Aww to old bachelors finally getting hitched. Shin Hyun-joon (Gaksital, Oohlala Spouses) has announced that he’ll be getting married, and will put a period on his bachelorhood come May 26. His bride is a Korean-American gyopo 12 years his junior (he’s 44, so that makes her 32), which means she’s not a celebrity; she’s a music major and the couple has been dating since last year.
I love that the celeb responses are pretty much echoes of our own (as the collective fandom, I mean): “I thought he’d be alone forever. Congrats congrats!” (Im Hyung-joon). “Hallelujah~ I’m so glad. Congratulations, truly. Welcome to the married life” (Kim Won-hee). Haha. Why is it that once a guy hits late thirties, he practically has the whole country on a mission to marry him off?
Shin Hyun-joon also tweeted the news himself on the 16th, and is in the thick of wedding preparations. The ceremony will take place at Seoul’s Grand Hyatt Hotel (a popular celeb wedding spot), and you can bet it’ll be attended by a who’s who of the entertainment industry.

Shin Hyun Joon used to date Son Tae Young. Son Tae Young cheated on him with Joo Young Hoon but ended up marrying Kwon Sang Woo. I’d bet there’s still bad blood between him and Son Tae Young.
OMG, the first drama I saw him in was in that one, Stairway to Heaven and as a child I was sickened by the fauxcest and just associated him with “neukki”ness from then and forever. But his recent comedies have convinced me of his talent.

In my opinion, its scary because Korean fans seem to feel possessive ,prying, super critical, as if they have a right to approve or disapprove of every behavior, relationship or mistake of anybody famous. Live and let live is not an option

Not just younger, but a lot younger. Once you get past a certain age, there just aren’t very many single people in your age group I guess.

It might be unfair, but after age 30, it seems that most men look for a younger bride.
Well, it depends on the culture/country too. In South Korea that’s especially true; when you look at the marriage statistics, SK has one of the lowest older woman/younger man percentage of marriages in the OECD (maybe the lowest). There seems to be more of a stigma against a women marrying younger men than you’d find in other countries, and I bet it has quite a lot to do with the strict age hierarchy + patriarchy.
