Kim Woo-bin in Heirs, rejoice!

SBS is really going all-out in casting Heirs (or He Who Wears the Crown, Endure Its Weight: Heirs), with all the hot young stars it’s drawn into its casting net: The latest is none other than Kim Woo-bin (School 2013, Vampire Idol, White Christmas), which should make some people very happy. He’ll join Lee Min-ho and Park Shin-hye, our two leads, and add even more pretty to the mix.
(I recall reading comments after the last casting tease about Choi Jin-hyuk that the only downside to Choi being added was that dreams of Kim Woo-bin joining were dashed. Well, let this be a lesson to you all: Never accept an either-or situation when you can have BOTH. Greediness is happiness!)
Granted, there is the caveat that Choi Jin-hyuk is yet unconfirmed: The last we heard was that he was “considering favorably.” One more possibility currently being floated is f(x) idol Krystal, who is reportedly working out her schedule and in talks with drama producers.
I don’t have a strong opinion about Krystal, but at least I don’t actively dislike her or find her a horrible actress. I never really loved her character in High Kick 3, and it took practically 100 episodes for me to warm to her, and yes she does have this aloofness to her personality that can be off-putting. Despite all that, I’m okay with her joining this cast; she’s got screen presence and is age-appropriate and isn’t our lead, so that’s fine.
Kim Woo-bin has worked with this writer (Kim Eun-sook) before in A Gentleman’s Dignity, where he played a high school troublemaker (before then playing another high school troublemaker in School 2013), so the casting makes sense. He’s got loads of charisma and onscreen intensity and really beautifully odd features (hottest alien vampire rockstar ever). He (and Lee Jong-seok) carried the charm of School 2013, even though when you think about it Kim Woo-bin’s role in that was actually quite small—he was a catalyst and an object, but not really an active player, but still commanded your attention. He is currently working out final contract details.
Heirs purports to be a Gossip Girl–esque trendy drama set in a high school populated by the uber-rich, and with writer Kim at the helm we can expect lots of fast-flying banter and glossy characters. Sometimes Kim’s style works for me, sometimes I hate it with the burning fire of a thousand venereal diseases. I know which one I’m hoping for this time out.
Heirs is being prepped as an October drama on SBS.

throw hong jong-hyun (!!!) and lee soo-hyuk into the mix, and oh how thrilled i'd be. how much i'd love a vampire reunion!!!!!
there is such a real possibility that lee min-ho will be outshone here, given how spectacular the male supporting actors are.
i'm less thrilled with the female castings, and even less pleased at the news of krystal. i didn't like high kick 3 and couldn't get past the second week, because i couldn't stand baek jin-hee and to a lesser extent, krystal. and high kick 2 was a dud for me because i realized i hated shin se-kyung. lol, i swear i'm not a chronic people hater!
i'll have to admit though, krystal's gorgeous. i just hope she doesn't play someone super bratty, because then that would be TOO fitting with her icy persona (and rumored character). make her likeable, and i'm ready to like her.

LMH, will not be outshined by these guys. I can't wait for the drama to start so I can laugh when all of you guys switch teams and try to jump on the LMH bandwagon. But there is no more room and y'all are not needed on this bus!
I find it hilarious how people are a hot drama away from who they so call love. Gu Family made y'all love papa gu. School 2013 (which I hated), have y'all riding WB jock. LMH had a bad year being casted in Faith, so he isn't "hot". That's why I can't wait for this drama, to see many of y'all jumping on his jock again. *rolls eyes*

To be honest I wasn't interested in this drama because I didn't know what it's going to be about and I'm not a fan of Lee Minho nor Park Shinhye.
But it turns out to be a Gossip Girl (I loveee GG, it's my guilty pleasure) kind of drama, and Kim Woobin joins the cast............. now I AM interested!
About Krystal, I love f(x) and her, so it's not a problem for me. She's going to be the second lead, right? I think I can imagine her being the bitchy one (all hail Queen Blair Waldorf) and she's going to do fine...

GG was amazing its first year (more precisely, the first sixteen episodes before that underwhelming "reveal" of Serena's secret), and then it was all downhill from there. They just kept trying to top themselves with all the "scandalous," "outrageous" antics and forgot about the heart of the show (specifically Blair and Serena's friendship) which was supposed to underpin the whole series.
Instead, it just became about hooking everyone up with one other, snarky/bitchy putdowns, and cat fights. I love me some snark, but I need character consistency, development and genuine heart underlying it all.
But yes, all hail Leighton Meester. <3

Gossip Girl huh? This could be interesting in that every characters in GG defy every character tropes that Kdrama like to have, but then this is KES drama so there is hope :D
Firstly, the most sympathetic heroine in GG was far and away Blair Waldorf, but she can be a handful at times (which is 99% of the time) and there is no trace of Candy in that girl, she was trampling, demanding, backstabbing and needy. The writing and in large part, the acting carried Blair to a non-hateful level. Let's see if Korea can handle THAT! Ha.
And no, i DO NOT wish Krystal in the role. She IS icy, we need someone who can bring warmth to the iciness. Think Suzy or Park Se Young.
Secondly, the male leads, let's hope they dare enough to put a Chuck Bass who's the assiest of all ass who actively sabotaged other people but can remain charming. I didn't know how it happened but Chuck wasn't supposed to be the lead at ALL. Then he stole the show right from under Dan and Nate (turning Nate into man-whore in the process - i know, poor writing happened to him) and never looked back.
Serena van der Woodsen, will Korea be ready to accept a perfect but flawed underneath heroine? This could be very interesting.

GG was my guilty pleasure, it had its flaws and kinda got makjangish in its last few seasons but was addicting. Like you said characters in GG defy every character tropes that Kdrama like to have so I think the similarities between the two shows will stop at rich kids in high school.
If I had to guess I think this drama will probably be something like this: lee minho's character and krystal's character are already together and their families see them as the perfect merging of two chaebol empires.
then comes along park shin hye (who is of course not rich and is a candy) and messes this relationship all up
kim woobin's character will probably be the ass and/or player who secretly has a heart of gold that also falls for park shin hye
blah blah a whole bunch of stuff happens and lee minho's character will realize that with wealth comes burden and sacrifices like can you love a poor girl thus the long as title ...>He Who Wears the Crown, Endure Its Weight: Heirs
i will still be watching the drama bc i like all the actors but i won't be holding my breath when it comes to the storyline

Its not going to be like GG. Any writer worth their salt would never like their creation to be like any other. It's death knell for an artist if their work is called a copy or even be associated with others. The school/ college setting might be there but the characters and the story will be different....more suited to the Korean culture. I do hope that it will be like that.
One of the reasons I like watching Kdramas is their values, cultural depiction and beautiful landscape. An author of KES repute surely does not need to follow others for interesting characterization or story telling.

JK. Everyone is entitle to their opinions. I personally fell in luv with him in White Christmas ( watch WC if you haven't yet!!!) but I feel the same way about the whole cast in that drama. So whenever any of them are cast Im beyond happy for them!

If PSH plays your basic Candy-type heroine, Krystal a one-dimensional bitch, and either Lee Min-ho or Kim Woo-bin the stereotypical aloof chaebol cad, I will scream.
But who are we kidding, that's EXACTLY what will happen, lol.
I'll be interested in seeing how they differentiate KWB and LMH's characters since I'm assuming they'll both be chaebol types. I guess one of them will be icy and stiff and the other a player/bad boy.

Hazel, I think you have this show nailed. They can say it will be like Gossip Girl, but in actuality I think we are headed for BOF2. Lee Min Ho is running back to his comfort zone, and PSH has never left it.

Sorry to all you Jung Yong Hwa fans, but this is a MASSIVE improvement! JYH is ok and cute, but Woo Bin CAN ACT and is super sexy. In fact, I like him so much I'll be rooting for him way more than LMH.

Hope everyone has a separate loveline in this one. I'm tired of love triangle sacrificing a character's awesomeness because he/she's miserable for an unrequited love. Seeing the history of KES drama though, i might have my prayer answered. Think Oska-Kim Sarang's character in SG, or the four quadrants of lovelines in AGD. Woobin playing a heartless playboy whose only match is the icy queen B will be such a treat!

so this will be Korean GG, I don't know if they will adapt all t main characters from GG, but quite sure enough for if PSH be Serena, it would be hard to choose Blair's place, not Krystal, while she could at least be Jenny Henphrey, I wish they would have wise choice for Blair's.....humm... LMH, KWB & (if CJH join) and Dan, Nate & Chuck, I want to see KWB as Chuck =D
anyway, can't wait to see Heirs, so looking fwd to October.

my personal wish, KWB would play a different character from his last dramas which had pretty same type as a tough young high schooler, gangster style. So I hope this time he could show his talent as different one like as Nate

And I thought t writer and production team cast KWB for Chuck's, CJH for Nate's, LMH would play Dan. but yet I got this inkling for t writer would make LMH and PSH as Chuck and Blair.
hummmmm... Krystal?? NO wayyy! she way much need to catch up with B and S' characters and also her acting was below watchable in Highkick
in GG, B and S was played fairly t same level, so I wish it would be t one who can act with PSH, I first thought UEE would suit Blair's, but I'm not sure about it, I only saw her in You Are Beautiful. All I wish is they wouldn't bring anyone who could ruin t drama and cast someone as t casting list now perfect.
The Writer I know from her previous works, she is quite good at satirical plots, which is similar to GG's, so no doubt to her, but still wish she could totally convey GG's satirical level into t Heirs.

Have to agree Woo Bin has the oddest collection of features, but he makes them work. I expect we'll see a vampire role in his future at some point. How can anyone see that face and not think of him playing a fictional monster at some point?
