Kim Sa-rang eyes a return to television with JTBC romance

We just heard about Beloved Eun-dong, JTBC’s upcoming romance melodrama, when Joo Jin-mo signed on, and now the show is about to cast Kim Sa-rang as well (she’s positively considering, yada yada). I’m mostly sure she won’t be the main lead, although as with the previous round of casting news, the news is rather vague.

Beloved Eun-dong will be a sentimental melo about a man who shares a heartbreaking love with a woman spanning the course of twenty years; their relationship is described as “a love that cannot be” and “fateful.” He’s named Eun-ho and grows up to be a top star, while the first love he cannot forget is named Eun-dong. Kim Sa-rang’s character is named Seo Jung-eun, and while she is described as “the woman who receives love from Eun-ho,” I have to suppose there’s a catch there, especially when Eun-ho runs into Eun-dong again.

The role of Seo Jung-eun is the ghostwriter for Eun-ho’s memoir, and also shares a connection with him from their past. She had feelings for him in her youth, but he “suddenly disappeared” one day and she’s been unable to forget him ever since. Then, as adults, she fatefully encounters him once again. I’m getting the sense that there’s a lot of fate in this drama.

If Kim Sa-rang confirms Beloved Eun-dong, this would mark her return to television after a four-year break; her last series was the hit fantasy rom-com Secret Garden. She hasn’t done many projects over the years so I only have a vague recollection of her acting, but I thought she did a fair job of turning a typical interloper in Secret Garden into a generally likable person. And if she’s going to be another second lead, remaining likable in the face of second-lead trappings is a pretty handy skill to have.

Beloved Eun-dong will premiere in June and air on Fridays and Saturdays on JTBC.

If such ladies as Lee Hanui or Lee Yubi can get out of second lead trappings, why can't Kim Sarang? I strongly think she deserves a chance!!! Anyone disagree with me, please let me know. I feel she has potential; just like how I felt about Jo Yoohee.

I loved Jo Yoonhee in Love Letter and Snow White, so I was especially happy to see her lead Nine (LOVED this drama) The King's Face.

If Lee Hanui can bump her status with a funny one like Modern Farmer (a bunch of cabbage that wasn't even about cabbage; at one point it was just background noise for when I was studying), maybe Kim Sarang should get one, too.

Or, look at Hyeri, she starred as a second lead and now she's bumped up to leading lady contention. These days, newbies are moving on up faster than before. It's kind of unfair because Kim Sarang has been acting/modelling a long time. Give her a break!

It's possible that Kim Sa Rang is the female lead and her character had to change her name for some reason ... or maybe there is truth to the rumors that Sung Yuri and Joo Jin Mo would be in a project together. Still, I have a hard time believing that Sung Yuri would take on the role of a woman with a teenage daughter.

Sung Yuri with a teenage daughter sounds more believable than Sung Yuri as the 2nd female-lead though (against Kim Sa Rang)... Even though, I would love to see KSR as the 1st lead just to know how she'll do.

Come on, if they can cast the likes of Hyeri as the 1st lead, KSR as the main female role won't kill but well Drama-casting's logic...

I started watching this on dramafever, and you hit the nail right on the head, lol. It's funny to read some of the initial posts on this drama since everything was so vague, but now that it's finally started airing, the story's actually making sense! Too funny how we all assumed she was playing a different character.

I've been wondering where Kim Sarang has been keeping herself since SG. I actually think she did an excellent job as Yoon Sul, and loved her storyline with Kim Joo Wan's cousin Oska. She was quite beautiful at the time, though distressingly thin (looked like you could snap her like a twig!). I'm curious to see her in another role, hopefully one with a complex character you could altimately root for, like that of Yoon Sul.

Nothing I've heard so far about this series has made me remotely interested in watching it...

I don't think the drama itself would be my cup of tea but I'm liking the actors they've courted so far. I liked Kim Sa Rang in Secret Garden. I thought her character and Oska were cute together. She was quite likable there even as a second lead. I'm hoping she gets the chance to play the lead this time as, like many others here, I think she deserves a chance.
