Jung Il-woo as prince by day, watchman by night

It only took forever (okay, maybe weeks), but we finally get a decent peek at our ghostbusting prince Jung Il-woo in his new summer fantasy sageuk The Records of a Night Watchman. The newest stills are from his first day on set as the lonely bad boy prince who lives outside the palace walls, and the other shots are from the poster shoot last week for Jung Il-woo and Yunho, dressed as ghost-fighting night watchmen.

The 20-episode supernatural drama stars Jung Il-woo as a “ghost-exorcising prince,” who is gifted with the ability to see ghosts. It’s in his royal bloodline since his father (played by Choi Won-young) was a night watchman and king before him. But the prince is said to live a lonely life away from the palace, harboring heartache and turning away from his duties as the legitimate heir to the throne.

He’s an interesting character who actually speaks to the ghosts around him. Aw, is it because he’s so lonely? He’ll even have a ghost who follows him around, played by the always funny character actor Go Chang-seok (Good Doctor, and a zillion other dramas and movies, including Hello Ghost where he was a ghost that followed Cha Tae-hyun around). He’s a minister who died opposing the ascension of Jung Il-woo’s illegitimate brother Kim Heung-soo, and continues to serve the prince even in the afterlife.

He’ll follow Jung Il-woo around in order to help him get his life back on track and stop being the prodigal son. That is going to be SO adorable. And in learning to listen to the joys and the sorrows of the people by experiencing them firsthand, the prince will eventually overcome his fears about leading a nation, and grow up. Okay, you’re starting to give me hope again, so don’t blow it with cheesy-looking dragon monsters, yeah? *thinks positive thoughts*

Night Watchman follows Triangle and premieres August 4.

the costumes are seriously amazing. women have beautiful traditional clothing in many cultures, but for men i think traditional and embellished korean clothing takes the cake.

My Yunho oppa in a hanbok. I can't deal. <3

Though his acting is making me nervous. Hopefully he does decent enough. Or at least not bad enough to stand out.

Hello there Jung Ilwoo in all his sageuk glory. :)

Jung il woo looks good & I actually like the plot. I reserved my comment on Yunho since I already said a lot before. That being said, so many new commentators in this thread. Hopefully it wont get overly heated like last time.

Hey, no female leads in this? Just intrigued. It'll be a refreshing change if there is no love story in this.

So I like just realized that Night Watchmen isn't the same drama as that other fantasy sageuk drama with Night in the name, that one was Scholar who Walks the Night, I've spent the past couple months wondering when we were going to start talking about how Jung Il-woo is a vampire.

At least we get a more interesting plot than the boring love line. especially with Yunho who cant even act. It is getting better is they focus more on other characters like funny man Go Chang-seok and made it into a comedy instead .

Prince lee rin looks so charming in the costume. Can't say the same about Yunhp though. He looks weird. He does not carry the ancient look well. And even more he just cannot act.

Love Il Woo from Return of the Iljimae and Moon Embracing The Sun. This drama is a bit too fantasy for me but it's fun. Thank you for your recap, it's always useful for me who is not Korean and try to understand different culture from the dramas.
