Let’s Eat shakes up cast lineup for sequel

javabeans: I have some drama news for you, but maybe you should sit down first. So they’re doing a Season 2 of Let’s Eat.
girlfriday: Yeah, I know. I’m already on it. Got my bowls of ramyun and my takeout menus at the ready.
javabeans: Wait, that’s not all. Season 1’s Yoon Doo-joon is just-about-almost signed on to return in his role as Gu Dae-young.
girlfriday: Uh-huh, yes, that’s totally why I’m watching Season 2. Duh.
javabeans: Hold on, there’s more. So…. none of the other cast members are coming back.
girlfriday: Wait, WHAT.
javabeans: Yeah, there’s been “a large change” in the lineup, according to Yoon’s management. Also the management of his potential new co-star, Seo Hyun-jin (Three Musketeers), who is looking at the leading role.
girlfriday: WHAAAAAAAAT. You can’t do that! What about Lee Soo-kyung??
javabeans: She… is not returning. And that original loveline “will be very different” in this new season.
girlfriday: Very different? VERY DIFFERENT?! You mean different because it won’t exist, because he’s going to not be with her anymore and fall in love with someone else?
javabeans: Well, I did tell you to sit down. I don’t know why they say that. Does rage travel less far that way? I don’t really know how you do that to a show, though, where you make a Season 2 that kind of…
girlfriday: …derails the happiness that you spent sixteen episodes building in Season 1?
javabeans: Yeah it kind of seems counterproductive, because I don’t know how I would root for the new girl that you’re trying to sell as his love interest.
girlfriday: You solve that by not rooting for her. What the hell, Let’s Eat? Why are we suddenly being My Sassy Girl 2?
javabeans: Aghhh, talk about ruining two movies with one movie. Because I don’t care if I don’t see the second, lesser, stupid movie with some other girl. Just the fact that she exists totally negates the whole point of the first movie!
girlfriday: Yes! She’s a canon-ruiner!
javabeans: Why couldn’t they just make Yoon Doo-joon a new guy who’s like his first season character living out a parallel existence in the apartment building next door? Why did you have to bring him back and then crush his love?
girlfriday: Yes, if you’re only going to bring back one character, which is already a mistake, then what’s wrong with Bizarro Gu Dae-young running a copycat Shiksha blog and not cheating on Lee Soo-kyung? HUH?
javabeans: I’m trying to be fair and think of any way in which this might actually work. So they’re also courting Jo Eun-ji (Greatest Marriage) and Kim Hee-won (Misaeng) to join the cast. In addition to Seo Hyun-jin, of course, who’s been offered the lead. Maybe it’s a prequel and he hasn’t met Lee Soo-kyung yet?
girlfriday: Then what’s the point of caring about this girl, if he’s just going to break up with her and meet Lee Soo-kyung later?
javabeans: Oh right. Then maybe Lee Soo-kyung is his girlfriend in Canada and we just never see her?
girlfriday: Why did she go to Canada? Why aren’t they Skyping with webcams?
javabeans: Maybe they were really happy, and had a beautiful marriage, and she got cancer but was able to spend her last few months beautifully enjoying all her good food with him and went peacefully, leaving him to move on and heal with another nice lady who likes to eat?
girlfriday: Well now I’m annoyed AND depressed. Thanks.

I honestly think this was about the worst direction they could have taken this. Either go with the same main couple or go with a different cast. Ugh.
I am glad I was sitting down although I knew as soon as I saw the title.

i was so excited about season coz i really love gu dae yong and lee soo kyung and the adorable barassi... But wtf... Change of cast, except for do joon?., noooo! I wish do joon will decline. Sigh!

Okay the Answer Me series totally did the parallel universe thing and made it work perfectly well. WHY can't they do that here?? We spent MONTHS rooting for this couple as perfect foodie soulmates and you're going to cancel all of that out? Noooooo way Jose!!

I love this drama so much it made me go find a korean restraunt. I had never had Korean food before. I can't believe they are going to ruin it by only casting 1/2 the couple for part 2.

Yeah, I heard about this last night from Koreaboo. Was hoping you guys wouldn't confirm it. It's just like another Pocahontas 2 (I don't care how many years it's been. I will never get over how they ruined my favourite Disney film).
Well there goes my planned weekly happy time. I think I'm just gonna imagine that they're traveling the world eating loads of great food. S2 doesn't exist. It doesn't.
But I was so looking forward to more Doojoon! D:

Aww I was hoping Doo Joon and Soo Kyung to move in together!!
After a year of Doo Joon and Soo Kyung's relationship they decide to move in together, Doo Joon wants to propose to SK.... however Soo Kyung's ex husband comes back to ask for forgiveness. LOL sorry got carried away.

Barassi!!!!! Will another dog be able to take his place? Will Let's Eat even be watchable without Barassi? We'll have to stay tuned and perfect our Kimchi Jigae until then.
Let's Eat was one of my favorite shows this past year. I'll go in trusting the writers and PD have a plan that will make the second installment as refreshing and delicious as the first one.

Well, my girl can ACT so I'm still on board. If anyone had seen her eat chicken (King's Daughter fans know what I'm talking about), they wouldn't worry. However, to expect the producers/directors to cancel a project because an actor/actress doesn't want to reprise their role....well.....

Well tvN(티비엔) way to go in ruining a hit show by not finishing the storylines of the original cast audiences WORLDWIDE loved. Don't be surprised if no one watches and your advertising dollars shrink. This better be a prequel about the girl who taught him all the tidbits about food, he is always spouting. She must then meet a tragic death (which serves the dual purpose of giving him amnesia, *there are times when amnesia serves a higher purpose) her name can be a pun referencing 'empty plates' and so while the blog is a tribute to her, he has no actual recollection of her. Drama gods either make my version or scrap the part 2.

I may still watch the first episode just for the sake of finding out how different (read: saddening) it will be. As a huge fan of season 1, I must say that I'm disappointed.
Totally agree with javabeans and girlfriday that there's no point of bringing one character back when you're going to bring a bunch of new people, including a new love interest.
What's the use of building all that chemistry then?
P.S. Does anybody know whether the new girl will have another show-stealing dog like Barassi or not? Cause that dog is a huge part of my reason of watching S1

Woah, are you serious tvN? There were 16 episodes in which you successfully convinced me that Lee Soo-Kyung and Goo Dae Young sincerely love each other and now what? What’s the point of the loveline in season 1 then if it doesn’t matter in season 2 anyway? I actually like Seo Hyun-Jin (she’ll probably do a great job) and I don’t mind that she gets a leading role but this is bullsh*t. I’m with the majority: either bring back the whole s1-cast or none of them. If they really need Dae Young it’ll be better to make him a side-character and not the leading man *sigh*

And to think that I was so excited when I heard that there will be a new season because Let's Eat is one of my favorite shows :(
Good luck to everyone involved in Season 2, I wish them the best. However, I will treat Let's Eat 2 like I have treated HIMYM. Never watched the final so everything's fine :)

I just knew let's eat about a month ago and I loved it at the first sight. I love all the casts. ALL! I started watching it and i fell in love moe and more until my friend told me that there would be let's eat season 2 but there would be a huge change!
And until now i haven't watched it yet even for the teaser cause I am really disappointed with the change!
Why did they make season 2 if they made a huge change!
And i think i would never watch the season 2. Re-watching season 1 is more enjoyable.
