2013 MBC Drama Awards

Year-end awards are here! At least the first of the bunch is, with MBC putting on its ceremony the night before SBS and KBS follow suit with theirs.

These awards ceremonies are historically more like thank-you gifts to actors than actual acting awards based on strength of performances, and it’s a fact I’ve long accepted as part of the business. It is a business, after all, and often ratings are as important (or, ha, more important) than artistic vision or production quality. So keep that in mind as you read through the list, because there are bound to be one or two or maybe twenty decisions that you don’t agree with. Some are certainly odd enough that despite knowing that the stations do this every year, I’m still perplexed (or indignant on behalf of the nominees who didn’t win—or worse, those who weren’t even nominated) at the winners list.

This year, Empress Ki was the big winner, which is a bit of a surprise in that the drama isn’t even half through its run; it seems like it would be more of a 2014 award pick than a 2013 one. But on the other hand I’m not that surprised since MBC often doesn’t have many big hits, so they’re keen to give the nods to whichever shows drew the ratings. It’s certainly more understandable than awarding Drama of the Year to… wait for it… Hundred Year Inheritance? What the what?

It’s also why I’m sad that some dramas I really enjoyed didn’t get anything (ahem, Two Weeks), though I’m not surprised by it.

WINNERS LIST

Daesang (Grand Prize): Ha Ji-won (Empress Ki)
Drama of the Year: Hundred Year Inheritance
Top Excellence, Miniseries, Actor: Lee Seung-gi (Gu Family Book)

New Actor Award: Oh Chang-seok (Princess Aurora),
Lee Sang-yub (Would You Give Love Away)
New Actress Award: Jeon So-min (Princess Aurora),
      Baek Jin-hee (Empress Ki)
Writer of the Year: Jang Young-chul, Jung Kyung-soon (Empress Ki),
      Gu Yeon-sook (Hundred Year Inheritance)
Actor of the Year, awarded by PDs from all three broadcasters: Ha Ji-won (Empress Ki)

      Chun Bo-geun, Lee Young-yoo

      Jung Bo-seok (Hundred Year Inheritance),
      Jo Jae-hyun (Scandal)
Golden Acting Award, Actress: Kim Bo-yeon (Princess Aurora),
Lee Hae-sook (I Summon You Gold),
Cha Hwa-yeon (Would You Give Love Away)
Popularity Award: Lee Seung-gi (Gu Family Book),
      Ha Ji-won (Empress Ki)
Best Couple Award: Lee Seung-gi, Bae Suzy (Gu Family Book)
Lifetime Achievement Award: Park Won-sook

So Ha Ji-won led the Empress Ki sweep, beginning with her Daesang and also managing to pick up a popularity award as well. Fashion-wise, I… can’t say I love this look. Individually the parts aren’t bad—despite the hairdo, which is flat and old-fashioned—though I think it’s the silver Dynasty power sleeves (power cap sleeves?) that push the look over into dated territory.

It’s possible Ji Chang-wook (Empress Ki) is wearing more makeup and hair product than his co-star Ha Ji-won. So pretty, but tonight his look screams campy.

Of the Empress Ki bunch, I think it’s Baek Jin-hee who wins for this flowy, dreamy gown that she glows in. She’s such a talented actress that I’m happy for her to be moving upward. Empress Ki is not even her first MBC drama (she’s also done High Kick 3 and I Summon You, Gold) so we have to take it with a grain of salt that her award was for New Actress, but as we know, MBC likes to spread its love around to give everyone a shot at something.

Same color dress, entirely different effect: What a strange droopy chest on Han Ji-hye (I Summon You, Gold), who won a Top Excellence Award for her weekend drama (incidentally, the same award she picked up last year for May Queen). From the left side you can see that it’s a sort of front panel, but from all other angles it looks like her dress started falling off itself. Not my favorite look.

Her co-star Yeon Jung-hoon (I Summon You, Gold) looks put-together and polished, picking up an Excellence Award.

What can we say, MBC loves Kim Jae-won. He has won the same Top Excellence award for three years straight: Can You Hear My Heart in 2011, May Queen in 2012, and Scandal this year.

His co-star Shin Eun-kyung (Scandal) also won an award in the same category.

Joo-won is a good actor, no doubt, and perhaps a budding great one. But I expect his Good Doctor role to net him more acclaim for his work this year (perhaps at the KBS awards tomorrow) than his role in Level 7 Civil Servant, which actually got him an acting award here. Here’s a snippet of an exchange between the Dramabeans crew:

Javabeans: “You guys, Level 7 got an award.”
Girlfriday: “For stupidity??”
Javabeans: “Hint, it has ‘excellence’ in the title.”
Gummimochi: “Excellence of stupidity?”

Shin Se-kyung won an award for When a Man Loves. (Other nominees in her category, who did not win awards: Kim So-yeon and Park Ha-sun for Two Weeks and Lee Yeon-hee for Gu Family Book.) As an unnammed DB member wondered: “HOW DID SHE WIN AN AWARD FOR A THING SHE CANNOT DO.”

Gu Family Book wasn’t really a success of a drama in MY book, but in MBC’s it’s the drama with high-teens ratings so it did pick up a number of trophies. And I won’t argue against Lee Seung-gi, who did a solid job and beat out nominees Kwon Sang-woo and Song Seung-heon.

On the other hand, how can anybody justify giving Suzy (Gu Family Book) the Top Excellence over both Go Hyun-jung and Jung Ryeo-won? I love Suzy. She does not deserve an acting award over those two (though I could see her beating out fourth nominee Choi Kang-hee for Level 7, because, psh, Level 7). Javabeans: “How did Suzy beat Go Hyun-jung in an acting category?” Girlfriday: “Does everyone at MBC have a head injury or something?”

Lee Yubi (who looks adorable in her bright pop of red) was so good in Gu Family Book but she wasn’t even nominated for anything. Maybe I should stop trying to make sense of MBC awards. Like, ever.

I wish Hong Soo-hyun (Would You Give Love Away) had chosen a more lively look to celebrate her win, because this pink seems to fade her out, especially without bold makeup or accessories to brighten up the look.

Something tells me Lee Sang-yub is on the up-and-up; after putting in a few roles as a solid tertiary character, he’s doing well with weekend drama Would You Give Love Away, which earned him a New Actor award.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand this dress worn by UEE (Gold Rainbow). I think I kind of like it? But ti’s also like a skimpy dress worn over an even skimpier dress, with a great ol’ slit and half a side and some swoopy-stiff draping going on. Like I said, I don’t realy get it. But it’s interesting?

Uh, did Lee Jang-woo come in character as eccentric David from his current drama Pretty Man? That’s a KBS show (he’s probably here because last year’s role in MBC’s Oh Ja-ryong Is Coming netted him a New Actor award), but who knows, maybe he zoomed over after drama shoots ended for the day. I refuse to consider the possibility that this was just his planned look.

I bet Lee Yoon-ji is having a grand old time filming her ridiculous but entertaining weekend makang King’s Family, which just hit 40% ratings. But that’s for KBS, and we have to look to 2012 for her last MBC role in The King 2 Hearts. She looks awesome and confident, as she tends to do on the red carpet.

I love Lee Jung-jin, but how on earth MBC named its weekend crazy-maker Hundred Year Inheritance its Drama of the Year is beyond me. Reaction from HeadsNo2, who actually watched that show: “NO. NO…. NO WAY. REALLY. I’m in shock.”

Seo Hyun-jin seems to be doing quite well on MBC, having racked up a string of roles with the broadcaster: The Duo, Feast of the Gods, Goddess of Fire Jung-yi, and her current drama King’s Daughter Soo Baek Hyang. The white gown with red lip was a popular look of the night, and for the most part it has its desired effect. Seo’s was neither my favorite or least favorite version of the style tonight.

Honestly, I think it was the child actors and teenagers who upstaged the adults for this awards show, starting with Kim Yoo-jung (Gold Rainbow). She’s both adorable in a young-girl-growing-up way and in a full-blown Future Leading Lady way. Everything about this works.

I wonder how long she and Kim So-hyun (I Miss You) will be compared and perhaps set up as friendly rivals; they’re only a few months apart in age, and they’re both becoming popular at about the same rate (which is to say, skyrocketing to fame). I’m almost certain this is the same dress Kim So-hyun wore the night before at the MBC Entertainment Awards, which makes me love her for letting one gown do double-duty. Sweet and chic, and still just 14 years old.

Speaking of skyrocketing fame, here’s her co-star Yeo Jin-gu (I Miss You).

The entire child crew of Queen’s Classroom picked up awards in the Child Actor category, and arrived together as well. In order of appearance, we have: Kim Sae-ron, Seo Shin-ae, Lee Young-yoo, Kim Hyang-gi and Chun Bo-geun.

Minho was the only one from the crew of Medical Top Team, most of whom opted to skip the awards since they didn’t win any of their categories. I guess when your ratings averaged around 5%, there was just no winning.

Kim So-eun (Horse Healer) also does the light-dress-red-lip combo, and works the va-va-voom.

Ah, the craziness that was Princess Aurora! I’m reading the Korean media headlines about that drama and laughing my head off at the descriptions: “The drama that should never have been.” “The drama that was a waste of airtime.” “The drama that was a sub-drama.” At least its suffering cast picked up some nods, with lead actress Jeon So-min winning for New Actress.

Her co-star Oh Chang-seok (Princess Aurora) was unceremoniously killed off in one of the writer’s “death sprees,” but he also earned a New Actor trophy.

And here’s the third leg of their love triangle, Seo Ha-joon (Princess Aurora).

Kim Bo-yeon, their Princess Aurora castmate, also won an award; hers was a Golden Acting Award that is given to veterans. It’s one thing I do appreciate about the MBC Drama Awards (glass half full!), because veterans might not otherwise get awards despite often putting in as strong (or stronger) performances as their headlining co-stars.

Another Golden Acting award winner was Cha Hwa-yeon, who was in several MBC productions (I Miss You, King’s Daughter Soo Baek Hyang) but won specifically for Would You Give Love Away).

Lee Hye-sook won her Golden Acting award for I Summon You, Gold.

Kim Sang-joong (Bad Daddy forever!) won for weekend family drama Gold Rainbow.

And last but not least, Park Won-sook took home the lifetime achievement award, after putting her time in a number of MBC productions like Hundred Year Inheritance and Gold Rainbow.

Wank network! lol

Still, i feel bad for Suzy. She didn't ask to be awarded and now look at all this backlash. Girl must be wishing she ain't winning unless she's totally oblivious to how ridiculous it all is.

OTOH, I'm looking forward to the SBS award tonight because they simply have tons more hits to reward this year. Master's Sun, Yawang, Heirs, and I Hear Your Voice. I swear if Lee Min Ho upstage Lee Jong Suk in any way... In fact, I know since Heirs is a big hit it's bound to win lots of things but i'm just gonna side eye the hell out of it unless the awards are for Woobin, Min Hyuk or Krystal, the only non-crappy performances from that drama tbh.

It's also interesting to watch whether LBY chooses to go to this one or the KBS one. I believe MDSY still up for contention plus her hubby is going to that one. While over at SBS she has IHYV. One way or another I have a feeling she will end up with at least one daesang tonight. What a way to end her fantastic year tbh!

KBS this year has quite a slim picking it seems: most of their hits are weekend dramas + maybe Secret and Good Doctor (okay, it's better than MBC's options at least). Hopefully they will finally realize how much of a (rating+acclaim) asset Joo Won has been to the network all these years (2010: Baker King, 2011: Ojakkyo, 2012: Gaksital, 2013: Good Doctor) and give him more than that consolation acting award. Give the boy the big one yo!

W/ how MBC handled their Drama Awards, I'm eager to see the winners of KBS and SBS (especially regarding to Heirs). Heirs may have a high rating but the storyline was shi**y. Maybe Heirs should just get popularity award to ease the fans.

SBS is creating multiple categories so they can accommodate all their hit dramas (and they've had quite a few this year) so Heirs will probably win something in the category they have for 20-episode series because the only competition in that area is Yawang, and its stars aren't attending.

Same with IHYV and Master's Sun, Gong Hyo-jin also isn't attending but So Ji-sib is, and he'll be up against Lee Jong-seok for IHYV - they'l have to find a way to award both, even if it means a popularity award for one.

I am betting that Heirs takes most of the awards, even though the writing was horrible, and the acting by the leads was marginal at best.

The networks let the winners of awards (except Best Couple) know in advance so it's hardly like she was taken by surprise, this isn't the Oscars.

I feel a bit bad for her, but frankly, if it means she/her agency thinks twice before taking a lead role in something beyond her abilities (i.e. anything that involves playing a character not named Bae Suzy), I'll be glad. She's obviously out of her depth in acting, if JYP has to push their It girl they should just make her a solo artist like Hyuna instead of trying to make her act.

A lot of the netizen comments are saying that Suzy comes across as an airhead even on things like variety shows. I seldom watch those so cannot comment on their opinions, but she should definitely stick to CF's from now on - or any role where she does not actually have to act, or talk, or do anything but look pretty. Is Suzy the "Blonde" of Korean actresses?

From the few I've seen, she comes across as charming but a bit vacant. She's really milking that Nation's First Love popularity, though.

Her fans keep saying that her woodenness and non-acting is because of her age and lack of experience, but there are enough talented idols ('93-94ers) of the same age as her and with the same level of experience (Krystal in Heirs, for one - others include Jung Eun-ji, IU, Girls' Day's Minah and even Dahee) to give the lie to that claim. She just has no knack for acting, period. A lot like Taecyeon.

Suzy's never been known for her brains. She got in some controversy about admitting she slept through classes a couple years back. And education is a big deal in SK so you can imagine how well that went over. She also decided not to go to university to focus on her career. She's just your average slightly more talented than most sweet ditzy uneducated teenage girl imo.

Suzy should just sing (she does sing well for an idol) and do CFs. The problem is people are probably getting sick of her or will eventually. I don't think you can turn around in Korea without seeing her face selling something.

Required fields are marked *

@lemondoodle - she does so many CFs that she has no time (she says) to work on her acting.....which basically means her 'acting' in dramas is basically just an audition reel for her to score more CFs.

If she's so popular and can sing, JYP should actually just do a Hyuna on her and promote her as a solo artist instead of an actress, leave alone a lead actress. Unless that agency is too stingy to fork up the money and pay for an album, and that is why they prefer to inflict her on dramas instead.

Probably the award show was intended as a comedy after all ? It could really be......

Award for Shin Se-kyung and Two Weeks totally ignored..... see, I'm laughing......

Did the Princess Aurora writer get an Excellence in Writing ?

I feel really bad for Suzy. MBC fucked her up.

All the actors were glaring at Suzy (inclusive the MC! rude)
when suzy was announced. I know she does not deserve this award, but she doesn't deserve this attitude people gave her when she was as much surprised as everyone was that she won.

She went to give the award in front of lots of actors glaring her, got nervous, pressure and messed her speech.

She did said she was lacking a lot to receive such award, said she would work harder and couldn't without stopping all the time because she was not prepared to win this awards , thanked her dog (poor girl)

And now what? People calling her dumb, that she now will go down, that she is not repectful for being nervous and blaming her as if it was her that picked the award ??

Haters. Hate her acting all you want, but not this young hard working girl that sleep less than 3 hours a day but still manages to smile all the time to everyone, and is humble - lots of actors, staff says so btw -

Oh and someone did...

Suzy’s sunbae actress Shin Eun Kyung clarifies her point of view

Shin Eun Kyung is the sunbae actress that netizens captured in the screencaps during Suzy’s speech, saying that she had a displeased look.

"I watched the broadcast afterwards and I was absolutely not looking at her in a displeased way. I was a bit tired because I hadn’t gotten enough sleep due to the many year-end schedules. Seeing my hoobae actress Suzy so taken aback and not knowing what to do, I felt bad for her and wanted to help her out in any way possible."

"Even for veteran sunbae actors, your mind becomes blank and you forget everything when standing at the awards podium. I forgot the name of my makeup artist that I had worked with for 6 years. I hope people try to understand and look on in a warmer light."

your're talking like only suzy is the harworking poor girl, everyone in the industry works hard, that's not an excuse, do you think LSG has any easier? he is also the top cf star, singer, goes to university as well as acting, and the other actress or actors who didn't win the awards are hardworking like her too, this award is the test for her on how she takes it either positively or negatively, if she takes it positively and wants to be an actress she will take acting lessons and improve her acting so not to get criticized by other people and show them what she is made of, if she takes it negatively then she will continue to do the same by blaming busy schedules and totally admitting she is not taking lessons for acting and always get criticized by people for her acting and attitude. It's all up to her.

"Hate her acting all you want, but not this young hard working girl that sleep less than 3 hours a day but still manages to smile all the time to everyone, and is humble"

I think everyone works hard and sleep less beside Suzy. Often times, people forget that one of the reason why the show is even successful is due to the hard work of the staffs who are also underpaid. So, although Suzy may be a hard-working person who sleeps less than 3 hours a day, there are also staffs who sleep even less than that yet works twice as harder and get paid lesser. So, in the end, please don't forget to credit the staffs as well. :) In fact, sometime the staffs don't get paid til couple years later (hence, the striking that often occur during production).

I feel sorry for Suzy b/c it's not her fault that she won. The blame should be MBC. They're the ones at fault for even 'recognizing' her talents over the other nominees.

when she was as much surprised as everyone was that she won.

Except not really, since networks always notify award winners (except Best Couple) in advance, so they know to show up in the first place.

If she doesn't want to be criticised so much, she could work on sucking less at acting. Or, if that is beyond hope, at least take roles that are better suited to her skill levels (i.e. not lead roles).

Sigh... It's sad that these are more popularity awards than awards for actual acting, producing, writing, directing. A good drama deserves praise and credit, giving said praise to dramas below standard is insulting and disheartening. I can already foresee Heirs taking out a whole slew of SBS awards. Sigh... shame...

I'd say that the viewers are partly to blame. High ratings means that people are watching... So I guess a lot of people are watching crappy quality shows.

Mbc is on crack... I was one of the unfortunate ones that watch hyi in the beginning and gave up around ep 30 or something. It was getting bad by then, and mbc always has a way of surprising and getting 100 times worst than I thought it could possibly be. The fact that it was best drama - wow. Simply wow. Unfreaking believable.

Oh my, Suzy over ghj in an acting category? Is there any words for that? At least over at sbs, they make up categories... Mbc should have made up a category for Suzy to win.

This award is a joke: Drama of the Year: Hundred Year Inheritance / Suzy over Go Hyung Jung -_-
But then again, MBC sucks this year. This award doesn't seem to base it off of talents but popularity and drama ratings. Shame on MBC for their selection of winners.

MBC messed things up so badly that it's almost hilarious. Lee Jun Ki should have been nominated for Top Excellence instead and win it hands down. All the nominees in Top Excellence including Lee Seung Gi should be nominated for Excellence award only. Lee Seung Gi winning Top Excellence is a joke. Not his fault, it's stupid MBC. He is a nice boy but he is far from being a good actor.

its redemption time for both of them. and i have not watched most of mbc drama's so cant say anything about them ,but...
MBC could have looked a little less stupid if not for suzy and her speech. poor her. i like her and was going to defend her since its not her fault she won until i watched her acceptance speech. she could have least saved her face by humbly thanking and leaving.or could have left out the dog or could have thanked everyone (all her oppas and hair salon etc) in a one go without squirming. cant really blame everyone's wtf face

LYB looked dashing and did deserve an award. its a real shame.

I kinda felt bad for Suzy for all the controversy involved when she received that Top Excellence award. She looked pretty nervous, but hey, it's not really an acting awards, it's more like popularity wins it all.

Which makes me feel all the more angrier that Two Weeks didn't win a SINGLE award at all. Yeah, the ratings were pretty meh but it's only because competition was strong since it went up against Master's Sun. The show itself was very good.

Oh well.

What a crappy award show!

Though I am not a fan of HJW, I really feel sorry for her for getting a Daesang prize from a stupid, crappy and senseless award ceremony that awards dramas that have yet to complete its full run. She will always be remembered for life for winning the grand prize from MBC Awards 2013 that does not make any sense in giving out wards.

Anyway, though I am missing Moonie and Bummie, I am glad that they and together with the other established actors did not attend this ceremony which I deem is a total crap and waste of time. Also, it's a blessing in disguise that MGY and Go Hyun Jung did not win awards here.

What a crap MBC Drama Awards 2013.

I am so happy and glad MGY and Go Hyun Jung did not attend the ceremony nor win the Daesang prize. Who wants to be remembered for winning such a prize when the whole thing surrounding the award thing do not make sense?? Especially when the drama has not completed its full run. Weird! My sympathies to HJW.

The only enjoyable segment are the child actors and actresses. That is the only saving grace of the whole saga of the award ceremony.

To those who have not watch it, no loss. Just read from forums and you get the idea of this silly ceremony.

Korean make-up artists need a good slap for using foundation that is too light. I mean is it the light or is the foundation brighter than the neck. It's irritating!

Lee Yoo Bi... I see your star rising. It's a shame Suzy won an award and you didn't even got an nomination but considering that MBC is a trainwreck full of trainwreck dramas - except for a little number of dramas - maybe it's good you didn't win. But I know we will see you winning in the future. And you definitely win for color. The dress is adorable and her hair, so lovely!

But the child actors won my heart this night: Yeo Jin Gu, Kim Yoo Jung and Kim So Hyun. Grow up already, so we can see you as leading roles in future dramas together! :3

I am surprise that Empress Ki is included in this year list ..they have many dramas that they can include like 2 weeks , Scandal , etc

If they can include Empress Ki why not include Miss Korea then ?

SSK winning on the When a Man Loves were really shocking I mean even supporting actors / actress were so much better than her in that drama !

I think....I would be happier if Lee Seung-gi won Top Excellence for The King 2 Hearts than for Gu Family Book, because the latter's story is just bleh and admittedly, I like his performance better in the former. Ah well. This is employee's award of the year, and I enjoyed Lee Jun-ki's performance in Two Weeks. I think he should have won Excellence award (at least there's still an award) - Two Weeks was way more solid the L7CS. As of why he wasn't nominated in Top Excellence, who knows? Ask the higher-ups of crazy MBC. To say who deserves more and bashing either LJK or LSG in the process is unfair for both of them because the one who gave the awards is MBC. It's ridiculous anyway (the awards). I hope both of them are going to choose another network for their next drama. Just not this crazy tv station.

But for some like Suzy and Shin Se Kyung, all I have to say is......Mother of God!!!!

Empress ki deserved all the acting awards they won. They won because the drama is not only popular but the acting in the drama is excellent as well. All the four leads who won are portraying excellent roles and Ha ji won deserved the daesang, it's not like she did not deserve it. I just wish two weeks also won some thing since that drama was great and lee jun ki was awesome but the bashing on empress ki? oh c'mon Prime minister and I is also nominated at KBS even when that drama is not finished airing.

You guys have to give Suzy a break here. I think her acting has really improved in Gu Family Book. I don't think the ratings would have gotten up because of bad acting.
I felt so bad for her she was so nervous and she was taking long because of that.

She gets way too many breaks already, not to mention the excuses made for her lack of skill.

The GFB cast was really good, with the exception of her - that performance was still terrible, unless you're seeing it through the lens of extremely diminished expectations.

LSG (and CJH for the good start) gets most of the credit for GFB ratings.

Sooo, I take it MBC's awards night is actually a ratings award, not an acting or even originality award per se?

Poor Suzy, it's not like she could refuse the award...

Didn't watch the whole of the train wreck that was 100 Year Inheritance, but I did watch the whole of the other train wreck: i.e. Level 7 Civil Servant (much to my regret...).

On the fashion side, Kim Yoo-jung is growing up into a truly beautiful young lady. I slightly prefer Kim So-hyun's roles to date (sorry, can't bring myself to watch Golden Rainbow yet), but they both have amazing acting chops at such a young age!

Still, the very idea that L7CS got any award (other than a Razzie Award)... *shakes head in disbelief*

The entire drama awards felt like a drama within the K-dramaland. Nothing makes sense and everything is based on ratings.

It's strange that the top A list stars did not show up and they happen to be the ones who are most deserving. Maybe they really didn't care because they'd know THIS was going to happen and the awards the network gives out aren't very ... honorable.

I wonder if MBC stands for mindless, bullshit and crappy? Because it's exactly what this award is about.

You know in my opinion Seo Shin-ae, Kim Sae-ron, Kim Yoo-jung, and Kim So-hyun have more acting talent in their little fingers than Suzy and Shin Se-kyung have combined.

That being said I do like Suzy I find her adorable just everything about her, she can sing, and she's growing up into a beautiful young woman, she just can't act. Which is weird because in Dream High even if she was a bit robotic I thought that was exactly what her character would be like if she was a real person, then she continued to take roles.

And Shin Se-kyung I used to think she was more talented than people, on here, gave her credit for, then I thought about it and realized I don't know what I'm basing that on. I did not finish Fashion King or Tree with Deep Roots, I didn't watch When A Man Loves at all. Except for My Little Bride I haven't seen anything else she's been in and she was only in My Little Bride for like 30 seconds. So really I don't know where that belief came from maybe because she's pretty? But I've never liked a female artist actress or whatever just because I was attracted to her before, or I don't think I have maybe I need to reassess my list of favorite female artists.

what a fail. how can they give awards based on popularity. i mean if i truly loved my craft, i wouldn't even accept the award if i knew i got it just because my drama was popular when someone else did a lot better. i'm happy for lee jung jin just because i have really loved him as an actor after seeing him act his ass off in pieta and leaving such a strong impression.. but i hear hyi is really bad so it leaves me a but unsure. come on though, since when can suzy even act. what are these people even doing. this is just insulting to actors who take their craft seriously. quality of ratings please. get yo shizz together asap!!

All this hate towards Suzy is just stupid. It's MBC, people. Also, Joo Won winning? For Level 7 Civil Servant? Why no hate there?

I like Suzy a lot and hope she doesn't take what so many are saying to heart. Isn't her fault MBC makes joke award ceremonies.

So many wtfs in this list, but I gave up hope on MBC after they gave Han Ga-in an acting award last year anyway.

I'll choose to focus on the positives instead: Gu Family scene-stealer Lee Yubi looking GORGEOUS in that red dress (yay! Now get her a lead role in something already, I don't want her playing second lead to any more talentless idols)

And the child actors - Kim So-hyun, Kim Yoo-jung, Yeo Jin-gu and the Queen's Classroom crew. I love them all <3

I burst out laughing when you first said A Hundred Year's Inheritance won for best drama. I honestly thought you were joking. But... you're not.

I'm not ashamed to admit I watched 100YI (I don't mind WTF as long as it's entertaining WTF) but best drama? No.

About the only thing this award show did do right is, as you mentioned, giving acknowledgement to the veteran actors who can actually act.

MBC is to shit, they judge according to the notes, it is an insult to the TOP A-List actors who are not present
Go Hyun-jung, Moon Geun Young, Lee Ki Junk, Song Seung Hun, Kwon Sang Woo, it's really a shame, although I love HJW (it does not deserve the Daesang sorry but the drama is not even half of its travel)
it's really insulting and no respect for other actors who all worked like crazy(their dramas are finished) which is more than their share were also HJW!!!!
And Suzy let me laugh, there were also negative comments about his behavior to his speech and compare it to Moon Geun Young who had received Daesang in 2008 and was more humble in saying that it is a great burden to win a great price for his age, MBC is the world upside down, they had better rethink their law you bring me good ratings no matter your action(you are the winner ), if this is how we will soon see all the singers KPOP in the world of Kdramas .

honestly, all i can think of "aww man, poor girl." she actually looked (and this is what I think) super flustered and because she knew she had messed up big time early on, she tried to cover it up somehow (of course, this made it more awkward--fidgeting, and all that jazz) but whereas this may have been perceived as just plain ole dumb for a lot of people, I saw it as just kinda sad. I mean, she obviously knew that GHJ deserved the award, but it's not like she was going to say that in front of everyone..so. I bet she didn't prepare a speech because she thought it'd be outrageous to even win.

AND WHAT IS UP WITH EVERYONE GETTING ON HER ABOUT THANKING THE DOG? haha. I get it. Dogs aren't really vital to one's acting performance. but the point is. she loves her dog. her dog loves her. her dog offered her comfort when she was stressin. so thus, she thanked the dog.. haha.

and I'm not a real big fan of suzy either, but she's a good singer, seems to be a real nice gal..I don't see the "attitude problem", she just a lil issue with unpreparedness. (which is not a crime, jeez.)

It really pisses me off that Hundred Year Inheritance got Drama of the Year. And that Two Weeks didn't even get a nod. Lee Jun-ki should have an award. He was fantastic in it. This is why I don't take much stock in these drama awards. They are biased and unfair. I like Suzy, too, but she did not deserve an award. Maybe in a few years, once she improves, but not now. Overall, I congratulate the winners, but many I don't agree with. I really think Kim Yoo-jung should have received a child actor award. She's amazing.

lol I also thought the mbc awards were ridiculous, but by now we all know that they consider ratings to be above acting.. honestly i never was a big fan of suzy or her acting but I couldnt help feeling bad for her and the hate she's getting. When I saw the way she went up the stage and made her speech I could tell she felt surprised, dismayed and VERY unsure of herself (of course she wasn't expecting it) its impossible to blame her for acting the way she did because come on, if you're a rookie actress who's standing in front of the cameras of the nation and some of the most talented actors and actresses, and you won a award you didn't even DREAM of getting I'm sure you would be stammering and not knowing what to do. It's MBC to blame

I feel bad for Suzy. She probably didn't expect to win the award, and she probably knew herself (like most of us did) that she didn't deserve the award that's why she looked panicked and lost and almost in tears while making her speech, adding to that the stoic faces of some of the actors in the gallery (the look of judgement and displeasure in some were pretty obvious), that probably made her even more nervous and uncomfortable.

and smh at some people completely hating her for this and wanting to see her downfall.

Well, yeah this is more such a joke than an award event. Curse on MBC, not the winners.
Seung gi did a great job as well. And look at Joo won. He even looked so burden receiving that award. I bet he knew it would be a controversy. His level7 was ruined, but he wasn't at all. I think he deserves it as much as Jun Ki.

I gasped when I read... At least I'm pretty sure you wrote that... "2 Weeks" didn't get any award.
What in the heck.
As if that wasn't shocking enough, I got to see that Suzi (!) won (!!) an award (!!!) for---- acting (?).
That was enough pain for me.
I stopped reading after that.

Is there some fans award for really good shows that were underrated?
I also feel bad for LJK. It's the second year in a row that he's in a REALLY AWESOME drama, but doesn't get the ratings it deserves.
