Healer secures cast, KBS reshuffles fall/winter lineup

KBS seems to have gotten its ducks in a row now, after the maybe-casting and maybe-programming rounds for fall/winter dramas Healer and The King’s Face. The Wednesday-Thursday slot following Iron Man (which comes after Joseon Gunman) will go to The King’s Face, the fusion sageuk adaptation of The Face Reader that’s currently courting Sohn Ye-jin to star. That leaves writer Song Ji-nah’s new drama Healer, which will be pushed to December, to air on Mondays and Tuesdays following Nodame Cantabile.

It’s interesting that Healer is getting the latest timeslot when it already has a cast (Is anyone else worried about Iron Man?) but I’m sure they know what they’re doing. Park Min-young (A New Leaf) and Ji Chang-wook (Empress Ki) have confirmed that they’ll be starring alongside Yoo Ji-tae (Midnight FM, A Star’s Lover) in Healer, a romantic comedy thriller about reporters and an intergenerational secret that binds everyone together.

The title is Ji Chang-wook’s codename in the drama — he plays a mysterious errand boy who goes by the name Healer, and all we’re told is that he’s armed with state-of-the-art equipment, and “doesn’t ever leave a trace.” Well that sounds nefarious. That’s not the kind of errand work you advertise in the local paper, I think.

Park Min-young plays an entertainment news reporter who dreams of writing hard-hitting news someday, but can’t manage to break out of her B-list assignments. Yoo Ji-tae plays a star reporter who harbors a crucial secret, and the three characters end up twisted up in each other’s lives. Ji Chang-wook eventually gives up his lifelong dream to live on a deserted island in the South Pacific, and somehow ends up a reporter working to uncover this deep secret while finding love along the way. Writing is Song Ji-nah (Faith, Story of a Man, Legend) and directing is Lee Jung-seob (Baker King Kim Tak-gu, Man of Honor).

Healer follows Nodame Cantabile in December.

Glad they secured this cast for Healer! I am sure it's not necessary a bad thing they pushed back the release date; in the mean time there's King's Face and Nodame- yeeey.

Iron Man who? :o

Uggh. When I read "KBS reshuffles fall/winter line-up" I smiled so damn wide and was so happy... all that to see Iron Man will still be broadcast after Joseon Gunman and that KBS (aka K bullshit) decides to push the only drama with a secured cast. They should just cancel Iron Man, it's obvious no one except Shin Se Kyung wants to star in this trainwreck.

In this situation, I wonder what Anthony will do.

I didn't even know what Iron Man was until a few days ago, they're very behind in everything right now when it's suppose to start in September.

Well, considering Iron Man courted Ji Sung first and he refused to do it and then they came to this unpopular actor: Park Shin-yang and even him didn't want to play the main character, it seems pretty bad. Let's not forget only Shin Se Kyung accepted a role and just by looking at her previous works, we can see she can't pick a good drama to save her life (Fashion King, When A Man Loves). Besides, the PD of this drama did Sword and Flower, the dreadful Sword and Flower. All of these elements are huge red flags for me. Also the plot don't even make sense.

Ji Chang-wook is the Healer? Awesome! too bad the leading lady is not another A list actress like Ha Ji-won.

Why push back the only drama with an actual cast? Idek what Iron Man is about, but the fact that it only has one person actually cast is just odd. Doesn't it start a week before My Spring Day which just finalized it's main cast with Jang Shin Young replacing Yang Jin Sung. KBS is just a mess right now.

I'm looking forward to this for Ji Chang Wook, but can't say I'm a fan of Park Min Young's acting. I was really hoping she would improve during A New Leaf since she had a great co-star, but they didn't really give her a chance to shine.

Yeah, her character is underdeveloped in A New Leaf and kinda forgotten in the second half of the drama. But at least Park Min Young is likeable and better than many bad actresses.

when a character is forgotten it means somethings up with the actor's portrayal.

When I first read JCW's character description, it sounds like James Bond with state-of-the-art equipment and "doesn't leave trail behind" but instead working as secret agent he works as reporter. Isn't that interesting?

I also confused as to why KBS push Healer when it secures all 3 leads and and with good writer and PD. But a source said JCW will act in a musical on October so maybe that's why it's given December broadcast to give JCW time to act in musical first.

It has nothing to do with JCW's upcoming appearance in "The Days," since he can appear in that musical and film the drama at the same time. Korean musicals have a 'rotating cast' system, where two or three different actors/actresses circulate in the same role throughout the run. He is one of three actors in the Muyeong role that will rotate in and out of the performances, which means he will not be on stage night after night. So Wookie's few appearances throughout the run will not cause a conflict with the filming of "Healer" at all.

Gosh', KBS should really be worried about Iron Man. My Spring Days has been filming for weeks now even with the replacement of Yang Jin Sung by Jang Shin Young so I don't understand what's taking IM so long to finish their casting. No one wants to star in the drama or what ?

I really agree with this blogger words:

Back to PMY. Don’t know what role she’ll be playing but lemme guess…a enthusiastic junior reporter to Yoo Ji Tae’s senior reporter who somehow brings out the warmth and humanity in him by contradicting his every word and action? I was fervently hoping his co-star would be someone in the realm of Son Ye Jin, Soo Ae, Kim Ha Neul, Han Hye Jin or Shin Min Ah. Someone more mature, more solid. Someone with a bit more oomph. Someone less fluffy. SIGH. I’m actually beyond disappointed. I have nothing against PMY but I feel nothing for her. Compared to how much I love Yoo Ji Tae. And why do I have a feeling her character will be bubbly, hardworking and cutesy?

SIGH. That’s all I can say for now. SIGH.

I wonder why ppl say she is likeable. There are so many ppl I know who really dislike her. I really pity the male actors with her. I dislike her acting and her fairness.

Why is PMY in this?!
I actually wanted to watch this drama. Seems really different to the dramas we've been getting recently.
*sigh* well I suppose there'll be loads of pretty to look at if the drama fails to deliver.

Park Min Young is a good choice for the lead actress.. I saw her dramas and I know she can portray her character in Healer perfectly.. She won't be given numerous acting awards if she is not good at he craft... (just sayin) ^_^
