2013 MBC Drama Awards

Year-end awards are here! At least the first of the bunch is, with MBC putting on its ceremony the night before SBS and KBS follow suit with theirs.

These awards ceremonies are historically more like thank-you gifts to actors than actual acting awards based on strength of performances, and it’s a fact I’ve long accepted as part of the business. It is a business, after all, and often ratings are as important (or, ha, more important) than artistic vision or production quality. So keep that in mind as you read through the list, because there are bound to be one or two or maybe twenty decisions that you don’t agree with. Some are certainly odd enough that despite knowing that the stations do this every year, I’m still perplexed (or indignant on behalf of the nominees who didn’t win—or worse, those who weren’t even nominated) at the winners list.

This year, Empress Ki was the big winner, which is a bit of a surprise in that the drama isn’t even half through its run; it seems like it would be more of a 2014 award pick than a 2013 one. But on the other hand I’m not that surprised since MBC often doesn’t have many big hits, so they’re keen to give the nods to whichever shows drew the ratings. It’s certainly more understandable than awarding Drama of the Year to… wait for it… Hundred Year Inheritance? What the what?

It’s also why I’m sad that some dramas I really enjoyed didn’t get anything (ahem, Two Weeks), though I’m not surprised by it.

WINNERS LIST

New Actor Award: Oh Chang-seok (Princess Aurora),
Lee Sang-yub (Would You Give Love Away)
New Actress Award: Jeon So-min (Princess Aurora),
      Baek Jin-hee (Empress Ki)
Writer of the Year: Jang Young-chul, Jung Kyung-soon (Empress Ki),
      Gu Yeon-sook (Hundred Year Inheritance)
Actor of the Year, awarded by PDs from all three broadcasters: Ha Ji-won (Empress Ki)
Child Actor Award: Kim Hyang-gi, Seo Shin-ae, Kim Sae-ron,
      Chun Bo-geun, Lee Young-yoo
(Queen’s Classroom)
Golden Acting Award, Actor: Kim Sang-joong (Gold Rainbow),
      Jung Bo-seok (Hundred Year Inheritance),
      Jo Jae-hyun (Scandal)
Golden Acting Award, Actress: Kim Bo-yeon (Princess Aurora),
Lee Hae-sook (I Summon You Gold),
Cha Hwa-yeon (Would You Give Love Away)
Popularity Award: Lee Seung-gi (Gu Family Book),
      Ha Ji-won (Empress Ki)
Best Couple Award: Lee Seung-gi, Bae Suzy (Gu Family Book)
Lifetime Achievement Award: Park Won-sook

So Ha Ji-won led the Empress Ki sweep, beginning with her Daesang and also managing to pick up a popularity award as well. Fashion-wise, I… can’t say I love this look. Individually the parts aren’t bad—despite the hairdo, which is flat and old-fashioned—though I think it’s the silver Dynasty power sleeves (power cap sleeves?) that push the look over into dated territory.

It’s possible Ji Chang-wook (Empress Ki) is wearing more makeup and hair product than his co-star Ha Ji-won. So pretty, but tonight his look screams campy.

Of the Empress Ki bunch, I think it’s Baek Jin-hee who wins for this flowy, dreamy gown that she glows in. She’s such a talented actress that I’m happy for her to be moving upward. Empress Ki is not even her first MBC drama (she’s also done High Kick 3 and I Summon You, Gold) so we have to take it with a grain of salt that her award was for New Actress, but as we know, MBC likes to spread its love around to give everyone a shot at something.

Same color dress, entirely different effect: What a strange droopy chest on Han Ji-hye (I Summon You, Gold), who won a Top Excellence Award for her weekend drama (incidentally, the same award she picked up last year for May Queen). From the left side you can see that it’s a sort of front panel, but from all other angles it looks like her dress started falling off itself. Not my favorite look.

Her co-star Yeon Jung-hoon (I Summon You, Gold) looks put-together and polished, picking up an Excellence Award.

What can we say, MBC loves Kim Jae-won. He has won the same Top Excellence award for three years straight: Can You Hear My Heart in 2011, May Queen in 2012, and Scandal this year.

His co-star Shin Eun-kyung (Scandal) also won an award in the same category.

Joo-won is a good actor, no doubt, and perhaps a budding great one. But I expect his Good Doctor role to net him more acclaim for his work this year (perhaps at the KBS awards tomorrow) than his role in Level 7 Civil Servant, which actually got him an acting award here. Here’s a snippet of an exchange between the Dramabeans crew:

Javabeans: “You guys, Level 7 got an award.”
Girlfriday: “For stupidity??”
Javabeans: “Hint, it has ‘excellence’ in the title.”
Gummimochi: “Excellence of stupidity?”

Shin Se-kyung won an award for When a Man Loves. (Other nominees in her category, who did not win awards: Kim So-yeon and Park Ha-sun for Two Weeks and Lee Yeon-hee for Gu Family Book.) As an unnammed DB member wondered: “HOW DID SHE WIN AN AWARD FOR A THING SHE CANNOT DO.”

Gu Family Book wasn’t really a success of a drama in MY book, but in MBC’s it’s the drama with high-teens ratings so it did pick up a number of trophies. And I won’t argue against Lee Seung-gi, who did a solid job and beat out nominees Kwon Sang-woo and Song Seung-heon.

On the other hand, how can anybody justify giving Suzy (Gu Family Book) the Top Excellence over both Go Hyun-jung and Jung Ryeo-won? I love Suzy. She does not deserve an acting award over those two (though I could see her beating out fourth nominee Choi Kang-hee for Level 7, because, psh, Level 7). Javabeans: “How did Suzy beat Go Hyun-jung in an acting category?” Girlfriday: “Does everyone at MBC have a head injury or something?”

Lee Yubi (who looks adorable in her bright pop of red) was so good in Gu Family Book but she wasn’t even nominated for anything. Maybe I should stop trying to make sense of MBC awards. Like, ever.

I wish Hong Soo-hyun (Would You Give Love Away) had chosen a more lively look to celebrate her win, because this pink seems to fade her out, especially without bold makeup or accessories to brighten up the look.

Something tells me Lee Sang-yub is on the up-and-up; after putting in a few roles as a solid tertiary character, he’s doing well with weekend drama Would You Give Love Away, which earned him a New Actor award.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand this dress worn by UEE (Gold Rainbow). I think I kind of like it? But ti’s also like a skimpy dress worn over an even skimpier dress, with a great ol’ slit and half a side and some swoopy-stiff draping going on. Like I said, I don’t realy get it. But it’s interesting?

Uh, did Lee Jang-woo come in character as eccentric David from his current drama Pretty Man? That’s a KBS show (he’s probably here because last year’s role in MBC’s Oh Ja-ryong Is Coming netted him a New Actor award), but who knows, maybe he zoomed over after drama shoots ended for the day. I refuse to consider the possibility that this was just his planned look.

I bet Lee Yoon-ji is having a grand old time filming her ridiculous but entertaining weekend makang King’s Family, which just hit 40% ratings. But that’s for KBS, and we have to look to 2012 for her last MBC role in The King 2 Hearts. She looks awesome and confident, as she tends to do on the red carpet.

I love Lee Jung-jin, but how on earth MBC named its weekend crazy-maker Hundred Year Inheritance its Drama of the Year is beyond me. Reaction from HeadsNo2, who actually watched that show: “NO. NO…. NO WAY. REALLY. I’m in shock.”

Seo Hyun-jin seems to be doing quite well on MBC, having racked up a string of roles with the broadcaster: The Duo, Feast of the Gods, Goddess of Fire Jung-yi, and her current drama King’s Daughter Soo Baek Hyang. The white gown with red lip was a popular look of the night, and for the most part it has its desired effect. Seo’s was neither my favorite or least favorite version of the style tonight.

Honestly, I think it was the child actors and teenagers who upstaged the adults for this awards show, starting with Kim Yoo-jung (Gold Rainbow). She’s both adorable in a young-girl-growing-up way and in a full-blown Future Leading Lady way. Everything about this works.

I wonder how long she and Kim So-hyun (I Miss You) will be compared and perhaps set up as friendly rivals; they’re only a few months apart in age, and they’re both becoming popular at about the same rate (which is to say, skyrocketing to fame). I’m almost certain this is the same dress Kim So-hyun wore the night before at the MBC Entertainment Awards, which makes me love her for letting one gown do double-duty. Sweet and chic, and still just 14 years old.

Speaking of skyrocketing fame, here’s her co-star Yeo Jin-gu (I Miss You).

The entire child crew of Queen’s Classroom picked up awards in the Child Actor category, and arrived together as well. In order of appearance, we have: Kim Sae-ron, Seo Shin-ae, Lee Young-yoo, Kim Hyang-gi and Chun Bo-geun.

Minho was the only one from the crew of Medical Top Team, most of whom opted to skip the awards since they didn’t win any of their categories. I guess when your ratings averaged around 5%, there was just no winning.

Kim So-eun (Horse Healer) also does the light-dress-red-lip combo, and works the va-va-voom.

Ah, the craziness that was Princess Aurora! I’m reading the Korean media headlines about that drama and laughing my head off at the descriptions: “The drama that should never have been.” “The drama that was a waste of airtime.” “The drama that was a sub-drama.” At least its suffering cast picked up some nods, with lead actress Jeon So-min winning for New Actress.

Her co-star Oh Chang-seok (Princess Aurora) was unceremoniously killed off in one of the writer’s “death sprees,” but he also earned a New Actor trophy.

And here’s the third leg of their love triangle, Seo Ha-joon (Princess Aurora).

Kim Bo-yeon, their Princess Aurora castmate, also won an award; hers was a Golden Acting Award that is given to veterans. It’s one thing I do appreciate about the MBC Drama Awards (glass half full!), because veterans might not otherwise get awards despite often putting in as strong (or stronger) performances as their headlining co-stars.

Another Golden Acting award winner was Cha Hwa-yeon, who was in several MBC productions (I Miss You, King’s Daughter Soo Baek Hyang) but won specifically for Would You Give Love Away).

Lee Hye-sook won her Golden Acting award for I Summon You, Gold.

Kim Sang-joong (Bad Daddy forever!) won for weekend family drama Gold Rainbow.

And last but not least, Park Won-sook took home the lifetime achievement award, after putting her time in a number of MBC productions like Hundred Year Inheritance and Gold Rainbow.

Suzy over Go Hyun-jung for Top Actress?!

I understand that she shouldn't have won and if you watch her award speech she seems to know she didn't deserve it either. It's kind of sad because she was so nervous getting the award and now she's in an attitude controversy for taking too long for remembering people's names she had to thank and thanking her dog. Love Suzy, but this just gives her more and more hate.

I saw the attitude controversy. So ridiculous. They always go overboard. No, she didn't deserve the award but she doesn't deserve the reaction she's getting either for something she didn't ask for.

Thankfully there are more award shows and the holidays and this will be forgotten soon. The funniest thing is knetizens acting offended this is an award show were popularity wins or showing up wins, like that's not true for every end of the year award show ever.

i like suzy as an idol but GHJ and JRW great actress for me... i like story about lee yeon hee and father gumiho more than LSG and suzy..

0

Han Ga-in won last year so I'm not surprise Suzy won this year. It's basically MBC saying thanks for raking in the ratings because that equals money. We can bitch and moan about it but I don't see it changing in the future.

0

Well, knowing how MBC (and probably other broadcasters) racked up the awarding system...no surprise here...but it doesn't mean that Suzy acted better than Go Hyun Jung...I feel bad for her (Suzy) for getting all the pressure and hate 'cuz of what MBC put on her

The nomination list was a big WTF? http://asianwiki.com/2013_MBC_Drama_Awards

MBC awards have always been a big joke but HJW really deserved it, I can't say about the rest, I mean Suzy over GHY or even JRW? Shin Se Kyung over KSY???? 0_o

To be honest I really like her in sageuks. She was good as a teen actor in QSD and she was ok in Tree With Deep Roots. Both sageuks had amazing veteran actors and I think it helped her. She did what she was suppose to do and nothing more and the main focus was always on Go Hyun Jung and Han Suk Kyu's characters.

Well, MBC should just call this the appreciation awards because it's mostly about ratings and popularity.

i agree. i've seen some W.T.H.!? moments in award shows past, but this one takes the cake. i choose to pretend this show and its awards don't exist. if they can live in an alternate reality & give awards to undeserving actors/shows, then i can choose to live in a world where this fiasco did not occur. it's the same reality where *the dramas that shall remain nameless* don't exist either.

In general, it does appear that MBC had some SUPERBLY weak dramas this year. Nothing on SBS, KBS, and cable.

I rest my case....I love Suzy but acting wise....not yet....and to give it to her, MBc is crazy...shin se kyung???? I can't even....but Han ga in was okay to me,,,Moon was indeed her best portrayal......for her that is....so I was fine wt that....but this??? Ha ji won rocks....yeah baby!

I'm here for the TK2H reunion and for MBC to give the actors awards they deserved last year. I might have possibly squealed like a little girl when Seunggi and Ha Jiwon both won popularity and imagined it was them winning best couple...

Suzy winning was beyond ridiculous and an insult to most of the people there. Though I can't get behind hating on her since you can tell she did not want that award. WTF was MBC thinking!? Shin Se-kyung winning is mostly being ignored because of Suzy, but I understand that less than Suzy winning. At least GFB was a hit and Suzy did have at least some part of it. But Shin Se-kyung ????

I almost feel bad for MBC because they had nobody to actually give awards to since about 95% of their dramas were terrible and did terribly in the ratings.

Anyway, it's your move KBS and SBS. Let's see if you can top this mess.

In the beginning it was like drama crack. Bad for you, but addictive. By the end it was just bad. Soooooooo bad. Unbelievably bad. There wasn't enough hot even with Lee Jung Jin to make up for the bad.

It's too bad the last 25 eps so destroyed what was somewhat good in the first 25. Hundred Year Inheritance, 50 hours of my life I'll never get back.

"Serving tea." Exactly. Also podiatrist/cosmetician/nursemaid/lovebug. One thing it isn't demanding of her is acting. The writers shouldn't have gotten a nod either. They've really disappointed with this one, sorry to say.

I did a marathon of the show and although she's done better work since this show doesn't require her to showcase her acting powers, she's still pretty much better then the rest of them.

Both her and Joo Jin Mo's acting was what made me believe in their romance when the couple spent so little time with each other.

One way to top it is by watching her acceptance speech...wth was that? I was all for defending her win until I saw that....it's not her attitude...she's a nice girl...but without serious preparation even a nice person can look like a fool when delivering a speech...if u can't make it long and compelling, make it short and sweet...and if u can't even do that....make it short. Period. Sigh. And...don't laugh, coz other actresses do take the awards seriously...

Required fields are marked *

yeah you're right, i know she shouldn't be hated over getting the award because it's MBC's fault but her speech was mind boggling, she could have made it short and sweet instead of stuttering and laughing for 3 long minutes, yoona also won same award as suzy and people were unhappy about it at first but her speech and the way she behaved during the awards show totally cooled down the unhappiness from the other nominees and audiences, suzy on the other hand made it worse for herself through that incompetent speech she gave, maybe the international audiences don't understand the big deal but in korea the way suzy behaved maybe looked upon as disrespect to other nominees that were present there.

I love that the kid got awards! Yay for some recognition for Queen of Classroom. The fact all of them look so adorable, Lee Young-yoo looked a bit mature but Cheon Bu-geon is just sooo cute.

I think the light color dress works best for Baek Jin-hee, she really looks the opposite of her annoying character in Empress Ki. Which IMO she played really well, didn't even hold back in being so bad.

Btw, Kim Yoo Jung looks like she just grown up (a lot), she almost look like an adult.

I think Kim Yoo-jung is my favorite look of the night - the dress, the hair, the way she carries herself. In comparison, sorry, but Kim So-hyun looks really tacky.

Kim Sae-ron also holds a soft spot in my heart, because of The Man From Nowhere, and she was subtle but great in the few episodes of Queen's Classroom I watched.

Chun Bo-geun: forever Pa-rang from Stars Falling From the Sky for me!

Honestly, Shin Se-kyung is a bigger WTF for me than Suzy. I'd watch Suzy x infinity because at least she has some screen presence. SSK is a cardboard cut out that doesn't even smile without looking fake. But if I try to forget SSK, then Suzy is such a huge shocker. I can't believe after last year's disaster of having HGI win against HJW, they did it yet again this year.

The backlash has been so bad, and so expected. I feel terrible for Suzy who looked awkward and so uncomfortable on stage. I was surprised she didn't burst into tears. I even heard she mentioned her dog (!!) in her speech. That's the epitome of fail.

I personally loved GFB - and it is MBC's only successful drama with its Seoul ratings breaking 20% early on and nation wide ending with 19.5%. I wasn't too surprised to see it get loads of recognition. Seung-gi got three along with HJW, and I'm sure a lot of fans are just taking this as a payback for last year's snub. Both so deserving of all the awards - really happy for them both.

LYB did get nominated in the rookie actress of the year, and I flinched when her name wasn't called out. But she shouldn't feel too bad. MBC is effed up like that.

As said I think it's ridiculous to give Suzy the award over Go Hyun Jung who over acted Suzy by alot. Is this because Gu Family book did better in ratings? Or that Suzy is so popular that it would be a shame if mbc didn't award her anything.
Oh we'll as long as Suzy is aware that she probably doesn't deserve that award as much as other nominees bc she herself was surprise. Like really?
Why had out awards when the ppl who deserve it doesn't get anything over more popular shows. What does the award actually mean to the winners who felt they probably didn't deserve it?

I'm surprise Two Weeks wasn't nominated at all. I think lee jun ki should get something for his performance and really? Drama of the year is "hundred years inheritance"? I was expecting something else.

I'm really worried about sbs drama bc they will have a fierce competition unlike mbc who's dramas this year I gotta say were flops

Giving top excellence to Lee Seungi ahead of Lee Jun-ki was the biggest blunder for me. I like Seungi, but LJK's performance in Two Weeks was the best from last year.
And Ha Jiwon getting a Daesang for a drama which has not even completed half of its run. LOL
These awards are just fashion shows. I bet SBS will give LMH and PSH many awards today.

Better than what he got. Though they could have did what they did for Ha Jiwon who didn't win top excellence and had him win Daesang (along with Ha Jiwon) and SG top excellence.

With a few tweaks MBC could have awarded everyone and there would have been no issues.

Such a sneaky move. Put Joo Won against Lee Jun-ki (it’s just insulting for him even be only in Excellence category) and not opposite Lee Seungi to prevent people to bash Lee Seungi. It didn’t help, actually, if you have read netizen buzz and comments on naver.

0

It's not really insulting or sneaky. Joo Won is a good actor and there's nothing to be ashamed of to be nominated there, especially when you drama wasn't an actual hit. People can't seriously think he's going to win against SG who stared in their only hit weekday drama this year and was snubbed the year before.

0

Where did I say I couldn't image such a show? I was simply pointing out that the comparison the OP made was moot since Lee Jun-ki didn't lose Top Excellence to Seung-gi since he wasn't in the category. A more apt comparison is that Jun-ki lost to Joo Won, because that is what actually happened.

I can totally imagine a MBC staff who mistakenly keyed in Lee Seung Gi's name in the Top Excellence instead of Lee Jun Ki and no one noticed or those who suspected it's wrong did not dare to voice out because MBC is illogical anyway. Far fetched? Who knows?

Meh, I disagree. I thought Lee Seung-gi did a excellent job. It is a shame that Lee Jun-ki was snubbed again, but that doesn't take anything away from him.

I have to point out again that Jun-ki didn't lose to Seung-gi. Your suggestion seems to be reaching, based on groundless speculation, and still doesn't make them competing against one another. Losing to Joo Won isn't a bad thing. He is a gifted actor even his MBC drama was terrible.

I agree 100%. Lee Seunggi is not bad, but his role was very limited. Lee Junki's role certainly gave him more scope, but he also acted his socks off. I loathed him with his self-loathing and rejoiced in his slow journey of change. Lee Seungi's character, meh. All I remember from his performance was that his eyes turned green.

i think LSG totally deserved this award for his portrayal as Kangchi, and Lee jun ki should have won that award that joo won won because joo won's drama was worse than jun ki's drama, also most people used to criticize lee jun ki's acting for a long time so i think those who didn't watch two weeks still believe ljk's acting has not improved?

0

@megumi sorry but where did u know many people criticize LJG's acting? His acting in all projects always get good reviews by both domestic and foreign viewers.
I think javabeans was the only foreign blogger who criticized him of being overact sometimes (means other times are in great level), before his military. I didn't agree her that time, kk.
Seems she now likes LJG much too, both his acting and project choices. He has shown versatility in various characters, his acting skill is impressive. Unfortunately, the awards win or not are just based on the rating (for k-dramas).

I don't think Seung-gi should have won because of the time it took to put on make up, but I thought he deserved his win based on his acting.

I like both actors and yeah, Lee Jun-ki should have been nominated in Top Excellence given his experience and performance. Winning doesn't seem likely since GFB is the ratings hit compared to Two Weeks. It's sad, but this is MBC after all. TK2H was snubbed last year too, but at least both Lee Seung-gi and Ha Ji-won were deservedly nominated in Top Excellence last year.

My two cents? Never take station awards seriously, because it's just all down to high ratings=more money.

Thing is... they invite award winners to the award function so the winners are predetermined. The general belief is that if you're attending, you're getting an award and thats not really the case. CJH and LYB both came and didn't get anything. So many people didn't come because who'd wanna waste precious time in an award function when you know you won't win and are forced to watch underving people win instead.

I agree that Two Weeks needed to have gotten something - anything. I'm not an LJK fan, but I definitely think he deserves a nomination in the top-excellence even if I don't necessarily think he'd deserve to have won over LSG. But to nominate him in excellence, then have Joo Won (of 7 Civil) beat him is plain ridiculous! Also... I felt the Two Weeks ladies deserved some love. They should've won against both their competition. Honestly, even LYH was better; anyone is better than SSK! Anyone!

I get what you're saying, like Ahn Jaewook who attended last year's ceremony but won nothing. However, there are instances like this - I truly believe Go Hyunjung or anyone from Two Weeks cast could have easily won something if they attended the show. Yeah, I agree, I don't really care anymore, especially since these awards shows are definitely worthy of the amazing actors/actresses' time.

When I found out Junki was nominated for Excellence while Song Seunghun for Top Excellence, I actually uttered something like "WTF......... This absurdity....." irl, lol. I love Joo Won to bits, but everyone (except Jang Youngnam) was goddamn awful in the drama. He certainly didn't deserve it.

I didn't watch Gu Family Book so I'm not sure how much has Lee Yeonhee improved in her acting.. Right, SSK was not deserving of the 'Excellence Actress' title (I saw 1/3 of When A Man Loves) but she can be mediocre (at most!) if her co-stars were veteran actors like Song Kangho or Han Sukkyu.

Undoubtedly, mbc had eyes on to give awards to level-7 since its rating is more than the other 2 dramas in the excellence category. Haha, mbc never judge the acting.

0

Pls don't take seriously about the mbc's judgement of the excellence award. Almost all awards here are just related to the rating. Lee Joongi has already been insulted by the ugly mbc for his impressive perfect acting in two weeks to be nominated only at excellence category.
This is so ridiculous mbc did it to avoid of bashing directly to lee seungi if they nominate such great performance of lee joongi to be competed against him. No doubt, lee seungi had a better role for acting award than his other 2 rival nominees. Since lee joongi's acting and drama itself got many good reviews both by domestic and overseas sites though two weeks had a limited audience due to its genre, there were many complaints about the unfair nomination for lee joongi.
So, it's better for lee joongi not winning that excellence award. This nomination is not what he really deserved. Glad there's some fair award ceremony like APAN Star Awards in korea. He at least has won his well-deserved Top excellence Actor award there for Two weeks, even beat the other rating-hit nominees like jo in sung, so ji sub, joo won and go soo, congrats.
That mbc has cheated him for 2 years, even insulted this year. Hope he does his next dramas from other 2 stations.

0

Yes @yooshihae, I'm happier lee jun ki didn't win the not deserved award for his amazing acting since there's no hope for top excellence that we've known what mbc had planned.
Also glad there were k-reporters who post articles of this unfair nomination and the responses with disappointment from netizens.
Last but not least, I've just read the news of his recent tweet. Haha... love his msg on twitter to cheer up his fans, he's one smart strong man! Looking forward to his new project.

For anyone who feels bad for Go Hyun Jung, remember that in 2009 she took the MBC Daesang award for the monster hit Queen Seondeok.

It's just too bad for all the actresses and actors concerned that ratings speak, and that MBC is more concerned about that than improving the quality of their dramas.

When I saw the list of award winners earlier today, I couldn't believe it...WTF was MBC thinking?!?!?

AHYI as drama of the year??? x{ Seriously, whoever decided that obviously never watched it at all...I'm still shaking my head because it's just so incredibly ludicrous. TW, or even GFB (popularity-wise) would have been choices that would have made much more sense! Of MBC's dramas that I do remember as being decent, it would have been between QC and TW.

Suzy over Ko Hyun Jung?? That doesn't make sense talentwise (sorry Suzy fans). I mean, she's a decent actress...helluva lot better than Shin Se Kyung (yet another WTF for winning an award...she's so wooden and yet, for reasons that I can't get for the life of me, she keeps getting lead roles). Popularity award maybe, but definitely not over an industry heavy hitter like KHJ!

JSM and OCS got newbie awards for the train wreck that was PA?? Haha, probably more like MBC's way of "thanking" them for sticking with such atrocious garbage xP I was thrilled when JB and GF discussed that trainwreck a few weeks back, because I had firsthand knowledge of what crazy sht that was, haha :P

Joo Won winning for LC7S?? Im a huge JW fan because he's an amazing actor, but whyyyy reward such a shtty drama?? I'd like to get back all the time I wasted watching that train wreck as well...

A bit early to hand out awards to EK, in my opinion...it's not even at the halfway point but it's decent so far. I liked Ha Ji Won better as kickass heroine, but lately she's been boring...and I like Ji Chang Wook's portrayal as wimpy but puppy-like emperor (he should stick with sageuks).

As for winners that deserved it...the villians of ISYG and AHYI (despite my apprehension of rewarding such craptastic dramas) really got into their roles that I hated em both xP I also liked that my fave weekender of the year ALNH got some love :) Lee Sang Yeob and Cha Hwa Yeon are two of my faves in there.

As for the dresses...I had the same reaction about Han Ji Hye's dress! Thought maybe the stitching came apart on her left side and that part was drooping...haha. Uee's dress I think was supposed to be asymmetrical but it looks off. HJW usually dressed sharp but the dress and makeup didn't flatter her...it made her look years older.

I don't get why most decided to do light-colored/white dresses...I always think that playing it safe=dull, show up in some color!!

All the older actors/actresses dressed well (except for PWS) and the kid actors from QC were so adorable!!

So happy for lee seung gi and ha ji won!! It's like payback time for them in this year's awards, after MBC ignored their amazing drama last year.

That would mean MBC rewarded the main lead of their most successful miniseries, and still give GHJ the top-excellence. The backlash wouldn't have been half as bad.

I was relieved LJG didn't win that award for the only excellent level. He doesn't deserve it at all for his high talents he proved in two weeks. He has already been insulted much by mbc with this unfair nomination from the stupid juries.
