Bae Doo-na returns to Seoul to film Netflix show Sense8

The Wachowskis (of The Matrix trilogy, Speed Racer, and Cloud Atlas) are behind a new Netflix show titled Sense8, about eight strangers located around the world who simultaneously experience an intense telepathic vision, and afterwards are irrevocably mentally linked. Filming began in June, and after having hit several exotic locales (Iceland, Kenya), cameras for the show will begin rolling in Seoul in mid-September.

I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the scenes shot in Korea will concentrate on Bae Doo-na, in her third collaboration with the sci-fi duo (she was in Cloud Atlas and will play a small part in the upcoming movie Jupiter Ascending). She’s been cast as one of the eight central characters, and when asked about the show, Bae said, “It’s not a superheroes-versus-villains story. It’s about eight people who have the special ability to visit and identify with each others’ souls.” She explained, “We each have our own occupational traits, and through these abilities, we are able to help each other.”

The nerd in me is deeply intrigued by the premise, and with the collaboration of other sci-fi powerhouses (J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5, Tom Tywker of Cloud Atlas and James McTeigue of V for Vendetta will also direct episodes), I’m hoping the show will compensate for a dearth of quality science fiction programming in recent years. Straczynski, also a co-writer and co-producer for Sense8, has said that he, along with the Wachowskis, pitched the series as a five-season story, so fingers crossed the show is good and does well enough during its first season to buy them the additional time.

Other notable members of the cast include Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill) and Naveen Andrews (Lost). The first of Sense8’s hour-long episodes will debut on Netflix in 2015.

Not a fan of Sci-Fi but it's refreshing to hear news of Bae Doo-na. I miss her terribly in the Kdrama land. Last I've seen her was in "Gloria". I wish her success in her breakthrough of the Hollywood scene. It is a hard industry to crack in for Asian actors/actresses. Very few have made it very far.

I was meh about this when I read Wachowski (http://xkcd.com/566/) but when I read that JMS is involved, that piqued my interest. B5 is my favourite SF series ever, so I might have to check this out when it comes.

Do like me - use followmy.tv! It also has dramas listed (though sometimes they have different titles/english titles so be sure to check for alternative titles). I couldn't live without it... Or better, I'd lose a lot of shows without it!
It's a site and not an App, but it's the only one I've found which has both korean (asian, generally) and other countries stuff.

This could be really interesting, and I hope it does well in the American market - Bae Doona is one of the best in a generation of fairly brilliant Korean actresses, and I would love to see her find such mainstream success.

Exotic, definition: originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country. So, yes, Kenya qualifies from the point of view of the author. From the perspective of a native of Kenya, it would not.

So happy to hear Bae Doo Na news although it's not k-movie or k-drama. She's getting foothold in international market so it's good for gaining recognition.

I really like her in As One and Cloud Atlas. She can play any type of character with ease I think.

This sounds pretty interesting, although I hate the title. It reminds me a bit of Cloud Atlas which was a really engrossing movie. Thanks for the info.

This is one of the few upcoming movies that sounds really interesting, and I cannot recall a similar plot in any past shows or movies.

She looks like Russian actress Yelena Koreneva (when she was young).

I work in a hotel in one of the locations she was filming at for sense 8 and she is really beautiful in person. She also has a cute personality from what I saw with her interactions with her other castmates(the whole crew stayed at our hotel for about 2 weeks?).

Will keep this in mind. Definitely will give this show a go.

Bae Doo Na was really good in Cloud Atlas.

Thanks for the heads up, awcoconuts. :)

Hopefully being on Netflix will open some doors for Bae Doo-na, who's a truly great actress. I would personally hope it will alert some other director to her talent so she can get away from the Wachowskis and their awful movies. Man, both Cloud Atlat and Jupiter Ascending (not to mention Speed Racer, shiver!) were just complete and utter failures.

If people want to see Bae in a actual good film, check out her latest, A Girl at My Door.

LOVE Bae Doo Na. She is my favorite actress, period. I also love Sci-Fi and this premise sounds really interesting. I'd love to watch this. I don't even mind the Wachowski's. They might not always have hits (Cloud Atlas could have been executed differently with more actors as well) but I love their vision and they are fun to watch.

But, it'd just be great to see Doo Na on a show again.
