Running Man: Episode 166

The corporate world can be a ruthless place especially when you have a group of chaebols all fighting over shares within the company. It can get downright brutal at times or utterly ridiculous in that head-to-head battle where gasp, you may even need to get on your hands and knees. But in order to survive, you’ll do virtually anything to secure your place as the rightful heir of that variety throne.

EPISODE 166. Broadcast on October 6, 2013.

We open at RM Group headquarters, where Kwang-soo welcomes everyone to his fancy rooftop garden party …and then stops to ask if he’s playing his rich boy character correctly. Ha.

Haha, however, has no problem slipping into the role. Will the “Almost Paradise” intro be used in every mega-rich-elite drama to come? Answer? Yes, probably.

It’s not long before the two chaebols hurl insults at each other, only to be told that they’re actually affiliates. So they immediately switch to polite jondaemal, then the PD adds: “You two grew up together.” Cue high-fives and banmal. Love. It.

Everyone looks spiffy in their white threads today, and when Ji-hyo arrives, the boys congratulate her on her Midas touch. Heh. Along with Jong-kook and Suk-jin, they’re all part of the oil industry.

But every large corporation has a rival, which is when Jae-suk and Gary arrive in their black suits. Kwang-soo finds it hard to believe that Jae-suk is the leader of anything fashion-related, but that’s easily remedied by today’s guests: Heirs castmates Choi Jin-hyuk, Kim Woo-bin, and Park Shin-hye.

I love how both Gary and Haha quietly distance themselves from their tall guests, whom Jae-suk calls the “real heirs.” The others are like “So are we!” but Jae-suk shuts them down.

It’s a team battle in today’s race where the rival subsidiaries will duke it out to acquire as many shares as they can prior to the final mission. The winning team will earn the right as heirs to the massive RM conglomerate.

As corporate trainees, the teams (Oil vs. Fashion) change into their tracksuits, and the cast note how the flower boys (and girl!) manage to make anything look fashionable. I wonder if Jae-suk will stick to his running joke of calling the other team “squid” today, but then everyone heads off to their first mission.

In the elevator, everyone is surprised to hear that Jin-hyuk and Kwang-soo are donggap, to which Kwang-soo adds, “To be honest, Jin-hyuk doesn’t look young for his age either!”

It cracks me up that the PDs keep trying to sell the whole mock company scenario, only to have the cast bring it back to reality. “We’re at the SBS building!” But the staff barrels on to introduce their first game to test their endurance… by pulling out plungers from a pillar. LOL.

Kwang-soo talks up a storm before his turn, only to run into trouble right away. After much hilarious struggling, the first one gives a great big *pop* noise before he falls to the ground.

HA, now I get why the staff chose this task—there’s so much comedic potential trapped in a single concept. Rewind, replay!

Naturally, the others think Kwang-soo is playing it up for variety’s sake, but it really looks like he’s having a hard time. It’s a good minute before Kwang-soo removes the second one while Jae-suk tries his hand with a fallen plunger and nearly throws his back out. HA.

Kwang-soo eventually finishes (Caption: …Success?), completely out of breath. He’s told that he was nearly disqualified, and in utter disbelief, Kwang-soo argues for his 2:54 record.

The Fashion team send out Woo-bin (eee!), who steps up… and also struggles with the first plunger. HA. But he soon figures out a strategy and pops out the rest with ease (and 39 seconds to boot).

For the next round, the teams are allowed to place the plungers for the other team. It starts off easy enough as Jin-hyuk jumps to see how far he could reach. But then he tries to climb on Woo-bin’s shoulders, and the maknae crumbles underneath him. Kwang-soo: “I lost to this guy?!”

So they switch places and Woo-bin places the plunger high above him… and then it falls off. HAHAHAHA, is there an underlying heodang quality to you two?

What’s great about all of these attempts is how these two whisper their awksome plans among themselves, only for them to epically fail, like how Jin-wook runs up for a boost and crashes into the pillar. So Jae-suk shows them how it’s done and collapses to the ground. Pfft, these are better than the game itself.

Suk-jin and Haha volunteer their efforts for the second round, and I love how offended they get when Myuk PD asks if they’ll be okay. “Why?” “What about us?” Sure enough, they pull and pull, and Haha ups the comedic effect by pulling on Suk-jin’s hair.

Is that… black hair powder? Then Haha saves the potentially embarrassing moment by declaring, “There’s suk-tan [coal] coming out of Suk-jin’s hair!” It earns the mat-hyung the new punny nickname “Ji Suk-tan.”

The Heodang Brothers aka Jin-hyuk and Woo-bin get teased again for strategizing in whispers. But whaddayaknow, Jin-hyuk is strong enough for the both of them and finishes in a cool 7.81 seconds. Whoa.

Turns out the bankbooks contain real money (a million Won or $1000 USD) that will be given to the winners. Jae-suk tries to interfere with the other team’s rock-paper-scissors rounds, but it’s Ji-hyo who takes it for safekeeping.

Woo-bin’s heodangness is brought up again in the car as Oppa struggles with the seatbelt. The conversation turns to the origin of Gary’s name, and he answers: “They called me gae [dog] at school.”

There were some other alternative choices as well, Gary adds, “Like gae-mi [ant].” HA.

That image of the Oil F4 cracks me up (with more “Almost Paradise,” yes), especially the attached captions, like Kwang-soo (herbivore) and Jong-kook (Gym King).

Our second game sounds confusing but could easily be entertaining. It’s a series of 1:1 battles while their teammates will bet two glasses of water for every one bankbook. The winning team will get to throw said water into the losers’ faces, just like they do in the dramas! Suk-jin: “Just don’t get any in my hair.” Heh.

Jin-hyuk and Kwang-soo face off in a thumb-wrestling match, and the latter shows off his long thumb, exclaiming, “When it comes to toes and thumbs, it’s me!” They start, and Jin-hyuk gets called out for hiding his thumb. But no matter, because Kwang-soo pins him a few moments later and wins the round.

He pockets the bankbooks, and when Ji-hyo says she’ll keep it safe, Kwang-soo yells, “You know how many times I fell for that at New Years with my mom!” Hahaha.

It takes three takes for Kwang-soo to throw the water into Jin-hyuk’s face, but it’s Jin-hyuk who comes out looking cooler between them. Kwang-soo: “I’M the hero of this scene!” Jae-suk: “You’re the one the viewers would curse!” Truer words.

I love how the height difference with Haha turns his dramatic threats instantly funny. He has Jin-hyuk match his height (“Open your legs!”) just like they do on drama sets.
Then Haha and Jae-suk engage in a race to see who can change into their suits the fastest. Haha wins the round.

He positively beams at the rare opportunity to get his revenge after working with Jae-suk for so long, taunting his sunbae to draw out the moment. It builds up the anticipation… and then Kwang-soo steps in to do the honors. Twice. Ahahaha.

The ladies step up for the next round, and Jae-suk mistakenly(?) calls Shin-hye as “Eun-hye” in a slip of the tongue. And Jae-suk sends out another “I miss you [Yoon] Eun-hye” to the camera.

Gary presides over the game (think of Simon Says but flipping spoons of “gold” and “silver” over your eyes). Ji-hyo gets caught up and blames it on Gary’s mumbling, to which Jong-kook asks: “Were you just listening to Gary’s voice?” HA.

Gary: “I was just looking at YOU, silly.” Ha, and the replay confirms it.

Jae-suk tells Ji-hyo to stop playing with poor Gary’s heart, and then sends another video message to Yoon Eun-hye. That riles Jong-kook’s temper of course, and this time Shin-hye asks why he’s getting so upset: “Are you still attached to her?” Heh.

So they start over (and Gary speaks clearly this time), but Ji-hyo messes up again. Heehee.

Their current number of bankbooks are on the line in their next game of rock-paper-scissors. Jong-kook doesn’t consider Woo-bin at his rival at all, and Kwang-soo reminds everyone: “Don’t you remember Jong-kook throwing Woo-bin off last time?”

Both men put those quick reflexes to use, and though Woo-bin gets the first hit, Jong-kook hits him back with two more. Woo-bin ties up the score, and it’s down to one last hand… and Woo-bin gets the final hit.

Kwang-soo sells off two of his bankbooks for a turn to hit Jong-kook with water, and when Haha joins in, he in turn sprays Kwang-soo for depleting their account. Then Jin-hyuk gets in a refreshing splash, cutting Jong-kook off mid-sentence. Niicce.

But perhaps the best part comes when it’s Jae-suk’s turn and Jong-kook throws the water back in his face over and over and over again. Hehe.

Then we check in with our bankbooks count as the Fashion team holds 12(!) versus the Oil team’s 3.

At the Han River, the cast gapes at the manmade pool by the river bank. Haha: “At this rate, we’ll keep doing [the pool games] ’til winter!” Here, it’s a literal head-to-head wrestling match and Haha and Jae-suk step up for the first round.

Haha puts in a good fight while all I can think of is Owwwww. But then Jae-suk rams him once more and Haha falls into the water. That victorious glory shot is hilarious.

HA, why am I not surprised that Woo-bin yelps in pain as soon as the match starts? The heodang …it kills me. Every. Time. Kwang-soo: “You think you can still be an heir?!” Woo-bin: “Shut up!”

Then I love how Woo-bin just barrels on ahead as Kwang-soo slides off the platform. He takes on Jong-kook next, and I can’t imagine why Kwang-soo thinks it’s a good idea annoying Spartakooks before the match.

Not that he needs the extra encouragement since he sends Woo-bin and Jin-hyuk off easily anyway. Jong-kook: “Bring on Chu Sung-hoon!”

But we all know Jong-kook’s greatest weakness is women, and when Shin-hye asks for his help, the dongsaengs call out: “Don’t fall for her!” She makes sure to add in an aegyo-filled “Thanks, Oppa.” Hook, line, and sinker.

Shin-hye’s aegyo attacks work like a charm as the dongsaengs yell at Jong-kook to stay focused. In the end, he gives in like a gentleman, to his team’s disappointment. Haha: “Should I consider [Shin-hye] as my sister-in-law, then?”

A final count before the final mission: Fashion (17) and Oil (5).

Everyone heads back to headquarters where the teams will meet their shareholders, and obtain their legal proxies. The first team to do so and sit in the shareholders’ meeting room first, wins.

The teams run inside once they learn who they’re looking for. The Oil team crashes the Cultwo’s (컬투) live radio broadcast, to the audience’s great pleasure.

Meanwhile, Jae-suk and the Heodang Brothers head upstairs to meet MC Im Sung-hoon whose son happens to be PD Im Hyung-taek. Then there’s announcer Kim Min-ji aka Park Ji-sung’s ladyfriend.

Ha, it’s hilarious how unwilling MC Im Sung-hoon is willing to hand the envelope over. As the dae sunbae of the bunch, he totally milks the moment and sends them out on a coffee run.

Back at the radio show, Haha is busy trying to persuade the hosts when Shin-hye offers to dance then and there. She does and it’s adorable. But then Haha throws out Jong-kook’s six-pack. He does and it’s glorious.

Suk-jin makes up a theme song on the spot, and the Oil team ends up with the proxy.

Elsewhere Hong Rok-gi is bombarded by both teams, so he holds a dance-off to see who will obtain his shares. It’s actually pretty funny to watch the extent to which the cast will go to get into their good graces.

For instance Park So-hyun says she’d like a boyfriend, and Kwang-soo immediately declares his love for her. Kwang-soo: “Age doesn’t matter!” So-hyun: “To me it does!”

With a final test to say a few words to his listeners, Rok-gi gives a hug to Haha and Suk-jin… before handing off his proxy to Shin-hye. Hahaha, figures.

So-hyun is caught between choosing between the two teams just as their coffee order arrives. Ji-hyo and Kwang-soo waste no time to sabotage that maneuver, but Jae-suk ends up with the proxy anyway.

With two more shares out in the open, the teams rush to find their remaining shareholders. Anchorwoman Park Sun-young looks disappointed that Suk-jin has come alone, saying, “I can wait a little longer.” Hehehe.

Meanwhile, Haha and Ji-hyo corner the M.I.B. boys, and distract them just long enough so that Haha can make off with the proxy. Ha, sneaky but clever.

The Heodang Brothers are busy swaying the announcer’s heart upstairs, not that I can blame her. Pair that with Jae-suk’s entrance and she hands her shares to the Fashion team.

Both teams rush over to warmly greet Nam CP (the show’s producer-in-charge) with hugs and compliments. Jae-suk even gives the high-level exec a piggyback ride when Kwang-soo notices the already-signed proxy on his desk. Oho!

So Kwang-soo makes off with the proxy in hand, bringing the share count to 4 to 3 in favor of the Fashion team. Now they just need to find the Girl’s Day members for their last few shares.

But Shin-hye’s already two steps ahead of them as she pulls the idol girls aside, and the ladies greet each other in deep bows. It’s not long before they’re joined by the others, and Jae-suk greets his former teammates.

The Oil team tries to impress, but it’s Shin-hye’s dancing skills that win the girls’ hearts. Now armed with five proxies, the Fashion team runs to the meeting room. Not that the other team will stand for that as Jong-kook steals a proxy with his teeth.

Poor Shin-hye collapses in her chair in exhaustion as her teammates file in after her. In the scuffle, Jae-suk manages to steal the proxy back, and few more struggling seconds later, the Fashion team sits in their seats.

It’s time to count their pennies since only one of the winning team members will be the true heir to the RM empire. The team swipes their bankbooks to see who has the most in their accounts, and Gary gripes, “There’s 100 Won in this one!” Ha, that’s like a dime.

At least he has more money than Shin-hye whose bankbooks total a whopping 1,700 Won. Things look good for Jin-hyuk who has a cool million Won and change.

It comes down to Woo-bin who has about 50 bucks until the last bankbook… adds another hundred bucks. Which means Jin-hyuk inherits the RM Group name and gold for the win.

Woo-bin Oppa! <3

Also, when I was watching this episode and saw the head-wrestling scene I thought, "I hope she picks the frame with Jae-suk and Haha for the top screencap!" And there it is. You're totally on my wavelength, brah.

Thank you for the recap. This ep. was sooo funny and I loved the guests. I really loved YJS. I think he is a really good host in his variety shows (I love him in Happy Together) and I thought he was hilarious at times in this ep. as well.

I have two questions: 1--Donggap means (or implies) that CJH and LKS were born the same year, right? And 2-- What does "dae sunbae" mean, please? (I know what a sunbae is, but not what a dae sunbae is). Thank you for any answers.

1- yes
2- dae means large or great. So a dae sunbae is someone who is a sundae by a lot. Here, the dae sunbae is a veteran in the industry.

Dae just means "big"...so he's a super senior (sunbae).

Thank you for the recap!

I thought Park ShinHye was really quiet at first but she more than made up for it in the final challenge. She was so competitive and fierce! That part with Girl's Day was really funny even though it was a given that they would give it to Jaesuk's team. I did like getting to see them interact with so many different celebrities.

i wish they had allowed Jihyo to swap out for Jong Kook at the end of the water head butt battle just because it's obvious that Jong Kook's not going to use his strength against a girl, although it was funny when they called ShinHye hyungsoonim afterwards. I usually don't like them making challenges easier for women but whenever Jong Kook is up against girls, he never plays seriously because he knows he can overpower them easily and feels bad about it so it ends up feeling really unbalanced. I don't expect them to do that for nametag ripping races obviously (and I don't want them to) but for this kind of game, I kind of wish they would.

I can't blame the anchorwoman (who is very pretty) for choosing Choi Jin Hyuk over Kwangsoo. I love the Giraffe but I'd choose the pretty boy too!

Thanks for the recap, Gummimochi!

There was so much pretty for this ep, I almost couldn't focus on the plot - but did think that the RM were exceptionally sharp with the retorts between themselves and guests.

Good episode!

This episode reeked of guest pandering imo. I had no doubt once I saw the three of them on one team that they would win. It also seemed like the RM weren't putting forth their best effort which takes some of the fun out of the show.

Kwang-soo is becoming annoying. He needs to tone it down a bit.

It would have been more bearable if the guests had been more interesting but the best I could say for them is that Jin-hyuk and Woo-bin are hilarious and adorable together, but there weren't too many moments that showcased that.

Totally agree with you. It was quite obvious the RM were throwing the games to the guests from the get go. They even made excuses to trade their bankbooks away. It took the enjoyment out of the episode for me and annoyed me. Is it an order from the top to throw the game so that the drama show can get milk the maximum promotion efforts from the variety appearance? I'm not going to watch it if they play such dirty tricks.

Giraffe has been overdoing it for a long time. He is grating on me too.

The boy guests didn't talk much and had pretty bland variety personality. They were there for their looks and their great physiques. One of them appeared in ep 138 and he was bland then too. Really boring for variety. I don't like the girl as she was the one who crashed the mission in episode 121, but have to give her props for giving maximum efforts.

Agreed. I think the producer and show runners are running out of ideas. That or the fact that the cast have grown in popularity so much that they now can just tamper with game storyline, and the producer just let all happen. The guest stars factor also important. Actually RM does not need guest stars all the time, the 7 of them already strong players. The PD's should emphasis on that more and more.

I think it had more to do with the guests all doing an on going drama, so they could not risk any game that could result in any one of them getting hurt, so the games where rather boring anyway, but yeah like many such themed RM episodes it was rather too clear that RM cast where giving way to allow the guest a win. As siad a 1000 times before this is not really a game show where who wins is the important thing, the important thing is simple, at the end of the episode..was it fun?..for me this time it got a fail, I spent more time pushing the FF button than watching the show.

My favorite part would have to be the water-throwing-in-your-face scene where Jong Kook and Jae Suk were fighting and somehow Gary got drenched with a bucket of water! Couldn't stop laughing at that!

It wasnt a good episode by any stretch. It was clear the whole episode was engineered to let the guest team win.

The Yellow team barely put in any effort in the opening pull plug game. Kwang Soo in particular, was just putting on a major slapstick act to the point I fast forwarded. The second game was not much better with Haha and Kwang Soo more interested in throwing water at Jong Kook than winning. Third game, you put Jong Kook and Shin Hye on and there was no way Jong Kook was going to push his precious female dongsaeng into the water.

Last game was the most obviously "engineered" towards the guest team. You have the shareholders, and they are always going to give the letter of attorney to the guest team out of courtesy. To make it even more blatant, they even put Girls Day there. Even Haha knew to point out Girls' Day would give it to Jae Suk - that was how blatant it was.

I understand giving guests some spotlight and leeway, but this episode was pathetic.

I did laugh at two points - when Gary became the victim of the Jong Kook - Jae Suk water splashing, and when Suk Jin's hair dye was exposed.

Lastly, Kwang Soo needs to TONE DOWN. He's gotten so popular through RM, but now he's just became this loud, betrayal slapstick caricature, whose only mode seems to be loud, louder and loudest.

I have to agree with you about the engineering of the episode, it was clearly a PR move for Heirs. But again, considering how strongly SBS promoted the show and how much hype the drama created even before premiering, I think it wasn't a decision from the RM production team but a decision that came from someone much, much higher on the food chain.

The rest... Well I still enjoyed the episode and laughed quite a bit, so let's agree to disagree.

I am curious though. Why do you feel like Kwang Soo has to tone down his performance? I've read some comments in other forums that express the same and I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if I'm immune to being bothered by his character.

Me three!!

Agree that this episode is 'engineered' to let the guests win. It seems to me a bit rushing also in terms of creating the game ideas that fit w/ the guests.

Agree also on UR opinion about Kwangsoo, he does need to tone down. Lately I've been tired watching him being way overacted as well.

Even though this is not the best episode, I have to admit--I enjoy this only because of WoonBin, hehehe...
WoonBin McDreamy, although at some points I see him a bit clumsy & for some reason it reminds me of ChunHee haha...

In regards to Kwang-soo and his performance, I think the difference comes in where at the beginning of him looking for a RM persona to call his own, he did his betrayals in a rather diffident manner (kind of the way a hyena sneaks in to grab some carcass away from a feeding lion, careful, quiet and sneaky). As he gained more confidence in orchestrating his betrayals he became much more in-your-face with his actions. So, along with fan service, now he's just outright blatant in his attacks and in some instances, his comments. At this point he's like an over-inflated balloon, puffed up with fan-love and ego.
I've always found the behavior to be distasteful but tolerable. Now it's just obnoxious and seeing how much interference he's causing in the games, totally aggravating. The PD really needs to rein him in.

Some many Giraffe haters...why? . Personally I don't have a problem with any of Lee Kwang Soo's antics, it's part of his character.

Over the course of 3 years and almost 200 episode everyone's characters have been tweaked. In 20 episodes they'll be slightly altered from where they are now.

Honestly some of the newer games wouldn't be tolerable without the RM making them funnier with their usual banter.

I can't wait for the episode with T.O.P and I'm also looking forward to another episode where there aren't any guests.

The 'win the shares' competition played out rather similarly to a battle involving different classes (such as in Heirs), where the person/group that has the strongest affiliations with the shareholders wins the share, interesting. Lee Kwang Soo had more of a disadvantage as he's got fewer connections.

Park Shin Hye was on fire this episode, the girl was driven, thinks and acts fast, and it didn't hurt that the small missions in the share-winning round were to her favor (dancing, aegyo). And how adorable was PSH and Girls' Day in showering each other with matching compliments and simultaneous bows? Kim Woo Bin and Choi Jin Hyuk were fantastic as well, they were so memorable being dorks in the plunger-pulling game.

First, thanks to gummimochi for the recap.
The episode is not bad, the guest were interactive and somehow entertaining. But I get bored easily when SJH will not actively participating in the game. I noticed that she's like that if they want the guest to win. And also when the guest is a girl. That is why sometimes I like RM when they don't have guest because they're very competitive w/ each other.

I'm pretty sure with the plunger Kwang Soo was worst off going first , cause if the plungers have been in place for a certain period of time it makes it harder/more resistant for it to be pulled off from the surface (this is from personal experience though it could just be me lol).

I did enjoy the episode though, it's always fun watching the RM members themselves bickering amongst themselves, I couldn't stop laughing at them throwing water at Yoo Jae Suk. I do wish the guest spoke more though but they did give their all in doing the missions, which I can't complain about BUT yeah the last portion was definitely in favor of the guests, lets be real here.

Why is it so funny watching grown men pull plungers from a pillar? I laughed and laughed.
Why is it even funnier to see Big Guy Jong Kook easily push 2 men off the platform, and then just give in to PSH saying, Oh, I don't know! and then goes into the water himself?
I laughed till tears flowed.
I don't usually watch RM, but I super love this ep.

Some ppl on the thread of "Kim Woo Bin infuses fresh blood into Friends 2" mentioned his feminine looking hand with long finger nails in that 1st poster. That is indeed what his hand looks like, as we can see from the screen shot beneath the 2 actresses playing with spoons. Feminine-looking hand with long nails! Somehow that doesn't seem to match the rest of his body or image.

Choi Jin Hyuk and Lee Min Ho is not much different in terms of age? If I am not wrong....but one is always casted for older characters and the other for younger .....just look at the Heirs! Their age gap is like 10 years?? in the drama XD

anyway, I enjoyed this episode. The guests were fun and Jin Hyuk was a good sport in the water game! And Eun Hye as a guest please...too bad her new drama is another channel, if not it might be easier to get her as a guest!

I like this episode but like everyone says the result is predictable. They invite the guests and will give in go them as request by the management. It is all part of marketing promotion and I expect RM to lose. There are some classic moments:
1) jong kook splash water on Jae Suk Hyung and Gary become the biggest 'victim'. Jong kook look smug when he bullies his hyung.
2) Jong kook at splash on the face and the timing is good.
3) Haha splash water and order the guest to open his leg.
4) Jong Kook push The male guests easily.. Like a piece of cake to him... He is like a muscular bull!!! No joke..
5) The F4 theme is hilarious.. The caption herbivore, Gym King is so funny
6) The plunger game and the two male guests were funny when they place the plunger on the wall.
7) Jong kook six pack abs!!!! He not that shy to show off anymore.

Dislike:
1) Kwang Soo overact his role.. Yes he need to tone down his act.. He keep splashing water on his hyung. HaHa did not do that and he respect his hyungs.. I know it is his role to act dumb and irritating but that was too much and he even pull Jong Kook down at the water game and mess up the games.

2) Ji Hyo ordering Kwang Soo to help her in the opening.. I knew bad Ji Hyo but still... Anyway she does have lesser screen time and I rather she challenge Shin Hye in the head game.

3) Jong Kook gives in to Shin Hye.. Everyone know that he is a gentleman.. No surprise that he gave in to a girl..

4) The male guest was fine but park shin Hye is just ok to me.. Sometimes quiet then at the end of the game aggressive.. Not my favorite guest though.

Loveline - Yoon Eun Hye when R u coming? :D

What's up with Ji-Hyo this past few episodes? She barely got any screen time and she barely spoke... She always in the background and often seems super bored. She also seems freaking tired all the time and she often doesn't play all the games. That's sad that she seems to fade into the back lately

I do not think SJH got less screen time. Let's recall ep 165 she was popular choice in voting time, finding the book first, getting the photo on the kite first, climbing two times, actively asking in the apartment, running here and there. Ep 164 she picked the cards & bidding Ah-In farewell, shopping and cooking together. Ep 163 no need to comment. Ep 162 she and B2ST won the prize as she was very quick in untying the knots and together they could solve the tangram puzzle. Ep 161 she did not participate much in physical games against Shinhwa but she was active during the final nametag-tearing game.

This was an amusing enough episode and provided a few chuckles so I'm not gonna complain too much. However, like others noted, it was fairly obvious that the guest team was gonna win, especially with the last mission.

Regarding Ji-Hyo, I've also noticed that she's all but disappeared. Unless she's the main focus, like the Princess episode, she's barely even there. At this point, her presence is practically a formula: a couple of references to MC, one Kwang-Soo head-slap, and homegirl's done for the day. I actually love her for not fighting for screen-time all the time, but there is such a thing as being too much of a wallflower. I hope she shows up more since she used to be one of my absolute favorites.

As always, thank you for the recap.

@ Andrea: I think the rest have already addressed Kwang Soo's problem better than I can do

Re Ji Hyo's screentime: Put hide and seek back, or put her in a chasing team with Commander. She will shine again

I've never watched this show before but I decided to check it out because of Woo-bin, Jin-hyuk and Shin-hye. I nearly peed in my pants watching Jin-hyuk and Woo-bin trying to get those plungers up! So hilarious!

since kwang soo clearly cares alot about screentime and feedback, i'm surprised his manager or someone have not told him to rein it in after the comments online about him

Thank you GM for the recap! Excellent choice for the top screencap! I agree with so many that while I enjoyed several moments in this episode, overall I found it underwhelming. I think the combination of meek variety guests (though that won't diminish my ❤️ for CJH, KWB, & PSH) & the last several episodes being SO GOOD really raised my expectations & the result was just meh :/ And maybe I've got my Giraffe fangirl blinders on, but I don't find LKS over-the-top.

it would have been better if they had placed the guests in different teams. the moment the grouping was announced, it felt like there was no way Jae-suk's team was gonna lose.

at any rate, although this episode wasn't all that great, there were several droll moments that made me laugh like a demented hyena.

LKS has been pissing me off for a while now... it's great that he has own "persona" to maintain, but he really needs to pick the right moments to dial it up or tone it down -- or at least show some restraint when he's doing his shtick.

Yeah. I was a little bit curious too about the bandage put around SJH's wrist. And also during the game from the look of her eyes it was pretty obvious that she looked very tired. Wonder if that causes her lack of participation in the games this ep

The pandering to the guests was really off putting this episode. They could have made it more subtle by distributing the teams better

Park Shin-Hye is really amazing. Shes really great in everything she does and very talented too. Her charms and cheerful character gives a lively atmosphere in the show together with castmates. Simple and sweet yet easy to love.....
This episode is really nice.

I thought Park Shin-hye was adorable! She was quiet at first, but then really hit her stride midway through the episode. Woo-bin was gorgeously hunky, as usual, but Choi Jin-hyuk really took center stage as best guest in this episode. Who cares if they pander to the guests? It was still so much fun! PLUNGERS! LOL!

Very good epidode imo ! About some of the comments of this episode:
- RM cast let the guest win: what's wrong as long as the episode still offers good laugh? You want a RM with serious competition or a RM with casual game full of laughter ? If you want the first, you'd better watcth sport. This is variety show, the most important factor is FUNNY TO WATCH. who win or lose is not important.
- Kwang Soo is too annoyed: sound like LKS haters !!! At least KS's actions are interested enough to be aired. I love the cast stabs each other. It's funny than everyone just act normal.
- Song Ji Hyo has not much air time: No surprise. Because she has the weakest talk skill among RM cast, so when she can't shine in the physical game, she disappears. And even she has won in so many episodes, it's just that PD wanted to buff her Ace character or other RM members either focused on their personas (which bad/dumb traits overwhelm good/smart trait(s), except KJK) or just didn't take JH seriously because she's a girl.

I'm really confused about Ji Hyo and the Midas touch (gold) part? I'm not Korean so I do not get first-hand news and I tried searching it up online but to no avail. Anyone who cares to enlighten me? Thanks!

@ Cheryl
Song Ji Hyo wins a lot of the competitions where often times the winner's prize involves gold. She is the most prolific winner on Running Man, even more so than the Commander (imo). This is why she has the "Midas touch". Not to mention she often has luck on her side (just look at her winning that rock, paper, scissor game earlier).

As for her appearance on this episode, I was still pretty satisfied with it. As long as RM keeps the Monday Couple love line going, I'm happy. Squee! Lastly, her bossing Kwang Soo in the beginning was her being in character as a chaebol heiress.

Love this show and will keep watching and supporting it.

Shin-hye was so fiercely competitive, smart move on asking Jong-kook to tie the towel for her. But why did she call Woo-bin with 'Woo-binaa', he's older than her.

Ooh I think I know why... I remember reading an article about how Kim woo bin does not consider people younger than him his friends and so Park Shin Hye doesn't qualify. So Shin Hye retorted with how she is his senior in the industry so he should either talk to her respectfully or become her friend.. he obviously chose the latter?? The girl sure is sassy!!
