Fated To Love You: Episode 15

Gun will need to be quite the sleuth if he doesn’t want anyone else catching onto the idea about his lingering feelings for the woman he once sent away. Now that he’s clued into the notion that Mi-young is no longer the same woman who fell in love with him three years ago, Gun is caught between preserving her happiness or following his own heart. But no matter where he stands on this battlefield right now, it won’t be an easy fight.

Ratings update: Joseon Gunman came up on top at 11.1%, Fated To Love You followed at 10.6%, and It’s Okay, It’s Love came in at 9.7%.

EPISODE 15 RECAP

At Daniel’s proposal of Mi-young becoming his real family, Mi-young takes a beat before giving her answer. Because Daniel was by her side in her time of hardship after they arrived in Paris, she thought she should be good to the man who endured in her suffering with her.

Neither of them hear the door close behind them, as Gun leaves before hearing the rest of her answer. Mi-young continues, “I thought that if I were to be a part of someone’s family again, it should be with this person. But… I don’t really know if my heart towards you is gratitude or love yet. I shouldn’t be unsure. You sincerely asked me [this question], and I want to give you a sincere answer…”

Daniel cuts her off just then, putting on a brave face at the rejection. He asks that she give him one more chance to truly convey his feelings towards her. For realzies this time, everyone. Should her feelings remain unchanged by then, he’ll remain as her good friend.

Our love triangle broods separately that evening, and as Daniel erases the sand drawing, he reflects upon more words he told Mi-young: “My heart towards you keeps changing. Just being a good person by your side was enough, but now I want to keep you by my side for a long time.”

After Gun leaves the breakfast table in an irritable mood the next morning, Yong informs his grandmother that he recently met Mi-young—who’s still single by the way. Next thing we know, Grandma Wang sits down with Mi-young, and it’s sweet how they’re both so happy and sorry to each other to meet now.

Grandma Wang would love it if Mi-young became part of the family again, but she also knows that it’s hard for her to face Gun after everything that’s happened. At her attempt to defend Gun’s case, Mi-young gently apologizes—her ties with Gun have ended.

Gun is watching Mi-young’s interview in his office, and is about to hear her answer about her love life when he gets interrupted by Manager Tak. He praises his chief secretary on narrowing down the remaining candidates of artists to collaborate with, although he mutters how Manager Tak did too good of a job when he doesn’t see Elle Kim/Mi-young on the list.

He says they’ll take their time before making a decision, which prompts Manager Tak to ask if the painting Gun bought recently was Mi-young’s work. Manager Tak doesn’t seem to buy his boss’s defensive answer that he simply liked the painting, and asks if he can’t just try to win Mi-young back if he hasn’t forgotten about her after all these years—to tell her that he thought wrong and that they’re destined for each other.

It’s not like his medical condition has worsened after all, Manager Tak adds. ‘s what I’m saying. But Gun says Mi-young’s living quite happily nowadays and will continue to do so, especially since she has someone by her side. “Must I… I have no reason to make her waver. I shouldn’t [rock that boat] either.”

Gun gets annoyed running through every little detail about his schedule on his way out, and shoos his secretary away. There’s a reason why today’s so important, though: it’s the anniversary when Keddongie was lost, and Manager Tak wonders if Gun will just sit “there” again.

Speaking of which, we see Mi-young sitting by the intersection where The Accident took place three years ago. She conveys her belated greetings to Keddongie, and her eyes well up with tears as she says she’s never forgotten about Keddongie because he continues to live in her heart.

After resting the memorial flowers on the sidewalk, and when she sees Gun approach the same intersection, she tells him that he needn’t come here anymore. She’ll remember Keddongie for the rest of her life, so Gun can forget it all and move on with his life.

Gun laughs at that, thinking it ridiculous—how is it okay for him to forget, but not her? Mi-young: “Because Keddongie is my child.” Gun: “He’s also my child.”

But Mi-young points out that Gun gave up on Keddongie, reminded of the (fabricated) divorce agreement and Gun’s wishes to relinquish his parental rights. Hurts when those words come back to bite, don’t they, Gun?

Calling Mi-young by her new name, Gun argues that her name change signifies a new start, which means Keddongie would laugh at her now for bringing up the past. He tries to laugh it off, but that only grates Mi-young further—whether she makes a new start or becomes a new person or however many times she lives her life over again, she’d never forget Keddongie, though Gun isn’t obligated to do the same.

After Mi-young walks off, Gun sits down by the road to share cake with Keddongie, issuing another apology to his unborn child. “I’m sorry today too, Keddong-ah.”

Mi-young texts Young-ja/Gun later that evening, which spurs another one of those wonderful talking-text conversations between them. Gun apologizes that something always comes up whenever he has to return the painting, to which Mi-young sweetly replies that the painting must want to stay with him.

She invites him to call her by name (Ellie) and informs him that she’s postponed her trip back to France. Curious, Gun starts to ask if it’s because of the proposal, only to edit himself and ask how long she’s staying instead. At the answer of “about six months,” Gun wonders to himself: “Am I supposed to be happy or have a hard time about that?”

Their split-screen convo continues in their respective beds, and he asks what she’s doing up this late. Upon hearing that there’s something on her mind, he encourages her to confide in him because it isn’t good to bottle up worries. “If you do, your heart will get bruised and you’ll age faster.”

“I thought it was a happy moment, but now that I came face to face with it, I think I lived my life putting effort into just wrapping it up as happiness,” Mi-young says. He says it must’ve been a very painful memory, and Mi-young admits it was, but it was also a very happy time.

Gun offers her some wise words (as Young-ja): “Very painful memories aren’t meant to be forgotten, but to be accepted with an empty heart.” Mi-young would love to do that, “even if it’s for that person who’s waiting for me.”

Gun swallows hard at those words and gives her some encouraging words before bidding her goodnight. “Sleep well, Ellie,” Gun talk-texts, then speaks aloud, “Sleep well, Kim Mi-young.”

Daniel peruses a new apartment, and crosses paths with Se-ra in the hallway. Both parties recognize one another, and since Daniel’s a new tenant here as of today, they exchange smirks over how this makes them neighbors now. He stops her to ask if she and Gun are still together, but Se-ra believes doesn’t consider that appropriate neighborly chit-chat.

Meanwhile, Se-ra’s mother pays a surprise visit to Gun at work, however, where she says that while Gun may have moved on and thinks he’s good friends with his ex, she’s seen her daughter return home in tears every time they’ve hung out together.

That’s news to Gun, who believes that he and Se-ra have talked everything out, but Se-ra’s mother won’t stand for her daughter being played like a fool, especially by the man who effectively ended Se-ra’s prima ballerina career.

Elsewhere, Mi-young is presented with her new studio and her upcoming projects during her extended stay in Korea. She’s surprised to see herself prospectively attached to a collaborative project with Jangin Chemicals, and asks for time to review the offer.

She takes the contract to her former boss Lawyer Hong, who believes this would be a great career opportunity. He reminds her that she has alimony to her name if she needs some business capital, but that’s a topic Mi-young chooses not to pursue anymore.

Gun is still weighing upon Se-ra’s mother’s words when Manager Tak and Yong come bearing sweets. It’s nice of them to try and lift Gun’s spirits, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually had a regular Happy Time scheduled into his workday. Do we have to worry that Gun might die sooner from Type 2 Diabetes than his family’s genetic illness?

But then Gun breaks down into fake sobs before telling them to take it all away. He’s craving something else to eat right now. Could it be Mom’s cooking?

Aw, it is, ’cause we see Gun unexpectedly turn up at Mom’s restaurant, forcing her to hurriedly hang up on Mi-young. He whines for food like a little kid, stubbornly refusing to leave until he’s been fed.

Mom wonders if something’s the matter for Gun to come by not on his usual day, and Gun says he was just hungry. She tells him to chew his food slowly then, and the two bicker back and forth as per usual. Then Gun takes Mom’s hand and starts to ask, “By any chance… did Mi… Mi…”

But then Gun backs out, calling Mom a beauty (mi-een) instead. Mom almost seems disappointed, as if she’d hoped he’d finally ask about Mi-young. Gun calls himself crazy, and heh, I don’t think anyone’s really going to argue against that.

Mom smiles while he eats, but her expression turns into surprise when Mi-young shows up like she said she would. She tries her best to hide Gun’s face (and tells him in a whisper to run, ha), but he gets caught red-handed anyway. So he blurts out, “So what? I came to eat!”

Gun and Mi-young carry on their conversation outside, where Gun is on the defensive about his visits to Mom over the years. He went there to eat—is there something so wrong with that? He doesn’t see why he needs Mi-young’s permission to see her mother, but Mi-young returns that her mother genuinely liked him.

It’ll only be hard on her mother if he keeps this up, but Gun argues that’s between Mom and himself. To that, Mi-young argues, “You shouldn’t give your heart away so carelessly if you can’t take responsibility for it.”

Gun is taken aback by those words, but he remains on the defensive. All he did was come to eat, and he doesn’t have any feelings for her. She asks if that means he isn’t at all uncomfortable when he sees her. He fires back that he doesn’t, and doesn’t see anything wrong with extending an offer to work together either.

She asks why it had to be her, which has him laughing at whether she’s acting like a hotshot artist right now. She was chosen because she’s the best for this project—how could he, as a CEO, possibly let personal feelings affect his business decisions?

That prompts her to ask if this is really all about business; he doesn’t have any other motives? He replies of course not, though he looks away. And if she walks away from the offer? Well, that’s up to her to decide.

But when Mi-young accepts that and starts to walk away, Gun points out that unless she has very good reason, the company will have to assume that she was scared and walked away.

“Why would I run away?” Mi-young returns. “What would I be afraid of?” You gotta love a feisty Mi-young. But even with that brave front, Mi-young ruminates over Gun’s words later.

In his office, Gun excitedly reviews the contract before Mi-young’s arrival, and I have to admit his hand gestures are adorable, addressing himself with two thumbs up, and Mi-young with the trademark snail hands. He’s under the belief that he’ll get to order Mi-young around (as in, to dinner) once she signs on, but Mi-young isn’t the same meek woman anymore.

In fact, Mi-young wastes no time to get down to business, and Gun breaks into hearty laughter as soon as she signs the contract. She announces that she can get started immediately, and points out that she’ll only be in contact with Manager Tak.

This isn’t really how Gun imagined this meeting would go, and he tells her that usually people go out to eat—and yunno, watch a movie or something—after making a business agreement. She says she’s not hungry.

So Gun launches into his speech about the nature of their contractual relationship, but Mi-young draws a clear boundary between them—he won’t easily find someone of her caliber. “Our snail has become really cool,” Gun smiles, impressed. “Makes me not want to send her away.”

Mi-young works diligently into the night, letting her calls go ignored. It isn’t until morning does she see an email from Manager Tak. It’s cute how he writes of his everlasting devotion to her and that she can call him whenever she has need. Aww.

Daniel arrives at the studio wearing a worried yet unsurprised expression on his face. This isn’t the first time he’s seen Mi-young throw herself into her work before, so he sits her down on the couch and asks when she last slept and ate.

He gets worried-angry that she’s overworking herself again and orders that she’s taking the afternoon off. Moreover, she’ll stay still while he sets up her new monitor. She asks that he places a few packs of post-its into the pockets.

Daniel takes Mi-young out on an outdoor picnic, complete with a homemade lunch. She’s eager to get back to the studio, though, only to be told that it isn’t good for her to be cooped up inside all day.

He honestly isn’t thrilled about how she’s working with Jangin Chemicals either, to which Mi-young says she’ll drop the project at his word. But Daniel won’t have any of that, and says she must do a good job instead. Like the workaholic she is, Mi-young sneakily sends Manager Tak another e-mail.

After Gun checks in with the groundskeeper, he takes a leisurely stroll around the gardens. He happens to spot Mi-young working, so he keeps his distance. She’s here to study the flora in person for their collaborative project, and Gun forms a picture frame with his fingers and snaps his own photos of his subject.

Gun ducks when Mi-young looks around, and he grows worried when she grows dizzy from exhaustion. She collects herself to continue working, however, unaware that Gun is hiding behind some reeds, having followed her.

When a sketch goes rogue by the wind while her back is turned, Gun runs over to retrieve it. He returns it with the others on her clipboard, but the snapping sound catches her attention. Mi-young whirls around, and Gun makes a run for it.

He makes bird sounds as cover, but that only intrigues Mi-young, who doubles back for her camera. She responds in kind to lure the bird out, so Gun makes another bird call, thoroughly amused. Pffft, is that the Woody the Woodpecker laugh?

Mi-young has caught onto the strange calls by now, but plays along. Gun rises from his hiding spot and turns to find himself face to face with Mi-young. She asks what he’s doing hiding here, and Gun denies doing anything of the sort. These gardens belong to his company and he was here because of work.

She asks why he was making bird calls then, and doesn’t buy the answer that he was bonding with nature. He was following her, wasn’t he? Gun flat out denies that too, and turns the question on her. How strange of her to be here when she should be in Seoul.

Mi-young replies that she’s here to work too, which earns her a round of applause from Gun. He scolds her for wandering around the grounds alone, but Mi-young won’t let him weasel out of this conversation that easily. She notes that he hasn’t changed one bit by not apologizing to her for scaring her, and he in turn points out that she’s changed a lot.

She requests that they keep their encounters to within the office, which is something Gun agrees with. She hopes that he’ll keep to a level of dignity in the future, and he laughs to himself that she was making bird calls too.

It suddenly rains just then, so Gun hurriedly covers her with his coat. She initially refuses, but they both acknowledge that there shouldn’t be a problem since they aren’t romantically involved at all, and so Gun shields her from the rain again.

This leads into a throwback to the movie The Classic as Gun and Mi-young run through the grounds in step with each other trying to find cover. Unfortunately that downpour turns into a heavy thunderstorm by nightfall, and they’re told that they’ll be stranded here tonight.

Ha, is Gun sending the manager encouraging and satisfied hand gestures like he tasked the man to feed her how all the roads are blocked and flooded? Gun makes a big deal out of how they have no choice but to stay the night, and looks disappointment when Mi-young says they should come up with something.

After the manager takes his leave, Gun cracks a smile over how this rain won’t stop. He asks if Mi-young’s all right and tells her to wash up thoroughly so she doesn’t catch a cold. He’s simply concerned for his contracter, he says, then he falls into Mi-young’s lap when the power suddenly goes out. Ha.

Gun lights a pair of candles and hums along to the sound of the rain. “What do you think of this music?” he finally asks. She doesn’t quite get his meaning, and he points out the rain. He shares he liked the sound of rain ever since he was young; he’d make a wish at night and fall asleep to the soothing sound.

He tells her to listen, then jokes that it sounds like grilling pork. He asks if she’s hungry, but again Mi-young says she isn’t. But at the sound of a growling stomach, Gun notes that her hunger cues haven’t changed. “That wasn’t me,” she answers.

But that growl does trigger happier memories for Mi-young, and Gun sighs that Yong would sing praises about a certain fish-eye ramyun. She replies that Gun had eaten rice with his face on it.

Gun recalls the homemade lunch now with fondness, saying how he wants to eat that too now. He calls her by Mi-young for the first time in this episode before catching himself, then saying that he’ll just call her by that name tonight.

He regales her with how rain droplets hitting the rooftop makes sounds that eventually sounds like a reassuring voice, saying, “It’s okay, it’s okay. It isn’t your fault. It’s okay now,” and a comforting pat on one’s back.

Although Mi-young has tears in her eyes, she says she has no idea what he’s talking about. She wills her exhausted body up to leave, but then slips and flicks away Gun’s hand. She insists that she’s fine, ignoring the words that the roads are blocked.

Gun sits her down so that she’ll listen to him, and that’s when he realizes that she’s running a fever. He instinctively places his hands on her cheeks, his face filled with worry. But Mi-young pulls his hands off of her, telling him not to concern himself.

But Gun grabs her wrist, refusing to let a sick person wander outside on her own. “I’d really like to decline your worries about me now, Lee Gun-sshi. We don’t mean anything to one other anymore,” Mi-young says. “Let go of me.”

So Gun lets go, but Mi-young takes two steps before he holds her back again. “You foolish woman,” he says. They hold each other’s gazes for a few more moments, and Gun leans in as if to kiss her…

COMMENTS

Of course you’d cut us off there, Fated. Oh Gun, I know how much you want to give into your feelings for Mi-young, but she’s also sick right now! Granted, Mi-young proves herself over and over again that she isn’t someone to be trifled with anymore, which has me thinking that Gun will have to work that much harder for a kiss, let alone win her heart again.

If I’m not mistaken, Gun still believes that she and Daniel are together, possibly even engaged. He didn’t stick around long enough to hear the rest of her kindhearted rejection, and we didn’t see anyone or anything to dispel Gun’s thoughts for the rest of the episode. So while I’d love for Gun and Mi-young to be together again, I also doubt that Gun would let his feelings trump his morals about pursuing a taken woman. Then again, his lips are mere inches from Mi-young’s right now.

So it rather looks like he’s losing his internal conflict between preserving Mi-young’s happiness versus his lingering feelings towards her. What’s more is that the people around him are pointing out how Gun has more reason to go after Mi-young than to not, despite his insistence that he does not have feelings for Mi-young anymore. When he clearly still does. Speaking of feelings and lingering relationships, I found myself agreeing with Mi-young and Se-ra’s controlling mother’s arguments about how Gun either has or very well could unintentionally hurt the still-attached relationships he believes are harmless. I can’t blame Gun for thinking that he and Se-ra had talked things out, and I’d also say that Se-ra is also partially responsible for keeping ties that still cause her emotional pain.

And that’s the tricky thing about the concept of jeong (affection or attachment) because those feelings make breaking those ties that much harder and more painful once they’re broken. So in the case of Mom, Mi-young knows how much her mother cared for him and vice-versa. While he may claim that he’s only visiting Mom for her cooking, Mi-young is protecting her mother and warning him of the dangers of keeping up with a relationship he cannot take responsibility for in the end.

Thus we’ve been seeing Mi-young guard her heart more than ever, especially in her interactions with Gun. I’ll admit that it’s been pretty gratifying to watch a more self-confident Mi-young standing up for herself, leaving Gun stammering in her wake. Furthermore, she’s been giving Gun what he wanted from three years ago, relieving him of any obligations to her or Keddongie. She won’t have any of Gun’s flimsy answers either, but when she does question his motives (like the collaboration project), she gives him the opportunity to admit to something more.

It’s that something more that Gun wants, seeing as he keeps falling back to their contractor/contractee relationship as an excuse to worry about Mi-young in this hour. And the thing is that Mi-young has been doing such a good job of establishing herself apart from Gun that she’ll keep insisting that she’s fine, despite pushing her body past its own limits. But not every snail can stay in its own shell forever, and we know that this Mi-young doesn’t have anything to be of afraid of now. Apart from her own heart, that is.

What happened here sounded like songs that would make excellent fortune cookie fortunes:

Sera-"Tonight Will Be Fine" but of course I prefer, "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell"

DP - "Total Recovery Is Possible"

KMY - "He Who Flattened Your Flame Is Getting Torched"

Gun - "Prove Yourself"

So much pain, bittersweet, saccharine, that to me, has reached human rights violation levels, haha.

Tell me Why is this only on Wednesdays and Thursdays?

HAHA yoadrian-- good post. i agree.

Tender moments, embarrassing moments, painful moments, bittersweet moments.

All these moments made me want to have a moment of bitch slapping everyone so they would wake up - get over it already - get out of the way already - do SOMETHING already! :)

I watched this episode TWICE without subs LOL. so by the time the subs came around, I was an emotional wreck.

These characters have become my family. Although I'm a Team Gun fan, the writers are pulling my heartstrings by making D.Pittushi (lol) a contender. TWANG goes my heart.

sigh.

Hi Awe, thanks. Glad you feel the same way.

There must be a conspiracy here because I am in love with a fictional character and I don't even feel pathetic...

Oh, well. Eternal yearning!

How awesome is grandma and Yong? I am so glad that grandma is pro-snail even after The Tragedy with Keddonggie. I really thought she might be mildly amused or indifferent to Mi Young being back, but actively seeking her out? So cute!

Q: Is FTLY 16 episodes? Just wanted to prepare for my withdrawal symptoms that's all :)

Thanks for letting me know guys!
Makes sense that it is atleast 20 episodes long like Kaitlyn said. 24 might be pushing it though (for me). They still haven't touched on the Daniel's sister storyline and I wouldn't mind the rest of the side characters getting some more screen time but more number of episodes=unwanted angst+irrelevant/illogical plots. 20 sounds good. Gives me enough time to be prepared for it when it ends.

16 episodes might have been the optimal length for this drama. It might have motivated it to shed some of its tropes and to focus more on developments. Or not.

Interesting to see that all three Wed-Thu dramas are more or less neck to neck in weekly ratings. No surprise that the mental illness drama is pulling behind.

Sooner or later, all three will bow out to usher in new and fresh dramas, if spring follows winter.

Does anyone think they could have cast a better actress for the part of Mi Young....how about Yoon Eun Hye

Yoon Eun Hye is definitely a great actress. But for me, Jang Nara as Mi Young is just perfect. Especially her voice.

I agree that Jang Nara is perfect in this role - she's more sweet and innocent looking than Yoon Eun Hye (whom I also love), and I think it fits this role better. Funny thing is, I just finished watching Jang Nara in School 2013 before staring this show, but it took me 7 episodes to recognize her in FTLY! She really immerses herself in whatever role she is playing.

Now, as much as i LOVE this drama, it's just starting to feel real draggy to me..
YES or NO Gunnie-sshi!!? At times you're conflicted and at times you're going all out to get her. Make up your mind already and tell her!! I seriously hope we get to see them together happily rather than all this 'pain'
Happily married.. happily laughing(Yes, THAT crazy laugh)... hopefully with Mi Young preggers again :)

Don't really wanna compare the original to this but the beginning if the original drag and after the time skip it really pick up with the romance..but this is reversing the trend with how it was quick for them to realize their feelings but now we are goin through the whole notion of nobility and not liking u when I really love u..I rather the show pick up on the pace..side characters are really losing ground too..Their existence seems to matter even less then before..not that I'm really complaining but I would want to see mi young best friend again..sera had one line..Daniel was hardly a factor which has me neither rooting for or against him..If they keep this pace with the side characters then I eventually start skipping their whole scenes cause they haven't added to the plot

I actually think it's being paced well. The only issue is we are so impatient cos we want our Gunnie and MY together. But if one logically steps back and looks at it, it only makes sense for MY to want to protect herself from further hurt.

I agree with you Panda! I feel like the pacing is so right. The key thing is in making their getting back together believable.

Gunnie is so all over the place right now, he is totally making all the wrong moves. Which is hurting MY even more. I think next episode will bring about something to trigger that resolve in him so he finally takes things in his hands and behaves in a manner more dignified. He was the one who wanted to let go of her first, and now he's trampling all over her, as if she were the one who broke up with him. I want uri Gunnie to come to his senses soon!

LOL, I think we ALL want Gunnie to come to his senses soon that's why people are so pissed off.

TBH, the writers spoilt us in in the first half of the show. i mean, even I world class cynic fell for Gunnie shi :)

I get that it's a 20 episode drama though, so i give them a leeway of one more ep of angst.

Writers, by next week GET OUR SNAIL COUPLE TOGETHER!!!!!!! LOL

I think the overall pacing is good; it's how the story is unfolding that makes the pacing seem slow.

For example, the garden scene could've been cut shorter (to reduce the 'stalking' feeling) and given to the mom/Gun scene. I just love them together. Whenever they share a scene bickering back and forth, it goes by way too quickly.

I'm okay with the way MY and Gun's relationship is developing. His indecisiveness and inner conflict isn't just because of love or nobility. He needs a LOT more than just love to overcome the pain, tragedy and misunderstanding of three years ago. He needs to EARN it. As MY said, “You shouldn’t give your heart away so carelessly if you can’t take responsibility for it.”

And I just love Jang Hyuk! Not only is he aging beautifully, but he has become such a skilled and nuanced actor.

I thought maybe I was the only one that found this episode much more draggy than previous ones - guess not. I get that Gun (or both) are indecisive, but think there was a bit too much. Hopeufully today's episode things will pick up again.

I was so afraid that Mi Young would say 'yes' to D-Pitt because of guilt; I'm so glad she stuck to her honest self and didn't lead him on! Gun, on the other hand...hrmph.

And dayum, I thought Jang Hyuk couldn't get any more handsome, but then he goes and busts out that newsboy cap. SWOON.

I love that cap! That whole outfit made him look like Sherlock Holmes, which would be great if he had the detective smarts to go with it. He needs to start putting pieces together so he can get on with correcting the misunderstandings.

SIGH.... Even though these two had a false start, they really became a couple and would have been great parents to the baby. There will be no one besides them know the (same)pain of losing ( their) child. In the perfect world, without the fake divorce paper, they would grieve together and perhaps build a life together.
For that particular scene, I have cried 3 times( my tear ducts have bad memory!) If only MYsshi knows how much Gunnie loves / misses her and keddonggie...Well, that's how good PDnim is...taking all of our hearts and just wrenching it a little bit as we yell into our iPad/monitor" No, MYsshi, Gunnie is NOT a jerk!" and tears rolling down our cheeks as he yearns for his keddonggie in his man cave.... Seems Lee Gun's hairgel is directly proportional to the amount of resistance he has against Mi Young. XD

At least now we have justification for his horrid hairstyle mid-series lol.

They still have a lot of issue to wrap up. Mi Young the sister, Se Ra relationship with her mom (she seem to care more about her daughter than in the tw version which is great), m. tak and mi young sister, ... To bad they didn't have time to develop side story. I hope it will end well.

Thanks @gummimochi for another well-written episode recap. This episode left me a little sad despite the cliffhanger - all because of the OTP's seemingly prolonged misunderstandings and separation...Their argument at the scene of The Accident is heartbreaking. While I acknowledge MY's right to say those words to Gun, and the fact she does not know the complete truth, it still sounds cruel to prohibit Gun from remembering their child, especially after we've seen Gun in previous episodes and in this episode continuing to cherish anything and anyone about their child. Equally sad, I thought, is whenever Gun reflected on MY's words, he'd show hurt feelings and at the same time express admiration of MY's new found confidence. Good job, Jang Hyuk!

I wonder if Secretary Tak's knowledge of the painting would lead to anything. I wish he'd tell MY. At the moment, MY is staying strong in distancing herself from Gun. It appears nothing can soften and move her heart towards Gun again. Where's the love? Next episode, do you have the answer, please?

I totally agree with you how much our MYsshi has changed. The tragedy has toughed up our once sweet MYsshi( like Gunnie, I like her as Mi Young and not Ellie). Everyone in the dramaverse, besides MYsshi, know that she still has feeling for Gun. But, she's hurt and thus she lashes out to him. In a way, MYsshi has to do so to protect herself; due to the misunderstanding( no thanks to Sera!!!) , it would be foolish for her to still care about Gun. MYsshi is trying to purge the past and " rebuild" a new life. Yes, hurtful words were spewed out by both Gun and MYsshi, but neither of them means it. They are just trying to protect themselves and each other( esp Gun- thinking that he has no rights to impede MYsshi's path to happiness).
YUP, we all just have to be patient as the Drama God untangles this fate/ love....we know the ending( more or less), but I will continue to watch this unfold...crying and LOLing along the way. * note to self- need more Kleenex :'(

I'm with you on Daniel. Though we're clearly in the minority. Daniel is sincere, caring, respectful. I just wish the romantic chemistry were there. The writers could make him more swoon worthy rather than merely a nice guy/brother/best friend type.

I find Gun's character annoying. He may love her, but he's excited in anticipation of the contract being signed that he will be, in his terms, "above her" and she will be below him so he can use his power to obligate her to dinner and a movie? Sorry, no. What kind of partnership is that? And I really don't like him lying to her as his female alter ego in order to text-talk to her. So manipulative.

Uhm, I think you are in the minority regarding Daniel. I don't support him nor want him with MY.
He knows that she doesn't have those feelings for him. I mean, in 2 yrs he couldn't me her feel what Gunnie made her feel in less than 3 months......
He's definitely not the one for her and I am sure he knows it. The sooner he stops trying to force it,the better for him

It goes beyond "accepting women for their looks". There is a point in either direction where it becomes downright unhealthy. Though Korea has not reached the point where things like anorexia is a real issue yet, quite a few Korean doctors say that many women are "under eating". The reason, apparently is that many high-fashion clothes are only available in a size 4 - any bigger and you are out of luck.

Of course there are some women who starve/do extreme things to get a super skinny look, but tonnes of women (especially Asians - Chinese/korean/japanese) are just naturally skinny... and it's not nice to call them sticks, just as it's not nice to call bigger sized women hippos.

So don't skinny-shame and make it seem like a better thing than fat-shaming.

Thanks for the recap. I kept refreshing so I gave up and came back an hour later, and here we are! YAY!

I can take a throwback to THE CLASSIC anytime-FTLY, Running Man (Gary and Minah)! That DELISPICE song! That's one of my favorite songs, ever!

This episode did seem draggy and especially when I watched it with only 42% subs done at viki.com, but I'm happy. It was a super long week, much longer than waiting for episode 11 and 12. I think since I waited so long and when it did air, it was sort of slow, I lost the excited steam I had waiting for this week's episode.

I'm so excited about tomorrow's episode, though...then ANOTHER LONG WEEK..

These are my thoughts for what might come next and I'm scared. lol

I think Gun might feel guilty about still have a lingering relationship with Sera and thinking Miyoung is engaged, they writers might go the Taiwanese route and have Gun be engaged with Sera. Then he can officially find out that Sera gave Miyoung a fake divorce agreement and officially break up with Sera.

That plan seems rather bland and Imconsistant..In the original it was much worse with sera character did and during the time skip her and the lead her officially together and engaged..to throw gun into a relationship with sera now and have him find out about the fake divorce seems forced and I don't see gun committing to something like that..plus the fake divorce papers from sera seem rather weak to me..I wish it had more or a stronger motive to it but then having gun say he would give u l the rights for the baby only enforced sera plan..In the original the lead never said he wanted to give uo the baby but the female lead assume only

Poor Gunnie...he's half the man he used to be now in terms of his relationship with Mi Young. Kinda of like a role reversal, him being at the receiving end instead of the confident leader.

Mi Young on the other hand has 'woman-up'. I like that she still says it straight even though with a bit more grit and she doesn't make excuses for Lee Gun anymore by coating things over and painting a nicer picture than it is. Way to go, girl!

Whereby the Lee Gun now keeps running away, still holding on to his noble idiocy. I understand where he's coming from but it's time to decide. His wishy-washiness is getting tiring. Make up your mind. Mi Young is right. If he cannot take on the responsibility of the relationships he wants and creates, then it's only fair he lets them go.

I still think they are meant for each other and when he really choose to get her back, I want to see him do some major crawling after all that he had put her through. Lee Gun, start crawling and get your snail back pronto, will ya?!

As for Daniel. If he can't get the girl after three years, his time is up. Though his proposal was amazing and he has helped Mi Young through hard times but...sorry mate! Continue to be the nice neighbourhood oppa...or not.

This show TERRIFIES me. On one hand, I really like how they are going slow with Act-2 of the story instead of just having Gun chase Mi-young around without rhyme or reason, and on the other, I'm scared the characters will not get proper closure at the end. Argh. Why do I love you so, FTLY?

I might be in a minority here, but I like how they are taking their sweet time to show the constant conflict Gun is facing. Because otherwise the whole point of what he did three years ago is lost- he let her go so she could move on and be happy without his disease holding her back, and his fear still holds him back to this day, although you can see his resistance is rapidly melting down. I especially love how the writers have subtly inverted the dynamics of their relationship in this part- this time he's the one trying to be noble and keep her happy with someone else, while she is the one laying down the terms for their relationship and trying to draw boundaries for him in her life- her child, her mother, her illness. It's certainly satisfying to see Gun on the receiving end of someone else's decisions for once.

Daniel lost me this episode. Just, what does he hope to get by waiting around forever? I thought they were already sorta dating, or did I miss something in translation? Everybody's hung up on everybody in this show. Sad.

& coming to sadness, I could do without those constant reminders of Le Accident. Watching it once was bad enough, so while I understand why we need to see this (and weep for both for them and the life which could-have-been), I still reserve the right to grouse about it- it hurts, dammit.

LOL at the cuckoo-dance though. And the hiding-avoiding at her mother's restaurant, with his mouth half-full and a grain of rice on his cheek. I've no idea how Mi-young manages to keep a straight face at Gunnie's sheer adorableness- he's just too friggin' cute to stay angry at (God knows I've tried).

Still refuse to speculate about future plot-lines. Though a few kisses here and there would be very much welcome. Sigh. I miss the love. There, I said it. :-(

Boxed-in! So I watched this episode raw and that pretty much sums up my reaction as well. I'm actually so heartbroken...at what? At Gunnie and Mi-young's prolonged heartbreak. It's just so painful watching these two brush past each other again and again, grazing old wounds. And Gun just bumbling about like a totally lost man. He has become so pathetic - he even looks like a really old man in this episode - and my heart keeps breaking for him.

Having said that, I do feel like the show's done right by their past. And even though this is sad, this is sweetly sad, and rightfully sad. A baby died. We weeped and mourned. We're still wounded. It only makes sense to have both parents still grieve. Squatting on the street, plucking and eating strawberries from a cake meant for your dead child takes things to a whole new level of sadness. But it feels legitimate. And for that I'm really thankful.

I absolutely agree with you Boxed-in, on Gunnie getting a taste of his own medicine. About being at the butt-end of other people's decisions. Although I took the last scene to be quite a literal contrast to his noble idiocy. I mean, look at him trying to shoo her away because he doesn't want her to cope with his Huntington's. And yet, look at his sense of entitlement over her suffering when she's just gotten a fever. He cannot hold onto any facade and the care he thinks she deserves come spilling out of him. And yet, he will deny Mi-young her right to dote over him, care for him when he's got the bigger illness. Yes, I'm waving my big, blamey finger at you Gunnie-shi. You are and always will be Oppa Love for me, but I think you need a time-out, for a bit of self-reflection, you know. If you're going to call Mi-young a foolish woman for being cold and rejecting his tenderness when he thinks she really needs it - well, who's the bigger fool, you know? Look at him being so dismissive of what he thinks is unreasonable behaviour of someone unwell...

Also, Gunnie is becoming such a sad deflated balloon. Both of them actually. She needs more meat between her bones and skin, and he needs to...just smile more often to give me some peace of mind. My heart sinks to watch them on screen. It might also be because they're both so overworked and look absolutely tired. I want my old Gunnie back. This heart needs some healing.

Aww Jhu! Chin up ya, it will get better. They need to let all of this pain out now, before getting back together. True, the actors look tired, and the zany energy of the earlier episodes is missing. It's just that this show has given us such insanely happy moments, taken us to such incredible highs, that now this all-pervading sadness seems unbearable. And that's the FTLY-magic. I wouldn't have it any other way, really.

Word on that last scene. I deliberately did not comment on it because I'm waiting to see how it plays out in today's episode, but I felt the exact same things you mentioned. This whole episode, in fact, was some well-earned payback for Gun, and though my heart breaks for him, I have to say he has earned every bit of that suffering and rejection he's getting now. And if anyone's the fool in that room, it's him. His major flaw has always been to ride roughshod over everyone else and take decisions on his own, and though his intentions might have been noble, he's now got to learn that love and relationships simply don't work that way. & that lesson's very, very painful, unfortunately for him, and for us. So yes, he does need to reflect on his decisions and choices; it's high time. Whatever he's been doing till now after meeting her again has been pretty impulsive- following her around, lying about the painting, getting her to sign that contract- but now he should take a stand. Lets' just hope our Happy Hour is near- we desperately need it.

Again, you really should watch it with subtitles. Their conversations are so subtle and nuanced that you would just miss the whole point otherwise.

I enjoy how much of a social k-drama watcher FTLY has made me. Watching the show is half the fun, and then coming here and being part of all THIS with all of you. That makes it truly special.

0

Boxed-in, am finally done with the epi, with subs and all.

And again, sprinkled with so many beautiful little moments.

This isn't in response to what you have said as much as Gummi's response to Gun's relationship with Mi-young's mother. To be honest, I'm actually a little surprised the Show decided to pick on their relationship considering they had built up a Gun-Mi-young's-mother relationship independent of Mi-young. That was sealed way back in that karaoke-wedding episode when she held his cheeks in her palms and called him her son? And he'd kept mumbling Omma like he'd hit his shins on a treasure chest full of diamonds.

Clearly, he needs Omma regardless of whether Mi-young is part of the picture or not. And I feel like he has taken responsibility of her (mother, not Mi-young) in the past few years. The irony of it all is that it's been Mi-young who's been away for so long. So she's actually clueless about the kind of space they've come to acquire in each other's lives. They're actively relating and I think and hope and pray she'll come to see how valuable they are to each other.

Somebody a few comments down below said that that scene where Omma gives him water makes him look 3 years old. And I was like, aha! But that's exactly how old a son he is to her. And well, he was offered candy before he got to her. And he came looking for something that would warm his heart.

Theirs has always been a mother-son relationship. Never a mother and son-in-law relationship.

That way, I love how, while some of the minor characters are getting side-lined, those who really matter in the story for the leads are still given screen time and I love them more with each passing minute. Secretary Tak. The few seconds of Yong (did you see him preempt Gunnie's rice-littered-face at the breakfast table?). Omma. Grandma. They will always be memorable characters.

Umm...as far as Daniel is concerned...I'm still dumbfounded. In which universe is it okay to say you'll date the woman who JUST rejected your proposal? Whatever. I'm just glad Mi-young facepalmed him with her honesty. I love my snails, but this man's a total leech. Let's sideline him to the very margins of our story. You and Sister Sera can live there happily ever after.

There was so much sadness in this episode, really. Every laugh had a touch of pain. Every attempt at humor was coated with sorrow. It made for a very poignant watch. This show, such an intoxicating concoction it is.

We'll miss it real bad when it's over, won't we Boxed-in?

*sob* Don't remind me. I'm actually pretty new to K-dramas, and FTLY is the first one I've watched while it's airing. & that is something I both cherish and dread, because it's the first time in a long while that I've been so head over heels over a show. It brought me out of my lurking phase on DB too, so *high five* to that, Panda.

I see a lot of Dokko Jin love in the comments here. Maybe I'll start watching that show to cope. But there's still time for all that. For now I just need these two to be happy again. My emotional investment in these two wonderful characters is...staggering. Scary, actually.

Jhu, while I agree with what you said about the beautiful relationship between Gun and Miyoung's mother, I really hope we get to see one heartfelt conversation between mother and daughter too. The episode where her pregnancy is discovered and dealt with is still fresh in my mind, and I've loved her mother since then. I like what they are doing with the secretary/friend and the younger brother too. Let's hope we get to caring some more about the second leads by the time this is over. Coz I really like both the actors and don't want the whole set-up to just go to waste.

That spell he whipped up and the 'talisman' he pasted on Manager Tak is just hilarious.

I feel that we are a little bit in a rut now. Gun is dithering so slowly on the ifs and hows of approaching MY that I'm getting a bit bored. Previously the show was quite good at introducing challenges and working to overcome them.

What I am glad for is that MY is finally beginning to see that Gun is actually pretty sentimental. Although her expressions don't show it yet, at least the case is slowly building up that he does treasure everything about their time together - Geddong, and her mom.

After much urge from friends to watch this, I decided to give this a go yesterday. I'm now up to episode 9, despite reading the recaps here. I have to say that Jang Nara does an excellent job at portraying Mi Young and the writer did a great job at her character development. I usually hate weak heroine but I really love Mi Young. Seriously, whenever Mi Young is hurt and she's in tears, I can feel her pain and I even shed some tears for her. When she laughs, I giggle w/ her as well. As for the original version, as much as I love the actress who played her, I hated her character. She was too naive and weak.

Jang Hyuk is also excellent as Gun. I am in love w/ his laugh, which echos Dokko Jin (love Dokko Jin, especially his panty moment). Lol. I mean, whenever he laughs at w/e scene, it just made everything light yet heartfelt. Gun may seem strange at times but he is such a gentleman and a sweetheart. He always pushes Mi Young to stay strong and positive. He may yell at her but he still protects her. :)

I really hope they end up w/ a baby at the end. I think that would make this drama super sweet.

Mi-Young if only you knew who is loving you through your pain, yes, it is Lee Gun. He is caring for her, not himself, through what he advises her to do. Mi-Young accepts his advice instinctively, because she can tell there is sincerity in (his) her unni's...whoeever words. As a father of a daughter ... I really love this new stronger version of My-Young. She strong, self assured and yet still very true to her previous self. It's not that she's gotten more aggressive or assertive ... she hasn't really "changed" ...

She and CSY have really brought us some very strong and very loveable female leads.

The show has done this transformation very well ... it's a hard thing to do for sure ... it's easy to thing "assertive" and end up "bitchy" ... or just end up "wishy-washy" ...

Plot point ... I noticed that they made it a point to bring up the fake divorce agreement ...

I love the new MY. At first I thought she was being a giant bitch - partly bc I am so bowled over by Jang Hyuk's charms + hotness - but when you look at what she knows, and take out what the viewers know, you realize she is acting and reacting like an actual person would. That's what I love about her, that she's so 3-D and realistic. The old MY was adorable, but a little too saintly. This one is more banged-up, more flawed, trying to hide her vulnerability to Gun and her hurt under a totally understandable shell.

I love watching the process of watching her shell crack, even if the anticipation is killing me.

Daniel + Sera.... go away now. WHO. CARES.

I have to say that the scene at the restaurant, when MY comes in and umma grabs Gun and gives him water like he's 3... I died laughing. It's my 2nd favorite comedic scene in the whole drama after the wedding/karaoke scene. I don't know how Jang Nara didn't laugh her ass off filming, what with Gun with his cheek full of food and rice on his face.

Same here. Guys, I don't know if she's changed or gotten any stronger or more assertive. Taking on the job with Jang In just to show that she's not a coward and is unaffected, when that isn't entirely true, well that takes her right down Gun's path. Although he has been in more denial and made stupid things come of that, clearly.

She just looks really really sad. It's like being face to face with Gun is sucking whatever little joy was left in her life. And she's just so sad and miserable and everything she says or does reflects that. I want to give Gun a sock in the face for that.

She's so sad. And when she will be happy again, she'll go right back to being her old self again, I know it. I miss the old her a lot in this. I'll point out again, she's the strongest when she's happy and sincere and pure and innocent, the way she radiates that goodness into the lives of others. Can't take her, of all people, with these street shuttered eyes.

Lurve lurve lurve it that Daniel is upping his game.

And loving it even more, that MY is the sane one, while Gun, is part pining away, part trying to act cool ... oh you big boy... u're just a teenager in love!

gosh. me bet, before he kisses her, she turns away, else she faints from the fever :p

it'd be funny if Daniel turns up to save the damsel .. heh ~

ps: Manager Tak, you're really the best !

I love this episode.

Its a pensive Gun who now needs to face the consequences of his actions then and now as it has implications into the future...

Their combined grief over kaedong ... could have sworn i heard hearts breaking into a million pieces...

I'm not sure I buy into Daniel's character... You went away, sure that you want to be more than a neighbourhood oppa... but this ep, i find out that she doesnt see you that way ... is this a serious mis-comm or what? ???? I'm confused.

the handholding in the car... the 'do you think i'd waste our first kiss in public' ... the proposal... and this ep, I declare to you, I'm now appearing as a man in front of you..

Sera... sera ... sera .... ~ he has no place in his heart for you ... which part of that did you miss? or did you read that as 'i still have a chance cos I am the only one he has'...

MY ~ you did swell. love how you dissed him ;) that said... you also shouldnt string Daniel along by sharing your heart and your life that way you'know...

tmr ... me thinks .. .no kiss, either she turns away, she faints from hunger / fever ... or else Daniel does a damsel in distress thingy... :P

The turning point ....

Here's my prediction for when and where it will happen ...

For whatever reason, My-Young will find herself in Gun's house ... and for whatever reason, will find herself in his converted ManCave and see all of the things he's kept and obviously cherished ...

I don't think it will be the point where she will suddenly turn around and run to him, but it will bring forward to her that he's always cared ... and that he's always loved the baby ... and it will make her question some of the things she's determined to be "facts" in her mind.

This drama is slow, but in a fantastic way. There are so many scenes that just pulls you in, and you actually feel Gun's or Mi Young's love, joy, pain, angst, longing, loneliness, sorrow and on and on. So well written, directed and acted. I love how each character has their own flaws and integrity. So human

Daniel. What. a. prince. While I honestly don't know what going after her like a "real man" exactly implies, I will continue to trust in the judgement of this beautiful, considerate human being and assume that he'll leave her alone once she's entirely certain of her feelings. If not, I'll be severely disappointed, like, REALLY disappointed. And did you guys see all that yummy looking food he prepared? Simply a perfect guy. And even if he's not the right one for our darling Mi-young, she sure as hell has found a great, supporting friend for life in him and I'm happy for them both, even though I'd like to spare Daniel the inevitable heartbreak. (Why did you have to fall for her in the first place? The game was lost right from the start, friend.)

Honestly, I was mostly dissatisfied with Gun's behavior during this episode. Not long ago, I disliked Daniel based on the false impression of him trying to insert himself unbidden into Mi-young's life and now it's quite the same case with Gun here, except that Mi-young has told him several times now explicitly to back off. You might say: "This is of course not how she really feels, they are *fated* to be together! Hint, hint." While that's obviously true, for a show that's titled "Fated to Love You", Gun nowadays sure has a lot of manipulating to do to rekindle their relationship, hasn't he?

What I would really like to see more of: them bumping into each other at the most ridiculous of moments -- like the hotel door mix-up -- and sharing more of these "fated", small, meaningful moments without any or at least way less previous Gun intervention/scheming, thus building new rapport, trust, and understanding. Because that's the best basis for love, isn't it? Not constant lies, deceit, and misunderstandings. The show still has a lot of great character moments (Gun's rain talk at the end of the episode, Manager Tak, Gun and Mom, Mi-young and Grandma, I even enjoyed the small Daniel and Se-ra bit we got!), but for me, right now, it's lacking a bit of the usual sweetness and spark at its core. The core being, of course, our OTP of Mi-young and Gun. I want you back, guys, but not like this.

I really hope we're soon over this stage in their story.

Initially, i felt the episode is so slow as the episode unfolds i think it is just at the right paced. You cannot really hurry up people's feeling to recover and be up and about from the loss and pain they have suffered.

In psychology, there is a process of going thru loss -- feeling the pain to state of denial to finding acceptance then recovery. Our OTPs are in the state of denial. They are both deflecting their true feelings for each other. MY putting a brave face and shooting those "wake-up" message to Gun. And Gun, continuously denying his feeling towards MY and just laughing out the pain. They need a couples therapy. :) You cannot really speed up the process of recovery but we have only 4 eps, we need little bit of forward motion, hopefully beautifully done.

I like their conversation when they were trapped in the rain. Gun starting to hint up his true self and feeling when he talk about his childhood experience about the rain then saying how the rain sound provides of comfort. MY just shut him up by saying, "i don;t know what you are talking about." --- classic denial behavior. Anyways, i don;t want to predict what might happen, i trust the writers to create a beautiful scene when they finally moves toward accepting each other again. :) Cannot wait for this moment to come.

As they go thru his process of loss to recovery, we continuously fall in love with our OTPs and Fated that is putting unexpected madness in our lives.

After reading all of your comments, I can see more why the writers have decided to pace the drama the way they have. I was getting somewhat frustrated with Gun and his, "I don't like you -- I swear!" even though he clearly does still love MY. I get super annoyed at his straight out LYING, since it just reminds me of how he lied to MY about never loving her to "protect" her from his disease. And the fact that he keeps falling back to the contract-contractee relationship as a basis of them interacting -- have you not learned ANYTHING from 3 years ago, the way you hurt MY then???

Anyway, I guess this makes sense that he's still fumbling and wishy-washy and just making a mess. It does show that the decision and conflict he had 3 years ago is still present to a certain extent. And I love how honest MY is, with Daniel, to Gun, and to everyone. She's still the lovely, sincere MY, more strong and decisive now. I like that she's drawing clear boundaries.

I loved the botanical garden scenes -- so beautiful, the colors, framing, cinematography.

Lastly, I was missing the long-haired Gun, but after three episodes of his new hairdo I am firmly in the short-haired Gun camp. So handsome, how is it possible?! :)

I'm confused by this episode.

I watched it, I tried to get into it, but it was a little sloppy and not very well done.

Transition episodes are difficult, because you know where you are trying to go but you still have to get there first.

This is a transition episode because there needed to be reasons why:

A. Sera and DPitt are in close physical proximity, to get us to what we all suspect to be true - that Sera is DPitt's long lost younger sister.

B. MiYoung and Gunnie are in close physical proximity, to get us to what we all hope to be true - that MiYoung and Gunnie get back to OTP-ing.

But to get us to Point A, it's such a lazy plot line to say "oh, just put them as next door neighbors."

And to get us to Point B, it's such a lazy plot line to use a rain storm and fainting to get us there.

For 10 episodes, the writers did such a tight job, but then they sort of lost their way. Remake or no, they got lost on their way to the last Act.

I love the Classic (movie), and I was tickled to see it thrown out there. On the other hand, constantly (but merely) throwing in Korean cultural references doesn't Korean-ify this drama.

For the first time for this drama, I'm not clock watching to see how long until I can watch the next drama.

hi samsooki

I am a really good lurker :) and i have always been interested in your comments.

Regarding this episode though, i have to disagree a bit. How do you feel the writers have failed?
I am still really enjoying the drama, a little tired of the angst but i do get why we have to have it.................

Failed? Not sure about failure. Everything is a matter of degree. Failure seems to be more of a conclusion than a description.

Sloppy and a bit lazy is my description.

Stories follow arcs and at this point in the arcs we are reaching transitory stages where characters are moving. These are difficult points to write because things / people need reasons to move.

What happened on this episode to engender the transitions?

Anyway. Justy opinion.

:)

I am guessing that the writers painted themselves into a corner with Se Ra and Daniel since they deviated from the TW version. No real reason for those 2 to be seeing each other again so they just made them neighbors to make it easier? As far as Gun and MY... the prolonged noble idiocy is starting to get to me.

For the first time in a very long time, I couldn't make the time to watch live and so popped over here to have a look at the number of comments (never the recaps before viewing though, tis sacrilegious) as it seems to be a fairly accurate barometer of the quality of the episode.

I was surprised to see less than 100 comments, but upon viewing, I can kind of understand why.

This episode seems to be the first part of an episode split into two parts. I was fortunate enough to watch this one just before episode 16, and OMG the feels.

The two episodes put together have just floored me with their depth of emotion, wonderful acting and even really good directing/editing. But I can understand how episode 15 seen just by itself might feel a bit narratively lazy and sloppy.

In a way this episode reminds me of that two part episode (that was shown over 2 consecutive hours, if I remember correctly) in ‘The King 2 Hearts’ when that thing happened that was kind of spoiled by the title.

Anyway, it’s a testament to how great this drama is that I cannot help but de-lurk to squee and defend.

And of course, thanks as always for the recap and for providing us with a place to congregate and chat about the drama.

Just out of curiosity, how is it that MY never has a heart-to-heart talk, or spending time with her Mom since her discovering of Gun-Mom relationship?.

At this point, I am so eager to indulge in anything heart-warming after so many heart-breaking moments that I'd wish to hear what Mom feels witnessing the pain and loneliness in her son, Gun in all these years. That ought open MY's heart and shed some light into this awful sadness.

I feel so much for Gun. Granted, he is digging his own grave, but he has always been the one protecting, giving up so much of his own happiness for someone else's sake, from losing his love of 6-year, to giving up his Keddongie, to ultimately letting go the love of his life, MY. Be it noble idiocy or pragmatic altruism, he choses to sacrifice so much of his own only to become a lonely fool to his love. That's why to her, he "is not taking responsibility for giving his heart away so carelessly"...Awwww the pain...the pain...When is it going to end?...
I want them to be happy, bed scenes and pregnant before the end of the drama!
