2014 Korea Drama Awards

The Korea Drama Awards (part of the two-week Korea Drama Festival that kicked off today) isn’t one of the bigger award ceremonies around, but being that it’s drama-focused and inclusive of both broadcast and cable programs, it’s worth a look—even if the winners list does seem rather scattershot.

The awards ceremony was held in the city of Jinju on October 1, and it should come as no surprise that You From Another Star was the biggest winner of the night, with five awards. And it’s nice to see Answer Me 1994 right in the mix with some key wins. But looking at the list, mostly I’m perplexed at the randomness of the winners, even if I will agree that the individual winners did good jobs in their respective roles.

That said, at least the nominees list had a better mix of titles; it’s just that the winners were concentrated into a few projects. (Examples: Answer Me 1994 and Secret Love Affair were nominees for scriptwriting, though neither won. Best Drama nominees included Empress Ki, Jung Do-jeon, and Secret Love Affair… but then again, also nominated was the whackadoodle family makjang King’s Family, so maybe that’s not the best example of anything.)

WINNERS LIST

Daesang: Kim Soo-hyun (You From Another Star)
Best Drama: You From Another Star
Best Scriptwriting: Jung Hyun-min (Jung Do-jeon)
Best Director: Shin Won-ho (Answer Me 1994)
Top Excellence, Actor: Kim Jaejoong (Triangle)
Top Excellence, Actress: Oh Yeon-seo (Jang Bo-ri Is Here)
Excellence Award, Actor: Lee Kwang-soo (It’s Okay, It’s Love)
Excellence Award, Actress: Kang So-ra (Doctor Stranger)
New Actor: Ahn Jae-hyun (You From Another Star),
Seo Kang-joon (Sly and Single Again)
New Actress: Do-hee (Answer Me 1994)
Child Actor: Kim Ji-young (Jang Bo-ri Is Here)
Global Actor Award: Otani Ryohei (Joseon Gunman)
Best Couple: Do-hee & Kim Sung-kyun (Answer Me 1994)
Hot Star Award: Shin Sung-rok (You From Another Star)
Hallyu Star Award: Kim Soo-hyun (You From Another Star)
OST Award: Ailee (Fated To Love You)

Frankly I would’ve picked Jeon Ji-hyun over Kim Soo-hyun for the Daesang, but the quibble is minor, as it’s the combination of the two that catapulted You From Another Star to its mega-hit status. One could argue that Ha Ji-won and Jo Jae-hyun, also nominated in the category, would have been deserving Daesang winners too (for historical dramas Empress Ki and Jung Do-jeon), and Lee Min-ho was a huge draw for Heirs (though I’d say giving him the award would’ve been a travesty)—but you can’t argue with the power of You From Another Star.

I’m a fan of Oh Yeon-seo’s look, which opts for a more sophisticated, edgy flair than the feminine, pretty dresses worn by most of the other ladies. The others look great, of course—but Oh Yeon-seo looks sharp and badass.

She took home the Top Excellence Award in the actress category, which feels appropriate given that her family drama Jang Bo-ri Is Here is a huge ratings hit these days, teetering on the brink of national drama status (it’s just shy of 40% with a few episodes left to go). Yes, the drama is something of a shrill, melodramatic angstfest, but hey, it brings home the ratings.

I’m surprised to see Jaejoong take home the Top Excellence Award—not because he wasn’t good in Triangle, but because he beat out actors in higher-profile dramas, like Ji Chang-wook of Empress Ki and Yoo Ah-in of Secret Love Affair. (He also beat Lee Jong-seok and Lee Seung-gi, but their projects—Doctor Stranger and You’re All Surrounded—didn’t have the same buzz factor.) But congrats to him, and he looks, as ever, beautiful.

Yay for Lee Kwang-soo! I would’ve been happy to see Seo In-gook win too (High School King of Savvy), but Kwang-soo was great in It’s Okay, It’s Love and always has a way of making you sympathize with his characters.

Kang So-ra looks fantastic, doesn’t she? She’s here on the arm of Oh Sang-jin (Yoo Inna’s prosecutor oppa from You From Another Star); the two were hosts at the awards ceremony. I much prefer the lacy gown to the ruffly one, but in any case, good on Kang So-ra for taking home an award for Doctor Stranger. At least that show won something?

Shin Sung-rok, everybody’s favorite murderous villain (You From Another Star), won the “Hot Star” award. Yes, he is.

Ahn Jae-hyun pretty much came out of nowhere and parlayed his cute little-bro role in You From Another Star to a bigger part in You’re All Surrounded, netting a higher mainstream profile overall. Now he gets a New Actor win, which may not be his last of the year.

Is anybody else surprised that the uber-catchy “You are my destiny” song from You From Another Star didn’t win in the OST category? Perhaps they split their own vote (the show had two songs in this category), allowing Ailee to swoop in and bring home the prize for Fated To Love You.

Aw, I love that the Best Couple award went to the adorably mismatched Do-hee and Kim Sung-kyun pairing of Answer Me 1994. Admittedly, the actors look a lot more mismatched as themselves, but I’ll just pretend that it’s Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo up there accepting the award. Do-hee also picked up a solo award for New Actress, and the drama’s PD, Shin Won-ho, won for directing.

Otani Ryohei (Joseon Gunman) won for Global Actor, which appears to be a new category. I’m not sure who else was nominated, but perhaps it’ll be a nice category for non-Korean actors in K-dramas. There are far more who are terrible than who are good, but hey, I’ll be happy to see the ratio swing in the other direction.

I feel like I’m always saying this, but Kim So-hyun (Reset) is growing up nicely, isn’t she? (She turned 15 this summer.) Her fashion sense is evolving nice-ly, too, and her tea-length lacy white pick is both chic and age-appropriate.

Lee Yi-kyung has been picking up a number of supporting roles this year, with You From Another Star and You’re All Surrounded and Trot Lovers. He’s been bratty, aegyo-filled, and murderous—not all at once!—so it’s nice to see him trying on different acting hats. He’s here presenting with Miss Korea’s Moon Ji-in.

Clara (Emergency Couple) looks fresh and rosy in her dusty pink gown, which looks better in action than standing still. This is a gown that I would normally find awkwardly shaped, which she somehow manages to make look flattering.

This seems like a safe choice for Ha Yeon-joo (Miss Korea, My Secret Hotel), who I think could get away with bolder or riskier choices and stand out more on the red carpet. But I’ll concede that this fits her like a glove and she looks great in it.

I’d say fit is also the key point for former Jewelry member and actress Kim Eun-jung (K-Pop Ultimate Survival). I’m torn on her black gown, which is cut perfectly to her figure and has an interesting texture (leather? brocade? old curtain?), but is also a little plain. Or is the shiny material embellishment enough?

Hm, I don’t love Go Eun-mi’s (Empire of Gold) selection, though I suspect I would appreciate the glittery gold color more up close. It’s okay. It’s pretty.

Kim Ji-young beat out a couple of adorable competitors in the Child Actor category, with Kim Yoo-bin (plot-driving Saet-byul in God’s Gift – 14 Days) and Hong Hwa-ri (Taecyeon’s precocious daughter in Wonderful Season) also nominated. I haven’t seen her in Jang Bo-ri Is Here, but if I can count on anything in dramaland, it’s that the kiddos are little scene-stealer who can often hold their own against the grown-ups.

I’m not familiar with Kim Kwon (Into the Fire, Secret Love Affair), but he’s not helping matters by looking like he rolled onto the red carpet by accident while maybe delivering flower bouquets backstage. Put on a suit! Tuck in your shirt! Look like you’re trying!

Newcomer Park Sun-ho (Gold Rainbow) presents with SNL’s Ahn Young-mi, whose gown just makes me itch to rip off the ruffly bottom. She kinda looks like a human bell.

And last but not least, here we have a New Actor winner, Seo Kang-joon (Sly and Single Again), who I’d say at this stage in his career is more charisma than acting skill. But he’s young and dimply and a noona-killer in the making. Especially when he’s doing a little dance on the red carpet. Go on, be adorable, you.

I hope he's able to get some action stunts (one that involves leaping through air) in his future projects to overcome his fear of heights and to toughen him up. Still can't get over his "Chopsticks bungee fall".Haha.

Kim Soo Hyun wining Daesang over Jun Ji Hyun and Han Ji Won is one more proof of Koreas sexist ways. His performance was a level below both of them.

How is it sexist when Jun Ji Hyun has won other daesang awards for the same show in other award ceremonies.....But OH NO A GUY WINS KOREA MUST BE SEXIST......

Because she deserves it....................Plus he won two other awards during Baeksang Awards so they had to give an award to her cause they would look ridiculous.

Her character was the reason most of the people watched that show in a first place.

If you had said she deserved it no one would argue but calling it sexist is where you went wrong.....I don't think you know when and how to use the term "sexist"

Required fields are marked *

I don't know if it's sexist, but it is certainly a travesty of some order. That a mediocre actor such as Kim Soo Hyun gets so overshadow two truly great actresses in their prime, solely because the women of China is hot for him, is just thoroughly depressing...

yeah I hope at least Dramabeans' end of year poll for 'favourite character' actually includes female characters too this time!

It would really be a travesty if Do Min-joon was an option on the poll but not the far more interesting and better-acted Chun Song-yi.(like, come on, we're mostly women here but we are capable of loving a female character way more than her male lead!)

It's not sexist. It's because Jeon Ji-hyun didn't go. Didn't you notice that none of the nominated ones went except for the winners?

They don't give you the award because you attended, you attend because you know beforehand that you're receiving the award. Actually, I think it's in bad sport to not attend an event simply because you know you won't win. What happened to cheering on your fellow actors for a job well done even if you're not being honored?

0

judges said KJJ is better than JCW

0

The panel of judges made up of industry professionals disagree with you.

0

Seriously, JCW's character made me drop Empress Ki, didn't watch JJ drama too so i can't talk, i was cheering for Yoo Ah In too bad. But congrats to JJ.

LOL...I know jaejoong did a good job, but he's not better than veteran actor Lee Bum Soo. JJ is more popular than him though. i'm glad the critics and judges gave recognition for jaejoong's improved acting skils and congrats for winning Top Excellence Actor Award.

0

Not really.....I have a very high opinion of Jaejoong's performance but he's not a better actor than Yoo Ah-in, Ji Chang-wook or Lee Beom-soo.

It's just that the writer of Triangle screwed up so badly, unlike the writers of Empress Ki/Secret Love Affair, that Jaejoong was left to carry a rapidly-going-downhill drama mostly on his own, and managed it really well. He deserves to be congratulated on this award considering just how boring the drama turned.

Lee Beom-soo's role was terribly written, which is why it's unfair to even compare him and Jaejoong though I will say, their best scenes were when they were together - they had genuine brotherly chemistry and it is a horrible waste that we didn't get to see more of it.

0

pogo, I agree with everything you wrote here.

0

Everyone in Comment 6 has a point.
I agree w jb that the winners list is totally random. All we need is for Jin Se Yeon's name to appear on it, then we'll know for sure awards are the joke that they are.

Amongst the Best Actor nominees, I have rooted for three of them: Yoo Ah In, Jaejoong and Lee Seung Gi. These three have given really outstanding and impressive performances in their respective dramas. So, Jaejoong getting it is fine with me. The other two should fair well in the longer term even if they don't have it this time round.

Now that we've had King of High School Savvy and Wonderful Season, I weigh the Triangle idol against the other two and find Kim Jae Joong not so hot any longer. His aggressively dyed hair in this award ceremony does not help his diminishing luster in my esteem. He appears so hopelessly behind the curve.

About who deserves to get which award, isn't it totally up to the judges that each ceremony appoints? If we don't like the judges' pick, don't despair but start your own award pageant. Maybe one in social media that will outrank all brick-and-mortar ones?

I love Seo in Guk. He's one of my favorites actors. And he's handsome, cute, adorable. I like King of High School. But Yong Dal is better character than Lee Min Suk.

I love Jaejoong. He's one of my favorites singers. But I was not fan of JJ the actor. In Triangle he was excellent and he was congratulated by many veteran actors. He deserved that award.

I had the exact same initial thought in regards to Kim Soo Hyun winning the Daesang over Jeon Ji Hyun. Her character was just amazing and so was her overall performance. I didn't really know her but that drama has made me a life long fan, especially after watching My Sassy Girl not long afterwards.

Required fields are marked *

same here. Her portrayal of Chun Song-yi was what made the drama, it's a shame to leave her out of this.

I know Kim Soo-hyun is very popular and he's pretty decent as an actor plus has great chemistry with JJH but his performance was just not as good as hers. He doesn't have the subtlety to manage the distinction between playing a cold and lonely 400-year-old alien and playing an impassive 20something who's slightly blank.

Wow, first time I read someone saying that and I totally agree, KSH is so popular these days, it becomes just a fact that he is this great actor when that is not true. :)

Required fields are marked *

wow, usually I do NOT hear people compare the acting skills of male actor with a female actress, but in this case, i admit i only watched man from the stars because of jeon ji hyun. she outshined kim soo hyun. despite not winning anything for korea drama awards, JJH actually won the Daesang at the baeksang arts awards. KSH's acting was not good enough to win such a big award. He won because of popularity. I know korea drama awards are voted by critics & experts, NOT the fans, but i've noticed male actors are more popular and have bigger fanbase than actresses because kdrama fans are mostly female.

Depends on the site really, most commenters on DB/YFAS recaps actually shared my opinion on JJH and KSH's performances in the drama. You'll find almost everyone rated her over him, and with good reason.

KSH in dramas tends to shine in contrast to costars who are terrible actors like Suzy and Han Ga-in (and I give him credit for trying really hard to raise their level too), but get him with a performer of Jun Ji-hyun's level and it becomes apparent just how far he has to go, as an actor.

Which is NOT to say that he's bad, far from it in fact! But he's good, not great.

0

When I said "usually I do not hear people compare acting skills of male actor with female actor", I'm talking about many other dramas overall. After that I said "but in this case" Jeon Ji Hyun's acting outshined Kim Soo Hyun. This circumstance is more rare because usually I see people compare male lead with 2nd male lead and female lead with 2nd female lead.

0

My thoughts exactly. They had chemistry, but YFAS wouldn't be what it was w/o JJH. Imagine Chuno w/o JJH, Secret Garden w/o HB or Queen Seondeok w/o GHJ or KN. They took their respective characters to a whole new level and made them iconic.

Required fields are marked *

He still wasn't compelling to me even as he warmed up to JJH's character. Also, an arrogant, cold hearted character can still be portrayed with some depth that keeps you transfixed but it is not easy. He definitely tried but didn't pull me personally.

I actually really like KSH as a person (i thought it was awesome that he got so interested in astronomy after the show and he just seems awkwardly sweet). I hope he gets better and better as an actor.

0

Required fields are marked *

I do think KSH isnt that bad an actor, just tht he's pretty overated right now. I honetly think he was at his best during Dream High and Giant. He overacted in Moon Embracing the sun and underacted in YFAS (but those were his most popular dramas tho)
But Yes, JJH or Ha Ji won or Jo Jae hyun should have taken the Daesang instead
(i have no idea why but Iam reminded of the time Kim Nam Joo and Han hyo joo or Kim Myung Min and Song Seung heon both won shared Daesang) I dislike it when awards do not go to their most deserving awardee

I really liked KSH in Dream High but thought that Yeo JinGoo, who acted as KSH's younger brother, was more impressive in Giant.

Totally agree that JJH, HJW or Jo Jae Hyun Hyun were more deserving. It's interesting to note that KSH lost out to both JJH and JoJH in the Baeksang Awards.

Required fields are marked *

Jeon Ji Hyun's performance was what made YFAS for me - her sassiness, ego, vulnerability and warmth were all equally charming and hilarious. Hers was a truly unique character, and it was a comeback truly worthy of JJH.

It was JJH who did the awesome rap ditty in the car, and sold all kinds of product placements, from clothing to lipstick.

I hope she gets more recognition at later awards ceremonies.

Why do you have a problem with people saying she was better than him? Wemake that judgement all the time with male actors who are better thantheir female leads, why can we not say JJH did better in her role? Kim Soo Hyun is not any less in demand in Korea for our saying what we think.

0

Required fields are marked *

That's exactly why I deliberately didn't mention KSH in my comment. No comparison, no judgment.

We ship the male lead and the female lead for different reasons, anyway. So there's no way to "compare" 1 performance over another, really.

Kwang Soo can look serious whenever he wants to, but, on Running Man, he only does it to ham up the scene.

However, he does a great job going in full drag in eye make-up, lipstick, wig, and gown on the latest episode. A flashy red outfit that would have been suitable on the carpet here.

OMG JAEBOO CONGRATS! OPPA YOU WON! YOU REALLY WON ?

okay...back to my normal mode now teehee

Ahh I would have loved to see JJH win over KSH actually..she was the main attraction for me in the drama..but oh well....

Owwwww I really love the Reply 1994 couple! the badass girlfriend and the easily manipulated boyfriend! hahahah I hope to see more of such dynamic in future dramas! ??

Out of all the child actors out there, I actually have a soft spot for KSH...maybe because she has acted in so many dramas that I have seen and loved...for example RTP and ICHYV...I see a really bright future for this young lady...infact I checked out "Rewind" for her lol...not my crack though..

So happy for Kwang Soo!! he was wonderful in IOIL! Glad to see him win an award! fighting giraffe! ?

Loved that Ailee's "Goodbye my love" won the OST award..I freakin love the song...and as catchy as "You are my destiny" is, its kinda all sorts of cheesy kekek...plus I would have loved if FTLY would have won some acting award!!! I loved the drama...the Jang couple was jjang!!!

I am actually loling at Otani's win...he was so.....emotionless and plastic like in "Josean gunman"....I guess Korea really has a short list of foreign actors LOL...sorry dude...

Can't complain much about the awards right now, jaejoong winning an award pretty much shut up my fangirl mouth hehe but kinda sad to see JJH not winning anything..

Ahbinhave waiting for hours to see db's recap of the award ceremony...Good job!! ?

At first I though Fated was somehow on too late in the year to be in consideration but then clicked if Ailee could get an award for the OST then it comes across as very odd that the show didnt at lest get nominated in other categories as well?
Even more so when these awards are often based on money and no K-drama has been sold for more than Fated was, at lest to China, think it was like three times that paid for likes of You From Another Star

It's almost a crime to not give the award of best couple to Jang Hyuk/Jang Nara...they were brilliant and had soo much chemistry...I don't know how these awards work actually, but its a pretty big neglect on their part!

Bori Bori (Oh Yeon-seo) looks very pretty in these pics. I do wish the bottom were floor length. The current length cuts her off at a length that makes her calves look big. But so glad she won an award!!!! Can't wait for the finale of this drama. It's gonna be soo good!

I loooooved You From Another Star too but I think Jo In-sung (It's OK It's Love) or Seo In Guk (High School King of Savvy) or Yoo Ah In (Secret Affair) would have been MUCH BETTER choices in this category. Oh well.

Out of all the winners, I can mostly agree on the Ailee win. Goodbye My Love was such a powerful song that went so well with the scenes in Fated To Love You.

omg, it was a torturous week until that song was officially released! i repeated the parts of the drama that played the song over and over again. it's much better than 'you are my destiny' imo, so much more powerful and emotional. and it suited ailee really well too!

I have come to conclusion that you need good ratings and being famous internationally to win this kind of awards.

I know I would just sound like broken records, but I want capable and deserved actors win, not the actors who can make high ratings!

If not, then they shouldn't bother to create any drama awards at all!! It happens every year and every time I see it, I always left perplexed how a really good actor/actress/drama can't win anything.

It seems like good acting has very little to do with winning awards these days. It's more like they base it on 20% acting, 30% ratings and 50% popularity/hotness.

AWW so happy for Answer Me couple! They were my favorite thing about that show ('cause the husband fiasco was not my cup of tea). A cameo with Kim Sun-kyun would be great in Do-hee's new drama. Its hilarious though since that was the first character I saw him in but he's been some scary/bad-ass characters in movies(Hwa-yi and Nameless Gangster come to mind).

Excuse me for my rant, as far as I know beside YFAS there's a drama named "Empress Ki" which also has very high ratings in Korea. But all drama awards make it look like only YFAS has major popularity and deserve all awards. While I know not everyone into sageuk and it has its own flaws, but we can't deny the acting talents on that drama. Ha Ji Won and Ji Chang Wook also have impressive performance and deserving awards in Empress Ki but they don't win anything, except MBC Drama Awards.

Required fields are marked *

Empress Ki is considered quite low rating for saguek drama genre. For romantic comedy genre to come across 30% rating, it can be considered very rare and that the reason YFAS is treated like the highest rating drama ever for this year. For saguek to be recognize as very high rating drama you can take example of the moon embracing the sun. That drama rating average 45%

Required fields are marked *

YFAS didn't get 30%, but with an average rating of 24%, it is probably the highest rating weekday drama for this year.

Based on the list of winners, it looks like the focus was on modern dramas, and sageuks were mostly ignored. This looks like yet another popularity-based awards.

Huh? Empress Ki was breaking 40 percent ratings, which in 2013-14 is very, very high. Please don't make statements that are so easily proven false.

Empress Ki's highest rating was 29.2 with average of 21.9. While YWCFTS's highest was 28.1 but with higher average rating of 24.02%. When comparing it to other sageuk, it's not really considered as high rating. Dong Yi (2010) did break 30, while TMTES (2012)'s highest rating was 42.

I don't think the competition is between modern and saguek. Ive watched EK for the full 51 ep. Its okay by itself but we are here comparing it with a full range of other dramas. It just does not match up. To me KSH deserves it, especially when he is compared with actors in his age group, ever cool and calm and does not over-act. Ratings, tho something, is not everything.

Congratulations to all the winners! Not entirely surprised You From Another Star was the big winner. But, I can't help but feel that, for me at least, the appeal keeps fading so that I have no desire to actually watch it. And, this may upset some people, but I'm beginning to feel that Kim Soo-hyun is overrated. I don't think I've ever finished any drama he's done. I just lose interest a few episodes in then stop. Oh well, I guess I just have to give him another shot...at some point.

Glad Ailee won for best OST. She's so awesome and has an AMAZING voice. Also happy for Jaejoong and Seo Kang-joon, Do-hee, Kim Sung-kyun, Kim So-hyun and Kim Ji-young, and Lee Kwang-soo.

Korea's so-called "acting award shows" should be re-named "Popularity and Fashion Show" because that's all they are good for these days. I don't even bother to check out who won what award from what drama.

But I look at the dresses. I like the black dress on Oh Yeon Seo and the lacy gown on Kang Sora.

Among the men, the only one who caught my attention is the one who made those dance moves.

Ha Yeon-joo's soft pink dress is lovely, but I agree that it was a safe pick.

Ailee's FTLY song Goodbye my Love was really great, but my top pick from that drama's OST has got to be Jung Dong Ha's Destiny Sonata (운명 같은 너) aka You are my Destiny (운명처럼 널 사랑해). I love that sweet and powerful song so much.

I agree too! I acknowledge that other actors and JJH might've been better choices for Daesang, but that doesn't mean that KSH is a bad actor. I think he's a great actor. You can't ignore the fact that he was the other half of the YFAS couple -- if there was a terrible actor in his place, the drama might've tanked instead.

Rather than put down his acting, we can just recognize that the other actors/actresses were just really, really good. :D

Required fields are marked *

Agreed. I like KSH's acting in Moon Embracing The Sun. His character is outgoing and his acting is outstanding. I did not like historic drama, but this one was good. I liked it more than YFAS.

But he is also good in YFAS. The differerence is the characters. DMJ was a cool character. JJH got an outgoing and better role to play in YFAS. Hence, everyone loved her. Me too. But since JJH got her recognition in a bigger award ceremony, it didn't do any harm for KSH to receive some recognition as well.

I do not think that KSH is over-rated. He is a good actor. He is still so young. So I am sure he will impress us with his other roles in the future.

He is popular in his home country, China and other Asian countries. So is popularity a sin ?! Popularity brought love as well as hatred....

I feel sad about this. He used to receive only praises about his acting.

if i can like your comment, i want like it 1 million times.
I do agree to all your points. I cannot understand when people suddenly said he is an overrate actor when he become really popular now. as i know so far, he is well-known for his acting not because his flowery look. Even korean people said he doesn't have those classic handsomeness such as won bin. he success and well-love by general public because of his acting charisma. Majority people love his acting. That mean maybe people who critics his acting is not good or overrate is just not their cup of tea. Different people have different taste. For those who critic cannot feel his emotion or anything, just don't watch his dramas. you should just watch your bias dramas. That's all. Easy right.

0

I felt like KSH was the only one in the adult cast in MoonSun who actually made me connect...Han Ga In did zilch for me..JIW was criminally wasted...hower the second lead lady was pretty good too...actually better than HGI...

0

he was a good actor before he was popular. Now he has been so intensely popular, people have forgotten how good he is.. unfortunately.. and I don't think he has nothing else too prove since his track record is good.

0

Oh my god! I agree with you, in the past there are so many people who praise him and want him to get some recognition and popularity but nowadays all he got are criticism -_- they criticized him about his acting but I think thats all because his character supposedly a cool person and had a flat expression :) btw I freaking love jun ji hyun unni too <3

If you watched the flow of YFAS, you would notice that JJH has more scenes, particularly emotional scenes, in the later episodes while KSH is rather functional just for explaining the development of the story.

I think this is a natural development as CSY's character is more interesting. But it did give an advantage for JJH to perform more and better.

This is actually the same in the case of the Moon Embracing the Sun. KSH got a better role than HGI. And hence, everyone said that HGI's acting skill is poor. This is not the case and not fair to HGI. They matched well particularly in the latter episodes.

If you see rationally, scriptwriter would become more biased towards one character as this character became more popular. This may not be relating to acting skill but more relating to the viewers' reaction to the character.

I hope every viewers can learn to praise instead of just criticizing. These actors and actresses gave up sleeping to make all these fantastic dramas for us to enjoy.

I also found those comments towards Kim Jae Joong rather ..... I don't understand why people hate "idol" turned actor/actress. Please use your eyes and not be prejudice when judging them.

While (not surprisingly) YFAS has been racking up the major awards, it's pretty much due to its immense popularity (again, not surprisingly) than its merits (it was amusing/entertaining at times, but a great drama - no).

Pretty much the same reason re Daesang for Kim Soo-hyun (still peeved that KSH undeservedly won it over Han Seok-kyu prior).

At least that sappy/cheesy OST/theme song for YFAS didn't win.

People have different opinions, there are some who don't bother to finish the first episode while there are those who repeat dozen times of the same drama. To be a successful drama and get the viewers' hearts, it doesn't take just the look of the actors, but the script and overall cast team members and the producer's ability in carring out all those to the perfect combination! I am not surprised why YWCFTS wins so many and why Kim Soo Hyun wins Daesang. Of course, JJH could have won but as far as I know she is filiming her new movie in China and cant attend the ceremony and I doubt if Korean Drama Award would give the award to people who cannot attend the ceremony. People should take note that the judges take that into consideration as well. Ywcfts could have won more awards but the ceremony would be just for them if they dont spread out award to other dramas. I think YWCFTS well derserves all awards it has received. It has become so popular and its actors especially KSH & JJH has hit the sky rocket for a reason. Everything in this drama fits perfectly! KSH is best in his role as DMJ and JJH is very unique in her CSY acting style, they both bring the charisma to the drama. They noth compliment each other so they both deserve the award. There might be one character that allow an actor or actress to show their emotion in the character more than the other, but I think both did excellent in their roles.
