open your self up to let it out or it will seep through your life.
This is why communication and honesty is so important we always try to be perfect and strong to our loved ones but isn’t that why we have loved ones. So that in our weakness they support us knowing that they have weaknesses and you have weakness. This can make people put their guard to understand one another to truly love someone because you know them and not just like or accept the good parts of them but accept and understand the area within them they don’t know how to change or fix yet. I truly believe that unconditional love and more importantly for me a even higher love, My heavenly Fathers love for me demonstrated on the cross with Jesus Christ taking my place is the only thing that make me grow and change so that now my weakness become my strengths. I honestly believe we can’t change our selves or save ourselves but pure love surely heals restores and renews. Well I got on a little tangent there but I really got inspired just now. But yeah you really can learn a lot from Kdrama. LOL.

Ni hao, Alicia. You can practice your Chinese with me. I studied it beginning in Kindergarten and Primary school.

Interesting. I’m like Dok Mi and you too. Breaking out of my shell. The thing is I’ve just recovered from depression and just starting to mingle around more with people around me. Of course, all these while on OT no one could’ve tell and that’s because this is where I get my social interaction from. A virtual reality, it’s easy. No body language to decipher, no repercussion. If I didn’t like where it was going I can just turn off the computer.

I still like my solitude but I find myself seeking out others. Like recently my friend offered me a spot in her choir group, I turned her down at first because I wasn’t keen on interacting with people. But after a second reconsideration, I decided to take the offer. In a way I was doing it for myself too. I needed to polish up on my singing.

I agree that communication and honesty is important. Love too. For me it’s learning to love yourself before giving love to others. Another thing I’ve learned is that, regardless of how hard or how frequently you’ve fallen, always get back up because there’s so many beautiful things worth getting up for. For me it’s definitely music. It’s the reason I’m still alive today.

I hope you have a nice day and thanks for sharing. :)

      Congratulations, Licia!

(I’m temporarily out of the drama-game so I have no opinion on everything else, lol! Sorry! :) )

    My second time here! Hi!

Shinhwa’s 15th Anniversary Concert is happening TODAY!!! I’m curious to know whether some of the boys are awake already because they couldn’t catch a wink?! Haha.

Just finished Que Sera Sera two days ago (initially watched it for Eric and I’m interested just by reading the synopsis.) and I’m a Jung Yumi fan now! Then I watched the first 7 or 8 eps of I Need Romance 2012 until Shin Ji Hoon came into the picture.. because I can’t stand Kim Ji Suk’s acting at all. I know he’s LOVED by almost everyone who watches the show because he’s just so perfect but I really, REALLY can’t stand the pouty lips. It’s enough for me to bare Yeol Mae and her never-ending chats and Suk Hyun and his ohmaigod I-love-you-but-I-have-to-push-you-away-cos-I-love-you-but-I’m-gonna-be-cold-to-you-but-I-love-you-from-the-bottom-of-my-heart attitude, then came the pouts and the cheesy acting. Oh gosh. I skipped through almost everything in the second part of the show and read some recaps.. Done. Yumi, you are so pretty in INR2 and you have cute chemistry with Lee Jin-wook, but you chose the wrong project. :(

Now I’m watching some korean dramas like Cheer Up Mr.Kim, Spy Myung-wol and Brain whenever I feel like it. Still trying to get over QSS…

Waiting for Saikou no Rikon subs everyday. Show is too good.

    • 35.1 ht

Omfg, I screwed up the whole thing. Infinite facepalms for me. I’m never gonna type HTML on a phone again.

    • 35.2 Korazy Lady

I actually liked INR2012 and thought Jung Yumi and Lee Jin-Wook were adorable together but I agree, I am not a fan of Kim Ji Suk at all. I just don’t find him attractive. But I did like his character and think it was a pretty compelling second lead.

    • 35.3 enz

glad another one likes QSS! i learned about shinhwa after QSS and also like eric, the leadernim. i love the bormance of shinhwa. have you watched their win-win interview?

    • 35.4 Carmensitta

SHINHWA!!! I’m a huge fan of theirs, discovered them when they released Venus and then followed Shinhwa Broadcast and tried to find out as much as possible about them.
I saw a few photos from the concert and LOVE their new hairstyles! I’m really curious what songs they used for the concert, heard they rearranged them and performed with a live band and orchestra *.*
I’m sad I’m not able to go to their concert so I’m playing their songs non stop kkk. I discovered xiami because of them since it’s like the only site that has all their albums and the members’ albums as well.

    • 35.5 cmrprindle

Welcome back to the OT, ht. And don’t worry about screwing up the html-tags. On more than a few memorable occasions, ppl have screwed up the tags for the entire rest of the OT. This is small potatoes ;)

  36. 36 Ann

Hi! I am watching Queen of Ambition, IOM, and TWTWB. I’m also watching IRIS 2 with my husband because I thought an action drama would be what he prefers. I don’t think it’s too bad. Ray is good at acting in English, and I was impressed with Jang Hyuk’s English acting as well in spite of the heavy accent.

I still want to hear from those of you in Dallas!! Tweet with hashtag #dallasbeans or reply to this post!

  37. 37 cv

    Happy OT/Friday/Weekend all! :p

    I’m a bit late….busy with work.

Have not been watching much Kdramas this week. Been watching animes/jdramas and K music shows such as Voice K2 and kpop star 2. They got some good singers.

New itunes music just bought a few days ago:
    Lee Hi’s It’s over/one sided love
    ukiss’s standing still/my reason
    Kwill’s I need you/symptoms
    2am’s new album
    BAP’s one shot

    Have a good weekend! ^^

    • 37.1 zgznoona

      Happy OT to you too
      How are you doing?

      • 37.1.1 cv

        Hi zgznoona!

Doing well here. How are you? How’s the trip? Looks like you are having a great time! I’m so jealous—all the traveling you are doing. hehe

Did you post any pic up on twitter? Be so awesome to see some pics. See any celebrities?

        • 37.1.1.1 zgznoona

          Yes, check twitter
Not many pics, but some are better than nothing ;)

  38. 38 zgznoona

My fellow beamers, I’m back…at least in DB and for this week. :P
I hope you’re all doing well.

After 3 weeks in Japan, I feel time is going way to fast.
I’m meeting a lot of great people, and don’t have time to feel lonely even when I’m traveling solo. I’m not so sure it’ll be the same case later on, but so far that’s the case.

My Japanese is not getting much better, but I’m slowly learning. It’s hard to study on your own, when you have a lot of distractions and excuses not to study.
Food is delicious, and I’m starting to think I better control myself if I don’t want to gain a lot of weight.
Even busy and traveling I found some time to watch dramas. Just finishing those that I had started before my trip.
So I have to finish L7. Don’t kill me, I know it turn in to a nonsense, but if only for the actors I have to finish it.

I finished FBND, I just love it

The rest are jdramas: Biblia, Share House no koibito, Last Hope…Oh I started xxxHolic, interesting, not sure I’ll handle well the horror part. But so far, it hasn’t been too bad

    • 38.1 JoAnne

I did watch the first episode of xxxholic and liked it a lot, Zgznoona, but I was waiting for more episodes to be subbed. I also read about the first episode’s worth of the manga and liked that too but it’s hard to read small print like that. Plus I don’t know why, it never dawned on me before, but the reason manga didn’t make a lot of sense to me always is I was reading left to right!

What is the xxx standing for anyway? Glad your trip is going well. I never tire of seeing pictures hint hint hint

      • 38.1.1 zgznoona

LOL, I know I’m not posting much pics. But you have access to both my twitter and fb accounts so don’t complain too much. I can assure you you’ve seen more than my mom.

Not clue about the xxx, but I’m sure somewhere out there we can find the answer. ;)

    • 38.2 KimYoonmi

      今日はZGZ눈나。お元気ですか。泣くなはらちゃん見てますか。楽しみですよに。日本語おべんきょうしますよね。

=P You said you were studying… I slipped in some Korean… ^^;; (The kanji should be easy though).

If you need practice, I’m sure there are people who can help on this blog.

I need more practice on my Korean too.

      • 38.2.1 zgznoona

Thanks *goes to study* I know very little Kanji. At least I know “today” My Kanji knowledge can make people cry. LOL
But I’ll get there, eventually ;)

    • 38.3 cmrprindle

zgz!!! I feel like such a silly goose for not knowing you were in Japan. I’m going to blame it on not being Twitter for Lent. As JoAnne imo said, pictures! Glad you’re having a good time. Keep traveling safely :)

      • 38.3.1 zgznoona

I know real life it’s keeping you busy.
Actually I visited Raine, Shel, and Cherkel before I left.
If you have some time to go into Twitter you’ll see some of my pics. I’m writing a travel blog, but I’ve been kind of lazy with it.
I hope you are okay ;)

        • 38.3.1.1 cmrprindle

I actually gave up social media for Lent, so it’ll be a couple of weeks before I can see the pictures :( But I have something to look forward to! I do remember that you were going to see Raine, Shel and Cherkel, so I don’t feel so bad about Japan :D

  39. 39 far away

    Hi everyone!
Hope you all are doing well and enjoying your weekend. Well, as opposite to the world, in my country the weekend ends today and my week starts tomorrow!

Anyway, i just have a question, there is something that I don’t get. The drama starts shooting 2 weeks prior to its premier day which gives them enough time to produce 2 to 3 ful episodes before the first episode gets aired. So how they end up in live shooting and all the mess that brings???

I would appreciate is someone could explain it to me. What goes wrong for them to have a messy schedule when they started early enough I would assume!

    Thanks

    • 39.1 cmrprindle

I think if anyone had a sane explanation for why the Drama Lords make the schedules so tight, we would all be happy. I’m sure JB and GF have explained the reasons why before…but they’re still kinda crazy. I think it has to do with money from networks, and getting a drama picked up, and stuff like that (lots of poor planning!). But, really, it’s all kooky-crazy. There’s always a point in the middle of a drama when all the main actors look horribly tired with lots and lots of makeup trying to cover the bags under their eyes. I always feel so bad for them :(

  40. 40 TS

    Hey Everyone,

First of all, thank you JB for the Daybreak download! I love it! But I can’t find more on itunes, sob.

I’m super tired so I’ve just been doing short responses to people. Off for a much-needed vacay tomorrow (let’s hope it’s got the change and recreation required – family’s involved, so it’s touch and go) & will try to keep in touch.

    Muahz!

P.S. And if anyone’s got a download link for Daybreak’s album Aurora where that song came from, please contact me. I put my tumblr in this time, so just click on TS.

    • 40.1 TS

Or, maybe I can’t be contacted through Tumblr? Just had a look at the settings.

So, if anyone has a download link for Daybreak’s complete album, please just post it here. :-)

    Hello Beanies,

Watching That Winter there were Smokin Hot People Steamin Up All Over But It’s Still A Frozen Hell.

Need more Kim Bum and his awesome wardrobe.

I was sick, missed a week of work, got better and got some more cooties. Awesome, just in time for Spring Break. Took the GRE and got Sunbae neutered ( Yeah, I know, that sounds so wrong) so I was semi productive. The spring cleaning schedule is shot to hades due to the creepy coughing crud I have. My get a head plan for coursework is also in the crapper. I am going to be lucky to the stuff done that is due next week. The prof that said he’d write me a grad school recommendation is now asking me to jump through hoops. I GOT A”S IN YOUR CLASSES AND YOU THOUGHT I WAS THE SHIT WHY DO I HAVE TO WRITE A LETTER OF INTENT TO YOU JUST WRITE THE DAMN THING.

    Sigh. Sorry for the vent.

    This too shall pass.

    Dear Hyun Bin,

Please select a script so the rest can go back on the market. We’d like to see Jung il Woo and Lee Min Ho sometime soon too and you are hoggin them!

    Happy Viewing Beanies!

    • 41.1 TS

Your vent seems very much justified.

  42. 42 TS

I wish Dramacrazy had an iPad app. Sigh.

    • 42.1 cmrprindle

This is a wish I have had often, although I’m always wishing for smartphone apps ;) I feel your pain.

  43. 43 korfan

Wow ….. my message is going to be waaaaaaaaay down here ……. I checked in to find you guys this morning, but to no avail …. no one to be seen (hoping everything’s ok) ……

Just checking in to wish everyone a good Friday *waves* ….. hope everyone is doing well!

      Happy weekend, korfan :)

  44. 44 cmrprindle

    Happy Weekend everyone!

I’m trying to get back into the habit of posting in the OT, even though I have virtually nothing drama-related to say, lol.

I hope everyone is well. It’s definitely been one of those “I am *so* glad this week is over” kinds of weeks for a variety of reasons, some of them hard to pin down.

Lent is going apace. I’m not sure I’m doing it right, but I’m getting better. In related news, this week I’m sitting in on my first Sunday School class as a teacher at my new(-ish) church. The nerves, I have them.

And that’s all I’ve got. Off to read the comments! All 400+ of them. :D

  45. 45 verte

Wooaaaahhhh!!! I didn’t realise Open Thread ever had so many comments!!! And I’ve been dramabeaning for years!

    ANYWAYS,
Hello everyone! :D Nice to meet you :)

    • 45.1 Enz

I’ve looked at past OTs and they had like 500+ comments!

      • 45.1.1 verte

And I never noticed at all!!! D:

  46. 46 ahjummabunny

    Helo Everyone!
Sorry I seem to only be able to do pop ins and then feel guilt when I remember I did intend to return later. I’ve been catching up on about 2 years worth of us shows. Which was really quite lean. Most of my favorite tv writers and creators didn’t have anything or a lot of the shows I used to watch were ending. I saw a few of the 2012 dramas I missed while I was watching sageuks, I enjoyed them but after awhile they all seem to be the same story. I’m only watching incarnation of money and enjoying it. I’m waiting for 10 which I think is expected to return next month. Pins and needles!

    • 46.1 cmrprindle

AJBNY!!! How I’ve missed you (although mostly it’s been me missing). Any plans on coming to the DB meetup if it happens?

      • 46.1.1 ahjummabunny

        prindlaaay!
AWWW I missed you first though! I’d love to meet up! What are the plans? I think we have the same level of mia activity or lack thereof? How did I get into that corner. I should have more time after I stopped working but I seem to be finding ways to fill it.

    • 46.2 zgznoona

      Bunny!!!!!
      We missed you.
Good to see you are doing fine :)

      • 46.2.1 ahjummabunny

        Amiga!
I think the last time I was here you were moving, helping someone move? I hope that worked out okay.
