You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin: Episodes 39-40 [Open Thread]

I’m sick today, so I make no promises that this weecap will make an entire lot of sense. Not that this show has a history of lots of sense.

But you know, it’s not a bad set of episodes this weekend. I kinda finished the episodes thinking that it was much of the same — some cute, some tedious, some up and down, back and forth — but upon second thought there’s actually quite a lot of advancement. You might even squeal at some of them. Get your squeeing hats on! On second thought, don’t — who needs a hat that squees? You’ll be doing enough of that yourself.

Highlights

I don’t actually remember what happened for the majority of Episode 39, which I would chalk up to the sicky but for the fact that this is a pattern for this show.

Anyway. Yeon-ah pulls her PR stunt about dating Jun-ho (it’s one of those really thinly veiled announcements where his face is blurred out and no names are given, but everybody totally knows it’s him). He is NOT having it and orders her to issue a denial in the news, only she totally doesn’t and everyone congratulates them. Soon-shin is disheartened, sees this as a wake-up call to let go of her delusions, and pulls away from Jun-ho.

She sees the two of them at the One Restaurant To Rule the World, which hasn’t been featured a lot lately, too bad for Young-hoon who is totally getting shafted on screentime. Then she hurries out before she’s seen but I’m not nervous for her, because she and Jun-ho are totally wearing couple outfits so I know this is going to end in a good place.

But! I honestly had no idea it would get this good, this fast — not that Episode 39 of a 50-episode drama is fast, but still it feels sudden given their usual plodding speed — because Jun-ho totally follows her out and KISSES HER! O! M! G!

I had actually had visions of this show ending with Episode 50 with maybe a hug. A peck on the forehead if we were lucky. A chaste agreement between Soon-shin and Jun-ho to be boyfriend-girlfriend. I hadn’t even bothered to hope for a kiss, so already this show has gone above and beyond. (Well, first it went below and behind, but it’s back up from those lowered expectations.)

The setup is thus: Jun-ho sees her hurrying off and follows. She asks him not to be so nice to him because it confuses her feelings. He’s all, Omg what are you saying, and she blurts that she likes him and it hurts so stop it. Then he says in his emotionally shaky voice (love that voice), How much more of my heart do I have to show you?, hugs her, then kisses her. Then they are cute and happy and all is right with the world.

(Granted, Jun-ho hasn’t exactly been subtle about his emotions, but you do have to feel bad for Soon-shin, who is in love with the CEO of her company, who seems to be dating a top actress, who must feel it’s futile to harbor the crush.)

They spend the rest of Episode 40 shooting each other adorable looks and being both cutesy and awkward.

Soon-shin continues to impress at her drama, where she earns praise from the director and even the grudging sunbaes, who recognize that she has “it” and is doing really well for her first gig. Yeon-ah seethes. That’s a highlight, right?

Chan-woo and Yoo-shin get married. Chicken Ajumma spends the day with her insides twisted in knots. Everyone else is thrilled.

Chan-woo gets a new haircut and looks like a different person. A really hot person. Then he showers and it goes away and I am sad.

There’s a cute bit at the wedding where our men — no, boys, by which I mean Jun-ho and Bread Man — are standing together watching the family take photos. They overhear ajummas calling the sisters beautiful, and when Hye-shin is praised, Bread Man puffs up adorably. Then Soon-shin is praised and Jun-ho just beams with pride. It’s hilarious because they barely even have any claim to feel secondhand pride, but they do and it’s cute.

Soon-shin goes home and Grandma is the least hateful she’s been in months, although that means she’s still kind of hateful. But she says this confusing convoluted speech about how Mi-ryung had a terrible childhood and never grew up right because she didn’t have parents teaching her, and how she was full of ambition to better her life and now is this hotshot star. Grandma says this like it’s an insult. I think it’s kind of awesome, actually.

Then Grandma guesses that Soon-shin is having a hard time living with Mi-ryung, and sniffs, I told you so, and then adds that she can come home and live with them if she really needs to. It’s the weirdest passive-aggressive reasoning that makes me want to bark, “What do you want, Grandma? WHAT?”

But when all’s said and done, it’s the thing to bring Soon-shin around and finally open up the pathways of communication with Mi-ryung. All this while, Mi-ryung has been trying to play the part of the loving mom, but she has been doing the delusional thing of forcing the relationship, determined to have what the movies and fairy tales and books all describe. She is her own worst enemy, isn’t she?

And while I don’t blame Soon-shin for rebuffing Mi-ryung’s overbearing ways, she has been kind of teetering on the brink of brat-dom. It’s just got the potential to end really sadly all around if nobody changes something. So it’s a relief when Soon-shin lets up a little, and makes Mi-ryung breakfast, and agrees to do this mother-daughter CF with her.

I do think Soon-shin had to get her sulks out, because now Mi-ryung actually appreciates this and doesn’t take it for granted, and I almost feel heart-warmed by it. Okay, I am heart-warmed. Things are lookin’ up.

Lowlights

Hye-shin’s ex-husband comes back to Korea, and he’s a primo douchebag. He’s both immature and dictatorial, all, Are you still mad about the cheating thing? I only did it a little! and You should take better care of yourself. On one hand, Hye-shin barely gives him the time of day and orders him to leave every time he shows up, but on the other hand he’s so persistent and annoying that he won’t bother to consider her feelings.

He gets off on the wrong foot with Bread Man, who respectfully keeps his distance, and it’s a little satisfying to see that Hye-shin is still nice to Bread Man while ignoring her ex. I do hope that the ex’s appearance will be the thing to push her to realize how she feels about Bread Man, because they’re sweet and all but SO SLOW. Even slower than Jun-ho and Soon-shin, and left to their own devices it would take them for-e-vah to do anything about their feelings. If ever.

Jun-ho’s mother kicks Dr. Shin out of the house, accusing him of cheating with Mi-ryung. What’s interesting about this is that Dr. Shin feels completely aboveboard about his interactions with her, and I almost believe that he has no interest in stepping out on the marriage. I do think he shows glimmers of interest NOW, but that’s after his wife puts that idea in his head.

Then Jun-ho’s mother goes to Mi-ryung, who is equally startled to be accused of going after her man. There’s no cheating going on, so Jun-ho’s mother is the only one who’s frantic and upset about it all. She relents and tells Dr. Shin to move back home because she’ll give him one chance, but he’s no longer interested in coming back home — he wants to live alone in his one-bedroom for a while, unencumbered by her histrionic reactions to everything. It’s a little harsh but not totally untrue.

All the while, Yeon-ah is fanning the flames of discord, WHO KNOWS WHY, whispering into Mom’s ear and pushing her toward confrontation. Don’t you have enough problems of your own to attend to? Ugh. She’s so terrible. I assume it’s because she’s miffed at both Soon-shin and Mi-ryung and wants to ruin them, but it’s all so juvenile and irrational.

Young-hoon even calls her out for it, but she’s all, Hmph! You think that’s bad? I can do worse! And both Young-hoon and I are all, Uh, I wouldn’t brag about that.

But that’s what second leads do, I suppose.

So Yeon-ah brings Mom to the CF shoot, which is for Dr. Shin’s clinic, featuring Mi-ryung and Soon-shin. Yeon-ah is such an evil wench. Imagine what she could accomplish if she used her powers for good, or neutral. Then Mom gets angry at Dr. Shin for being here — even though her husband is at work, at his own CF, and totally not out of line for being here — and slaps him in front of everybody.

I’m sending feeble mental slaps Yeon-ah’s way, but this bug is totally inhibiting my telepathic powers. Maybe next week.

1. The writer doesn't seem to understand that if JH is unable to make LSS understand that he loves her, given all the access he has to her, it makes JH look weak and incompetent, and LSS look stupid. But then there is a lot that this writer doesn't understand.

2. The restaurant manger tells YA to give up already. She has she hasn't lost either JH or MR and that she'll get both back. She is quite like MR that way, isn't she?

3. YA has the largest grin when JH's mother slaps his father. That's her move to block their relationship.

4. The OTP now knows abt each other's affection, after only 40 whole eps. Next step, JH's otherwise timid mother raising hell to object to them! Boohoohoo!

@KDaddict

1. Blame it entirely on the inept writer and PD for choosing to portray SJH and LSS in such a pathetic light.

2. I agree with you 100% - which was probably why they clicked...birds of a feather flock together

3. I literally shivered **shudders** when I saw that evil grin...once again, her happy-at-others'-unhappiness-as-a-result-of-her-evil-actions radar is at work...

4. Yup! ANOTHER round of mother-going-berserk. Seconds, anyone? Definitely not me, thank you very much.

3. I think it's more than her being happy at others' misery.
She is the one who plods JH's mother on. She wants to drive a wedge between JH's mom and MR, and thereby between JH and SS.

It seems that the writer/s has/have issues with mother/s...every mother in this drama seems to go through a "crazy" phase...are the writers venting their frustrations via this drama? YA is the only one who's not a mom but is plain crazy!!!

1 is right and too kind. Script says JH successfully runs talent agency. This takes smarts about people and power. Yet, JH is such a moron that he makes a date with girl he is smitten with then blows her off to be with YH who has obviously been picking on LSS, is transparently manipulating him saying things that make no sense and that only a moron would fall for. Then he does not follow up with LSS even though he is smitten?! Not in the human universe.

It is great LSS has the courage to humiliate herself by confessing but any man who would let the woman he is smitten with humiliate herself is trash who doesn't deserve the girl. Then he tops it off by blaming her for not getting his clues. Not cute. Dumb and Dumber. The Kiss doesn't cure the Stupid.

Does most the audience just fast forward between kisses and ignore what the players actually do and say?

Have you posted your comment without bothering to read any of the comments posted by the commenters on what we do when we watch this drama, as well as, what we think of how the writer and PD of this drama have turned this drama from one with so much promise and potential to one that is full of nonsensical and illogical plot and characterisations?

If you had bothered to do so, then you would realise that your question is superfluous and redundant.

Nothing you have said in this comment of yours is new because so many commenters have said the exact same thing using different words and phrasing.

May I suggest that the next time you wish to shoot your arrows to check your target, which should be the writer and PD.

THE AUDIENCE DID NOT CREATE THE MESS THAT YOU HAVE MENTIONED.

So, kindly get off your high horse and get off the audience's back.

I read comments here that JH was not weak on this very post. Perhaps I should have gotten off my high horse and fast forwarded by those comments. Then I would agree with you and would not give specifics for this episode that have not been mentioned.

You have totally missed my point in my earlier comment.

You are entitled to your opinion about the drama but you should have focused on blaming the writer/PD for how they choose to portray the depths and breadths of the characters in this drama instead of shooting your arrow at the audience and questioning how we choose to watch this drama. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO QUESTION WHAT THE AUDIENCE CHOOSE TO DO OR HOW THE AUDIENCE CHOOSE TO WATCH THE DRAMA.

To each his own. You wish to view this drama from your perspective. Well, so do we. But bear in mind that how we choose to view this drama does not in any way signify that we are blind, deaf, stupid or crazy. In fact, it is the exact opposite, if you care to read carefully the comments written about everything that has gone wrong with this drama.

But if we choose to focus only on what is good about the drama (which is sadly very little), that does not give you the right to QUESTION why we do it.

0

Koreandramalover.

I did miss your point. i was unaware of the authority you have expressed in caps and find it incredible. I am surprised that you speak for we. I can't even speak for what I will think tomorrow. But given this authority I see why it is irrelevant that you ignore my point and this is nowhere for the likes of me who is interested in what is actually on the screen and why it works or doesn't with the audience. I submit to your authority and even get a kick out of what it does to the deconstructionists out there.

So long. Have a good life.

I do have a good life, all thanks and praises be to God.

You have a good life too.

I skipped ep 39, and just watched ep 40.

Today there is nothing to watch, so I went back and caught up on ep 39. In it I see that JH actually skipped out on SS to go see YA when YA called to say there was an emergency. And the next day, he kept mum on the whole matter, after news of his supposed relationship w YA broke. He told YA to straighten it out w the press, but he explained NOTHING to SS, who's down in the dumps.

He stood there and wondered HOW the scandal came about! And he is the CEO of a talent agency, who should be quite privy to how the business works.

Yes, we finally get a kiss. But it would have been sweeter if it had been arrived at thru some initiative on JH's part, instead of his inaction which made SS miserable thru the whole of ep 39.

@KDaddict

I understand fully your feelings about how JH's characterisation is just one proof of how lacking the writer/PD are in crafting this whole story/drama.

If we were to list all that is wrong with the characterisations in this drama (and they are too many to count), we would just end up feeling totally and paralysingly angry, frustrated, fed-up, bitter and essentially cause us to be in a foul mood for as long as we ponder over them.

It is bad enough that the drama is riddled with so many wrong, stupid, nonsensical, illogical, insane stuff that we can endlessly lament and rant over. So why add to our misery by trying to deconstruct such a drama to try to make sense of it all when most of what the writer/PD have produced in this drama MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE? ;)

The way I see it is, why try to fix something that is so broken to begin with? We would just be making things worse and end up feeling rotten and unhappy because we would just be going round in futile circles because we are just trying to fix the symptoms, not the root of the problem - the work done by the drama writer and PD.

I have to come to the point that I just want to feel happy with the little happy stuff offered by the OTP and just obliterate the rest of the stuff from my mind. And all is right with the world. ;)

I think it's the fact that JH *is* such a moron when it comes to his personal life that makes his character more lovable. His dorkiness is endearing. Though it's fiction, there are real-life successful people who can't get dating right. Have you ever heard of Millionaire Matchmaker? Yeah, like that :)

I owe Jun-ho an apology...I flicked him in the head at the end of episode 39. But in my defense I totally thought that the few seconds of standing still, after the girl you love gives you and opportunity so big you could fall through...was going to be another one of those "staring awkwardly as she walks away" moments. So Jun-ho I sincerely apologize, for my quick tempered-ness (yeah I know it's not a word, but totally works). Also thank you for finally opening your mouth. I appreciate.

it's not about having 'nothing that says' guys have to take the first step.

it's about us expecting SJH to be braver than LSS to take that first step! makes him seem so weak and unlike his character honestly...

But why are people expecting SJH to be braver than LSS?

I don't see it as him being weak. I think they were both ready to confess, and then Yeonah got in the way and interrupted it all.

Junho took care of that first – he was true to his feelings (he would have been weak if he had bowed to Yeonah).

To me, SJH and LSS both seem like rather inexperienced and shy in love, SJH did have a relationship with Yeonah before but we all know how that ended and how hurt he was... so I can understand him treading lightly. LSS hasn't had any relationship as far as we know, so she's of course going to be hesitant as well. She did say the "I like you" words first, but I don't see it so much as a confession (conscious making up your mind you'll tell the person you like how you feel about them), but rather bursting out in despair how she was feeling. They could have equally written Junho running after her, and shouting "Don't go, I like you", because to me they were both very level at the point.

I don't know, I also think that because Junho is the one in a position of greater power BUT also with a great sensitivity towards Soon Shin (worrying so much about how things could hurt her), that confessing is just something he wouldn't do unless he were sure she would be okay with it.

I've only skipped-watched the last 10-15 episodes, so maybe I'm reading him incorrectly, but I don't think it weakens his character having been confessed to. Plus, he seals it with a kiss. :-D

0

@alua,
See Brain's comment in #25.

0

i agree with alua with this one. to me, SJH has already done more than enough to show his feelings for LSS. I know its one thing to show it and another to actually say it but for me, rather than SJH's verbal confession, it was even more necessary to see LSS match whatever SJH has shown so far, an open admittance to her feelings for him did that. Note I didn't use the word confession cause I never really saw it as one, she never wanted an answer. In fact, it sounded more like she was saying goodbye. In her mind, the guy she fell in love with was too good for her, not to mention in love with someone else, so her resolve was to back off and try her hardest to get over it, but of course she can't do that if he's always around. So it was actually more of a stay-away-from-coz-i-like-you-and-you-wont-have-that kind of admittance.

Also, my guy friends mentioned before that most of the time (if not all), they will only court a girl when they feel they have a chance with her at all (and thus, flirting was invented!lol). But thing with our couple is, our main girl is so inexperience in love and relationships that she doesn't read the signals well (remember the coffee and every other thing SJH did to get her attention?) and more than that, she doesn't know how to deal with it. That's why SJH is always taking one step forward and 2 steps back with her. It may sound cowardly but that's how most guys are--well, asian guys. at least.

and yes, the man earned my respect by not giving in to YA's evil schemes!way to go, Jun-ho! :)

0

@KDaddict and @thorned sakura

I think it's going to be a matter of agreeing to disagree, since very obviously some people are seeing it as Junho being weak, and others not at all.

I think I'm just thankful for the writers not doing the giving-in-to-the-manipulations on the part of Junho, because that is done in too many dramas.

I guess they realised that it would be inconsistent with the character, because Junho already rejected Yeonah before (when she gave him that ultimatum), but I still wasn't 100% counting on it, since the writers haven't been very consistent with character development overall...

JH: I like you.

NO, it's not a contest. It's just that he has been interested in her for such a L---O---N---G time, and given the power distribution in this relationship, and his daily access to her, it feels long and drawn out and he feels weak and incompetent for not having confessed.

Thing is, despite him being LSS's company's ceo, she has always directed their relationship coz SJH has always acted as her support. So I felt it was a good change to show LSS being the vulnerable one in their relationship by admitting her feelings to him first. I don't really see it as a confession as she didn't really expect SJH to respond to her. It was just her being honest, like what CW advised her.

Besides, SJH is better in acting out his feelings rather than saying it (still can't get over the kiss! Kyaaa)

Yes! I agree totally with what u said abt LSS. She did the gutsy thing n confessed despite the possibility of rejection. She was just stating a fact n being totally honest even after the publicity stunt by YA tt linked YA to JH. LSS was probably totally expecting JH to reject her bcos when JH whirled her around n hugged her, then the whole time JH was trying to express his feelings in his swoon-worthily-trembling voice n super-rxoressiveher shock was registered in her wide eyes.

And YES!! SJH is a typical male - more adept with actions than words.

And THE KISS!!!!! Heart-stopping, swoon-worthy, bone-melting!!!

Then THE AFTER-KISS!!

JJS's hands, fingers and most important HIS EYES!! aaaahhhh.....

When he stopped the kiss, he soooo slowly, soooo tenderly n soooo gently moved apart but KEPT EYE CONTACT with IU...AND HIS EYES!! aaaahhh....

He looked at IU to check if she was ok with the HOT lip smack n when IU shyly looked at him n then dropped her head on his shoulder, JJS's tender smile n fingers n finally THE HUG!!!! aaahhhh...

Perhaps the MOST HEART-WARMING HUG EVER in Kdrama history.
Both JJS n IU HUGGED EACH OTHER SO TIGHTLY AND WARMLY!!!!

I think I watched this whole wonderful moment 50 times!!!!

Either JJS n IU are really good at pretending or they really hv feelings for each other. I wont be surprised if they do fall for one another.
So many real couples fell for each other when they acted together. ;)

0

Oops! Mistake frm using smartphone.

1st para 2nd last line :

super-expressive eyes n facial muscles, her shock was registered....

0

YES!!! So glad you mentioned the eye contact. I don't recall any other dramas I've watched where the eye contact between the leads was that good.

@ koreandramalover/kdl/kay

OMG kay!!! since you're just as over analytical about this couple as I am, did you notice the thumb swiping thing he did? You know, when he was going to kiss LSS, he guided LSS 's chin towards him by having it rest on the gap between the thumb and the fingers, while cupping her head with his hands, then when their lips met, he slowly swept his thumb back to the other side of her face, caressing her chin in the process! OOOHHHH MMMMYYY GGGGAAAAHHHDDDD, just thinking about it is making me blush!waaaah

And his hands---OMG!!! Someone mentioned before about his hands being big, but OMG! You can totally tell just by looking that he has a very firm grip, very adept for sweeping all us fangirls off our feet! And the way they intertwined with LSS's hair was sooo...sexy!

Then, when LSS did react to the kiss, she actually leaned forward and deepened the kiss. I've been telling myself over and over that it was JUST A LIP SMACK. but even THAT stirs up things, especially when both of you are doing the lip pressing!

And when he looked at LSS after the kiss--there was so much uncertainty, so much vulnerability in those eyes, I wanted to hug him and tell him everything's going to be alright!

When LSS retreated shyly to his shoulders, I was there, I felt all those overwhelming feelings with her--happiness, relief, shyness. And when he did hug her---OMG! kay, I second your thoughts on this being the sweetest, warmest, overall BEST hug ever in Kdramaland history! I was literally feeling all giddy with them!

About them falling for each other, that will be sad if that were true (which I'm guessing it is, on one level or another) coz there's practically no chance for them being together. i just heard that some koreans are actually kinda bashing IU for this scene (just because of her previous scandal) which is a bit confusing, they complain when the love lines aren't developing, but complain as well when the couples are getting cozy. I guess this is one reason why the production was kinda tiptoeing their way on this loveline. So they would have to part ways after this show and if they like each other, that would hurt so bad and I don't want JJS getting hurt!Unless, of course, I was there to make it all better for him!Kyaaa~~~

0

Thank you koreandramalover/kdl/kay for your analysis of the kiss. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's doing that. HAHAHA. EVERYTHING about that scene was just so hot, yet sweet. AIGOO.

0

@thorned sakura ;)

I had to rewatch the thumb-swiping that you mentioned cos I missed it the first 50 times I rewatched this whole first-kiss-that-is-wonderful-beyond-imagination moment...and I totally agree with you, of course!! hehehe!! Sooooo heart-stoppingly sexy thumb-swiping indeed!! hehehe!!

We ARE obsessed with analysing every single detail of the couple moments of SJH and LSS (or JJS and IU), aren't we? hehehe!!!

But who can blame us, right, when the chemistry between JJS and IU are so off-the-charts-explosive!! hahaha!! ;)

And I TOTALLY, ABSOLUTELY AGREE with you with everything you said in your comment above IU pulling herself CLOSER to JJS during the kiss and about JJS's on-the-verge-of-tears-oh-so-vulnerable-looking-eyes after the SUPER-HOT FIRST KISS!!! I am a VERY HAPPY viewer!!! hehehe!!

As for negative comments on drama couples becoming real couples, I agree that it is a mindfield...but I don't care what others have to say about two actors falling in love for real and creating their happily-ever-after lives because I just love to see people fall in love and be happy forever... ;)

But if JJS does get hurt, you definitely HAVE to rush to his side and comfort him the best way you know how and make him smile his contagious smiles for always, ok? hehehe!! It would break my heart to know JJS is broken-hearted...so you HAVE to mend his heart and make it all better, promise? Cos I can't since I am already taken, and what with me living all the way over here in Singapore....hehehe... ;)

0

@Rach

Thank you for appreciating my little-girl-let-loose-in-the-candy-shop-squeeeeing over THE-FIRST-KISS-TO-KISS-ALL-OTHER-FIRST-KISSES-INTO-OBLIVION!! hehehe!! ;)

Glad to know I am not alone with my squeeeeing!! hehehe!! ;)

0

@Meahri

Yes!! EYE CONTACT!! The eyes are the windows to the soul, as the saying goes. So, I pay particular attention to the eyes, especially considering it is part of my job to do so when I face my clients/patients at work...

the EYES do say so much, if NOT everything...

and JJS's eyes especially are just so expressive, I am so blown away by how much emotion he can project with those large, almond-shaped, lovely eyes of his.. ;)

0

@koreandramalover/kdl/kay

Waaah...I'm sooo happy I have you to share crazy fangirl moments with, especially with the thumb swiping . Then there's the thumbing through her hair the second he broke the kiss! Seriously, how can this guy do so much, express so much with just a thumb?!JJS and his ridiculously talented thumb will be the death of me!

On second thought, it's not just the thumb, it's his whole body! I bet his stomach can express love if he wills it! Lol

0

@thorned sakura

I completely agree with you on how expressive JJS is with his whole body... ;)

I notice how his fingers and hands did not, not even for a moment, left IU's hair and shoulders after the kiss...he let them linger and slide to IU's shoulders and then his fingers thread through IU's hair again so gently when he pulled IU close for the WARMEST, SWEETEST, MOST SQUEE-WORTHY HUG EVER!!! aaaahhhh... ;)

0

@thorned sakura ;)

I too am beyond grateful that you are more than willing to put up with my fangirling over JJS, and entertaining me so much with YOUR fangirlingness...hehehe...

After all, what is life if not about savouring every morsel of the happy, cute, darling, warm, squee-worthy moments that come our way, right?

There can never be too much happiness, which is why I focus only on those moments between JJS and IU as the main leads of this drama despite there being cute and happy stuff from the other actors.

Simply because JJS and IU together give me so so much happy, cute, darling, warm and squee-worthy moments that I am satisfied just watching them. ;)

Now that they have cleared the air about their feelings for each other, I am SO HAPPY and looking forward to their EVEN MORE happy, cute, darling, warm and squee-worthy moments together...;)

that is if the writer/PD do not go berserk and choose to try to pull the OTP apart through the old and tired mother-going-berserk routine and LSS's birth-father turning out to be someone who may/can derail the romance between the OTP in one way or another...siiiiigghhh...

From what this writer has come up with so far, I am not holding out hope that the OTP will be ALLOWED to enjoy much happy, cute, darling, warm, squee-worthy moments in the near future, after almost a whole episode of those moments in episode 40, esp considering how the episode ended...siiiiggghhh....

Be warned! Angsty-moments right ahead! Brace ourselves!!

I don't mind the angst as long as they go through it together. I mean, it took them sooo long to reach this stage in their relationship, they can't just back off because of one stupid misunderstanding. A misunderstanding that is, by the way, orchestrated by the vilest creature whose name we don't dare speak of *hushed tones*.

So, yeah, let he mom wars begin (again)! But this time, let them face it together. This might even help strengthen their relationship (my god, I'm talking like they're an actual couple! Lol).

0

@thorned sakura

I agree that whatever that life (or in this case, the vilest creature that shall not be named) has to throw at the OTP, should help them grow closer and stronger together. What does not kill them should make them stronger, right?

That is, if the writer/PD choose to portray them in that way but from their penchant in portraying the worst of the makjang that the world has to offer and utterly nonsensical, purposeless and aimless meanderings in this drama, I am not optimistic that we are going to see our OTP be spared the worst of the makjang-angsty-evil-merry-go-round...

I just hope the writer/PD has at least the common sense to allow the OTP to be together to face whatever that comes their way and make everything right in their world... ;)

0

I'm just hoping the writer doesn't go the route of JH's father deciding to get with LSS's real mother rendering JH + LSS's relationship impossible. Although the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised.

I also love the cute, and was happy to see some very adorable interaction between the OTP during eps 40.

0

@Korazy Lady

You read my mind! I absolutely agree that with this writer, I am not holding out hope for anything good for the OTP any time soon...arrgghhh...

And you are so right about the adorable interaction between the OTP!! I am still squeeeing over the cute and adorable from them!!! ;)

It is the ONLY thing that I am look out for in this drama ;)

Yoo Shin was such an interesting char in the beginning. This writer, in all her glorious wisdom, decided to dumb her down when she fell in love w Chan Woo, and turn her into a subservient DIL in training. She and Chan Woo could have won a lot more love from viewers if their arc was written more decently.

I'd really like for characters with bad/difficult personalities to get handled better. Writers keep trying to write them in and give them a story arc that 'changes' them or 'shows the soft underbelly' but most get of the time it just boils down to 'so and so is an prickly egotist, notwithouttheirreasonsmindyou, who is softened and, if female, almost entirely disempowered by lurve.'
Ugh. Or you get characters like Yeon-ah. Double ugh.

If she really moves into the family house... honestly, I think it is totally out of character for her to do that.

Given how she was, I would have thought she'd be the kind of person to move into a flat shared just with her husband.

They have got the means to do it as well.

It's just a weird turn of things (plus, did they getting married like super-fast?).

Required fields are marked *

i think they did mean to do that, only they are staying at CW's house while they are saving up for their own. Also, she agreed to it so her bratty mother in law won't have anything bad to say about her, plus she does admit that she needs to learn some home management stuff before they move to live on their own. I'm reading this as her being mature and compromising for their marriage, which to me is ok.

Also, it's practical. Remember, it wasn't that long before CW got released from NS and worked under Dr. Shin's clinic , plus he just bought a car. YS on the other hand, gave all her savings to her family after her dad died. So, it may take a while to build up a fund coz even if you're going to get a house on a loan, there is still the deposit to take care of.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I still think it's out of character.

Yoo Shin isn't going to be the one cooking dinner for her husband every night. Her "needing to learn home management"... well, how about Chan Woon? Does he know how to do these things? (If yes, she doesn't need to learn, or can learn from him. If no, he needs to learn too... unless they want to make Yoo Shin the obedient wifey character, which she was certainly not written as at the beginning.)

They've got two stable, well-paying full-time jobs. That gives you enough money to rent a place of your own. There is a deposit for that, but if they needed to save up, they could sold the car/downgraded it for something less fancy (because that was a I've-got-money-car). Or they could have waited with marrying for another month or two... (I though the whole wedding was rushed – not them wanting to get married, but organising it all so quickly?).

It's not that I'm opposed to her moving in with Chan Woo's family, I just don't think that it fits how her character was written initially, which was as very independent. The whole bowing to the Chan Woo's mom by suddenly wearing long skirts didn't fit IMO – but that's when they suddenly started changing her character.

0

Required fields are marked *

Regarding the skirt-wearing, I didn't think it fit either. But after that scene, she was all grumpy and mumbling about why she felt the need to please the mom so I forgave her.hehe

Also, I did remember her mentioning to CW that they'll both be out the whole day anyway so it's not like his mom will have the chance to make her do anything!Plus, they won't be there on the weekends so literally no chance at all!Lol

Anyway, since you did mention it, I was wondering about that wedding too! Of course, I don't know about wedding preparations in Korea but considering the number of guest that I saw in their ceremony, it wasn't a small scale one. If it was small scale, I could understand the short prep time (Heck, some people I know don't even bother with the ceremonies and just hand in the signed docs!lol). I'm not saying it was grand, but it still looked liked they had about 100 guest all in all!A wedding of that scale would require at least 3 months of prep time!

Required fields are marked *

I was mostly thinking along the lines of "Did Yooshin even introduce her fiance to all (any?) of her friends?", given the amount of time before the wedding?

Since she was totally keeping him secret before... Plus, the preparation time needed for that kind of wedding (since the families involved aren't that rich to hire someone to do it all for them).

From the skirt changing point on, it almost seems like a different writer took over, and she is not even the same character anymore.

The whole "Only wedding hall available for decades" excuse is pretty lame compared to real life. I actually went to the effort (why?? I dunno..) to dig up the stats on Korean weddings, and only like 4% of marriages actually use a wedding hall. Another 5% or so use a small church, outdoor, or other venue. The reason of course is money - to throw one like in this show would probably cost something like $35,000 to $60,000 - a sum that most of the family involved don't really have. (but then they can borrow from the money lenders, and then spend 22 years running from the debt collectors..) :(

Almost 90% never have a formal wedding ceremony, or have just a very small one with a few close relatives. The vast majority simply register the marriage at the local guvment office (which is in fact what I did in Japan) with no real ceremony at all.

My point exactly!

There was also something else that bothered me. I think this was on last weekend's episode but YS' s mom mentioned about getting a bank loan to buy them a house. What was she going to use as a collateral? Their house? But that not even under her name!

Anyway, it's trivial and she could just be jesting at that time but since we're talking about wedding inconsistencies, I just thought of sharing too.

0

Finally someone says something about YS's storyline. YS's manta was 'I'm never going to get married, I'm going to be a career woman and be independent'. Her total 360 degree change after going out with CW just to please her MIL is so unlike her personality and is a bit hard to swallow. I was actually interested in seeing how her arc will develop but OH WELL.

I'm going to outright BAN the dramas that this writer is participating in after this. Seriously. So much potential with this cast and the writer just totally ruined it with all that ahjumma chicken fights and shouting matches.

I second everything you said, Rach^^!! ;)

I am going to actively look our for this writer's name in future projects and run a million miles away from them!! hehehe!! ;)

Seriously, with superbly talented actors in JJS, the legendary actor playing SJH's father, the actress playing LSS's mother and even the actress playing MR, along with IU, the writer/PD came up with such drivel....

even the cute and squee-worthy moments between the OTP cannot save the show because there are so little of them, and EVERY TIME they happen, the writer/PD gleefully blew them to smittereens with the endless makjang galore...

and so we are only allowed to enjoy tiny morsels of happy interspersed with gigantic, so over-the-top, completely insane and purposeless chunks of crap...

arrrrgghhh!!!!!

One of the few things about these characters that seemed believable to me was that YS , as Modern woman, wants the right to eldest son responsibilities to family and in the world while being feminine. She likes Chan Woo because he is a good eldest son. it is like a modern arranged marriage where the couple self arrange the marriage. The physical attraction part seems tepid at best. Like two closeted actors. And YS is jealous of LSS being mom's favorite so is mean to LSS but also will be protector of LSS outside family. That's believable. Ordinary sibling stuff.

YS always seemed type cast to me. So I assume that in real life Actress would eat shit from a mother in law because that comes with the family role that matters to her and she wants and she would have conflicts between career demands and family demands and try to meet both while being cute and feminine. Foolish choices to me but seem real. But the script just turns this type casting mother lode of dramatic conflicts into a muddled dog's breakfast of cliches. The real life 30 plus actress has a will of steel behind the cute but the YS character in the script is just blah. What a waste.

i don't like LSS choice of clothes though. she's always wearing something flowery or with crochet or lace, and pairing shorts (or berms!) with heels. i finally like something she wore - that dress to Yoo Shin's wedding seems less vintage-y and the best so far :D

2. I was SO HAPPY when I saw the couple outfits! I've never actually been grateful for them before, but I knew it meant I should expect positive developments way sooner than I'd thought.

3. I know Mrs Shin is a shallow, melodramatic woman (er, one of the many, and does anyone else feel like the show kind of expects us to sympathise with her?) but on the other hand I feel like it was a pretty douchey move on Dr Shin's part to go and call Mi-Ryung out for drinks after his wife kicks him out. Hope you don't mind me saying so but your swipes at the drama when you're unwell is even cuter than normal.

I've become resigned to the totally bad parts of the drama. Therefore let me focus on the kiss. EPIC.

No, not like the hot, eating face type but the total sweetness of it. Thank god the PD directed it letting the characters breathe. It was sweet. And like JB I was thinking this show was going nowhere with the love line and stay chaste.

On a Jo Jung Seok note- omg, that guy. His kisses are lethal. Did you guys notice his hands and fingers? I don't care how much you all swoon over " insert actor A or B or C etc" this guy kisses genuinely.
Hot hot HOT!! I mean the moments AFTER the kiss. Physical intimacy is sometimes more meaningful than the act itself.

Hahaha...hanakimi was a hot mess indeed, but oguri shun there was just hot.period.
(for some reason, my father loved that show!lol)

Anyway, I loved what he did to his character in rmpw! Did you watch the special as well?those two leads are one of those pairing where you hardly see any skinship, but just totally works!

0

Haha at the time I watched it as it aired and enjoyed the ridiculousness for the comedy. But yea him being in it was my main motivator even if he barely did anything!

I thought he was a little wasted in Hana Yori Dango too. Loved that show though haha.

Yes! I loved the special! Both actors know how to do so much with so little interaction. Just them having a conversation could be heightened in just how they looked at each other. And OS was great with his character's arc and just- how do you make such an eccentric character so endearing and adorable?! I'm seriously sad it was just a special because I'll miss those two on my screen!

0

Oh, he makes anything adorable...except maybe for his role in smile? Lol...I can say he does eccentric characters really well...gives them depth.

I saw him first in gto and was really psyched when I found out he was playing the lead in hanakimi coz apart from it being one of my fave mangas of all time, he's not very keen into taking lead roles (just like jjs)!

But even in his lesser acclaimed shows, or at least those shows that weren't so interesting to me, his delivery of his character was still superb and noteworthy!

Plus, he did some voice acting for one of my most beloved anime--full metal!waaah

Oh, he's like the only actor who convinced me to watch a renzoku drama, in the same way that jjs is the only actor who made me watch a family kdrama! Lol

Seriously, those two are my favorite character actors ever!!!

0

Lol I never watched Smile. But I agree! He definitely knows how to shine in hi roles!

I didn't know he voice acted in Full Metal. Interesting haha. I never really watched the anime but the random episodes I did I liked.

Lol kudos to you for that I can't say I've ever watched a renzoku. Not sure I have the attention span for it!

0

oh, i never followed it! I just watch the scenes where he's at! :) Lucky for me, I had a boyfriend who willingly pointed out those scenes for me!lol

As for the full metal gig, i think it was an ova or movie and not the actual series. I'm not sure if you're keen on anime, but if you are, do watch it.I swear, it's really one of the best I've seen! :)

0

Oh yes, the hands! So strong yet so gentle... Did you notice his thumb swiping? That did it for me!

And despite it actually being nothing more that a long smack on the lips, his delivery was so good and powerful. He was actually able to protect his lead counterpart without having to sacrifice the emotion required for the scene.Seriously, this guy can do no wrong.

some of the global viewers still doesnt cure properly after the confession scene and cuteness afterwards. hope you get well soon JB. and we have a JJS fever (totally deep fall in love). this show maybe lousy but the OTP has the most amazing chemistry ever. they really make this show bearable. for the record YTBLSS Soompi thread has reach 1000 pages and thats really rare consider its a weekend drama. all because of JJS and IU. and the confession scene i love it when SS confess first and how her crush on CW wrap up nicely when he give her brotherly advice to be brave and confess to her new love.
i dont think JH doesnt act manly. its because SS couldnt help it anymore and blurt it out. after that he is brave enough to carry it to the next level by that kiss. the shaking tone and pleading eyes is so beautiful and JJS nailed that scene. IU also pour more emotion on that scene that seem like they really love each other. i also like how a single tears fall after he hug her.

Still can't get over the fact that SS confessed first and it only ttok her 4 episode ! Way to go girl ! if we waited for JH 60 episode later and he'll never confess !
JH man up ! MAN UP !!

When JH was confessed to and he was standing looking at her leaving without moving , in those 10second i 've done the thing that i've never done before i actually screamed at my screen " you dumba** move your a**" and when he walked i was bewitched by that slow confident walk JJS have done .

*fangirl mode on*

after he hugged her , the look on his face , he was actually dying , it's as if his inside out are torn !
( god , i remember that feeling when the person you like for so long like you back , goood ) and his voice Kkkk ! I love that actor ! Really really love him

To be fair , IU did a freaking good job , the way she was looking at him , will make any man weak on the knee , if JH didn't kiss her at that moment i would have really slapped him !!

And i was unsure of the kiss scene ever happening , was losing all hope for this couple , it took me by surprise ! and actually it was a freaking amazing cute heart warming scene loved every second of it !

Don't montion the after hug it killed me Freaking cute !

The 3 first minute of episode 40 are the best moment in all those freaking 40 episode !
I wonder if the writer did more cute scene , would i be still sane ?

Love how i can make a whole conversation with their facial expression
Like whe IS interrupted their moment JH was ' what the **are you doing' and SS ' the heck since when do you care about me leave me alone i want some time alone with my boyfriend' ( i'm feeling dizzy just by writing it)

And JH :let's go together SS: together ?! JH: Blabla SS god was he this cute ? JH: do i really have to say it ?

Seriously i don't remember shipping couple like i do with them ! The drama is slow , the plot is a bit annoying , the B or the Bs is/ are insane and need medical care ! And the granma oh the granma ... the friends.. oh wait i don't see any .. but i'll remember this drama for the Shinshin couple !

Next weekend i need at least 30min of Shinshin in which we have a date and sending her home and calling JH oppa ( kyaaaaaaa) and the chessy 'you hang up first , no you first' and SS actually hang up xD leaving JH :O

Dear writer give me those two actors and i'll write the drama !

Thank you for the recap ! at least i'm not still that mad at the grama i thought she said something meaner to SS !!

thanks for the recap. watching w/o subs when you don't know the language so well can be tough, at times (not so much with this show since there's not a lot of nuance) so I appreciate your efforts. I am a fan of your writing style, as a rule, but your sickness has a wry, unfiltered humor I got a kick out of. Hope you feel better soon, but I enjoyed this one.

Javabeans: Thanks for much for the weecap and take your vitamin C and get better soon!

Wow a lot of commentators have hit is right on the spot. The writer has written the characters in such a way as to make them look imbecilic and forgetful of what they said just a few episodes before. I guess I can sorta forgive granny as maybe she is undergoing early senility with her "just go Soon Shin, no stay, wait no go, you're not part of the family, no wait, why did you go, now you're not part of the family...."

All the writer had to do was concentrate on the characters, get inside them and try to figure out how they think about things and this drama could have written itself, without all of the phony drama that occurred from the dumbing down of the characters.

For instance -- Soon Shin's relationship with Jun Ho -- he is the President and resident big shot of her company, he comes from an impeccable background and is way above her. Just the insecurity at that thought would be enough to hold her back, even without her birth secret. Ironically, due to Yeon Ah's silly interventions they have actually gotten together a lot faster and easier than without. Oh well, maybe the writer likes things like that.

This week's 2 episodes weren't as bad as the past ones that were quite unbearable at some point.... For this week, I found, that as long as you fast forward all the affair-not-an-affair stuff and all of Hye Shin's stuff then it's still watchable n.n The only beef I had with this week's episodes is that it didn't have enough of Young Hoon oppa :( And no, sadly our Pabo Couple doesn't make up for it, cuz Young Hoon oppa is a scene stealer in and of himself n.n Kudos to K
Lee Ji Hoon (1979) ^.^

I was dreading the kiss would be something like "Heartstrings" and couldn't contain myself when it ended up being so much more (I've been squeeing since the RAW episode was uploaded).

And I too am on the JJS bandwagon. LUV, LUV, LUV him when he's awkward cause it just makes him more adorable.

Javabeans, I gotta say I love all the color in your recaps. I'm pretty sure I'd read anything you write. You totally rock! Feel better!!

I think it's safe to say that the lead guy in Heartstrings has never kissed before in real life.

That kiss and hug in ep 39/40 looked real but it probably took 3 or 4 shots to get it right.

The most real-life kiss I've seen so far is in Flower Boys Ramyon Shop.

OMG!!! Someone just told me that the kissing scene shooting was stopped at first because of the rain! Does this mean it took them 2 DAYS to shoot that scene? you know what that means, right? NG galore!!!waaaah

I wonder how many NGs it took them to finally perfect the scene...and how many NGs they did on purpose!lol

0

@thorned sakura

Oh, wow! Lots and lots of NGs??!! How wonderful!! ;)

I echo your thoughts too - how many NGs DID they do on purpose? Hehehe... ;)

I wonder also about the reactions from IU's fans...wonder if JJS will be hounded/criticised for robbing the cradle, so to speak... hehehe ;)

0

well, he's been receiving those kind of comments ever since news about their team-up was released, but he mentioned as long as IU was ok with it, he would do everything that he can for the show. Also, the ahjussis have probably already resigned to the fact that shin-shin couple cannot be stopped!waaah...

Haaaizzzz, i've been trying to reason with my mind but lately I can't help but wish (and sometimes think) that they're a real couple! Somebody help me!!!!!!

0

Well, I was right. It did take them 3 shots to complete the scene...which means no ng, coz all three shots were needed (based on the angling and their own positions).

Oh JJS, why do you have to be soooo professional and gentlemanly?!couldn't you have taken advantage of the situation even just a bit?! Lol (ooh, what am I saying?! Kekeke)

0

@thorned sakura

Where do you get all your information? Is it in English as well? Would love to read them ;)

0

@thorned sakura

forgot to say something :

IU mentioned in an interview posted somewjhere in the Internet that JJS is a super-gentleman, always looking out for IU's well-being on set and that whenever their eyes met on set, JJS will always smile brightly and warmly and give encouraging facial expressions and gestures to IU... ;)

which is why he is such a gentleman and not take advantage of IU during the kiss, otherwise, I am sure he will not be able to live with himself... ;)

i don't blame you for wishing that they can become a real-life couple cos i have been shipping for them to become one right from the Press Conference of the drama, which was months ago...hehehe... ;)

0

Wait, I think I might have misunderstood...it could be that it didn't take 3 takes, but 3 DAYS to shoot the scene (probably coz of the rain)! Waaah...in which case, way to go, JJS! lol

I still need to verify this though as its only 2nd hand info from my friend! Lol and no, its not in english...sorry :(

And yes, he really is such a gentleman. Does he not know that girls much prefer bad boys? Lol *wink* *wink*

0

i think i'm the only one loving the hug after the kiss even more than the actual kiss. His gentle hands caressing her hair/neck..that was INTENSE. Did he attend massage school or something before? Coz that had me swooning. And the way Soon Shin buried her face on his shoulder and tightened the hug? Girl,THANK YOU for not being stiff. i literally replayed the first 3 minutes of episode 40 like 50 times already.

I wish they would have just made a shorter drama with JJS and IU.

Kyaaaaa!!! can't even...too much cute...help!!!

Seriously, I was lamenting on the lack of cute before when all this time the PDs were actually thinking about my health when they did the cute in small doses, because now I think my heart is going to explode from the cute overdose, although I might just be okay with this coz then I'd die a happy fangirl--that, I'm sure will be a good way to go!

But really, a kiss! On a saturday episode!!! I expected them to do it as a sunday episode ender and have us all long and cry out in anticipation for the next weekend! But for once, the show got there first before I expected!lol (I actually had a mini accident because of this scene, which resulted to my ring finger getting injured!) Also, I feel like its so them to have LSS confess first and then have SJH respond by a kiss, coz knowing his bumbling ways, he'll never get the words out!lol

I know some would like a heavier kissing scene, but I'm okay with the lip smack (I did say I'd take any kind of kiss the show will give me). Partly because I've never seen JJS do a kissing scene with lip action (my mind doesn't see why he should when he can portray love in so many other ways, but my fangirl heart just yearns for it sooo badly!), so I didn't think he'd go for a real kiss this time considering his partner is 13 years his junior. But partly also because their character's relationship is still on the cute, budding stage. That means I'm expecting another kiss in the later part of the show, but then maybe a slower, sweeter one!kyaaa...(there goes my heart again!lol)

**Note: Some netizens were kidding about JJS's pained expression during the kiss...I think it was because it took all his effort NOT to give in to the kiss!lol (I know its not true but my fangirl mode is just on FULL POWER today!lol)

And then the cute that followed...waaah! I mean, giving signals to each other on set?Like that's not gonna get noticed!lol Then all the giggling and skinship and playful hitting?! The wedding scene was also really cute for everyone!

But as usual, YA fouls up the mood with her scheming ways. I mean, seriously girl, you intend to break up the family of the person you supposedly love just so he can't be someone else? Just so you know, that doesn't mean he's going to turn to you if LSS is out of the picture!grrr
Still, her plotting kinda worked, which made me madder. This means more bad news for our main OTP on the eps to follow. I'm just happy that we were given so much cute to replay before all this blew up (I was expecting the scandal and the cheating to converge into one angsty 5-6 eps arc before we can get another set of cute!) I didn't think the show was that considerate before.

Anyway, hope you're better now JB. If not, please take some time to rest. Thanks so much for taking time to do this weecaps despite your condition, I know how difficult it is to process anything when you got the bug! Lastly, here's some positive ki for you <3 <3 <3

I read a comment somewhere on tumblr recommending skipping the first half of episode 39 so I did. And I'm glad because I feel like I missed nothing there. The meat of the goodness was in the 2nd half anyhow.

I really liked that SS gave up her confession first because it seems like she's at her bravest and most honest in front of Jun Ho. It shows that she trusts him so much that she feels like even if she confessed to him without hope of reciprocation she can trust him not to make her feel like a fool.

Although I still don't get how she still thought JH had a thing for YA considering he barely acknowledges her presence anymore, I assume that's SS's insecurity raging.
I love how Jun Ho is so incompetent at letting his feeling be known, he still technically didn't spell out that he likes her. He had to show her (I'm not complaining though!) ;)

I feel like I just write out my own reasoning behind why these characters do anything because certainly this writer isn't doing it.

Did anyone else find it funny that SS's flashback montage barely had anything to flashback to in the angst-y mess of the middle episodes? Like for 39 episodes, you really just used 90% of the couple's scenes for a 2 minute flashback. That's how little material you have on the main characters.

Grumbling aside, I was happy we got a kiss which I was NOT expecting. And it was in cute albeit obvious colour coordinated couple-y outfits. And Jun Ho got to ramp up on the dork! But at least now he's got company :)

I would have loved to see them get at least another week of them being cute and happy and doing dorky couple things that simultaneously makes you want to cringe in secondhand embarrassment and squeal at the cute ness BEFORE we opened up our second chapter of mom drama. Now it's MR vs. JH's mom? Seriously writer?

It's not that I'm surprised it's just that I don't want to see 15 episodes of this crap. Not when we still have one more couple to put together! I'm not even going to comment on YA bec that bitch has just lost it.
:\

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but you have a fun way of writing these recaps. A little bit of yourself goes in them and I love that because I smile and think SAMEEE! haha

I had given up all hope on a kiss too, which is why this one coming so sudden makes me think I've been a sleep for most of this show. He's been in love, clearly, but has she been? Anyway, i loved that she said it first. I like that she's still open about her heart after what she's been through.

But the rest should move faster. As I read in a very clever tumblr post:
"It's called 'You're the best Lee Soon Shin', not 'Wanky melodrama between mothers'."

I agree with those who said the hug after the kiss was more swoon-worthy. SS confessed with words while the forever tongue-tied JH confessed with a kiss. The hug was a marvelous reinforcement of their feelings for each other.

The writer definitely has 'mummy issues', every single mother in this series went through or is going through epic tantrum-throwing, irritatingly unreasonable, moody, catty behaviour. You'd think they were all undergoing menopause without medication. What we need is an OBGYN on set then the series would progress at cheetah-pace as opposed to its current snail's crawl. HS may be the only exception but she is such a wall-flower of a character and she's supposed to have been successful, bright, ambitious etc before marriage!

As I said before and it seems many agree, JJS is the saving grace of this show despite JH being somewhat ineptly written.

Hahaha!!! Yeah, I got that watching the RAW ep...he was saying something with LSS after meeting YS at the wedding and both of them were smiling giddily and touching each other so cutely that I guessed he was talking about a wedding and marriage with LSS because they were at YS's wedding... ;)

I too really hope for a wedding for the OTP.. ;)

I can already imagine JJS looking his most handsome yet in a wedding tuxedo!! ;)

0

I know!!! ;)

Lately, I feel like I'm getting more and more greedy when it comes to the development of our main otp's relationship. Before, I was ok and prepared to get only subtle hints of their romance throughout the show. But when I saw them stumbling all over each other, I wanted more of that. Then when I saw SJH longingly looking at LSS , I wanted her to turn back and accept at least his apology and sincerity. When she did turn around and we saw them getting comfortable with each other again, I started wanting more--hand holding at least, or at most a hug. When they did hug, I started looking for a kiss--even a peck on the cheeks or lips will do. And then they kissed and their first kiss was--oh, so good--that I started to want a 2nd...and a 3rd...and a 4th one!

Now, the show is showing us a wedding scene and all those wedding talk made me want a wedding for our own hero! Grrr...show, stop putting these ideas into my head! It's not doing any good for my health, y'know?! :)

0

@thorned sakura

Hehehe!!! We are both in the same boat, so let us row together and hope to God we can stay afloat till we reach our destination, which is when our OTP FINALLY become ONE, giddily enjoying their happily-ever-after... ;)

and if REEL romance and love turns out to become REAL romance and true love, then me would be happily-squeeeing over here in Singapore for our lovely real-life OTP ... ;)

JJS and IU just look so adorable, so SINCERE, so comfortable together, I sometimes forget they are ACTING...hehehe.... ;)

0

if they would've met much later--when iu has already matured--I would definitely want them to end up together for real. But 20 is such a fickle age and I think both of them are in different places in their lives right now, so even if they get together, they might only break up in the end, and that would hurt jjs, and I don't want him to get hurt! Waaaah (I feel like a mother protecting her young, which is funny coz jjs is older than me! Lol)

So the most I can really hope for is a solid happy ever after in their reel lives. If only the writers forget about plotlines (coz I really don't care much about it anyways) and just gives us 1 hour of SJH/LSS doing couple-y things like dates and lazing off--I don't care what they do really, as long as they're together--I wouldn't mind the show getting extended for another 10 episodes! Lol

0

@thorned sakura

I agree that for many people 20 may not be the age where one can be sure of what one wants to achieve in life or even know what life is all about...so considering marriage at that age for such people is a definite no-no...

but I know of many people who are mature beyond their age and as a result, age is just a number because they have proven themselves capable of handling what life has to throw their way when they were in their early twenties... ;)

so, there is no hard and fast rule about when a person should consider making a decision about when to do something or when to take the step towards a life-changing event such as marriage... ;)

it really depends on the individual and his/her level of emotional, intellectual, psychological and spiritual maturity to help him/her make that decision and guide him/her along that path... ;)

anyhow...whether or not JJS and IU do get together for real is really only their business but because I just love seeing them together that I cannot help but wonder if they could possibly be a a good match... ;)

I just LOVE to match people up so that they can find love and happiness, especially they are people that I love... ;)

0

First of all : get well soon javabeans. Don't let the show ruin your health :p

So Chan Woo, the son who is so head-over-heels for Yoo Shin that he actually threatened his own mother that he would go live with his in-laws if she didn't allow the wedding, finally gets his wish and got to marry b**** n°1 in the drama. He must be proud, not that I ever found him to have any sort of credibility. The script-writer would probably be dead right now if I was in Korea.

Anyway, it took 39 episodes for young Joon Ho to FINALLY take his chance and let Soon Shin know about we all knew since God remembers when (that he likes her). But again, if the script-writer knows f*** all, there's not much one can hope for. Pretty sure this is a cute moment that will make the others forget whatever happens around in this episode.

My mother and sister will probably like the episode, glad to see I didn't miss anything of note. Thanks for the recaps javabeans, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

In all my years of watching k drama I have NEVER squeeeeeeeeeed as much as for an OTP. I love Yoonie oppa and Mehari but even that got beat by JH-SS.

Seriously who would have guessed their chemistry will be this good? It's almost unbelievable. That kiss is simply the best. I love that for once, the female lead actually hugs the man back. *off to repeat the kiss scene again*

Ok I promise this is the last time I'm doing this.

@Rach ^^

Hahaha!!! Don't worry or apologise for squeeing cos you are only human. Worry when you DON'T squee over all the squee-worthy stuff from JJS and IU cos that's a sign our emotions are stunted. Hehehe... ;)

I think the most matured, sensible, sane and reasonable characters in this drama are Chan Woo and Young Hoon (the chef, can't recall his name). I love these two characters. CW looked really good with that hairstyle at his wedding.

Thanks JB, get well soon.

eventhough you're sick, you're still funny =). Get well soon JB!

I think Dr. Shin is just having his midlife crisis, and he found a kindred spirit in Miryung. Miryung who always pursue her ambitions but in the end, not happy about it. Dr. Shin is now pursuing his happiness. But I hope no illicit affair coz what's gonna happen to Soon Shin and Junho?

I think their type of affair is called an emotional affair.

So there are a few other things that happened in 39-40 besides the kiss, specifically regarding Bread Man:

- Woo Joo is spoiled by her dad, who buys her the things she cried about before, including dolls and new shoes, which she lords over Bread Man, cuz she's a brat. Hopefully that's the setup for her realizing later how little those things matter. She does miss her dad a lot and constantly asks about him when her mom is trying to avoid him.

- You see Hye Shin buy the shirt she gives Bread Man in 40, specifically because she remembers that Woo Joo upchucked all over him before, so he could use some new threads, which is sweet.

- The ex is a grade-A immature brat himself, so maybe that's where Woo Joo picks up her habits. He gets into a shoving match with Bread Man in front of the Lee house, which is really just not a good thing for his health, after he grabs Bread Man by the shirt and Jin Wook casually uses a hand hold on the ex and forces him to the ground. Of course Woo Joo happens to see this last part (again Bread Man manages to get in trouble confronting strange men in front of the household, heh) and naturally screams at him.

- Hye Shin grabs her ex away from in front of the house for a mano-a-mano talk, which I have no idea what it was about, but at one point the ex spies the shirt Hye Shin bought on the way back home and snatches it assuming it's his, and Hye Shin's all like, nuh uh, give that back right now.

- Hye Shin gives Bread Man the shirt she bought after what I think is his passing grade after she marks his mock English college test. He gleefully dons it on the spot and starts spinning around like a little kid, which eventually causes Hye Shin to break out into the giggles.

Y'know I'm honestly really tired of WJ. The scene where she deliberately FINDS Bread Man outside just show she can show off her shitty things just did it for me. Like that's my breaking point because that's such an unnecessary move.

Yes she's young. Yea she's spoiled. I get that she's bratty. But to that extent? The man has never done anything to you. Yes she doesn't want him with her mom but it's not like he's trying very hard either!

It's just unnecessary. There's no reason to show us just how much more bratty she can be either. We got it already.

Ugh!

Yeah it's actually really sad because I thought what began with her being bratty towards him would end with her bonding with him. But I guess thats not happening.

Same. I thought with her going to the hospital and him being such a stand up guy, she'd tone it down.
Then again I thought when she took his advice and did the thug face at her bullies she'd tone it down after that too.
Bread Man's an angel for not saying anything when she's so rude to him.

WJ takes after her rude ass dad. And the fact that HS almost never reprimand her properly contributes to that. All she do is to 'WJ ya!'

Well, there is a saying : The apple does not fall far from the tree.

So, both HS and her ex have to shoulder the responsibility of how WJ have turned out because they are the parents.

In addition, having a small-minded, shallow, biased, tongue-dripping-with-sarcasm-and-all-things-negative-and-unpleasant of a great-grandmother in her life will definitely leave some form of unfavourable effect/impact on the growing child.

Seriously, the horrible way WJ's great-grandmother, as well as, the mothers and grandmothers, are portrayed in this drama, I wonder if the writer and PD have something against their own mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers??!!

You guys are def right.

If WJ was my child crazy spoiled asshole of a Dad or not, I'd have knocked some serious sense into her. If not before then at least after the divorce. Seems like WJ controls HS way more than she should. She has no authority over her own damn child.

@ Kay: You're right about parents shouldering responsibility. I have to say though, as annoying as gran is, I don't see her having much influence on her granddaughter's life. Certainly there's some influence but in this case, the gran actually likes Bread Man and is the reason he's there in the first place.

I think the most telling thing though is when WJ says something shitty then walks away all huffy. Instead of her mother making her go back and apologize for the rudeness, HS bows down apologetically and then runs AFTER her child. Like NO NO NO- you better make sure that girl understands that YOU'RE THE PARENT! Don't be an accessory on your own daughter's arm or you'll never take control of your life.

And I think I have too little patience with this show to watch the bitch-ass ex try to pull the same shit.
I already take issue with dramas characterizing cheating husbands as immature brats while cheating women get the "conniving woman" stereotype. And then seeing as how HS STILL barely has a spine, I've just exhausted my tolerance for bullshit with this show...
