Kim Min-seo joins cast of Good Doctor

KBS’s upcoming medical drama Good Doctor (formerly called Green Scalpel) is amassing a pretty decent lineup, with a number of actors I quite like: Joo-won, Moon Chae-won, and Joo Sang-wook. And I also do like its latest addition, Kim Min-seo, who has turned in solid performances in numerous dramas, such as The Moon That Embraces the Sun, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, and Baby Faced Beauty.

And yet, I hear Kim Min-seo and Joo-won in the same breath and my mind immediately snaps to an association I’ve been trying my hardest to forget about, aka their recent disaster of a drama, Level 7 Civil Servant. And all of a sudden I’m no longer thinking about autistic savant surgeons and kind-hearted colleagues and touching human drama, but whether they’ll be ragingly incompetent at this career too and acting like hormone-ravaged 13-year-olds who get petulant when their crushes go unrequited. If she jokingly brandishes a scalpel at her fellow doc’s throat and tee-hees that it’s just a joke, I swear…

In Good Doctor, Kim Min-seo will play Joo Sang-wook’s fiancée, which either means he won’t be having a love triangle with Moon Chae-won and Joo-won after all, or he isn’t a very good fiancée. I… think it’ll be more of the latter, since early descriptions definitely mentioned a love triangle in the works. Well, maybe oppa didn’t mean it.

Kim Min-seo’s character is a manager on the planning board for a large university hospital. As the only daughter to the foundation’s director, she’s keenly aware of the nepotism prejudice and proves her worth by being cool-headed, capable, and assertive. She’s also hiding some kind of pain, but in dramaland isn’t everybody?

Good Doctor premieres on August 5 on KBS.

L7CS my first thought too when I read the title. *snickers* I just read JB & GF's ratings for that one and I'm glad I skipped most of the bad dramas since 2010.

If Kim Min-seo's gonna keep at being the second lead who mostly outshines the lead actress even if her character isn't written well, then I hope she continues to be awesome and not annoying as most second leads are (also not annoyed by Han Chae-ah's 2nd lead roles so far).

at least this time Moon Chae-won is a worthy first lead for her to go up against, the acting won't be a complete Curb Stomp Battle like it was with her and Han Ga-in in Moon/Sun.

Though that depends on how her role is written, really.

She swallowed up Ga in in moon.
She would have done that with choi kang hee if not for her flat/underutilized char in level 7.
Moon chae won, well... we'll see about that. She can really shine depending on what characters you give her. She has a bit of versatility but i have yet to see her in an action flick.
Good with playing sweet characters(her older shows), strong characters(princess man), and bitchy characters(nice guy)

^I second the rec for Arrow: Ultimate Weapon, or whatever title it's known by. She's fantastic there.

YES, one of my favorite sageuk movie. Park Hae-Il YUM, Moon Chae Won, Ryoo Seung-Ryong, the Ultimate trio.

Haha, I actually think her work in The Innocent Man was a very nice mixture of all three. In the beginning, she betrayed the bitchy/strong character quite well, afterwards an innocent and sweet character, until finally, a mixture of all three. I think she's fairly capable.

A very seasoned actress. Looking forward to this drama.

They have worked together before in It's Okay Daddy's Girl. She portrayed MCW's high school classmate

Oh Please. Moon Chae Won can carry her act. Kim Min Seo tends to overact. I wouldn't worry about anyone outshining any body.

I love them both but I'll give MCW the upper hand. She is no medicore actress for Kim Min Seo to outshine.

can't we have both Kim Min-seo and Moon Chae-won fight over Joo Sang-wook? that'd be yums.

I've been taken with her ever since SKKS, it's not just my perception of her character but she does come across as having a slightly cool, mysterious aura.

Maybe it's one of those business transaction "fiancee"?? Maybe, we can hope. Why or why? I do not like wishy washy male characters. I'll wait and see how the characters are written.

Solid cast -- its the first in a long time where I didn't find any weak link in our leads/seconds.
Now we just have to wait to see how they'll carry out this hard-to-pull-off premise.

just my thoughts exactly. i hope i can erase from my memory bank that disaster of a drama Joo Won was in. my hopes were up again just like THAT drama (7CSL) where i was so excited to see pre airing. but i have my hopes in KBS this must be sooooo good like Gaksital. fingers crossed...

It is amazing, but I never recognize her from one project to the next. I can't figure if she is versatile or un-memorable.

She should do cable dramas instead, where there is better hope of having her acting abilities being put to use. Else she'll just be stuck in second lead purgatory with the big 3.

i only watch ber in Level 7,I don't think that drama as bas as everybody say here. I don't even continue watching The moon embrace the sun after the adult part.I don't like Sunkyunkwan Scandal because of the typical story, nothing new in that drama like i already know the story what for i watch it....

I like Kim Min Seo's performance in TMTETS and well, based on the previous comments, it's a good thing I haven't watched L7CS yet. This drama will definitely be added on my 'KDramas-to-watch' list :)

Still contemplating whether to give this drama a chance to be on need to watch my list to watch. I don't like the OTT plot over a doctor who has personality of 10-13 years old, and the fact from all the casts only JSW is the one that I like.

To me which many of you may disagree (and I respect that), MCW and JW both tend to overact so I never enjoy their acting even if I try and drop all their drama after few episodes excepts for Ojakgyo Family which I only watched it for the 2nd brother + the maknae

Did you watch Princess Man? She was great there...

yes i doesn't agree but i respect your opinion, i think we have different acting prefference.
I drop many drama because i can't feel their emotion, i see many actor given hard role become overated even the senior one. with his short period in acting joo won get many hard role, i think people who work in drama/movie production see he is good n could portray hard role convincingly

If you think JW overact it's maybe because of his musical days.. the acting is quite different on stage and on screen BUT I've never seen such passionate actor as JW. He tends to shout a lot and gets very grumpy and angry (esp in Gaksital) but no one has blown me away with a stellar acting as JW did.

I respect your opinion, I just want to share mine too :)

That's quite a rare opinion about MCW being overact. Most people thinks that she's one of the subtle actress. But anyways, respect your opinion.

I have to disagree with you when it comes to MCW.

I, like anyone honestly, don't like overreacting more than anything when it comes to actors. You can imagine how difficult it was for me to watch that drama May Queen... *shutters*

Anyways, I honestly don't believe she "tends" to at all... She might on occasions do so, like every actor, but honestly... Many people acclaim her as very serious actress, and that's the first time I've ever heard criticism about her acting, and that it was anything less than superb in her recent dramas. Just saying it is rather uncommon... Hmm.

I respect your opinion- just wanted to add in my two cents. :)

I have loved her since Bad Guy and then SKKS and then MoonSun - even in Baby Faced Beauty; I count myself as one of the fortunate ones who didn't watch Level 7 as I was busy at the time so I don't have any bad memories;

there is just something really awesome and engaging about her; i remember seeing her on an episode of Happy Together and her personality was just hilarious - apparently she was a gangster in school and beat up boys and like to swear; its such a contrast to her gentle looks i find it so very amusing.

i hope you guys recap at least the first few episodes! i love her and JW and MCW so I hope all the best for this drama!

yes, i also worried.. higher expectation = higher disappointment when the drama couldn't goes well.. ( reminds me to 7GCS, arrgg ). let's keep in faith to the writer. we have the best talents here, and their fate is on the hands of the writer now.

I've watched 3 of her dramas (Moon, Level 7, and Sungkyunkwan) and to be honest she didn't stand out for me. Except in Moon, though. She was amazing there, and she did outshine Han Gain.

I love the cast, I love the PD, I'm okay with the writer, but I'm afraid to get my hopes high :(. The theme is unique but I'm still not sure about the execution.

The worst scenario is: the plot is kind of 'weird', bad ratings, but still.. SOLID ACTING. These actors are no joke!
