Shin Ha-kyun’s chase movie Running Man

Here’s a look at the upcoming chase thriller starring Shin Ha-kyun and Lee Min-ho (the younger one, from Rooftop Prince and Moon/Sun) titled, of all things, Running Man. I’d forgive the title not being something cooler like Man on the Run, but why on earth is it named after a hugely popular variety show? I hear Running Man and I want my weekly dose of Gary. Where be mah Gary?

The chase flick stars Shin Ha-kyun as a driver who specializes in speed — he’ll charge you more than a cab ride, but he’ll get you across town in record time. So like the Transporter but with better manners and a more above-board day job? He has a son (Lee Min-ho) who’s only 18 years younger than him (whoopsie, teenage dad) and though their relationship is tense, Dad’s sole dream in life is to buy a house for the two of them to live in. Aw.

Trouble starts when one day he’s called to drop someone off, and the passenger turns out to be a bloody murder victim. It’s a classic Wrong Man scenario, with him being caught redhanded by mistake, and getting chased all over the city as the prime suspect in this guy’s killing, all the while being manipulated by the people behind the frame job. While on the run he sets out to clear his name so that he can salvage a relationship with his son.

The action/plot setup seems like your standard fare, but I like the father-son relationship. It seems to be more than just a throwaway love interest, so hopefully there’s a bit of heart in there… yunno, amidst the exploding cars.

Running Man hits theaters in early April, and then Shin Ha-kyun’s new political rom-com drama All About My Romance starts soon after. Busy, busy.

I know he's not handsome but he is very intense and charismatic. Watch "Brain" from last year.

Yea just mention his name in anything and I'm gonna watch it. He reminds me of Al Pacino who is another great actor that I love.

I'm excited to see Lee Min-ho. I think he did a good job in Moon that Embraces the Sun. I hope he'll get more exposure from now on.

I wonder how long before subtitles come out.
Sigh, so many cool movies... makes wish I knew and understood the korean language. Sigh.

That was Choi Tae Joon.
Both CTJ and LMH (93) were in The Great Seer.
Did you ever finish that one? I bailed.

i assume the variety 'running man' actually takes its name from the stephen king book of the same name (which is about a tv show), so its not an original title either.
but true, they really shouldve gone for another title, its not like this plot doesnt offer enough options for a cool one.

Nevertheless I am thrilled to see Shin Ha Kyun doing a drama AND a movie this year <3 Can't wait to watch them :)

Love both of them. I think the dad/son scenes will be either hysterical or very touching.

This plot sounds a lot like the movie Quick with Lee Minki but with motorcycles instead.

LOL girlfriday are you me?

It definitely looks like a lot of running :o Though Man on the Run would be a more apt title.

Having Lee Min-ki in Quick just yesterday, I have to say this sounds eerily familiar.

It kind of makes a lot of sense now that the son is the younger Lee Min-ho. For the longest time I thought it was the older and I was like wha? Shin Ha-kyun and older Lee Min-ho is like only 13 years apart.

Movie-wise, I think it should be fun. Shin Ha-kyun is great in everything he does, at least the ones I've watched. And it seems like South Korea seems to be quite excellent in making movies with lots of chasing. I might catch this movie, but we'll just see.

I can't seem to shake off the "cool and haughty" character that Shin Ha Kyun had portrayed for his character for medical drama "Brain", so it'll be really nice to see something different come from him in this movie and his new drama when it all hits airwaves and the theatre ^.^ Can't wait ~!!

Running Man the variety show must be glad its branding is so strong. Girlfriday, i think we were meant to be bffs. You say things i think. Except when I hear "Running Man" i think of lee kwang soo, what can i say? I love the foolishness.

I hope this plays where i live, "the berlin file" leaves this week and is replaced by "new world."

"I hear Running Man and I want my weekly dose of Gary. Where be mah Gary?" Ha, me too! Stresss!

Shin Ha Kyun is one of those veteran actors where I can't really imagine him as this action hero type. I like that he's playing against stereotype but I think I'd really run out to see this one. This is more like... if I had the time and there was nothing else on. But All About My Romance? I'm down for that one.
