Byun Yo-han in talks to join Six Flying Dragons

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an actor skyrocket to fame so quickly, but I’m happy for Byun Yo-han, who followed up his star-making role in Misaeng with the soon-to-premiere Ex-Girlfriend Club, and is now in talks to join another drama right afterward, the SBS historical drama Six Flying Dragons. When you’re on a hot streak, who has time for sleep?

Six Flying Dragons is the sageuk from the Tree With Deep Roots writers (also Queen Seon-deok) and is set in the time of a newly founded Joseon dynasty. Kim Myung-min was recently offered the role of Jung Do-jeon, a man instrumental in helping Joseon’s first king (Yi Seonggye, also known as Taejo) establish the new nation. An offer’s currently out to Yoo Ah-in to take the role of Yi Bang-won, Taejo’s ambitious son who became the nation’s third king, Taejong (and father to Sejong).

Byun Yo-han is up to play a skilled swordsman and the older brother to the heroine (who is yet uncast). He’s the bodyguard to Jung Do-jeon, which I suppose puts him in natural conflict with Yi Bang-won, whose ideas of governing a nation clashed fundamentally with Jung. Basically, we’re looking at a Kim Myung-min–Yoo Ah-in showdown, and I want a front-row seat. (That is, of course, if everybody accepts their offers, since they’re all being cautious in their “we’re still considering” statements.)

Six Flying Dragons is planning to begin shooting in June, to air in October after True Romance (formerly Chaebol’s Daughter). Byun Yo-han, meanwhile, will be busy headlining Ex-Girlfriend Club through the end of June. Ack, that’s a rough schedule! But with Six Flying Dragons shaping up to be one of the big buzz projects of the year, maybe it’s worth the sacrifice?

Yes. And I would say, his acting is comparable to SJK. He was a scene-stealer in Misaeng. I've also seen his movie Tinker Ticker. I love the way he acts there, never mind the plot of the movie. :-)

Yeah for some reason while watching the 4 min teaser for Ex-girlfriend's he did remind me of Song Joong Ki, he has that charisma and for some reason I was getting innocent man flashbacks.

I dunno.....I've only seen him in Misaeng so I don't know if he has any range. I think there are definitely pros and cons to skyrocketing to fame.

Now I will have to watch this drama! I can't NOT watch any drama that Byun Yo-han acts in. I'll definitely check this out, just for him!

Bodyguard to Jung Do Jeon, then I guess it makes him Lee Bang Ji, Kang Chae Yoon's teacher in Tree With Deep Roots.

Casting looks great so far, I hope the actors accept these offers!

Head writer Kim Young-Hyun is usually the exc producer in almost all her projects so she has a say in who she wants to play the characters in her dramas.

She has done well casting talented A-listers with memorable performance like Go Hyun-jung (Lady Mishil in QSD). Go Hyun-jung also won the Daesang Grand Award for QSD. Han Suk-Kyu as King Sejong in Tree with deep roots. This might very well be Kim Myung-min's year.

Please please accept it. Love all the male casts. Stellar acting. No idols please...especially the female lead. Please cast someone worthy with Yoo Ah In

YES to this !! Byun Yo Han, Yoo Ah-in, Kim Myung-min possibly in long project together, where do I sign for this to happened !!!! The schedule for Byun Yo Han seems a little tight though. *crossing my fingers* for a confirmation from these three and a stellar female lead !!!

re: his schedule, Ex-Girlfriend's Club will be done by late June, and this drama isn't airing till September.

so there's a clean two month gap there, he won't have to dump EGC or compromise its schedules if he wants to do Six Flying Dragons (and I don't think he's playing the lead if that offer went to Yoo Ah-in).

oops I made a mistake, looks like there may be some overlap in the schedules but thankfully he's not the lead in SFD, which ---> a lot less screen time and not having to screw over a currently airing drama.

I'm so glad to see him doing well, makes me feel like a proud noona :)

(please tell me he doesn't have to go to the military any time soon, he's an '86er right? We can't lose him when we only just discovered his awesomeness!)

For god's sakes, say YES!
I would watch all of the eps, I promise (to try) (as long as they have good conflict that lasts longer than the first 20 eps)

Please!!

I don't normally like the big long sageuks, but if Kim Myung Min and Yoo Ah In both sign on, I will have NO CHOICE. I will HAVE to watch that =)

I just hope the team is able to shoot at least half of the episodes with a four-month head start. It seems like a lot of dramas squander their lead-in time.

If Producers have the star power, this sageuk will have the acting power. Really good actors in one drama are hard to come by. I hope they all accept.

I hope he can choose his projects wisely. And that he keeps getting film offers too, because he's got the acting potential to have a film career too.

I bet this is huge production judging from the cast. What an overflowing acting talent we have here. Yeah! for Byun Yo Han, finally we get see him in big 3 channel. Owh thank god his already done military (reading from some comment here). Its such a waste if he gone for 2yr that his career still blooming. Hope he will play another memorable character here too (talk about his scene stellar in Misaeng that put him in the map)
Out of topic, he is good friend with Jisoo , I guess they influence each other since their acting skill is A++. What a bunch talented friends, hope see them more in varied roles.

If he's Jung Do-jeon's bodyguard, then he's the best swordsman in all Joseon (following Tree, not the actual history)? Awesome! I hope they all say yes. OMG

Absolutely love this guy and I'm looking forward to Exgirlfriend Club!

He has a good eye for work too. Even his indie films were pretty alright.

Dear Catastrophe, The Night Of The Witness, No Tears For The Dead, Tinker Ticker, Cold Eyes, Misaeng, Socialphobia... Seen them all ^^

I saw Ticker Tinker and he was soooooooooooooooooo good. And any drama with Yoo Ah-in and Byun Yo-Han would have me in the front seat. Not sure I'm feeling Ex-girlfriends' club but will see.

Can I ask how you saw Ticker Tinker, Carole? I've been searching high and low and so far I've got nothing. I really want to see it, mainly because I heard the acting of the leads were great, even if the plot was a little dicey lol. Did you watch the movie at a festival or something?

Never mind, I found a link almost immediately after I asked. It's weird, because I've been looking on and off for months, and in the end it was comically easy to find..
