Yeon Jung-hoon takes on omnibus drama A Time of Love

I could quibble that two East Asian entities do not equal a global drama, but that’s what Yeon Jung-hoon’s (Vampire Prosecutor, I Summon You Gold) next project is calling itself: He’ll be acting in a four-part omnibus drama titled A Time of Love (爱情来的时候), which is a collaboration between cable-satellite channel KBSN and Hong Kong broadcaster TVB.

Each episode of the mini-drama will feature its own theme and cast, and it doesn’t sound as though they will be linked narratively. They do, however, promise to all feature a romance the transcends national borders; the project films in Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea.

Yeon Jung-hoon’s segment will pair him with Hong Kong actress Linda Chung, him as a Korean private tutor while she plays a member of the Hong Kong upper crust. They’ll fall in love in a “sweet romance” that bridges the culture gap (and, I presume, also the socioeconomic one). Here’s the drama’s teaser:

Despite the co-partnership tag, it appears that TVB’s really the head honcho here, investing $10 million into the project and supplying much of the cast. Most of the actors are from Hong Kong or Taiwan—James Wen, Kate Tsui, Chris Wang, Kenneth Ma—so I expect that A Time of Love will have a bigger presence overseas than in Korea. (I know that Hallyu stars do sometimes act in China and Taiwan, but I’m always amazed at the logistics involved in communicating with producers and crew members, and dubbing everything over. So I’ll be curious to see how Yeon Jung-hoon fares abroad. Hopefully well, though I suppose he can always look to other roles like Vampire Prosecutor to bridge the culture gap—no words needed when you’re drinkin’ blood and kicking ass.)

A Time of Love will air on the KBS Drama channel and KBS W in February.

Omg I know!! They can't just end season 2 like that and not make a season 3. There's still so many unanswered questions!! Sigh.

I feel the same way,VP really need season 3,!
It's been 4 years already .if they won't make it from the start ,they could have make 20 or 16 episodes in season 2instead and finalize our remaining doubts but they gave us more confusion and leave us hangin about the finale and leave us hope haaayyyt...if only I know that they won't make season 3,i did not hesitate to watch it .

the last I heard was that he doesn't want to do a Season 3. I hope that's not true! Or I hope they can change his mind ...

I really hope for a season 3 also but I also read that he took I summon you gold instead of doing vp3 and on the ocn trailer for 2014 shows they have that show the vampire which is a vp spinoff, which also makes me feel like there probably won't be a vp3 but I hope I'm wrong

OCN is doing another show about a vampire? What's it called, The Vampire? Where can I see this trailer?

spinoff? Maigaddd~ I'll try not to be judgemental here because the new vampire may be as good as VP or may even better but HOW CAN I WATCH ANOTHER VAMPIRE DRAMA FROM OCN WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT VAMPIRE PROSECUTER?! (T^T) Its very frustrating if OCN stop VP just like that. The VP2 ending are meant to have another season.

haha okay on another note i really hope this project turns out well instead of crappy; I was a little disappointed by his past few dramas (and yes that includes Vampire Prosecutor 2 it wasn't much compared to its predecessor) so please please please let this be great!

another linda chung bias here..never expect to see linda on dramabeans..
anyway, i don't have any expectation on this at all. tvb's production is always pretty bad, but its a good way for YJH to get people outside Korea to know more about him.

I'm excited for this. I like Linda most of the time, but haven't seen her in anything recently (stopped watching TVB dramas a while back, and definitely not those HK movies that they put everyone in). I don't like Kate Tsui though.

Are they going to dub his voice? Or is it going to be like what Won Bin and a Japanese actress did a long long time ago? They learnt each other's language if not wrong.

That was a good one. The characters' struggle with communication was the same for the audience, so it worked out really well. I felt bad for fukuda there though. She kept running and running lol.

MTE. I fell in love with her in Heart of Greed even though I saw her pre-HoG dramas. She's not the best actress and she never really stood out in her old dramas, but I love her smile and her likable personality. Yesss, me too, I've spent half of my lifetime watching TVB dramas (not kidding - I was addicted) and it's weird how I just fell out of love from them. I had the biggest crush on Hawick Lau while watching A Kindred Spirit. God, ME TOO [2], I hate those movies. I know they are for the joy and festive mood but no, imo the 'I Love HK' series are horribly silly.

Yes, me too [3], I don't like Kate Tsui too.

Linda Chung seems like the SWEETEST person ever, I don't know how anyone can hate her. I agree that her acting is limited, though but it doesn't bother me.
On the hand, I am not a fan Kate Tsui either. Her acting just seems way too pretentious and trying-too-hard to me. However, I like her quite a bit in her recent turn as Sing Fa Lui in Bounty Lady.

I'm looking forward to this drama warily because i'm from hong kong and use to watch only hong kong dramas all the time but in recent years they've gotten a lot worse and repetitive so i completely stopped and watched korean dramas only instead. Many HK dramas are either historical, about lawyers, the police, or doctors. And thats it. Also, compared to korean dramas, the cinematography sucks. I'm being harsh here i know but you will know what i'm talking about if you compare any recent korean drama with a HK one. Furthermore, kdramas have OSTs especially made for the drama and many of them sound really good but HK dramas dont have that at all. They use only one song thats the title song that plays before the drama everytime and thats it. They also reuse all the same sound effects in every drama. i dont like dubbing when i watch any dramas or movies but i'll try it out with hopes that they learned some things from the koreans.

Sounds boring. Not interested, not even for Vampire Prosecutor. Speaking of, will there ever be a season 3?

Question: When Hallyu stars act overseas are they really dubbed over? Why is that?

Yeon Jung Hoon's English is excellent. I'm excited to watch his episode with Linda Chung, for I think they look cute together. Plus, there's finally a co-star that is taller than her.

I think this is the only episode I'll be checking out, it's the only one where I like both leads. Like many have said before me, Linda isn't the greatest actress, inconsistent even, but there's something charming about her.

It's Cantonese :). From the preview, I'm going to hazard a guess that he's not going to speak much of it though, most of what he'll say will either be in Korean or English.
