Age of Feeling also pre-empted on Thursday

Although it initially intended to air regularly scheduled episodes this week, KBS’s period noir romance drama Age of Feeling has ultimately decided to join its timeslot rival You From the Stars in pre-empting its Thursday episode this week.

Lunar New Year is the supposed reason, since nationwide holidays are often cause for dramas to get pushed in favor of family-friendly programming. But I’d bet my bottom dollar that for Age of Feeling it’s a more strategic move, because it’s not substituting in a movie or a holiday broadcast; instead, it’s taking advantage of You From the Stars’ absence to put out a special episode summarizing its first five episodes, probably in hopes of snagging some of Star’s audience. (Which is sizable, since it’s the undisputed ratings leader with numbers in the mid-twenties and climbing.)

So this means Miss Korea will be the only prime-time drama airing a fresh episode on Thursday, and I wonder if that’ll account for a nice bump in its ratings. It’s a solid drama with a winning romantic pair that probably deserves more ratings, even though I can’t quite argue that it deserves to take numbers away from the other two shows. What can ya do? It’s a hard timeslot with solid competitors all around. But with the drama now heading into the Miss Korea pageant proper, it’s a good time to catch up.

I'm not watching this one yet, but is that set the same as the one they used in Gaksital? It looks like the Angel Club.

Yea, both Gaksital and Inspiring Age are set in the 1930s.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the sets used in Age of Feeling were also used in Gaksital.

I have to be honest, I don't actually mind this pre-emption decision. This show has so many beautiful shots, anything that will help it keep it's look, even for one more episode, is alright with me. Although, I admit, I really was looking forward to both episodes airing this week.

I'm curious about how big the Lunar new Year is in South Korea? I know It is a big deal in our country (Vietnam). They celebrate at least a week. Students get 2 weeks off from school ( when I was still in school)

Well, I don't know about South Korea, but I just wanted to say, damn, you get a looong break. I'm pretty sure that the whole of China gets a week off too, but I don't know if their students get two whole weeks off. Holy crap. In Singapore, we only get two days off. Students get essentially three days off, as schools hold a celebration on the eve of. If we're lucky, the first two days fall either on Thursday/Friday or Monday/Tuesday, then we get a really long weekend that year. Some people start making travel plans as soon as the official public holidays for each year are released. xD

Man, other than school holidays, I've only ever gotten more than two weeks off for, uh, Sars. And we had to make it back up later on. D:

Under my impression, Lunar New Year is not a big deal in SK (my assumption, I might be wrong) because along with Japan, SK celebrate New Year on Western dates. When i was in school, which is more than 10 yrs ago, heh, Christmas and New Year is like another day. Or worse, have to prepare for final exams. We have exams for 2 weeks consecutively on millions of subjects. That's why we're longing for Lunar New Year like waiting on rain. Two-week break is what it used to be. I'm not sure if it's any difference now. I already left VN long time ago. :D
It's always exciting to learn about how differently each country celebrates New Year.

Oh gosh, I can't imagine having exams over Christmas. D: I'd be really excited for Lunar New Year too! Actually, my guess is that South Koreans do celebrate Lunar New Year in a big way too, since it's a nationwide holiday.

Well, because Singapore is multiracial and multireligious, Christmas and both New Years are public holidays. Which holidays are given importance is then a matter of your own race and religion. For example, my family isn't particularly religious. So we're just happy to have a chance to gather the extended family during the Christmas/New Year period. But some of my relatives who are Christian go for Christmas services and suchlike. 1 January is mainly a big deal for the countdown concerts and parties... I don't know anyone who does something special on this day. xD Chinese New Year's really the one that we make the most effort for. But compared to China, our efforts are pretty tame. Folks have increasingly become less strict about observing traditions such as wearing red clothes and/or traditional costumes. Even red packets aren't always red anymore. In a few years' time, I'll probably be getting packets in all colours of the rainbow. xD

I feel like my experience of at least Chinese lunar New Year, it's their biggest holiday... You feast for days and everyone goes home, whether it be college students or people from the country working in the city. It's the one time of year where, if you aren't at the dinner table you are either dead or dead to the family. You should hope for your own sake you're really dead...
(That may be slightly extreme, but I assume the picture is received :) )

Aw, i was looking forward to Age Of Feeling giving me an episode to make up for the lack of a YFAS episode.

Im actually really curious how much of a rise Miss Korea will get considering there's now a huuuuge chunk of the regular wed/thurs audience who might end up tuning into MK.

I wonder if they will really see that much of a difference considering that most people who were watching YFAS or Age of Feeling probably have not been watching Miss Korea and therefore probably wouldn't be interested in tuning in so late in the game.

I hope it gets a chunk. It's a very good drama, and since I'm not watching AOF, I'm glad for MK to get some extra viewers.

I was so planning on watching this, but for whatever reason, I never got to it. Maybe I'll catch up somehow now that there's only one episode this week. I heard some good things about it, and I think the ratings should pick up once YFAS ends.

I dunno how much interest Three Days would generate. Yoochun dramas never really pull ahjummas in, but then again its the most successful slot amongst all channels so who knows... I do hope the recap episode pulls the crowd in though. I think there needs to be more 30s themed dramas. Maybe some light hearted ones...

Is this a new candid shot or an old one. Because, at this point, Jin Se-yeon's perky school girl posing is making me gag. I'm willing to forgiver her for her character getting shafted by the writer in Gaksital, but she's a veteran now and she needs to work up a little dignity for this drama. That v-smiley gesture whatever-the-hell-it-is just isn't cutting it. Korean in 1936 doesn't need an inspiring assistant pharmacist.

Oops. Well, Im Soo Hyang I'll cut some slack. But she shouldn't be stealing Jin Se-yeon's shtick.

In Jin Se-yeon's next candid, I want to see some cleavage, some leg, an edged weapon, and a possibly loaded gun. Even if the shot is of her ordering Chinese take-out with her Mom.

. . . I will admit to some prejudice in this regard, because I am a big fan of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' which did a great job of creating a female adventure lead who was as tough as the best of the old Hollywood foreign adventure movies and not just a screaming victim like the starlets in the worst of the old serials. The perky Shanghai night club singer in 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' was a whiney, useless, and about as sultry as a detergent commercial. A major set-back for the cause of female heroines in movies and an insult to the classic femme fatales of Hollywood and European cinema.

Wait, I don't think Thursday's episode is cancelled..
The special episode will air at 4-6 pm while ep 6 will air at 10 pm.
I can't find any news saying it will be pre-empted..

Even in their official homepage they still put the broadcast date of ep 6 as January 30.

Google it. Kidding, I ain't rude like that. :)
This is long but I copied & pasted it from an article I wrote for my job...

Jan. 31, revellers will ring in the Year of the Horse, however, preparations for the new year begin well before this date.
By New Year’s Eve, people celebrating the new year will often have: Cleaned their homes to dispose of everything associated with the old year, paid debts and settled differences with loved ones, friends, and acquaintances.
Those celebrating often buy: Red money envelopes, oranges and/or tangerines, flowers, a new set of clothes and shoes for children.
They place money in red envelopes called a lai see or lucky money envelope.
On New Year’s Eve, people often gather with close family members, pay respect to ancestors and household gods and open every door and window in their homes at midnight to let go of the old year.
On New Year’s Day, people decorate their homes with symbols of good fortune, such as items that are bright red representing happiness or gold or orange, symbolising wealth and happiness.
On New Year’s Day, you are supposed to greet others by saying “Gung Hey Fat Choy” which means “Wishing You Prosperity and Wealth”.
The new year ends on the full moon 15 days later.
The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.

This whole explanation specifically relates to Chinese Lunar New Year, but its basically the same in most eastern countries that are celebrating this event.

Thank you for the info! I appreciate it very much! I knew about the Chinese New Year from television, and from reading a manga called Fruits Basket (one of my all-time favorites!) and I knew that as a '93-er I'm Year of the Rooster, and their are twelve animals in the Chinese Zodiac. That was the extent of my knowledge, LOL! :) You've given me some food for thought, and I may very well do some more research on it. Thanks, again!

People make mistakes, we're all human; majority was under the impression that ep.6 was pre-empted, and if that was misleading to most people then I assume that maybe KBS wasn't so clear on that issue until recently.
