Doctor Stranger: Episode 15

In the midst of the truth-telling that happens in this episode, get ready for an hour full of medical incompetency, questionable ethical judgment, and callous administrators, all thanks to the one competition that keeps being revived by a narrative defibrillator. You’ve got families yelling at doctors, doctors yelling at other doctors, and even doctors yelling at patients. And you wonder why Myungwoo Hospital’s been in trouble a number of times already.

Still, while all that’s going on, Soo-hyun finds herself caught at the crossroads of her own heart. Her growing feelings eventually take precedence over doing her job, but that’s where a bit of grounded reality comes in. Stranger ticked upward in ratings and remained in first place on Monday with 11.9% while Triangle clocked 7.5% and Trot Lovers brought up the rear with 5.8%

EPISODE 15 RECAP

As Hoon begins the risky SAVER procedure, the president watches the competition from the Blue House, where he’s told that the winner will probably be the doc who succeeds in getting the heart to beat again. Oh good, I’m so glad we’ve sort-of-not-really defined the winner criterion in this match.

Chi-gyu invites Chang-yi to watch Hoon work, but his attempt to get frisky gets literally crushed under her heel.

Back in the operating theater, Nurse Min hesitates before handing over the saw-drill, remembering that Doctor Yang had handled it earlier. Her attempt to try to warn Hoon gets dismissed, and it’s frankly perturbing to watch Hoon use the tool until the inevitable happens and the saw blade shoots out and cuts his hand. Acck!

Despite his injury, Hoon gets a clean glove (and blade) to finish the job, and then asks Doctor Yang to switch places. But Nurse Min orders Yang out of the operating room, addressing him as their baby’s father when he doesn’t move right away. Go Nurse Min!

Down one surgeon, Hoon calls Jae-joon’s team to request a substitute. Having been kept updated on Hoon’s surgery, Jae-joon complies… by handing over Chi-gyu, the first-year surgical resident. That decision is surprising (and likely incompetent), since everyone knows a rookie lacks the surgical expertise to be first mate, but Jae-joon ignores Soo-hyun’s protests.

Once the donor heart arrives, Soo-hyun volunteers herself as a better set of helping hands to Hoon, though Jae-joon questions her motives. Instead of yunno, worrying about the open-heart surgery, he tells her not to go, tapping into his metaphor vocabulary bank about her feelings for Hoon.

And Soo-hyun takes a long moment before giving into what Jae-joon calls “temporary curiosity,” and tells Chi-gyu to remain with Jae-joon’s team while she marches into Hoon’s surgery.

She’s all business from this point forward, but is legitimately surprised when Hoon tells her to switch places. It turns out Hoon intends to proceed to operate with his non-dominant (and only working) hand, which amps up the difficulty level exponentially. Or so we’re led to believe, anyway.

But Hoon manages to operate just fine, while in the other room, Jae-joon successfully completes the heart transplant operation. Once the VAD is installed, all Hoon has to do now is to revive the patient’s heartbeat, which turns out to be harder than they expected. Everyone watches with bated breath as Hoon tries the defibrillator again and again…

… And then, finally, a heartbeat. Oh phew. News of both teams’ successful surgeries is a surprisingly quiet affair, and I’m sure it goes without saying that Chairman Oh looks disappointed by Hoon’s achievement. Prime Minister Jang seems pleased, but who knows why he’s ever happy anymore.

As Jae-joon leaves, he furrows his eyebrows at seeing Soo-hyun in the other operating room. Hoon finally breathes a relieved sigh when they’re done, happy as a clam again. He praises everyone on his team with a hug, though Soo-hyun latches onto him instantly, which Seung-hee sees.

Hoon relays the good news to the family and adds that the patient will remain in an induced coma for a few days. He assures them that it’s for recovery purposes for the weakened heart and not because something went wrong, but I’m pretty sure the baddies are going to try to turn his success into a surgical error.

He brushes past Soo-hyun’s attempts to pull him aside for a chat, praising her on a good job today instead.

Nurse Min attends to her unfinished business with Doctor Yang, who readily admits to tampering with the medical equipment earlier. His reasoning for doing so was because that patient was initially turned away because he couldn’t afford surgery, but there won’t always be a Park Hoon to step in for patients who can’t afford treatment, like themselves

But Nurse Min can’t believe that Doctor Yang would forsake his medical integrity for nobly idiotic intentions: “What our family needs isn’t money, but an honorable husband and father!”

Putting aside her frustrations, she urges her husband to apologize to Hoon. However Doctor Yang refuses on the grounds that he hates Hoon ’cause he’s such a show-off.

Nurse Min takes off after him when he stalks off, only to see Hoon waiting ’round the corner. He’s overheard their conversation, but he’s a good sport about it, and Nurse Min gives him a playful scolding about eavesdropping like any mother would. Cute.

Seung-hee keeps watch over the patient’s condition in the ICU, telling the anxious nurse to remain calm because the family’s watching. And as expected, Chairman Oh is displeased to hear that Hoon’s patient is generally doing fine, saying that they’ll find a way to undermine him.

So douchey Sang-jin is sent in to do what he does best: discrediting Hoon with half-truths like how a different procedure than what the family was told would be done in Hoon’s attempt to redeem himself for “killing” a patient once, and shocks her even further with the truth that Hoon was medically trained in Pyongyang.

Chairman Oh informs a sheepishly happy Doctor Moon that the competition isn’t over (ugh). Although he acknowledges that Hoon performed the more difficult operation, the winner will be determined when the patients wake up.

Hoon assures Doctor Moon that everything will be fine, but they’re interrupted by the patient’s wife’s agitated screams outside. She tears into Hoon and questions his medical judgment, citing that her husband is still unconscious, all because of that risky SAVER procedure she wasn’t informed of, let alone had given her permission to do.

Convinced that something went wrong, she demands that Hoon wake her husband immediately to prove that the surgery was successful. Lady, your husband just had his chest torn open a few hours ago, but whatever.

But while Hoon stands his ground against the wife’s hysterical cries, it’s Seung-hee who gives in and wonders if they should momentarily wake the patient up. And… you were supposed to be a better anesthesiologist than Min-se.

But Hoon says they have to do what’s best for the patient and that means waiting until their patient improves. He isn’t worried about the repercussions because their patient will wake up just fine and they’ll win this competition, so Seung-hee mustn’t wake their patient up until he makes the call.

Jae-joon stops Soo-hyun on her way out to ask if she has something to say to him. He isn’t concerned with getting an apology for leaving his surgical team for Hoon’s earlier—rather, he remarks that she and Hoon aren’t suited for one another.

Offended, she asks why, and he tells Soo-hyun that she’ll be the one who ends up hurt because Hoon loves someone else. And maybe for the first time ever, Jae-joon’s metaphors prove useful, stomping out Soo-hyun’s sliver of hope that Jae-hee may never be found: “Jae-hee might not physically be in front of him, but she’s alive in Hoon’s heart!”

Soo-hyun knows this, but she can’t help her feelings: “I know Hoon loves her, but I like him, so what am I to do?” She tried to forget about Hoon, trying to fool herself into thinking that her affections for him was a crush, but that didn’t work. “The more I try to forget about him, the more I think about him… and the tears keep coming.”

Crying now, Soo-hyun sincerely tells Jae-joon that she doesn’t want to hurt him anymore. She takes a step, but Jae-joon grabs her arm and softly begs, “Don’t go.” She asks that he let her go because she’ll get over her feelings soon. And with great reluctance, Jae-joon does.

After Chi-gyu’s explanation on what a bispectral index monitor does (in brief, it measures levels of consciousness via brain waves activity), Jae-joon’s patient stirs awake.

Unfortunately witnessing that event only makes Hoon’s patient’s wife even more impatient to see her husband awake. She doesn’t like the whole “We deal with patients on a case-by-case scenario” explanation and thinks Hoon is deliberately keeping her husband comatose to avoid a medical malpractice suit.

She wants a definite answer, which is something no doctor (the actual ones, anyway) can reasonably offer. Hoon can only ask for her patience while she rips into him in front of his colleagues.

So Hoon presents his case from start to finish to the entire cardiothoracic department and hospital administration. He answers the obvious questions from Jae-joon’s team (who are prompted by Jae-joon it seems) easily—just because the SAVER procedure has a low success rate doesn’t mean it isn’t done anymore.

When asked how Hoon can be so certain, he answers, “Because I’ve done it numerous times before.” As to where, Hoon’s silence says it all—in North Korea.

Then Jae-joon finally speaks up and asks if all those patients survived. Hoon honestly answers no, which Jae-joon uses to argue that there’s a possibility this patient could die, too. And to that, Hoon asks him the same question—did all of his patients survive?

At everyone’s silence, Hoon shares a saying that a cardiothoracic surgeon’s skills are measured by how many patients have died on their operating tables. So it’s their jobs to constantly reflect and improve so that their deaths weren’t in vain: “Because we can’t let them die next time. Because we must save the patient this time. Because that’s the only way to receive forgiveness from that patient I killed.”

“Let’s succeed in this patient’s surgery and the patients I killed will certainly forgive me,” Hoon says, then adds that he could never seek forgiveness from his patients if he didn’t take the risk to try.

Jae-joon acknowledges that those are touching words, but points out the reality that Hoon’s patients must wake to ask for forgiveness. At Hoon’s decision to keep the patient in an induced coma, Jae-joon asks, “Are you not waking him because you won’t or you can’t?”

Hoon is offended by Jae-joon’s insinuation that he’s trying to cover something up, but he bites his tongue and asserts that he’ll wake his patient in two days’ time. Jae-joon counters: “You’ll have to, or being eliminated as the prime minister’s surgical team won’t be the issue, but you’ll become a murderer.”

They move on to how Hoon performed the SAVER procedure without the family’s permission, of which Hoon fully acknowledges that he was in the wrong for that decision. Hoon doesn’t elaborate on his thought processes, but merely answers that it was an executive decision made in an emergency situation.

And Jae-joon uses that answer to ask about the patient’s pre-existing bleeding problem. He uses Yang’s statement that Hoon was informed about it prior to the first incision to cement his argument, and then he and Hoon go back and forth on the matter until Jae-joon slams his hand down on the table.

Jae-joon tells Hoon to stop with the excuses, but Hoon sticks to his answer that he was trying to save the patient. Jae-joon scoffs at that noble statement, because everyone in this room holds that idea: “Stop pretending that you’re the only doctor who acts on behalf of his patient’s interests.”

Apologizing to the patient’s family is out of the question given the circumstances, and Jae-joon orders Hoon to wake the patient immediately and prove to the family that their loved one is fine. Argh, not you too, Jae-joon! Will no one listen to the least doctor-y one in the room, aka Doctor Moon, who said the only doctor-y thing so far?!

Afterward, Soo-hyun berates a group of docs criticizing Hoon, and then mulls over Jae-joon’s harsh words about Hoon’s patient. Then she rises, having made a decision. Oh no, don’t you dare do what I think you’re going to do!

Meanwhile, Hoon pleads with Jae-joon for more time, pointing out that the only criterion was that their patient had to wake—there was no mention of when. But Jae-joon dully replies that that’s it’s not his decision to make… even though he ordered Hoon to wake the patient.

They both know that Hoon isn’t trying to cover up a surgical blunder, but Jae-joon remains infuriatingly frustrating. Exasperated, Hoon says he even entertained the thought that they could be friends once this competition was over, but Jae-joon disagrees.

Suddenly a code blue is called, and Hoon rushes over to the ICU to see Soo-hyun trying to revive the patient’s heart. Damn it Soo-hyun, did you try to wake the patient on your own?

Even though she gets the heartbeat, her actions only add fuel to the fire as the patient’s wife uses the recent cardiac arrest as more kindling for her threats.

Hoon is NOT pleased, and he pulls Soo-hyun outside to berate her for nearly killing the patient. He doesn’t buy her words that she did it because she trusted him, since she would have waited if she did.

He demands to know why she made such an incompetent decision. “Or else you’d be kicked out of the hospital!” Soo-hyun cries defensively.

But that isn’t a good enough answer for Hoon, since he couldn’t care less about being employed here or not. So who is she to interfere? Near tears, Soo-hyun answers haltingly, “Because I… I like you. I tried to stop you getting kicked out because I like you. Happy?”

Hoon doesn’t seem surprised to hear it, and when he doesn’t respond right away, she asks if it’s because of Jae-hee. But Hoon has a different answer for her: “Your father, Chairman Oh. He conspired with Prime Minister Jang and sent my father to the North.”

Soo-hyun can hardly believe what she’s hearing as Hoon elaborates that his father was sent away to prevent a medical malpractice suit made against Myungwoo years ago. Still reeling at this information, she heads straight to her father to confront him about it.

“Is it true?” she asks desperately. “Did you send Hoon’s father to North Korea?” Chairman Oh confirms it and she falls to her knees, horrified at the extent to which her father would go to protect Myungwoo.

Sobbing, Soo-hyun asks how she’ll be able to face Hoon now, to which she’s told that she just won’t. “How can I do that?” she cries, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I don’t think I can endure it if I don’t.”

Prime Minister Jang swings by the hospital, concerned that a winner hasn’t been declared yet. He becomes the third person this episode to suggest that they should wake up Hoon’s patient and give Hoon the loss if it doesn’t work out. Chairman Oh agrees. Both of you are wretched and horrible people.

Hoon still thinks that they need more time to wait, but then Seung-hee suddenly says that she thinks it’ll be okay because she’s logged the patient’s vitals which remained stable overnight. Please don’t tell me that this is going to change Hoon’s mind.

It changes Hoon’s mind. Or at least it changes Doctor Moon’s, and Seung-hee assures Hoon that her decision is sound. He asks if it’s because of the competition, and she answers it’s because she trusts him. Wait a minute—didn’t Soo-hyun use that same argument?

So everyone stands around the patient’s bed as Seung-hee turns off the machine and bites her lip. They wait for what seems like forever and a day, and Chairman Oh smirks that he thinks there’s a clear winner here.

Getting more desperate with each passing moment, Seung-hee yells at the patient to wake up. At that moment, the man’s eyes open ever so slightly and Hoon leans in to ask if he’s conscious. His patient nods.

The patient’s wife leans in, hopeful… and her husband recognizes her. She cries, relief washing over her. Hoon and Seung-hee exchange smiles, and Chairman Oh grimaces.

Neither Prime Minister Jang nor Chairman Oh are ready to call this competition a draw (nooooo), opting for a tie-breaker instead. After Hoon and Jae-joon are filled in, Hoon wonders if his rival suffers from multiple personalities, given his sudden 180 pre- and post-surgery.

Jae-joon finds Soo-hyun moping in her apartment after hearing that she’s called in sick today. She refuses to go to the hospital and asks to be left alone. He asks if Hoon gave her a hard time about waking the patient last night and she shakes her head.

He asks what this is about then, and Soo-hyun says he once likened her feelings for Hoon like a new bag. “But what’s going on with me?” she asks out loud. And now the tears she’s been holding back finally break through, as she cries over her broken heart.

Jae-joon looks on, helpless, then his voice turns sincere as he genuinely asks what’s wrong. He’s taken aback to hear that Soo-hyun confessed to Hoon about her feelings for him, and it takes all of his willpower to hold back his tears and step away at the sight of hers.

But then he turns back, sits down next to her, and draws her close to him. Letting himself be a literal shoulder to cry on, he encourages her to let the tears come.

Jae-joon returns to stare at his Metaphor Castle dejectedly and tells Chi-gyu that the princess loves another knight. But instead of being angry to see that princess cry over her broken heart, it pains him.

“That’s… real love,” Chi-gyu notes, adding insightfully that the knight can’t take over the castle now. The corner of Jae-joon’s mouth twitches.

Seung-hee offers to hear her roomie’s woes, though she retracts her hand when she hears about Soo-hyun’s confession. All Seung-hee can muster is an apology and a comforting hug, and Soo-hyun says it’s okay.

Both Hoon’s disclosure about her father’s actions and her father’s intentions to protect Myungwoo still weighing on her mind, Soo-hyun musters up the courage to go to Hoon’s clinic.

Seung-hee goes to see Hoon, who says he didn’t intend to hurt Soo-hyun but ended up blabbing about Chairman Oh anyway. Seung-hee gives him a silent hug. He asks about Mom, agreeing to wait for one month. She gives him a reassuring nod.

She finds it empty, with the image of ragged Jae-hee still on his laptop. She clicks the screensaver away to see a happy picture of Hoon and Seung-hee together on the screen, along with a whole collection of photos taken from that happy date we saw in Episode 10.

Shell-shocked, Soo-hyun scrambles around Hoon’s desk and discovers Seung-hee’s CD medical results (the ones taken at Myungwoo) in the drawer.

Recalling at how Hoon had once mentioned that Jae-hee required a kidney transplant about two years ago (am I going crazy or have we never seen this part of Hoon and Soo-hyun conversation before?) Soo-hyun inserts the CD and checks the scans.

She reels in shock at the image, struggling to catch her breath. And at that moment, the door opens, and Hoon and Seung-hee enter the clinic, hand-in hand.

COMMENTS

It’s times like these when I really wish I had the expertise in reading medical scans because on the one hand, I could assume that Soo-hyun has taken Hoon’s information to conclude that Seung-hee = Jae-hee, using the logic (remember that?) that those results were from Myung-woo and we were told that they were two kidneys. But on the other hand, if this show has taught me anything, it’s that I cannot believe what I see but believe what I’m explicitly told. Which is why I’m here waiting for Soo-hyun to just say it, anything, out loud. Guess that’s why it’s a cliffhanger.

But what drives me even more batty is that I honestly cannot remember that flashback moment from this final scene when Hoon told Soo-hyun about Jae-hee’s kidney transplant. Somehow it would make sense, since such key information would need to be previously known to Soo-hyun for her to be so shocked, so if any of you remember, please, please jog my memory. I even tried scanning previous episodes to see if I was just going crazy and missed it, but I honestly don’t know anymore, and I’m content to leave my confusion at the door until someone in this show just says it. Clearly.

What I can speak to for now is Soo-hyun’s feelings for Hoon, which took its own rollercoaster ride in this hour. Ever since Hoon has been aware of them, he’s kept a distance to Soo-hyun and her feelings, sometimes to a harsh degree. Still, in those times, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt since he was drawing boundaries and everyone knew that his heart belonged to Jae-hee. But what had me raise an eyebrow was when both Seung-hee and Soo-hyun had the same (stupid) idea, Hoon was persuaded by Seung-hee but not Soo-hyun even after they literally spoke the same words about trusting Hoon. Granted, the execution between the two women were different, but with the way the narrative has played out, it does seem like the lollipop Seung-hee offers is the one that Hoon generally accepts.

So I want to empathize with Soo-hyun’s lovesickness, with her inner turmoil of trying to figure out what her feelings mean, leading up to her verbal confession of her heart to herself and to Hoon, and then finally to get the double-whammy that her father was a key figure in Hoon’s past and that Hoon does, in fact, currently love someone else. Even though giving her that empathy requires seriously questioning her medical judgment and doctoring behavior (because c’mon Soo-hyun, how does nearly killing a patient by waking them up early show Hoon that you trust him? Also, just because your crush isn’t at the workplace doesn’t mean that you can’t ever see him), I still want to cry with her because we’ve all suffered a broken heart before. Maybe our fathers aren’t always directly involved with sending our crushes’ dads to another county, but it’s understandable that the realization could leave any of us emotionally crushed.

Stranger yet, it’s Jae-joon’s icy-hot behavior that I just don’t seem to get, even after Hoon hung a lantern on it this episode. It seems best to take his constantly changing behavior on a week-by-week basis because it seems like that’s how the show wants to handle his character as well. Once Jae-joon Bot was back last week, it felt like we were in yet another round of jealousy and the Tin Man yet again realized that what he feels for Soo-hyun might actually be love. Which would be going against his Metaphor Castle and revenge plans, apparently.

And yet again, the standout point in this hour remains is the persistent suggestion/demand/omg-why-can’t-you-do-it-already idea to wake the patient up early and thus bringing down the medical competency of practically this entire hospital with it. We’ve seen how callousness and persuasion leads to some honestly stupid decisions and actions for the sake of dramatic conflict so many times in this show that it makes you wonder why anyone in their right mind would want to be treated at Myungwoo Hospital. Not everyone can be a sometimes-genius-doctor like Hoon but apparently all it takes to be one in this dramaverse is to wear (or steal) a white coat.

"....one competition that keeps being revived by a narrative defibrillator"

Simply the most beautifully crafted phrase I've read in a long while. You, gummimochi, are simply brilliant!

Thank you for mirth and the poetic wordsmithing!

For the first time, Hoon actually acted with reason, methinks. He's passionate but sometimes he just tends to overreach and overreact.

But today he was calm and collected. Business as usual Hoon.

When he chose to wake up the patient after Jaehee handed him a note of his vitals, there was a right balance of reasonable risk and just enough dramatic luck that I actually liked, even though I would have still preferred that everybody JUST CALM THE HELL DOWN and WAIT.

Hoon is maturing, especially regarding his mother's situation. Reasonable Hoon over the mad and loose canon Hoon any time.

Seung Hee wasn't all 'I trust in you super doc Park, watch me prove it!' like Soo Hyun. They'd waited, she'd been monitoring the patient and in a meeting to discuss it she offered her opinion that it was safe to wake the patient and Hoon agreed. Almost like real doctors.

And Soohyun continues to tumble down that second lead hell pit.

Hopefully the old smart and sassy Soohyun can be resurrected still. I just want her to confront her father already for all his bullshit. I honestly thought that she was being slightly hypocritical when for the first time, she confronted her father just because it is something that pertains Hoon and him ruining her chance with him.

Once upon a time she and her brother were competing for Myeungwoo's management rights, clearly, and evidently with how her despotic father runs the hospital, she has an idea on how unethical his methods are. But never have she confronted him about that. But since Hoon rejected her, she suddenly got hit by the ethical bolt of lightning?

This is probably the lowest point for her character, the wager is out though on which direction she would go next episode. Will she finally wake up or just regress to the usual second lead adversary?

I really, really like Soo Hyun. She feels everything with her whole being, she knows how to cry, how to be mad, how to laugh and how to care for those around her. I think she's basically the only character in this whole freakin' drama that tries her best to do only good. Her only "sin" is that of falling for Hoon who is, in my opinion at least, obsessed, not in love with the idea of reuniting with his lover. Is he really that blind and cannot see that that girl is playing with him? He trust her way too much... I wish he'd at least give a chance to Soo Hyun... but am I the only one who noticed that when Jaejoon asked Hoon about his felings for Soohyun, he kind of reacted the same way Soohyun reacted when Seunghee asked her about her feelings for Hoom? O.o Or was it all in my delusional imagination?
Anyway, I just wish Hoon would be a little less brutal with Soohyun... but right now, I don't think that's possible since she kind of butted in his private life^^'

I love how surreal the phrases "obsessed with first love" and "give a chance to Soohyun" meshed into one incoherent musing.

Delusional is the operative word, indeed.

Unfortunately she forgot how to be both a professional doctor and a reasonable person. Although of course, that is a lot coming from Myeungwoo herself.

She is an innately caring person indeed, though I still expected some more decency and self-dignity from her--moping and unabashedly spreading herself like that in front of Jaejoon was really pathetic.

And being the daughter of her father, I think she's just as morally culpable for not stopping him from running the hospital the way he is. Again, the assumption is if she is really that 'good' and sincerely only wants to do good alone.

I also can't remember Hoon telling Soo-Hyun about Jae Hee's operation. It's only Dr. Moon who knows...

Since there's going to be another round...I think the next episode's cliffhanger will be the same as last week's...

I find nurse Min is the only consistent and mature character in this drama.

Soo-Hyun had more screen time again. Is she or isn't she the second lead?

Jae Joon must be smart, he graduated from Harvard. Why can't he point his finger to Director Oh for sending the witness (Hoon's dad) to NK? He already knows that the old man will do everything to protect his hospital. No sane doctor will volunteer to go there.

That's the thing, Jae Joon is not aware of the conspiracy done by Chairman Oh like Soohyn does, so his frustration functions with what he knows, for now.

He doesn't need to be aware of the conspiracy. He just needs to remember that no sane person goes to live in North Korea for the sheer fun of it. It's pretty globally known that it's not the land of dreams and opportunities, but more the place you can put your toe out of line even half an inch.

I'm done with Hoon's character...Even if Soohyun confessed her feelings to him and that he does not reciprocate, that's no reason to be this cold towards her.

Wasn't he the one who was always goofing around with her?
That's a 180 degree turnabout if I have ever seen one....completely inconsistent.

And Ji Se Yeon was especially flat today...when she hugged Soohyun and said that she was sorry that Soohyun had feelings for Hoon, her eyes were like ...DEAD...her whole face totally expressionless...

Or maybe because he was always goofing around her and he was comfortable with their relationship but she just had to make things awkward between them when she tries to be insistent with her feelings.

That and also timing. She couldn't have picked up the worst timing to blurt out her confession. What was she expecting him to do?

To be honest I knew this would happen, that people here will start hating on Hoon just because he rejected the advances of someone he doesn't love, just because she loves her doesn't mean he has to love her back, she is putting him in a very difficult and awkward situation, first of all she's engaged to Jae Joon, second she's the daughter of the man who indirectly killed his father, even knowing all this Hoon didn't hate on her and treated her like a good friend, i think it's better for him to treat her coldly so that she start hating him than loving him, it's for her own good, now that she has confessed her feelings and got rejected i hope she moves on, it's not easy but if she still clings on him then she'll definitely look pathetic in my eyes, i think that is the reason why i never have 2nd lead syndrome, they are nice and all but very selfish when it comes to love, they only care about what they feel and don't give a damn about what the male lead or female lead feel in terms of relationship, it's like just because they love someone they expect them to love them back. It doesn't work like that in real life.

She knows he's not interested but she keeps coming at him anyway. Hoon's not at fault here, Soo Hyun is.

You don't have to be a HoonHee shipper to like this episode. I just like how successfully Soohyun got eviscerated in a concise and abrupt manner.

Another more of her moping and I thought I would go and start an open season for duck hunting.

Now the story can finally bury this shipping that has overstayed its welcome for far too long and burdened this story with unnecessary shipping wars. No more shipper pandering, just just get to the main point already show.

There are dramas that you watch for the intricate plot and dramas that you watch for the beautiful actors and their angsty relationships. I think, that the viewers were guided, early on, to place this drama into the second category. Our drama hearts would break if we allowed ourselves to care about the incompetently presented conspiracy story.

You're right. And I think most people were watching for similar reasons, but unfortunately the writer messed up the characters and their relationships a long while back and now this drama is nothing but shots of good-looking people making confused and vaguely pained expressions.

And, y'know, I can just Google their magazine spreads if I want to see that.

You are so right! I've stopped caring about the characters and their relationships (except for poor Chang-yi... she deserves to get hooked up with a decent boy!). And now the cast has been reduced to making the same facial expressions over and over again, depending on the character, because the same things keep happening to them over and over again. What a waste of promising talent!

Here's my beef with Jae Hee: she's a spy. She's been TRAINED to complete a mission and make it succeed at whatever cost for who knows how long. What is it exactly? I don't give a flying fuck. We know so little about her and I just cannot trust her. Soo Hyun is literally the only transparent person in the entire damn drama and with Hoon's entire life being shrouded in conspiratorial bullshit I think he deserves something simple. So as a quack hoon shipper these are my two cents...
It also may be that JSY is not emotive enough for me. She always looks like she's holding back a little anguish and has that awful one eyed cry. And then she always dies... at her engagement parties.

So what do you want Hoon to do? Just dramatically fall into Soo Hyun's feet proclaiming his everlasting love for him? Gurl, Hoon has rejected that girl three times already and it's time for Soo Hyun to get the flipping hint that Hoon will never like her back. I don't know if she has a thick skull for a quack or what.

And KSR did improved from her annoying character from Dream High 2. Now, I don't have the urge to scratch her eyes out whenever I see her in DS.

Oh, please learn how to type more readable english. You sounded like a tween that cried like Soohyun. Do you even get what is the use of ellipsis?

Lastly, I'm just tired of the whole "Quack couple" and "HoonHee" shit everyone wants to. I would ship, but not when the drama is supposed to be something serious like medical stuffs. And spy thriller.

Personally, I don't get why everyone is hating on Soo Hyun. She made a mistake, sure...but if you haven't noticed, a lot of the characters on this show have done some questionable things. Hell, Jae Hee didn't even want Hoon to help in that surgery a couple episodes back even when it was obvious that the patient would die without his assistance, and even when he did eventually join in on the surgery, Jae Hee still refused to participate and that's just one of the questionable things she's done thus far- albeit it was for Hoon's sake (or so she claims) but she still did it....and yet Soo Hyun is this awful person because she made a bad judgment call. Yeah oookkay.

As for the disdain for Soo Hyun being "clingy", she is in love with Hoon and is holding onto the hope that he will come to her, the same way Jae Joon is waiting for her to come to him, and the same way Hoon was waiting for Jae Hee (before he was completely certain that SH was Jae Hee)...even despite constant rejection from the object of their affections. It's understandable...at least everyone thought so when Jae Joon or Hoon were the ones desperately "clinging" onto their loves. Should Soo Hyun move past Hoon? Absolutely, because he is emotionally unavailable, but I can appreciate how transparent her character is, especially in a show where nothing is clear. I think everyone is allowing these ships to cloud their ability to see the complexity and humanity of these characters...acting as if Soo Hyun is some sort of villain just b/c you ship Jae Hee and Hoon.

But I guess this is what happens when the writers make a show that's so confusing, all anyone can make sense of is the ships.smh...great recap btw :)

Once you think about it we all saw Jae Hee get shot and plummet to her doom. I think we all thought she was dead at that point, but by some miracle she didn't die. Lucky for Jae Hee, Hoon never thought she was dead and still looked for her. I think the fact that she was at that camp was to try and make Hoon believe Jae Hee still had a chance, there point the whole time was to make Hoon believe she was alive and keep him at the hospital at that time didn't matter If was because Hoon thought he saw Jae Hee or to earn money to bring Jae Hee from North Korea.
When You bring up that Seung Hee might have been trained to be Jae Hee you have to think about how if Jae Hee was at that camp the whole time and all she would say was Hoon how would they train her plus she would to now every single moment that Jae Hee had with Hoon. Something tells me if Jae Hee was willing to be shot for Hoon, and knowing what kind of person Jae Hee was she wouldn't tell them anything if it was to harm Hoon even if they were to aim a gun right at her forehead.
And plus there are way to fake death we saw Hoon use one with the injection, who says Jae Hee died and maybe she did die. But maybe they relived her

Here's the thing... If this entire plot by the Prime Minister is to get Hoon to operate on the President and put him in a coma/kill him, then why didn't he just do the following:

Have his buddies in North Korea allow Hoon and Jae Hee (and maybe even her dad) to "escape" back to South Korea. Once Hoon gets a job at a hospital, kidnap Hae Jee and/or Hoon's mom/Jae Hee's dad, and hold them hostage until Hoon does the operation on the President.

What an amazing waste of time, money, political favors, and potentially medical patients this current scenario is!

I think the writers are actively trying to destroy the Hoon-Soohyun ship. Jahee is getting more sympathetic lines. Soohyun is getting more and more crazy. While her reasons had some merit, they facts are that she disobeyed her boss and ditched an active surgery. Then she almost kills someone because she is scared? Then she goes snooping through other people's stuff.

The only thing that I could respect about her this episode were her interactions with Jaejoon. She is honest with him, and she does try to send him away so not cry about another guy in front of him. When she is not in her white coat of crazy, she actually treats Jaejoon with more respect than she treats Hoon.

I don't see why this recap should be so sympathetic to So Hyun who is acting as a RETARD and so harsh on Seung Hee who is just playing her part as a level headed human being; excusing So Hyun's action as "well, we've all been in love...." I wish we all had that excuse handy for crossing professional and personal boundaries.

I mean, it must be OK to walk out of an active surgery into another without the lead doctor's consent, wake up another doctor's comatic patient without permission and without checking with them, when it's clearly at risk to the patient; enter into someone else's property without permission and snoop through their private things, because "we're in love"; please give me a break!

Why is everyone blaming Hoon, I mean the guy had told her THREE times that he is clearly NOT interested in her; but darling So Hyun refuses to listen but keeps insisting on her feelings, so what do you expect him to do? The first few times he spoke gently with respect, but the lady wasn't listening, so he had to break it down in a way she would understand. How does this make him the bad guy? I don't get it.

It amazes me that the difference between So Hyun's actions and Seung Hee's isn't apparently clear with regards to the patient. So Hyun went behind Hoon's back to revive the patient, even after Hoon's insistence to allow the patient remain in a coma ; in Seung Hee's case, she merely gave Hoon the benefit of her professional opinion. Hoon was free to take it or leave it. If you were in Hoon's shoes, the former behavior would really piss you off, while you'd be more inclined to listen to the latter's advice. This is lousy writing at best, the writers could not have done a better job assasinating So Hyun's character if they tried.

What really aggravates me is that So Hyun couldn't call her father out on his behavior after learning of what he did to Park Hoon and his dad, all she could do was dissolve in a pool of self pity, "woe is me", I lost all respect for her then. She really has become a whiny, self indulgent brat. Her feelings DO NOT come before Park Hoon's, his dad's, or a patient's welfare.

I think that at this point, all of us can agree that none of the doctors portrayed are actually all that great of human beings. There's a difference between being a good doctor and a sane, reasonable person and well, the complete lack of professionalism on display proves that no one in the darn hospital is the latter. Arguing who is worse is a moot point; all of them would be fired within minutes at a real hospital.

But Hoon does not consider himself a doctor. After he was blackmailed into not performing a surgery, he realizes he was just pretending he could be good. This is a guy who tortured and murdered hundreds to save his own skin. It isn't surprising how far he would be willing to go for a loved one.

The reason why he is such a compelling character is the fact that he realizes this and is working so hard to be better.

Required fields are marked *

Hoon is a good doctor believe or not. He acts recklessly but think about what way he was made into a doctor in North Korea he didn't need permission to do surgeries and even in North Korea it was obvious he didn't care he acted however he wanted because he was the best and they wouldn't do anything to someone like him that would get North Korea funds and new machines. Now if we talk about doctors Hoon doesn't consider himself a doctor and he isn't pretending to be one either, he really couldn't careless if he got fired. Hoon might put his emotions first because for one I think he deserves some happiness. He has no mother, his dad was shot right before his eyes, he was taken from his home and forced to live in North Korea, and then he was taken from his home again and force to do horrible things. Jae Hee was taken from him right after he purposes and then once again when he thought he would be able to live a happy life with her. So I totally defend him and plus the only reason he was working as a doctor at that hospital was to earn money. He could work at any other hospital and be happy but and actually care about working there but since that one has people that don't like him because of his dad. He didn't want to be surgeon in the hospital in the first place, he has been to jail for Jae Hee a few times so I don't really think he cares if he loses his license or goes to jail for murder he has made it clear and if you can't see that you must be blind.
And to say he is not a good doctor would be stupid what kind of doctor operates on some when they don't have Money, a doctor that cares. Doctors believe or not are doctors because they have to make money to live. What doctor that you know wouldn't care what the chairman told him and still operated. yes a reckless one but also one that cared he made it clear that he didn't care about the competition he didn't treat any of the rounds like competition. The one with the malpractice proves that he does care because at first he was holding back not wanted to put Jae Hees life in danger but you after a while I think his dads word probably rang in his ears and he realized that it didn't matter to him anymore he didn't care about the money, the hospital or at that point Jae Hee he only cares about saving the patient and that right there showed you that he wouldn't exactly do anything for his love Jae Hee like we all thought.
Soo Hyun isn't a good doctor in general and she proved it when she went against Hoons words. Hoon is the guy that actually has performed the SAVER procedure and knows what a normal recovery time would be so why would she wake him up when he gave his direct orders basically to not even think to wake him up. That is another point that shows you Hoon cares about his patients because any other doctor under that pressure would have awaken the patient without even a hesitation

Let's all just agree that the doctors on Doctor Stranger are unrealistic ones. They're painted as the doctors who are willing to do anything to save their patients but to what extent is that allowable in a real hospital situation? Hoon ended up saving his patient's life with the Saver Procedure but at what cost? The procedure had a low chance of success and as such (and with all procedures carried out at the hospital), consent must be given by the guardian or the patient himself. Doing the procedure without consent is simply arrogance and a disrespect for the patient. Simply stated, Hoon would have had his license suspended or been subjected to review in a real life scenario.

Good doctors are the ones who can play the hospital game; they're the ones who can argue for their patients and save them within the confines of hospital regulation. Those who completely ignore hospital rules and do whatever he wants (AHEMM HOON) are irresponsible doctors. If Hoon had less godlike abilities (seriously, his hand is essentially a CT scan), his arrogance would have cost lives. Then, because he refused to listen to the hospital, he would have no backing whatsoever and be allowed to sink.

Would I want anyone of these doctors to be my doctor? No. Would I want to be like any of these doctors in the future? No thank you. I want my job and to be responsible for my patients.

I will give you a live example "ME" i am one of jong suk fans, I can tell you honestly, JSY is the worst actress jong suk ever paired with. (well there is Yuri too in No breathing but at least her role was in an 80 minutes movie and wasn't that complicated). Soo Hyun acted hurt when she saw Jae Hee and Hoon together but why when it wasn't like Hoon was dating Soo Hyun and all of the sudden broke up with her for Jae Hee. Plus why was she looking through Hoons stuff it wasn't her place to look through his things no matter what. I can't even hardly recall when she actually had some backbone and was smashing her douchebag stepbrother with a brick. totally unrecognizable now, she's now turned into some blubbering mess wasting screen time.

yeah, and whatever happened to that NK doctor who hooked hoon up with the myung woo gig? And have i mentioned that ive never wanted to strangle the hospital director anymore than right now?

Jae Joon......i don't even know what to make of his storyline. they're just juggling too many storylines atm......hoon's mom, an entire episode dedicated to soo hyun, jae joon's revenge, PM spy thriller, comrade cha..........and yet they keep resurrecting this dead horse 'medical competition' angle.

there are only like 5 episodes left, right?

More like "God! there are 5 more episodes to go?!". Truly a cringe inducing episode on every count. At this point i think a good end would be as follows - Hoon/Cha/Jae Hee/Jang somehow muddle their way through conspiracy and hoon gets to operate on the president. Everyone is watching from the glass room on top. Then Dr Yang, who's a sleeper spy all this time, whips out a big gun and shoots Hoon, Jae Hee, Cha, the premier, the president, the Chairman, Dr Moon...you get the picture right?

The. End.

There's only 5 episodes left and we're exactly where we started ... no idea what the heck is happening. We don't know who the lead is, what the heck is happening, and why Dr. Moon hasn't slammed his face in any more doors lately. You'd think that we'd be clued in by now but nope. Me thinks the writers were in over their heads and are lost as well.

Oh wells, it was fun while it lasted and now it's just a complete train wreck of a drama. What a pity, it had such potential.

They tried to make this drama into so many things: epic love story, medical drama, spy/action drama, sometimes even a rom-com. It's just too much.

As much as I ship the Quack Couple and love Kang So-ra, I can't help but think that this drama would have been better without a second-lead female character, or at least one that had to be part of the primary romance. The Hoon/Jae-hee relationship is complicated enough as it is without someone else's tears and broken heart getting involved. Jin Se-yeon's performance notwithstanding, they should have dialed down Soo-hyun's romantic involvement with Hoon and instead tried to work on making people root for or be more sympathetic to the Hoon/Jae-hee plight.

Soo-hyun's story has only been filler for the drama so far. They previously hinted that she may be part of Seung-hee/Cha's schemes, but it seems that the writers have forgotten about it, at least for now. And now they're about to make her the one to find out Seung-hee's big "secret", whatever it is (since someone said in a previous comment that the CT scans don't seem like they offer any confirmation regarding Seung-hee's identity). If they start making her villainous and revenge-y, then the character assassination would be complete. :(

ohmygodddd this is exaaaactly what I said in a discussion today. Kang Sora's character is starting to become pointless. I wish the writer would've just picked a damn couple to develop and just STUCK with it. If you want the first love couple, then seriously, there's enough to talk about them without the need of a third wheel! If you wanted the HoonHyun relationship to be endgame, then the story should've been told differently. Sheesh.

What went wrong with this show, oh it had such a wonderful promise. I remember how my little heart burst with pure glee and excitement as i watched the first 2 episodes.
When Hoon laughed i laughed, when he was sad, i was sad, when he cried i cried (i wailed when his father died) and I even loved Jae Hee back then (i hadn’t started to loathe her one trick pony like acting capabilities- i mean she has this recurrent facial expression every time “contorts lower lip and gets all sad puppy eyed”- that’s her "i’m gutted expression"- whether she accidently drops a penny on the floor, misses her bus to work, or loses a limb or a loved one she’d still show the same expression-though i have to say she’s as pretty as they come).

A couple more episodes down the road, i liked Soo-Hyun aka Quack, her and Hoon had some chemistry, I had to latch on to something for i was drowning in the abhorrent sea of mad conspiracy, revenge and convoluted political complots of villainies and Hoon superpowers (he is not a genius doc, no no no- He is a super hero in a white coat- his laser eyes, his scanner like hands can see/feel past the flesh and diagnose ailments- who needs expensive equipment- few years in the gritty nasty unforgiving North is what’s up- Harvard? perish the thought, you won’t find the right stimulus aka gun on temple/head and human guinea pigs to experiment on).

So yeah i shipped Hoon and Quack for a while ( but we all know how that has turned out…that ship has sailed and is, as i write, hitting the iceberg harder than the titanic) so I’m begrudgingly letting go. It’s mainly the writers fault, they didn’t establish right away or in a timely manner who the lead lady in this unwholesome ordeal was. In the end, i came up with my own version of events (that’s my coping mechanism when i’m faced with too harsh a (kdrama) reality/denouement- God’s gift i'm looking right at you).

So in my alternate reality , Myungwoo Hospital is like the island from Lost, nothing is what it seems, as for Jae Hee well, she never made it out from the ghastly north k after her trip from Budapest. The Jae Hee we see now, isn’t the real Jae Hee her equivalent is a member of “The others,” she may even be Jacob?, and Hoon is Jack's version, and Soo Hyun is Kate’s version and Jae Joon's is Sawyer. Basically, i am amusing/distracting myself from the grief i got from watching the last episode of Doctor Stranger (any who what characters of Lost would you have chosen?). What we might agree on, however, is who the black smock is: comrade Cha, no contest there, haha. but then who would prime minister JangEvil be?

I'm not sure whether this shows more about the grotesquely cavalier attitude of the production team, or about my personal obsession with the nicities of Korean word forms....

But anyway, the answer to the riddle of whether we saw that scene with Quack and Hoon concerning SY's kidney transplant that Quack flashes back to at the end of ep 15 is ...

NOPE, we didn't SEE it, 'coz it ain't there. But YUP we did HEAR it, because the dialogue Quack recalls actually happened, word for word (almost), in ep 6 at around 00:52:44. But in that scene, Hoon was telling Dr Moon about the kidney transplant and why he needed to see those records to be sure of SH/JH's identity. And they were quite deliberately having that conversaion on the roof, where by Kdrama convention, no-one is ever overheard. So Quack must have bionic ears as well as delusional false recall.

In ep 6 , Hoon tells Moon
재희는 신장 이식 받았어요. 2년 전쯤에.
Moon asks incredulously:
신장 이식?
And Hoon explains
양쪽 다 상태가 너무 안 좋아서 하나를 이식 받았어요.

And in ep 15 Quack recalls Hoon telling HER
재희는 신장 이식 받았어. 2년 전쯤에
Quack asks incredulously:
신장 이식?
And Hoon explains
양쪽 다 상태가 너무 안 좋아서 하나를 이식 받았어

The difference? Purely and simply the 요 particle attached to the verb "to receive", which is there when Hoon is talking jondaemal to Moon and absent when he's addressing Quack in banmal.

Plainly this team think absolutely anything goes as long as it lets them keep the "plot" going somehow or other.

Best ending? Quack is really a CIA plant, and she and Seung Hee discover Hoon's real power is his pheromones, which cause women to fall hopelessly in love with him. They realize they have been set up by their agencies, shoot up a bunch of random thugs in a prk in Seol in the last scene, and escape together, smiling.

Brilliant, because it also solves the problem of what's to be come of doggedly faithful and constantly put-upon Bottle Girl.

She abandons the bottled water business and instead makes a fortune selling somewhat smaller bottles laced with Hoon's pheromones on eBay. As the only sensible adult in the entire drama, she's just about capable of keeping Hoon out of trouble, provided he sticks to working in the various part-time jobs she's handed over to him and never goes anywhere near a hospital or clinic again.

Hilarious! LOL.
Well that proves the unexplained call made to report a spy. Did she or did she not ?? remains.
Agent Cha must have received the report, and with Hoon's pheromones extracted, he is able to smell him at every corner; hence the obsession.

First of all, please let me thank you for your recaps. I'm slowly becoming addicted to them!

Secondly, I am breaking my radio-silence because while I actually enjoy Doctor Stranger (I know, I'm probably weird) in this episode the whole 'WAKE THE PATIENT UP STAT!' business tested my patience beyond belief.

I mean, Doctor Hoon is...well...a FREAKING doctor. He is the one who has studied the case, he's the one who has performed the operation and he's the one who knows best how to deal with the post-operation process. HE and only HE is the one who gets to decide when to wake the patient up. What the hell does the wife think she is?

I know this is Dramaland and everything but, in the real world, you DO NOT go against doctor's orders. Period. Unless you have solid proof that something went wrong, if the doctor thinks it's better for the patient to be in an induced coma for a few days, you better freaking trust him. Besides, you don't even need to be a doctor to know that after an open heart operation, you NEED a few days for the body to be strong enough to be awake.

Geez, this bit pissed me off so much. If I were Hoon I would ask her to sign Liability Waiver before waking the husband up, freeing Hoon of any responsibility since he is acting under duress and against his judgment when complying with her demand to wake the husband up. That would probably make her think twice about it.

Anyway, asides from that, I'm very much looking forward to episode 16 to see what happens with the love triangle....as if things weren't complicated enough for Jae Hee and Hoon.... *sadface*

Well, after watching ep 16, I'll spend the rest of the week trying to decide between two equally unpleasant possibilities

1) The decision the LSY character makes today, with its motives and repercussions, were in the storyboard from the start. In which case the leads should have run a mile when offered this script.

OR

2) Today's events were the result of an emergency rewrite driven by a desire to keep the most vocal faction among the shipping sorority happy.

Either way, I'd say mainstream Kdrama has suffered a serious blow to its credibility.

I'd say it's more that it turns out she's inherited the Self-Sacrificial-Noble-Idiocy trait that Kdrama writers seem to believe defines the Korean genotype and distinguishes Korean culture from the "individualistic" West. Apparently no amount of hand-to-hand combat skills or precision pistol-shooting training can counteract it.

I think that was more because the writers have finally seen what a liability he is, hence... But I musn't anticipate the recap.

I'll just remark that it's entirely possible that the lake which figures in today's episode was filled at massive Prime Ministerial expense with water from the River Danube, which, as this drama has revealed, possesses miraculous healing powers.

I actually feel like Jaehee is the MAIN MALE protagonist. Clearly without her, hoon wouldn't even have made it past ep6. The first 2 eps was the manliest Hoon would ever be, after that all his dashing just disappeared. The rest was all about jaehee taking care of her beau. :D

At least they have the decency to make fun of the character and not inundate the thread with the same old JSY hate drivel that some of the more "elite" posters here does.

And I don't think Jaehee was ever in a precarious situation that demanded "damage control." Soohyun is just dismal in this episode, and it shows.

That could be because KSR the actress at least was not at fault and gave a good performance before her character got assassinated. Not all criticism of JSY is 'hate drivel', whether you want to take swipes at db posters or not.

Watching Lee Jong Suk and Park Hae Jin is fun -- be still my heart -- and that is why it is leading the ratings. Hoon is a survivor! In spite of all the darkness there is something upbeat and comic in the optimistic character of Hoon and several of the other characters...Dr. Moon hamming it up, the skirt chasing surgical resident, and the toy castle.

I enjoy this drama in spite of how absurd it gets. The dark stuff just doesn't ring true. Too bad that the plot is so ridiculous but we can live with that. Hoon is such a good guy in spite of everything.

I love your recaps - the narrative defibrillator line is brilliant!!!

I don't get it about what's so special regarding Lee Jong Suk..sure he's quite an eye candy, but his acting ability is just average to me. Don't get me wrong, he's talented but still not there yet, something with him that just not delivers. Maybe the one I should blame is the writer and director?

I actually love this kind of genius theme shows, because the actors who plays the genius usually will have some unique traits that would be fun for me as an audience to watch. I love The Mentalist(Simon Baker), with how he acted mostly by using his facial expressions and body language are just astounding and not to forget Bones ( Emily Deschanel)..and should I include Johnny Depp in Pirate Of Carribean as genius too?

The writers truly do not do their research.

Kidney transplants - JH would not have only one kidney unless she'd been a donor. Someone who received a kidney would have three, and the third one would likely be in the pelvic area. Unless there's a specific reason to remove the patient's own kidneys (eg., cancerous), the surgeon isn't going to.

Waking a patient from an induced coma - This one was, of course, total Drama Plot Device, but it still made my butt twitch. The family is not going to be in the room while the patient is being woken up, and no one other than doctors and nurses will be allowed in until it's determined the patient is stable enough to handle visitors. The way the family pounced right on JJ's patient as soon as he started to blink made me want to scream. Seriously? She just woke up from a coma and you're talking at her, wanting a response, not waiting before the next person gets up in her face all emotional, talking at her and wanting a response. You're going to stress the shit out of her! What she needs right now is for her husband and spawn to sit CALMLY AND QUIETLY by her bedside and keep their visit short because she's recovering from a Major Operation.

I half suspected Chairman Evil of allowing the wife of Hoon's patient in when he was being woken up in hopes that her emotional outburst when he came out of the coma would stress him so much he'd have a major cardiac episode right there and die.

You have to see it from different perspectives.

Hoon - once upon a time, he fell deeply in love with JH. I don't think he's obsessive. When you fall deeply in love, you'll understand how he feels. JH was forcefully taken away from him without a proper goodbye, and he has searched for her for many years and they finally reunited!! it's understandable how he's acting. He got the love of his life back. Also, its reasonable how he's acting towards Soo Hyun. when you love someone else, but someone else likes you when you two were supposedly friends, it makes things very awkward. If Hoon continues being all friendly and joking with SH, i think SH would be hurt even more, so I'd rather he distance himself. If SH could get over him and not stick to him, it would be much easier to get back to being friends.

Jae Hee - she loves Hoon very much, even though she doesn't show it the same way as he does. It doesn't mean that her love isn't there, she just expresses it differently. She's a double agent, that's what I think, cooperating with Agent Cha so that Hoon won't be touched, and thats her form of love. She couldn't let anyone know of her real identity because that brings danger to everyone whom she has been in contact with. From her behaviour, she doesn't want anyone to be hurt because of her. She might appear cold and distant, but every human being has feelings, and that's her way of showing Hoon that she loves him.

Soo Hyun - its also understandable where she comes from. when you like someone, its natural to want to stick to him/her because you can't help it. No matter what you tell yourself, for a period of time, you can't help but feel something for the guy/girl you like. thoughts turn into actions. SH probably felt betrayed as well bc no one tells her anything, so her questioning Hoon about SH being JH might come off as "annoying", but face it, no one likes being in the dark. You want to quench the curiosity as much as possible.

Jae Joon - has a soft side, definitely, esp for SH. He perhaps had wanted to take SH for granted, but he fell in love with her instead. He gets jealous easily, and I'm sure all of us can relate to that pretty well. He's hurt, but doesn't show it. He just doesn't want to lose SH because she's precious to him. It's like how per say you and your bf/gf are together and suddenly a new guy/girl comes into the pic and your bf/gf starts falling for him/her. It hurts, really. It's just that he doesn't want to lose her.
