Kang Hye-jung joins cast of How to Steal a Dog

Yay, quirky actress Kang Hye-jung (Marriage Plot, Miss Ripley) is returning to film with the big screen adaptation of Barbara O’ Connor’s children’s novel How to Steal a Dog. In the book, a young girl has her world turned upside-down when her father abandons the family. Her mom begins to work two jobs but still isn’t able to make ends meet, so they are evicted from their apartment and forced to live out of their car.

The girl sees a lost dog poster and hatches an elaborate plan to steal a pup in order to collect the cash reward, believing that the money will solve all of her family’s problems. Child actress Lee Re (The Chaser) will play the youngster who struggles with her conscience, and the movie will highlight the growth she experiences as she chooses between right and wrong.

Kang Hye-jung will play the girl’s tired, overworked mother, and it will be great to see her back on the silver screen. She was in Hollywood film Wedding Palace, filmed in 2008 but released last September, and was part of the ensemble cast in last year’s fake documentary Behind the Camera, but this will be her first significant domestic film since Girlfriends in 2009.

Kim Hye-ja (Mother) has also signed on, possibly as the homeless but wise adult befriended by the youngster in the book, and Kim Sung-ho (Into the Mirror) will direct. Cameras must start rolling soon, as the tentative release date is sometime before the end of this year.

YES =) Finally she's back! I love her so much and she seems like a really cool person from what I've seen on Superman Returns!

Lee Re was great in 'Hope' and I loved Kim Hye Ja in 'Mother'.

BRING IT ON =)

I was about to say that! and in the last episode that i saw her in Superman Returns, she was lamenting that her daughter is more popular than her now. She keeps on asking Tablo is she should start working again =).

love, love, love their family =) I just don't know why suddenly KBS World is showing the replay of the very first episodes, when Tablo and family is not yet there. =(

"I just don’t know why suddenly KBS World is showing the replay of the very first episodes, when Tablo and family is not yet there."

They canceled the broadcast in Korea during the ferry tragedy, so KBS World follows the schedule of KBS. Instead, they are uploading the pilot, international fans didn't got the chance to watch before.

Excited for her! She is a good actress but I don't understand why she isn't get big roles. Is it because she has a child now? Other married actresses are doing very well... She was in an A-list category once but now she does smaller roles and I don't like it... I love her in The Superman returns and though it is Tablo and Haru's show, I would love to see her interactions with the family more (Lee Whi-jae's wife is featured equally along with her husband maybe because the kids are babies).

I remember Tablo saying that she keeps on saying no to projects offered to her. On Superman Returns.

Yep. Saw that episode today. Honestly, I'm not that surprised. Both Tablo and Hye-Jung are talented in their respective field...But you know about the entertainment world, fans prefer cuter boys w/ zero talents and viewers prefer to watch pretty actresses w/ zero talents. Quite sad but true. (According to wiki: "Gong belonged to a third, very minor group of eccentrics that also include Kang Hye-jung and Bae Doona". Apparently they're not the typical beauty but can still act. What a lame title to classified these awesome and beautiful actresses!)
I wish Tablo and Hye Jung the best and I hope they won't forget that there are fans like me who still support them and appreciate their works. :)

YES. They prefer the cuter and younger ones. Ugh. I second the motion, they are both really really talented. Genius and quirky family.

I'm with you, you know, being a fan girl. Hihi

Yes, I did see that part, in Jeju-do right, in the restaurant? She looked embarrassed by that comment. She was shushing him. Guess she wanted to surprise us :) They both are extremely talented and yes, same here, I would love to see more of them. She is still cute and quirky and hope she gets good lead roles apart from Ajjumma and Mother roles...

Its weird thought that koreans will consider her not typically beautiful. I really find her pretty. I think she is a conventional beauty in terms of the aesthetics. but i guess it has to do with the packaging. She has been known to be quirky instead of being heralded as goddess with goddess like attitude and aura.

Anyways, she is beautiful. At first glance, you will see that she is beautiful in comparison to say Bae Doona or Kim Min Hee or (am i correct? the model Jo In Sung reportedly is dating now) or say the singer Hyorin... they i would say are not your typically beautiful koreans but they grow into you.

To be honest, I think she started losing parts the moment she changed her face. She had something very special and got great parts with international recognition (Oldboy, Welcome to Dongmakgol), but after the surgery, her face became average. She and her career remind me of Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing. After her nose job she was basically jobless.

Old Boy was huge and it catapulted her to stardom but even after she had her jaw reconstruction surgery, she had lead and important roles in all her earlier drama....
Agreed that she looked different after her surgery but at least it is not plastic surgery. I like her better now. Earlier she had kind of bucktooth but it was cute. Now she looks chic.
My senior from School also did the same surgery and it is for corrective measures. More medical than cosmetic. Something to do with her jaw locking or something.

Love Kang Hye-Jung. She' was one of the main reason why I watched "Superman Returns" (and I always wish to see her at least for a moment in each episode b/c she is just too awesome).

Am finally happy that she accepts a role although this doesn't seem like she'll have alot of screen time since she's not the central character. I really want to see her in a drama although I know it'll be harder for her since she has a daughter to take care of (b/c drama schedule usually means barely any sleep at all).
