Poster and teasers for Dating Agency: Cyrano

I’ve got double-plus-good news: Lee Jong-hyuk looks smexy in the posters for his new rom-com Dating Agency: Cyrano, and better yet, there’s zero trace of his llama hair from A Gentleman’s Dignity. It’s the little things in life. The new series from tvN is gearing up to premiere this month and has finally released a poster and a few sneak peeks, though so far they’re more conceptual teasers about the premise than actual looks at the drama world.

The 16-episode series is an adaptation of the movie of the same name (starring Uhm Tae-woong and Lee Min-jung), and stars Lee Jong-hyuk as the head of a theater group that turns its talents to helping the lovelorn (and hapless, naturally) as a way to save their dying theater. As the leader, Lee Jong-hyuk is cold and calculating, and believes that love is just hormones running wild. Girls Generation idol Sooyoung (Third Ward) co-stars as a member of the agency, who has a much more romantic notion of love than her boss does. She’s playing the Park Shin-hye role from the film, but in the drama she seems to be the leading lady, which is a little confusing. Perhaps we’re deviating from the source material more than advertised.

Hong Jong-hyun (Jeon Woo-chi) is the genius engineer on the team who goes tongue-tied in the presence of his crush, and Jo Yoon-woo (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop) plays a high schooler who loves theater with all his heart, and designs the costumes for the dating agency. How cute. Lee Chun-hee (The Thousandth Man) plays the chef of the restaurant next door, and is a character shrouded in mystery. Based on Chunderella’s character type, I’d peg him for Daniel Choi’s role in the movie (adorably awkward, hopeless in the love department) but we’ll have to see how he fits into the story. So far the promo focus is all on the episodic adventures of the dating agency, but there’s going to be more story than that, right?

Dating Agency: Cyrano follows Nine and premieres May 27 on tvN.

Question: what is a "Chunderella’s character type?" (I am assuming it is a reference to Cinderella, but I still don't get it).
Also, like GF, I didn't like Lee Jong-hyuk's llama hair in AGD. I like his haircut in these posters better. This sounds like an interesting drama.

Adding to Yukie's, it is the combination of his name "Chun" + "Cinderella" = Chunderella =)

Not sure. Probably a matter of opinion but this is not a goodlooking cast. I've watched all Oh Boy dramas and enjoyed them all, but I think I will give this one a miss.

The SNSD girl is miscast, and as much as I have grown to like Lee Jong-hyuk, something tells me this flower boys version is going to be a miss. TVN is basically exploiting the name at this point and this iteration is more like Police Academy 7.

Also, wth happened to Soo Young, she used to be the prettiest in her group and now...

Smexy Jonghyuk oppa, dorky Chunhee and Sooyoungie~ I couldn't ask for more. Have seen Flower Boy Ramyun Shop recently and Yoonwoo's a sweetie there. Haven't seen Jonghyun yet though but based on the trailers, he's a flower boy from head to toe.

Sooyoung's so lucky to be in a love triangle with those two, both Jonghyuk and Chunhee have oh-so-manly voices. Good thing All About My Romance will be done by then, my fangirl heart might completely burst with these two.

Perfect timing, (Flower Boy) Dating Agency : Cyrano will be my inspiration for June's start of classes~ *^^*

I wonder if Sooyoung will be ble to catch up to all the actors around her? So far, in all her projects, she's been a bit behind. She seems like a sweet girl, but ever since they announced her as a lead, I've had heavy doubts about her pulling off a version of the Park Shinhye character. Guess we'll see.

Every one love his own star and fave him or her on others but when you don't know about park shin hye 's acting career & the only thing you know that she do high school level dramas seriously don't mention again if you don't like her that yours but if you doesn't know other than YAB and HS please go and know other works of her :)

0

...she's better than Yoona IMO. But I don't think that says very much.

She wasn't bad in Third Hospital, but then again I only made it through like 3 episodes of that show.

I watched her cuts of Third Hospital when I found out she was cast for this. She's watchable, but I feel like she's seen one too many dramas growing up and model her characters after those bubbly, aegyo girl characters. No nuances. Again, nice girl. Not so stellar in the acting department.

Yay, It's tvN! Was a little disappointed with FBND but so far almost all the dramas I've watched are good. *crossesfingersforNine*. Also watching She is Wow which is hilarious.

Anyway, I love the cast here. Been Lee Jong-hyuk's fan since watching DWAYG? Also, Soo-young's one of my fave in SNSD so hope the writing and directing's good for this version of Cyrano.

One of the surprising dramas this season. I also love the neighbors do it while the General's minions go on as if they don't know/mind what the boss and the wife are doing. Only 12 episodes? Like J-dramas? Well as long as it continues to be funny and fresh, then it's fine by me! Better a shorter show which ended very well than a 16-18-20 episode show which has more than a few dragging episodes and fizzed at the end.

0

No, no extension. Partly because I don't see that working unless the writers really mess up (it's a bounded issue) and partly because one reason I like it is that it's not going on for ages.

0

Do you happen to know who is subbing it? I know Dramacrazy has it, but they steal their subs from a source.

I want it to be good. I really do. I need a quirky comedy.

AND I miss Jung Rok's llama hair from AGD. The 'do itself is ugly, but LJH rocked it all the way. To me, it made the character complete. I guess it was necessary to get rid of it to avoid comparisons to AGD. *goes to rewatch a random episode thereof*

For once I am unbothered by an idol. Soo Young, lookswise looks similar to Go Joon Hee, and doesn't look like she is solely going to be a pretty meek girl. I think Soo Young, in terms of most idol women, is one of the more outgoing (but not shameless) women out there. Her "idol personality", to me, doesn't feel fake and thus doesn't get in the way

oh but even in the movie.. Uhm Tae-woong doesn't end up with Lee Min-jung right? in fact they sort of leave an open ending with Park Shin-hye if im not mistaken? I mean we see her doing the whole cyrano agency thing on him?... so i guess that is why they are taking her character as the leading ladys?

The charm of the movie for me was PSY using the agency's trick to try to get with the Tae Woong's character at the end so I expected two women to be in this series.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, and I'm not the type to automatically discount anyone just because they're an idol, but I think this show really would have benefited from casting a female lead (if Sooyoung is in fact intended to be the main love interest) with more experience/gravitas/charisma to be paired with Lee Jong-hyuk - the 16-year age difference isn't helping (although a noticeable age difference between between the female/male leads seems to be the trend lately, what with IU/Jo Jung-seok, Shin Se-kyung/Song Seung-heon...Hyeri/Tony lol)

Sooyoung's very funny on variety shows, but her acting is not as interesting.

0

Required fields are marked *

agreed! i don't know much about sooyoung's acting, but i wish they casted a female lead who is bit older. I'm getting kind of disturbed at the influx of huge age gaps in dramas/movies these days. it was one of the things that made the cyrano agency movie version a bit squicky too. I thought Park shin Hye (and even lee min jung) was too young for uhm tae woong. yes, it's a drama, so the age shouldn't always matter, but there are some gaps (like this one here) that can't (and shouldn't) be crossed...

Also, an older woman would make more sense: she'd have fewer opportunities to meet an eligible man in her daily life and so would use a dating agency.

I totally forgot about this, but I am excited watching the poster because yes, Lee Jong Hyuk looks awesome!! And the story has potential. I didn't think Soo Young's character will be leading lady though, but I guess it's more traditional for a drama.

I hope she is good since I never saw her acting... she should be good for them to cast her, right? Since Flower boy series usually had good actresses...
