Choi Min cast as Jeon Ji-hyun’s fiancé in You From Another Star

SBS’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama You From Another Star starring Jeon Ji-hyun and Kim Soo-hyun has already started rehearsals, but it’s only now that we’re getting a verdict on the second lead casting. I guess the news is more that idol-actor Yunho (Yawang), who was originally rumored to be the second lead, has officially turned down the role. I’m pretty sure even his fans aren’t huge advocates for his acting, so I doubt it’s tragic news for anyone.

Signing on in his absence then is newish actor Choi Min, whose dramas include Pasta, My Love Madame Butterfly, and incidentally Yunho’s Heading to the Ground, and drama specials Ordinary Love and Rock, Rock, Rock. He’s someone I recognize but wouldn’t be able to name on the spot, but I imagine playing Jeon Ji-hyun’s boyfriend in a miniseries ought to change that.

He’ll be playing Park Hae-jin’s younger brother, a second-generation chaebol who’s engaged to Jeon Ji-hyun’s diva actress. Her character is named the punny Chun Songie meaning “a thousand stems” (of roses, etc.) and is described as having a terrible personality. She’s especially demanding when it comes to her fiancé, who mostly gets dragged around like her puppy (sounds like My Sassy Girl, which would be fun). He’s endlessly determined to win her love anyway and sets up grand gestures and schemes left and right, but ends up the perennial second best. Poor guy, he really is the textbook Second Lead.

The drama stars Kim Soo-hyun as an alien who crash-lands in 17th-century Joseon and lives 400 years to the present where he meets his match in a prickly top star, and promises fantasy, fusion, and rom-com hijinks galore.

You From Another Star follows Heirs and premieres in December on SBS.

Well I am not sure if this addition puts the female main character in a better spot; bad personality, fiance + lover, hmmm

Yeah, I already don't like her.

I think she'll play it well. That is, if you liked her in Sassy Girl (her character sounds similiarish to that role). As for Choi Min, I already feel the heart break man. Just give up on her!

Already, lol. The surprise news is the petition against Yunho's casting actually worked. Seems the outcry was fervent and very vocal. Now, we wait and see how the drama turns out.

He played the Head Waiter apparently. I had to search around a bit because I didn't remember either. I think his role was pretty small, though.

Super handsome, guy none the less.

I got a sense of him from the part of Madame Butterfly that I watched and he has a lot of bubbly charisma. He may be a limited actor, but I think he'll be quite cute as a put-upon puppy.

I don't think his role is as big as Park Hae Jin, even though he is the fiance.

I'm not fond of last minute casting changes, but replacing a too-young, not particularly charismatic actor with a seasoned, charismatic veteran usually works out well if everything else is holding up. The best example being Vigo Mortensen getting tapped to play Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings movies over Stuart Townsend.

I don't think it's a last minute casting change. The other dude didnt sign on at all.

This is shaping nicely. I don't know him but I'm glad the (bad) idol wasn't kept in the show. I saw a detailed relationship chart & this might be fun.

What role will Park Hae Jin's character play? For a while I thought he was going to be the fiancé.

Yunho isn't a /bad idol/... he's just a bad (read: terribad) actor.

(Though I guess it counts as bad idoling if he can't even act well enough to keep his own fans enthusiastic about his dramas.)

jokes aside, I'm glad I can be 100% excited about this drama now~

you know this "prickly diva" and "thousand roses" thing reminds me of the Russian superstar Alla Pugatšova song Million Red Roses....

I honestly am trying hard to remember this guy cause I have seen Pasta at least 5 times (it is easygoing and relaxing, calms my nerves.) but I still cant place him

Me too, I've watched Pasta at least 3x (for the same reasons ^^) but I can't remember him to save my life. I'm just glad it's not Yunho and at least it's a new face lol

Oh boy. I can already tell I'm gonna have second lead syndrome with this guy. I feel bad that he's so new, and playing the second lead. I'm not a huge fan of Kim Soo-hyun, but I recognize that he's a good actor. I've never stuck with any of his projects (or seen some of them) long enough for him to make an impression on me. But I've seen Pasta, so I saw this guy in it. I think. Who did he play?

Anyway, I hope this helps him jump-start his career.

I'm looking forward to this drama, and not at the same time. I hope they make Jeon Ji-hyun's character relatable, or I'm gonna have a hard time liking her prickly, sutck-up actress character.

It's kind of interesting that we're starting to see dramas where the female lead is the one with the awful personality (and not really the Manic Pixie Dream Girl type a la Sassy Girl). I can always get behind diversity in the portrayal of female characters but I'm not sure I like it when the male lead becomes super simple and uncomplicated in return. I really hope Kim Soo Hyun's character isn't some male Candy and is actually really jaded about human mortality and behavior.

Oh no.. The drama hasnt even started yet and I already feel bad because h wont get the girl... That description of Chun Song sounds despicable but if hes going to try that hard to win her heart, it still sucks!

All I can say was; OH THANK GOD! I like Yunho, I really do, but -- the man can't act to even save his life. I've watched Pasta too, though I cannot place this guy. Imma just have to re-watch it during my free time. Still, I'm gonna approach this drama with caution.

As a drama fan, I'm breathing a sigh of relief that Yunho didn't sign on. I can deal with my oppa not acting for quite a while. As a DBSK fan, though, I'm pissed 'cause that means he has no gigs for himself in the meantime and the group doesn't seem to be celebrating their 10th anniversary in epic legendary fashion.

Though I'd love to watch this guy and the rest of the solid cast for the drama. :)

don't you think he's better in the past? he's pretty decent in his banjun dramas with other members, and there's video of dbsk playing prank on junsu, he put up a good villain act, pretty believable. i kind of wonder how he doesn't good in dramas, it comes out as he's trying too hard.

it saddening me honestly, since i used to thought he got the best potential as actors more than yoochun. even junsu that's the most cringe worthy and totally should be kept out from acting world actually shine in Musical drama industry, it's like a Huge slap for me LMAO.

OMG YES. Thank god that someone else is replacing Yunho. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of him in terms of him as TVXQ, but not him in dramas though. Just no.... please.

I guess my prayers have been answered! :D

I don't mind whoever plays the fiance, so long as it's not yu-nho-who.

So this guy is Choi Min Sung, right?

Choi Min is also a background actor that I have been following for a few years. Not the same guy. I MINED him from a car commercial back in the day. LOL

He was also in "My Bittersweet Life" as the character Choi Joon-Young, really liked him in MBL and "My Love, Madame Butterfly". It will be interesting to see what type of personality he will portray. Yes, he is cute, and so young and so tall!

I've watch Pasta but i really couldn't remember his character. Did he just play a small role there? Anyway i pretty sure his acting wasn't as bad as Yunho since i see nobody is reacting in a negative way and even if i don't remember him i like everyone's acting in Pasta so i'm okay with it. I still think the real 2nd lead is Park Hae Jin's character, the fiance is probably just 3rd lead.

Like in Spiderman where MJ fiance is just a secondary character. Park Hae Jin is probably gonna play a character like Harry (Peter/Spiderman frenemy).

Anyways, I'd still watch this for it's Jun Ji-hyun's comeback to dramaland. :)

And oh, he looks... cutie patootee!
