Lee Seung-gi, Shim Eun-kyung pair up for sageuk romance

Shim Eun-kyung (Cantabile Tomorrow) had been mentioned previously as a possibility for headlining the movie Compatibility, and now she’s confirmed signing on and has also scored a co-star in Lee Seung-gi (You’re All Surrounded). This should make for a fun sageuk romance pairing, coming from the makers of the entertaining box-office hit Face Reader.

The title (gung-hab) refers to a specific kind of fortune-reading that indicates a pair’s marital compatibility; it remains a popular practice today for couples before they get married. This will be the second in a planned trilogy of movies from Jupiter Films that began with 2013’s box-office hit Face Reader, and continues the pattern of taking fortune-telling as a central motif.

The movie centers around a princess (played by Shim Eun-kyung) who is expected to wed according to her station—and according to her fate, since her husband candidates will be selected according to their compatibility readings. However, she refuses to accept that fate and insists on finding her own partner, even daring to slip out of the palace to do so.

There will be four candidates presented as potential husbands, each with his own different fate; tasked with the responsibility of husband selection is a royal fortuneteller whose talents are much renowned. That’ll be Lee Seung-gi’s role, and I anticipate much angst will ensue when the princess and the fortuneteller fall in love instead. I can see how both roles call for a range of subtle and emotional acting, and knowing this production team, I expect there to be a fair dose of lightness and humor that is tempered with deeper feeling. I look forward to the pairing, since both actors are solid comedic performers as well as being good at tugging at the heartstrings.

Directing will be Hong Chang-pyo, who was the assistant director on movies Le Grand Chef and Portrait of a Beauty; the film plans to begin filming later this year.

Lee Seung Gi and Shim Eun Kyung match well for this movie. The story itself seems interesting. Then I guess Lee Seung Gi's role might not choose anyone among that 4 candidates but himself as the best husband lol.
Can't wait for Lee Seung Gi on this rom-com sageuk.

I find Lee Seung Gi and Moon Chae Won did a great job there, just the story was a bit... Waste of the great chemistry between Lee Seung Gi and Moon Chae Won. But the biggest minus point were the film editing, also the 3rd man's acting (Jung Joon Young?), his acting was just so bad. .

Can't see how this will work, their chemistry seems off...but then I feel that about most of Lee Seung Gi's pairings be it in dramas or whatever. Still, let's see which other stars are lined up to make this look passably inviting.

For me, I always found SeungGi has great chemistry with his female lead, even though with big age gap. I admit now I also can't imagine their chemistry. Since SEK didn't has that much romantic rela kind role (and I haven't finish Cantbabile Tomorrow), but I'll believe that SeungGi chemistry for now and will save the judge for letter.. ^^

I think I'm the only one excited for this. Among all SeungGi's projects those past two years, I got excited to Kill Me, Heal Me (he rejected it T_T) his album, the new variety show and this movie. I hope it'll meet my expectations <3

Im happy that I will get to see actor Seung Gi through this interesting sageuk rom com movie and also entertainer Lee Seung Gi in upcoming Variety show .He will reunite with Na PD and Kang Hodong <3

Selfish me cant help but hope Lee Seung Gi will pick a work that is more centered about his character. He shines in most of his work esp The King 2 hearts with his prince/King role and Gu Family Book which is the drama main plot is about Kangchi the gumiho. In Love Forecast, at first the title was known as Women of three man before they change it. Even from the title we can tell that the story circling about the female lead role. From the brief synopsis about this movie, I can feel that the movie will be focusing on the female lead. No? T_T

I think the previous movie, which this one is the spin off, was called "The Face Reader", which means the focus will still be on the face reader aka SeungGi's character. Besides, this one is described as a rom-com, and rom-coms are about a couple, I'm sure it'll be equal.

Even in LF which was focused on MCW's character before, was changed to add more lines since they casted LSG (which explains the shitty directing and rushed like script), they made him the narrator and added more to his part to make it the couple's movie.

I have a feeling this will be a good movie, a thing I didn't sense with LF and even YAAS.

And people judging chemistry while the two never worked together. They said the same about LSG/HJW chemistry, but they had a killer one. Have faith Airens ^^

LSG is still a newbie in movie industry while SEK has better resume with many big box office projects (i.e: Sunny, Miss Granny, and Masquerade). Thus, it s reasonable that the plot centers around SEK's character. However, it s better for LSG that way that he would not feel the burden of carrying this movie and be more relax to explore the character better.

I'm excited for a good writer actually.... that's what most of his recent projects have been lacking. And SEK is really talented, so I think it's great honestly. He could learn from her just like he did with HJW. And I think TK2H focused equally on HJW and that helped it a lot. LF might have started with focus on MCW, but they obviously kind of rewrote things.

I love Lee Seung-gi (who doesn't right?) buttttt I didn't care much for acting in his first sageuk. Yubi on the other hand won me over.
Pairing him with the talented sageuk princess Shim Eun-kyung is perfect. No need for him to carry his leading lady.

So out of the blue. Totally wasn't expecting this pairing or him to do this movie instead of a drama, but very welcome. I can't really imagine their chemistry, but she's a great actresses and he always has good chemistry with his leading ladies so I'm not too worried.

MCW was flawless obviously, but the script and everything about their movie was terrible and other than her it's been a while since he's had a leading lady who could really carry her own (and then some in this case). So I'm excited for that.

Other than Suzy, there hasn't been a single leading lady paired with LSG who couldn't carry her own. In fact, he has always been the "worse" actor when paired with the likes of Shin Minah, Ha Jiwon, Moon Chaewon, Han Hyojoo. Go Ara might be the only one who's the same level as him in terms of talent and she carried herself very well in YAAS. I thought it was LSG who did not match the quiet, broody type ~ he mostly just felt flat and a little unnatural, but that's an opinion not everyone needs to share. I'm just a little confused on your comment regarding his apparently weak leading ladies.

Go Ara was pretty mediocre and her character was terrible in YAAS. Going from SMA, HJH to Go Ara and Suzy was slightly disappointing. I'm not saying he's a fantastic actor, to the contrary... I don't think he works well with mediocre costars because he can't fully carry everything himself yet. He's still learning.

That being said, I'm not saying I want someone to carry him. I don't think that has happen, even with Ha Jiwon he rose the the occasion and got better to match her. Great costars bring out better acting.

Hopefully the characters are good as well, since with Go Ara that was the main issue I had with her. Soo Sun was a waste of space honestly. .

If this is going to be in the same vein as The Face Reader, I'm a tad disappointed they went for Lee Seung-gi. I guess that was more political than this intends to be though...But I still find him underwhelming as a romantic lead.

very like with shim eun kyung acting, her skill is on high level and she is only 94line.. and lee seung gi is one of the best young male lead for romcom genre in korean.. i think they can make a good couple, hope the script, editing and all will be good.. because look like knetizen wait for this second version.. fighting for all

Shim Eun Kang is amazing actress and I am excited for her but I am not feeling Lee Seung Gi much... I (used to) like him but he has not impressed me much lately...
Nevertheless, I hope the premise is all right.
Shim Eun Kang is someone to look forward to and hopefully she be selective with her roles since he is one heaven of an actress.

I enjoyed The Face Reader very much so I will watch this for sure.

Also, I want to see Shim Eun Kyung after Tomorrow Cantabile. I think one of the problems with her early in series portrayal of Naeil was that she still had "Miss Granny" in her. While I enjoyed SEK in Miss Granny, it was another thing to see those same quirky expressions in her Naeil. But she's an actress who is equally good in comedy and the serious. So, I expect her to do well in this role.

I enjoy LSG more in rom coms, maybe he will get me in this one for the emotional bit.

Finally will get to see seungi in a good production.was a bit disappointed with his debut in film.and though I am a big fan of seungi the movie just couldn't pull me into watching with that plot.
I really hope this is worth it.
Hoping for a another performance like king to hearts because honesty I think he has had some bad decisions.can't complain as all the projects were good on paper
