Name That Drama: The vague edition

More, more, more! This edition is a little skimpy on details, but I have faith that there’ll be somebody out there who can put a name to a description.

  1. C’s question may be tougher than usual, but surely somebody has an idea:

This is definitely a Korean movie but it is very very old so hopefully someone is into the older K-movies. I’m talking ’60s-’70s old.

There’s a saxophone player who falls in love and fathers a son with a woman who is a rich man’s woman. The rich man is somewhat like the boss of the saxophone player. When he finds out he beats the poor guy to a pulp, turning him into a cripple. The saxophone player barely gets away with his life and his son. In seven or so years, the son is seen shining shoes to support himself and his father. In the end the son manages to reconnect the father with his mother.

  2. Jennerz asks:

Hi, there is this drama I’ve been wanting to watch again but can’t remember the name. It’s about Girl A who is a celebrity and she gets into an accident, and her manager ends up replacing her with her twin. Later Girl A ends up changing her face due to her accident and gets pushed away from her manager. Her manager ends up falling in love with the twin but he dies at the end. Thanks for your time!

  3. Leilani’s drama:

Korean drama, 90’s-2000’s, about a young woman who is a single mom with a little girl. She is a seamstress who works part-time for a big company that’s run by a rich man and his family. He pursues her by going through her daughter and visiting them at their shop where she sells material/clothes… not sure… but the rich man wants to be with this woman and his family is against it. Can you help me out?

  4. Veronique’s drama sounds… interesting…

I saw your “Name That Drama” section and I am begging for you to help me find a drama I watch once.

There are three boys, a spoiled rich little boy, a playboy, and a really poor boy. While living their lives they all end up knocked out, waking up tied up in a school room. Turns out it is a cooking school and they are not allowed to leave. After losing to the principal they have to participate and every food competition looks like a game show.

  5. Linzi’s parameters are rather fuzzy but maybe we can get a list going for this one:

Hi, there is a drama that I stumbled upon years ago and I cannot at all remember the name of it. I can’t remember any of the character’s names or any key scenes in the drama. I only know that it’s about a grown woman who is incredibly narcissistic. She thinks that everyone is in love with her, especially her friend’s/sister’s boyfriend. I think the boyfriend ends up proposing to her best friend/sister or something and it all goes fuzzy for what happens next. I don’t know if it’s a drama or a movie so any help would be appreciated :]

No 2 is 'Mina' starring Kim Sarang.

Yes, I agree 100%. Haven't seen another drama with the exact plot line. You really need to suspend your logical thinking when watching Mina =P

Number two sounds like "Mina."

The last one sounds like a Japanese drama called Anna-san no Omame. The female character was incredibly narcissistic and thought everyone liked her, even going as far as to think that her best friend's boyfriend is using the friend to get her instead. She's really a whackjob.

For #5, maybe Anna-san no Omame?

It sounds similar - here's the description from the drama-wiki
"Anna is everyone's dream; beautiful, intelligent, kind and elegant. But in this drama, she is not the heroine... it is her best friend Lily. Lily is a girl who is overly confident of her own beauty and fantasizes that the whole world is in love with her. She even feels sorry for Anna who is always chased by the boys... as she believes that they are using Anna to become acquainted with her own self."

Hahahhahah, omg, that sounds hilarious. I am going to watch that just for the inevitable fail from "Lily".

I didn't know what it was, but I also thought "That's a J-drama for sure!"

Honestly, that kind of premise... Japanese through and through.

To be fair, kdramas come up with some pretty wack concepts themselves (gumihos for girlfriends, alien vampires who become pop idols on planet Earth) but jdramas just seem to celebrate the weirdness more.

They do, but it's a different kind of weirdness.

I think that # 4 might be "Delicious Gakuin", a Japanese drama. I haven't watched it, but the premises kinda stays with you, ha ha. So when I saw this, I remembered it and looked it up. Here's what dramawiki says:
"After being kidnapped and being taken to a cooking school told they must enroll, a group of boys deal with learning tons of recipes while also focusing on thoughts of love, friends, and intentions."

It might not be it...but how many dramas can there be about boys kidnapped and forced to participate in a cooking school? lol

I agree. I saw a couple episodes and I remember them being tied up and forced to cook in an abandoned high school. lol

It is a Japanese drama. I never watched it but I remember reading a description like that on dramacrazy.

#1 may be a Chinese movie and not a Korean movie. I vaguely remember a movie like that. Definitely the shoe-shining part. But you're right that it was a long, long time ago! I would say more 80's though.

I have a confession here: I love reading these, "Name That Drama"'s here. But whenever another is posted I get this "itch" to make up a plot and see if somebody can find a movie that it represents. (You know, doesn't anyone else have a COMPULSION to spit when they see the "no spitting" sign at the edge of a canyon. Or run barefoot through the "do not step on the grass" area? Meh, maybe it's just me. . .)
Seriously, one of these days I'm going to make up the weirdest scenario I can, just to see if somebody can make it fit into an old movie script.

i wanna troll with you! I'm almost positive that no matter how crazy we make the plot, there is some drama/movie somewhere that'll fit it, even if only barely XD

Required fields are marked *

Hum..that gets me thinking.. how about coming up with a synopsis that includes all of your favorite tropes played out by your favorite type of characters...and see if your "perfect" drama actually exists XD

Omo! I completely agree. I would so do that if I had enough imagination to get past Lee Min Ho and Hyun Bin being bromantic....-_-' le sigh, my mind goes places that I don't even know about...lol/jk:)

I was just thinking about doing that while I was reading. Although I bet that it would not matter there would be a kdrama or jdrama that would fit the bill.

Delicious Gakuin is number 4. Very funny in a giddy flaky way. Miura Ryosuke is in it and plays a kid whose last name is Perrier. It has its repetitive moments but it's a good cooking drama and the boys are just funny if you like a drama that is just plain silly and plain flaky.

i think number one is a korean movie because I remember the mom wore hanbok. I remember that the kid worked to buy medicine for his dad but I don't remember title because it was translated in my native language and it often changes/leaves out original title of the movie.

Number 3 sounds a lot like the drama 'Good Job, Good Job' with my uber talented ahjussi Uhm Ki Joon and Chae Rim. Everything fits expect that Chae Rim worked for UKJ's rich mom's ceramic store and letter opens one of her own. you can check it out at dramafever or good drama.net to see it if is it.

There seems to be so much success with naming dramas on here. I would like to try. I've only seen a few episodes of this drama but never knew the title. I saw it in 2007(maybe, possibly b/t 2004-2010). I'm not sure if it's a Korean drama. It's about three ladies who live together. Two of them are psychologists(?) and I think the third roommate is a reporter.
One of the psychologist had a coworker who used to be fat and she was also looking for her lost brother. I believed she let go of him at an amusement park when she was younger. During an episode (or maybe two), she mistaken a star from the US as her younger brother.

I remember psychologist two's name was Janice (Lee?). There was an episode where she met an (ex?) pornstar. The pornstar had problems with her mother. She used to agree and follow her mother's ways but the one time she went against the mother, the mother stopped favoring her and instead favored her (the pornstar's) sister. Janice became her friend.

I don't remember which psychologist was involve but there was also another episode where there was a kid who could see her grandmother. The mother was freaked out because the kid drew the grandmother in her burial clothes and the grandmother died before the kid was born.

There is also another episode where the reporter had to deal with a flasher.

This is all that I remember. If someone could name this drama; I would be really grateful!! I watched this when I was a kid and have been searching for a couple years.

Sounds like Flower Boy Ramen Shop to me, where Jung Il Woo is the guy in the suit. The scene you described would take place in the last episode.

I love reading those but then they put a big spoiler in the end and I lose all the interest.

it seemed interesting until you read ''he dies/she dies in the end'' well... thanks for spoiling it

This is rather vague as well. In this scene a lady was talking to another women who she doesn't like very much. The women's mother appears and the lady said both mother and daughter look beautiful and maybe it's because they both visited the same plastic surgeon.

I watched this drama in the late 90's and became so obssessed with it. Since i was very young then , i cant remember the title nor the sypnosis. i hope even one of you would know this. Please help me ~~

This is the story between two buddies and the conflicts they have because of friendship and politics. Its a melodrama and i think its very popular at the time. There is also a girl who will fall in love with one of the main leads and she is maybe a casino owner's daughter. I hope this is enough details.

I don't know where else to post this, but I'm looking for a drama as well. It's about a girl who teaches at a music school in a wooded area. There's a half white half Korean dude in the drama, and he spoke more English than Korean. He wasn't Daniel Henney, but he was just as good looking. The plot was kind of dumb but it was a feel-good drama. Please help. I've been searching for a long time! Thanks!

Sounds like the Taiwanese drama Green Forest. My Home. It has Esther Liu as teacher Sophie and Leon Jay Williams as the English-speaking William Spencer, the owner of the Royal Spencer Academy of Music.

Idk for sure but the last sounds like Manny. I mean the drama itself was somewhat lacklaster in my opinion but janice was really narcissistic and she like the dude nanny who takes care of her sister's/friend's kids. But he ends up dating the kids mom cuz shes single. Idk whatever thats what it sounds like to me so check it out and see if it is!!
