Yoo Yeon-seok scores another film role opposite Park Hae-il

When it rains, it pours? Yoo Yeon-seok (Answer Me 1994) is raking in the movie offers apparently, because here’s another for the based-on-a-true-story movie The Informant, opposite Park Hae-il (Aging Family). The film is about Hwang Woo-suk, the biotech professor of Seoul University who infamously fabricated experiments in stem-cell research and purported to have successfully cloned human embryonic stem cells, only to be discovered as a complete fraud.

Park Hae-il is being courted to star as the controversial professor, a man who was internationally published and lauded as a pioneer in scientific research, eventually charged with fraud and embezzlement for having made up all of his findings. He earned a doctorate in medicine but chose to be a veterinarian instead, and then went on to become a renowned researcher until he was found out in 2006.

Yoo Yeon-seok is up for the role of the titular informant, the person who discovers the professor’s fraudulent activities and becomes the key to proving the case against him. It sounds like a smart game of cat and mouse, made all the more tense by real-life stakes. When the true story is that insane, it can’t be hard to make an interesting movie out of it, right? Directing is Im Soon-rye, of The Best Moment of Our Lives and Southbound.

The Informant is still casting and plans to start shooting early next year. Busy, busy.

Wow, Park Haeil and his endless projects, just like Ha Jung-woo. Good for Yoo Yeonseok. Hope to see him improving in every work of his.

I'm so happy for YYS!! He might not get the girl in R94, but he's getting so many projects.

Although you don't know how much I'd KILL to see him as a Romantic Seoul boy in another RomCom drama. I didn't love Chilbong the way it seems like the majority of fandom did -- but Yoo Yeon Seok made it impossible not to swoon over him. He's such a versatile actor!

Glad that he will have much more screen time in his movies.
This week episodes of reply 1994 are unbearable for chibongers.
I have stopped watching since yesterday and will watch all remaining episodes once this drama is over.

Also out of curiosity -- just wondering if anyone knows whether or not he's gone to do military service yet? He's 29 right? So I'm presuming he's done it.

In some interview, or was it a variety show, he said that his then girlfriend convinced him to do MS at that time bcos she lived near the base and would be able to visit him often. But after he enlisted, she fell for sb else! Can u believe?

Anyway, it works out well for us Chilbongees, cos we won't have to lose him for 2 years. ;)

I feel like next time i refresh there will be another post about yoo yeon seok in another movie. Not complaining at all. Might actually feel better if he does end up being second lead in 1994 because at least he's becoming more popular as an actor. YAY!

He is on a roll now.

This film sounds more appealing to me than the other one he's doing, so I hope he'll accept this role as well. ^_^

Hmm, Chilbong-ah, don't leave us drama lovers waiting too long while getting and filming these great movie opportunities :)
What I respect about YYS is that although he has the looks and talent to do conventional and goody two shoes roles he has been playing less than savoury roles which shows that he takes risks and wants to stretch his acting range. Or is that because he lacked the opportunities?Regardless of that, he could have banked in on his breakout performance in reply 1994 to play conventional leading men parts but his decisions seem that he doesn't want to be typecast in a certain image. I'm definitely looking forward to his future projects.

Definitely not only you tura :) I actually love both Chilbong and Trash characters. But YYS made a safe and potentially bland character so special and relatable that I really feel and ache for his one sided love. Even YKS in Best Love couldn't do that for me.

If he keeps this up, you're going to run out of pictures of him to headline the articles! haha! Not that I'd ever complain about seeing more of him.

Wow. Great for him! I'm hoping it'll extend to oppa too.

Also really really glad I just recognize him in this role. He's lovable as Chilbongie, but if some people hate him because of his antagonist role, that means he's also good in them. Like Baek Jin Hee in Empresa Ki, she's really annoying, I almost hate her, but I'd always remember high kick where she was so spunky.

Daebak!!! 3 movie roles? 3 articles in a row?

So happy for YYS.

Its all about timing and so glad his timing is now...

I mean it still mindblown to me that he is the plays the young Yoo Ji Tae's character in Oldboy...

Amazing...

Out of the 3 movies he was cast in, this movie intrigue me the most. The real life story is crazy enough, I cannot wait to see how interesting the movie will be. Now all I have to do is to go through the waiting time until this movie is released which is not anytime soon.

That is why, Yeon Seok ah... please sign up for a drama too because I cannot bear not being able to see you weekly on the screen. sobs

2nd lead role? Seems like it for the romantic thriller and this...since another older and well-known actor is in the movie as well.

Park Hae-il is a veteran actor who is up there with the best of the best. His whole career started in movies and haven't done a single drama.
Yoo Yeon-seok will definitely play 2nd lead. I think it's an honor for him to act along side some of Korea's best actors. I'm a little worried that he maybe doing too many movies back to back. The veteran actors are used to it. I just hope that he will get enough rest in between.
