Daniel Choi joins the cast of new KBS drama Big Man

[The minion parade continues! Everyone, meet awcoconuts, here to help us keep abreast of drama news updates and the like. ‘Cause the pesky thing about news is, it just never ends. –javabeans]

Hello, I’m another new minion, and I’m looking forward to writing news updates and recaps for you all!

Onto the news: Daniel Choi is another Big Man. He joins Kang Ji-hwan in KBS’s new revenge drama, and will take on the role of chaebol heir and only son. It’s been roughly a year since his last television projects (School 2013, Anticipate Love), and in a step up from previous working-class roles (teacher, reporter, MD), Daniel continues down the Korean actor checklist by taking on the requisite chaebol role.

His character is an outwardly friendly and congenial man, but he proves to be a two-faced and cunning businessman who doesn’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to survive in business. As the only heir to the fictional Hyunsung Group (a mish-mash of Hyundai and Samsung?), he readily accepts his future as leader of Korea’s most powerful business conglomerate. However, his ascent to power is complicated by the revenge-seeking, orphan-turned-successful-business-leader played by Kang Ji-hwan.

Daniel Choi becomes entangled in a fierce love triangle for a woman (yet to be cast, who’s loved him for a long time) with his rival. It’ll be nice to see Daniel Choi explore an intense, multi-dimensional character, as up until now he has mostly played endearing and somewhat dorky leads or supporting males. (Yes, he was a bad guy in Ghost, but the dork roles have been much more plentiful.)

As previously noted, Big Man will air Mondays and Tuesdays after Full Sun beginning April 14.

Hello awcoconuts, and a warm welcome to you!

Like Uj, I really like DC as an actor. I have liked him in the roles I have seen him in, so far. I have a question, when has he been an MD? Was it in a drama, or in a movie?

he reminds me very much of this particular Estonian actor, who wears glasses just like DC´s character in School, and it is sort of... he is just talking and has this presence and charisma that he doesnt like, DO anything, and it still kind of you know, acupuncture? you dont even notice them but it works

Welcome! Thanks for sharing your time and talents with us.

I hope he gets to be a bad guy we can love. He really was the best part of Ghost in the few eps we had him.

For some reason, at first glance, I read the plot description as: "Daniel Choi becomes entangled in a fierce love triangle for a woman (yet to be cast, who’s loved him for a long time) with the devil."

On reflection, that would make for a pretty original drama!

I prefer KJH in romcoms. And I tolerate DC. But I'll give it a try.

I loved him in School 2013, it takes a lot of charisma to not be rendered completely redundant by The Greatest Bromance Ever, but he did a great job of playing the cynical-but-eventually-softening teacher. Glad to see him back again, and he's another one that I hope will move into lead roles full-time.

Welcome awcoconuts! Your name reminds me of Dramabeans regular/frequenter ilikemangos. :)

As an avid fan of Daniel Choi, I squealed with delight to learn that he was co-staring again with Jang Na-Ra in School 2013. I enjoyed them both in Babyfaced Beauty.

Without a doubt, I was entertained by and definitely enjoyed Kang Ji-Hwan's character in Incarnation of Money.

Hello awcoconuts!
Daniel Choi is cute and funny. He's so endearing in everything he did.
But the funnier part is Hyunsung (hyundai-samsung) lol

Welcome, awcoconuts. I have not seen Choi in a darker role so I cannot speak of his melodrama skills, but I hope they know what they are doing.

Kang Ji Hwan on the other hand is great with both romance and comedy, so I have full trust in him for such a role. I think the funny man image is some all might have seen, but he is great with melodrama too. A well-rounded actor.

I so cant wait for this one to start airing. Loved Kang Ji Hwan in Hong Gil Dong and Incarnation. Such a fantastic actor.
Daniel and Ji Hwan are both awesome but I am now curious who is going to play the lead actress.

Welcome Awcoconuts. :)
Would love to see him in drama again. That character described above remind me a bit of Ha Jung Woo in HotS...
Btw he wasn't bad guy in Ghost, I think.
