Lee Jun-ki picks Two Weeks as next drama

Lee Jun-ki has announced his next drama project, and it’ll be a thriller for MBC called Two Weeks, which may sound familiar as it’s the drama from the 49 Days, Prosecutor Princess, and My Daughter Seo-young writer that takes place within a two-week time span.

Yay for Lee Jun-ki coming back to television… though I’m a little disappointed that this means he won’t be taking that other project he was considering, 1930s action noir Age of Feeling. Both projects have their merits so it’s not that he’s chosen badly; I just really dug the idea of a period noir set in Shanghai and thought he’d be a great fit for it. (As far as I can tell, Age of Feeling is still in the planning stages and hasn’t secured a broadcaster yet.)

No matter, since it’s Two Weeks he has confirmed, which on paper sounds vaguely like Mandate of Heaven mashed with 24: The hero gets slapped with a false murder charge and learns that he has a daughter with leukemia, and spends the next two weeks in a life-or-death struggle to save himself and the girl. On the upside, thanks to the time period I don’t actually think the contemporary Two Weeks will be just like Mandate (though there are the obvious similarities, of course). And while the time frame doesn’t equate to a real-time scenario like 24, I do think cramming an entire drama of roughly 20 episodes within 14 days makes for an interesting storytelling format. Plus, I just really like Lee Jun-ki and would be happy to watch him on my screen again; he was so great in Arang and the Magistrate and conveyed a sensitivity that I haven’t always felt from him (usually because he tends to push, emotionally, rather than letting moments breathe), and I want to see him keep up that growth.

Two Weeks will be a Wednesday-Thursday drama that’ll follow Queen of the Classroom (which follows gangster melo-romance When A Man Loves). It’ll premiere in Auguest.

Don't forget that Kdrama tends to follow the trend, so in this case maybe Lee Jun Ki wants to star in a drama that appeals to massed in this moment. Arang was good but in terms of success it was a long way till 40% ratings.

A drama doesn't have to be 40% (national drama) to be called successful. Hardly any drama hits 40% these days.

Rating is overrated <---- The irony of that, but's it's true. I've seen some of the GREATEST dramas, that left be puzzled, "Why was the rating so low?" and I've seen some MEH ~.~ drama that had higher rating. Again I was puzzled, "Why was this rated so high?"

Ratings are definitely overrated as an indicator of quality. Unfortunately, they're so important because the industry attaches importance to them and makes decisions based on them, so dramas need good ratings to stay viable.

But yes, I agree that some of my favorite dramas were low-rated, and vice-versa.

0

Exactly, look at "The End Of The World". It's one of the best drama in terms of quality that is currently airing but the episodes has been cut in half because of the low ratings.

0

toda la razón...mas de una vez me he sorprendido con algunos dramas, pues, hay algunos sobre valorados, como otros que no me cabe que tengan tan bajo indice... el rating muchas veces,no va de acuerdo con lo que yo espero

TRUE, however think about pupils in our schools: their grades are a tool to measure their performances, the genius of the class always has his/her grades in the middle range while the most competitive one will have straight A+. Who will be the most successful one? The one who knows how to make money (think Bill Gates, Steve Jobs)

Lee Jun Ki starred in so many underrated dramas even though he is one of the best actors of his generation.

82'ers :
Rain - not even ONE underrated drama even though he ain't the better actor from the two of them and Full House is one of the greatest hits produced in Korea. The icing on cake?

Hyun Bin: 2 hits: My name is Kim Sam Soon and recently Secret Garden, yet after MNKSS he lost popularity and said : "I won't be shaken by popularity". Because people forget pretty easy. Between Lee Kun Ki and Hyun Bin I could say Hyun Bin is the better actor, however here we have room for discussion about who's who.

Im Ju Hwan : while filming A Millionaire's First Love he was watching Hyun Bin on set. Why? He was wondering why Hyun Bin is the leading man and he wasn't even though they have the same age. Leaving the pretty aside ( I think Im Ju Hwan is the prettiest, HB the manliest) Im Ju Hwan is a decent leading man, yet his big break didn't occur yet.

Jung Gyu Woon - we all love him, yet he was the main leading man only in Romance town and that was a vehicle for Sung Yu Ri and the rest of the maids.

Joo Ji Hoon - we can't say that his comeback was in style, but he holds his own in klala land, but Mawang is one of those dramas: poor ratings yet highly appreciated by the fans.

Ha Seok-jin - nice, cute but forgetable

Julien Kang: is he even considered a leading man?

Lee Young-Hoon - I doubt that you even heard of him, he is a movie actor. He debuted with No regrets and last seen in Traffickers.

Shin Dong Wook Soulmate I miss you, he is the least lucky in the bunch of 82'ers because he is ill.

Kwon Se-In...errm more in the second lead territory

Somehow I feel that the 82 generation is loosing ground to the 87 generation: Lee Seung Ki, Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook, Jang Geun Seok, Joo Won, Jung Il Woo, Ryoo Deok-hwan(Faith, God's Quiz ), Top (Choi Seung-hyeon) with "71-Into the Fire", Choi Si Won, Seo In Gook (Answer me 1997). I even like Kim Yeong-kwang (Can we get married)

Almost the same age as Lee Jun Ki are Kim Nam-gil, Kang Dong-won, Jo In-Seong, Kim Rae-won, Kim Jae-won, Lee Ki Woo, Kim Ji-hoon but they are a year older and we can't compare two years '81 and '82 with the year of the rabbit club

It can't be said hyunbin is a better one, he can't challenge many characters or genres, the same with many other popular k-actors. Though there are many fans of SG and he did new character for him but he acted overly in many scenes. His overacting there was much more than LJK's emotional ones. Wonder why ppl don't talk about it?
LJK's emotional acting is okay enough for the stories' situations. Plus LJK never fade his popularity since he got his fame in domestic & overseas before the military, not of his looks but of his choosing style of scripts & acting skills, almost new to the viewers in that production time periods (but HERO was the pd team's faults in changing scripts & many actresses, etc.).
Iljimae was a hit in both korea & overseas while others are underrated in korea but popular in overseas. There are many new viewers who haven't watch his previous works and know him through AATM is just bcos KDs became more popular in 2009-2010, that's when he served in military. Many of his dramas are underrated in korea maybe bcos most koreans (except his fans) like melos & rom-coms, and LJK doesn't follow their trend. I think almost all his projects are worth watching and satisfactory. He's just a perfect & unique actor who thinks seriously and works hard in the industry.

Yes, yes!! JG fans are so loyal because of his great talents & personality. There aren't other actors (not include singers & idols whose fanbase are larger than actors) who were welcomed on the army discharge day with over 1000 fans. He got over 2000 fans, the first in history. These are the affect of his hardworking attitudes. He's superb and unique indeed~^^
Joongi oppa, wish you great success again with 2 weeks!!

0

Ohh Yes, I agree fully and there is nothing more that I can add to what you have said which I agree with :D

0

Agree you whole @Lily and love the exact reasons :)
I'm also excited even when reading his long message to fans! Said he won't be a family-oriented father, there will be romance & many action scenes~!! Yesss, He'll sure be the hottest daddy!!! That's what we need, kkkk^^
After seeing all his works, can't find another k-actor like him who can show complex martial arts swiftly without stuntmen & camera affects... JG is the Best*^_^*

0

Joongi fans here, (rise up my hands)

you said perfectly. I watched many Hyun Bin drama but his character isalmost the same, being chaebol or so so... or I am just too biased to LJG, kkk

0

@Merry "There aren’t other actors (not include singers & idols whose fanbase are larger than actors) who were welcomed on the army discharge day with over 1000 fans. He got over 2000 fans, the first in history."

Sorry, but I don't think the number of fans on the day of army discharge are indicative of talent or hard work. I'm not sure what they are indicative of – popularity? the management agency's skill in promoting their actor?

Plus, you have actors that get discharged but don't tell anyone about it (Kang Dong-won being one example), which doesn't mean they are not talented or hard-working, just more private.

(I do think LJG is talented and hardworking, by the way.)

0

@alua I just supported Lily's comment. If you thought it so hard, sorry for that. For KDW, that's his intention, his case.
Agencies don't need to promote the discharge date (which has been announced since the beginning of service) for popular stars, and the media will often promote about them. Also if the fans have real loyalty and ability to come, they will automatically remember their discharge date and come in front of the gate, it's nature.
There are many actors' discharge (don't want to tell the names of other popular actors who has been discharged) before & after of his but still didn't surpass his record. It's true there are many ways to get the popularity & much love from fans but I wanted to mean that LJG got them mostly because of his talents. I said no awkward things about other actors, understand me pls. And thank you too for seeing & accepting LJG's good points^^

Not my favourite kind of premise, but I'll take a peek at it at least once it airs – Lee Jun-ki is worth trying out genres that aren't my normal faves.

Plus, in terms of the narrative, I'm kind of curious how two weeks are going to play out in 20 episodes over several months.

I'm not liking the whole leukemia thing but I like the idea of him discovering he has a daughter. Will be great to see how fatherly and tender he can be. Would be good to see that side of him.

The two week premise sounds like it could be really really really good, especially if they play with flashbacks, altering POV's etc. It really might be wonderful. Am hoping it will be.

I agree that it will be nice to see the tender side of the character. I think the paradigm of a character who is a tough guy but also paternal and caring is very effective (and it's catnip for the ladies :)). I think that contrast was one of the reasons "Ahjussi" was so effective.

I'm digging neither the leukemia thing nor the murder chase part, but I shall be ignoring that for now.

I wonder how fatherly and tender he can be in two weeks though, without even knowing he had a daughter before? And while being chased? Unless he runs off with her (unlikely, if she's ill with a time-limit to get better)?

The focus could be different things – but at the moment we don't even know who Lee's character is, right? An ordinary citizen? A gangster? Someone in between?

From what I understand, he would completely, emotionally and physically, immerse himself into whatever role he was playing. You have to have the mindset of the person you are playing, get inside the character's head. He could do that perfectly,he makes the characters come alive and seem three dimensional. He is also not afraid to take on challenging. This pretty boy is an extremely talented actor.

I'm really glad to hear LJG's next project is on the way.. It's been far too long a wait!! I did have qualms when I heard about the tentative storyline (I'm now watching Heaven's Mandate so the similarity between the two is not lost on me).

I'm of two minds whether he should have picked Age of Feeling. Acting as a gangster, now that would be familiar territory for him (think Il Ji Mae and TBDW, just different eras) but would not provide him with the acting exposure he's looking for, particularly since he's well aware of the difficulty in shaking off the stereotyping by audience and he was entrapped by it for a long time (as the original flower boy). Hence, he shouldn't keep going back for the same type of role. So, I guess I'm ok with Two Weeks.

I'm fine with a similar premise as Heaven's Mandate albeit in a modern day setting, just don't have him as a gangster again, for the sake of variety (think AATM, LJG didn't have to play a gangster to showcase his acting chops and exude masculinity and intelligence at the same time). And then if we could have cute little kids who can act like Kim Hwan Hee (as Woo Joo in You're the best, Lee Soon Shin) or Kim Yoo Bin (as Choi Rang in Heaven's Mandate), and a leading lady who's beautiful and acts well, that'll be icing on the cake indeed.

He always play the same roles too! A good actor can play different roles.Just like you said,Hyun Bin's role is just the same so I don't see any difference between them.Only Hyun Bin's Secret Garden was a huge hit that made him win the Daesang award (Grand Prize)at 47th Baeksang Arts Award...with that alone it only means he's a great actor too!

I AGREE that sometime Junki 's acting especially when he cries somewhat over the top.

Well, I think being Chaebol is not challenging for him. Besides, even just a view, he already did it in My Girl. Anyway, i think you're not too right too, i appreciate many actors too, but before I am being LJG's fan, since then I am biased! and it is because so far he is the only actor (young lead actor ) who already play many different role and character and don't afraid to take a new character that is not popular character like being Satto but now, Satto is Popular. As you see, From gentle beautiful soft Gong-il, then Cool gangster as Kay, mischievous Youngi and mysterious Iljimae, Satto, and he was not only once playing different character at once.

ABOUT daesang, please check LJG's achievement too before mention it, then I know many people said he's over acy etc etc, while for me others really can't act! Or just mediocre. If get is really overacting. Then I'll better go with him rather than cart acy or just mediocre. Indeed in my Opinion as stupid girl who stupid to judge. His Acting is superb! That's why I am biased. I am biased with a reason.

I am better type my last pharagrap again, I did severe typo it's hard to type on cellphone. :)

ABOUT daesang, please check LJG’s achievement too before mention it, then I know many people said he’s over acting etc etc, while for me others really can’t act! Or just mediocre. If he is really overacting, Then I’ll better go with him rather than those who can't act or just mediocre, or even having the same character all the way with romcom type of drama. Indeed in my Opinion as stupid girl who stupid to judge. His Acting is superb! That’s why I am biased. I am biased with a reason.

Whenever LJG has decided a character for a project, he can really immerse himself in it. As he has a charismatic look, he has portrayed a smart nobleman in AATM. The acting for character like CEO will be similar for him. CEO is for melos & rom-coms, he will rarely choose them, they're not his tastes.

"He always play the same roles too"... Yes, he's always the main hero & savior for the plots, that's bcos of his talents & charisma that the script writers want to give him the main lead (As you know, most KDs are for actresses as lead roles)~! But his characters are very different. Even if the background for TBDW & Iljimae are similar, the stories totally different.

"cries somewhat over the top"... Do you notice the situations of the stories? Those situations are so hard to accept for a human. If LJG didn't cry over the top for those scenes, he shouldn't be called a great actor.

Do you think Deasang award goes to the actor who has a real best acting for a drama? NO! The korean tv stations have the traditional of giving top excellence awards & daesang award to the actors of dramas which get the most rating among 3 dramas of the 3 stations' rival. Every actor winning daesung doesn't mean he/she is great in acting, some goes right while some are wrong...

"popularity doesn’t reach all the asian countries yet.....only popular in Japan and China"?? He doesn't have time to visit around all asian countries. He has visited to many countries for events and fan events before the military. As he quickly chose his comeback project after the military within a week, he didn't have time. Now it's time for him to run for his goal (no military thing now), not for doing fan events in long distant countries (Japan & China are near to Korea). Do you also know about his fan-meetings? Many fans from outside of kr, jp, & chn are there too.
It should also be known that popularity is for a short time. LJG is establishing his acting career to be respectful to become a magnificent actor for the next generations. He only wants to be praised by the media for acting, not with scandal news so he always stay alert & avoid them unlike other stars. His goal is really genuine, not like other popular k-actors. That's why I respect him so much as a true actor, he's really a great person too~

even if he is only popular in japan and china, as you claimed, it is no joke. the rights to arang and the magistrate was sold for 200 million won per episode to japan, the highest for mbc. also, i heard it's supposed to be broadcast in the philippines.

Well. It's true!! ╮(╯_╰)╭ with a big big number of fans!!! He already passed the one who so called prince of asia in Jp, and right away after his discharged he got number two as the most popular after Mr. Overrated LMH. Do YOU have an idea about his popularity before he's going to army??? Now it is Only JP and China but he only got a year after his discharged to get that big number of fans!!! A year only with many BIG NEW YOUNG ACTORS around him!!! THAT'S A FACT!!!

No, not the truth, when he came to Thailand we all went crazy over him and when he went to Indonesia in his Army uniform I saw that he had a huge followers there as well. His latest birthday event saw lots of fans from many countries Malaysia, Philippines and Taiwan and of course us from Thailand.
Do not try to discredit actor whom you don't like, it is so unkind.

Since LJG know how to move his body beautifully, he now directs them himself~ That will be the big difference between these 2 shows! Also like this writer's skills with 49 Days :) Hmm.. the master is coming, can't wait!!

The best actor for everything is being Kan ji wan comedy drama now is the best in his generation although Lee is one of my favorites because of his charm.

You watched with low quality videos or just a liar who is annoying at a superb actor. This comment seems like trying to cover the hate with the word "favourite",, Lol~~
It's not a useful method. There are a lot of kd viewers who accept LJG is great and a rare versatile actor, except other actor biases who are just lying themselves their actors are the only best without certain reasons, like a real great actor's fans .

Opinion is like a butt, everybody has

That's what i love from Lee Joon Gi! He's humble^^ He will learn and try everything new even if it comes from a junior or newbie...

well, since opinion is like a butt, it's LJG's opinion SJK is a good actor

My Opinion is... SJK is good, but still not at his level!

i am not that humble like my Actor, sorry

who's soon yoon ki??Lee JoonGi didn't say which actor is one of the best, etc etc. He playfully said he's envious to actors who are younger than him, and he thinks ksh, sjg, yai are good so he will keep eyes on them, that's all he said. He's just too humble and genuine on his career. What is this conversation become as true as on death? Lol~
What means "wants to prove"? He's proved his great acting skills with wide range of genre: rom-com in My girl, action thriller in TBDW, action comedy romance in Iljimae, fantasy mystery comedy action romance in AATM. It's too good in anticipating excellent works of such an actor who can show new characters continuously and working hard with thoughtful minds.

Ooh I've been waiting so long for another drama from Jun Ki! Now I have August to look forward to. Though, my anxious wait for last year's Arang turned out to be a disappointment. Not in him but the production. It could be a nice drama but missed out on so much. Such a waste of LJK and Shin Min Ah (her fame, not necessarily talent).

Those who say Lee Jun Ki can't act are obviously biased or have not seen many of his shows. Overacting? Some people do not know the different acting techniques required for different genres. Just because a script doesn't call for a subdued emotion does not mean it's overacting! Try following him from King and the Clown.

I'm a fan of Junki, it's just that my obsession toward an actor ain't that too much to worship him^^I've been a fan of JG since time immemorial and I agree he's got great personality. But him as an actor, I can't definitely say he's the best actor among the other K-actors! But he's a good actor, only sometimes he's got a tendency for overacting.Even the PD said he's preventing JG for possible overacting.I'm a big fan of JG's dramas since ILJIMAE, TBD&W and AATM.I can tell if he's really a great actor if he can challenge a different role and different genre not like his usual action thingy stuff.Like for instance, a drama without action (rom-com, romance drama) A great actor has always great chemistry with the lead actress, a great actor still great even when his not in action genre.Actually,HERO is just a so so drama.....his acting there wasn't that great enough to impressed me.But JG's fighting skills is awesome and excellent without a doubt he's best in action genre. What happen to AATM? And I was wondering as what you claimed he's the best actor? But why he don't get any awards except for best couple award last year? That means the other actor's acting was more noticeable than him.Don't hate me guys because I don't hate JG.He's still one of my favourite actors but not a die hard fan of him kkkk. And I want to see him in non action genre.Peace.

If you’ve read above replied comments for LJG’s talents and his carrier, it should be understood what he really is a true great actor. It’s just you wanting to pop up with similar facts.
As fake fans who want to troll without knowing him well, all about him won’t be known. The first come out premise of “HERO” was not a normal plot like most other kds and an interesting one. But the production team changed the script & actresses again and again after his contract, that’s the fault of pd team. As he wants to keep his responsibility, he shot it until the end. He had impressive acting as always.
Action?? Did LJG always do action scenes all the time in all episodes? Most he do are fabulous acting. He do actions scenes cos his likes and these scenes are impressive ones for the viewers if an actor can make them attractive without stuntmen.
For a real great actor, whole stories as melos, rom-coms & romance are not challenging ones. LJG always try to choose projects mixed with many genres, he can impress the audience for many of his skills once in a production. That’s of course, LJG’s trademark!
How about western actors of various genre? They don’t need over the top chemistry with co-stars. As well for LJG, he always looks good with his co-stars even if the romance scenes are less. For the love story AATM, Satto & Arang has become one of the fave couples in KDland. That means LJG can do the chemistry the best for beautiful love stories.
Deasang award & top excellence awards are for the actors of dramas which got highest rating among 3 channels. Don’t know about it as a kd fan?? AATM’s rating was in 2nd place among the 3, and also the korea’s rating results are not always true for overseas’ faves.
Btw, LJG has said that if LJG is in a project, you can expect his action scenes. That will be difficult to fulfill your desire.

Your comments speak louder about what's in your mind, be true for a great actor, don't lie yourself.
There has no interview of AATM's PD since its press conf so he hasn't said about the acting of actors in AATM. The PD even said LJG is the best actor!! (who's also PD for when a men loves), in LJG's Mnet "JGstyle". As LJG wants to humble, he always hide some of his superb abilities to the k-media which is a hard to deal zone if they want to criticize someone. Of course, he sometimes talks about them to overseas' media through tv programs, interviews, etc. That's it~! These are his pride, as well for his fans to know about him.
For a non fan without knowing much about a great actor, he/she will do comments with wrong facts. It becomes somewhat just so so a troll...

I don't think you're a fan of LJG in person, because you don't have that 'fanatic ' feelings as I know fan comes from a shorter version of fanatic, so... you're Maybe a kdrama fan not the actor's fan, and you find that LJG is a good actor in your opinion. A Fan of the actor will have a mind set that her idol/actor is the best. IT can be called bias, and that is a feeling that a fan should has. You're Kdrama fans for sure

However, his anti-fans will come to troll, a little later when no comment increases cos they want no reply to their trolls. This article was updated on 7th May, so the trolls here are purposely popped up after along while of its updated day.
This comment of yours also show you are angry bcuz JG fans are still attacking to your trolls! Poor you, antis... Be smart on what you are doing to a great actor ;)
