Age of Feeling: Finale Open Thread

Um, we have some good news and some bad news. I’ll start with the bad news because we actually only have bad news. HeadsNo2 was unfortunately in an accident yesterday, and first of all she’s okay, but second of all she’s still banged up and in lots of pain so we’re sending her tons of love and well wishes!

Apparently the first thing she did after regaining consciousness was to beg her mother to call us because she was upset about not being able to finish Age of Feeling recaps for its finale this week. We ordered her back to bed and made her promise she wouldn’t try to sneak-recap behind the doctor’s back (which she was totally going to do and got her phone taken away for). While that means we won’t be able to provide recaps for the final episodes, we know you guys will totally understand, and we kept promising Heads that nobody would be mad at her for not recapping from a hospital bed while hopped up on painkillers.

(Also, I suppose this means our prayer circle failed. Either we didn’t pray hard enough, or we didn’t pray specific enough: Can you imagine Fate hearing requests for HeadsNo2 to be relieved of her tedious-drama recapping burden and saying, “Okay, I can work with that”? We may have to start making our requests more clear, with caveats like without inflicting bodily harm this time, Fate.)

So what we’ll do is open up this post to be a Finale Open Thread, where you guys can at least have a place to discuss the last two episodes with each other.

Heads hasn’t seen the last two episodes yet, but here’s her wish list of what she hopes will happen:

Aoki and Il-hwa survive and the Dobi Gang reunites with Jung-tae in Shanghai! And then they all live happily ever after! Was I right? Was I right?

…they don’t die do they.

Shhh… don’t tell her, but this is what really happens, courtesy of gummimochi:

EPISODE 23

Ok-ryun drinks Jung-tae’s poisoned drink. She dies. On her engagement day. (AGAIN?)

Jung-tae tries to exact revenge against Hwangbang, but is reminded of staying alive for the Bangsamtongians.

Jae-hwa returns!

Jung-tae decides to take revenge by psychologically torturing Leader Seol several times, and ends up stealing Leader Seol’s loot.

Aoki gets out of prison and Ilgookhwe has to complete the Mori Strategy or else they die. What else is new.

EPISODE 24

Leader Seol’s casinos and clubs are attacked and his opium trade is exposed to the public. Jung-tae delivers the final blow to kill Baek-san.

Leader Seol is arrested and denies all crimes and faults. Jung-tae punches him and Leader Seol is killed in the streets.

Jung-tae agrees to hand over the Mori Strategy in exchange for making Bangsamtong a safety zone when war breaks out.

Jung-tae finally wears a hat!

Jung-tae fights Aoki, who’s saved by Kaya. Jung-tae and Kaya verbally agree to stop their war.

Everyone separates and says goodbye. Kaya vows to make a new start for herself. Jung-tae is then reunited with his sister Chung-ah, and vows to live giving his all to protect his loved ones.

As the ending credits roll, Jung-tae reads the letter that Kaya wrote him: “Was I to you and you to me, a feeling?”

The end.

I'm not (yet) watching this drama but I was so shocked reading that line about Heads' accident. Like that split second between reading that and then 'but she's okay' almost gave me a coronary.

So sorry to hear but thank God she's alive. Recover well Heads~!

First of all, get well soon Heads. I was so looking forward to your views abou the last two episodes But health is more important. So get well soon.
There are some moments that caught my eye in the last two episodes.
Ep 23
1)Sweet moments between Jung Jaehwa and Dr- another second love line the I love in this drama. The way he held her hand to console her. Awww....
2)Okryeon's death- way too predictable
3)The new bodyguard of Gaya -He definitely caught my attention even with his 5 second screen time. I know no one might have noticed him.
5) Less Mo il hwa screen time in ep 23- What is wrong with the writers/director? He doesnt say a word in this episode. At the end of the drama I was like "what".
Ep 24
1) Mo il hwa and Jung Jaehwa fighting together.GREAT COMBO. Unresistable roughness and style combo.
2) Il hwa's side kick getting shot by the bullet and il hwa getting really mad about it.
3) So-so disappointed that Ilhwa is going and just giving a wave goodbye. I am sad, very very sad about nothing happening to my fav second love line.
4)Chungah getting 5 seconds of air time with no closeup. Whattttt?????
5)Gaya stoping Jungtae from almost killing Aoki. She likes Aoki, little atleast.
6)Aoki, kinda, saying goodbye to Gaya. Telling her to meet him first in another life. Really poor guy, I feel for him.
7) In the end, I think and hope because Gaya gets in the car with Aoki and he also smiles, Gaya going with Aoki. I so ship them. I have 3 second love lines in this drama that I ship.

'AGE OF FEELING RIPPED-OFF' . . . cripes, Jin Se-yeon needs to play an immortal in her next drama. Maybe the mother-goddess or something. Or the Angel of Death. No, because in a Kdrama, "With Strange Aeons, even Death may die."

Get well soon HeadsNo2!

It's funny but with all the WTF moments during the second half of this drama, I still really enjoyed it. And was satisfied the relieved that most of the main characters were alive and had good endings. I may be in the minority but Ok's death did not bother me as much. And it some ways it made sense.

Kudos to the actors for keeping this drama going! The writing had issues.

Cheers to the strong good looking men in this drama, in particular Aoiki, Mo, and JT. KHJ did a good job playing JT and I'm hopeful that he will continue to improve and get better.

Get well Heads! Fate reminding us who's the HBIC and to be careful of wishing AND what you wish for.

My Kaya and Mo ship was never to be...perhaps Kaya and Aoki will happen

Chung Ah literally appeared at the VERY END *smh*

I don't feel bad about OK dying again because girl...WHAT WERE YOU THINKING...DROP THE CUP!!!

I can't ship Kaya and Jung Tae because even though he magically became intelligent he spent too much time being dense for me to believe it

Please get well, Heads, and relax. I know relaxing is hard because I also tend to overwork myself, but please focus on your health :).

I see Age of Feeling as two separate shows glued together sloppily: we have the first eight episodes or so on the one hand and all the other episodes on the other.

I miss the powerful acting of the first part, the Dobi gang, Shinichi, and Dokko (before he became comedic relief). I also miss Soo-ok, who was given some convenient, off-screen death. I imagine the direction his character arc might have taken: I saw him as a playboy, with hidden depth and intelligence, who eventually takes up the revolutionary cause. I miss the fact that the first part gave depth to even the most minor of characters.

I lament what could have been done with Gaya's character. My one criticism of the first part regarding her character was that I didn't buy her suddenly turning against Jungtae and going to the "dark side."

One of the second half's saving graces was the character of Jaehwa. God do I love him! He was played by a more-than-capable actor who gave the role depth and humor. Second to Jaehwa, I have to give a shout out to Ilhwa. I know that his character had been sloppily written out of the second part of the show, but I'm sure that fan complaints had some role in bringing him back. Kudos to Song Jaerim for the way he played this mysterious, other-worldly character. But aside from some of his mannerisms, which carried over from the first part, do you think that his character felt like the same person? What are your thoughts?

I remember his earlier conversation with Gaya where the latter apologized on the behalf of her countrymen for the death of Ilhwa's mother, and how Shinichi feared for Gaya's safety. You could see Ilhwa's smiling, but it was the freakiest thing. As an aside, I remember that the his mother died at the hands of a Japanese soldier. In the second half, her death was more specifically linked (or made to be linked) to the opium plot. Anyway, Ilhwa was definitely a little more comical in the second half and he made the fan girls go crazy with his elegant Mo-gestures. But I still wish that he had some more back story, even if he was supposed to be ethereal and mysterious. Anyway, I'm glad that both he and Jaehwa did not die :).

As for the appearance of Chunah at the end.... It was just too last minute. How did she survive her jump off the cliff in the first place? What happened? And I wanted a more powerful moment (and hug) between her and her brother. I know that Jungtae's motivation for coming to Shanghai was due to Dokko luring him with news about his sister. I guess we could say that in becoming so consumed by the Bangsamtong cause, he couldn't spend too much time on his original task. With the way this show was going, I wouldn't have been surprised if Chungah would be magically found by Hwangbang and used as leverage against Jungtae...good thing that...

didn't happen!

And like others here, I thought that the death of Okryeon was unnecessary and comical (sorry but that's the way I feel). I was laughing at how ridiculous everything was. I won't say anymore on that.

Despite the acts committed by Aoki, he looked so pathetic and defeated after taking a beating by Jungtae's fists of fury. It was moving to see Gaya put her arms around him to protect him. Again, Kudos to the actor for playing Aoki so well.

I'm glad the show is over. The first part was amazing, deep, and emotional. The second part had its moments, but the performances from certain actors saved it from being a complete mess.

My thoughts are with Headsnotwo.

My own car lost breaks (while on a steep hill of course) and scared me half to death, but thankfully no one was hurt. It could have been a lot worse if I had been on the drive to Boston, so at least that is good.

I just want to curl up with a rom-com to make me feel like I am falling in love. Or maybe I should just try falling in love for real ... nah, I'm too fickle, want a new hero every 16 weeks. Off to Kdramaland where dreams do come true and kisses come with their own musical score.

Oh such bad news, glad you are ok. Get well soon HeadsNo2!!!

Mixed feelings about this , I find that Hyun Joong did excellent and has improved his performance a lot . It started fine, child actors were magnificent ( by the way mini Jung Tae was a copy of Hyun Joong (phisically) , I'm Hyun Joong's fan and many gestures of this guy leading me to think he studied Hyun Joong's expressions). First 10 chapters seemed great and I quite liked the story and not just because of Hyun Joong , the plot seemed interesting and different, from episode 11 with the writer change it felt like another story with the same characters, the way they threw or killed characters still bothers me.
As if characters were reset, all they change, Gaya was someone I was looking forward, she seemed so badass on that kimono's but she turned bored, Ok Ryun also suffered a personality change, the one who showed the most progress was Jung Tae but it was also sooo slow. I adore Mo Il hwa since the moment he appeared, glad he came back, Pong Cha, Jae Hwa, So So, Dobi Gang (where they gone?) were characters I liked. Regarding the progress of my leader is definitely his best drama, because there is a character to develop and does it well , there are scenes that are worthwhile and shows how much he improved, some chapters seemed bored, especially those who came after the writer change but I kept watching because of Kim Hyun Joong and then Song Jae Rim, to the end I engaged to the drama again (last 4), which I am very grateful.
Despite the mess I enjoyed watching and reading the recaps, see Hyun Joong is always a pleasure to me then add Song Jae Rim to the picture, how can I say no to that?
Still thinking this could have been awesome :(

Thanks Heads2, still hope you choose a good drama to recap next time, and take care :)
