Masked Prosecutor loses Ohn Joo-won, gains Eom Ki-joon

In a bit of a bad news/good news deal, we have Masked Prosecutor losing one of its supporting actors, Ohn Joo-wan (Punch, Surplus Princess), though it’s signing on Eom Ki-joon (Golden Cross) to replace him. So while I wish Ohn Joo-wan the best in recovering from the health issue that took him out, I can’t be too sad about the actor switcheroo.
A rep from Ohn Joo-wan’s company explained that several days ago, Ohn was hospitalized after he collapsed from dizziness while working on shoots. According to the hospital, the cause was extreme vertigo caused by accumulated exhaustion. He was prescribed a month of rest, and thus had to leave the show. (In an example of why you can’t ever fully trust these canned press announcements, the rep explained that they were searching for a replacement but had found no success, only to have Eom Ki-joon announced almost immediately as said replacement. Ha.)
The role is of an elite prosecutor who’s a core member of a powerful group of fellow prosecutors; he’s on the fast track to success and has never really faced defeat or difficulty. (So… is he playing his Golden Cross character all over again? Maybe a little less evil this time?)
Eom Ki-joon’s character will also provide a rivalry with the drama’s hero, Joo Sang-wook, who’s sort of a Bruce Wayne-meets-Vampire Prosecutor type of guy—in his day job as a prosecutor, he’ll act materialistic and glib as his cover identity, and then by night he’s all flying fists and righteous anger as he fights against the injustices he can’t fix via the system. This drama will also be reuniting Eom Ki-joon with Kim Sun-ah (they were in Scent of a Woman together, where he played her childhood classmate and then oncologist), although as a second lead, poor Dr. Poopy-seok is destined to miss out on the girl’s affections yet again. You poop your pants once and you never live it down, huh?
Masked Prosecutor has already shot its teaser, but I suppose they’ll have to redo some shoots to work in the new guy. The drama is set to follow Unkind Women in May.

I enjoyed Eom Ji Koon in Ghost so I'm not too disappointed by the switch! I do hope that Ohn Joo Won recovers well, though.
I'm really looking forward to this drama! Hopefully it's the good fun it sounds like it will be.

Wow the evil dude from Ghost. Now that's a bit of a flashback. He was such slime in that show it will be interesting to see him in something else.
I'm relieved that Ohn Joo-won is just recuperating from fatigue and didn't get diagnosed with a sudden brain tumor (knock wood!). I think he was really good in Surplus Princess and he and his costar from that show announced they are dating (so cute!!).

Extreme vertigo sounds bad :(. Glad to hear that he left the show to take care of his health. I hope he takes more than a month off.

It is interesting to see whether he will be his cold Phantom/Ghost type, or whiny cute pouting villain as in Golden Cross. Now I just hope the storyline will be as great as the casts

Love eom ki joon at whathever project I watch him, especially when he act as someone nice or awkaward. He is adorable as dr. Poopy pants and teacher in dream high.

So now after Golden Cross he's a replacement again... Why Kijoon Whhyyy??? Then again, maybe this one suits him more than the Hong Sisters drama...

My mother had/has vertigo. The first time was over 30 years ago. Caused by, extreme stress. In those days the treatment was rest and valium. Sounds a lot like anxiety which is what they are calling it today. She gets so dizzy she almost passes out or throws up. Poor dude, his body just said " hold up dude enough is enough". He'll have to watch his stress level forever now probably. Job hazard for an actor.

He whipped off his shirt in an early episode of Surplus Princess to do some morning push-ups and he was really ripped. Like, wayyyyy more than you would expect. I think these upcoming actors are facing a lot of pressure to have extreme gym bodies and sometimes there's a big physical toll from that, especially if you're going for a super-low bodyfat % so you look extra good onscreen. I would not at all be surprised if he was working out like crazy because of the new role, and having pressure since SP got canceled mid-run. Those factors probably really played into stress, etc.

The last thing I saw him in he played a dastardly newspaperman in the Lee Joon Ki series "Hero" - terribly good-looking, but rotten to the core (he was also a second lead, so didn't get the girl, but even I was fine w/that, cause his character was such an awful one.)

Agree! His acting is very good, but I think I read his interview that he prefers villain character in dramas? Though he is always first lead in his musicals

Anyway, always good to have Oppa on my small screen again, and thank goodness I don't have to hate Ohn Joo-wan's character all over again!

Exactly. He was a straightforward and a bit haughty business man. Really liked him in that role, wouldn't mind his prosecutor character to resemble the GC one.
