UEE and Jung Il-woo begin script rehearsals for Gold Rainbow

It’s pretty crazy that Gold Rainbow has such a long childhood segment that leads UEE and Jung Il-woo are just now starting script reads for the drama that’s been on the air for weeks, but at least we know they’re coming soon. Not that Kim Yoo-jung and Oh Jae-mu aren’t suuuuuper adorable together, but you kind of want to get to the part where they’re old enough for kisses.

I’ve been casually watching the show, and most of the parental drama is ridiculous and over-the-top (there are birth secrets galore, a company takeover plot, and WAY too many shouty adults in this universe), but the brood of orphans with adoptive father Kim Sang-joong are really sweet. It’s great to watch Kim Sang-joong play a genuinely good-hearted father since he usually plays villains with such aplomb, and his daddy-daughter relationship with Kim Yoo-jung is especially winning. I pretty much only watch for her scenes with Dad or Oh Jae-mu and tune out the rest.

Hopefully the adult cast changeover will mean more screen time for the two lead characters overall, which I wouldn’t mind in the least. They include second leads Lee Jae-yoon and Cha Ye-ryun as UEE’s older brother and sister, and new addition Lee Ji-hoon (You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin, School 2013) as her younger brother with the twin sister. The rest of the siblings are actually yet to be cast. Their younger counterparts will stick around for another two weeks, and UEE and Jung Il-woo are set to appear in Episode 12.

Gold Rainbow airs Saturdays and Sundays on MBC.

Girlfriday said "Lee Ji Hoon (You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin)" and my heart skipped a happy beat because I was thinking it was the too-perfect-to-be-true-restaurant-owner-oppa Lee Ji Hoon, but then I continued reading and said the Lee Ji Hoon who signed onto Golden Rainbow is playing Uee's younger brother...... and THEN I remembered that there were 2 Lee Ji Hoon's in the Lee Soon Shin drama and realized it was the younger 1988) Lee Ji Hoon that signed on..... Don't get me wrong, I love the younger Lee Ji Hoon as well, but it was just my heart hoping and willing that the older Lee Ji Hoon would be signing onto another drama, after be SO. UNDERUTILIZED (seriously) in Lee Soon Shin
Nonetheless, I can't wait for the upcoming episodes of Golden Rainbow with the adult counterparts stepping in!!!!

Yes, I totally don't understand why he what...he was even doing in that drama? He was totally underutilized and...useless. Kind of like Kim Bum in his most recent sageuk. That was a useless role with no character development at all...

I have tolerated the very stupid and stereotypical characters and poor storylines just to see il woo on my screen again. Luckily the main couple is already cute now. One more week to go!

+1 on that. I am trying to wade through it long enough to get to the adult parts, but if they are just now starting rehearsals that might be a while. I promised myself I would never get sucked into another one of these 50 episode makjang-fests again, but somehow I always seem to watch it, albeit with a lot of FF.

Just that it would be hard to follow the story and connect with the characters no? I suggest ff the episodes to at least get the gist of the story. Its tolerable at the moment although there are hair pulling situations in every epsiode though!

Hope that helps

I would pick a few episodes and FF a lot. There is a lot of useless and really stupid stuff in there, but watch enough to get the initial setup figured out. You could probably totally skip 7 and 8 unless you want to see just how utterly stupid some of these characters are.

I'm watching Golden Rainbow as well. It's way over the top and the cliche-o-meter has hit the danger zone. The orphan kids are wailing so much, it's gone past annoying to mind numbing, and the mother-in-law must have teeth marks on all her furniture with all the scenery chewing she's doing but I'm really enjoying it. Old fashioned melodrama at it's finest. Also Kim Sang-joong is one fine looking older gentleman.

This is so over the top on clichés that I actually find myself keeping track of them in a way - like how many of the main ones did they hit in this segment? :D

While a couple of the kids are cute, that incessant poorly done wailing is really getting old, especially where they have to focus up close on every kids face every time to convince us that they are all whining about something again.

It makes me wish that I'd bought shares in Acme Kdrama Fake Tears Co when they went public. Another Samsung controlled company, perhaps?

Agree with you about Kim Sang-joon being "one fine looking older gentleman." That ahjussi is fine, godknows I watched City Hunter JUST for him!

I'm using my foolproof method of getting through long running weekend dramas: fast forward during the boring screaming and crying. I'll keep watching Golden Rainbow until the older counterparts have had a couple of episodes and then I'll give its final verdict. Right now the kids are too cute for me to give it up...

Oh yeah... this is one genre that I have absolutely no qualms editing out whole characters or plotlines in the name of keeping it watchable. The way I figure it, "boy that second lead would be obnoxious if I'd met her more than once", "What psychotic mother-in-law?", and "did that shrill grandmother die? I haven't seen her in a while." are all far better things to be thinking than "Is this OTP's cuteness worth the migraine I feel coming on?".

Ugh episode 12??? I thought the childhood part was just up to 10? I can't take those kids especially the twins. If it was just the teens I could have handled it like in May Queen. I had to stop and just read recaps. I'll wait for the adult cast.

I've watched the first seven episodes and I'm loving it. Especially the kids! Some of the adults I could do without (Ahn Nae-sung's character is pretty pointless most of the time, but he's funny other times, and down right irritating the rest of the time) and all the shouty grown-ups, especially grandmother and her daughter (and the daughter's son, urgh!) are really irritating. But, you can believe how happy I am to hear that the adult cast is doing script reads. I cannot wait to get to Jun Il-woo and Uee and the other adult characters.

And I cannot tell you how ecstatic I am to hear that Lee Ji-hoon is going to play one of the other kids as an adult. I adore him! I hope the others get cast soon with actors I either like or have seen before. But I thought Uee and Jung Il-woo and the others would first appear in episode 10? But I'm glad that's not the case, since that's this weekend. However, I see some live shoots in the future for the cast. I hope they all get enough sleep! Stay healthy, guys! Fighting!

I'm happy with Lee Ji-hoon too!!! I wonder if he will remain the selfish bullying type that he is. And who will be the twin sister? I want Nam Bo-ra, just like in Shark =)

haha You know what would be really funny? If Lee Ji Hoon can put his own twist into this twin-brother character and make the adult version of him a total 180 degrees turn around for him and make him into a squirmish character (kinda like his character in "You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin)... now THAT would be a hoot to watch =)

I've been skipping all the adult stuff. The children are amazing and really fun to watch. It's fascinating watching the kid playing Young won talk so much compared to his character in GD. Can't wait for Uee and Jung Il Woo!!! I hope they'll have sizzling chemistry like Uee and Joo won in OB

A few of them are good - like Queen of the Classroom. But far too many, especially with younger kids just turn it into some kind of cry-fest, like this one. Except for a couple of the older kids, I don't think they are very good - perhaps that is why they concentrate so much on the mass whining jags.

I would have watched this for Jung Il-Woo. .. but I don't really like Kim Yoo-Jung.

Btw apparently Jung Il-Woo was a high school bully/jjang and a really mean one too. He stole money off kids and bullied them.. it was so bad that even his high school friends admitted it..
But hopefully he's changed! I don't want to see him in that kind of light.

"I want to slap them with a fish", good one :D

I thought the adults were starting on ep 10 too. And I'm kind of surprised that they didn't start to film earlier. They had sooo much time (then again if there's dad, it might be difficult for him to juggle two time periods at once...but still)...

dude it's the kid from Cheer Up, Mr Kim! He's a great little actor. I hated his guts at the beginning and gradually he became more and more charming. He made the character grow on me like a fungus. I might check this out to see him...Oh Jae-Mu, is he?

Truth to be told I really hate long running drama, but I cant help it, the last drama jung il woo played was in 2012, its been too long already T.T

The story is too dramatic not to mention boringgg, and I found some of the kids are annoying, but it was good watching them having a really cute siblings relationship. I like those. I just hope it'll get better, /sigh/ so I had to wait another week?

Waah Lee Ji Hoon (88) is signed on? I was gonna iffy watch it just for Jung Il Woo but my School oppa is signed on too...maybe I should watch it def...but I really dislike weekend dramas with birth secrets and stuff...It was so hard trying to finish You're the Best...I'm only on episode 34 and I started during the 1st week when it aired...kinda gave up halfway...

I love this show, although reading the comments, I feel like the only one, lol. The kids are cute, the twins are little shits but they defend each other against outsiders, which is sweet and realistic. The little romance that's brewing between Kim Yoo Jung and the boy is adorably innocent, and the Dad is loving and awesome. I'm going to miss the kids when they leave but I'm looking forward to seeing the adults.

You're not the only one ;) I like the show very much as well! Though all the makjang is nearly killing me but it somehow doesn't bother me which astounds me because YTBLSS was annoying as hell and there was less makjang than we have here :P :D

I love the kids and especially dad! Because I am used to him being asshole daddy from City Hunter so it's nice to see him being good to his kids ^^

I am also going to miss the kids though I also can't wait for the adults =) And now that LJH comes into play I am even more excited (loved him in YTBLSS and he was also adorable in the variety show Cool Kidz on the block!)

The same. I am loving the kids and Dad, while tolerating the rest. Although, Dad hasn't changed that much from city hunter. He still kidnaps babies. Snerk.

Grandma is the strangest. She is evil, except when she gets a personality transplant and is really nice to Beak Won.

I have been watching this series since it first aired. Yes, there has been teeth gnashing moments - with annoyingly nasal voiced grandma , cowardly hyung, and the still-bad Boss Moon from 2 weeks playing the bad hyung from 1st generation batch of orphans, whining-crying younger kids, the bully step brother - but there have been many cute n touching times. The daughter-father relationship is sweet n yes Dad is a hot ajusshi; the cute triangle that is already forming with 3 oldest kids.

Glad to hear that Lee Ji-Hoon-88 is joining the cast. Too bad it is not LJH-79 whose Young Hoon oppa character was my fav in YTBLSS.
