It’s a My Girl reunion in Hotel King’s first stills

The My Girl reunion is now a thing of reality! (And not just a figment of our overactive imaginations, or maybe a product of our feverish shipping dreams.)

Lee Dong-wook and Lee Dae-hae have reteamed after first meeting in the bubbly romance My Girl eight years ago, which catapulted them both to fame. This time around they take on a more serious project with MBC’s upcoming weekend drama Hotel King, which has released these stills from the show’s first shoots.

On paper, it sounds like the character types they’re playing aren’t too far from those they played back then — he’s a cool hotelier, she’s a cheerful hotel heiress (okay, she was a fraud heiress in My Girl, but still!) — but I’m pretty sure the two dramas will be worlds apart. The hero’s driven by revenge (he and his mother were abandoned cruelly) and positions himself as the enemy to the heroine’s father, who is the president of a posh hotel. There will probably be lots of angst and tears — just a hunch.

I am inexplicably interested in this match-up because My Girl remains one of my happy comfort watches, even though it’s not even one of my top 5 Hong Sisters dramas, let alone top 5 of all time. It just has that feel-good charm. Even so, I have to approach with wariness, considering that it’s a longish weekend drama (though it’s 32 episodes, which is less daunting than 50) and comes from the PD of Aurora Princess (yes, that Aurora Princess) and the writer of Feast of the Gods. So while they’ve got high ratings under their belts, it also comes with high levels of makjang. Proceed with caution?

Hotel King will replace Gold Rainbow and premieres on April 5.

I've never seen My Girl, so I'm coming into this drama with minimal expectations. I do like Lee Dong-wook, though, so I'll watch for him, mostly. As for Lee Da-hae, I've seen her in a lot, and she's a good actress, just not phenomenal. To me, at any rate. Although I do love her hair in the first pic of her. Such a pretty color on her.

Looking forward to this (minimally).

She looks completely different from her My Girl days, even if you take into account factors like weight loss. Her facial features have been tweaked a lot over the years.

Reread it, I thought so too but it's not the writer of Aroura Princess but the PD from that drama.

I was about to panic about the Aurora Princess thing but I scrolled back up and they said the PD is the one from Aurora Princess. The writer's the crazy one r- uhhh I mean we should be worried for, right?

And yes. hoddam Lee Dong Wook!

I don't like My girl (i don't even finish it) and the story of this drama is not appealing to me. But strangely, after watching this photos I want to watch this drama. Those two look good together and they have better hair now. I think Im in.

The drama sounds a lot like Queen of the Game starring Lee Bo young and Joo Jin mo, it was such an underrated drama too.

I'll see how this drama goes since I'm looking forward to this reunion.

I haven't seen MG yet, but all this talk is making me left out and curious. Which means I'd probably marathon it soon. The Hong Sisters have never really disappointed me even if I don't quite love all their shows. I haven't seen anything earlier than YB (which is their best show IMO) but I'm excited to see MG!

On the other hand, I dunno what LDH did to her face but I think she looks stunning. Love that dress on her, she looks 10 years younger! This drama is looking rom in the rom-com territory and I hope it has some light hearted moments. I do love melo too though, so I think I'll enjoy this.

It's sad about Lee Da Hae, she was so cute before all the plastic surgery. What is with these surgeons? "Just say 'no'!"

Ridiculous. It is her choice and she look more beautiful and younger now.

Her face is frozen and she hasn't been able to act properly for years now. The plastic surgery may have kept her pretty (I maintain she was far more beautiful back then) but it's hindering her work as an actress. Just watch Iris 2 and Miss Ripley, or even the interviews for Hotel King for proof.

LOL, I has watched all of her dramas and I can feel that she portrays her characters very well. That's a reason why she got award for her role in Miss Ripley. (And I don't see that she was far more beautiful back then. I think ur eyes are not good that much)

you're free to believe Lee Da Hae is within her rights to freeze her face, but you can do it without insulting other commenters.

I just watched the running man episode where LDH was a guest yesterday (E82) and in the words of Yoo Jae-suk, 헐~대박!'

I've always liked her even if her projects aren't always that good (also goes for LDW). Plus if I had to bet every time there's an article about her there'd be a comment about plastic surgery, I'd be rich by now. Get over it already. She's still pretty, not scary IMO.

I have zero objections to plastic surgery/Botox ordinarily, but I can see why hers is raising so many eyebrows - it's starting to look like she can't quite move her face anymore. Sure she'd had work done before MG too, but at least her face could still show a full range of expression instead of looking like it's halfway to being a mask.

(and the same thing has happened with the Hong Sisters' first heroine, too - Han Chae-young spent most of Pretty Man unable to move her mouth into an actual smile, all she could manage was a kind of smirk. I don't know why they have to do this to themselves when they're so young and gorgeous - it's unnecessary)

I haven't seen LDH in anything since Green Rose which was eons ago. So I can't comment on how her facial expressions are now that she had a huge makeover. I do think she looks fantastic and a lot younger so I'll give her that.

But I have to agree with you regarding Han Chae-young. I've never seen her in anything but PM and boy did she have very limited facial expressions to present. I heard such great things about her but I didn't see much. Whenever she did smile, it felt like an evil smirk even when she was with her daughter or ex-husband. Which was really bad. I'm seriously hoping LDH hasn't become like that because I thought she was pretty talented in Green Rose. I'd be so disappointed if she ends up like HCY due to surgery!

Maybe you haven't seen her acting lately. :) She's got one of the most expressive eyes, and best crying scenes.

Check out when she finds the ring inside the doll in Iris 2.

Or scenes of Miss Ripley.

Or in Chuno when she discovered the man she thought was dead, wasn't.

Best scenes. Gut wrenching.

Be kind, folks. Why all the hate? I could never understand the standards of beauty. People talk about "natural" beauty, and yet invest in make up products to change their looks, lighten their skin, etc. We all must be proud of what we have, and if we have issues with our image, I have no problem with you fixing it if it makes you feel better.

Learn tolerance. -_-

I'm kind of looking forward to this even though I know it'll be makjang - loved My Girl and they did have such great chemistry there. (it was actually sexy in a way that I haven't seen in a Hong Sisters drama since - not until SJS/GHJ last year, I hope they keep that vibe for this drama despite the possible crazy)

I loved Lee Dongwook to death since My Girl. I used to like Lee Dahae a lot too but not so much now, but I do like them together. This new drama will not be the same fun and comic ride like My Girl but I'll take LDW in any form whatsoever. On a side note though, now that these two are reuniting, can't we also have a Yoon Eunhye and Joo Jihoon reunion? gaaad. I'll cry if that day happens, or rather I'd been crying to see that day happen. Please dramagods.

Seems MBC think they got a winning formula with this reunion thing, while far from being a fact, it been put about the the two Jangs of successful story of a bright girl will be doing a drama together after 12 years, of course Bright Girl had a 40+ veiwer rating and made pretty much everyone concerned..well a lot more famous than they where before..lol

Hey javabeans you mentioned way back in your Greatest Love last ep review that your Hong sisters' dramas rankings were as follows:

1st: SGCH
2nd: Best love
3rd: MGIAG
4th: My girl
5th: you're beautiful
6th: HGD
7th: fantasy couple

But this was before Master's sun/Big (tho I know Big is prolly right at the bottom or sth) and now that you say My Girl is not even top 5 I wonder what your new ranking is? Haha I'm a big fan of these sisters too and I would love to hear what you think!
