Seo In-gook recruited to be a gangster

Here’s a possible new project for Seo In-gook (Master’s Sun, Answer Me 1997), who’s being courted to headline his second movie after debuting on the big screen with No Breathing. Not bad for a guy who only has a handful of credits to his name. This one is a much darker action thriller called Wild Dog about a boy who gets recruited into the mob. It sounds a lot like Yeo Jin-gu’s movie Hwa-yi on paper, though I’m sure it’ll find a different angle.

The new gangster film will be an action noir directed by new director Uhm Se-yoon, about a young man who lives with his grandmother and is completely shut out from the world for reasons unknown. He’s described as both innocent and closed off, which is interesting, and the story unfolds as he gets dragged into the gang world. Violence and drama ensue. It should be a nice meaty role for Seo In-gook, who wasn’t challenged much in Master’s Sun and could use a striking transformation as a dark and troubled character.

Park Yong-woo (My Love Madame Butterfly, Jejoongwon) has been cast as the mob boss who drags the boy into the underworld. He interestingly made a cameo appearance in Hwa-yi, only to do this movie afterwards. And Lee Soon-jae (Grandpas Over Flowers) will be shedding his neighborhood gramps image to play the rival gang’s boss. They’ve signed on, while Seo In-gook is “considering favorably” for now.

Wild Dog is still in pre-production and plans to start shooting in the spring for a release later this year.

He surely looks the part, I wonder how he would do acting-wise.

I've been rewatching Master's Sun and thought SIG has talent for comedy. Noir can be a good challenge for him to discover his own capacity.

I find him so likable, I hope he does well, if he accepts the offer, of course :)

Same here - he's an actor who can do really well if he's given room to shine, and I hope he gets better roles too. Master's Sun probably gave him the least to do, out of all four leads, but he did show potential there though of course Answer Me 1997 is still his best performance yet.

It was only a matter of time. I feel like the "gangster role" is like a right of passage, ahaha.

Seo In Guk as a gang member? I'm In! LOL. I like how all of the roles that he has taken on different roles so far, instead of playing the same characters. He does have a knack for more comedic roles so this should be more of a challenge for him. I heard No Breathing wasn't a stellar movie, but that he got good reviews for his acting. I want him to star in another drama soon, but congrats to him for being the lead in two movies so early in his acting career.

Yes, please! His role in Master's Sun was so minor and undeveloped, so I couldn't see his stellar acting again like when he was in Answer Me 1997. I don't like No Breathing plot, but it's true that his acting was good in it. Just like what kittycat said, I notice that Seo In-guk took different characters every time he pick a project. His action scene in Master's Sun was pretty good. I also hope he will star in another great drama, as a lead role with awesome character. But for now I will definitely watch this movie!

Haha, my friend said that he looked like a gangster the first time she saw his picture ages ago, so maybe he'll fit right in!

I agree with the comments - definitely feel he could stretch his acting skills more. I'm not really one for long fight scenes and violence, but if it also means he gets to flash some abs (why waste all that hard work from "Barely Breathing"?), I would not mind in the least!

Hope he accepts the role because i would really want to see him in a more dark role, evil a bad guy,i think he could pull it off quite well..saw Park Yong-woo in Hwayi as the corrupt cop and quite nice to see him back with a mob rol..i think he will get dragged into the mob world because f the grandma, maybe she is sick or die and the guy takes him in making him by his ways...hope after this he'll come back to dramaland with a leading role

I am so happy that he is doing more movie roles and building his acting skills before returning to dramaland. Sure, he is a good actor now but hopefully when he returns to the smallscreen, he will be a great actor and have a leading role!

Aww I love him!! I think he's one of the idols that's done such a well transition into acting - it's funny cause more people know him for his acting than his music!

I don't know if he can be considered as an idol, though... He started his career in entertainment industry as a singer by winning a singing competition, not through a training in an agency like regular idols.... and actually I don't know the criteria of idols, maybe he is. He is indeed a good actor and a good singer. I hope to see more of him on screen this year, through his acting and singing. :)

The plot sounds very interesting, and I think that he carries enough "innocence" about him to make this role believable. His acting so far has proven that he can handle a weighty emotional transformation from an innocent young man into a man that is faced with the choice of becoming violent/mean etc… Interesting story-line so far.
