Dramabeans Meetup in Seattle
by | September 13, 2013 | 135 Comments

Maybe you missed our first Dramabeans Meetup in New York, or couldn’t swing by our second in Los Angeles, or didn’t make it out to KCON 2013 to see us there.

We can’t promise we’ll make it everywhere, but we’re trying! If you’re in the Seattle area, we hope you’ll come see us at our next meetup, which we’ve got planned for next weekend. Got Saturday afternoon free? Come chat with me and girlfriday (sadly, gummimochi and HeadsNo2 won’t be there—it’ll be a mini-meetup without them!) and other drama fans.

The details:

Date: Saturday, September 21
Time: 2:30 to 5:30 pm
Location: Ballard Library, Meeting Room
Address: 5614 22nd Ave. N.W.
                Seattle, WA 98107
(directions)

The meeting room is just inside the main entrance to the left. The library has a parking garage, and there is paid and unpaid street parking.

I do enjoy the fact that our NYC meetup was at a bar, our LA one at a mall, and our Seattle one at a library. Seems fitting, doesn’t it? Almost like it was planned that way. (We totally didn’t plan it that way.)

Hope to see you there!

Have fun… and share all the secrets afterwards ;–)

    Have good time meeting up!

  4. Christina

Ah, it’s too bad I left Seattle for Korea… haha

  5. CutiieAngiie

Oh gosh’, why did you have to put this picture. I miss Dating Agency Cyrano so much :) (gotta watch it again right now –’)
When, when is Sooyoung going to act in another drama. It has ended two months ago but I’m still starving pff.

It sucks living in France, seriously. All good stuffs are happening in USA (or Korea lol).

    • 5.1 Ally

I live in the us and would switch places with you in a min!

    • 5.2 helena

If living in France is such an ordeal, you should just leave. I’m sure millions would be happy to be in your place!

  6. milkoook

      I’m all the way around the world…in Singapore. ;;

      • 6.1.1 Melissa

Okay, my comment doesn’t really make sense. I’m always half-delirious during exam weeks, don’t blame me. xD

      • 6.1.2 the50-person

        Ahhh same country!

      • 6.1.3 dee

  8. Brownshugah

Speaking for most European fans when asking for consideration of a future meet up over on this side. Anywhere is easy to get to in Europe, if you are in Europe.

I can even host you guys in Geneva if you make the meet up these sides. And we can retrace Seo-jin and the Grandpas tracks through Switzerland.

    Think about it?

    • 8.1 paper

I will be so up for this meet up! Sounds fab touring Europe :3 I have family living in Italy ;D But I live in Australia so if this Europe meet-up ever happens it would be best if its during a break like in December or January :3

    • 8.2 Shadow-chan

I totally second the wish for a Europe meet up!

Maybe we should just make our own? Haha :D

    • 8.3 Mohammed

Im in Sweden and i would so love a European meet. Im so jealous of American K-drama fans that have these kind of meets, K-cons all the time.

      • 8.3.1 Sabelita

Hola Mohamed I miss your comments,I am in Spain and I think everybodyin Europe can book cheap flights for landing here…We are great to prepare fun/fan meetings jaja.

  9. Onichick

Oh wow, I can actually go to this \o/

  10. 10 Requiem

Heh, CDA pic. Nice. Hope all beanies who make it have fun.

Just be careful if you see a mysterious figure at the train station! Or I guess enjoy him/her?

  11. 11 themugen

I wish I could use a sick day and drive there… Boise’s not that far. But I can’t.

  12. 12 My2Girls

You have made my morning Javabeans and Girlfriday. I will be there! I can’t remember if the Ballard library meeting room allows food. I will look into that. I bake and would be happy to bring stuff. What brings you wonderful ladies to the lovely Pacific Northwest? Or is this the only reason? Well, whatever the reason I am grateful for the chance to meet two of my favorite blog writers in person and I would love to meet some fellow Kdrama fans (addicts! Who am I kidding) from the Seattle area. See you Saturday!

    • 12.1 Ren

Baked goods sounds like such a great idea! I would love to contribute something as well :) Yay, I’m glad they’re coming here

    • 12.2 javabeans

Food is allowed! And drinks that aren’t alcoholic.

We’d love baked goodies! We can supply the coffee — wouldn’t be a ‘beans party without some java (or liquor… but yunno, don’t want to get banned from the library).

      • 12.2.1 Mish

Wouldn’t be appropriate to skip coffee in Seattle for that matter!

Hmm what can I bring across the border for this shindig…

      • 12.2.2 Rexy

Will you be doing one of those “Who’s Showing Up?” polls the closer to the date? I would definitely love to bring some baked goods too, and it’d be nice to have an idea of how many people are showing up so we can bake accordingly. (Though who am I kidding? At my house the motto is usually, “Go big or go home” haha!)

      • 12.2.3 Gidget

JB / GF Now don’t you worry your pretty little heads about bringing anything. Please let us handle all the food and beverege details as a small gesture to say 1) thank you for all you do for us, and 2) we’re so happy you’re visiting Seattle.

I’ll bring the coffee. Starbucks, unless anyone has another suggestion.

      • 12.2.4 Sarah

alright, so anything that should be alcoholic, must be embedded in baked goods or chocolate

        :D

  13. 13 JJ

i hope next time in San Francisco

    • 13.1 Cindy

      I second this too!

    • 13.2 pharcycle

      OMG SAN FRANCISCO PLZ!!!

    • 13.3 GG

      Another vote for SF! :D

  14. 14 aaannie

OHIO!! ok ohio might not be everyone’s cup of tea but somewhere close would be nice. show the midwest some love. we exist!!!!

  15. 15 Sham

We’d love to see you in CHICAGO!!!

  16. 16 Kiara

Seattle is beautiful. I miss the Evergreen State, so clean and green.

You should hangout at the Space Needle:p.

    • 16.1 Kiara

GOOD-LUCK to the SEAHAWKS. Hope they’ll win tomorrow or I’ll have to pay 100 bucks to my frienemy who is a die hard Niner fan.

  17. 17 Katie

Bostonnnnnnnn. Or another time in NYC. I would totally take the flight to the West Coast if I had money and wasn’t in law school…

    • 17.1 jademwong

I second this. Another time in NYC. I’m sure there are some of us who weren’t able to make it the first time lol

    • 17.2 Mrembo

Adding to the seconding here! I just moved back to the area and will be absolutely thrilled if there is another meetup in NYC in the very near future.

  18. 18 vere

    Woo. See you guys soon.

  19. 19 mem916

Still hoping for a Chicago one we are willing and waiting or at lest somewhere in the Midwest

  20. 20 Crazed Espresso

When I went to Dramabeans this morning, and I saw “Seattle”, I freaked!
Thank you so much for coming here. I seriously can’t wait! Within the people I know, only my Mom & I know about and care about K-Pop & Korean Dramas.
    So thanks again, guys!!

  21. 21 jademwong

Have fun!! Have tons of fun!!

  22. 22 AnaBanana

AHHHH!!! This is awesome. I’m in

  23. 23 yochan

I’m moving to Seattle at the end of this month…UGH won’t make the meeting

  24. 24 Stardust

Aaaaw… if you all ever decide to come to hot, humid Singapore, I would SO BE THERE…. not sure if that will ever happen, just like waiting for JYJ to come here for a concert, but I will be hoping and waiting! ♥♥♥

Meantime, hope you all beanies have loads of fun together!

  25. 25 robin

    OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!

I live in Ballard!! The meetup is during my husband’s 40th birthday party, but who cares? I’ll be there!

You guys have made my day. Never thought I’d get to meet you and other drama freaks.

    Thank you!

    • 25.1 Paula S

you have your priorities straight. ^^

  26. 26 kngdrama

Three miles to Ballard from my house. Wow.

  27. 27 Jinny

Oh god I saw Seattle and was sooooo happy! I’ll definitely try to make it(:

    • 27.1 Jinny

WHOA. I had to do a double take at this comment and make sure I hadn’t posted this in my sleep.

Like the other Jinny, I will definitely be trying to make this! I live in Fremont, just 5 minutes away from the ballard library. <3 So exciting!!!

  28. 28 katmoo

Anyone from Portland want to carpool?

  29. 29 pic_pak

Ahh so close and yet so far–what a tease! I’m in SF! Any chance you’ll want to come down for a day while in Seattle?

  30. 30 Palilsan

Hooray, I can’t believe you are coming to Seattle. I’ll definitely be there. I live less than 10 minutes away in Fremont.

  31. 31 Krazyk

    YEAH!!!

I’m so excited. And I just can’t hide it. (super cheesy. I know)

An actual Dramabeans meetup I can attend. I will be there. I cannot wait to meet everyone.

    Thanks so much.

  32. 32 spazmo

YAY!!! umm, why the ballard library in the afternoon? no makgoli and soju? no sushi and karaoke?

while we seattleites are known to devour the most books per capita – there are more “fun” places that could be an option for the meetup…

i mean, in the library, won’t we have to whisper?
    ; )

    • 32.1 Paula S

Maybe we can make makgeolli look like milk and soju look like vanilla flavoring in the coffee??

um, it’s a meeting room in the library — no need to whisper. ^^

  33. 33 spazmo

and can you bring Lee Jong Hyuk with you, pleeeeze?

  34. 34 Paula S

대박! never imagined you’d come to Seattle next on your Worldwide Tour. See ya next weekend. Dress for, ya know, chance of Rain. ^^

    • 34.1 spazmo

if only the “real” Rain/Jung Ji Hoon would come, too… he’s been under the radar since getting out of the army, hasn’t he….

      • 34.1.1 Paula S

        you read my mind ^^

    • 34.2 Paula S

and would really like to know if there’s food so I could bring some korean 빵 from our local shop.

      • 34.2.1 spazmo

see 12.2 reply from javabeans! food allowed! can we “sneak” some soju in? *wink* *wink*

        • 34.2.1.1 Paula S

yup! good news indeed. we have a really nice bakery in the Paldo World here. I’ll pick up some goodies. and see my advice above re: 술 ^~

  35. 35 DramaFan100

I live in Seattle. It’s a date. I love libraries too. This is exciting. So interested in meeting you.

  36. 36 DramaFan100

I have never been to one of these. Do people bring anything?

  37. 37 whoneedssleep

Noooooo! I’ll be in Seattle the following weekend…what a bummer! Timing is everything :(

  38. 38 mrk

    ohohoh!

Following the trend, the next one will be in Miami, no?
    Say yes. Say yes.

  39. 39 Mish

I’m just working out if I can grab a Boltbus or Quickcoach from Vancouver (sucks not driving haha).

But yeah. Is food and beverage involved or is that a no-no in library?

  40. 40 Julie

This is the world working against me. I live in the southern part of the States and will be traveling to Seattle for work – only I will fly there Sunday night and miss the meetup by stinking 24 hours. Blah!

  41. 41 XYZ

YAY! Count me in! I would definitely brave the 2hr-drive from Vancouver just to be with the lovely Beanies! Thank you for coming up here! See ya!

    • 41.1 Mish

Huzzah! Another Vancity representative :D Let us pray for brief border lineups.

  42. 42 sleepisfortheweak

ahh if only… i was so excited when i saw the words “dramabeans meetup”! sounds so exciting, wish we could all be there :(

i totally second the future san francisco meetup idea though!

    please post pictures later ^^

  43. 43 Jackeline

Omg Vancouver’s not that far from Seattle, and my family’s going to drive down that weekend to the States to go shopping!!! …If only I didn’t have work… Argh! ):

The timing’s really too bad. ;_; For those of you who are going, have fun! Maybe someday DB can come to Canada.

  44. 44 Moocow

Hope to see the dramabeans crew in Toronto!

  45. 45 MidnightBlue

But I was just in Seattle last weekend for a wedding! Hopefully you’ll make it to the southeast at some point. You know, DragonCon added a kpop and kdrama panel to their Silk Road track this year. Maybe next year you can lead a panel or two! (Labor Day weekend, Atlanta)

  46. 46 Sarah

    OMG YES!!!
Is anyone coming from the east side (Redmond/Bellevue)? We can go together! :)

    • 46.1 Nanny

Hi, I am thinking about attending too! I would be coming from the Eastside too!

And, I would love to bring baked goods, or maybe a cake? How should we coordinate?

      • 46.1.1 Sarah

Oh that would be great! I have to take a bus so I was wondering if I could carpool with someone since it’s like more than hour?

umm i’m not sure how we could coordinate. perhaps meet somewhere close by i guess…i live by the regional library in redmond =)

        • 46.1.1.1 Nanny

          Hi Sarah,

We could possibly meet at the Redmond Library and go from there. If Dramabeans makes another confirmation post, we could post there and confirm, or check back this thread. Unless Dramabeans has a way for us to communicate directly so we don’t have to post our whereabouts for all to see :)

Can’t wait to meet everyone, as it looks like there are quite a few from the eastside too! I am not an active poster, but have been an avid reader and follower since the Coffee Prince days!

          • 46.1.1.1.1 Sarah

Sounds good! Thanks, Nanny! Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else!

    • 46.2 Gidget

      Bridle Trails!

      Anyone like cupcakes? What flavors?

      • 46.2.1 spazmo

awww, are you thinking what i’m thinking — trophy cupcakes? i was thinking about getting a bunch of the mini-samplers… we should coordinate… and of course, there’s cupcake royale….

        • 46.2.1.1 Gidget

I’ve been making a lot of them lately. Mostly custom favors. Was thinking of trying to come up with a yummy makgeolli cupcake. ID required. :-)

Buuuuut, who knows if that will really work out. If you want to do the mini cupcakes, I’m in!

          • 46.2.1.1.1 Sarah

            makgeolli cupcake YUM!!!!

          • 46.2.1.1.2 Gidget

Week got crazy and not enough time to experiment in the kitchen. Will be picking up some minis.

Spazmo, if you see this let me know what your favorites are…

          • 46.2.1.1.3 spazmo

i’m bringing 16 cupcakes from trophy – was going to do the minis, but i’d have to get a dozen of only ONE FLAVOR… so… as for YOUR cupcakes, do what your heart desires! actually, i can’t handle sweets well, but i figure everyone else can.

psssst… a friend is going to try to make soju jello shots. hee hee hee…

          • 46.2.1.1.4 Nanny

            Cupcakes sound good!

I can bring cookies, and…kettle corn? The Redmond Farmers market has really good kettle corn, and it’s on Saturday so it will be fresh! And I’ll see how much I can bake prior to Saturday’s meetup!

            See you all there!

    • 46.3 Kiara

Bellevue, I used to live there /cry.

      • 46.3.1 Gidget

        Come back then!!!

  47. 47 gailT

yay! i’m going to print my oldest comment and have JB and GF autograph it.

    • 47.1 Paula S

      love that idea!

      • 47.1.1 spazmo

i’m going to bring my poster of Jang Hyuk that i got from Hmart to ask JB and GF to sign… i got the poster because i was pawwing at the one at Hmart, and the liquor manager saw me and said she had more posters and gave me and my girlfriend each a poster…

        : D

  48. 48 Season

Oh no, I would so come! But that’s the same weekend as the Susan G. Komen Seattle 3-Day. :( Please have another one soon!

  49. 49 Raizel

Awwwwww I just left Seattle for college on the East coast. Such a shame.. Hope you guys have fun in the Pacific Northwest!!!

  50. 50 LizC

    Have a great time!
Since you’re meeting in a library, I challenge some enterprising beanies to recreate the library scenes from Queen Inhyun’s Man. I’m sure that there are at least a few time-traveling Joseon scholars in Ballard, right?
