Joo Sang-wook and Kim Sun-ah for new KBS vigilante drama

Okay, why does the mental picture of Joo Sang-wook as a caped crusader immediately give me the giggles? Maybe it’s because he’s been letting loose in a string of rom-coms lately (Birth of a Beauty, Sly and Single Again), but I can so picture him in a ridiculous hero costume involving mostly tights. Technically, the new KBS drama he’s considering is about a masked crusader, cape optional: Masked Prosecutor will be the new Wednesday-Thursday drama headed to the network in May, and Joo Sang-wook and Kim Sun-ah (I Do, I Do, Scent of a Woman) are being courted to headline.

The drama comes from PD Jeon San of Ruby Ring and writer Choi Jin-won of Big Man, and is about a prosecutor who gets frustrated with the limits of the justice system. By day he works cases like anyone else, but by night he dons a mask to fight the baddies that he couldn’t put behind bars the conventional (some would say legal) way. Badass.

The character is a district prosecutor with a sly and cheeky personality. He’s a typical ambitious prosecutor looking to advance his career, but when he puts on his mask, he’s fists before reason, and full of zeal. The casting articles compare him to Zorro, which again, makes me giggle. I’d like to hope that he’s more like Harvey Dent by day, Batman by night; City Hunter and Prosecutor rolled into one.

And thankfully the heroine isn’t a damsel in distress just because the hero is, well, a hero — Kim Sun-ah has been offered the role of a detective squad chief in the violent crimes division. She’s an elite detective who runs around in the field even in a miniskirt. What, that’s so impractical. She’s an upright cop who’s unmoved by external pressures, and is passionate about justice. Mkay, but if she were really passionate about getting the bad guy, she’d at least wear sensible shoes.

Both Joo Sang-wook and Kim Sun-ah are considering favorably for now. What I really want to know is if the show is going to be light and fun or dark and dramatic. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing these two double up on their comedic chops, but if you give me a Gaksital or a Healer who risks danger and hides his face to mete out his own justice, you certainly won’t get any complaints from me.

Masked Prosecutor follows Unkind Women in May.

Looks very promising! Kim Sun Ah is one of my favourite actresses since My Lovely Kim Sam Soon and Scent of a Woman. She is so versatile. This pairing definitely has potential and the plot line is intriguing - Mask of Zorro, Robin Hood combo - what is there not to love :)

Ooooh, like like like!! So many good actors being courted for dramas lately. We're going to have a hard time deciding what to watch at this rate. But not complaining at all. Many of the actors and actresses receiving casting calls now are actually ones that I like and would bother checking out so I'm pretty excited for this year's releases after a kind of 'meh' year (for me at least) last year.

There's a special place in my heart for Kim Sun Ah. Scent of a Woman and MNIKSS cemented my addiction to Kdramas. It is so good to hear from her again.

They both have a heavy funny bone in 'em. They make rom-com, truly rom-to-da-com. I can't wait for this pairing. Make it happen, please DramaLord!

I'm always wary of who Kim Sun Ah's leading man would be in dramas because the age difference can sometimes throw the chemistry off but, honestly, my oppa is the most perfect guy to play her leading man. The just seem like they would have a good chemistry, don't they???

I would really love if Joo Sang Wook came back in another rom com, but i won't get too greedy. I'll support my one and only oppa in what ever he does <33333
