Popular fantasy web drama Love Cells gets a sequel

The web drama Love Cells was such a big hit last year that it’s getting a second season, and has secured Kim Yoo-jung (Angry Mom) to return, reprising her character of Nebi.

The series depicts a cute fantasy-romance story of a perpetually alone slacker, named Dae-choong (which pretty much means “meh”), who’s about to lose his last “love cell” from disuse — the cell literally escapes his body because it would rather fight for a way to survive than face certain death in his body. That’s because he’s got no game, no friends, no real drive to do anything — he says he has no use in the world, not finding anything to live for but also not caring to do much to change his situation.

Dae-choong gets helped by Nebi, the love cell that escapes, which gets eaten by a cat and manifests as a sassy human girl. I know, it’s weird, just go with it. Nebi decides to aid him in striking up a romance with a girl far out of his league, giving him a love life and herself a life.

The first season of Love Cells was a huge success, no doubt bolstered by a few choice guest appearances by stars like Woo-bin and Jang Hyuk. With 15 short and sweet episodes and a quirky fantasy touch, it’s easy to see how it amassed a following and scored another run. Love Cells 2 is planning to release later this year.

That's exciting because the end made no sense.

I hope it's a continuation but I heard it's gonna be a separate storyline with Nebi staying sorta like Lets Eat 2.. I hope the rumor isn't true...

Ughhhh. I hope that's not a new trend, using one character from a previous drama in a completely new setting. Unless she's playing a different Nebi, I guess.

Wasn't this something Korea watched on cell phones? Is there a way to watch that's not on a phone, with subs?

That's nothing to smile about, myasiantv isn't licensed to show the content IIRC. That means you watched it illegally, DramaFever purchased the license however.

Sheeez, take a chill pill. Such a rude exclamation. Then where do you suggest to watch in a country where Dramafever is not available?

Not everyone lives where DramaFever is available. Just putting it out there.

Such an unyielding user. Where I live many streaming sites are unavailable, and those working have spyware and other unpleasant stuff, so I use torrents or crappy quality youtube if my ratio is low

To be honest, I watched the first few episodes and had to drop the drama midway because I found it kind of boring and not at all my thing, but I'm sure there are many who found it entertaining.

Same here. I dropped it after 2 eps cos it made no sense to me, but then maybe it wasn't supposed to.

It's a really cliche version of Pygmaleon and Galatea/My Fair Lady (plus a couple of k-dramas I can't remember) or even Cyrano de Bergerac. Person tries to make another person more attractive but ends up falling instead. Nothing new and been done several times before.

But there are a lot of us who love these kinds of story. We just watch it for the cute.

Skim through the first ep and dropped it by the second ep. I've seen other web dramas and they were fairly better.

It was cute (watched it in Dramafever), not sure it merits a sequel but also why not?

With its premise, it really should have been zanier than it was. It had its moments, but it mostly followed the typical rom-com formula, then threw in a wacked-out ending (in terms of progression, the end game itself was expected). Mostly it made me realize how unnecessary it was for most dramas to be an entire hour. And that Baek Sung-hyun is overdue for a main lead.

yeah, you can cut out a lot of filler nonsense and still get a cute story in 15-45 minutes.

And Baek Seung-hyun/Nam Ji-hyun (the idol not the actress) were unexpectedly charming in their roles. Totally agreed on BSH being ready to move to leading man status, he's really good.

It indeed should get season 2 since we were left with a question about the Love Cell hunter's secret aka Kim Woobin.

I actually found it pretty boring at first (From ep 1-3). But held on since Kim Yoo Jung was in it, and I'm actually glad that I did since it was really cute.
And now there's a Sequel?
Bring it on!
I would like to know why Woo Bin became a Love Cell hunter and hear Jang Hyuk talk and not just flail and do karate stuffs. XD Though it was really funny seing him do that. Hehe.

Aouch. Really ? Because I saw the webtoon, and I zapped all the way through. It was badly acted, badly directed... It was kinda cheap. Didn't like it at all. And with the end... how are they gonna do a second season ?

I wasn't TOO big on love cells, although I did watch it, so I'll look forward to the sequel. but I guess I'll try to keep my expectations low... I have my fingers crossed in hopes they don't use kim yoo-jung to play nebi's role in a repeat of season one but with otherwise new characters. that story's been played out & it wouldn't be fun IMO, especially when there are some loose threads that the show could elaborate on to keep it fresh.
