I Remember You: Episode 10

The most unlikely group of Three Musketeers find themselves being roped into working together on the same case—two heads is better than one, but in this case, three hits the sweet spot. At least their elevated IQs make up for their slightly lacking EQ, making them quite the unexpected Dream Team.
EPISODE 10: “Find Me”
Ji-an is knocked out cold by the two kidnappers while Team Leader Kang suffers a knife stab to his gut. Unconscious, Ji-an is loaded into the car, and Fat Guy Kidnapper mutters their destination to his lady assistant. They quickly drive away, leaving Team Leader Kang bleeding in the garage.
Back at Hyun’s cozy lunch party, Joon-ho comments that Hyun’s cooking is always spot-on for his taste buds. Lawyer Jung observes that the two must often eat together and Joon-ho simply explains that it’s because they’re neighbors.
Lawyer Jung has taken on the case of the body transporter, and Hyun details his original intention to investigate a corpse-less murder. Lawyer Jung pokes holes at Hyun’s description — without a corpse, it would merely be a “suspected murder.” Hyun concurs, and Joon-ho jokes that all this talk about murders make for lovely mealtime conversation.
Myung-woo reads the note that Team Leader Kang left behind, which reveals nothing about the location he and Ji-an went to. Luckily, Team Leader Kang rouses in the garage, and barely ekes out Ji-an’s name in a phone call to Myung-woo. But before he can reveal his location, he fades back to unconsciousness.
The team traces Team Leader Kang’s cellphone location, and finds him motionless in the garage. Thank goodness he’s still breathing, although Ji-an is nowhere to be found. Her phone is also turned off, and Deputy Chief Kang commands them to find Ji-an at all costs. Eun-bok follows Team Leader Kang in the ambulance, while the other two attempt to find some leads regarding Ji-an’s disappearance.
Their first target is Victim 1’s boyfriend, and Myung-woo demands to know where his younger brother (kidnapper Jae-shik) and his car disappeared to. Boyfriend in incredibly unhelpful, snarking back that the police should be looking for the culprit instead of wasting time interrogating him. Seung-joo grabs Myung-woo in a back hug to hold him back from resorting to violence, and Myung-woo recalls that Team Leader Kang followed this lead because of Hyun’s information.
Dinner conversation moves on from corpses to a list of composers labelled “victims of the tenth symphony,” because they all passed away after their ninth. The number nine strikes Hyun as particularly interesting, since there were also nine beads on the body smuggler bracelet (corresponding with nine bodies he transported). So either the tenth one is unfinished, or never existed. In his head, he thinks, “Either this is an act by you two, or a third party. No matter what, there won’t be a tenth murder.”
Joon-ho likens it to the curse of nines (a superstition that ages ending in the number 9 tend to be extra unlucky), and notes that baseball also has a ninth inning. But Lawyer Jung cryptically states that baseball has an extension beyond the ninth. I’m sure there’s ten more layers of subtext going on here.
Hyun receives a call from Myung-woo, and his expression hardens when he hears that Ji-an is in trouble. The two dinner guests look on with unreadable expressions, and they cut short their tea session to assist in the investigation. Cue: Most Silent Car Ride Ever.
Hyun arrives at the kidnapping scene, and Myung-woo immediately pounces on him for leading Team Leader Kang and Ji-an into a trap. Hyun keeps his emotions in check and asks for the kidnapper’s brother, who is then interrogated by a very intimidating and perceptive panel of Hyun, Joon-ho, and Lawyer Jung.
The panel takes turns offering observations and conjecture: Older brother seems to have little to no concern for his sibling, and in fact, constantly looks down on Jae-shik. Suffering from an inferiority complex, Jae-shik took his brother’s girlfriend as his first victim. It’s likely that Jae-shik was lusting over his brother’s girlfriend and was a peeping Tom (taking hidden camera footage). In the end, his complex, coupled with anger at his brother, drove him to become obsessed with his murders and the vicious cycle began.
Hyun notes that the murder seems to be well-planned, since the hostages’ holding place is well-hidden. Lawyer Jung offers to look into the family’s real estate holdings, but Hyun already learned that most of the real estate left to the second son has already been sold off.
Ji-an wakes up in a warehouse, where she’s locked together with the other victim, who was also Myung-woo’s blind date. Victim Hyun-sook is relieved that Ji-an’s with the police, although not that encouraged by the fact that Ji-an’s similarly helpless. Ji-an recalls that there were two culprits who ambushed her, and guesses that since Team Leader Kang isn’t here, he must have been left behind in the garage.
Ji-an asks for more information regarding the kidnappers, and surprised to hear that there’s a lady involved.
Using triangulation, Hyun marks out the area of probable hideouts. Joon-ho shoots down the possibility that Jae-shik would use his brother’s property given the animosity between the two, although Lawyer Jung begs to differ, seeing it as a plausible act of defiance.
Hyun deduces that there’s an accomplice involved, acting as driver in the speedy getaways. If there was a second person, that also explains how the victim’s faces were wiped clean, and Hyun hones in on the kidnapper’s secret girlfriend. She fits the bill.
Jae-shik’s girlfriend approaches Ji-an, who shrinks back when she tries to touch her face. Thinking back to Hyun’s earlier profiling, Ji-an supposes that the woman cleaned the victims’ faces out of guilt, and the girlfriend agrees that she felt pity for the victims.
Encouraged by this sign of humanity, Ji-an tries to appeal to her sympathies by painting herself and the other hostage as people with friends and family. She pleads with the girlfriend to help them out, although all the girlfriend does is creepily walk over to the other hostage to trim her nails — she’d accidentally scratched Jae-shik, so she has to be “cleaned.”
Deputy Chief Kang and Chief Hyun anxiously wait outside the operating room, and the doctor comes bearing good news that Team Leader Kang’s condition is under control. The knife avoided the major organs, so other than a mild concussion and minor fractures, there’s nothing to be worried about.
In a moment of vulnerability, Deputy Chief Kang lets slip a few tears, and repeats his thanks for his son’s safety before slapping his trademark stoic expression back on. Aww.
He perches worriedly over Team Leader Kang when he awakes, and is adorably annoyed that the first thing out of his son’s mouth is Ji-an’s name. Team Leader Kang berates himself for not protecting Ji-an properly, and although he recalls hearing the kidnappers mention a location, he can’t recall the words due to his concussion. He gets so worked up that he begs the doctor to do anything — even cut his head open — since those memories hold the key to Ji-an’s location.
Ji-an gives the other hostage some advice on how to deal with their captors: Don’t defy or cave in to the kidnappers’ requests, pretend to be on their side, and don’t let them see your fear. Acting like everything’s okay will confuse the perpetrators, increasing one’s chances of survival. Behind Ji-an’s bravado, she worries, Hyun, am I doing this right?
When the other woman brings up the possibility that no one will ever find them, Ji-an is absolutely confident that someone will find them no matter what, referring to Hyun. And on the other end, Hyun has full faith that Ji-an will come out alive. Aw, you two.
In the meantime, Eun-bok has found a property owned by the creepy girlfriend that falls within the triangulation zone. It’s a junkyard a little out of the way, and Hyun & Co. immediately make their way there.
Jae-shik approach the two hostages and matter-of-factly states, “When a new one arrives, the old one has to go.” He leans toward the first hostage menacingly, and Ji-an volunteers to be the first target. Jae-shik insists on following the proper order, and doesn’t fall for Ji-an’s distraction tactics. That is, until Ji-an throws out her conclusion that he’s sexually impotent, based on evidence of indirect sexual assault on the victims. From the look on his face, she hits the nail right on the head.
Ji-an continues goading him, mentioning that it’s not the first time she’s seen the likes of such sexually challenged criminals. She insinuates that he compensates for his disability by bulking up on his size. Her tactic works, and Jae-shik moves to target her instead.
Team Leader Kang finally recalls the destination he overhead from the kidnappers, and informs Hyun about it. Turns out that it’s the same place that Hyun suggested and Joon-ho announces that Hyun won (since Joon-ho earlier suggested another location), although Hyun responds that he wasn’t playing a game.
Jae-shik gets violent with Ji-an in the junkyard, and her skills are unfortunately no match for his formidable size. She gets thrown around like a rag doll, but thank goodness Hyun & Co. finally make it to the junkyard. They spot the girlfriend outside, who tearfully explains to Joon-ho that she didn’t know about Jae-shik’s murderous tendencies at first.
Hyun and Lawyer Jung run ahead to find the hostages, and arrive just in time to pull Jae-shik away from strangling Ji-an. Hyun checks on Ji-an, Lawyer Jung jumps in to fight the murderer, and then the two brothers take turns covering for each other. They deliver the final one-two kick together to knock out Jae-shik.
Outside, Joon-ho listens to the girlfriend explain how she was too scared to disobey Jae-shik, but he doesn’t buy her words, claiming to be excellent in reading people. He stares intently at her while taking small steps towards her, and in her fear, she shakily points a gun at him. Nonetheless, Joon-ho is nonplussed, smiling at the gun’s barrel.
But when Myung-woo and Seung-joo arrive on scene to disarm her, Joon-ho pretends to have been scared out of his wits. Hm. The two kidnappers are handcuffed and brought away, while Myung-woo is reunited with his blind date. Lawyer Jung looks on in slight jealousy as Hyun helps Ji-an to walk, and she subsequently faints in his arms.
She lands in the hospital, and wakes up to find literally everyone peering at her. She covers her face in embarrassment, but thanks them for her concern. Upon spotting Team Leader Kang, she asks about his injury, and he smoothly boasts that a stab wound is a badge of honor for a policeman, though he cringes at his own cheesiness.
Not forgetting her saviors, she expresses her thanks to Lawyer Jung and Joon-ho, before sneaking a look across the room at Hyun. He looks away, pretending to be all unconcerned, but a little grin forms on his face. Ugh, are you guys allowed to be this cute?
Hyun follows Lawyer Jung and Joon-ho out of the ward, expressing his gratitude for their help, and Lawyer Jung replies that it was fun. Hyun hopes that they can meet under such circumstances more often in the future, since he wants to know them better.
Myung-woo is stuck in the interrogation room with Jae-shik, who admits to everything but the torture charges. Hyun takes his turn to interrogate the girlfriend, who claims to have been ordered by Jae-shik to torture the hostages. Since she can’t even hurt a fly, the process was traumatic for her.
Hyun diagnoses this as susceptibility disorder, a mental illness commonly found in couple murderers. Following this train of thought, he wonders if Min was kidnapped by Joon-young, and under the influence of a murderer, Min suffered from this same disorder and fell prey to Joon-young’s ways.
Together with Joon-ho in the hospital, Ji-an has reached the same conclusion, thinking the girlfriend was unlucky to meet a guy like Jae-shik when she might have lived a normal life without him.
Not convinced, Joon-ho describes a hypothetical situation: If ten people are placed in identical situations, would all of them make the same choice? His point is that the girlfriend probably already had a predisposition to violence and murder.
He stills when Ji-an looks up to find Lawyer Jung bearing a bouquet of flowers, and Joon-ho briefly states that he’s seeing Lawyer Jung a lot more regularly now. The two exchange subtle looks while Ji-an admires the flowers.
Hyun-woo is so lost in thought that he doesn’t register Myung-woo trying to make a lengthy thank-you speech, and storms off to Deputy Chief Hyun’s office to find some answers. He confronts her about Joon-young, and she recalls the time that Joon-young provoked her about being a female in the conservative police force, understanding that she has to work doubly hard to rise up the ladder.
It was originally Dad’s suggestion to prohibit all communication between Joon-young and the outside world, so all visitations and letters were stopped. But Joon-young made a deal with Chief Hyun to relax that rule, in exchange for information about other criminals, which she used to boost her performance record and get promoted. She had no idea that a couple of letters and visitations would allow Joon-young to coordinate an escape plan with his accomplices, which eventually led to Dad’s death and Min’s disappearance.
Hyun’s voice grows icy cold as it dawns on him that she raised him out of guilt. He asks if she really looked for Min, and realizes from her silence that she never did. He flares up at her, remembering how he’d put all his faith in her to find his brother because he was too young to do anything. She offers a weak apology, but Hyun merely puts the blame on himself, for trusting her and not personally looking for Min. It strikes him then: I didn’t look for him.
Cut to: Lawyer Jung thinking to himself, “Why did he not look for me even once? There are no signs that he even tried to look.”
Chief Hyun opens up her safe and hands over a stack of Fishing magazines, which she received not long after Joon-young’s disappearance.
Hyun pores over the issues, and each one contains a personal ad under the name Lee Joon-young. All they list are addresses, and Hyun hypothesizes that they led to the other criminals. He also chances upon a letter from Joon-young to Chief Hyun, a poem from Kindertotenlieder that speaks of grief over a child’s death.
So, Joon-young sent that note, intending for Chief Hyun to convey the message about Min’s death to young Hyun. Hyun wonders if there’s more parts to Joon-young’s messages, and contacts the magazine to place his own ad: a copy of that same poem. Hyun thinks to himself, “Don’t you think it’s time for us to meet?”
At the same time, a mysterious person enters Hyun’s house and leaves a journal on the table.
Hyun’s friend completes the background checks that Hyun tasked him with, and curiously, he’s found no trace of Lawyer Jang anywhere — no birth record, adoption file, nothing. But he did find out that Eun-bok was from an orphanage.
Ji-an gets ready to be discharged, and she grumbles that Hyun showed his face only once. Team Leader Kang drops in to visit, and she apologizes for leaving the hospital before him. He bucks up the courage to request a visit from her, but belatedly remembers that he will be discharged the following day. Once again, he apologizes for failing to protect her, and watches her head out with a wistful look.
As she’s waiting for Aunt who’s stuck in traffic, who else would show up but our shining knight, Hyun. Ji-an bashfully accepts Hyun’s offer of a ride, and quickly tells Aunt over the phone to turn back.
They head back to his house together, and he lets her enjoy patient privileges for a day. He allows her to choose her desired menu, and she revels in the feeling of power. Lol. Unfortunately, her cheeriness is short-lived as she thinks back to her ordeal, and confides that in that moment, she really thought she was at death’s door. But thanks to Hyun, she lived to tell the tale.
The near-death experience brought to mind memories of her dad, and she wonders if he felt the same fear of death. A lot of her thoughts flashed through her mind in that short moment, and one of them was the scary possibility of never seeing Hyun again.
He takes a step closer, so that she can take a good look that he’s right in front of her. And then out of the blue, she swoops in for a kiss. Omo omo.
COMMENTS:
Dude, do something, REACT.
Before we grumble about Hyun’s reaction (or lack thereof), I think this episode hit it home for me about how in tune and similar Hyun & Co. are. It’s no doubt that they’re all extremely smart and quick on the uptake, but the way they complete each other’s sentences, complement each other’s thoughts, and are completely on the same wavelength drives home the point that there’s something that sets them apart from the others. It’s quite fascinating how well they work together despite the tense undercurrents, and only time will give us the full picture of their complicated past.
The revelation about Chief Hyun totally came out of nowhere, in a good way. She’s one of those characters I assumed to be on the periphery, and it’s astounding that she’s pretty much single-handedly responsible for Joon-young’s escape. In her greed for a quicker promotion, her little disturbance set in motion a huge ripple of events — Dad’s death, Min’s disappearance, Ji-an’s family destruction. Of course she had no intention for any of the above to happen, but it goes to show how a moment of misjudgment can cause a lifetime of regret. The only upside is that she gave Hyun and Ji-an a common enemy, which plays a part in their eventual romance?
With the truth finally surfacing, I find the situation absolutely tragic for both brothers — Hyun for realizing that he personally never lifted a finger in looking for Min, and Lawyer Jung for desperately looking for a shred of evidence that his brother even bothered looking for him. And once again, this fatal misunderstanding circles back to Chief Hyun. As a kid, I don’t blame Hyun for trusting in his guardian, although my heart goes out to Min, whose unwavering faith in Hyun got chipped at day by day, and eventually crumbled to pieces. However, it’s little clues like this that give me hope that wide-eyed, Hyun-loving Min is somewhere still in Lawyer Jung, albeit under layers and layers of jadedness.
This title for today’s episode is pretty poignant, as a desperate request from the lost to be found. It’s a line that both Min and Ji-an implicitly direct to Hyun, and it’s his burden to bear. As psychotic as Lawyer Jung is supposed to be, the new revelations help put things into perspective and allow the viewers to sympathize with his simmering resentment of Ji-an. To him, his brother never once tried finding him, but actually goes all out to look for Ji-an. Min’s own request went unheard, and it’s tough to watch someone else’s request get through to Hyun.
The case of the day is a possible eerie foreshadowing of the future, which I hope never happens, where Lawyer Jung is like Jae-shik: Both feel slighted by their brothers, and seem to be looking for ways to get revenge or seek attention. It was a notable clue when Lawyer Jung saw Jae-shik using his brother’s property as a plausible act of defiance. Instead of avoidance, both Jae-shik and Lawyer Jung yearn for vengeance and embark on the path of offense, and could their target just happen to be… their older brother’s girlfriend?
I’ll give the Show considerable props if this case is an actual foreshadowing of how Lawyer Jung intends to deal with Ji-an. I pray that I’m wrong, but it would be incredibly smart of the writer to actually follow through with it. Of course I still hold out hope for Lawyer Jung’s redemption, especially with how fully onboard he seemed to be with saving Ji-an, even getting beat up in the process. Although I must say, the way he looks on Hyun’s interaction with Ji-an gives me considerable goosebumps.
Which brings me to the final scene; kudos to Ji-an for making the first move. Hyun’s romantic feelings are still somewhat opaque, but Ji-an probably saw Hyun’s harmless flirting as a greenlight and took the gamble. We are all evidently smitten with her, and the way she stood her ground when her life was threatened proves how much of a fighter she is. If only Hyun could see it too, because everyone else already does.

but these give me some thoughts about how they portray people with different thinking with the normal one's during the rescue mission. i mean if society would have given them broader understanding in the way they think they could have been a big help in cases like these.
its amazing how could they possibly figure out pathological steps a person do having wired differently in the brain, these kind of imbalances in the way they see things and having these kind of psychological diseases.
That's just a thought since this was a script and haven't seen an actual case from these. It's like Criminal Minds series. Psychologist anyone there...

in the hospital, even with a room full of boys it was easy to find the one that's missing coz he is ulltimately the only one you want to see,right? oh, so cute, and he was there out of the frame but just the same.. he knows she would be looking for him (shows a satisified smirk).
This kiss was somewhat similar to the Master sun's kiss and he did not return that kiss. Let's see if he would react, oh the excitement for ep.11! when and if he does, I hope you're prepared Cha Ji An coz Seo In Guk can kiss and make you forget everything. (see: answer me 1997 and King of high school).
So will he or won't he? Bets, anyone?

I bet that he won't return the kiss next episode and the two will be very awkward about it. Actually Hyun will be more awkward than JiAn, or he'll tease and embarrass JiAn about it (but will secretly touch his lips and smile in true k-drama style). He will kiss for real later on though but I doubt it's next episode haha

am never a seo in guk's fan... knowing that he does act well... like his portray in King's Face. yeah.. 1997 is forgetable in me...
but i guess, he does really leave an impact here at I.R.Y. (i remember you)... he is really good in playing cool wounded reserved soul saved by the brave heroine's unwavering persevering approaches... at least these OTP draw me out of my "post Healer syndrome".

That kidnapping scene sequence, including Joon Ho's private interrogation was so well done. Joon Ho had his crazy eyes out and it scared the beejesus out of me, wonderful acting from the girlfriend too.
Who can also miss Min's silent stares towards any affection Hyun gives to others, specifically Jian...I feel like he's going to attack her again - she's like a walking target for his jealous rages.
Also need more scenes of the 3 psycho geniuses together, that triangle deduction they did of the criminal's brother was pretty funny for me lol

“No, she’s going to survive, no matter what.” Convincing himself.
“ a person who will find us no matter what?” Ji-an also convincing herself, full of confidence her Hyeon will do so. Each of them, full of confidence that the other will fight to see each other again, each has such faith and trust for each other’s. simply loved the faith in each other that this OTP has towards each other, in dire time of danger. That in both’s danger and desperate moment, the only person they think of is only each other, that each other will live up to their expectation, and fight on for survival for each other. At least, Hyeon knew Ji-An is a fighting good wolf, loved that Writer revealed Hyeon’s trust in her like this. Loved the way, Hyeon sort of in silent admitting his cares and concerns for Ji-An before LJY and Min, as both looked on in surprise.

Joon-ho was so intriguing here. This is the first proper glimpse we've got of his current persona's psychotic-ness, and wow, he even outspooked the female kidnapper because she was all freaked out and hunched up when he gave her the creepy smile.
Someone mentioned in ep 9's thread that Joon-ho might be actively training/pushing people to their psychotic side, and this particular scene just seems to support that possibility!

I also feel like Joon-ho/young just likes to be around people like himself. A little like how Min is so single-minded about Hyun and driven by just thought him. I think Joon-ho's drive is along those lines but more generally. He's looking for his people, man.

I think Joon Ho has grown to like the power of being the puppeteer and murders by proxy. He finds people like Min and the girlfriend (did we ever learn her name?), people who have violent tendencies and he grooms them.
Manipulates them into becoming monsters ala White Christmas.

esp loved the title, "Find Me". behind the cool
Hyun and Ji-An yearned to be found, thirst to be remembered and be accepted, trusted.
loved this last scene, a quiet sweet moment after the roller-coaster of "i trust he will find me / i trust she will fight to save herself... nonetheless, what if?..."
Ji-an isn't the only one in shock thru the kidnapping saga, Hyun has his equal shares of fear. Fear of loosing someone closed to his heart, and closed to blaming himself again, for causing dangers to people near him, (just like blaming himself for dad's death).
back in his house, when she can finally be herself, and he doesnt want to hide behind his cool facade, while basking in her frank honest outpour, enjoying her for himself in quietness, the window of her raw emotions wide open as she gave no excuses for any slip of her tongues, ... on his part, he didn't peep or steal a look only, he stare straight into her frankness, even take a step closer, that moment of frankness must have touched him a great deal. so he smirk not, desire not to start another bickering section.
at any given time, a fearless raw confession of a girl's love, which man will not be moved beyond words? He, of all person, so depraved of being trusted and understood by people, draw himself closer to comfort her, ensuring her, he is right here, ..."look closely, i am staying.... will not go.."
yes, he is the smartass that can predict your next 3 steps ahead of you, but at this moment, he used his heart than his mind, i don't think he step closer to tease or flirt with her. its simply affection returned, to let her look closer at him, which infact also means he is willing to let her in, to look closer into her, looked at her as a man looks at a woman.
that softness in his eyes, started not too long ago, since that day when Ji-an told him, he isn't a Monster (ep 7), he started to desired to be looked at as a man, not just some witty gifted professor. so, he did not "calculate" in that KISS !

well well well...
we learnt, painfully, thru history that korean viewers are much diff from those International regions... be it Asians or western or even middle eastern... koreans viewers seems to like big stars pretty casts... (even if its empty plot...)
perfect example is HEALER !!!!!!
Healer suffered a lower viewer rate than those at same timing slot...
BUT i still (and we still) loved Healer, nontheless. we still missed Healer agonizingly... while waiting for my Prized DVD (which supposed to arrive my doorstep this week)... by now, who really remembers those shows that won over Healer's at Rating war?
so i WILL NOT BE SURPRISE if "I remember u" suffered same plight even when the casts can act, the plot is excellent, the characters aching your hearts ....
so just enjoy the show, and forget the rating.
"FIGHTING" to all excellent dramas that enjoy bad rating, we love them all the same~~~~!!!!!

You know but I'm starting to like the new trend of kissing in kdramas these days. They're REAL kisses and not your typical wide-eyed fish-face deer-in-headlights sort of kisses. When you do see these types of kisses (ie. Wide eyed one), they are usually earlier on in the drama as a surprise but later you get the REAL lip-moving kisses which makes it satisfying. Examples of dramas I'm taking about are: You're All Surrounded, Scholar Who Walks the Night, etc... Now I'm hoping this drama does the same too since we all know Seo In Guk can definitely kiss. It'll be a waste if they don't put his kissing skills to use ?

yeah,,, i too, loved this kinda awkward kiss... that will leave a longing after taste.. that will send the main actress into nights and nights of daydreaming about him... and he, the woody one, will kick himself for days, for not grabbing the chance to go in "FOR THE KILL'... then the itch will kills us, as we long as MORE... and finally few ep later,they really really did the real kiss.. aha.. i refered it , like this.. so i don't mind even if he stayed wooded thru out.... but i want him to miss her, and regret not "doing more."

Well, I think a lot of people who are in the TV-watching segment in Korea are like my mom. She would never watch this -- it has too much blood, and requires too much brain power. High Society she can watch while multitasking and not miss a thing, plus she has the pleasure of yelling at the characters when they do dumb stuff (which is A LOT of the time).
In America, at least we have a history of decades of shows like Law & Order, so people here are more used to stuff like IRY. Someone mentioned that KBS made this more to expand their international audience -- I hope that's true!

exactly! right on, many will not turn on even one ep to watch, just by looking at the cast, the younger ones will choose dramas based on hot stars like UEE... (oosp, she simply cannot cry, when she tried to weep, shivers travel up the spines to my forehead.... and down to my toes....) then there are loads of ahjummas that will not choose these kind of suspense drama, or witty plot... simply "i don't know what they are talking 'bout"... they like straight forward romances and inheritance fighting plots...
but i realised KBS outshines all other stations as she constantly churned out witty plot, touching characters, well chosen actors for correct roles....
never mind the koreans don't like their gems... we do!

Funny enough, I recently read an (old) article on how Korea has such a young demographic. They're in the "yuppie" stage so these people mostly prefer online viewing. It's also a population that clamors about latest trends and tweets.
From the article, I started thinking that perhaps whatever is left of the live TV audience are the ahjummas, who probably have the same preference as your mom. All in all, sad ratings. Awesome online hits and trends, though.

One thing about this show is that everything builds up on previous episodes. I think that's a drawback in terms of pullong in channel surfers and such; it's not as easy to jump into.

I freaking love this show! I loved the three guys working together..but damn I really don't like how much im coming to care for Min..I really would love or him to find redemption but I don't think the show is going to give us that..feel free to prove me wrong show! But that last scene..lol it was sooo good and then awkward as Hyun hardly moves a muscle and neither does Jian as the camera eventually pans around the room..lol it was hilarious to me at least.. :)))

LOL I usually love their scenes, but I wasn't totally jiving with the romance of this last one until she just like suddenly jumped up and kissed him.
It was more than awkward. She was just like sucking on his motionless lips as he watched her, petrified. I just love Ji-An, she's clearly so stiff after she jumps at him, but she just persistently keeps at it. So hilarious.

A theory that is most likely wrong! What if Eun bok is actually Min and lawyer is actually suffering from some psychological disorder where he is presuming Min's life incidence to be his reality. Min could have met him at the orphanage.

I *think* Hyde Jekyll Me had one case where the criminal was hypnotised into integrating the mastermind's twisted childhood memories and emotions into his own. I did think about that possibility, although I couldn't fit a way for Jeong to be 'brainwashed' into Min's feelings. Now that you brought up the orphanage, that does seem plausible... but there have been so many flashbacks that I'm very hesitant to ditch the Jeong-is-Min camp just yet.
But Eun Bok, I guess we're down for a serious plot twist there because clues about him just keep popping up. I hope he'll turn out to just have a similar past to Ji-an instead...

Thank you, bizarre65, for voicing your theory - I had the same (possibly crazy) theory. The references about Eun Bok are subtle, and given the level of writing demonstrated to date surely have some plot significance down the line. And though physically Park Bogum and the child actor playing Min have a reasonable resemblance to each other, I was struck by two side-by-side screenshots of Seo In Guk and the actor portraying Eun Bok, as they seemed to resemble each other more than SIG and PBG. I'm looking forward to seeing how the writer actually spins the tale!

Dropping by to thank Rejoycie and to say that the analogy/foreshadowing of this case is cool! I overlooked the realization of JaeShik killing his brother's girlfriend as foreshadowing... I was more obsessed with wondering whether Lee El (Jaeshik's girlfriend) was a preview of Min. Both Hyun and Jian lengthily discussed the Susceptibility Mental Syndrome thingy that I got warped into wondering, as Hyun did, whether Min has it... Hence, wondering if there's a possibility of washing Min off some of the heavier sins. The forensic guy was pretty irked at Jian's remark about how it was bad luck for Lee El to have met Jae shik. (Or should I say, bad luck for Min to have met him/LJY?) Fishy. Fishy. Or, is this another red herring being thrown into the ever-expanding pool of possibilities?

It's official. I don't buy the romance. I like a lot of other aspects of the show (including the characters in question) and I usually like my romance mixed in with some other genre(s), but now that the romance is officially off and running... yeaaaah... not buying it. In some of the less overtly romantic scenes, they're cute together, but the Romantic Scenes with a capital "R" seem rather forced.
And am I the only one who thought "holy @#*$!!! Look at Min go!!!" during the fight scene?

Yeah! I wonder if Park Bogum had some martial arts training, like SIG and JNR. I haven't seen PBG in anything else, but I like him so much in this drama, I've done some google-stalking. He sings well and plays piano too. Definitely becoming a fast favorite of mine.
I personally like the romance, I think it's progressed pretty naturally and I'm one of the ones who thinks Hyun and Jian have lots of chemistry.

Their romance reminds me a lot of Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon dynamic in The Mentalist. She's the only who gets him and accepts all of his flaws.
Hyun and Lee joon young reminds me of Patrick Jane and Red John too. He's keeping all his suspects close and monitor them closely.
Can't wait for next ep, Hyun please react to her kiss.

I liked him in Cantabile Tomorrow. Overall, the drama is mediocre, but he and Joo Won are both good in it. He's also one of there reasons I'm looking forward to Answer Me 1988.
Perhaps I'm in the minority on the romance, but I feel like Hyun has to have a dramatic shift in personality every time they segue into a big romantic scene. It never feels organic to me. It's like they pause the show, have this pointedly romantic scene that feels a little untrue to the character, and then return you to your regularly scheduled programming. I do like the chemistry they have in the smaller scenes though, like the one where they were washing the dishes.

I don't think it's a shift in personality, I think it's that Ji-an is special, in the sense of being exceptional, in his world. He doesn't have the connection he has with her with anyone else, and doesn't behave with anyone else the way he does with her. I can see how it would seem forced given how cold he is otherwise, but I buy it. He can be warm—like he was with his student, and he was with his foster mom in an early episode. He's just warm with a very few people, and Ji-an has become one of those people for him.

yeah...watched hyun and jian actual casts before.. never ever crossed my mind that i will "ship" them together... or never ever "liked" them in their original show... aha.. but i think the moving plot and the "whosoever" genus who first thought of pairing these 2 together, i kudos to her/him... because they just fix into the role like gloves.. that you can forget that she is actually the noona to him... so adorable as they arguing like Third graters .. and they find redemption in each others.... nice.

I do think he has some amount of martial arts training like most Korean actors do... he might be a little more expert or more trained... because I've noticed his fingers. His knuckles and veins esp. when he plays the Cello in Cantabile tomorrow. That hand is surely a hand which has trained a lot in martial arts.

Not a fan of this romance either, I prefer them as friends. My favorite for Ji-An is the Team Leader, hehe! He is supercute, and opposite to Hyun, I can see him longing for her. To me, Hyun has shown sympathy but not attraction towards Ji-An.
And Bo Gum also left me in awe after seeing his fighting ability, omo, this boy has everything. *-*

PBG has a small role in Runway Cop where he played the younger version of the male lead. His character got into a fight with a fellow student and it was decent fight. His shirt even gotten torn. He does not have a 6 pack, but an 8 pack. Quite impressive.

Delurking to point out that the flowers Min brought Ji-an in the hospital are, ominously, purple. And I could be reading too much into the scene, but it looked to me like Joon-ho made particular note of the flowers, too. It makes me worried for Ji-an :(

They were purple but they didn't look like the same kind. The painting of the flowers on the card, the purple flowers in the flashback to the mom, and the flowers given to victims earlier were all what appeared to be the same kind of flowers. These ones were different. I also think he wouldn't risk our lead seeing that he gave those flowers.

Yes! He (JH) did notice someting about the flowers. In previous chapters, all the dead women received purple flowers, so I do not think this is mere coincidence.

Yes, clearly that's the writer's intent, but it's hard to see an SIG kiss like that, compared to all his other roles. But it makes sense given Hyun's character.

I think he's surprised too! It's different when he initiates the skinship because he's aware of what he's doing--maybe he just wasn't expecting Ji-An to do that? It was definitely sudden. I feel like he might surprised that she kissed him and generally surprised that he's surprised, since he likes and tends to guess everybody's next move.

On a purely superficial note: I miss Hyun's previous hairstyle. The previous, more slick hairstyle looked sooooo good on him. SIG is sexy no matter what, but the hairstyle he had before made him even more sexy. Hope they bring it back. ;)

i love that sexy hair style so much, but I don't think it will be back. They did the same thing in high school king of savvy. SIG's hair was up for half of the drama, then down all the time in the second half. I don't get why he has to change the hairstyle. Hyun is a mature sexy guy and he is more so with hair up. To be fair, the man's got at least two psychos actively circling him and this is the second time he's walked in on someone beating the crap out of Ji-An. And then there's the amusement park stalker and the creepy car letter.
So while Hyun's definitely warmed up to her, he's also an analytical guy who is likely putting together the dots and wondering how much his presence is resulting in Ji-An being threatened. She's living with him now because he's worried about someone attacking her, but especially coming off of the last case where a little brother kills his hyung's girlfriend... Hyun may not want to place Ji-An in a position where she's a valuable strategic target when attacking Hyun.
So there's a lot of thinking to be done there.

Unfortunately Hyun really is the person putting Ji-An in danger. For the first attack in her apartment, there are two possible culprits: the guy imprisoned in China, or Min. If it's China guy, then he's after her because Hyun used her name for the lockup request. If it's Min, then it's because of her proximity to Hyun. Either way, it was done as a message to Hyun.
The guy slinking around taking photos could have been there for Hyun or for Ji-An, but being close to Hyun isn't a guarantee of safety.
The last attack was obviously directly related to her police work, so Hyun's pretty much in the clear, but now she's also staying in a house where a serial killer can apparently come and go as he pleases randomly leaving books on tables.

The two exchange subtle looks while Ji-an admires the flowers.
I love her straightforward character too but isn't she a bit too much clueless? She suspected lee hyeon even she was a child but after education and experience she is all friendly with her father killer. And why in the world she thinks lawyer is interested in her with pure intention really?
So i came to conclusion that she is ones that if someone is labelled as criminal she simply believes and questioning or else she is in darkness that I pity her :/

Aw, that's harsh! She judged Lawyer Jung initially pretty well though--she really warmed to him after he helped save her (to her knowledge) so hedging a bit is understandable. Plus, I think Jung/Min is really deft at going from real sincere to pure lies--in addition to all his cheerful lawyer/stony killer roles.

Rejoycie, thanks for the recap. This case might foreshadow Min future, but I hope Hyun makes it to prevent the next murder, the 10th one. He should read the journal left on his table, find clues, do smth. I hope Hyun will win over LJY's game. Ji An is awesome, as much as she is an open target for Min/ LJY, she will fight them back. Go for the kiss girl!

Every time Joon-ho does the 'I spend more time with Hyeon' angle, like the allusion to frequent meals at Hyeon's, I die a little for Min. /=
Seo In Guk did a really good job in the way he portrayed his emotions through his voice in this episode. From his clenched tone when that phone call came in from Myung-woo, to his incredulousness that the detective pair came up with nothing after interviewing boyfriend #1. He doesn't even bother putting down Myung-woo for his incompetent interrogation, because all he wants to do now is find Ji-an. And even though murder cases have seemed like a game to him in previous episodes, he was the one who coldly replied to JH in the car that getting the location right isn't about winning – it's about Ji-an.
Hyeon's usually been acting cocky in his past interactions with Ji-an, making fun of her for not using her brains enough, or couching the things he does for her as favours. But those kinda slipped away now, just as his demeanour to her has softened. He stayed at one corner of the hospital room to avoid looking as eager as the rest, but he still couldn't help smiling when she finally noticed him. And he'd just turned up to pick her up because he'd just assumed it's left to him to take care of her. And that 'magnanimous' what-do-you-want-to-eat question threw me off because there wasn't even a 'only because you're still a patient' disclaimer to it!
But more than all that, I think this episode showed us that he's come to terms himself with his feelings for her. He wasn't surprised or awkward when Ji-an confessed that her biggest fear was not being able to see him again. He just stepped even closer to her to confirm that he's right there. That's just direct flirting, without all the mock indifference.
I super love that we've turned the tables this time round, with Hyeon being the one caught off-guard when the kiss came. Is this a first for K-drama? =D It was perfect the way his eyes fluttered a little, but ugh, it was kinda ruined by the stupid frozen-kiss-with-360-degree-pan. WHY WHY WHY? I think that's my first major gripe with the PD here. >_< I hope that when the next episode recaps this scene, it'll show him responding to her kiss. Please??

Oh yes, I can't believe I forgot about Producer. Maybe it wasn't as memorable because you kinda knew it was a doomed kiss. And the whole aftermath was just awkward. )= Heh, but unlike Seung-chan, I think Hyeon can be pretty illogical when it comes to Ji-an. Giving in to her amusement park date, going out of his way to take care of her and all.
But this kiss is premediated but a growing intimacy between Ji-an and Hyeon, and I'm dyinggggggg for Monday. I hope the frozen kiss is just cut that way to be a cliffhanger. He's been pretty cheeky and flirtatious so far that it would actually be out of character for him NOT to respond.

Well actually i was hesitant to say this but since you mentioned I think he is not innocent like bsc, it is opposite so to speak ^^ As far as i see he got used to being more relaxed and was very familiar with skinship when he was America. So it seemed to me his interactions with Ji An was nothing for him but he was kinda aware of her anticipation. ah, except after being partners handshake ^^ So when he solved her (lol) and realized she is really good girl he started to adore her strong willed behavior he felt at ease and got used to being around her but that kiss was too unexpected for him so firstly he will think about how much she means for him. Acting impulsive would be more out of character.

Agreed. He really wasn't! This reminded me of the hand-holding scene. There, he outrightly said that his touch "will lessen" the disgusting feeling on Jian's hands. Boy, he must have been brimming with overconfidence to have the gall to say that stuff to Jian. But it did mean that he has always logically assumed that Jian has a thing for him. He may have started this assumption since the time she slipped and asked him out on a movie date at the park. But knowing all that, he's been teasing her here and there like a casual hobby. I just love how Jian doesn't go all candy whenever he teases. Instead, she reacts just as outrightly. No frills. He says the disgusting feeling will be lessened with his touch, she agrees. She says point blank that NOT seeing him ever is the scariest, he responds by teasing her with his face closest to hers. To which she responds with an outright kiss. Simple. No frills. I love it!
RE: Seo In Guk's acting skills. I have noticed the restraint in Seo In Guk's acting skills here. Restraint is the hardest to master and I appreciate his effort to show Hyun's emotions by the tone of his voice or the twitching of his facial muscles. I had began to feel that Hyun is a very given character at this point of the plot and it's difficult to act out a stoic character. I am looking forward to when Hyun escalates as a monster. He's got to be getting there at some point. So far, all we've got is a relatively gentler side to him.

I think I started the drama with this expectation for the enigma that is Hyun--brilliant and insightful, cold and stoic...someone not concerned with how they look to others because they know they're so much smarter. And someone who had so much pent up that the monster was destined to emerge.
But as the labeled and damaged Hyun merged, I began to expect it wasn't him who would be the monster, but the the hello would be to another monster. Perhaps it's not discovering the monster within him, but uncovering the nurturing and lonely child and man who's lived with that descriptor.

I see what you mean. In that case, his character becomes the ultimate example of a misunderstood archetype, redeemed because of Jian's "intervention" in his life. But is he really just that? Just as the character of LJY is probably driving at, I can't help but wonder if Hyun will change his persona if he experiences another tragedy... With the two-wolves book and all, I wonder if Hyun will be pushed to the edge of choices at some point. I wonder if he'll be further framed or something. One theory that held water for me was that LJY was framed in his youth and that history might repeat itself, this time framing Hyun. I've been wondering if the 9 disposed bodies at the docks will eventually frame Hyun---especially since those murders happened at the same dates he came to Korea. Something is up the writers' sleeves and I can't wait to find out about it.

Right, I also thought of that...especially the murders coinciding with the dates he was in Korea. This writing in this drama has been surprising, even if what we think is predictable, ie. Min, Joon-Ho. And there are six more episodes so plenty of things could happen with Hyun.
However, one thing I'm considering now is how this drama's description and promotion changed after Seo In Guk was cast. Not only the name changed, but I don't recall it being described as a romance nor comedic when they were considering other leads.
So it would be a bit surprising if an underlying monster emerged in him now given the developing relationship with Jian. But anything could happen...that's why this is such a great drama, something I tend to rewatch a least once before the next episode.

riarallahssi: Well-said about the restraint in his acting. Heck, as much as I love JNR's acting here, I must say that I am a teeny bit more impressed by the guys here. Both Jeong/Min and Joon-ho slip back and forth between psycho and normal modes with their eyes alone.
That theory about framing Hyeon with the coincidental murder dates is shit scary. Please, no. I'd rather it be the Min-calling-for-attention theory, please. I hate to admit it, but that possibility is high...

I loved your comment about the writer's possible way of foreshadowing what might happen in the latter part of the story. But I'm deeply hoping what happened to the Psycho brother won't be the case for Min. I mean, that may be technically brilliant story-wise but it just hurts me a lot. It will be suuuchhh a grieeef! :(
Nevertheless, 2 thumbs up for the writer's/director's drama and plot execution! The actors have also acted their characters sooooo well. I've never been this interested and ecstatic about a drama before! Sad how underrated this drama really is. I just hope it does a good job internationally as to its ratings.

Ji-an is amazing. The way she stood up to the kidnapper who had to be 3 times her size was just awesome. She was scared but she was going to do whatever she could to save the other hostage. Love her for that.
And it was kind of creepy seeing how well those 3 work together and how much they think alike. I also get the feeling that Ji-an might become a pawn in their game as it seems Lawyer Jung was very unnerved at seeing Hyun's concern for Ji-an when it appears he never showed any for him. I feel so bad for little Min; I just want to give him a hug.
And boooooooo to Chief Hyun! Look at the mess you caused! That's what happens when you make a deal with someone like Lee Joon-young who seems to thrive on playing with people's minds.

Yes! I think there's a difference between jumping into an ongoing fight to protect the weak, versus offering herself to be first in line for a death sentence. That's some dedication. I was really creeped out by the whole nail-cleaning thing, and that alone would make me think twice about putting the civilian's life before mine, because it's the twisted mind that is more disturbing than just plain ol' death.

Min is just fascinating.
Hyun knows it's him, I'm convinced. He knows it's him and mid-Jian investigation, when he firmly states that she's still alive, his expression so clearly shows a belated realization of how Min might interpret that. Hyun's keeping Min and Coroner Creepy around to watch them react to the random stimulus he throws at them, but that was a moment he did not mean to be so transparent.
And I have to think that the entire time in the car with Min is what really caused him to push on Chief Hyun: Min is the one who brings up crossing into the older brother's turf, Min is the one who hears that Hyun won't give up on Jian, and then Min is the one who sees Jian being tended to by Hyun. This isn't the ammo Hyun meant to send Min's way, and now it's out there Hyun needs to do more investigation on his side - and then he ends up with the most devastating possible news.
The poor kid was a child, he had no way of trying to track down his brother. It's heartbreaking how quickly he takes that burden on. Poor Min.

This episode makes me want answers and to have a good ending. Me thinking of the trio in a spin off. Me thinking of the OTP having live forever ending.
But to have all that then the story will end flatly disappointing as most Kdramas are.
I want more substance more gore more lurid more tense & dense plots.
With what I'm asking I don't think I can withstand all that.

Their interaction is very comfortable like a father and daughter! Its quite disturbing for me... why does she trust Joon ho's judgement?! I'm not that quite scared of Lawyer Jung when he appeared with PURPLE flowers to give to Ji an because his face shows "curiosity" on Ji an answers than anger .... while Joon ho's expression is quite sinister like a wolf and Ji an is ms little red riding hood!

well I am not "annoyed" with Ji An. I actually like her character. Even though she is just an average human being she still tried to fight like "pro" yunno she is not entirely a damsel in distress.
BUT I am "disturbed/ worried" about her interaction with Joon ho because unlike the lawyer aka Min ... we, the viewers are still unsure of his position! Is he LJY? Is he another serial killer? or just a highly intellect human being?
If he is LJY how did he form a trusting relationship with Ji an because in the previous episode Ji an doesn't trust people easily... and if Ji an trust this Joon ho and this Joon ho is really LJY ...Ji an might not actually kill him when it matters because she already formed a trusting "BOND" with this Joon ho which is a SCARY scenario for Ji an because I like her.
The scene of Joon ho peeling oranges for Ji an and discussing serial killers is giving me a deja vu. The vibe of that scene looks like Lecter and Clarice Starling from silence of the lambs. That Joon ho guy is SCARIER than Min.

Yes we are not sure about Min because i am thinking about that time he used a guy committing kill JiAn. If he is really a professional killer himself why'd he do that? Actually i do think he is not killing people directly but monitoring killer to and marking corpses just to catch LH attention. just maybe. still Prosecutor case and his martial art skills suspicious which makes him dangerous but not scariest out there. Because he himself in lost. On the other hand LJY is very aware of what he is doing which make him scariest but not dangerous for Ji An. He will not harm her i am sure about that. he can manipulate people easily and ji an kinda easy prey for him which is sad.
So i am not annoyed with her but i am annoyed with LJY behavior towards her if he DID killed his father it is just too cruel.

Oh man, I enjoyed our trio far far too much. I wish there were more episodes planned just for more interactions. I really love them. Alas, I don't really see how it can end well for them.
The cases are interesting I think because often they can be reflections on the past, present, or future. But most importantly I think they always show that one small decision or event could create a completely different scenario. What creates a "monster" isn't one single thing...but it's also not one single thing that can keep a person 'human'.
I still just really love the overall tone of this show, and how it's balancing a quirkiness with some pretty heavy subject matter.
Also all these hints about our extra police guy have be completely baffled. I have some random thoughts but nothing very solid.

Really enjoyed the trio as well. I think that´s the only way they should interact in the future. I´ve personally had enough of them tea parties where they have a pissing contest of weirding each other out, lol. Sometimes it just comes off as unintentionally funny, especially when they profess for the umpteenth time how they want to know each other better or use flower metaphors (!) for that matter. Still, love the show through and through.

I'd really like more occasions when those 3 brilliant minds get together to do a verbal character profile - we get their train of thought and it was entertaining! It was actually totally amusing, that they did their analyses right in front of their subject, dissecting his relationship with his brother and drawing conclusions without ever considering the subject's feelings (or that he could take offence LOL!) or so much as a by-your-leave, and then they suddenly quit the scene without even a bow or a nod. That was played so coolly by all three. True psychopaths!! If only they did go in for committing murder themselves, they would be the ultimate serial-killer busting dream team! :)

It was a great scene. (I actually sort of wish we'd seen that guys realization later when he learns the full truth of the situation instead of just feeling baffled and insulted). But the three of them playing off of each other was great. And in the car when H says "it's not a game" I was like....well, yeah, but you're still enjoying it. And if it wasn't Ji An you would so be in game mode.

this drama is absolutely the best right now. In the beginning I choose to watch Hidden Identity because of the synopsis more interested to me & because of team leader Jang but after few episode I already bored with their stories & stop watching it.
For I remember You, I never saw Seo In Guk acting & Jang Nara always in Comedy drama so I really not looking to watch this but after give it try I'm really love this drama. Two of them is seriously good & their acting is so satisfying. Same goes to Lawyer Jung, Jun Ho, Myung Soo & Leader Kang. I do thing EunBok have many scene after this.
Leader Kang seem have a feeling to Ji An & quite jealous with Hyun. ^_^

I too was noticing how Team Leader Kang has been shown to wish for some notice from Ji An. I felt that he looked like a boy going out for a treat when he had the opportunity to go out investigating with Ji An. I recall that when she was attacked in her home, he bothered to call her to find out if she was OK and he went to the house the next day to check on her, and even offered her his home for a place to stay.
I'm not sure if he is jealous of Hyun, but he may be. I do notice that he just wants her attention and is sad that she just sees him as the Team Leader and nothing more.

I also noticed! I find Team Leader absolutely adorable in his attempts to be closer to Ji An. He is like a high schooler with a crush, finding excuses to get her attention...I love him but sadly he does not stand a chance with Hyun :'(

The casting of Lawyer Jung and little Min is sublime.
I don't have to exercise my imagination to see Min as Jung. Which makes Hyun inability to recognize the adult Min/Jung so appropriately galling to Min/Jung.

Awwwww, PBG ur breaking my heart so much ╥_╥
Min questioning why hyung never went looking for him. Min taking care of his hyung when he offered to drive. His look when Hyun helped Ji-an walks out... was a tragic mixture of longing, resentment and jealousy. I can't even imagine what he'll engineer next, possibly what everyone's guessing - putting Hyun in a situation to choose between him and Ji-an, oof the heartbreak...
Is it really impossible to have Min and Hyun back together being brothers, living in the same house? Just look at what you've done to these brothers, Chief Hyun, and Ji-an too. How could you not expect the worst of Lee Joon-young, a psychopath murderer? A few communication with the outside world is more than enough for him to pull off an elaborate plan to escape prison AND kill someone. Well, on the bright side Hyun did met Ji-an.
I'm curious as to how the death of the boys' mother puzzle will turn out. Probably it's the missing dot to complete the mysterious constellation in Hyun's complex mind. What if the brothers' sociopath ways were sparked by their mother's death?
Oh god, I have so many questions running loose in my head about a drama when I'm supposed to focus on my work. I can't stop thinking about this freaking awesome drama, ughhh! I'll just have to start counting down Monday then

I have a small inkling.
Could Hyun's father still be alive somehow ?
Someone mentioned in the soompi forum that the corpse of Hyun's father had been removed by lee joon young but he was never was really confirmed to be dead though.
Think about it Hyun came out of the room and saw his dad in a pool of blood and we immeadiately came to the conclusion he was dead but he didn't check if he was still breathing.He could have just been unconcious even though that was a huge pile of blood.
It just my theory but it would be a shocking plot twist..

IIRC, when adoptive-mom-police came to get little Hyeon, he was sitting by himself with an injury (how did he get injured? Wasn't he safe in the locked room?) and there weren't any bodies around.

In one of the earlier episodes, it was shown that after the fight between Professor Lee and Lee Joon-young, someone unlocked the door of the room Hyun was in. When he came out, he saw the body of his motionless father on the ground, and Lee Joon-young exiting from the bathroom.
After everything had happened, Hyun tried looking for Min and saw him being taken away in a car (driven by Lee Joon-young, unknown to him) and ran after it. He tripped and fell unconscious, resulting in his head injury.
When Hyun woke up and came back to the house, the body of his father disappeared.

The show's doing a great job developing Hyun’s growing internal conflict over Min. I’m drawn in to the point of denial, when I briefly bought into pseudo-PI’s ‘Eun Bok was an orphan’ moment. And more than that, I think, the show is getting pretty close to giving Min a fair shot at actually being accepted into viewers’ hearts despite his atrocious record. Hyun’s brotherly love must be additionally burdened by his sense of responsibility for the events following their father’s death. It’s possible his childhood chat/promise with LJY in the jail cell revolved around his concerns/observations of Min. To think that Hyun has on his shoulders the likelihood LJY made use of his info to ‘upbring’/influence Min, especially in light of Hyun’s new hypothesis of Min’s ‘susceptibility disease’… aigoooo :'\
Surprisingly Min’s character was one of the bright spots in this episode. I think I could get use to Min’s sweet refrain, “it’s a relief” which he says whenever he has helped save the day/Cha Ja-in.
Was it a hole in the plot, or did I miss how they figured out who Jae-Sik’s girlfriend was?

I watched the interrogation twice, and I think we were supposed to infer that it was info from the elder brother. But that part would have really benefitted from more details, because it was disorienting to go from day to night suddenly, with the brother being so cocky and indifferent about the murderer. Even if he's not surprised, shouldn't he be indignant for his dead girlfriend, or disturbed by the number of people killed right under his nose?

I always appreciate the recaps as they really help me when I translate the subs for my hubby (he doesn't speak english).
But this time I'm quite puzzled with a scene (when Huyn's friend answers the questions about Lawyer Jung's family records). I don't think that there's nothing about him, that would be quite strange imo (he's a lawyer, he has a driving licence).
Could it be that there's nothing strange, not a single anomaly ? I really would appreciate your help with this ! Thank you so much !

Yes, Hyun's gallery friend told Hyun that Lawyer Jung doesn't have any suspicious records--- He wasn't adopted. He doesn't have even one driving arrest. It meant Lawyer Jung's identity is squeaky clean. It's confusing because we are confident that He is Min because of the paintings the he draws. If he's Min, then why was he not adopted? So either the drama is playing with us or there's a powerful person who cleaned up Lawyer Jung's records.

Couldn't prosecutor shin have been that powerful person?? I believe in the gallery friend, but Min/Jung is such a mystery, it's not so far-fetched to think he has some meticulously forged documents.
I like the mystery of Eun Bok as an addition, but I'm def crossing fingers that it isn't him. I feel like we've spent ten episodes connecting with Lawyer Jung, the last few almost explicitly connecting Jung with Min--but I feel like the brothers-storyline would be cheated a little if it was Eun Bok instead. We don't have much of an emotional connection with him anyway, and all the baggage of the story would be tied up in Lawyer-Not-Min instead. Still interesting and all, but I like this brother story more!

I'm definitely on the brother ship too. I just know that Min is the lawyer. It feels right. Eun Bok could be a red herring, or by an epiphany that I just realized through :katshirou:'s comment below, could it be that Eun Bok switched identities with Min? Is perhaps Eun Bok connected to the powerful professor Shin?

is Eun Bok Joon Young's biological son? He was sent to an orphanage because of family circumstances, and Joon Young was dissatisfied because he wasn't "special". So he sought out a suitable heir/minion, and found Hyun and Min. But then again it doesn't seem plausible because of the character's ages.

Cha Ji An soared fast and destroyed my bias list of favorite female leads, placing herself as my now #1 heroine, a position I previously gave to Chae Young Shin of Healer. I love tough women who can stand tall and fight, though sometimes enemies give them double hard times when the tough girls fight back.
I feel so wrong for cheering hard when the brainy Three Musketeers were formed, with one side of brain shouted "YEAAY!!" while the other side screamed "Watch out, Hyuun!". With two murderers on your gang, you'll never know when they stab your back while smiling.
And the last... the kisssssss!!!! OMOOOOO!!!! HYUN, YOU BETTER MOVE YOUR LIPS NEXT EPISODE OR I'LL BE REALLY MAD. It's not time for Park-Shin-Hye kiss, and the Seo In Guk I know has been well-known as a great kisser. I allowed you to enjoy a shock for a while, but I DEMAND a lengthy response after that. In bed or on the floor, I don't mind.

Symbolism and foreshadowing aside, today's case reminds me a little of that Criminal Minds episode where a girl pretended to actually be a victim of a torture show but is actually the part of the organizers and criminals behind the torture show.
That aside, I am loving Bogummie oppa more and more every episode. I feel his pain watching his hyung care and seriously finding Jian when he grew up hoping to see at least little effort from Hyun to look for his younger brother. At that, Hyun truly is at fault for not trying. He was probably too fixated on LJY, which I don't blame him doing since they had those unforgettable conversations about monsters and secrets and maybe perhaps tips on growing up handsome since young LJY (oh, Kyungsoo oppa your little screentime steals my heart) and current Hyun as well as current Min are definitely eye candies. Hahahaha. Joke.
Anyway, I am excited for the opening scene of Ep 11. Will it be immediately after the kiss? Or a few hours or days ahead? GYAAAAH! CJA is definitely one of the best female leads in drama history!

Well, it's sort of Hyun's fault for not personally looking for Min, but it's totally understandable. As a young kid, there was no way he would have the resource to look for a person, and it was very reasonable for him to trusted his foster mother who was his father's good friend and a police officer with manpower, to do the searching for him. And now, he has grown up and he started to look for Min. I don't think we can really blame him on that.
About the mystery of Eun Bok, is that possible Min and Eun Bok's IDs have been swapped? But they are not babies when the incident happened, it would be very difficult to do that when one of them had a family. I'm so puzzled

Also that tidbit mystery on Eunbok (oh Seungwon oppa, I lurve you)... at this point, the show has established SH is definitely Min... so how Eunbok fits in the main story of Hyun-Min-LJY, I hope it's big because of all the mysteries around EB, from the list of people Hyun asked for to his adoption.
My current theory is Eunbok may have become Min 2.0 under LJY. Perhaps deadman Prosecutor Shin had helped Min get away from LJY eventually, and he cleaned SH's records so Hyun's Art friend foubd nothing because deadman ahjussi helped SH have a fresh start and clean history on paper. He did tell a story before hand about a kid coming to him personally to tell his story. Maybe that kid was Min. Then when Min left, LJY found Eunbok? Do excited at the prospect that Seungwonnie might play a bigger role in the next episodes.

Super love this drama, it's eerie, poignant, romantic in some... All in all well executed, might be wrong to say it but it's the first time I'm liking the creepiness of the lawyer Jung and Joon ho, some creepiness of Hyun!!
Love Ji an, a heroine that does not need protecting. She is bad ass herself, cuteness is out of the window.

I am still under the impression that what Hyun can't remember is that his little brother has been a psycopath the whole time. When his dad caught him burying the dog and hyun said "it was dead when I found it" is because Min killed it. The drawings are all done by Min and he blames them on his hyung to Dad. I think the promise that Joon Young made w/Hyun had something to do w/helping fix his lil bro. Dad mistakenly puts all the blame on Hyun for being crazy and Hyun starts repressing those memories. So... I think Min is nuts. Likeably nuts. Like Dexter, but more adorable.

actually i've always thought those brain pictures were drawn by Hyun because i think he's aware of this brother's psycho tendencies and is curious how his brain works to make him that way. that's why he's fixated on drawing the human mind. i think it's his way of trying to or wanting to understand his brother.

At the end there Jang Nara really wowed me with her acting. While revealing her true feeling, her eyes... they were just brimming with emotion, I could feel it.
She kept looking at Hyun with that gaze prodding him to action, and then she just couldnt keep it in anymore and went for the kiss herself. LOVE IT!
I swear, Ji An is making me squeal more than any of the guys in this drama lol!

Loving this show so much that I now want to watch seasons of Criminal minds and Bones that I missed.
I kinda kept hoping Hyun would show more panic at her disappearance and maybe hug and spend loads of time with her immediately after the kidnapping it's good this drama isn't following the usual drama tropes but I can't say I wasn't dissapointed.

That thought did occur to me for the simple reason that if he is such a flawed individual and cannot be redeemed because he has become so evil, the only recourse of the show might be to have him die. If not, Hyun will be so broken, so guilt-ridden, and yes... even ready to take the wrap as he did for little Min.
If Min dies to save someone... Hyun? or Ji An?... he gets a stab at partial redemption and he does not have to face the full consequences of his crimes. It will be painful but have more of a resolution, giving more peace and less painful than having him alive and incarcerated for life.

But... I don't think Min is the kind of person who will be broken by incarceration. He's quite steely, other than when it comes to his beloved brother. Couldn't it be like in Pinocchio, where the incarceration is understandable and inevitable, but at least there's closure and the brothers can focus on rebuilding their relationship?

Is it too soon to say – what a wonderful show!!! Will I have to eat my words? Somehow I don't think so.
I’m really enjoying this show, no holds barred... no reservations about the motives of the leads, no holding back loving the main characters who’ve stayed true to form, no need to sigh over incomprehensible stupidity or glossed over plot holes, and no need to use tropes to create plot.
I’m basically getting everything I hoped I would:
- A really good crime-mystery with a romance enmeshed.
- An OTP who came about naturally, who can communicate truthfully (need I mention another show where that’s not happening?), who can work as a team, who trust and depend on each other.
- Police who actually are smart as well as funny, effective as well as flawed and who make a great back-up team to the OTP
- Villains who are compelling and extremely smart, reveals and mysteries smartly given to us at the right times, interesting crimes that add to our knowledge of how so many big characters interact and think and feel.
- Crimes that give us foreshadowing of what could come
- A romance that is given enough attention so that viewers get to grow more invested in it, moving slowly along with Hyun in this, and enough time is given to it, for it to blossom.
I like how this is so well written, that hardly anything depends on coincidence, everything flows well and the pace is well maintained. I cannot get enough of this good thing!
