Cast lined up for detective thriller Chronicle of Malice

Thankfully this is a movie, because I don’t know how many more cop dramas I can watch in one year, and with this cast I’d have to watch. Sohn Hyun-joo (Three Days) will be returning to the big screen to headline a detective thriller for his next project, and Daniel Choi (Big Man) has signed on to co-star. Both actors have confirmed, and the offer is out to rising young star Park Seo-joon (Witch’s Romance) to join them. If he takes the role, it’ll be his big screen debut.

The movie, called Chronicle of Malice, is a thriller about a detective squad chief who’s up for a career-making promotion, but suddenly gets caught up in a murder case that throws him into a tailspin. Sohn Hyun-joo stars as the lead detective, and Ma Dong-seok (Murderer) plays a detective on his squad who helps him on the case.

Daniel Choi plays an unexpected character, which sounds to me like a big flashing neon sign that he’s the bad guy, but who knows. For now his role is a mystery. It may have been a big twist the first few times Daniel Choi played the baddie, but half a dozen roles later, the twist seems the new norm. And Park Seo-joon is up for the role of the rookie detective who looks up to Sohn Hyun-joo. I’ve only ever seen him be a noona-killer, so it should be fun to see if he’s got a grittier character in him.

Directing is Baek Woon-hak of Tube (2003). Once it completes casting, Chronicle of Malice starts shooting next month.

Park Seo Joon!! Oppa!! ^^

Cannot get enough of him in Witch's Romance, I swear I replay scene after scene just to see all his adorable facial expressions. Downside though is that when he hurts, I hurt :(

Glad to see him get more work and to get a chance to learn from amazing senior actors as well :)

I don´t hurt with him. I just want him to punch Shi hoon in the guts. cmon. do it already. just fight.
ah as a cop he would have even less chances to just punch somebody.
although he doesn´t seem the type to do taht even in a drama or movie, more like the type who tries to talk things over with a raging maniac. offer him cookies and stuff.

Ohmaygad Daniel Choi and Park Seo Joon on my screen at the same freaking time??? MAKE IT HAPPEN STAT. I wish this movie's a romcom because then they can play adorable, adorable characters and then I'll have to peel myself off the floor. But hey, I'll take whatever I can get.

I haven't seen more than an episode of Witch's Romance yet (I need to - I love Uhm Jung-hwa in romcoms!) but Park Seo-joon is adorable and has great chemistry with his leading lady. Good actor, too. And Choi Daniel is so underrated sometimes, even if he ends up playing bad guys lol.

Sohn Hyun Joo and Daniel Choi have pretty much proven they can do the whole range of nice -> ambiguously nice -> sympathetic villain -> evil as hell villain so I'm good with them on that front. What I'm curious about is Puppy from WR. Hoping he gets a meaty role to prove his range too...

PS to tokkioncrack, there is no SJR reference here (aside from this note). Just thought I'd tell you before you start scrambling the words and taking the second letter of every sentence or something. ^___^

Park Seo-joon was also in I Summon You Gold, crazy drama I watched on and off, because of his story line.
