Fated To Love You: Episode 13

Thank the drama heavens that this episode is filled with such sweet moments that I might get a cavity from the sugar overload. But just like any cavity, those saccharine moments are paired with some emotional beats that reminds us of the all-too-recent pain. At least I’m not the only person longing for sweet things in this hour, as we watch Gun jump through all kinds of hoops to at least be in the vicinity of the one gem of a woman who’s returned as an even brighter star in his sky.

If you can believe it, Fated To Love You secured first place at 11.5%. Joseon Gunman hit 11.1%, and It’s Okay, It’s Love came in at 9.8%.

EPISODE 13 RECAP

We open with a man relaxing in a bubble-filled bathtub, and he takes a baby in his hands afterwards. Giving the infant a kiss, the man (cameo by Park Joon-hyung of g.o.d.) delivers his lines about the body shampoo and sends another wink to the camera.

The director calls cut wraps up the commercial shoot, ignoring Yong’s feeble protests to get a better take. Just then, someone snaps their fingers and a familiar voice calls out, “Hold it.” It’s Gun, who saunters into the set, rapping along to the song “To My Mother.” (Another meta-moment: Jang Hyuk also appeared in the music video here.)

Gun takes it upon himself to teach the celebrity how to hold the infant properly so that it feels comfortable in his arms. Ha, this reminds me of the time when Gun acted as a midwife and knew all the things about childbirth. Has he kept up with pre- and postnatal care in the past three years?

Gun introduces himself to Park Joon-hyung before calling out orders on set, all with a hearty laugh and wide smile. When he meets up with Manager Tak downstairs, he assures him that he’s never threatened to cancel any kind of contract these past three years, let alone terminated one.

We’re also given a familiar re-introduction to Mi-young: running with coffee in both hands into a building where gallery exhibition preparations are underway. Daniel oversees the production, and when a staff member points out one particular painting (entitled “le soupir” or “miss/longing” from the Korean) depicting a child gesturing a snail with its hands, he says the artist likely treasures this one the most.

Daniel suppresses a smile when the staff curiously asks when the artist, Ellie Kim, will arrive, his eyes fixed on Mi-young. It’s sweet how Mi-young offers a drink to everyone, including the janitor ajumma, before she’s introduced as the artist in question and the star of the exhibition.

Gun meets with Doctor Moon at the hospital, and notes how the doc is one of the people he sees most frequently these days. It rather seems like his devil-may-care attitude about his health is a front to ward off everyone else’s concern, though he still listens intently at hearing his latest test results have come back clean.

As of now, it seems like his genetic disease is lying dormant, and Gun will need to make sure not to let any triggers set it off. He’s even adopted a realistic perspective on death, but is slightly annoyed that he should have a special someone in his life.

Speaking of which, Grandma Wang is busy looking at marriage candidates for Gun over at Lee Manor. HA, are those all pictures of Jang Nara? That. Is. Awesome. But rather than a prestigious background, Grandma is more interested in someone who has pride in her roots and puts others before themselves.

Ji-yeon, who’s in charge of this selection, offhandedly remarks: “What if you just brought Mi-young back?” Heh. Grandma Wang says she couldn’t possibly hope for someone as perfect as Mi-young again. Aww, I love that she truly adored her granddaughter-in-law. And while she entertains the notion of sending Gun on a romantic trip overseas, Mama Yong swipes one of the candidate’s portfolios.

In the car, Daniel puts out his hand which Mi-young takes. Are you two an item now? That only lasts for a few seconds though, since Daniel is told to pay attention to the road. Using his hand like a mic, he interviews Mi-young on how it feels to return to Korea.

She says she thought that a lot would change, but it feels like not much has. Daniel jokingly takes offense to that, saying that he’s by her side now. Have you moved out of being friend-zoned and neighborhood oppa now?

Gun picks up Se-ra after one of her students’ performances. Suffice it to say, she’s a teacher now, and Gun laughs cheerily at the mound of presents from her own fanclub. He asks if she regrets quitting ballet, but she seems pretty happy, and if anything, they seem to be on friendly terms.

He gladly helps her fasten a necklace given to her by her fans, and of course, that’s the moment Daniel and Mi-young arrive at the same restaurant. Mi-young’s the only one who spots the other duo, though the sight is enough to distract her during her meeting about working in Korea.

Both Daniel and Mi-young are caught off-guard when they’re asked about future marriage plans, though Daniel says he’s been giving hints about his feelings towards Mi-young. I don’t think a three-second hand-holding really counts, but Imma throw you a bone anyway.

When Gun drops Se-ra off, he declines her invite to hang out this weekend, citing personal business. They tease each other on their (absent) love lives: he says she can have her pick among the men lining out the door to date her; she says he must have forgotten the basics in dating.

Mom closes up shop at her little restaurant and sends the rest of the family home. She keeps a close eye on the clock as she whips some food for a special kind of regular: Gun. Has he kept in touch with Mom all these years? I’m both moved and near tears — it may have been years in this dramaverse, but the pain still feels so fresh.

She makes a fuss about how he visits so frequently, even though she loves that he does, and Gun asks if Mom’s sneaking in meds in the food. They bicker back and forth like a real mother and son while he eats, and he tells Mom (whom he affectionately calls “Lady Lettuce Wrap”) that she looks a decade younger.

It’s sweet and heartbreaking how Gun lingers outside for as long as he can until Mom finally chases him out. He keeps offering to drive her home, only for Mom to refuse, and it’s only when he finally does leave does she sigh at how he can’t ask her the burning questions on his mind.

But her frown turns into joyous surprise when Mi-young appears with Daniel from around the corner moments later. Mother and daughter share a happy reunion, and the trio heads home together. Which means that when Gun doubles back to drop off his present for Mom, he finds the restaurant closed.

Mi-young’s family is in awe at home over how sophisticated and successful Mi-young is nowadays, though she downplays a relationship with Daniel. President Park kills the mood by how Gun seriously lost out with his chance with Mi-young, and Mom momentarily flusters when Daniel calls her “Mother.”

Gun arrives home to a spread of marriage candidates, which he notes looks like a snail collection. He smiles at Grandma’s threatening note to hurry up and get married, and then retreats into his man cave, where… he’s kept all the nursery items.

Evidently Gun has kept up with Mi-young’s success as an artist, smiling at the program of her upcoming gallery exhibition. “Our snail’s become really great,” he remarks. “Keddong-ah, Mommy’s really cool, isn’t she?” Is it just me or are those tears building in his eyes?

Much to Grandma’s displeasure, Gun refuses to go on any seons (blind dates with the intention of marriage), then turns to his half-brother Yong to hurry up and get married. Pfft, it cracks up that he calls Yong “Dragon.”

Mama Yong jumps on making the most of that offhand remark in her meeting with the Lee clan head elder, because while Gun has won over the shareholders by throwing himself into his work, Yong could establish himself by getting married and producing an heir.

Gun checks into his hotel for a business trip, and is none too pleased to be given a different room than he specifically planned because another guest has already checked in. Hilariously, he’s told that he’ll be staying in Room 2009 and not Room 2006… because that’s where Mi-young’s staying.

Staring blankly at the number, she sighs, “Why did it have to be Room 2006?” She checks if the last digit is movable. Hahaha.

And as luck would have it, Gun’s room just happens to be directly across the hall. I’ll laugh if that “9” will swing directions.

After the gallery opening, Mi-young sits down for an interview with a few reporters. She hopes that her work will bring joy and happiness to women who are hurting, and express a happy, confident woman receiving love. She makes a slight mention of a painful time in her life, and how someone encouraged her to pursue art to heal that emotional pain. Lastly, she laughs off the question about her personal romantic life.

Meanwhile, Gun has his own Gollum/Smeagol crisis in his hotel room, debating on whether he should go to Mi-young’s gallery exhibition or not. Gollum Gun: “Can I really go?” Smeagol Gun: “Why can’t we? It’s just a cultural experience.” It’s hilarious how Gun’s inner turmoil builds with each passing second:

Gollum Gun: “But what if we cross paths? Have you got a plan?”
Smeagol Gun: “I’m Gun. You think I’d go without one? Listen up, you fool.”
Gollum Gun: “Right, you’re Gun. What are you going to do! Tell me!”
Smeagol Gun: “Just you know, we meet and naturally exchange greetings. ‘It’s been a while,’ ‘Good to see you,’ ‘Have you been well?'”
Gollum Gun: “Is that it? Is that really it?”
Smeagol Gun: “Then I say I came to see the paintings!”

After all of that, Gun decides to head back to Seoul, taking his suitcase. But then we see him lingering outside of Mi-young’s art exhibition anyway. Then Gun musters up the courage and throws on a pair of shades before he slinks and tumbles towards the door.

Ha, I’m glad to see that Gun’s spy moves have gotten better over the years, though they’re still ridiculous and obvious and topped off with the Inspector Gadget soundtrack. His jealous pettiness hasn’t changed either, because once he sees a floral arrangement sent from Daniel, he promptly calls in an even bigger order. Like the BIGGEST.

Gun literally swings in to pay for the flowers (one line reads “Your No. 1 fan forever”), then places the mammoth arrangement right next to Daniel’s. LOL.

Gun skulks down the gallery doing his best to remain unseen (but it totally seen). He spots Mi-young next to Daniel and mutters under his breath that while he’s grateful Daniel looked after Mi-young in France, Daniel better remain as a friendly oppa and nothing more.

He sighs, then acts as bodyguard to Mi-young’s works, chasing people away when they so much as touch the canvas. He prides himself as the first person who recognized Mi-young for her artistic talent, then his eyes fall upon the “le soupir” painting.

Hearing that the artist values this work the most, Gun realizes the similarities between this portrait and the Keddongie mug. He expresses his interest to purchase the painting immediately.

After Mi-young returns to the gallery with her entire family in tow, she’s both surprised and devastated to see her prized painting sold off so quickly. Daniel assures her that he’ll look into the buyer and try to cancel the sale, but Mi-young insists to speak to that person herself.

So Mi-young calls the contact number later that evening, and Gun quickly adopts a female voice (since he left a woman’s name behind) and hangs up before she can get a word in. They continue the conversation via text, where Mi-young expresses her gratitude and apologies to cancel the sale.

She says that work was never meant to be sold, to which Gun replies that he really likes the one he bought. She offers to exchange it with any other painting, and he answers with a petty no. He deflects her attempts to speak on the phone about it, and she says she’ll be waiting at the hotel bar downstairs to meet in person. He says he’ll be in touch later.

With that, both Mi-young and Gun exit their hotel rooms at staggering times for their schedules that evening.

Back in Seoul, Yong is on a blind date who’s eager to hear the possibility that he could run Jangin Chemicals one day. She asks what kind of woman he’d like to marry, and Yong answers, “A woman who is small and weak, but makes me want to depend on her. A woman whose soft heart you can see even if her bright eyes are hidden behind round glasses. A woman who makes me cry inside even with her whispers.” Pfffft, are you talking about Mi-young?

However, the one who hears this is a very upset Ji-yeon, who marches up to the duo. As the Temptation of Wife OST plays in the background, Yong tells her not to make a scene because this is family on the line. Ji-yeon says it doesn’t matter because she’s crazy in love with him. Ji-yeon runs off, leaving Yong with physical emotional pain. Haha.

Gun arrives downstairs in time to see Mi-young sharing congratulatory drinks of champagne with her staff. He hops into an egg-shaped chair to remain unseen, only to pop out again when they rally for Mi-young and Daniel to share in a love shot.

He all but collapses right then and there when they do, but then trips moments later and falls flat on his face. I kinda like that this hour is dedicated to Gun being a bumbling fool and pining after Mi-young.

Gun stays close by the bar though, making snide remarks to seeing Daniel stick so close by Mi-young’s side. He notices that she isn’t wearing glasses anymore and takes a moment to stare at her pretty face. Aw.

He nearly chokes on his drink at overhearing the question of Daniel and Mi-young’s marriage plans. Mi-young gives a non-committal answer, and Gun turns to his neighbor, all, What’s so bad about being single and alone?

He gets so worked up over the question about their first kiss that he unknowingly draws attention to himself by banging a tumbler, then plays off the moment as drunken ramblings of a Chinese guest—loudly introducing himself as Jang Hyuk. HAHAHA.

But Mi-young and Daniel haven’t had their first kiss yet, so Daniel suggests that they do it here and now. He claims to be serious about it and takes her hand, despite Mi-young’s attempts to laugh off the matter. So Daniel draws Mi-young towards him, slowly leans in for a passionate kiss, as Gun freaks out at the bar.

But of course Gun’s imagination has run away with him again because he wakes up at the bar to see Daniel whisper something in her ear instead. “Did you think I’d have our first kiss in a place like this? For whose benefit?” he asks teasingly.

Gun hurriedly sends a text to Mi-young about that painting, which does the trick to draw her away. So Mi-young waits at the park, stopping any woman in hopes that’s who she’s looking for. Not too far off, Gun sits on a bench.

He asks if she’s here, which she says yes. (Omg, Gun—did you already save her on your phone as “Sweet ♥ Peng-ie”?) He apologizes that he won’t be able to meet her after all. Mi-young replies that it’s too bad, since one’s health trumps their meeting and hopes that they can stay in touch. Still the same ol’ considerate Mi-young.

And now we see Gun sitting beside Mi-young, vocalizing their text conversation aloud. He asks what’s so special about that painting that Mi-young, no, she as an artist would treasure it so. It holds genuine meaning to her and is her first painting, but more importantly, the painting is like her family and other self. “Family? Other self?” he repeats.

Mi-young: “In all my life, it’s my brightest, most precious, and a gem of a memory I don’t ever want to forget.”
Gun:: “Isn’t now your brightest and precious moment in your life?”
Mi-young: “Now is good, too… but it pales in comparison to that memory.”

Mi-young catches herself at that moment, wondering why she’s blathering on to a customer. When she takes a look at her surroundings, Gun is already gone.

Gun reflects over Mi-young’s words while downing shots of soju. He drunkenly slurs in awe of how Mi-young would think positively about their time together whereas he believes all he did was hurt her.

Back in her room, Mi-young takes out the Keddongie journal and is interrupted by a loud banging and kicks to enter her room. As expected, it’s Gun, who yells at the door saying that he always stays in this room, unable to understand why his keycard won’t work.

He keeps banging on the door, so Mi-young calls down to the front desk about the disturbance. She inches towards the door cautiously and grabs a heel to use for defense while Gun drunkenly screams “Open sesame!” from the other side of the door.

Those cries soon turn into “Open dalpeng-ah!” but Mi-young is too concentrated on bracing herself to hear that properly. She opens the door and falls into Gun’s arms before they both fall to the ground.

Both look at each other with surprised expressions, and Gun asks why she’s coming out of his room. Mi-young: “But this is my room.” Gun repeats: “But this is my room.”

COMMENTS

Firstly, thank goodness for a lighthearted episode after a most angst-filled pair of episodes last week. I don’t know what I would’ve done if we had to go through the hellish emotional wringer some more at this point. All I can say is that when it comes to Fated To Love You, the emotional highs had to come with lower lows—because Gun was built up in such a positive light and just so perfect, then his downfall had to come swiftly and make him look like the most awful man of the hour. Even if that meant hearing him speak mean words and seeing him act distant to Mi-young (gee thanks, Noble Idiocy—you go take your seat now) despite knowing that doing so pained him. You’re better than all those drama heroes, and you could’ve just been less of a jerk about it, Gun, ‘s all I’m sayin’.

Even though it’s been a three-year skip in this drama’s timeline, it’s been less than a week for the rest of us to cope with the aftermath. Frankly, that made it difficult to laugh at the much-needed comedy at the top of the hour because the scars still felt so fresh—seeing those similarly-played moments from the beginning of the series felt like reopening fresh wounds. Although I’m still wrestling with all of these differing emotions, I have to hand it to the show to find ways to make me laugh anyway. And that’s no easy task for a show with a few more weeks on air (Fated is 20 episodes).

So now it’s redemption time for Gun if he’s got a shot at winning Mi-young back. All of those tiny what-could’ve-been throwaway lines help us establish how he’s become an even-more improved Gun. He hasn’t threatened to terminate a business contract at a whim, has visited Mom at her restaurant (even if it’s in secret), and most importantly—he hasn’t forgotten about either Mi-young or Keddongie. I’d worried about the last bit the most, because I’d wondered how much Gun was affected by the loss. And if there was ever a moment that assured us that Keddongie’s loss still pains him, it was when he was moved by the painting of what I assume would have been Keddongie, and then bought it.

Because Gun and Mi-young’s separation was so painful, there were times I sort of took sadistic pleasure in seeing how hard Gun worked in this hour to appease Mi-young, even if she never knew that it would be him (see: giant flower arrangement). He’s gone through the mental gymnastics of building up that moment of when they would meet again that I find it borderline funny that those thoughts would lead up to him being a drunken mess when he ran into Mi-young again. Not quite the better or more impressive way to meet her again, I’d imagine.

It’s nice to see that Gun and Se-ra were able to remain friends (and that Se-ra moved on with her career as well), though the bigger question mark is what’s going on between Daniel and Mi-young. It’s clear that Daniel still has feelings for her and also that Mi-young appreciates his company…. but that whole topic about marriage just has her skirt away. C’mon Daniel — you had three years with Mi-young in Paris of all places, and you still couldn’t sweep her off her feet?

And speaking of Mi-young, I love that even in her blossoming successful career, she’s still the same sweet soul we came to love in the first place. She’s still considerate of others and thoughtful, and even after such great emotional pain, she can look back upon her time with Gun as a bright and precious memory. So while their reunion may not be what either of them expected, sometimes people need a little magic to bring them back together. What happens afterward is up to them ’cause sometimes people just have to make their own destiny.

I found myself pretty teary throughout this episode even while I was laughing. I was teary when he held the baby. I was teary in his scene with Manager Tak. I wept throughout the scene with mom. I agree with almost everything everyone has said, though I don't find Daniel creepy but rather pathetic--even in his hunky goodness--he and Sera still love deeply but they will not get that same love back. Even if they triumph and their loves come to them. they will always be second; I find that sad.

But no one has mention here Gun and Yong's relationship. You could see this a couple of episodes ago, especially in the photo shoot. Yong and his mother seemed to be a team, but Yong ends up liking Mi-Young (who with a sliver of soul doesn't) and I don't think he ever hated his brother but really wanted the affection. Gun also doesn't seem to hate him; he really just cannot stand his mother (and who can blame him, for she is just spiteful for no reason). It is more than a pat on the butt though, this episode shows that they do think alike. Yong wanted to do another take, but Gun knew why exactly they should, showed them how to do it, and made it happen. I hope we see more of this. I think it will be hilarious because Yong's mom will NOT like Ji-Yeon, but the grandmother is going be So on that train. She already thinks Mi-Young was the perfect daughter-in-law. How could it get any better to have her best friend also as part of the family?

Yes .. I agree with you. What Yong is actually looking for is his hyung acceptance and affection. We saw it in previous episode that having Gun's approval makes him very happy. And this episode sure show us their relationship is going that way.

Trot! We do notice! And we have been talking about it! I think the show decided to do an extremely adorable thing by changing Yong's trajectory. I think it also has a lot to do with him trying to find a father figure in Gunnie. The longing for a deep connection with family supersedes all other schemering and connivering he was up to at one point. And another thing it shows is that if you've got a pure heart, it cannot be easily maligned, even with a mother's influence. His is such a sweet little arch. It may be in overshadowed by all the nonstop cooing we do for our leads, but his is certainly a story we appreciate and cherish.

This episode was just hilarious .. :) I can't help laughing out loud with all Gunnie's antiques and the background song helps a lot .. the gollum, the spy act, the drunken Jang Hyuk hahaha

But also I can't help not to cry especially when he talked to Kaedongie in his man cave about Miyoung. So sweet and so heart wrenching at the same time. Gunnie is carrying his heart on his sleeve, if I was Se Ra I would have seen it and not hoping.

Keeping his relationship with Miyoung's mom is just his way not to lose Miyoung all together and I am pretty sure he loves Miyoung's mom.

Daniel is a gentleman, he is carrying a torch for Miyoung. Within 3 years of not so much change is just a silent statement from Miyoung .. that her heart always belongs to Lee Gun.

Yey for 20 episodes! It was automatic for me to just assume the standard 16-episode format, so this bit is a treat!

THE Hair, I kinda miss it but THE Hot is plenty compensation already.

Applause for the ratings roundabout! :-)

It's fun, poignant and sweet at the same time. I love how they put such cute details into some scenes. Will CJH get to sing a song for the drama's OST just like he did in his other dramas? PDnim that would be greatly appreciated!

Power of a drama is when it makes me de-lurk and comment...

Omg yesterday's episode had me doing cartwheels in my heart for the sweetness and lol-ing with Jang Hyuk hamming it up and do all the crazy things... and had me blaming onions when I cried along...

After last week episodes, I seriously thought nothing could be more tragic. However this episode manage to be funny yet profoundly sad at the same time...
Gun holding a baby, I cried.
Gun having his date with Omma, I cried.
Gun in his man-cave surrounded by baby stuff and talking about awesome Mi Young is to Gaedong, I cried.
Gun conversation with Mi Young on the bench... albeit imaginary, I cried.
There is just this subtle sadness and Jang Hyuk's eyes... omona... expression on his eyes couldn't be more heart-wrenching...
And Mi Young ambiguous status with Daniel makes me want to cry also... makes me feel bad for all 3 parties involved.

Jang Hyuk really does makes me cries... And he is amazing and add he is damn hot with that short hair...

I had very vague memories of Twn versions, hence I don't really recall...

Hence my questions if anyone can help me...
- So there are 3 divorce papers, which the first 2 were void by Gun and a 3rd one which pretty much he was going to leave everything to Mi Young and baby...
What about the one which Sera ask Mi Young to sign, is that even real or she faked it.
I have a feeling that all this years past and when Mi Young past the envelop, Gun did not even check the content and just took it.
Imagine if he were to open it up now... I wonder how does it affects his new found friendship with Sera, since they are still friends and we all know its not easy to be friends once a lover's relationship end... or will it make her reverse and once again revert back to typical evil second lead... I wonder... like maybe she realize she still loves Gun and wants another shot with him. Please, I hope not.

- In Twn version, was the second lead looking for his younger sister as well? Coz it seems Daniel and Sera seems related judging from her scar.

Wonder how the following dynamic is going to be like, but I am hoping the writing don't fail us and its not draggy... for its evident the couple still love each other very much... Hope they can get thru the past hurt, and misunderstanding and that Gun's illness is under control to give him courage to start anew with Mi Young. FATED!

Thanks for the recap.

The two Jangs are wonderful together. These two have some kind of magic going on and it shows.

Se-Ra seems nice as the ex-now-a-friend. Hope she doesn't relapse into Evil Ex.

I like Gun's hair. Mi-young's hair really doesn't need coloring. Daniel's hair looked better colored.

I liked Ellie Kim's art. Cute. Her interview outfit was nice.

Song Ok-Suk's a natural as Mi-young's Mom.

What was up with Oh Sol-Mi's ( sister Mi-Sook ) hair? It looked like a bad wig. The shirt and pants that Jung Eun-Pyo wore. Eek! Fashion crime scene.

LOL @ Gun's Gollum/Smeagol scene.

I'm of the mind that the slight spike in ratings was due to Jang Hyuk's new 'do. Seriously, I'm thanking the dramagods that the time skip brought with it a gorgeous Lee Gun.

Thank for recap! I love this episode so much. I love this show so much!

Jang Hyuk done a very good job. His is a very skillful actor. He can rap, he can do acrobatic, he can be funny and he can be a perfect 3 years broken heart guy. He so perfect..what else this guy can't do! I can follow all his wide range emotions and cry with him during scene that he talk with Gil Dong in his secret room. Both Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara have a wonderful interaction that make this show so wonderful.

I can feel that both Kim Mi Young and Lee Gun still have love each other so much during this 3 years. They just never say or show it out. I believe that, deep down in their heart, they have a wish...to let fate bring them together again. Their no scene that both of they clear their mind out at all yet. I still wait to see how they manage with their pain memory. Worth to wait scene.

I love every single details that writer-nims and PD-nims try to show step by step. It make this show perfect more and more. Everything happened for a reason. I love it!. I will buy Director cut DVD for sure! Fated to love you fighting!

I'm so relieved that they didn't turn Mi-Young into a cold-hearted bitch after the time jump. I'm happy she's still the sweet Mi-Young we all have grown to love.

Hi Gummi! <3

Thank you so much for another great recap. I love the meta references probably more than I should, if at all because I followed g.o.d. for a bit too. LOL.

I totally love the newest release (part 6) off of the FTLY OST. You guys can find it on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRWyDl26Qt0

The official MV has english subs but I feel a bit underwhelmed by the translation so I made my own!

Hope you enjoy!

Title: 잠시 안녕처럼
English Title: Goodbye My Love
Artist: Ailee

눈물은 기억하나 봐
I guess my tears do remember

그대 자릴 또 채워와
since they fill up your space again

지워 봐도 지울 수가 없는
Try and try to erase, the uneraseable

내 전부가 된 그대
the one who has become my everything...

You 볼 수가 없어도 들을 수 없어도
...you. Even if I don't see you even if I don't hear your voice

그래도 난 괜찮아
I will be okay.

이별이 슬퍼도 또 가슴이 시려도
Even if our farewell is sad and even if my heart turns cold

그대만 행복하다면 웃을 수 있다면 난
if you are but happy and can smile, then... I...

지울수록 더 그리워지겠죠
(feel as though) erasing you makes me long for you more

오늘보다 더 눈물 흘리겠죠
...that my tears tomorrow will be more than today.

운명처럼 내겐 다시 없을 단 하나 only you
Like a destiny that I'll never see again, there's only one, only you.

눈물만큼 그대 행복하길 Goodbye my love
As much as these tears I shed, I wish you happiness, goodbye my love.

가슴은 알고 있나봐
I guess my heart knows

터질듯한 이 그리움
About this longing that is exploding in me

감춰 봐도 감출 수가 없는
Try and try to hide, the unhideable

내 심장이 된 그대
the one who is now a part of my heart...

You 가질 수 없어도 만질 수 없어도
...you. Even if I cannot have you even if I cannot touch you

그래도 난 괜찮아
I will be okay.

한없이 아파도 또 눈물이 흘러도
Even if I hurt endlessly and even as my tears fall

그대만 행복하다면 웃을 수 있다면 난
if you are but happy and can smile, then... I...

지울수록 더 그리워지겠죠
(feel as though) erasing you makes me long for you more

오늘보다 더 눈물 흘리겠죠
...that my tears tomorrow will be more than today.

운명처럼 내겐 다시없을 단 하나 only you
Like a destiny that I'll never see again, there's only one, only you.

눈물만큼 그대 행복하길
As much as these tears I shed, I wish you happiness...

한 번쯤은 나를 생각하겠죠
If you happen to think of me one day

가끔씩은 우릴 추억하겠죠
Maybe you will remember us

그거면 돼 또 언젠가 만날
That will be enough, and maybe someday we will meet

그날을 그대를
and until that day, you

기다려요 잠시 안녕처럼 Goodbye my love
must wait, like we are saying goodbye (for a short while)... goodbye my love

Yeah, totally love the song.

You should read the comments on youtube. People in Korea have been waiting weeks for this song to release, since bits and pieces came out a few weeks ago in the episodes.

It's such a nice song and it matches up well with the characters and the storyline.

I listened to it all day yesterday and will probably do the same as I get through my work day.

Dear @samsooki,
Oh, how could you listen this beautiful OST at work??? I became a puddle and cried again as I watched the YT . On cue, when I saw MYsshi clutched the baby book as she was packing to leave Gun's home, I just lost it....not just tears, but non stop, streaming tears.... Oh, FTLY, you got my heart.... I love this OST so much that I had to remind myself it's NSFW...or " crying??...No,I think I got a foreign body in my eye...please ask the other doc to help me rinse it out!!" and then run and hide to cry out first.

Finally comment (i hope so), there are no SUPER DUPER VILLAINS in this drama which is refreshing. We have the evil-step mother but not too villainy, still tolerable. Hope they keep it this way.

This was probably one of my favorite episodes! I like when there is a time jump because it gives the drama more space and character development and makes the chain of events more natural. FTLY executed it perfectly and gave the Gun, Mi Young and Daniel nice makeovers ;D.
I really liked Gun's stalking, it was funny and made me laugh. Some actors/actresses over do it and it becomes awkward.
From what I presume, Sera has moved on from Gun, she just thinks he is a great guy. It makes me so happy to see that she stands on her own after being brought so low last episode. I hope I did not misunderstand and she turns out like the tipical draggy/b*tchy second female lead (T^T, why dramaland? You make 2 guys soooo loveable and give us the second lead syndrome and make the second lead girl soooo dispicable?)
Speaking of second lead, I wasn't sold on Daniel before but this episode broke my heart for him. Daniel and Mi Young looked so good together and did you guys see how he smiles when watching her succeed? I don't want to watch his heart getting run over by a truck T^T.
On a side note: the ost featuring Ailee is finally releaseeeed, that song is just so good, it just fills you up with emotions :')

Ok. Whatever and whyever last week was ~ STAY AWAY~ gimme more of this week pls! Seriously I think this ep made me fall in love all over again.

And this time I love how they fleshed out Gun ~ though. I'm thinking you need some shoulder or hugs ~ like serious therapy time for missing kedonggie but you have mommy dearest and now ~ Ellie!!!!!!!!!

Daniel ~ I wished you were like this from before. But of cos we couldn't have a priest that was gg to be in love w a to be married / married woman.

Okies. I want that painting as a postcard or poster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I can't wait for tmr.

With grandma and mommy rooting for MY and Gun respectively (hahaha that snail exhibit can take one Gun's wall of portraits) & brother Yong and Sera out of the way

Surely it can only be "happily ever after" ~ ~ ~ rrrrriiiiggghhhttttt??????

(stay back you genetic disease!!! *holds garlic out like banishing vampires*)

And the music video remake. Hahahaha. Sorry. I don't know about his previous life as a rapper / singer so I find all these references very entertaining.

It's a Kdrama and it's a liveshoot and yet there is so much artistry and thoughtfulness in it. Like when Mi Young had her accident and they filmed Gun turning in total silence as the camera turned in the other direction. This episode was hilarious and sweet (the umma/Gun scene!) but the scenes that were really gorgeous were when they were texting each other while they were getting ready, and then when they were speaking their texting conversation out loud in the park! When he appeared on the bench next to her and looked at her while she looked at the phone... It was so INTIMATE. I felt like I was watching a theater production, esp with the park scene. The longing and the memories...

I must have rewound and watched that scene a dozen times.

Can't wait for ep 14!

I have to attest that part of the reason why I like this show is how wonderfully put together the whole package deal. It's the thoughtfulness. From the setting to the scripting. Each ep is so complete on its own. And there's like little touches.

Like the silent fade out scene to the I'm talking to you without talking to you. I also like the scene where sera and gun parted ways in the rain. Well filmed.

Ooh. I look forward to my Fridays more cos I've the subbed and recaps to catch =^^=

I have agreed with almost all of the comments, they are all great, and thank you Gummi, for the beautiful recap! I appreciate how this drama is not afraid to show the sensitive feelings of Lee Gun, for example, his joyous entrance to see Mom and eating with her, I believe it is the highlight of his week and then his dual personality in the hotel room, revealing his insecurities...Wow!This drama feels like a tribute to all of Jang Hyuk's work, and that can be celebrated, he is so talented. This K-drama is the best!!!!

I think I am missing something here or I just don't get it...

Three years ago Gun dumped KMY as the Noble Idiot. We get that. But what has changed now? He still caries the genes to have the disease of Hungintons. Dr Octopus told him he is not getting sick so fast as they thought he'd be. So what's the difference now that he's been stalking her and following her every move?
He doesn't want to protect her anymore from his sickness?

This is bothering me too much, I guess I haven't recovered from last weeks episodes. ;(

Other than that I loved how the drama is handling the story.

Required fields are marked *

I know. That's why I hated the treatment last week. Cos there's no way they are gg to write off the illness right?

That said. If my understanding of the subs is correct ~ he's taken a diff perspective now. Previously it's about oh no how can I expect them to be w me knowing I'm gg to die. Now it's like it's a part of life ~ death.

So it's his perspective that changed. Not the fact that he has a disease.

That said.

Is there a doc in the house? Is whatever disease he has something you can do anything about? I mean like can you reduce the chances of it happening at all? By something u do?? I'm kinda clueless about this disease thing.

0

Required fields are marked *

I didn't really catch the part of that perspective, in this episode Gun quickly went on being his old self. But I guess that makes sense, I hope they'll focus more on that in the next episode.

Well ever since they mentioned this disease on this show I went on wikipedia. Gun has 50 percent chance of carrying that gene, and it's already established he has it thanks to Doc Octopus. What I understand from the description on wiki is that it's not curable and there's no way of slowing it down or delaying it...
I guess Gun will eventually get the serious symptoms of it...*shivers*

And as part of his new found perspective I wonder if he told Se Ra? They've been friends for the past three years he can't not tell her right...

Something has not been mentioned is the fact that if carries the gene, there is good chance any offspring would also - perhaps that is another reason he went noble idiot?

Dr. Octopus has never confirmed nor denied Huntington's Disease for Gun. He's straddled the fence the entire drama. The most frustrating aspect for me of FtLY, because I have never believed he had HD. It's too serious of an illness for this light-hearted rom-com. The only symptom LG has is he passed out once and had memory loss on awakening.

There's genetic testing available which will tell you if you have it or not. You either have the gene or you don't. It doesn't skip generations. So, if Gun doesn't have it, his children won't either.

I think the writers will use a massive dose of humor for this reveal. I'm expecting the best comedy yet when it happens. Hopefully before episode 20.

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

My hope is this too although there are varying degrees on what age the symptoms will kick in and whether you'll definitely develop them, from what i can grasp from wiki (and I'm probably wrong) its the amount of recessive faulty genes the person has. Meaning the less of these genes the longer it will take for symptoms to appear, if Gun is one kind of bracket it means he could live till he was 80 and only then start developing symptoms which is a better prognosis than developing it at 40 but it's still quite a bitter pill to swallow if the drama goes forward with this disease subplot.

0

Oh the latest test results showed that he is still clean from that disease...I just rewatched that part with Doc Octopus.
It's all really vague, but that's also reality in medicine.

Honestly I wouldn't him getting that disease eventually, but let that not come in the way of our OTP- again.

(Weird part that Huntingtons is apparently very rare in Asia and Gun's ancestors all suffered from it?)

0

I'm waiting to see how the writers will deal with this problem. Short of the standard kdrama medical mistake, Gun's failure to disclose to MY that he had Huntington's when he first learned that MY was pregnant was in my opinion the primary reason why MY ended up having the miscarriage. My opinion is that Gun had the moral and ethical obligation to disclose this condition to MY, and that this obligation would still be the same the second time around. So let's see how the writers deal with this situation.

Though the episode had its comedic moments, it still had a sad undertone to it. I think it’s nice that they could manage to do that. There are lots of things I liked after watching the subbed version. Especially the fact that Gun and Miyoung’s mom kept in touch. That’s something I was hoping for. They’ve gotten really close over the past 3 years (even closer than Miyoung and Daniel, since he uses banmal when speaking to her mother, whereas Miyoung uses the formal language when speaking to Daniel). I think it’s nice, but also sad that her mother keeps it a secret form the rest. I’m not sure if it’s requested by Gun or not. I think not, since he commented on the fact that it’s always empty when he comes to visit, or maybe he just said it as a joke.

I love that both in-laws don’t blame the other party and still hold them very dear. It’s really telling that grandma seems to think she won’t find a girl like Miyoung for Gun ever again, and only wants someone that would come at least a bit close to the description of Miyoung.

I think it’s a nice touch that Miyoung pictured Gaeddong as a girl. I was surprised by the fact that she was pretty much the same person. The ending of ep 12 made it seem like she change a little. But to me she is exactly the same. Maybe I’ll see a difference when she start to interact with Gun more. Actually everyone seemed to be exactly the same, only a bit matured (which I like a lot; I hate it when characters suddenly change their personalities halfway through the drama). Sera seemed to be back to the way she was, and maybe even nicer (but who knows how she’ll react when she knows Miyoung is back). For now, I like the fact that they remained friends. To me that’s what they should have been from the beginning; I never got romantic vibes from them.

Other minor things that I liked: Gun saving Miyoung’s number as daldal <3 pengi; I guess they both changed their numbers, or had them deleted and didn’t recognize the numbers anymore. The former makes more sense though, especially in Miyoung’s case. Gun in secret agent mode. Yong’s date and the interruption. And more…

I guess what made this episode sad, was the fact that Gun is obviously stuck in the past. Not only is his private room the same, containing everything form 3 years ago. He also holds on to everything related to Miyoung as hard as he can (keeping informed about her, booking the same hotel room, going to her art exhibition, holding off on any dates, even though his grandma would like him to, etc).

And Miyoung too obviously hasn't moved on, from the scene that she saw Gun with Sera, to the drawing (painting?) that she wanted to have back. I actually hope she'll get it back, since it obviously has a very special meaning to her. I thought it was quite sad how she kept waiting for a woman to show up, while it was actually Gun that had purchased it. I understand why he wants to keep it though, and I also understand why he would want to reveal...

and I also understand why he wouldn’t want to reveal himself at that point.

On thing that I'm still confused about is whether he has the disease or not. My subs said the test came out clear. Does that mean he doesn't have the gene? I hope it gets cleared up soon...

I totally love FTLY but 2 things really bother me.
1. Gun and his family knew he had a deadly genetic disease (or at least was a carrier) but nothing was discussed in terms of genetic testing for the fetus, nor was Mi Young warned of the dangers. We all know that MY will end up going back to Gun. I would sure like to see some genetic counseling before they get pregnant again.
2. Is it ethical for MY to accept so much help from Daniel when she knows that he is in love with her and she doesn't share those feelings. I feel like if she really appreciated all that he has done, she should have severed the relationship long before 3 years had passed. Daniel will hold on as long as she allows him to. He has a right to be loved in a reciprocal relationship.

Houstontwin - Great comments, especially number 1! I've been thinking the same thing and just read through all of the comments before yours looking for this point. I wonder if Yong has had genetic testing as well and why grandma is so hyped up for babies without even a breath of worry about the Huntington's disease being passed on to yet another generation. Isn't this a major worry for those carrying this gene? Maybe it's just too technical medically and ethically for a kdrama...we all know that realism in this area (medicine) is not exactly a strength...

As for severing the relationship because the affection differs, I can't agree. There are no perfectly balanced relationships in real life either, and friendships should be treasured, whether the participating parties love each other the same way or not. He does have the right to be loved, but being her friend shouldn't keep that from happening.

I don't speak Korean beyond what I've picked up in my 2 years of drama addiction, but I inferred that the hints of romance have just started since they returned to Korea, that he has kept his role as neighborhood oppa up until now.

Thanks for lifting Daniel's humanity! I was blown away by the comments dogging him out ...he protected and cared for her for 3 years...and in ...Paris...of all places. Heck if I go away on vacation and meet a man in a foreign place after 10 days - I am falling in love with him. Daniel was upfront with her from the beginning regarding his interest. Yet, I love the fact that he respected the vows of marriage - he did not try to overwhelm her with passion and burning kisses. I can understand, she was crushed when she left ....buuuut did she needs his support for 3 years....really....I think not! They both have voids in their heart ...both seeking for someone to truly see them ...someone to hear their spoken and unspoken words....Daniel would have been a jerk if he seduced her, but not for providing unconditional love and support from a respectful distance. Trust me....I can't wait for Gun to make his move, but I don't think we have to demonize Daniel!
