I Hear Your Voice holds first script read

SBS’s new fantasy romance drama I Hear Your Voice is totally one of those shows where you hear all the bits and pieces about it and you think, Oh that sounds cool… but then when you sit down and think about it, you still have no idea how any of the pieces fit together. I still don’t know what to expect of this show, but I am intrigued ever since I heard that Lee Jong-seok is playing a guy who can hear people’s thoughts. It’s not every day that you come across a mind-reader in dramaland.

The drama stars Lee Bo-young and Yoon Sang-hyun as public defenders who take on the toughest cases with less than 1% chance of winning. Something tells me that’s not because they’re good, so much as they’re the low lawyers on the totem pole who have no choice in the matter. She’s a bold, sassy character with a prickly edge and a sharp tongue, and he’s an ex-cop with a macho swagger. Unironically.

And then Lee Jong-seok is this super-powered boy who can hear people’s thoughts, which kind of comes out of nowhere (and it really did in the promo press, since the fantasy element came from left field late in the game). He teams up with the heroine to investigate cases, and he’s described as the quintessential man-boy: confusingly both manly and boyish, and mysteriously charming.

The show is described as a fantasy romance, which is why I still don’t get how these characters fit together (mostly on the romance scale, since I think Lee Jong-seok is the only supernatural thing about the show). It’s just all a little half-baked in my mental picture, because it sounds like two different dramas that don’t go together, trying to make a baby. Wait… that metaphor went to a weird place. You know what I mean. It’s not lacking for a good cast though, since on top of the three headliners, Kim Hae-sook (Childless Good Fortune) is playing Lee Bo-young’s mother, and Kim So-hyun (I Miss You) is playing her childhood counterpart. Let’s just hope the show doesn’t end up a half-baked baby.

I Hear Your Voice follows All About My Romance and premieres in June on SBS.

If we don't have one SeGa meta, I will sue SBS. :D

About "half baked babies": As long as it's not telepathy inducing brain gummibabies, we should be safe.

As long as its not fetus-time-traveling babies a la Dr. Jin, I'm happy :)

That gummifetus reference ain't gonna die that easily, huh... it has been the butt of the joke (of supernatural "things" in dramaland) since the beginning of Jin. LOL~

I'm gonna bet jong seok will be wearing headphone/ earphone a lot just to block people's thought out.

Good news for you girl, don't freak out just because KJW is not on this drama. MBC officials just confirm yesterday that he will play the protagonist role on upcoming drama "SCANDAL" alongside with Jo Yoon Hee. Let's wait for dramabeans to translate the news in english. :) probably it will be tomorrow or few days later :)

Reminds me of Soulmate.. We don't have enough I-can-read-your-mind types in kdramaland. So, I'm interested! (Please be good!)

Btw, LJS is looking good!

I love the cast and I'm intrigued by everything else. Well, confused is a more apt word but, hey, if it ends up a hot mess I can still push the mute button and have lots of pretty faces to look at!

Is anyone else wondering if this will be the first of a batch of mind-reading dramas? Fantasy elements usually come in threes in Dramaland (and bad things are not constrained to a number).

lol if mind-reading is this year's time traveling. i was actually hoping the whole apocalyptic thing would catch (end of the world/virus) more than it did.

I love Lee Jong-suk, so there's nothing stopping me from watching this drama (yet - as no amount of love for Joo Won was able to keep me watching L7SC).

Combine my love for Jong-suk with my love for Yoon Sang-hyun and Kim So-hyun... well, that's a fantasy casting I hope pays off in the end. Here's to hoping the plotline isn't as weird as it's coming off to be.

Also, did So-hyun attend the reading in her school uniform?? That is adorable.

It sounds a little bit like that canadian detective drama, The Listener about a telepathic paramedic. If they do it right it could be good! I hope...

I was thinking the same thing. Mind reading, investigation, and romance blended decently for them; so we know it is possible.

Hmm.. I really like Lee Jong Seok (Nam Soon-ah!!) & Yoon Sang Hyun, but try as I might, I just can't get behind Lee Bo Young :/ I've not enjoyed her in any of the roles I've watched her in, so I'm really torn about this one.

I have the same thought about this drama, but I'm still waiting for this with 100% excitement because of the casts.
Lee Boyoung is one hell of an actress and I love her. My baby Jongsuk is there and for him it's like.. "I don't care what drama you choose, I don't care what role you play. I love you.". And I just miss Yoon Sanghyun

The spoilers so far will indicate that Lee Jong Suk's character's dad was avenged by Lee Bo Young's character when he was young, so now he feels like he has to protect her.

They kinda live together and have a Sherlock-Watson type of relationship and solve cases together, etc.

Is it weird that I really enjoy romantic comedies with big age gaps where it's an older woman + younger guy...but I don't like it at ALL when the man is a lot older?
