Posters and trailer for Hot Blooded Youth

This turned out to be more of a comedy than I expected, not that I’m complaining of course. The trailer for Park Bo-young and Lee Jong-seok’s ’80s youth movie Hot Blooded Youth shows a light, quirky bent to the story of a gangster girl who laments that the ladies’ man on campus doesn’t see her as a woman, while he in turn runs from her, constantly terrified that she’ll beat him up because he doesn’t like her. Cute.

Lee Jong-seok plays the “legendary Casanova” who takes after his smooth-talking father (Kwon Hae-hyo, Goddess of Marriage) and can get any girl he wants, as we see at the start of the trailer. Park Bo-young is the loyal gangster who rules the school and gets greeted with bows at the waist like she’s a little mob boss in the making. She asks Lee Jong-seok why he doesn’t woo her, and he jumps back in fear, saying that she’s Kim Young-kwang’s girl, the bad boy gangster who loves her from afar.

The arrival of Seoul transfer student Lee Se-young shakes things up when she coolly rebuffs the hero for the first time in his life, making him crazy with determination to win her over. Meanwhile the fact that Park Bo-young likes him puts him on Kim Young-kwang’s bad side, and so she steps up to protect the pretty boy who can’t fight for himself. Ha, how else is the gangster girl going to win him over?

I’m especially looking forward to Park Bo-young’s badass transformation as a foul-mouthed, head-butting tough girl with swagger. The 1980s hair (so bad and yet so good), the thick country accents, the small-town high school angst and unrequited loves — it should make for a winning combination. Plus, I just love the reversal of the hero quaking in fear and flinching every time the heroine takes a step closer to him, like he’s afraid she’ll bruise his pretty face. What a hilarious departure from all the rebellious teenage gangsters Lee Jong-seok plays in dramaland.

Hot Blooded Youth hits theaters January 23.

rebellious teenage gangsters

Nope, gf, that's his bestie Kim Woo-bin who usually plays those.

But it is nice to see our new puppy playing a high school student who's chickenshit scared, unlike his characters in High Kick 3, School and IHYV.

I am also looking forward to this movie. Lee Jong-seok and Park Bo-young look like they are going to be hilarious in this. It's such a departure from LJS's tough guy roles in School and IHYV.

Side note: Park Bo-young's sidekick (in the video and 2nd photo) looks like Jun Soo-jin from School 2013 and Heirs.

oh the 1980ies. I wonder how they were different in Korea? was it anything like my 1980ies? probably not. although I dont think tacky fashion could be escaped anyuwhere... still the eighties were great. except for the Chornobyl ...

I've always thought Lee Se-young kinda look alike if not similar with Park Bo-young. Pleasant surprised that they actually cast them both for this movie. I'm totally on board for this crack.

Park Bo young going back to her saucy roots like in Speedy Scandal but with old school twist. Btw, her sidekick is gorgeous! And I think Kim Young Kwang is next to do big things (following model buddies Woobin and Jongsuk) after his military service ends!!

Aside: Seriously! What's up with the model-actors recently! They're all have growing acting chops and so much godly hotness. Sung Joon, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Soo Hyuk, Kim Young Kwang, and Hong Jong Hyun. And they're all best buddies. It's like the new generation of So Jisub, Hyun Bin, Song Seung Hun, Kang Dong Wan peeps... @.@

Am I the only one who's going to watch this for Kim Youngkwang? He was so sweet when he guested in the Happy Together variety show that I just love that this time he's going to turn into a wild, rowdy gangster bad boy.

Oh My God!! I've secretly replayed that episode more than twice to see his shy smiles!!!! He's like the birth child of Lee Seung Gi and Jung Gyu Woon (Doctor Champ, History of a Salary Man). You should watch him in Infinity Challenge the Milan model episode!!

ljs gave him and pby a really low score in terms on chemistry because he said they hadn't gotten close whilst filming, when really he should have realised that it's all about the acting. your closeness off camera, or lack thereof, doesn't really make a huge difference if you have the acting chops. they look really good together, and i can already tell that i'm gonna love her character.

and i was hoping someone would mention kim young kwang because that boy has had my attention ever since white christmas . and then i cried a bucket full after watching him in brown eyed souls new song "you", and replayed it more than i dare count.

here's the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YYSQdbjNXg
it's seriously touching, so i hope you guys watch it and get back to me. beautiful acting.

sad he's enlisted but i was really hoping he had some projects lined up for us fans, so yay!!!

can't wait for this movie. a sure hit. fighting!!!!

Park Bo Young a.k.a. national cute little sister who always plays sweet girl is now playing as legendary eonni jjang???
Oh, I should really watch this.
Kim Young Kwang's hair reminds me of Sakuragi Hanamichi from anime Slam Dunk, but when I remember again, both of the anime and this movie are set during the 80's. So, well...

PLUS...

LEE JONG SUK AS LEGENDARY CASSANOVA???

I REALLY SHOULD WATCH THIS.

This movie is simply hilarious and LJS owned the show! It's almost tiresome to watch Park Bo Young but LJS was like the gush of wind in hot summer. His comic expressions was spot on and the director has great comic timing. Go for a good laugh!
