Oh Ji-eun cast to romance Oh Ji-ho in Ghost Detective

Well, grain of salt on the romance bit, seeing as how OCN crime procedurals like to tease us endlessly with workplace romances that go on for years while doling out crumbs (why yes, Vampire Prosecutor, I’m looking at you). OCN’s newest detective on the block is Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo-yong, which stars Oh Ji-ho as the titular spook-seeing cop out to solve cases with the help of the undead. Joining him as the heroine is King of Dramas’ Oh Ji-eun, who did manage to win me over with her performance in that drama. She’s not someone I’d watch a drama for, but she put herself out there in a comical role, so I’m willing to keep an open mind about her.

The new spook thriller comes from the PD of cop comedy Arrest King and one of the writers of Joseon X-Files, and stars Oh Ji-ho as a detective who loses his family and partner in one terrible incident, and goes from elite detective in the violent crimes unit to a lowly district cop, completely disengaged from life. He’s cut off from the world in every way possible other than having a job, and the pesky condition he was born with that allows him to see, hear, and touch ghosts.

One day he starts talking back to the schoolgirl ghost who’s haunting him (played by Jeon Hyo-sung of idol group Secret) and strangely enough, talking to the undead is what brings him back to the land of the living. He starts to work mysterious cases with his partner, played by Oh Ji-eun, with the added help of “dead signs” that the victims’ souls leave behind.

Oh Ji-eun’s character is a detective in the regional investigation unit, and is famous for her tenacity. She’s got a keen sense of observation, which makes her particularly great at spotting an enemy’s weak point, and also comes in handy for her specialty — crime scene reconstructions. She’s so dogged in her pursuit of closing cases that other cops find her hard to work with. The character description says she’ll have a romantic relationship with Oh Ji-ho, but I’m not going to hold my breath for more than workplace flirting, from the guy who spent seven years cut off from the world.

Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo-young will air for ten episodes on Sunday nights, and premieres October 6 on OCN.

I loved Oh Ji Eun in I Live In Cheongdamdong! Totally won me over with her very relateable and earnest performance. And she had great rapport with the other actors.
Y'know what, ILICDD was just simply outright brilliant a sitcom/drama. Ahhh, I miss it a lot.

*sigh* so I keep hearing. Is there any chance this drama has been subbed yet?

really? Huh, I guess I will have to check that drama out. As for her acting in King of Dramas, I was glad she didn't go stupid psycho second lead on us (which you must give creds to the writer as well), unlike almost every second lead (especially WOMEN) in Korean dramas (e.g. Rooftop Prince. Uh...what a terrible smear to have on your resume) but she was very dull, I felt, in the drama "King of Dramas".

If you're second lead and are supposed to get people to hate you and you can't then you've failed as an actress. I've seen that happen before and it really makes the whole drama go down the tubes because it pulls you out from the basic motivations.

I like Oh Ji Eun, I just wish she had not ended up in the dozenth or so ghost-themed series. I may watch because of her, but regardless I will not watch a bad show just because I happen to like an actor for long.

Yes, ILICDD is simply the BEST drama ever. It is so sad that few have been able to see it. No drama comes close since my watching it last year.

oh Ji Eun brought alive her character in such a way that you can relate everything she did.

Welp, this only furthers my suspicion that ghost-seeing leads is the time-traveling gimmick of 2013. Let the comparisons continue.

I agree, it does seem that we are getting stuck in a theme groove.

New ideas are like ghosts - no one has ever seen one, but everyone is afraid of them..

We need a Ghost revenge story. Only without the "I see dead people."

Joo Kwisin was killed in a car accident when she was on her way to the greatest promotion of her life working in Cheongdam as a purse designer, with the promise that it would be shown in Kingdom Mall.

She only wants someone to hear her voice and work her case, but she can't find anyone that will listen to her. She wants revenge on the people that killed her on that fateful day.

She would have someone listen to her, but the police officer only hears the voices of living people, the detective that sees dead people isn't active yet, she can't enter the mall where the Janitor works, and Alice is busy making pottery. If only someone could hear her voice, it would be the Sun for her.

Coming this Spring to a Korean TV station near you...

Good story. How about I Hear Your Voice 2 where Soo Ah can also hear the dead's voices--those who need to be heard in the cause of justice.

And he has to persuade them to not take revenge? Haha. This time he's working towards being a prosecutor after returning from the army... much to Hye Sung's consternation. =P

I would rather see "WHAT DID YOU SAY? can´t hear you, loud ghosts everywhere. "

I see your dead people and raise by a CEO with a very large head.
and then say " Masters´Sun! Masters´ Sun! Masters´Sun!" three times. lets see if I become a model, err, I mean, disappear into one.

I can't say I'm happy about this. I do like the actress and I'm glad she's in, but I don't like the romance angle. Korean dramas only know of fluff romance or melo romance. Very limited in what they do with it.

In OCN's multi-season series, they can't even pace is. They give it by the drop, because they don't want it to be complete before the end. Which is silly. Why not have them hook up and be a couple during the series? There are still challenges in relationships after the first kiss happens and they get together.

Kdramas seem to think that the minute you kiss/have sex/hook up, a relationship is complete and stops being interesting. That's a very limited way of seeing things.

So no, I am not a fan of the 'Vampire Prosecutor' romance and I wish I didn't have to see it here either. But I'll just ignore it if the ghost/investigating business is solid and it doesn't get too much in the way.

Oooh, it's the actress girl from King of Dramas, she's so pretty.

Anyway, what's up with all the ghost-seeing themed dramas lately? first we had a bunch of Vampires back in 2011, then in 2012 it was time-traveling, and now we have ghost dramas...which tbh, K-dramas haven't done for a long time...but why all at once?

Ghosts and painfully literal titles are *definitely* this year's time travel. "Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo-young" is a freaking plot summary.

(I knew we didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting Vampire Prosecutor this fall with Yeon Jung-hoon still on that weekend drama, but that doesn't mean I don't resent it.)

I"M SO EXCITED. This actress has become one of my favorites! She is just plain awesome in I Live in Cheongdamdong. I love this series even though I have no idea what they're saying half the time. So funny and heartwarming. One day, I will find subs for that show. I have to! If you think Oh Ji Eun is funny in King of Drama's then you should really check her out in I live in Cheongdamdong. Its really hard to even find raws unfortunately, but so worth the hunt!
