Heirs adds Kang Haneul, Park Hyung-shik

Are you tired of hearing about Heirs yet? I know, I know, there’s been a lot of news, only it’s not really that much real news, and the drama’s still months off. I wouldn’t blame you if you were sick of Heirs already and it hasn’t even begun shooting yet.

But I’m not gonna lie, I’m so totally not in that camp, because this show is probably going to be my crack of the year. At least I hope so, since I’ve had a decidedly crack-deprived year thus far and I miss the high. Some shows have produced minor buzzy effects, but nothing in the realm of the full-on, heart-pounding, I-dream-of-potential-plot-developments-at-night brand of addiction that has you craving your next hit.

Okay, Imma stop talking like a scary junkie now and move on to Heirs, which already has a pretty shiny cast of beautiful, popular, and talented stars: Lee Min-ho, Park Shin-hye, Choi Jin-hyuk, Kim Woo-bin, and most recently Krystal. Now two more up-and-comers are in the mix, both with recent cable hits that have boosted their name recognition: Kang Haneul of Monstar and Park Hyung-shik of Nine and idol group ZE:A. (Kang Haneul is confirmed, Park Hyung-shik is not.)

This should be a great stepping stone for Kang Haneul, who will play the son of a police chief who is smart, handsome, and student body president. Soooo… just like his Monstar character? Granted, that’s not a bad type of character to reprise, since he’s currently fluttering hearts and winning over viewers as the smart, musically talented, all-around perfect Big Man On Campus. And while the Monstar character isn’t really doing it for me (I know, I tried, but his brand of disdainful hauteur keeps me from warming to him), he certainly is doing a good job in the role. As a bonus, it’s giving him lots of opportunities to show off his musical talents, which he honed first on the musical stage.

I thought Park Hyung-shik was a little green but promising in Nine, where he played the younger version of Lee Jin-wook’s time-traveling hero. He is reportedly in negotiations to work out his schedule with the show after receiving the offer and meeting with the writer. Time conflicts were supposedly why he dropped Master’s Sun recently, but Heirs will be a few months behind that show’s timetable. His would-be character is a chaebol heir, which, dur. They’re ALL heirs! That’s like saying there are rich people in Gossip Girl. Will they all have eyes and hair and speak, too?

Heirs will premiere in October.

I cant wait for this drama. Lee Min Ho! Choi Jin Hyuk! Kim Woo Bin! Yum. Although I have already found my drama crack of the year. A wonderful little drama called I Hear Your Voice. I am completely invested in IHYV. Lee Jong Seok is my new K-Drama go-to man.

cast is great but i really don't like this writers' works. i hope this time its different. (at least wont see middle aged men running around with bad acting) i can deal with good looking, good acting shallow characters.

Wow. I totally did not care for Heirs but now that Kang Haneul (who I'm totally fangirling over in Monstar) is attached, I might just glance at it briefly (because I still don't get the hype over Lee Minho and Park Shinhye :/)

This will probably my crack too. Too much eye candy! And I'm surely not hating that. I'm just wary of how the writing will go because I don't want to keep watching the show and hate at least 85% of what is happening (read: You're the Best, Lee Soon-shin). Heee.

Waahh, how many handsome actors do we have playing in this drama? Will they each get enough screen time? I want them all to have screen time 'cuz they are sooo friggin' hot.

I always thought Kang Haneul looks like a younger version of Choi Jin Hyuk. They hve the same face and body structure. Too bad they are not playing brothers.

Is it my imagination, or did I read up-stream that this drama is set in the US? Huh...? Wouldn't that require all the actors to be fluent English speakers? Why would they give it a US setting?

Also, I don't understand all the bitching and moaning about the writer's track record. She's had a number of certified hits, including SG, which by the time it ended, saw ratings upwards of 30%. Seems rather revisionist to rag on her skills as if she's some kind of rookie without a clue as to how to write a hit drama.

Secret Garden was my crack (and the only drama I currently own on DVD), and I enjoyed A Gentleman's Dignity, so I'm looking forward to checking this one out. I'm not a Lee Min Ho fan girl, but I do appreciate his talent. I love Park Shin Hye, and so appreciate both the talent and sheer pulchritude
of Choi Jin Hyuk, that I'm crossing my fingers for this drama. The high school, setting does give me pause, but I'm willing to withhold judgment just yet.

KES likes to use "exotic" locations in her dramas when she can (Prague, Paris, Jeju, Taiwan...). Since this one seems to have a comfortable budget, 1 or 2 eps partly shot in LA (Koreatown!) doesn't look a strange idea.
And I agree with you: She's all but a rookie. ;)

Unnnnf. I can't even remember the last time I loved a cast like this. Honestly even if.this drama does turn out to be a flop plotwise, I think I'd still check in every week just because I love this cast. Sigh...

I hope it's going to be as fun as You're Beautiful at least. Before I watched YAB I thought its premise was cliche and dumb, but after I saw it it's become one of my favorite dramas of all time just because it's so silly :D So anyway I hope Heirs goes all out because with a premise like this that's all you can do.

Lee Min-ho, Choi Jin-hyuk (~! set me on fire!!), Kim Woo-bin and Kang Ha-neul + AGD writer?! This could be one hot hot drama or a flaming mess. I hope there will be some well established moms and dads supporting the drama and bring out the best of the young arrogant heirs.

But hey, even if it turns like a mess, the saving grace will be the whole-lotta eye candy.

*Le sigh*...I generally like the writer and did enjoy watching Jang Dong Gun in "Gentlemen". It was light hearted and fun fluff. I really got excited about Kim Woo Bin because I heart him. Really! And Choi Jin Hyuk! But the list of other people being added is not making me feel very good about this. Aack! What I must put up with to see Kim Woo Bin on the small screen again!
