Dramabeans Podcast #27: The Healer edition

Hello everybody! It’s been a fun, exhilarating ride with this drama, and now that it’s over girlfriday and I felt it was appropriate to send off Healer with a toast and lots of (blubbering, incoherent) love.

We know we’ve all said tons about this show already and maybe non-Healer fans are tired of hearing about it (which is why we separated this podcast out into its own thing, so as to be easily skippable) — but when the heart speaks, we’ve learned it’s best to let it get it all out. One of the perks of evolving past dinosaur-brain-hood! So grab a glass and join us, why don’t you?

I totally agree about the feeling you get while watching a very good and satisfying drama after so many that were not. Healer made me all happy and excited to watch dramas again. It gets tiring to watch something that seems like you've already seen before.

Park Min Young's acting really got me this time. I didn't enjoy her role in City Hunter so I never really paid attentiob to her. After seeing her in Healer, I've watched an interview she did and she said there that for her role as Young Shin, she just stopped thinking about looking good on screen and just let herself be the character. It did her wonders! I hope she gets more opportunity to showcase her talent.

Ah, thank you so much ladies for this. I wanna grab a drink as well to celebrate a wonderful drama but I'm out with my family for a dinner and I listened to this in the car. I like what you ladies said in the end about letting go. You From the Stars gave me withdrawals. I wasn't able to watch dramas for about 6 months after it ended. Talking to everyone about Healer and hearing what you ladies have to say, I feel like I'm ready to move on and just keep the awesomeness of Healer in my heart.

I love the Healer fandom, you guys rock! So yeah, let's meet again when another drama like this comes out. Then, I'd probably share the drink too. I hope it's soon!

Healer, you de-lurked me! Thank you JB and GF for your recaps and podcast. I've been your fan for many years. I've always admired your writing. You open up my eyes to a lot of things I miss while watching the dramas.
Healer....absolutely love this drama. It was perfect for me. Thank you Healer fans for your cheerful attitude. It was fun reading all your comments.
This ahjumma will keep hoping another gem of a drama will be created soon. Kudos to the writer, the actors and actresses. JCW, PMY, YJT and KMK were all brilliant! You all make me want to be part of the Healer team!

Thanks for not canceling your carefully scheduled drinking event girls, because the result is mega-fun to listen!

It totally let me experience happy emotions, just like the ones you hunt for in dramas. You know, feeling happy for two persons who do what they love... (and write about it. and talk about it.)

I hope you have a smooth sobering!

Besides, could someone tell me the title of the drama, which was discussed as one where the directing did more than writing - something-flowers? Couldn't hear it properly. Thanks!

And I will forever thank you, JB, for introducing me to Healer.

Originally I didn't pay attention to it, but JB's pic recaps caught my attention and slowly I became a shy recap reader. From time to time I would read the recaps, mostly to kill the time, but still I hadn't got the will to watch the show. Then, suddenly I found myself WAITING for the recaps. Yet, still.. I hadn't watched them. When the recap of ep 8 came out, I started to download the ep RAW just to end my curiosity. The same goes with ep 12. Ep 14 hit me in the face and I spent two days downloading everything and spending all my internet quota (and bought some more) and marathoning the eps. Ep 15 I was officially sold, watching it streaming, then downloading the RAW, waiting for the subs, and reading the recaps. My life was never the same again. I remembered those days I was actually in not-so-good financial condition. But I'd rather cut my meal cost and spent most of my money to buy a top-up for my internet. Hahahhahah!!!!!! I was totally crazy, right??

I'm not crying, there's just water in my eyes.

This podcast has gotten me all sentimental again. When Eternal Love played at the end, I was a goner. I still don't want to let Healer go. :(

It was great hearing you two pile on the love for SJN. I love not only her writing but also her as a person. She seems so humble, modest and really knows what she wants. Her philosophy in life and when it comes to her dramas are something to appreciate. Love boldly, and protect what you love. However, my heart always hurts when I read her Q&A etc, because of how self-deprecating she is. She takes on a lot of the burden and blame for her dramas when they don't do well ratings wise, even though her dramas tend to be of great quality. I hope she realizes how much love she's getting internationally for Healer. Someone needs to send her this podcast :D

I LOL-ed when you all brought up the reactions of the Korean viewers. It's amazing how similar they were to ours. "I'll just watch Healer harder!" because seriously, what is wrong with the ratings system? :P

Yoo Ji Tae was of course fantastic in this role along with Park Sang Won. Loved them both. Well, I just loved the cast in general.

And then there was JCW and PMY, whose acting was great and their chemistry was off the charts. Really agreed with what you all said about PMY making Young Shin her own. First time I really liked her in a drama. As for JCW, I really wished there was more focus on him in this podcast (I'm biased), but you can't win them all, right? XD

The OTP in this drama was perfection. <3 <3 <3 My heart still breaks for Bong Sookie and his rejection as well! But I also loved the way that YS rejected BS which showed that it wasn't that she didn't like him, just that she didn't have room in her heart. That's quite the mature and considerate rejection. But I'm thankful that we did eventually see that she loved JH, BS and Healer. :D

Jung Hoo totally encompassed all of his personas. His awkwardness and fear of social interaction, especially with papa Chae, was so adorable but so heart-breaking. I still can't get over how alone and abandoned he was before meeting YS....

I could have also done with 5 or 10 more minutes of Healer (who am I kidding, I could have done with 20 more episodes, and this is something that I rarely ever say about a drama!) but what we were given on a live shoot schedule was pretty darn perfect. And that ending scene, swoooooon.

What?!? Jong Soo is younger than me? Crazy. He was really good in this though. Someone, give him a drama!

Now, I'm being greedy, but I wished we had more of the discussion actually focused on Healer and the characters and the plot developments. But that's the effects of two bottles of soju and makgulli, :P and I guess 20 episode recaps & discussion should suffice.Okay, now I'm just rambling...

When Eternal Love played in the end, I just sat on my bed and paused. Because it was like JB and GF telling me that we have to officially say goodbye to Healer. ? But I don't think I'm ready yet... ?

@Chesens, when i was downloading the OST, I was thinking to leave that song out. First because I don't like MLTR, second, because it will always reminds me of that last scene. Where they both on the rooftop, kissing, and then...it ends. It ENDS! I eventually downloaded it but not playing it.

Too many feels is the word !

I don't know what to do ! Indulge in my withdrawal by going through comments and videos and posts , or go watch healer again to experience the magic or go on with my life and finally let go????

Am just sad. Its the night like JB said. Just sad and looking up at ceiling !

clap!clap! clap!

So agree with what you said.

And it's quite sad when Jung Hoo said those lines " I thought it was a dream. But why is this dream so long? I keep thinking if it's real. It's not, isn't it? But if it is, is it okay?" huhuhuuuuuuu... my baby.. come come to me..TT_TT

I love those lines so much because it just show how far Jung Hoo with happiness before YS comes. His heart must have hardened by time that when happiness comes he actually asks, is it ok? Or did he think he didn't deserve it?? aaaah.... molla.. mollaaa.... I already got teary eyes writing this.. hics..

You guys are hilarious and I needed this to wrap up Healer finally in my heart...or maybe not (I guess I wrapped up around 20% .. Lol :P )
I enjoyed listening to the podcast. Love you guys.

P.S. In the end..when 'Eternal Love' song started and you said: 'We should finally let it go' .. I had tears in my eyes :(
Yes.. Healer indeed was a drama which touched my heartstrings deeply. Once in a lifetime experience. :)

When you were discussing about the actor played Jung Soo, I googled about him right away and a few second later you were also googling about him. I love your reaction when you found out that he was so young hahahaha...

Now I want to download Ditto and see how awesome Yoo Ji Tae there.

When they said its time to let go, saying "yes" took a while to come out. And yes and epilogue would have been great, kids running, a fish bowl with goldfish and hearing a barking dog.

Its so true about the Healer community even if there are obviously trolls around we didn't bother to pay attention and let that troll spoil the fun. Another thing that is so true is that Healer made my addiction liking to Kdramas to stay strong.

I raise and toast my gone cold bitter coffee with your soju and makgeolli!

Yay..two peas (beans) in a pod. Thank you JB and GF for this podcast. Thank you for sharing with us a bit of your personal background as well and how you may be twins you did not know about. Yes, all the stars aligned to bring us a magical experience in Healer. We are privileged. Here's hoping that after Healer, the dramas even under production or conception will take in all the best this community has squeed about. Our dramaworld can only be better then. to closure! to openness for better dramas to come!

Thanks JB and GF. "Bong Sookie is not an act, he is real"
"Healer pushed all my buttons." Love the discussion of the melding of the two personnas. If there can be a second season of Let's Eat and maybe Misaeng, I had wanted another Healer season... but after you pointed out that Jung Hoo didn't like the cold Healer life, that he finally learned to be part of the world, to love and protect that love... then I guess I have to give that thought up.

Thanks for everything.

Done listening. Ironically though, podcast ended with Eternal Love's "And I won't let go.." Letting go is really really hard to do. :(
Words that stick to mind after listening to the podcast are: Healer, Magic, Respecful & Crazy(Healer fans), Bosoms. :D

I am one of those who became Yoo Ji-tae's fan after seeing him in Healer. I have watched Old Boy last year but I never paid attention to him or his character. My focus then was only on ahjussi Choi Min-shik.

Thanks again JB & GF! ❤️
