Cast fills out for omnibus film Night Before the Wedding

What a great title — Night Before the Wedding is instantly evocative of lots of conflict and possibilities, particularly when the movie is an omnibus picture. That means we’ll be given multiple story threads playing out the concept, to various romantic and comedic ends.

There will be eight main characters, and Lee Yeon-hee (Ghost), Joo Ji-hoon (Five Fingers), and Kim Kang-woo (Haeundae Lovers) are the three biggest names in the cast. Idol boy Taecyeon (Dream High) is also in the mix (although Lee Jia, who was previously mentioned as a possibility, is not). Other actors in final stages of negotiations include Go Jun-hee (The Chaser), Lee Hee-joon (Jeon Woo-chi), and Ma Dong-seok (Shut Up: Flower Boy Band).

This is the film being directed by Hong Ji-young, which explains the Joo Ji-hoon connection since she has directed him twice before, in Naked Kitchen and Antique Bakery. That should give you an idea of her storytelling style, with brightness and a light, sensitive touch. There’s a stylishness and quirkiness to her work that I like, and I hope she brings more of that flair to this movie.

No word on plot specifics or how our couples will be arranged, but with a title like that, I think we can guess the theme. Night Before the Wedding plans to begin filming toward the end of the month.

Meh, Kim Kang-woo and Joo Ji-hoon are the only one worth watching.

Same here; I'm really not sure whether I can watch it or not, because although I really like Jo Ji Hoon and both Naked Kitchen and Antique Bakery were fun shows, Taecyeon is a blot on the landscape. He is a poster boy for everything wrong with idol casting, and I am sick of having to watch him try and figure out how to act. Meh. And the fact that he is going to school, but AFAIK not doing anything to learn more about his supposedly chosen craft, just annoys me more. I guess he sees it as a lovely money tree with some ego strokes as an added bonus. Double meh.

exactly. Someone on a previous thread said viewers aren't willing to give an idol who doesn't show a natural talent for acting a chance or be patient with them while they improve, and frankly, why should they?

I mean, how many bad/mediocre performances of some idol 'working hard' am I supposed to sit through (and I don't seek this shit out, I'm interested in this film for other actors/director) until they deliver the mythical non-terrible performance?

I get wanting to stretch your boundaries and try other things, but what idols' fans seem to forget is that their idols are not entitled to have a career in film and television if they don't have the skills and keep turning in supar performances.

Though I'm not nearly as angry and I'll still watch a film/show even if they have one bad actor in it, I do agree that it is not at all reasonable or required that I sit through someone's bad acting stages for the sake of giving him/her a chance to improve. Why? I came here to see a quality movie/show not someone's baby steps in the acting arena, especially if they're in the lead role.

Acting training belongs in amateur movies and campus theater, not on my screen. I only want to adjust to someone still learning, if I've chosen to go to a local school's production.

And yes, there are varying degrees of acting ability and every actor continuously learns their trade but there should be a certain benchmark every actor (idol or non-idol) has to meet before they get cast in a major role.

And before anyone pulls the Park Yoochun card, he honestly wasn't that amazing his first few roles. He was wooden in Sungkyunkwan Scandal to the point that many gravitated towards the other characters. (No, it wasn't just his character's personality.) He was merely serviceable in Ms. Ripley. It wasn't until Rooftop Prince that I saw any improvement. But then again both Rooftop Prince and I Miss You were over the top story wise (the former as a comedy and the latter as a melo), so his overacting at times fit in well there. And this is coming from someone who's been a Cassie for about 7 or 8 years now with Micky as my ultimate DBSK bias for about half of that time.

Even if I include Yoochun, however, he'd be an exception. For every idol actor that is good, there are 10 who aren't. Yet all of them are getting lead and second lead roles despite the fact that they'd struggle to get somebody's friend's kid brother/sister role had they not been connected financially.

Sometimes I feel like the idols get big roles because their management company is a big sponsor of the film or drama (or else the drama wouldn't get made) or they want to use the idol fanbase to promote the drama. It looks bad that idols with no talent in acting are taking up all these roles, then again, maybe the producers should stop offering large roles to idol actors who can't act.

I do think that more mediocre actors should just practice their acting craft in dailies instead of leaving such big evidence of mediocre acting by headlining a major movie. I'm sure 10 years later, when they've finally moved up in acting, they'll look back and be like "uggh! what was I thinking?" and feel embarrassed.

I complete agree with you. I couldn't care less about the other actors especially Lee Yeon Hee and more so, Taecyeon.

I am so HERE for Joo Ji-hoon, it's not even funny. He's always picked interesting projects (apart from that Five Fingers mess) and his movies have had more scope for him to really stretch as an actor than his dramas did, so I am hopeful for this.

Still not thrilled about Taecyeon potentially stinking this up with terrible acting again, though.

I know a lot of people hate/dislike Lee Jia (mainly because of her scandal? and then her acting? Idk, it's difficult to find any fan of her.) but I really want to see her act again. I think she did a good job in Me Too, Flower! (btw, the first and only LJA's drama I've seen)... well, I like her.

I agree Hong has some quirkiness to her movies. I thoroughly enjoyed Antique Bakery. um Naked Kitchen.. not so much though. Funny how I really do not care about the confirmed cast but am more interested in the latter choice.

I like her too. I'm very sorry to see that she can't find a job anymore. We have criminals who can work in K ent but because of a divorce (not our business!) she's been blacklisted. A shame!

Is it ironic that one of the leads in this movie was... Ok, I'm not going to continue. Don't want to offend any fans.

Yeah, it's so sad. Honestly, the lawsuit was a mess but it's not like Lee Jia purposely kept her marriage life quiet from the public but poor girl has to apologise profusely to everyone in Korea and receive all the blames and hate. Didn't Jung Woo-sung also say LJA told him about her marriage before the leaked news hit the media? (Though I wish he had cleared the misunderstanding amidst the scandal). Sigh!

I don't think she's blacklisted because of her divorce. She did that drama with yoon si yoon right after her scandal. I think it's just that the public no longer sees her as an innocent person and her image has been ruined (she was married secretly to seo tai ji for years and then publicly dated jung woo sung while still legally married) that is why she hasn't been cast in many dramas. Why would they cast an actress nobody wants to watch? Same goes for Joo Ji Hoon... but his scandal wasn't as jaw dropping as lee jiah. I don't have anything against her but her acting is just so so for me. The first drama she did was the only one I liked her in. the others were kind of hard to watch.

She wasn't blacklisted, she just doesn't have her connections anymore to get her some work.

She got some roles due to her husband and his friends...

Exactly, she wasn't that popular to begin with. She got her first acting role opposite Bae Yong Joon in Legend who was good friends with her secret husband back then. At the time it didn't make any sense for a noobie actress to take on a lead role opposite a Hallyu star like BYJ.
She was a total weak link in Legend and Beethoven Virus in my opinion, so I didnt want to watch her in a another drama. I dont know if her acting has gotten better but I'm glad she didn't run and hide after her marriage was discovered. I think she was treated unfairly by the public and I hope she 'll make it on her own.

I want to see her act again too! I don't think she's suited for the typical kdrama heroine role (she can't do cute very well), which limits the amt of opportunities she can get. Combine that with her age...the only women around that age who can still get good roles are the ones who have twice as many dramas under their belts and have been household names for years and have had more than one hit. And Lee Ji Ah has only had one big hit to her name.

I feel like if we don't get to see her this year, she'll just fade away...

This sounds really interesting, I loved both Naked Kitchen and Antique Bakery.
Meh about idol boy, he is not a good actor. I hope his role is teeny and not particularly demanding.
Lee Yeon Hee can give a solid performance, she was adorbs in Hello Schoolgirl.
But the rest of the cast is the one if more excited about.

I must be the only one who doesn't mind Taecyeon's acting to much even though it is pretty weak. Well maybe that's cause i've seen worse idol actors than him... Anyway, I will watch this though for kim Kang-woo!

To be fair, Taecyeon is sort of on par with the weaker crop of non-idol actors and is nowhere as horrible as that kid, JB, in Dream High 2. Ugh! bus,

Song Seung Hun comes in mind and he's been acting for years. I think people seems to forgot that Kang Dong Won acting debut but yet he was given chances to act. Most of male actor used to be model, they were stiff but nevertheless was given chances to act bcos of their good luck.

SSH is not a bad actor. It just depends on if the role he plays is good. I liked all his other dramas except for Dr. Jin. To me he was not stiff in Autumn Love, Summer Scent, East of Eden, and My Princess. I don't know why people take one bad drama or base it on looks and then tag that to him like that's all he's going to be. It's not his fault that some people are not into those kinds of dramas. I am watching When a Man Loves right now and think he's doing pretty good with his emotional acting. Some people are just overcritical of people they don't like. Ex. Jo In Sung's always opened mouth and wide eyes in emotional or aggressive scenes... nobody pointed that out or criticized him for it. No offense to Jo In Sung fans. Just trying to make a point. I just think that SSH isn't able to show his more relaxed side like Kang Ji Won because people expects so much out of him. He's so pressured to be the handsome tough guy that is supposed to be able to act and still be manly that it either makes him over act as in Dr. Jin.

Idols are used to gain popularity point, and as some netizen pointed out, to give selling point to the movie/drama to be marketed overseas.

So while I agree that people is getting tired with crappy acted idols, we couldn't entirely blame on them, since they get offers by the movie producers, since they need them.
There are always 2 sides of story, no?

Story wise, this is interesting!

I will continue to trumpet the awesomeness of 'Five Fingers,' since I thought it was totally fantastic (my biases notwithstanding). But you need to watch more than four episodes if you're going to give it a fighting chance -- the adult actors don't show up until Episode 5. :D
