I want to talk about Daniel Henney's Abs in Spy Under cover operation... ^^;;

Also my website Polyglit is up with a landing page now--the crowd sourcing book translation website.

Congrats on the website! Wishing you success with this project.

Not watching Spy Undercover Operation, so sadly, can't discuss the above-mentioned abs.

at a [dot]com to the end of polyglit. It's also up on twitter.

It won't be ready to launch until I gather the contributors and put up the kickstarter. I need to organize that next, but we have the translators and I'm working on typing out the text of Hong Gil Dong.

We'll also do other language texts besides Korean too, though I have to admit most of my frustration is directed towards the Korean Lit.

BTW, Daniel Henney is a good person from what I've read, super sweet on set and often goes out of his way for fans. So yes, he is hot in more ways than his abs. But damn, the lighting on them in that one scene was meant as fan service and I imagine him put a lot of hours of not fishing into them. (Fishing he likes as a hobby, which I know from research for a script I'm writing, pretending he's the second male lead.)

But DH can't act.

His acting is so bad that it distracts from all the pretty that there might be. Plus, some the things he has been in are just so cliché and boring... what was it, Finding Mr Right or something?

Your Korean Lit project is interesting though. The London Book Fair has a Focus on Korea this year, by the way, which is a pretty big deal.

Heard about that. But if all goes well I'll be ahead of the curve. ^^ In general, though, I have this tendency to be able to pick up trends a few years in advance of them. (Not boasting 'cause I find it a pain in the butt when I do... no one believes you 10 years ahead, even though you have the intuition from evidence built in.)

DH can't act, but the movie itself is funny. His Korean has improved a little and he's playing someone evil, so he's not just smiling for most of the movie. I think if he worked a little more on the ability to understand what it is to be in a painful situation and was able to draw that from his own life his acting skill could go up. But, I can't fault him for having a clean reputation, being hard working overall, and being open minded. I learned a lot about the Korean industry from reading his interviews too, which was useful. He should call his mom more often, though. Haha. She often wonders what he's doing since she contacts fans on soompi to thank them for subbing his work. *cough* (He values family, though.)

Is anyone else suffering the YFAS craze?

OH, THE DREAD, THE TEARS, THE HAPPINESS THIS SHOW GIVES ME.

At the beginning of the drama I got some serious IHYV vibe with all the supernatural stuff and super fast pacing and noona romance. But now that the angst has taken on full force, I've started getting some major Secret Garden feels.

Kim Soo Hyun did one heck of a job in the twelfth episode. The crying scene, anyone? He didn't go from another nobody to Korea's superstar in a whiff for nothing, really. This guy's staying in the dramaland's throne for the long run.

And Jun Ji Hyun is as stellar as she always has. I should expect no less from her but it really delights me to watch a drama where the leads are both equally attractive, talented, have crazy chemistry, so on and so forth the list goes on.

It's as if they are taking turns in impressing us and they just wouldn't stop until the viewers are left dead with bleeding hearts or cause of too much laughing.

ARGH THIS IS WHY I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HESITANT IN WATCHING AN ONGOING DRAMA!!!!!! I was always worried if it turned out to be real good because if it is then, goodbye, peaceful undisturbed sleeping hours. See you in three months. The first and the last time I followed an ongoing drama and quickly regret it afterwards was City Hunter. I followed IHYV, but the feels that drama gave me was not what YFAS did. Not even close, girlfriend.

I feel like I won't stop rattling about how good YFAS is. I just hope the writer has some mercy to spare for Min-joon because he's the sole reason why I didn't sleep well last night, imagining he would die alone and sad without Song-yi by his side. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if I suddenly start screaming "DO MINJOOOOON!" in my sleep.

On a side note, I've also began watching I Need Romance 3 to ease of the longing and the wait for YFAS and have been pleased with what they have in store by far.
Kim So yeon and Sung Joon definitely have no problem in the chemistry department and I'm beginning to really sympathize with that younger friend whose boyfriend is about to take public service exam. She's just soo cute and lovable you can't do anything except wanting to hug her!! And the Kim Ji Sung cameo!!!! WHOA! He was the only reason I watched the second season which is why I left it right after the female lead left him for her ex bf.

Aside from kdramaland, I really am interested in some of Western movies now that awards season has kicked off. I'm planning to watch Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle next week because they have just been released in my country. I'm also interested in 12 Years A Slave but sadly it's not yet released here. So, have you watched any of them? Is it good? I'm about to watch Dallas Buyers Club because if that movie got Jared Leto winning everything like it's nobody's business, I'm in.

I feel like YFAS is not the same to me as IHYV, again. I was more on the edge with the latter. this one, it has great characters, but it doesnt pull me in so much. Min Joon is kind of a "colder" character (and actor)

now don´t throw eggs at me...

With IHYV, I have empathy for the leads but with YFAS, I just do not have any empathy. Though the main actor and actress are hugely popular but I never took a liking of them. I fist liked him in Dream High when he had very messy curly hair then he started cutting his hair and my affection for the actor and the character went down. Call me crazy. Still the plotline is better written than Heirs or Empress Ki which commend similar viewership ratings.

YFAS has better female lead actor, directing but it has more weakness in the narrative just because of the serial killer brother. Ep 12 was great because it was about the strenght of the show that is live and death angst for the alien, CSY.

It reminds of Master's Sun that had a great OPT both comic and in serious scenes but the ghost story element was a weakness here. Here great OTP, awesome funny leading lady again but the mystery of the evil killer brother is in the way.

More eps like ep 12 and not stupid mystery part like why an immortal alien with superpowers cant simply outsmart and catch a killer.......

I agree with you...YFAS isn't as "thrilling" as IHYV (even if they are different theme...alien/celeb vs. legal). The serial killer bit in YFAS seems to be an afterthought, not written as a believable "real" serial kiler...unlike IHYV, where he was the driving force of the story.

In YFAS, Jae-Kyung seems more cartoonish than cold serial killer...like, if someone were to accidentally fart in his face, he'd be on his to-kill list...har har xP The only thing he's got going for him is his cold-as-ice face.

In IHYV, Min Joon-gook was hell-bent on revenge, and made Hye-sung and Su-ha's lives a living hell. He was definitely more believable as a "real" serial killer, and I guess it helped that Jung Woong-in portrayed him so well.

I think Min-joon is supposed to be a "cold" character, probably written so to differentiate him from human beings...I don't think Kim Soo-hyun is a "cold" actor (the first actor/actress that comes to mind is Cha Ye-ryun...now she's a cold actress).

And it's not a noona romance. Not just because he's technically older than her (by a loot), it doesn't give off that kind of feeling to me.

If it helps any, in real life she's like 6 years older than him...so it can be seen in some aspects as noona chemistry haha

With you on all the YFAS feels -- but i've already given my share of that on the YFAS ep.12 recap.

I think regarding comparisons to both shows IHYV and YFAS, i think IHYV was more thrilling -- mainly because the villain was a better villain and even if both shows had randomly placed murderers in a rom-com, i think it was better integrated in IHYV, so you felt the weight of the threat. The romance in YFAS gets me more than IHYV, even if i absolutely adored the relationship in IHYV. It was equal parts family, lover, friend, guardian. Su-Ha really could have been all those things to hye-sung.

I watched 12 years a slave a while back and i think it's a film that everyone should watch. It'd not one of those films i'd have on dvd blue ray and watch whenever i'm in the mood, but it's a film i think is important to watch. It's critically acclaimed and was deemed one of the most realistic slavery depictions. Some scenes were difficult to watch and I even had to look away at certain times (me, the horror fanatic) but I came out of it feeling alot more well-informed.
Haven't watched American Hustle yet but that's on my to-watch list (Jennifer lawrence is the hook here.) I heard alot of mixed reactions from people (not critics. they loved it) so i'm cautious coming in.

anyway last episode was good. and story wise it is all interesting.. that is after you get all the names and character in order...

I actually think the happy dream is him seeing the future. It just seemed too real and was a really long segment for it to be just fanservice before something catastrophic happens. I choose to think that he was seeing their future.

0

Required fields are marked *

They better have a happy ending! They must! I mean if you dangle the possibly of him dying at the starting at episode 12...then that means there are 8 episodes of us just thinking/worrying they'll have an unhappy ending...and if they do end up having an unhappy ending...thats very anticlimactic, no? It's like duh we expected that alll along...nothing surprising...annnnd I think the writer is smarter than that so hopefully they'll be new twists and turns to give us that happy ending.

Those are my confusing semi-delusional thoughts ^ to keep me going until the next couple of weeks. I don't think I can handle it if our couple couldn't stay together.

But then, if those dreams are actually their future, does it mean they will have a half-human, half-alien child? Think about sequel opportunities! Though...maybe not.

Miss Korea!!
Am watching YFAS, MK and AOF, and MK is ranked highest in my books :-)
As much as I enjoy the zippiness, metas, laugh-out-loud antics of CSY in YFAS, I can't help but be moved by the painfully real, well-portrayed characters of MK. Every scene, line, moment, has a purpose in telling the story. Even the side characters are interesting. The show never feels slow. LSK is amazing as always - subtle in his acting, yet conveying all the conflicted emotions of a man having to choose between his devotion to his buddies and workers, and a woman he thinks the world of and is afraid to hurt again. LYH is a surprise - I have never seen anything she's acted in, but have heard all the criticisms for her previous works. But she is definitely holding her own here. When she cries, I can barely hold back my own tears. Maybe LSK can bring out the best in his co-stars?? I would like to think so..LSK oppa!! :-)

It would be good to see MK getting more attention...and then us fans can yak/swoon/rant more in the comments section of a recap!!

Loved loved loved episode 11. It was so sweet. The swimming pool scene where Hyung Joon chose to dive into the water so that he can support the raft and Ji Young can float was my favourite scene as well as the sweet confession.

Also, Ji Young continues to be awesome. Her stirring speech about how she's not gonna give up on life or her love moved me so much!

At the moment, I like both girls and I don't think I'll mind if either one of them wins.

I adore Miss Korea. Who knows that what in the beginning felt like too many side characters turn out to be the strength of this drama? There are so many awesome connections made left and right in the last couple episodes:
1. Madame Yang and Madame Ma in their mutual hatred of the sleazy lady
2. Those madams and Hyung Joon in getting better chances for their contestants
3. Teacher Jong lending HJ money because he completely sees himself in HJ's shoes
4. Madame Ma and Jae Hee
5. Jae Hee and Ji Young

Required fields are marked *

I can't wait to see the scenes where the 2 madams and Hyung Joon work together. It's gonna be so good to watch.

I like the way Madam Ma looks at Jae Hee in a new light - like a completely new different person. Maybe because of the way Jae Hee said she likes that Madam Mawas the first one to know. I think Ma is going to become even more protective over her (not that she wasn't before) but they didn't have a strong connection like Madam Ma did with Ji Young. Somehow, I think that's gonna change

Also wishing for them to take their time with Jae Hee and Ji Young's relationship and develop it slowly.

Yes, Jae Hee and Madam Ma complete each other. Lonely people they are. What a relief that the three Seoul teams are given a common enemy so we can see how the three handlers work together. We have seen enough of their rivalries in the last 12 episodes so what a clever way to change up the story a bit. Brilliant!

It's a crime Miss Korea does not get better attention. But anyway, I love the way things are developing in the last few episodes. Ji Young's actions are grounded in reality, for example, try as she might hiding her hurt from HJ, she could not and immediately blurted out to him the stupidity of his decision. No prolonged misery due to not talking here. And yay for a hot kiss even though the PD could have shown us a bit more. LSK really dug in, didn't he?

Miss Korea is just really really awesome. It's all very real (the hardships they face, the romance, the decisions, etc) I was totally expecting Ji Young to give up on Hyung Joon near the end of Episode 12, but no. The writer completely uproots our expectations and turns it into something even better. What's the best is we can see all the crackling chemistry between OTP, the Vivi (makeup company) gang, Jae Hee and Ji young starting from Day 1. None of the relationships feel superficial and enough rambling JUST WATCH IT EVERYONE

Yesssss Miss Korea! Second time commenting here (the first one was for TK2H ages ago) because I feel that MK deserves way more love. The characters have so much depth in them and the storyline is very very different (in a good way) compared to most of dramas airing these days. Shoo shoo Bada President and Yoon!

Am watching PM&I, YFAS and MK, and MK comes out as my favourite out of the three. PM&I was delightful at first, but it's getting a lil flat, imo. YFAS was full of eye candies, Songyi's big-headedness got into my nerves in the first episode (don't kill me!) but I started loving her character from episode 2. Don't understand how Songyi and Hwikyung can be so oblivious to Semi's love for HK for all these years though. I was hoping so much for Semi to not go so far down to be the spiteful 2nd lead, but alas, the writers disappoint me ): Hopefully she can redeem herself by the end of the series. To me, YFAS' storyline is rather predictable (at least for the episodes that have aired) and I (as a non-Korean speaker) could understand most of it watching without sub. It's different for MK though, the conversations are gold. That's why I make sure I have the time and concentration before starting a new episode of MK. That being said, I love the metas included in YFAS. And the epilogues ^-^

That's all from me, have a nice weekend everyone! :D Oh and if you are still deciding whether to watch Miss Korea, WATCH NOW!

Till then~

Hello Beanies! Happy friday and OT.

How are you all? I am still not rid of my now 3 weeks old cough and I'm sure pollution doesn't help. Any one have any good tips? (besides "Drink more hot water!" And "wear more layers!")

Because of having to practice for a year end show there was not time to observe any kdrama toddlers style antics.

Also learned that making sure you pronounce "Zhang da chu" the right way means the difference between saying you are a "christmas tree" and "chef Zhang"

Dramaland

Priminister and I: lagging a little behind but read the recaps. By the wife is alive?! I'm not to happy with this. I felt that there surely would have been enough conflict in the drama itself instead of adding more by bringing the wife back. So many rom-com's seems to get very serious all of a sudden..

In a good way: I love this drama. More drama's needs to be more like this.

Boku ni ita jikan: this drama will hurt. I can tell. Still reminds me a little of 1 liter of tears with its story, although this drama does stand alone.

Snow white: started this oldie out of curiosity. Not gotten far but I can say this: YEH's perm in Mirae's choice was nothing compared to this leads curls...

I expected it from the writers of PM&I 'cause Romantic comedy in the industry is often seen as a "starter" but what these writers really want to write is Melo considering their fails from other shows where they took a good premise, great actors and ruined it with bad writing.

Take Care of Agassi pretty much sums up the whole pattern for me from these writers. Which is why I'm holding out recommendations until it ends. They still have plenty of episodes to screw it up.

BTW, personally anything of Seong Yoori's before Hong Gil Dong kinda sucked and sucked bad (not 100% her fault, but she did contribute). She had two dramas be bad in a row. Snow White is marginally better than the two on the suck list. (To be clear, there is WTF Paris bad and there is OMG, why, why bad. She had the latter kind of bad).

Yeah rom-com's turning melo about halfway through or towards the end seem pretty common. i just wish for one that stays a rom-com all the way through!

I have the same with some jdrama's though, where you have shown no romantic interest or anything. And then BOOM the last minute you get love confession + ending kiss.

I don't think I have seen Seong Yoori in anything. Haven't gotten around to watch Hong Gil Dong yet either. I just read one version of the prmise for Snow White and though "this could be entertaining" so decided to try it.

Another homespun remedy are onions. Mince some onions, mix them with sugar, put them into an empty glass of marmalade, shake it, wait a couple of hours. Drink the juice. Just like onions help with ear infection. Magic.
Or you hollow out a radish, fill it with rock sugar, wait a couple of hours and then drinkt the juice.
Or you boil some potatoes, put them into a cloth, crush them and put them as hot as possible on your chest. Helps with sinusitis too.

Get better soon!

--- Yes, more dramas like this. these people do things that real people do. nothing contrived, no beyond-the-ridiculous backstabbing, no perfect beings but 3-dimenionsal characters, people with feelings that they explore slowly and sincerely. I rewatched half of the first episode, and realised that Liu Chan was continuously staring (and stealing glances) at Jia En right from the beginning. I can't wait until he gets to actually confess his feelings AND let them out freely in a relationship with Jia En, because he's looking so serious and sad nearly all the time. I really hope they'll give us a good few episodes of their happy times together...

--- That's why I'm not watching this one. Same old tearjerker we've had before, don't need the pain of watching this one. There are very few terminal illness dramas I've liked (Kaze no Garden), and Miura isn't enough of a pull for me to suffer through this one.

Yeah, I'm not a lover of the terminal illness trope but I gotta hand it to the Japanese for even having such a trope. "The noble well-lived life" etc. Whether it's Akira or Hours, I wish there was such a type of drama in the US.

Yes exactly! the characters are real people and their interactions feel real as well. Haha yeah Liu Chan has always been fascinated by Jia En and you can see how his feelings naturally change from that first spark of curiosity into definitively feeling more than friendship (I see what you did there pretend simple-thank-you-meal)

With Jia En as well you can see the natural growth. From being clingy towards Rui Wei in the beginning to growing into her own person. Also liked Bei Xi's confessions of her feelings and even her "I want to like someone who likes me. But I just can't" speech.

I never saw Kaze no Garden but I did enjoy 1 liter of tears (in that I've rewatched it a number of times and it always make me sub like a baby)

So glad someone else has seen Kaze no Garden and loved it.

Agree with every word you say, it's sad but also so heartwarming. Love everything, from the language of flowers/Gaku's voice-over narration, each and every character from the grandpa to the young beekeeper that pursues the sister...

I've always liked slice of life stories, but In A Good Way is a tad bit too slow for me. I still continuously watch it, but I do wonder whether it's going anywhere any time soon. I do like the way Jia En has grown from a girl who's clingy to be this person who stands up for the right thing (I wave my fist at you, you bad prof!!!). However, I can't say that the show doesn't warn me about it being slow, it reminds me time after time "it's about the journey, not the ending!" :)

I get what you mean with the 'slow'. I don't actually think it's that slow, just that it contrasts with the pace of nearly all other dramas out there, so it seems slower than it is.

- It's 1.5 hours per episode (which, in contrast to the 45 min to 1 hour of the k and j dramas I watch is so much longer).

- Though we are half-way probably half-way through at this point, no one has yet hooked up with anyone, no extensive love-teasing, but just people who first got interested and then slowly came to the realisation within themselves that they like someone (and in some cases, they haven't even made it to that point yet), without yet acknowledging this aloud (with the exception of RW, who of course started by confessing, and BX, who confessed after a few years of holding it in prior to the drama's timeline).

- We've also been with our characters for a couple of years (thanks to the time-skip, which I thought was very real), so it's not the usual speed-paced first-encounter-to-marriage-proposal-within-a-few-months that you get in oh-so-many dramas (Pursuit of Happiness being a recent TW-drama example).

I agree. I can see where it can come off as slow, but at the same time I don't find it slow. It rather have a "slower pace " if that means realistic characters and no over the top evil ones to make drama.

0

What I do very much appreciate from TW shows that I've seen (not that I've seen a lot, I think I've seen a total of 4), is the more realistic and happy examples of older married couples. Like Jia En's parents for example. I love the way her dad still teases her mom and the warm loving expression the parents have for each other without going over board. I've always wondered why Kdramas OTPs are so eager about getting married when pretty much all of the couples who ARE married seem to be so miserable in their marital lives.

0

Yeah love the relationship between her parents. TW drama's have their share of crazy manipulating mothers/fathers as well, but they also have nice parents that actually get to live for the entire show (unlike the norm in kdrama land)

I hope you recover from your cold quickly. Take care!

Very interesting about the “Zhang da chu” pronounciation. I can imagine if one is not careful, the most amusing conversations take place!

I've heard of "In A Good Way". Is it really good? A lot of things keep popping up here and there about it.

Regarding Prime Minister & I. I'm barely on episode 2, but I already heard about the wife.

Like you and others, I'm asking why. ..... Although, to be honest, I had a feeling this was a possibility when, in the first episode, it's mentioned that she "disappeared". ..... So, not exactly at the scene of the accident.

I thought, "Uh oh."

haha yeah, my housemate had one where he was trying to ask for water but was in fact asking for "sleep". My "zhang da chu" one was more about mixing two different pronounciations and words together, but its easily done. And at least people laughed so hey that's something :p

In a good way is good. Really really good. I so recommend you watch it. No evil second leads, characters feel natural and interacts naturally with each other. friendships and feelings get to grow in their on pace and people actually talk about things!

If this is Mandarin you are talking about, Christmas tree is actually "Sheng dan shu", while chef Zhang is "Zhang da chu".

Hello! Ma armastan uisutamist. I love skating. Uisutamine ei armasta mind vastu, kahjuks. Skating doesn´t love me back, unfortunately. Tõestatud. Proven.
I was watching Man From Another Star and Min Joon felt like a totally different type of hero. Quiet, grumpy, seemingly fearless, but surprisingly passionate.... and fearful on the inside. So I was suddenly thinking: is he very different from other heroes we know? What type of heroes do dramas have anyway? What type of heroes do we love at different times? Could we say there is a certain type of hero in the 1990ies dramas, and a certain type in the 2000nds? There is like a list of everything at all times I guess, but at some point one type prevails and at another time a different one.
There is the puppy, sincere, adoring, and impulsive. I´d call him Puppy-Adonis and his usually noona-love is his Aphrodite.
There is the chaebol with mother issues. And a past trauma, or difficult love, or a phobia... let´s call him Sour Money.
There is The Artist – musicians, painters, dancers, photographers.
What else?
The Lonesome Celebrity? The Bratty Prince? The Papa Bear? The Heroic Hoodlum? The Delinquent Sweetheart? And naturally – The Evil Male B**** (a la Jae Kyung....ugh seriously). I will take a Tortured Villain over the Male B**** anytime)

And what about women? Are there certain repeating types of heroines? As of lately it seems dramas are bringing out individuality more ( even though The Imperfect Diva is sort of becoming a thing now). I love the last few heroines I have seen – they are strong, stubborn, frank, yet vulnerable....I asm reminded of the Destinys´ Child song Survivor when I see them. I think this type of women certainly did not exist in older dramas. And they are not bitter and cynical either. They are fierce but not bitter or angry. I would call this type The 9-Lives-Cats, cause they always fall on their feet and rise above all trouble.
I certainly don´t like The Tragic Cinderella type of women, all weepy and complete doormats. But on the other hand, The Cheerful Idiot is not my favorite either. You know, whose only good trait is the cheerfulness . I do like most of The Self-Styled Workaholics though. And The Romance Starved Lady Bosses.... who seemed very popular a couple of years ago. Oh, and the Mysterious Super-Teachers / housekeepers / insert professions. Late Love-Newbies. And Switch-On Seductresses.
Can you think of some „hero types” and say when you think these were popular?
Also, I am on vacation now, whoopeeee! I get to work on an art project. I am combining rusted metal, felt and embroidery.... . And tomorrow is my birthday btw.

Happy birthday! Palju õnne sünnipäevaks :)

If not skating, how about cross-country skiing? It's fun too. It's the only sport I ever got a medal for. Who cares that the organizer knows how to make categories so that every contestant gets one ;P.

And now I have to disagree: I have a feeling that the female leads now are more cardboard cutouts than the ones from several years ago. Most of the older dramas I have seen had those complex, close-to-life characters that made me interested and invested (the last revelation : 9 end 2 outs, highly recommended). Actually, I have a feeling that the last two seasons were almost completely devoid of well-written and well-acted female characters and now we're experiencing a lavish outburst of them. Especially in Miss Korea - JiYoung, the Madames, Miss Scientist, The Politician's Daughter and maybe someone else.

As for the types - I think the best characters are the ones that you cannot sum up with a single name, they surprise you with every episode. I would rather pick up traits that make a character for me - the confidence to be yourself, wit, loyalty and many others - I can fall head over heels for any character who convinces me that what he or she does with his/her life makes sense or that they have a legit reason to make it absurd.

great answer!
I like skiing, but I love skating more. it is not that I am bad, but for a person whose mind gets distracted so easily and starts to wonder, the ice is not a good place. have to pay attention

thank you for the birthday wish :-)) haha, great to have someone speak a few words estonian!

I kind of started to come to that conclusion myself - that it is more complicated than being able to sum a type of character up with one name. there are layers to each that peel off or grow on strong. there is always a first impression and the growth and the result, and characters change during the drama.

come to think of that, heroes change, villains... well, some of them. even the mean characters change

I guess I haven´t watched THAT many old dramas to know them, my "old" would be prior to 2006 I guess. just a few older. but I think I am switching to them gradually. I haven´t been able to find too many engaging dramas from the past two years. there are one or two in a year, but mostly the plots and the writing are shaky... trying to be too inventive and not relying on the power of a good character to pull the viewer in. I really think that does 98% of dramas´success. cause the characters write their own story. my ideal TV characters are always Mulder and Scully from X files. you got this obsessed guy and a calm, logical woman and you got a setting, bam! the characters will tell you what is going to happen.

0

Required fields are marked *

How I loved Mulder&Scully. But also Skinner and the Smoker. My childhood. Strange that most things I watch now are comedies and dramas (in Western meaning). I guess X Files was so good because it had lots of suspence but it wasn't gore, offputting or disgusting. And that unusual relationship between the agents - whatever it was.

As for the older kdramas - I have seen quite a few of them, but I guess I picked the best of the best, so my judgement may be a little overestimated. It was in the summer that I realised how fresh the older dramas felt, again, maybe the impression was stronger because of the lackluster year that we had?

maybe because of the last mentioned, or maybe because they were ahead of time? or maybe cause they did not push it so hard and thought more of their story than "what will the viewer think of me?" like today. not necessarily trying to please, perhaps taking risks...

Happy OT

Prime Minister and I: Why oh why? I … don’t want ‘dead’ wife to screw everything up now that both have acknowledged their feelings! I love that the kids (even Woo Ri who was adorable in this week’s episodes) finally see DJ as part of their family and I mean… even Yul has confessed his feelings. I just want a happy ending that is all!

YFAS: The scene were MJ rejects SY nearly killed me (twice^^)... Kim Soo Hyun's eyes speak for themselves and you can see that while he is rejecting her with words he is longing for her with his eyes! I could lose myself in those eyes :D Ah and drunk SY is one of my favourite things :D She is hilarious^^
I swear…whenever KSH cries I cry -.- His tears just get me every time (and I shouldn’t have watched the final episode of Moon/Sun right after YFAS 12 because the crying continued :P).
I have no idea how the drama is going to make them be together at the end because… him dying or leaving earth is NOT an option! You hear me drama! Alien oppa needs his love! And after that happy dream of MJ I am not going to accept anything else than a happy ending!!!

Age of Feeling: I really like it so far though there are soooo many characters …

INR 3: This one is so good =) I wasn’t sure after last week but now I am in love! Now that the cohabitation hijinks will begin (because they will, right) I can’t wait for the next episodes.

Variety:

Running Man: Oh man Bo Young needs to come more often! She’s great =)
It was a fun episode and the mini missions for the couple (JH and JS were adorable^^) cracked me up so much :D
Though I guess JS and Jongsookie were by far my most favourite thing xD

Happy Together: Oh man… that Late Night Cafeteria was a disaster :D But hilarious to watch xD And all the bickering between the comedians were great! A very enjoyable episode.

Superman Returns: Junu and Junseo kill me! Especially Junu who is so mature for his age! Oh and I don’t know if the whole praising dad’s cooking thing was a good idea :D Just gives him the confidence to continue cooking :P
Haru and Tablo had me in tears this time when they were visiting his father’s grave (and his interview sections) =( That was so touching especially when he said he always calls the whole family to watch the show but can’t call his dad anymore. That just got me right in the heart! And how awesome was Hyejung sneaking in and scaring the bejesus out of Tablo?! :D

CKOTB: Badminton break =) Nice to see a different sport again and yay for seeing some familiar faces again! I love it when they play with/against National athletes and they crack me up so much :D There is so much pride at stake for the NA’s it’s hilarious how they celebrate won points^^ And I am soooo happy for Chansung to finally win a match! Poor guy couldn’t catch a break when they were first playing. Oh and Nichkhun just amazes me with his badminton skills!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well today.

So I came across a travel program this week on tv, which focuses on going around and photographing different places in South Korea. The hosts are photographers, usually from different countries, and they show where they went and the pictures they took.

One of the places the hosts went to was Bukhangang River, located near the DMZ. ....... The landscape was beautiful with the running water, rocks and trees.

The hosts, along with a guide, arrived at a lookout point near the water and there was a monument with an inscription and a hand sticking out of it ....... Imagine a person who is going to shake your hand, that's what this looked like. ....... People who visit can touch the hand. ....... When I saw the hand, I said to myself, "I may be imagining things, but I think I've seen that hand before!"

Sure enough, it's So Ji-sub's hand!! ....... The guide indicated that So Ji-sub was personally involved in being the hand model a couple of years ago. ...... So if you ever find yourself in that place and shake hands with the hand from the monument, well, I guess it's the next best thing to actually shaking hands with So Ji-sub.

Who would've thought that, thanks to a Kdrama .... the fantastic Master's Sun ..... I'm now able to identify body parts that look familiar!

Kdrama-viewing this week:

A Warm Word - Continues to be very interesting. The hurt, the pain, the mistrust, the guilt, the disappointment. What a collection of feelings to wake up to everyday. ........ Ji Jin-hee. Like fine wine. So good. ....... On a side note, when the MIL was picked up at the airport, what the hell was that whole scene with her chewing gum? ....... Seriously, what was that?

Prime Minister & I - Just started this one and oh, what fun! ..... Lee Beom-soo in fine form here.

You From Another Star - Just started this one also. ....... Still setting things up, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

Non-drama viewing:

Appa Oediga - I can't believe it's been 1 year with these kids! ...... Still watching their New Zealand adventure and enjoying every minute of it.

Downtown Abbey - I hope the season does not end without Lord Gillingham's valet being caught and punished. What he did is beyond horrible.

That's it for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

I love Hyorin's "Hello". I found it catchy from the start, but I watched a clip with the translations yesterday and my heart just melted. Perfectly in tune with the conflict in the show.

For those who have not seen the translation:
You came to me by coincidence and embraced me
And as we blankly stared at each other, you said goodbye
You only passed through in my dreams
But now you’re in front of me

Love has come
But you say you’re leaving
I waited for you
But you say I can’t see you anymore
Always like a fool
The flowing tears tell me
Goodbye now, goodbye

Happy OT Beanies!

I love summertime: I love rain, and I love sunshine, it's a good thing when you can have both, no? On to the dramas... I swear my #1 new year's resolution was to stop watching K-dramas (because I want school to take precedence) but it's like the Drama Gods were like, "Bitch please, good luck with that!" because at the moment I am watching about 4 dramas and I can't stop watching any one of them-oh!

You From Another Star--I love this drama, I can't elaborate more than that. One thing though, I hope Yoo Se Mi gets her just desserts. That girl is one scheming bitch…

I Need Romance--I like it so far. Noona romance FTW!

Age of Feeling--I am watching this solely for Kim Hyun-Joong. I really could not connect with his character in Boys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss is not even a worthy mention. So, I want to get rid of my prejudice (my friends loved BoF and they think my dislike for the drama is wholly unfair) and acknowledge his *cough*previously non-existent*cough* acting skills. He sure is pretty though, I will give him that.

Could We Love--It hasn't really drawn me in yet but I have hope. High hopes.

Another thing--I have a friend who gets on my nerves mainly because she whines that the K-Dramas I like (and watch) are boring. This friend is a Lee Min Ho die-hard fan, she thinks Boys Over Flowers was the second coming of K-Drama rom-com (she is entitled to her opinion after all) and she watched City Hunter, she loved it, but can't remember a thing other than Lee Min Ho was kick-ass in that drama *insert major eye-roll here* So my problem is, what drama can she watch then (Heirs is not on the table) because she did not like:

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho--she said Shin Min Ah was annoying with stalker-ish ways (I’m like, “How do you not like SMA?!”)

The Moon That Embraces The Sun--I'm not a huge fan of it either but the first 4 episodes (at least) should do something to you, namely to hook you in. It's not that she doesn't like sageuks, she loves Dae Jang Geum. She just doesn't like it. (Yeo Jin Gu and Kim Soo Hyun—that duo was perfection and you do not like either of them???)

Reply 1997--Where to start? She doesn't think any of the characters are worth watching, she thinks Lee Min Ho should have been the lead character despite the fact that Lee Min Ho was not even in the drama (At this point I’m banging my head on the wall with frustration)

Dream High--I thought this was a sure winner: young cast and 2 male leads that were definitely not lacking in the looks department...NEXT! (She needs divine intervention, this girl)

Coffee Prince--She kinda sorta liked it mainly because she had seen it on TV some years back. But she thought Gong Yoo was not all that

Thing is, she’s not new to the K-Drama world; just this other day she was begging me to let her watch A thousand Kisses on my computer only to start whining about 45 minutes into the drama. She knows a lot of dramas but she just can’t like any of them. And I’m stuck with her until I start school in Feb. Any suggestions, guys?

Secret Garden, Gaksital! (major City Hunter feels), for sageuk it would be The Princess' Man (the only sageuk that did it for me).

Hmm, what else for classics you should go for My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, Sassy Girl Chun Hyang is also a gem.

But if you need leads who are inhumanely good looking you should go for That Winter The Wind Blows. (sadly the storyline is not up to par)

Your friend seems to want pretty faces kicking butt OR Harem romance.

I'm sorry to report this to you, but it kinda seems like your friend doesn't care so much about the content of the story itself. She seems to care a lot more about the fantasy of three or more pretty men around her???<--said in a joking voice. But then, who doesn't like that fantasy (though must be difficult in RL).

So I think her drama type from what you said are pretty faces to look at with a fluffier story line which makes it super easy to digest. (So things like Goong and Prime Minister and I are out. Anything with heavy thinking or observing skills are out.)

Gakistal? Though that might be too high brow for her.

Iljimae? (Not the Return of it, the other one--prettier face. I marginally liked the plotting better, but it doesn't seem to matter to her).

Also, it seems like she likes Harem dramas a lot, which makes me think she'd like Hana Yori Dango (the Japanese version) which had pretty faces throughout, and other harem dramas from Japan. (where the Harem are all boys).

She might like Twenties, because it's light, fluffy, and light on story content.

J dramas like Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge are probably more her style.

Start with things you know she likes and the genre she said she likes.

I would test case her: Show her Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge and see what she says.

And try Gaskital which is a little bit of a long shot. If she goes towards Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, then you know for 100% sure she wants pretty faces without much thought. (nothing wrong with that) and if she doesn't mind Gaskital, then you know she has more range than she's claiming.

If you want to test her range further, you can try AM1994, if she protests at the end that Oppa should have lost, then that will show you the range of her interests. If she doesn't mind by the end that Oppa won, then it will show she has observing skills (noonchi in Korean) and really doesn;t mind that pretty faces don't always win.

^^;; I do this kind of drama matching up a lot. So test her range within her range. After you get that, you can match more dramas, more closely to her tastes. (Though harem dramas with a bunch of male leads isn't common in Korea--it's more of a Japanese thing. In which case you might have a Japanese drama fan on your hands.)

Aww man! If I were you I would avoid the conversation topic of Korean dramas altogether when I'm with her. I have a friend who loves Korean dramas too but we do have different opinions about different dramas, but thankfully we respectfully agree to disagree. Most importantly, we love Kim Soo Hyun equally.

I've watched a lot of KDramas in the last 2 years. I blush to admit that Reply 1997 and Dream High I dropped, BOF has a fond place in my heart and I enjoyed Coffee Prince but didn't drool for Gong Yoo. Not sure if this means I have similar tastes to your friend.

If your friend likes light-hearted shows with pretty young men, I second Kim Yoonmi's suggestion of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. I would add to that Ouran High School Host Club and Hana Kimi.

Just adding the subs on both were good.

Julie has the right idea, though, pretty faces, easy storyline, I think would fit very much with what she's asking for.

You are Beautiful I bet she'd like over Best Love. (Another of the same type and easy to watch.)

She "kinda" liked CP? Gong Yoo is "not all that"? Blasphemy! I'm half-joking here, of course.:) Like several people suggested, she might enjoy You're Beautiful or Love Marriage. Also: Plan B (with Rain). Won't suggest Goong, because there's way too much plot, or rather, whatever plot there is is stretched out to the max. If she's old enough, maybe The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry (there's quite a lot of plot, but it's also cute and has Kim Bum in it) or Protect the Boss (bickering and cute leads) will do the trick.

Gee, I thought I was the only one who thought CP was overhyped and was not into Gong Yoo. Let the torture begin, but I will take the beatings and keep watching what I like.

If she likes pretty faces and younger actors How about Love Rain? It is slower plot wise and there is a whole 1970's segment to get through but the cinematography is gorgeous. Considering that both Boys over Flowers and City Hunter are based on graphic novels (manga), how about Playful Kiss? Also, Skip Beat could work, it is another drama from a manga. It's a taiwanese drama, but the male lead is Korean ( Choi Si-Won from Super Junior).

I have to admit I liked the novel ending of Coffee Prince better than the drama. There was more added makjang to the drama, whereas the novel played more like slice of life. Even then, I have a soft spot for Vineyard Man over Coffee Prince, though I know it doesn't have the face appeal and the kissing isn't as intense, I found the story a lot more sweet. Hi all:

Here we're going through ye old arctic blast/polar vortex. And next week..yet another storm. So frustrating.

Drama stuff:
Age of Feeling: Those kid actors were sooo good!!!! My weird hottie KHJ has much to live up to but wow, did I EVER get goosepimples when he made his entrance? I did kinda groan at the old misunderstood dad-avenger thing. This is the fourth drama I can think of where --oops!-- the avenger goes off half-cocked thinking he/she knows ALL the facts of some death/coma. Cruel City, Secret, PM&I, and now Inspiring Generation. I can only hope that the avenger-nun in Angel's Revenge has all the facts before she starts her vengeance cause so far am loving it.

Loving Miss Korea: Didn't want to return to it cause I really hate cruelty, especially herd-mind cruelty against one good soul..but dang the lovers are so mature and real. Second Lead is also attractive in his selfish-douchebag sort of way. Everytime I'm about to like him, he shows his emptiness..and bingo..NOPE.

You who came from another star: Seriously, is an alien who has lived on earth for 400 years going to really believe that a vicious murderer will "keep a promise not to bother a heroine if alien takes the blame?" So not believabe that hero could be this naive about human evil. Just saying. Am shipping boycrazy ahjumma with Hui Kyeong.

Prime Minister and I: Dropped it. Yep, i can take a lot of weirdness --such as overdoing the coincidence factor-- in a drama if it was weird from the beginning. But coincidence later in the story and adding an unnecessary conflict when the story had other more organic conflict to mine...well, as John Lennon said, "I just had to let it go."

Wang Family: Am seriously hating Not-Mom. What a despicable selfish human being! When oh when will Min-jung find out about Miho? I can't take the wait anymore. Writer-nim, stop dragging it out...ESPECIALLY, quit using coincidental interruptions to stop the news from coming out.

Gonna see Let's Eat later. love this drama. Still loving second lead but...

Wondering what will happen now that Boys before friends has lost its main actress for the second time and has now lost its main F4 guy. Aaargh. Just when i was getting addicted to it.

Hours of My Life...oh my gosh!! So good. Now am battling Dramafever's silly marketing. Might just take the plunge. Viki was also weirding out sometimes with You who came from the stars.

New subbed episodes of Otomen popped up. happiness.

Divorce Lawyer (forgot j-title):really liking it.
KBS dramas: The drama specials are so good although some of the writers seem addicted to melancholy, wrong, sad, cryptic endings. So i've now made it a habit to read the youtube comments to see if I should watch. Not something I do with other dramas. Love & War 2 series is good as well but it can feel a bit repetitious at times. Money and in-laws.

Variety shows: loving cool kiz, happy together, etc

Thanks for always being here, dramabeans and beanies.

<Miss Korea –– have only been reading the recaps (watched a few eps in the beginning) because I have no time, but I very much ship the OTP. Did so right from the start. Yoon: I don't care what he does, his sleazy 'entertain me and sleep with me' in the early episodes made me dislike him intensely. That's the sort of guy that after such an encounter I would keep my distance from forever. His latest demand only underlines that he's a manipulative guy that you best don't engage with.

<You who came from another star – I don't think that Min Joo thinks for a second that the evil guy is to be trusted about any promise. Not sure why he met with JK, perhaps to show him that he's alive and kicking (=unkillable), though we know it wasn't/isn't quite so simple as that. I'm convinced the only way for JK to stop killing is for him to end up dead – and I'd guess that MJ knows that too (and if that is what it comes down to, he'd do it before leaving). That said, since JK's method is just to kill everyone that knows anything of his secret, he's bound to be discovered soon because while you might be able to hide one murder, the more you need to cover up, the more difficult it will get. The ex-wife, Min joo, the little brother, the prosecutor and the other detective all already know and/or are suspicious.

0

Required fields are marked *

But what is JK's secret? I'm still wondering who he killed in the first place for ex-wife to be imprisoned for it. Or if it wasn't a murder, why is she in there? Is she telling folks he's a serial killer? A murderer? Why? And why doesn't he just kill ex-wife?

Required fields are marked *

If someone's super crazy (or thought to be super crazy), there's no need to kill them. But lately things have been spiralling out of control for JK, which is probably why he's resorting to just shutting people up. He can't kill her now (she's supposed to be somewhere else, plus, if people around him start dying like the flies, it'll get suspicious quickly enough.)

Of course, the big question is what IS his secret. There's the ominous ring. There's the person that spit into MJ's coffee 30 years ago that looked like JK. There's JK's older dead brother, whose death is very, very suspicious. I also still wonder about the Joseon times, and if there is any connection with Yi-Hwa's fate back then (remember, she was someone's window that some wanted dead). Who was that dead husband? And how did he die? It might not matter, or it just might...

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I'm thinking about the ring also. If I see one more close-up of it! It is possible that her possible husband back then was
Hui Kyeong as well.

0

Good points all.I'm convinced though, that Jae Kyung is definitely NOT an alien. Because if he were, he would have super powers and not be freaked out by Min Joon's disappearing acts. So his secret must be something else. If his secret is that he killed his older brother to get his position, then, why didn't he kill his wife who knew about it? Why confine her to a mental institution but start killing everyone else? That's something I'm confused about.

Also, you can't keep killing people without leaving clues somewhere and he's taking a lot of risks and making people around him suspicious. Unless of course, he's addicted to killing and can't stop himself.

I initially thought that the ring he keeps fiddling with on his finger belonged to a cult, or a secret society, but seeing that Song Yi has a similar ring herself (they showed it in the episode where she went to see the shrink), I no longer think that's the case. Maybe, it's just a mannerism of his to keep twirling that ring on his finger. Anyway, can't wait till episode 13. One more week - how do I endure it? Oh!

0

if he did originally kill someone I bet he doesn´t even remember who all the people are he has killed.
it is getting ridiculous. but wait, what if he IS an alien and his wife saw something and he called her crazy....no that doesn´t add up either.
what a mystery. we need Sherlock. although he would just call us morons and refuse to help.

I'm seriously with you on the age of feeling revenge plot for Kaya, her misunderstanding jung tae's father for killing her father is one thing and I totally understand she wants to take revenge on him by killing him, but why oh why she wants to kill jung tae too like if he was the one who killed her father, I liked her strong character up to that point in the drama but now I'm so pissed off with her, she doesn't have any right to threaten jung tae like that, asking him to grow up so she can kill him, oh god I was so pissed when she said that, now I will not be able to take her revenge thing seriously, the drama is still good except her revenge part, now jung tae's story is pretty captivating, his hardships, his desperation, his sick sister all made me pretty much invested in his character, also liked KHJ's entrance at the end of ep 4, his action scenes were solid and I sincerely hope he manages to prove his critics wrong through this drama.

I haven't seen such a perfect super-hero poor guy thug in ages. Loved the backstory. Not maudlin or self-pitying or hyper-holier-than-thou. Just a decent guy who wanted to do good for his sister. I hope he finds healing for his wounded heart. The world has made him a little crab, hard on the outside but with a softness inside.

Not liking the whole "oops I was mistaken in my vengeance" trend in Korean dramas now... Maybe it's a kind of Buddhism and spirituality thing: "Viewer, don't be like this vengeful character....don't be so sure you have the facts...question yourself. Have you dedicated all your life, energy, goal, and purpose to the absolute wrong cause? Has the entire purpose of your life been hijacked by a mistake?"

Still, I'll accept it. Between all the mistaken avengers occurring in k-dramas lately, this one was the worse. Because heroine just went totally bat-shit crazy, as if she always had it in her to be cut-throat out of all proportions. I can see her wanting to kill Dad-presumed murderer but wanting to kill her friend as well? Am glad she's kinda calmed down and hoping she's wrong.

Since the viewer is aware that heroine is mistaken --in the beginning of the drama instead of in the middle (PM&I)-- then I can deal with it because it isn't derailing the plot, it's creating the plot.

I Need Romance 3- Of the I Need Romance series this is the one I like the most so far, and so maybe I'll actually watch it all the way through. I like everyone even the ex-friend.

Prime Minister and I- From the preview it looks like ex-wife might not show up to screw things up, in fact it looks like she might tell In Ho the truth of what happened, maybe ending his resentment of Yool.

Miss Korea- I haven't watched this weeks episodes yet but still, never before have I still loved all the women in a Korean drama this far in.

You From Another Star- Still enjoying it.

Hours of my Life- It's been over two years since I really watched a Japanese drama, I've never watched one as it airs before. It's been reminding me of things I had forgotten about Japanese dramas, even things that have nothing to do with Hours of my Life and how much I miss them. As for the show itself I quite enjoy it and have faith that the end will be bittersweet because from my memory Japan likes to make uplifting, heartwarming, bittersweet stories about people dying instead of straight up manipulative melodramas.

Hi Beanies, happy OT!

A plethora of fantastic shows is airing right now.

My latest crack is Can We Love. Wow. Just wow. I fell so hard! This came totally unexpected, because I never understood all the hype about Uhm Force, but now I really, really get it. *SPOILER* That kiss! O.O They show us love in all its facettes and I’m looking forward to see how our leading ladies will cope with it. (Btw in contrast to INR3 this show delivers on the noona-dongsaeng front. Puppy fighting! Although Sun Mi doesn’t deserve you at the moment) */SPOILER*

Empress Ki had a terrible ep 22, but the last two eps made more than up for it. Looking forward to see Ki and the Emperor bring down the baddies with a little help by WY.

A Warm Word continues to impress me. Now that the sh*t hit the fan I’m very curious how it will end. My heart aches for the young lovers.

Miss Korea – saw 3 eps so far and will continue. Looking good.

Prime Minister and I – Lee Boem Soo is growing on me. Will continue, but overall the show is only meh.

I watched Delightful Girl Choon Hyang and was in love with Uhm Tae Woong even tho' his character turned a bit shady. He is also in Dr Champ which is a good drama, but more about a bunch of one-sided loves so I could only half fall for UTW there. UTW is quite good to look at in Queen Seon Deok as the military man. Yet QSD can't really be described as a romance.

I only made it about halfway in The Devil. His detective character was a bit shoddy. Similarly, I lost interest in the melo/revenge drama Man of the Equator. I've never seen Resurrection but that sounds like a melo too.

So as I see it, Can We Love is my best chance to fall head over heels for Uhm Taw Woong. I'm rom/com girl and I'm happily in love with his character so far. I was cursing the interior decorator for complicating his already complicated courtship, but I'm glued to each episode.

The man is HOT. jmho.

TGIF!

Does anyone know what the deal is with Kim Bum's career? I just finished watching That Winter The Wind Blows, and in addition to Song Hye Kyo, who gave a spectacular performance, Kim Bum was also excellent n it. It just got me thinking...why hasn't Kim Bum achieved superstar status yet? It seems like a no-brainer. He's a great actor with depth and complexity, he has charisma and good looks...why hasn't he been getting good leading role opportunities? He has played supporting roles for so long. Is it just that he's not good at networking with directors/writers or something? Is it that once you're seen as a supporting actor, you're always seen as a supporting actor? I really don't get it.

I get why he doesnt get lead roles......he is a generic pretty boy actor whose lead roles can be taken by more famous as generic pretty boy actors who are often Idols.

There are better versions of him like Lee Min Hoo. That actor is popular because of his looks but he can act alittle too unlike Kim Bum.

There are many who lives on their looks being famous but still K-dramas need acting ability too. Not all fans of K-dramas care about an actor or actress being simply good looking. There are models, model shows for that....

Not to diss his fans or Kim Bum himself but there are many like him out there getting work.

LOL. Such random hostility to Kim Bum.

Also, I don't agree that LMH is a better actor than KB. LMH is decent enough but overrated. I was so bored by LMH in City Hunter that I could not finish it. He was not believable as an MIT genius/trained assassin. He was also not believable as a hardened general in Faith.

They are both good and they both can act. LOL. I guess we view things by our personal preferences. Kim Bum has often stated in interviews that he does not wish to be confined to one type of role - which is that of pretty boy lead actor - he has said he wants to be an CHARACTER ACTOR and choose various roles due to their complexity and his interest in them.

I think that this is a wise move and will guarantee him work for many years to come. It also gives him authenticity which I think LMH lacks because he is always drawn to lead roles of popular dramas (something like a Will Smith but without credibilty the indie movies like Six Degrees of Separation or Pursuit of Happiness gives him). I think LMH would do well to find roles to stretch himself without always thinking of lead roles as he might end up pigeon holed.

But they both have talent and are good actors - though I don't care much for Kim Bum's choices in roles. Other than Boys Over Flowers - all his other choices have put me to sleep.

Lee Min Ho would be more interesting as an actor if he varied his roles. I totally agree! And I admire Kim Bum for choosing a variety; I loved him in The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, but I also liked his best friend role in That Winter the Wind Blew. If you only play one character, how can you improve your acting? A variety of characters develops acting skills, which then makes later lead roles more convincing.

0

I totally like his pick of roles, can´t comment on his character or attitude. one thing for sure, although he may look like him a bit, he is a way better actor than Orlando Bloom.

I also liked the best friend in That Winter. he reminds me of a spark light, in a limited time gets your attention and brings a little color into the palette

0

I'm currently watching Padam Padam and I'm liking his character a lot. The thing about that show is when I'm not watching I barely remember it but when I am I thoroughly enjoy it. I think it's wise that Kim Bum doesn't confine himself to a specific genre or role and he wants to be a character actor, you can only go so far with a pretty face, and those don't last forever. I think his acting is pretty good and watching him transition from the pretty boy in BOF to less conventional roles like in Padam is a delight for me.

Where are Kim So-eun and Jung So-min anyway? I'm watching A Thousand Kisses right now and I love Ryu Jin and Kim So-eun, they are so adorable but that kiss made me all kinds of uncomfortable. I fast forward through all scenes where they aren't present. I'm completely immune to bitchy second leads so that ex doesn't even faze me. Can anyone recommend any good Jung So-min dramas, loved her since Playful Kiss. Also, what's the title of the Japanese version of Absolute Boyfriend? I watched the first episode of the Taiwanese one but I don't like Gu Hye-sun's acting it reminds me of Jan-di.

0

He was great as sidekick bestie in both That Winter, That Wind Blows and Padam Padam. Goddess of Fire was practically unwatchable but he was probably one of the only decent parts. He has the acting chops...not just a pretty face.

I personally think Lee Min-ho is overrated/hyped and seems to pick similar roles. I agree with you, Alexis...couldn't finish both City Hunter and Faith for the same reasons you stated. (And don't get me started about Heirs...)

At least Kim Bum picks varied roles, and I admire that about him. I do wish he'd get casted for a lead, because I think he can carry a drama.

0

Random hostiliy? I dont care that much, i just think there are many better actors of his type, in his generation. LMH wasnt great in City Hunter but he showed emotional depth in Fath and BOF. MIT genius was bad written but he was good as assassin.

We can disagree on Kim Bum ability but there is a reason his lead role dramas are totally dissed and why he doesnt get leading roles. Not because i think he is weak actor but because there are talented male leading role actors in 1986-1990 generation. From Joo Won, LSG,Jung Il Woo etc

I think it's because he has a bad reputation in Korea. There are rumors floating around that he is rude to his seniors and staff members on set, not that I believe any of that. Kim Soohyun also doesn't have such a good rep but fortunately for him he is an above average actor which make people overlook that side of him. He was the lead in a not-so-popular noona romance drama a few years back "The woman who still wants to marry" and I loved his character there. Sung Joon from "I Need Romance 3" reminds me of him. I think he's a decent actor. IMO any actor that makes me cry in a crying scene is a decent actor. My mum and I were practically crying while watching him in "East of Eden". Even as much as I love Kim Soohyun and Lee Seungi Gi, I've never cried in any of their dramas. So I think Kim Bum is a pretty good actor, he's just underrated.

Wow, that's interesting that there are such rumors floating around. It's surprising because I remember reading somewhere that KB was class president and captain of the soccer team in high school, and normally, someone with a bad personality would not get elected to things like that. Also, his costars have spoken positively of his maturity and personality. And I don't think Moon Geun Young would date someone with a bad personality. It's definitely surprising that there would be rumors like that.

I would wash the paw with a mixture of iodine and warm water, and put Neosporin on it afterward...until I got what my vet prescribed (Tresaderm, some refrigerated liquid medication) to put on the paw after cleaning with iodine/warm water mixture. Washed and put that medicine on twice a day for two weeks and the discomfort was gone.

Hi Guys

Im truly enjoying my K-dramas right now plus a TW series in A Good Way and Shitsuren Chocalitier being my only current J-Drama.

I feel the current K-dramas is stronger, more fun, better written than the weak second half, end of 2013 dramas. Im watching:

You From Another Star
I Need Romance 3
Inspiring Generation
Golden Rainbow

Im gonna start watching Miss Korea and Minister and I after all the praise too.

Two good rom-comcs, an epic period action, a family drama that works well thanks to UEE and JIW.

Since 2013 in the summer was my first time watching Asian dramas and mostly Korean i was getting off my high and love for K-drams thanks weak shows like Marry Him If You Dare, Heirs but current dramas has brought back my excitement for K,TW,J-dramas.

Happy Friday! Can you believe I posted a comment for the wrong drama on one of the threads? Funny, but a couple of people got it because they are watching both, too. That’s major kdrama overload! I’ve watched at least 20 episodes of drama and variety this week so far, so yeah, fried brains.

Really love our lead women Da Jeong, Shing Shing, Ji Young and Song Yi (I am truly digging the actresses in this round of rom coms). And yes, the male leads are yummy, too, and some of the chemi reactions are worthy, but I am so enjoying lead women whose behaviors, thoughts, decisions, actions and feelings I can applaud, positively relate to, and root for!

I like Inspiring Generation, but Jung Tae’s noble wrong reasons for the right cause feels boggy. If it all comes down to pure revenge, I'm not sure I can hang in. Also, none of the relationships -family or romantic – have felt convincing yet. But it’s early, and there’s lots of action (that is confusing at times). The cast is pretty impressive, too.

Boku no Ita Jikan *spoiler* oophf! A heavy melo that moves quickly ~ by ep 3 Sawada Takuto (Miura Haruma) finds out he has ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) at 23. I was so touched by the conversation between Sawada and his neurologist at the end of ep 3. Denial, bargaining, and the beginning of anger and reflection, wow this is weighty. Love the Jdrama pace and acting.

Oh, and I watched ep 9 of Woman. 2 more to go. It is so deeply moving and draining.

I plan on watching The Face Reader tonight.

Have a good weekend, everyone! \/ ♥

Yea, that scene with the neurologist was daebak! Can't recall ever seeing as touching as that. since we know this drama is going to be heavy, I wish there is DB-like land we can commiserate and get therapy.

Noble wrong reasons? You mean the fact he promised to look for Gaya's father's killer? I doubt he cares much about that in 8 year future/present time line. It wont be about revenge for him since we saw he didnt care about anything in the first ep.

Its Gaya whose live is only about revenge for her parents. The childhood part was saved by the good kid actors, the impressive adult cast. Its a bit too epic, too many characters fast paced flashback story so far.

I found Gaya and Jung Tae sweet young love to be convincing since it was the only good thing in their lives except their family members.

I was thinking more along the line of noble wrong reasons concerning his sister - but the tragedy of that may leave him conflicted over his father (still). I think the "a bit too epic" aspect may become overwhelming with the big scope of places, people, and events. We'll see.

Who wouldnt hurt his body and soul to take care of his sick sister? Specially when you are the eldest sibling, son with terrible dad. I hate his father just as much as Jung Tae does. Because there is no reason to leave a sick daughter like that.

I was more disappointed with the sister choosing to kill herself and not understand his willing sacrifice for her.

Its early in the series so the scope might get smaller, better balanced in the adult years, present times.

Actually because i like Sung Joon i started watching Can We Get Married earlier this week in drama.net.

I like the lead couple, SJ &JSM together and its very realistic in family, culture issues getting in the way of a sweet, normal couple that just want to get married.

I have seen 16 eps and it gets too repetitive at times because the leading female characters sister and her marriage is so annoying, over the top horrible to watch. I fast forwarded those parts at times. That couple get in the way of the drama. Its decent and okay watch for Sung Joon and the leading actress who looks like a more innocent looking Yoon Eun Hye.

I am loving Let’s Eat Poor Lawyer Kim with his mixed-up heart. Sweet harmless Jin-yi determined to build a surrogate family, and doing a find job of it. Dae-young’s unfaltering confidence in his likability. Ice Princess Soo-kyung’s quick temper and prickly disposition makes it hard for anyone to get close to her.

This week she initiated a group meal for the first time. There is growth! And how can I forget the food? Lots and lots of shots of people eating food. Most of the food is a culinary adventure for me but episode 9 they displayed some of the saddest nachos ever, they were a insult to gourmands everywhere. They looked like the kind of nachos one would get at seven/eleven, stale chips with liquid “cheese food” poured over the top. This show has done a great job of conveying the lusciousness of good food, they really dropped the ball with these stadium caliber nachos.

Could We Love/Can We Love The OTP are so great together. Thank goodness because I cannot stand the other two love lines. I hate watching the married friend interact with ANY of her family, they are all hateful. The single career woman a selfish, heartless thing. But all my hating aside, I love the show and want more of the OTP.

Also watching You From Another Star, Prime Minister is Dating, I Need Romance 3, A Little Love Never Hurts

Have a great weekend Y'all!

Yes to the Could we Love summary. Eugene and Uhmforce are the cutest.

I love Lets Eat. A show that is doing very will in obfuscating us with who the OTP is. This is how Reply 1994 should have done it. Regarding the nachos...but those are movie nachos here in Texas too. I kind of like that the "Western" food (movie theater food) was not portrayed as appetizing.
The way people were shoveling it in very messy, was kind of off putting.

Meanwhile, Im behind on Potato Star. But Im hoping No Min Hyeok's memory comes back within the 1st 1/2 of the series because Ko Gyung-Po is extra hot when he's being a BAWS!

I have a few Tumblrs that I visit everyday to humour myself. They're mostly animal Tumblrs and some funny Tumblrs relating to university life and law school, as I'm in law school. And of course my beloved Tumblr dashboard.

The animal Tumblrs I visit are (and so far they're only dogs):

I also stalk the Ellen Show YouTube and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon YouTube because they're funny. And I love the YouTubers nigahiga and jacksgap, even though their main demographic are probably teenage girls 8 years younger than me. Because I'm juvenile like that.

Drama.net i just discovered and its better than Gooddrama. Dramefever is uneeded because of the annoying ads and its weaker version of Viki for me.

Soompi K-dramas,movies forums when i want to lurk, watch the pics of the newest dramas. Althought the fans there are more idols fans that watch dramas only because their fav singers, actors does them. Not as regular drama fans as here in Dramabeans.

It's sooooo awesome! They're gradually putting up all kinds of cool stuff, like most (all?) of their variety shows. Hopefully they'll get to older dramas soon and I won't have to dig around for them.

I especially love that they're putting up Season 1 of 1N2D because my cousin has been bugging me to watch it for a really long time, but I'm the kind of completist who has to start from the very beginning, heh. Haven't started on it yet, but it'll definitely come in useful on a lazy day. :D

It is a big bummer. Two Suggestions:

1. if you remember~before you submit your comment you can highlight it and [right click/copy] so if it is lost. all you have to do is paste your comment in the box again.

I tend to forget to do that.

2. If you are like me an forget to copy your comment before submitting Try this- hit your browsers back button ONCE. I have found that if I do that it takes me back the the page I typed my comment into and my comment is still there. [this is of course as long as I do not get a second Database Error]

But someone on a past OT recommended some plug-in that remembers any 'forms' you've filled in. Happy OT, everyone!

My poor limping lappy finally gave up the ghost during the East Coast snowstorm, putting a bit of a crimp in my drama watching. However:

- Watched both YFAS - and I can't wait to see the beginning of the next episode. The secrets are unraveling like a ball of yarn and a kitten, and it's both awesome and sad to see our alien losing it. And by I mean many things...

- Watched both PM&I - It's slowing down a bit, and I don't like how the past rears it's ugly head, but l suppose it was inevitable given how the past is already affecting the future. Is it a spoiler to want to smack the ex-wife?

- Up to episode 4 of Can We Love, and I am fulling on board with this gem. Older nice rich guys?? Adorable antics at the grocery store? Me likey!

- I went for a physical today, the first one in over 5 years. Word to the wise: be scared to hear the words "establish a baseline"...

- On Drama Noona's KDrama story, the very public very fake proposal is posted!

- I've downloaded "The Hours Of My Life" but I'm not sure if I can handle a slowly deteriorating Miura. Any thoughts?

Anyhow, normally I am all for supporting new media and all these internet television start-ups...but not if the quality is really awful, which I hear BBF-US is. Lack of money doesn't necessarily mean lack of quality, as a number of other internet video start-ups have proven.

Personally, this is not the show I would have chosen to adapt for an American audience. Even Playful Kiss/Mischievous Kiss would have been better than this. I think that the plots of suspense melodramas like Nice Guy or Seceret, or romantic comedies like Miss Korea, would have a greater appeal and a larger audience.

Oh, yeah, definitely check up on it! Basically if it's the model released mid-2012 to mid-2013 (Apple updates its configurations every summer), there'll be a firmware update appearing in the Updates section of the App Store that is supposed to detect if your daughter's Air has issues. Just google for any information - since Apple rarely issues recalls, this was covered by a lot of tech news sites. I believe the recall will be going on for some time, so you guys should have plenty of time to get it checked out! Note that it is strongly advised that you back up everything BEFORE you even run the update. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with yours, but if there is, just bring it into the nearest Apple store. I've heard of some lucky folks getting the newest model as a replacement due to whatever issues their store was having :D

There are some JDramas that are excellent but they kill off the hero/heroine. My bet is that a drama about ALS is likely to end like that.

I watched my father slowly deteriorate with ALS. I can't handle watching this drama. Best wishes to all who are brave enough to do so. I am sure Muira will do an excellent job.

I agree with you when you say that the Prime Minister and I is slowing down a bit. I found episode 13 a little slow and somewhat boring and as I was watching it I could see why PM&I couldn't compete with a Warm Word or Empress Ki for ratings. Don't get me wrong, I really like this fluffy rom-com, with excellent actors, great plot and beautiful scenery. But there is a clear lack of tension that one find's addicting in a Kdrama that keeps one going back week after week for more.

Everything in PM&I is resolved gradually or dealt with immediately which has it's pluses and minuses. It's great because it moves the plot along and avoids issues being overblown or becoming melo, but the minus is that it doesn't create enough of a draw for you to be haunted by it - there's curiosity about the next episode of the drama, but not addiction.

Happy Friday, Beanies. Spending the week enjoying the weather, even though I know the drought means the summer will be miserable.

Watching:
The Prime Minister & I: I'm with you, Carol. I think I may need to stop watching. I can't stand it going melo. I probably won't be able to keep myself from watching though.

You From Another Star Marathoned last week to catch up. It's good, but not one of my favorites. Just too much fantasy that I have to accept to follow the story. (And this coming from a Star Trek freak.) I did like the sequence of her freaking out after being rejected. So hilarious. And then his good dream was so sweet. He yearns for a family. What about his family on his home planet? Are they now dead?

A Little Love Never Hurts: Translated four episodes this past week. I find that when I get intimately involved with the words, my understanding of the drama changes. As for this past week's episodes, I just know that Ha Rim's mother is going to wreck it all. She's worse than the two sisters combined. I used to like her--probably because she saw the gem in the rough in Jae Min--but now I think she is just immature. I haven't watched a single K-Drama where the chaebol mother is a good person. (Well, wait. Was it My Name is Kim Sam Soon where the grandmother gets hurt and forgets who she is, so the girl takes care of her? That chaebol mother was pretty awesome.)

I loved the scene where Jae Min and his father say "I love you" to each other. And then the father gets a tear in his eye and hurries to call his girlfriend to tell her about it.

Boys Before Friends: This one is improving and I'm glad of it. I'm starting to feel I will actually finish it.

Also watched Downton Abbey and Sherlock. DA is just OK for me right now. Anna has always driven me crazy as a character. She has a victim personality. As for Sherlock, I fell asleep. But my daughter enjoyed it.

And a question: Have you seen the new iPad Air commercial from Apple? The one with the poem voice-over that goes, "...and you can contribute a verse"? I wonder who the Asian singer is in it. Here's a link to the commercial on You Tube. A good view of the singer is 1:26.

Yay, someone else who finds the new unneeded extra conflict in Prime Minister a bit much. I really like folks working out issues by going deeper into the plot/situation we already have instead of using a plot twist to derail choices a character is going to make. Too convenient. What? The writers aren't willing to make In-Ho go fully dark? They needed to give him an escape hatch? So annoying.

Boys Before Friend FB page talked about the loss of the second actress and the lead..so it looks like aroujnd episode 5, bingo...yet more new folks. I can deal. Funny what we can put up with and tolerate and what we can't. When you look at the credits for BBF, it's as if everyone in the cast also doubled as the crew. So it's a poor bunch of guys who have very little money. I'm gonna back them up even if the writing is cheesy and sometimes doesn't sound as if the script is written by a native-english speaker. I'm cheering them on....while cringing of course.

It is unneeded, but based on how the writers have been handling the drama with aplomb so far, I'm really not that worried. I'm fine with this as an escape hatch for In-ho, because this is a rom-com, and I hope it stays that way, so I don't really need him to go dark all the way.

Prime Minister and I...I did expect the ex-wife drama, since it's time for "the pain" before the happy ending.

Let's Eat. I really like this show because (other than the brief moments related to the stalker/killer) it's pretty much an enjoyable low-key comedy. I think the heroine's mom has made HER mind up about who is the OTP (I agree with her).

How much do I love that Miss Korea is one of the few KDramas I can remember that portrays most of its women as strong characters? I love the OTP here, and how his way of showing love is so sacrificial (even sacrificing his relationship with her, for her and for his co-workers/employees). And I love how she comes right back and shows her love for him by refusing to give him up.

I Need Romance 3 may turn out to be my favorite of the series.

Still loving In A Good Way, but I do anticipate "the pain" coming soon; hopefully we will have some development in the OTP relationship before then.

Still watching YFAS, Golden Rainbow, and Love Family as fill-ins when I'm not busy.

And, finally, Sherlock is airing in the US. Hurray! But we cut short our viewing OnDemand of the first episode on Monday evening to watch the Sleepy Hollow season finale. Awesome, never saw the twist coming. Now we have to wait till next fall!

Even the sometime airy Madame Yang broke my heart in the scene where she took out even more loan for this pageant. And Ji Young, once she made up her mind to love again, she is not going to give up. I just love this writer's treatment of this matter. Once an OTP is formed, they commit to each other, not giving anyone else the time and day. This was true in Pasta and it shows again here.

I really do love that it is NOT President Ma or Madame Yang that are abusing these girls. I know they would do the utmost to win Miss Korea, but they won't cause harm to their girls and they actually defend them quite viciously. I do love and appreciate that part.

@LizJ: I totally agree about Miss Korea - story-wise, it's the best of the dramas airing currently because it doesn't treat any character as a throwaway, and every single cast member is knocking it out of the park. Lee Yeon-hee is a revelation here, but all the women are great - I'm always glad to see Lee Mi-sook in a role she's really sunk her teeth into, and impressed that LYH can hold her own against her, but pretty much all the women of ViVi (ok, one woman) and the pageant world can be really great. Hell, they even fleshed out Jae-hee, Madame Ma's main candidate for the crown, and Madame Yang - that was an unexpected move, and I just keep hoping no one gets hurt :(

I like that they even made the jealous, b*tchy have a valid reason for going out to meet the guy and it wasn't superficial.
The whole theme of being scared for the future and financial uncertainty is woven into the story so well.
It'll be amazing if the writer can give depth to even those two insecure girls and not just have them as typical evil girls.

I like heroine's mom but so far the only glimmer of anything between mom's choice and neighbor is their shared love of food and the skinship when he wiped alcohol from heroine's face. They would be good friends, i think. Why can't it be a shipping for heroine and a best male friend/neighbor and ALSO heroine and a boyfriend/boss? I'd so like that. Doesn't seem as if insurance guy is gonna fall in love with anyone soon. But maybe love will take a while.

Alas, though, although I'm shipping boss and heroine, the opening credits always have boss and neighbor girl sitting on one side of the table across from heroine and Gae Doo. So...am probably not gonna get my wish.

Looooooooooooove Barassi. And I've got to get some Korean food soon. This drama just makes me want to eat and eat.

I love the brand of humour in Lets Eat. Like Dae Young offering Mom gum in return for the banchon, or politely handing her a garbage bag in ep 9. oh, and the ending was precious!
I do think Dae Young is going to be the first lead, especially with Mom talking such a liking to him.
The assailant looks an awful lot like Dae Young - I wonder at his motives though.
Now I'm hungry.

I kept thinking Dae Young was the assailant as well but would a k-drama deceive us like that? Would be soo good if I found a good unpredictable kdrama romance -- not like an underhanded trick or anything but a real unexpected love story.

I like Dae Young, don't get me wrong. He's adorable but Attorney Kim is just soooooooooo in love with her. Passionate brooding love versus the slow-growing kind.

Happy Weekend Everybody.

Watching Let's Eat and You From Another Star.

I think LE is perfect in every way.

Really happy with YFAS as I had no great expectations going into it-actually avoided it for a week-but once I started it I kept going back for me. (Sadly I can't say the same for Empress Ki or I Need Romance 3.)

Reading recaps here for Prime Minister and I and watching bits of it but it hasn't got me watching out for it like the other 2.

Damn you, Database Errorx2! My comment has been eaten and I'm really too sleepy to type it all again.....

Basically, the last week in k-ent for me can be summed up as a love letter to Jeon Ji-hyun, who is OWNING You From Another Star so hard, she should have an acting award from SBS on lock for the role of Chun Song-yi. She has great chemistry with Kim Soo-hyun, but the drama has left me feeling like the coldness of Min-joon doesn't quite mesh with his acting style. Though he's getting better.

I also watched The Berlin File last weekend, out of mad love for JJH and Ha Jung-woo (I will admit it, she was my first ever Korean bias, and My Sassy Girl is the reason I started seeking out Korean dramas and movies), and it was pretty great on the action/suspense front, even though the body count is so high. And also unexpectedly on the chemistry front between JJH/HJW, which I did not expect - she's normally so charismatic onscreen that I want to watch her way more than I want to watch her costars, but Ha Jung-woo has a strong enough presence to match her.

In other news...have not caught up with Miss Korea or Golden Rainbow yet, but I did approve of the reaction to the kiss scene in GR, it was funny and seriously cute. It almost makes it worth all the fast-forwarding I have to do.

I dont fast forward GR anymore i geuss it has gotten better, less sappy family crying for their tragic life.

Since i like the show for the OTP and when they have troubles that im interested in connected to the main story, villains i dont need to fast forward anymore.

The kiss scene was pretty epic, awesome. First it was really cute how she grabbed him, kissed him so shyly and so forward of her. Then his response was pretty passionate kissing. Talking about two lead actors carrying a series only with their chemistry together.

re: GR, I also speed right past any parts with the uncle of the orphans, or his family (most pointless side characters ever, talk about a waste of time), plus anything to do with the Tragic Love of Orphan Daddy and Baek-won's bio mom.

I like watching the orphan siblings interact, though, so I take my finger off the ffwd button for them as well as for the OTP. And I kind of like Polar Bear's daughter, Lee Hee-jin is really likeable and fun.

I am actually following iN2D for the first time with season 3 (I think?) I love Jung Joon young in this and WGM. Defconn is funny, too. How crazy was the old-fashioned barber scene? Yikes! I think Defconn looks so much better clean shaven. Junho kinda drives me crazy all the time. Anyway, it was fun to watch them earn food this week. And a Rain visit - he was so under appreciated by the guys, boo!

Hi, I am watching the 3rd season. I loved the guys from last year - still getting used to the new group. It's just not as funny or as entertaining now. Last year each man had such a unique personality that no matter who was on screen it was interesting. Now it is kind of bleah...but I keep watching, hoping the mojo will improve.

The recent show with Rain left me exhausted, the PD put them through sooo much! Too bad Rain wasn't on for the whole show because he sure is easy to look at.

The last game with the water was quite funny though...

Happy Friday!

Watching...

I Need Romance: which is great. These two are adorable, and I hope her assumption that he played her won't spoil that too much.

Age of Feeling: SO good. Despite moments of confusion that haven't been answered, it's really pushing all the right buttons for me right now, and I can't wait to see where it's headed.

Running Man: speaking of adorable, Ji Hyo and Jong Suk were just that! Too bad they were found out, but still, a very fun episode. I loved all the misunderstandings that happened because of the couple missions -- from Gary's "congratulations!" to the two staff members, to Jong Kook's "I just thought Jong Suk liked Ji Hyo..." Park Bo young was great, too.

Cool Kiz: I like this trend of returning to a previous sport for a special so they can also bring back a few familiar faces. It'll be interesting to see the format for Tae Kwon Do, if they're asking regular people to join their team instead of celebrities.

I decided to visit OT instead of doing work b/c there's just soo much to do & no one to do it except me. Self-employment has its perks but I'm totally in one of those lulls at the moment & hating it.

I'd much rather talk about dramas so here it goes:

YFAS--lots of great moments. I d.i.e.d. with Song-Yi's totally unfazed non-reaction to Min-Joon's possibly being a wanted criminal. The implications in it all were just too hilarious. The only thing I can complain about with the show is the serial killer/evil brother story line. It'd be much more palatable if the show did not drag it out the e.n.t.i.r.e. 20 episodes but that'd be too much to ask. So let me focus on a non-complaint by saying how sickening it is that Jeon Ji-Hyun is so great here. I think her performance coupled with the Kim Soo-Hyun and the overall quality of the show is actually bad for dramaland. I, for one, am finding it harder to watch just any old drama now (like I did in the olden days). If it's not good, I drop it and that has left me dropping a lot of dramas lately. The only other bright spot in my life these days is INR3.

INR3--I am not sure who's more loveable- Kim So-Yeon or Sung Joon. It has its flaws, most notably to me is that it requires a lot of suspension of belief to accept (even more so that in YFAS)--but it really gives me positive vibes. I totally look forward to the next episode and hope it continues to satisfy.

Now back to work for me . . . unless someone is available to solve my problems-- I just need a steady stream of clients hiring me to represent them in simple, cases that involve very little work on my part but have high ($) yields. Tell me how to guarantee that and I can hang around on DBs & watch kdramas for the rest of my life!!

I am one of the few watching this here (I guess) but I wait breathlessly for the Empress Ki episodes each week. None have been boring, although a few have made me want to stab my computer. All the female actresses are good, and Ha Jiwon continues to be badass.

I also like the weekend melo Firstborn which is retro and doesn't have too many over the top characters.

Finally, I am liking Golden Rainbow. It was a little slow, but now there is Jung Ilwoo who is young enough to be my son but very pretty. His acting is good enough to make up for having to watch Uee.

Everything I want to say has already been mentioned.
I will just add, that I wish Let's Eat was a 2 epi/week drama. I think once a week is not enough to move the plot along. The pacing is too slow, as if there were 2 epi/week. The story should be much further along. They're just now remembering that there is a murder plot.

Watching
-YFAS
-The PM & I
-The Woman Who Married Three times - I will say, the in-laws in this one deserve a firm slap across the face. The husband should just be dropped off at the Han River. He is so shameless, selfish, baby and a total jerk!
-Miss Korea
-Could we Love - Tae Uhm Force!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-ILR 3
-Wang's Family - I watch in spurts, because everyone there is a total idiot.
-A Word from Warm Heart- Can't wait for the bid siblings dinner reveal. Ottoke???

It's slow for some but very methodical. It explores the psyche of cheating withing a marriage. I'm actually enjoying it a lot. It portrays how cheating affects more than just 2 lives. It can make you hate a character one moment and totally fend for them the next. It's not a quick breezy watch, though. Some don't like it because it's not full of Idols and sweet sugary scenes.

It is good indeed. I'm enjoying it also.

Given the subject matter and how the story unfolds, I think it wouldn't work if idol actors had been given the roles.

The actors here are great at portraying people "not-in-their-twenties" who are wading through the sea of broken pieces and heavy emotions left after there's been cheating in a marriage.

Very interesting.

i love warm word. i really enjoy its treatment of the subject matter. one really feels for the heartwrenching decisions that the character comes to and the pain they feel.

love the young man most. he is aware of how his childhood background plays into the person he is and he, apart from the friend, is the wisest amongst them. and makes the most conscious decisions.

great show. for me, i dont get bored watching at all. to be bored would be to be bored with examining the human mind and heart!

Currently watching Empress Ki and it's decent. The earlier episodes before Ha Ji Won's character got into the palace are the best so far imo. Then the story lulled, now it's picking up again, but pretty predictable. This drama could have really been cut down to 30 episodes likely.

Finished watching The King 2 Hearts and that was enjoyable though rme at the villain.

Hope everyone is well and relaxing in their drama watching : D

Happy Friday, Beanies! I have been zipping through Two Weeks this week and thankfully am finding it very easy to watch since I am under the weather and like something I can marathon while curled up on the couch. It's interesting because it is less of a high-octane thriller and more of an introspective drama than I expected. The plot does kind of go in circles half the time, so there may be fewer surprises, but there are compelling characters.

Still interested in INR3. Is it only available on Viki? Do I have to sign up? How does all of that work?

Hi everyone...

So it's been a few weeks, I think, since my last post...that darn database error keeps occurring every time I'm trying to post on OT! Gave up after a few tries last week, then it was two days later, so I just put it off again until now.

I don't know what's gotten into me...for the past two weeks, I've watched all Big Three weekend dramas (A Little Love Never Hurts, Passionate Love and King's Family)! Maybe I've been jonesing for a little makjang crazy-ness, hahaha ;P

I haven't watched You From Another Star, Miss Korea or Golden Rainbow raw in two weeks. Haven't even read recaps of YFAS on here either...I think I'm in the minority here, but it's not really captivating me and I've been losing interest. MK and GR, on the other hand, I'm saving for a rainy day marathon, or when I feel like it.

I'm contemplating picking up Inspiring Generation and Emergency Couple...again, for a rainy day.

I Need Romance 3: Swoonnn...Sung Joon is back!!! I love the chemistry between Joo-yeon and Wan/Sweet Potato! I get why some on here think he's stalker-ish and having an unrequited love for her for 20 years, but I think it's cute. Maybe my being a fan of Sung Joon is clouding my judgment, lol...but seriously though, I don't think it's creepy at all. I'd love to have someone like him follow me around (he cleans! he shops! love that)! ;P The fallout is gonna be interesting...but she can't deny her feelings or chemistry with him! Honestly, I love the kid actor who played Sweet Potato...he's so freakin adorable!! So unlike a boiled sweet potato! ;P Loved him in Good Doctor and Golden Rainbow, his dimples are too cuteee. Se-ryung is definitely not your typical second-lead...she secretly respects Joo-yeon (and vice-versa), and despite stealing her man back then, they both are driven to beat each other, so that's an interesting dynamic.

A Little Love Never Hurts: Jae-min continues to be my fave character on here, his father and Mi-joo's mother second and third. Mi-joo's brother and sister-in-law are grating annoying gold-diggers, and their conniving ways to get at mom's money is just blah. I kinda don't get why Yu-jin and Yu-ra are so against their dad dating...yeah, they had issues because of their dad's infidelity and their mom's suffering, but damn, they just can't be open-minded! I'm hoping Hae-kyung will finally come around and confess that she likes Jae-min, instead of sucking it up for her brother's happiness...her and Jae-min are so adorable and fit each other well.

King's Family: So I picked it back up again two weeks ago, just to watch for kicks. Glad to see that Soobak's finally getting how stupid she was for throwing away her husband and making her family go broke and house-less after being conned...and it's interesting to see that Seo-dal has manned up (or, shall I say, become obedient housewife! haha). Sang-nam's mom was so two-faced and demanding money left and right, and he was stupid to believe she came back to be a mom. Glad to see that she got caught in the act...and now that the truth is out, him and Gwang-bak can finally be happy newlyweds. Might stick with it, just because it's gonna end soon and at least the over-the-top antics are now outweighing the makjang crazy-ness. For now.

Passionate Love: I watched the first two episodes, then dropped it because it was SO makjang-y (even more so than KF!). Tuned in and was surprised that Yoo-jung had married Soo-hyuk. The...

Oops, didn't realize it got cut off!

The fallout is impending for Soo-hyuk's paternity and his evil mom's evildoings are slowly coming to light (can't believe she pulled the plug on Yoo-jung's mom). Can't wait to see her get what's coming, finally...and for Yoo-jung to find out her father-in-law killed her dad and sister.

Queen's Class: MBC America is doing reruns on its HD channel, so I was able to watch the first half (saw the second half when it aired last summer). Liked it then, although I had qualms about watching it at first...because it was all kids and school. Now that I've seen it all, it was actually pretty decent...covered everything that involves school these days, and the kids became endearing. Ko Hyun-jung's portrayal of Ms. Ma is similar to Choi Ji-woo's portrayal of Bok-nyeo in Suspicious Housekeeper.

Hope yall have a great weekend!~

I sooo agree with you about the 2nd lead for INR3. It's weird, because she's actually my favorite character out of all of the women. Not because she stole her friend's 1st crush, of course...but she's just so confident, it's hard for me not to find that admirable.

Maybe it's because I skipped like nearly two months' worth...but I had thought he already knew!! So that's what she was trying to tell him but got put off when Uncle Don called him!

Maybe the writer is trying to drag this out to justify him getting with Mi-ho's mom (to take responsibility over her and Mi-ho) than reconciling with Soo-bak...although it seems as though it's going in the direction of Soo-bak (a la Seo-dal going back to Ho-bak) x/

I, too, think Sang-nam's mom is going to try her darnest to mess with his relationship with Seo-dal's mom...though she has absolutely no freakin right to do so!

Haven't watched today's episode yet...will watch both today's and tomorrow's on Monday. We shall see...

Just finished the first eps of 'Isharyo Bengoshi' from gooddrama.net. The title means lawyer for (divorce) settlement. I enjoyed it very much. It is not murky despite of dealing with divorces. It has a quirky touch, the lawyer is not good looking man who are surrounded with quirky female sidekicks. The real aspect of divorces in Japan is revealed in this drama. The point is that wives can only get much less compensation for divorces so the lawyer has to find a way to get much better settlements and he reveals certain methods to achieve the goals. I like the light touch on handling ' could be very heavy' issues.
--spoiler'ls alert_
once the female lead finds her husband's affair, she did not seem to be affected by it much. Her attitude puzzles me but I get a feeling that many Japanese couples have emotionally detached relationships with each other.

Just finished epi 9 let's eat. AWESOME. Still funny, still a thriller and still a good love triangle. Love it.

This week's YFAS finally connected a little bit more emotionally for me. Before, it was addictive and entertaining and mostly great because of JJH but very undemanding emotionally.

Miss korea, still an emotional experience watching but i ddint like the behind the scenes of the pageant. It didnt seem believable at all some of the scenarios. But the story of the main characters continue to engage deeply.

Still loving il woo's do young in golden rainbow. He is so steadfast and smart. No wavering at all in choosing between dad and kim won. Helps that dad has been an awful dad i guess :).

Warm word, can we love, iNR. All still sooo good and enjoyable.

Happy weekend all. :).

I thought it was really cool that one of his first mainstream roles was something pretty unique in kdramaland, but I also totally get that he doesn't wanna be typecast. Say what you like about Kim Eun-sook's dramas, and I'd agree with most of it, but I also respect the fact that she has diverse, interesting side characters, which most writers don't make an effort to include.
